TIME TO BE INSANE ABOUT IT.

I thought the movie was good!! Not perfect, but it was good!

When it comes to humor and characterization, I still think the second one was the best at that. But S3 had a lot of themes and characters I like, and it also set up a good path for the other movies to follow, so I think it did a good job finishing some character's arcs and it works as a good setup for the future.

I'm really excited to see where they'll take things after this - AND how they'll bring Robotnik back since Jim Carrey is still up to do a fourth movie, but I have a feeling they'll tap into the multiverse for that (Which could then lead to them finding other types of emeralds like the Sol Emeralds and BLAZE AND SILVER) or some time-travel they teased in the leaked storyboards (Which could lead to angst and I LOVE IT).

Criticisms-wise, I do think they could have organized the time spent on some scenes a lot better and given us the DAMN SCENE WHERE STONE SAVES ROBOTNIK FROM THE ROBOT AND NURSES HIM BACK TO HEALTH. AAAA. I don't understand why they cut that out, it wouldn't even be that long of a scene!! Just a quick flashback like they already had planned in the storyboards!! And it would have added so much context behind Stone and Ivo's relationship that led to his realization in that last moment :'(( But that's about it, I liked the movie a lot <3

I also didn't think I'd cry but seeing Lee act with that much emotion got me and I was SOBBING Anon. Shadow and Sonic's talk on the moon? Cried. Maria's death? Cried. My old man yaoi continues being doomed, but it was such a good way to have their relationship progress that I'm okay with it!

The natural progression of that is to have Robotnik treating Stone with a lot more care now that he knows Stone genuinely cares about him, and I think I'd explode if we get more of them being soft with each other or if Robotnik calls Stone his family. AND HE NEEDS TO APOLOGIZE. It can be in his own way, maybe he builds something for Stone or anything else but my god Stone has gone THROUGH IT for him.

I genuinely believe they're trying to break them apart now to give Stone time to grow as a character BEYOND Robotnik - probably in a show like Wade and Knuckles', but with Stone and Shadow? - So if (when) they meet again, they'll be on equal grounds. Their dynamic would change even more then, and they could be a proper villain power couple <33

But I just hope they'll let Agent Stone shine now (Fowler PLEASE give us more Biker!Stone PLEASE that was SO badass) because he's suffered enough and Lee deserves everything that's good in the world, and if that includes going a little insane in the next movie then I'll be over here manifesting <3 He has the range too!! He played such an insane little guy in Get Fast. And Stone could be a different type of villain. Since Robotnik is the maniacal and extravagant type, Stone could be the quiet and menacing type! I don't know who else could be the villain if Robotnik is meant to stay dead, it's either Stone or they could probably bring a Robotnik from another universe into theirs and that would explain why there are so so many Metal Sonics there. Stone wouldn't have any reason to hold a grudge against Sonic. There's so much potential there!!

And I actually don't really have an opinion on Amy because I've always been a Blaze the Cat kid kjkjh but I think she's cool and her model looks pretty!! 'Small character with big hammer' will always be a peak concept, her personality could be such a good contrast to characters like Stone and Shadow like I've already seen on some awesome fanart in the Stobotnik tag, and I saw somewhere that the fourth movie could be a romantic comedy? I think it'd be cute to see the usual dynamic she and Sonic have, but I'm sure they already have a spin on that planned since everyone suddenly hates romance now.

BUT it'd be extra funny if the Rom-com plan is actually because of Stone and Robotnik meeting again with a post-divorce vibe. I'd spend all day looking at the angry reviews homophobes would leave

Mild dev story: Battlepass Tiers

This is from the latest Jimquisition.

It kind of reminded me of a thing.

This was in late 2000s when I was doing a university "project" course interning at a company. (The company seemed to exist at least at some level a couple of years ago, but now appears to have been bought by a bigger internet-of-things company. I haven't seen the "product" they made in a while, so whatever code I wrote back then is so deep in the vault that nobody is ever going to see it again. I take honour in knowing my code is deeply appreciated by the top men.)

Anyway. I was tasked to write a shop interface for a future "access tier" functionality. Mainly, at the time, it was about integrating the third party electronic payment library, and to add ability to initiate and accept/reject purchases through electronic banks and payment providers. Simple stuff. At this time the shop frontend was supposed to just be nonsense that wasn't actually visible to production users, so I could come up with nonsense access tier "products".

So I came up with some access tiers!

"Bronze!"

"Silver!"

"Gold!"

...Okay so far!

"Platinum!" Why not! ...

Then my ideas started running dry. "Titanium!" ... uh, why not...? "Neutronium!"...

I tried to stretch my creative writing skills so that the first tier levels would look sensible based on the boss's instructions.

I don't know what ungodly riches I promised to the buyers of the higher tiers. "Oh if you buy the Neutronium package you get all of the stuff from the previous tiers plus a private 24H lounge and spa". (You know. For a subscription to a boring web service.) Stuff along those lines.

It was a joke anyway. Nothing of the sort was supposed to make it to the production.

Anyway, my boss was like "good job, nicely done."

I expected literally no acknowledgement, and I got literally no acknowledgment. ...Fair is fair.

The product may have actually had some use for some years after the course was finished... maybe? I rightly can't tell. This product was basically known by a codename and I have no idea if it actually got to production stage. (It was also supposed to be offered to the university students enventually, and I literally heard nothing about it during the rest of my studies.)

So why am I talking about this after a random Jimquisition screenshot?

Thanks to this little internship, I can legitimately say I have professional experience about TIER NAMING.

(Point the first: I literally have no marketing experience except that. Point the second: I'm not going to put this in my LinkedIn, don't worry.)

So, a professional opinion:

If you name your tier "Ultimate", you fucking don't do "Ultimate+".

You can only go beyond "Ultimate" if you do "Ultimate Motherfucking Super Badass Double Diamond Motherfucker!"¹. Which doesn't fly well in a dry corporate setting.

Stick with a series of more and more implausible elements.

Even if you are stretching it.

Hello! It has been fun reading all the different theories and directions chapter 7 can take as well as your thoughts on it! I was also surprised that Lilia announced his departure so soon, and while so far I am personally inclined to believe him about his powers fading due to age, I do wonder if Lilia could be testing Malleus in some way or teaching him a life lesson. Death is a natural part of life, and with the long lifespan of the fae, Malleus is bound to deal with the loss of loved ones/people in general 😔, especially as the next ruler. Lilia could be testing how Malleus reacts to loss as it could be an issue when he takes the crown. That being said, I don't think that Lilia is trying to induce an overblot (but well, who knows haha), but rather highlight the fact that life is not permanent (even for fae) and this cannot be changed (probably), and therefore life and time spent together should be treasured.

Personally, I believe that part of why Malleus is in school is to forge connections but also possibly to learn how to say goodbye (when he graduates), and to treasure the time spent together with peers even if they are not permanent. This is just my interpretation, but Malleus appears to struggle with perceiving time and living in the present moment. As such, he occasionally misses out on opportunities to bond with others or connect with the world. This is likely because he is fae but Lilia does not appear to struggle as much regarding this, so there could be other reasons 🤔. He doesn't appear to value time as much as others do (e.g. dismissing 3 months of internship because it's too short) which is understandable, but I think is something he should value more especially because life is not permanent. So maybe the life lesson Lilia could be imparting to Malleus is that people will come and go and that should be accepted, but it shouldn't stop him from genuinely connecting with others because it will make life better, even if it is more painful.

Sorry for the long ask haha but anyways it's all just opinions/possibilities! I'm very excited to see how the story goes from here. Have a nice day!

I agree with a lot of the points you brought up, Anon! I feel like a lot (and I mean a lot) of the upset surrounding Lilia leaving is because people expect a found family or a close knit group of friends (like Diasomnia) to always be comfy and together. Unfortunately, this is not the case. Part of being a family or being friends is also weathering through the tough times together, even if it is painful in the moment.

Many often forget that sometimes Lilia’s way of teaching a lesson or letting a secret out can be very callous. He was, of course, insensitive to the worry he caused Silver and Sebek while pulling off the prank in Endless Halloween Night, and did not gracefully divulge the truth of Silver’s human heritage to him when initially asked about it (Lilia just went, “Oh, you didn’t notice our ears were different until now?”). Lilia is also notably stern and sharp-tongued when scolding others (ie Leona in episode 2). And remember how hardcore his training was for young Silver and Sebek? Lilia can be so much harsher than he initially appears to be. It is for this reason that it’s possible that his departure is to encourage those remaining in Diasomnia to learn to stand on their own. All three of them are representative of the future of the Briar Valley and of Lilia’s hopes for peace between the races—the future king, a human able to bridge the difference between fairies and non-fairies, and a mixed child of a fairy and a human. But they can’t fully realize their own potentials if they keep leaning on Lilia for support. It’s could be like a case of “touch love”/“if you love them, let them leave the nest” (except it’s Lilia leaving in this case to force their hands).

I think Malleus is specifically in a position where it will be difficult for Lilia to get through to him. His entire existence has been a lonely and isolating one, and it’s hard to get the socially awkward Malleus to open up to others or to have peers approach him due to his overwhelming aura and power. His distorted sense of time also doesn’t help with this, as it leads Malleus to drastically over or underestimating the time he has (ie he mistakes Vil’s magical aging as the result of more time passing than he had perceived, he often misses meetings because he mixed up the date/time, he believes the internship periods are “too short” to learn anything substantial, etc). He cannot enjoy the present moment because (to him) it slips away so fast, and he has an several centuries ahead of him. Now is nothing. Malleus does not value time because he has so much of it left; this is why Lilia’s words strike him at the end of episode 6: others may have life spans far shorter than theirs, but they can still come together to forge strong bonds in the short time that they have. “We live among such creatures, Malleus.” There is value in the quality of time spent together, not just the length of it—that is what Lilia is trying to express to Malleus, who will eventually outlive his classmates.

Lilia has had the worldly experiences and the age to fuel his understanding of the flow of time and how to live peacefully with other creatures, but Malleus has not—and those things cannot easily be taught, and certainly not in the time span of a few years of schooling. This is likely why Lilia goes out of his way to push Malleus to act outside of his comfort zone and to live his school life to its fullest, to go out and talk to people, to journey to new places and to steep himself in other cultures. He wants Malleus to have those enriching experiences because experience is the best teacher.

It is pointed out by the students of NRC that they don’t understand why someone as powerful and as important as Malleus is wasting his time with school. This is also something that Leona mentions in regards to himself; what could they possibly hope to learn from school? They can afford the best private tutors and resources without so much as glancing in the direction of the school grounds. But that’s just it: it’s the social experience of being surrounded by peers and interacting with them, having to work together with them, hearing from all walks of life. These cannot be gained in isolated self study. It’s also true that the negative experiences associated with those things cannot be had outside of school. The good and the bad are a part of life, and Malleus needs to become accustomed to it if he is to become a well-rounded and wise adult like Lilia.

The connections he makes and the good-byes that come with them… they’re important parts of growing up. Even if it hurts now, it’s meant to make you stronger in the long run.

(I’m not saying this is Lilia’s canonical reason for leaving so soon, but that it aligns with Lilia’s philosophy that we know of so far. It isn’t completely out of character for Lilia to announce his departure and to entrust his boys with the future while he is away.)

I know you might be shrugging thinking, but sometimes I get really negative or scared too. I won't say that's not a thing humans experience. Fear of not having your project liked. These kinds of things.

Quick feet, small steps resonates through the hallway. Hermione is not late, of course not. She is not late but it's her nature to walk fast, she should reach the class before others to make preparation.

Though she already go through a 9 inches book last night in order to understand about some transparent globe which- they said, gives prophecy about someone. It is understandable, but still, it did not amaze her why they need to predict the future. Because of prophecy, countless of bad things happens.

Hermione sighs as she thought it back. Maybe Professor Trelawney is the one she hate. Not the subject. She looks pretty much insane--

A hand extends, gripping Hermione's left arm and pulls her to the dark corner of the hallway. She yelps, an arm wraps around her and her face is pressed to a sturdy chest to keep her from yelling.

The combination of spearmint and green apple greets her, immediately she relaxes in his arm.

"What are you doing!?" She hisses with a slight smile on her face.

Draco sticks out his head to watch for passerbys before returning his vision to the curly haired girl in front of him. He grins, still his worried expression is there.

"Oh come on. You are a Slytherin and you are still afraid of getting caught?" Hermione teases. It is well known that Draco is not someone with bravery. He mocks but never acts.

"Not everyone have the heart of a Gryffindor." He slids his arms around her, pulling her closer. "I'm going to be a dead Hippogriff if someone sees me with a possible enemy.

"You mean, Hermione Granger." She rolls her eyes.

"Not her. She's beautiful and she's Draco's girlfriend. Not gonna lie but she is hot." He receives a hit to his chest, which he plays it off acting it hurts.

"Don't be a baby." Hermione slids her hand in her robe, pulling out her wand.

"Sweetheart. I'm already charmed by you. What else do you want to cast me?"

"Shut up Malfoy." Red tints spreads across her cheeks. She mutters an incantation, a special barier appears in front of her, framing the whole corner.

"Protection charm. They keeps you invincible."

Draco stares in awe, "There's really a benefit for having a genius girlfriend." He earns another thud on his chest.

"Okay. You have like six more minutes. What do you want?" Hermione is Hermione, no matter how she loves the boy in front of him, classes are important.

This time, Draco gathers her properly in his arm, inhaling her scent deeply. "God I miss you. It's been three months and you don't even spare a glance at me on the train."

Hermione mutters from his chest, muffled, "Do you expect me to get into Slytherin coach and jump on you?"

He peels her away and stares dead in her eyes. "Yes."

Hermione burst into laughter, yet Draco seems unfazed. He wants her to find him, though he did think it is ridiculous. The whole Hogwarts would rather believe Professor Flitwick has grown taller than Hermione Granger is Draco Malfoy's girlfriend.

Maybe they both will end up in Daily Prophet for Merlin sake.

"Draco. This silver hair has made your brain go insane. What about a colour change, hmm?" Hermione is really good at mindtrick. This, Draco finds no incantation can counter her charm. She is dangerously compelling, if you ask him.

"To what?" He holds his breath. She looks 10 times prettier up close, not any Dementor as good as her. She takes his breath away without even trying.

"Black?"

"Anything but black."

"Hmm. Brown?"

"Change it for me."

Hermione steps backward, flicking her wrist which holds her wand, "Brunneis capillus." Draco's hair changes to hazelnut brown.

"Are you sure you want to go to class with brown hair?" Hermione need to ask, she knows how silver hair is an important Malfoy family trait.

"How hot I am?"

She rolls her eyes but answers it anyways, "Smoking hot."

Draco snaps his fingers, running it through his now hazelnut hair. "That's it. Your opinion is all that matters. Let's go to the class."

He reaches for her hand. Just as he steps out of the barrier that Hermione made to guard them, he collides with a brown haired boy- which unfortunately, Harry.

Meanwhile, Harry jumps out of shock seeing Draco comes out of nowhere. As he opens his mouth to speak, Hermione comes out, his jaw drops.

"Am I daydreaming?" Draco reaches to slap him to which he replies, "Aw Malfoy. I know you don't like me. But it doesn't need to be that hard!"

Hermione is silent, half worried about Harry and half worried that she has another one minute before class starts.

He pushes his jar, locating the poor part back. "I honestly offended by this revelation, but I think we need to talk about your hair."

"No time. Class first." In a blink of eye, Hermione walks away from them hurriedly, not even caring if they follow her or not.

Harry stares unbelievably while Draco does the same. "Have you ever-- ever regret having such girlfriend?"

"She'd kill me if she heard this- but yeah." Both of them start walking toward the Astronomy tower where they can see Hermione literally floating in the air due to how fast she is trying to climb the tower, her hair and robe flies behind her.

"Next time if you succeed making her late to class, I'll treat you a butterbeer." Harry offers, eyes not moving from Hermione's figure.

"Maybe in the next life." He grunts. "But I'll take that."
