Well, I did it. I decided to write another texting fic.

Warning: This fic is a WIP, and unlike most WIP fics of mine, I have no outline. I am writing by the seat of my pants, so to speak. I say this because this fic is not comprehensively tagged from the start. However, I will be constantly updating the tags and will put any relevant content warnings in the beginning notes of each chapter as they start to come up.

Welcome to Owl Chat, the anonymous chat app that pairs you with strangers based on a scientifically proven personality assessment.

Lily said he needed to learn how to make friends before they headed to college in the fall. That’s the only reason Remus signs up for Owl Chat. Better to get used to talking to strangers over the internet than to do it in person. He doesn’t expect to make an actual friend, especially when the apps personality assessment was so arbitrary.

Then he meets Padfoot. He’s funny, charming, a little bit nerdy, and for some unexplainable reason, seems to want to be Remus’ friend. And the longer they talk, the more Remus begins to like him.

But he can’t just fall in love with a person he hasn’t even met.

“Oh, uh… I don’t know, honestly. Maybe that I trust people too easily? I’ve been told I can be a bit gullible, but I don’t see how that’s possible when my standards are so high? Like people judge me for having drunkenly made out with that Alicia girl, but like… I think they’re the ones who are wrong there. Who the fuck could dress so well and be a blood traitor? Though I don’t understand what it’s like to have a horrible family, isn’t it a saying that you don’t choose your family? I guess she’s not that mean, though, which makes her a lot less hot than let’s say… Genie, I guess. Which, uh. Maybe that’s why they say I’m gullible? I guess I just don’t see how like… I don’t know. I don’t get it, which is kind of frustrating. I’ve been keeping a closer eye on some people I’ve been asked to keep a closer eye on, though, even if I never thought there was anything wrong with them, and like… So far I haven’t noticed anything off. Maybe I’m the one who’s right actually, and they’re… The bad opposite of gullible. As for what I don’t like about myself… One of my teeth is kind of crooked. In a hot way, though.”

It didn't get what it wanted, and it's destroying him from the inside out. Memories from the years are jumbled in his mind and the voices of those lost along the way muddying the waters.

All he can manage, with what little is left of Remus Lupin, is the utterance:
