masterlist // one-shot masterlist // part 1
———————————————–
It was Friday morning, meaning it was your turn for the normal errands. This time, it actually meant getting more safety enclosures and items for the café and for your own apartment. You had been unsurprisingly shaken and uncomfortable being alone since the incident at the restaurant a couple weeks back.
This meant you had spent the past couple weeks either staying in the studio apartment above the café, or with the girls in their home. You hadn’t been back to your own apartment besides the first night when you went with Jeongyeon and Mina to get some clothes and other necessities. The girls were fine with this, and even encouraged it, Tzuyu saying it would be like having a big sleepover.
But unfortunately for you, today would be one where you venture out alone. Chaeyoung and Momo were supposed to be going with you but Chae got called in to retake an exam she missed in the midst of the restaurant incident and Momo had a family emergency.
This meant you were walking out of the house alone accompanied by the small canister of pepper spray Nayeon had bought for you that went on your little keychain.
“Okay, Y/n, you can do this.” You mutter to yourself, trying to hype yourself up as you walk down the front steps and onto the sidewalk.
You didn’t have a car, nor did you see yourself needing one. You and the girls both lived in neighborhoods that were close to the café and the girls’ school along with a bunch of shops and other necessities. It was nice for days like this, where you needed the fresh air, but also awful because you didn’t want to be alone right now.
You had your small backpack on your back along with your keys and phone in your jacket pockets, your beanie keeping your head warm on the cold morning. The hardware shop was only a couple blocks away, and you hoped that you were walking fast enough to make it before it got super busy.
Ever since the restaurant, a lot of people and businesses were taking the precautions to up their own security and were taking the steps you were now. You planned to get a good alarm system for the café, one that included a camera aimed at the entrances and the exits, including the cafes back exit you used for shipments.
You were also going to buy a couple of deadbolts for the café and for your own home. You weren’t allowed to get any system that had a camera at your apartment, the manager claiming it infringed upon the privacy of the other residents.
Nayeon and Jeongyeon got really mad at that one.
By the time you made it to the hardware store, you were already shaking. Every time you had gone somewhere, even with the girls, you always felt eyes on you. This time was no different even if you could never figure out where the feeling was coming from.
“Good morning! Welcome into Ace Hardware. Is there anything we can help you with today?” The front clerk asked as soon as the doors opened to the store, you walk inside and wiping off your boots.
You shake your head as you grabbed one of the little baskets by the door, thanking them before making your way to where you knew the security hardware was located. Dahyun had gone with you the other day to look at all of the options, her phone on speaker with Nayeon and Jihyo as you perused.
You noticed it was pretty quiet as you looked for the items on your list. It was kind of nice as you didn’t have any distractions to deter you from finding everything on your list. It took you some time, but once you had everything in your little basket, you began to make your way to the front.
You didn’t know where your mind went, but you looked down every aisle you passed as you moved to the front of the store, every aisle empty as you walked. You narrowed your eyebrows, the little voice in the back of your head telling you to run, that something was seriously wrong… and boy, do you wish you listened to it.
Instead of dropping your things and leaving, you stepped up to the counter, where the man from before stood, leaning against the counter and watching your every move.
‘Uhm, hello. I just need these.” You spoke up, voice proud your voice didn’t waver as you placed your basket up onto the counter. The man nodded, eyes on you as he scanned your items.
“I don’t think you’ll need these.” He was blunt, shrugging his shoulders as he pressed enter on his keyboard to continue the transaction.
“Excuse me?” You weren’t sure you heard him correctly.
“I said you won’t need these.” Your eyebrow quirked at his words, at his own nonchalance.
“Well, I’m not sure who you are to tell me if I need these or not.” You watched his lips grow into a grin, making you step back into a body you didn’t know had shown up.
You jump as you back into the man, turning to say you were sorry when you look up. It was one of the men from the restaurant, the one who killed the owner and the employee in front of you. Eyes widening, you try to move away only for his arms to snake around your waist and turn you around so your back was pressed against his front.
“Hello, baby. Did you miss me?” You could feel his warm breath on the back of your neck as he moved your hair away from your back, his nose pressing against your pulse point as you try not to cry. The cashier leans over the counter and wipes away a tear, his thumb pressing into your cheek as you try to move away.
“I meant; you won’t need these measly measures of protection when you have us.” His words brush against your cheek as he moves in, not caring that you flinch as his lips press against the skin he pressed his thumb into.
As he moves back across the counter, he shoves your items onto the floor and slides across the counter, standing in front of you.
“Alright, where are the other two?” He brings his hand up to caress your jaw as he speaks, the man holding you still pressing his nose against your pulse point as he rubs down your sides.
“Probably in the back…” His lips brush against your neck as he speaks, his words tapering off with some insinuation that you don’t understand. The man in front of you only nods, gesturing to something behind you as he moves off to the side and through one of the aisles.
You try to take this as an opportunity to leave, your hands going to the ones on your side and yanking them off you, only to make it three feet away and being yanked back into their embrace.
“Aww, little one, that hurts my feelings.” He pulled you back over to the counter, moving one hand up your abdomen and to your neck, like the other man, but instead he brought his hand to cover the expanse of your neck, tilting your head back to rest on his shoulder.
“That’s not very nice of you.” Footsteps make their way to where you and the man from the restaurant were; a slight chuckle leaving the new person.
“Jimin-ah, not here.” The man, Jimin, laughs as he kisses your temple.
His grip loosens on your neck, letting your head fall forward a little to see the man before, his blonde hair now a little messed up as he holds a couple things in his hand.
“I see V had his fun.” Jimin smirks at his hyung, noticing his swollen lips and messed up hair. The man only smirks as he moves to stand in front of you again.
“Sorry about this, kitten. Can’t have you trying to run.” Your eyes widen at his words as he holds up some rope and a sack. You shake your head, pleading with them. They both just look down at you with pity as Jimin ties your hands up and the man, Yoongi, places the sack over your head.
“Take her to the car.” The man’s words were sharp, leaving no room for arguments as Jimin pushes you to walk, hands on your hips as he guides you outside. You stumble as you make it out the doors, his grip tightening on you.
“We can’t have you hurting yourself, can we.” His words shake you even more, your body tense and your hands clenched into fists as you dig your fingernails into your palm.
You knew you weren’t getting out of this.
The feeling in your body told you that you were done for.
“Here we go…” Jimin muttered as he walked you up to the van, opening the sliding door and picking you up, grinning at the gasp that leaves your lips as he jumps into the van, closing the door behind him and pulling you onto his lap, securing the seatbelt over the both of you.
You were silent, not wanting to make a sound and make anyone angry. You had no clue who these people were, but you knew they were capable of anything if you go by what happened at the restaurant. You had no clue if they would hurt you, but you wouldn’t put it past them.
So, you remained silent and still.
The feeling of his hand rubbing up and down your jean covered thigh made you want to vomit, even more so as your body started to relax against him against your own volition. You held back a sob as the doors opened, voices joining the silence as the vehicle started.
“How is she Jiminie?” A familiar voice asked the man under you.
“Tense. I think our baby is scared.” Jimin’s voice was teasing, his hand squeezing your thigh a little bit before going back to rubbing circles.
“Aww, baby. There is no need to be scared. We’ll keep you safe.” The familiar voice coos at you, a presence moving next to you and another hand resting on your other thigh.
The rest of the car ride consisting of twists and turns that last longer than ten minutes, you tried counting but lost track after Jimin started pressing kisses to your shoulder; you cried. You managed to hold your sobs in, managed to keep silent as you listened to the men talking and joking around.
You could only see a bit of light through the sack over your head, and you knew for sure your wrists were bruised from the rope as you held them to your chest. Your body was starting to ache from how tense you were, your shoulders almost reaching your ears.
The feeling of the vehicle slowing down and stopping caught your attention, only for everything to move quickly once the doors opened. You were being picked up again, a silent gasp leaving your lips as the person holding you moves quickly.
You were becoming numb to everything, your mind trying to protect you from what it thinks could happen. Different scenarios filling your head as you tried to slow your racing heart. It doesn’t work as you feel the man sitting you down on something soft, someone moving to sit behind you and trap you between their legs, your back being pressed to their chest.
Soon enough the sack was being removed from over your head, your hair moving into your face as you struggle to take a deep breath in, suddenly feeling as though you were suffocating.
The person behind you starts to coo, their hands moving, one to wrap around your body and rest on your stomach and the other to brush your hair away from your face. When your vision clears, you see six men, all in various positions, resting in front of you. Your eyes, however, immediately move to the one who stands in front of you, only a couple of feet from where you sit.
You grow uncomfortable under their stares, well, even more uncomfortable than you already were. You begin to squirm in your seat, forgetting that you were trapped in someone’s embrace as their groan reaches your ears, causing you to freeze.
A deep chuckle leaves Namjoon’s lips as he watches you freeze against Jimin. His smile growing as he watches you eye him, as if trying to see if he would do anything to you. Oh, he thinks, the things he would love to do to you.
“Why am I here? What do you want with me?” Namjoon’s eyebrow raises as he hears you ask, your voice unwavering as you try to show no fear. You were impossibly cute, entirely innocent and he knew you were perfect for them.
“Baby girl. You’re too cute.” Jin can’t help but to coo, his words making your shoulders tense up again. You couldn’t understand why these men wanted you, nor why they kept calling you pet names. You saw the men nod their heads, saying their own agreements, ignoring you and your words.
“Answer me!” You shout, trying to remain confident despite the way you were trapped against the man behind you.
“Oohh, looks like our baby has a bite.” One of the men jokes out, making the men all laugh again as your cheeks burn red. Looking away from the men, not wanting to give them any satisfaction of your own annoyance.
To your further annoyance, the one holding you, who you assume to be Jimin, puts his hand on your neck again and turns your head back to face the room again. His thumb rubbing against the side of your jaw in mock comfort.
“You hold something important to us.” The main in the middle, right in front of you, finally speaks up, his voice silencing the others. The room turns from a goofy atmosphere to a silent, serious one, everyone looking at you.
“I—what?” That was absurd, confusion ringing through your ears as you subconsciously relax against Jimin.
Suddenly, the ropes tying your wrists together were being untied. Hands replacing them and holding your hands to your chest, Jimin’s thumbs rubbing circles into the skin of your now really bruised wrist.
“You have something important to us.” The man repeats himself.
“Look, I don’t have any money. I don’t have anything of value. Please.” You couldn’t think. What did you have of importance to them? You didn’t have any money or valuables; the café was doing well but not enough to really by robbed.
“That’s not what he means, baby.” One of the men from the restaurant speaks up, the same one who yelled at the owner not to touch you. His voice was softer this time, the lip piercing glinting in the small bit of sunlight peaking through the windows.
“C’mon little one, why don’t you show him your wrist, hmm?” Jimin coos from behind you, ending his words with a kiss to your now exposed shoulder, your shirt and jacket falling off your shoulder from being manhandled.
You held your wrists tighter to your chest, wincing as he moves his lips up your neck and to your ear, dragging the lobe between his lips and pulling on it.
“There is nothing on my wrist.” You mumble out, hoping they would drop whatever game they were trying to play with you. This wasn’t funny anymore. Nothing made sense. You figured you managed to walk into another burglary at the hardware store, but they didn’t carry in any bags, no evidence of any weight being dropped while you were in the car.
Why would they take you, but leave the money from the store behind?
“Oh. Joonie-ah, did you hear that? Our little mate thinks we’re nothing.” Another man coos, the blonde cashier from the store who obviously wasn’t a cashier. He grins at you, watching as your eyes widen and dart to their names on your wrist.
Kim SJ
Min YG
Jung HS
Kim NJ
Park JM
Kim TH
Jeon JK
The seven names that have been driving you crazy since they appeared on your wrist when you turned thirteen. Despite his teasing tone, your entire body froze, dread and confusion filling your body as his words sink in.
“Don’t believe us, kitten?” At his next words, everyone turns their wrists to you, showing you their own soulmarks. Jimin’s own wrist is turned upwards, your name at the bottom of his own mark. Your hand moves slowly, your pointer finger moving to trace the outline of your name.
“What…?” Your words were a whisper as everything seemed to hit you at once. Why they were so intent on taking care of you at the restaurant, the smiles as they saw your blood covered soul mark.
You barely felt as Jimin moved you around, adjusting you in his lap as his lips placed themselves on the nape of your neck.
“It was fate. We went in for a job, planning on killing everyone inside when that employee was killed in front of you, his hands on yours. We knew before we walked in, seeing your mark from outside as we moved past the window. Plans changed.” Jimin narrated, his voice soft as he remembered seeing your mark through the window as they walked past and into the building.
“We wanted to take you then and there, seeing how unprotected you were, but we knew we couldn’t leave any witnesses. We knew you cared about your friends, seeing how you tried to protect them. We needed a plan.” Taehyung spoke this time, eyes narrowed at your shaky form as you just stared at Jimin’s wrist.
“We’ve been watching you the entire time, making sure our baby was safe. We followed you and you friend, Dahyun, to the hardware store and when you didn’t walk out with anything, we knew you would go back. And thus began our plan to bring you home.” Jungkook’s tone was angry, still upset that you felt you needed useless items to protect you when you had them.
You looked up when they were done talking, eyes soft and unmoving as you felt yourself becoming light. The pieces were connecting. The eyes you felt on your every move had never felt uncomfortable or fearful, just weird. It made sense why you felt so safe within the past week, and not because you were with your friends. Why you felt safe enough to leave the house so much, despite never really feeling the need to before.
You were inadvertently being protected and watched by your soulmates.
You were being watched and protected by men who were criminals by career, maybe even men for hire judging by the way they carried themselves.
And you had never felt safer in your life than when you were in the arms of the man who killed the restaurant staff and caused you and your friends such trauma and turmoil.
“Oh…” Was the only thing to leave your lips, words not being supported within your brain right now as you trace your name on Jimin’s wrist, not noticing the way his eyes roll back into his skull at the feeling of your fingers on him.
-*-*-
“Now, darling, why don’t we show you to our room?” Namjoon speaks up after everyone finally introduced themselves.
You had become completely relaxed in their presence now, not flinching or hiding away when one of them came up to you or touched you. In fact, it seemed like you were leaning into their touch, seeking it out as you walked next to Yoongi as they lead you to their shared room.
Well, now your shared room.
It was customary for mates to start sharing a bed once they found each other. It helps to keep the bond active, to keep everyone from going through withdrawals from distance. Sickness and aches were not uncommon for mates who have some distance between them, especially in the beginning of the bond connecting.
Namjoon led you all down a long hallway, only three doors residing along the walls. The last one on the right held the symbol for the group within the wood of the door. A slight push against the wood had it opening to reveal a large room.
A custom-made bed, big enough to fit ten, was placed against the far right wall, a curtain canopy attached to the side frame and headboard. On either side of the bed was a nightstand and at the foot of the bed held a two-seater couch with cushions you felt you could fall into.
Opposite the bed was a large dresser and a door that you think leads to the closet. To the left of the bed was another door, opened already to give you a peak of the bathroom. The room was entirely spacious and had you never wanting to leave.
“Do you like it, baby?” Jin’s arms wrapped around you, pulling you into his chest as he rested his chin on your shoulder. You nodded your head, too in awe for you to come up with a coherent answer.
His breath on your neck had you taking a breath in, trying to regulate yourself. The feeling of his fingers gripping onto your waist had tingles shooting down your spine. You could suddenly feel every part of your eldest mate pressed against you, the warmth of him sending your own warmth straight to your core.
You clenched your thighs together hoping no one noticed your growing arousal and desire as Jin walked you forward and deeper into the room instead of standing in the open doorway.
But they noticed.
Yoongi and Jungkook walked over to the bed, leaning against the long metal framing holding up the canopy.
“Why don’t you come feel how comfy the bed is. I know I always hate leaving the bed in the mornings.” Yoongi gestured for you to come forward, Jin reluctantly letting go of you.
“More like you never want to leave the bed.” He muttered to himself, getting a pinch on his ass from Namjoon who was standing behind him.
“Okay.” You mutter as you make your way to the large bed, seeing just how comfy it looked up closely. You can even see how soft the blankets look, the fabric practically calling your name as you bring your hand out to press on the mattress, testing it out before turning around to sit on it.
Tentatively, you watch their reactions as you move to lay back on the bed, not wanting to make anyone feel awkward as you lay in their bed. While you are their mate, you can’t help but to overthink. Do they even want you in their bed? They did say this was your room as well now, but did they mean it?
“You are very tempting, darling.” Jin’s eyes roamed up and down your figure, loving the way your thighs practically flattened against his blankets. You noticed the glint in his eyes darken as they caught sight of your lower half. He looked at you with lidded eyes, catching your surprise. You just shrug his words off, not really believing them.
Taehyung watched as you looked away from Jin, sitting back up on the edge of the bed. In the time he has been watching you, he could tell you were self-conscious about yourself, not believing any of the compliments any of your friends or customers had given you.
He quirked his eyebrow at Jimin, who had also observed this little thing of yours. They had already talked about this with each other, which is why Jimin had been so hands on with you. He couldn’t help it, Jimin’s love language was physical touch. He literally could not go minutes without touching one of his mates.
They would make sure their sweet little mate knew how loved she was…even if someone had to die to make it known.

Not How It's Supposed To Be
Goo Gunil Summary: Gunil was the enemy, so were you falling for him. (non-idol au) WC:925 Warning:none
part 2 part 3 epilogue!
Tumblr media
photo not mine credits to owner.
Go undercover and get the evidence needed to take Gunil and his corrupted organization down. That was the plan, it was simple. However now that the plan is in action it doesn’t feel that simple. You knew Gunil was a bad guy. You knew about all the illegal business he was doing under the guise of his product distribution company. You knew that Gunil was distributing psychotropic drugs. Then how did you end up here? Why were you lying for Gunil instead of to him?
“You know the kind of people I hate most y/n?” Gunil asked you one day while you were having lunch together in his office.
“What kind?” you questioned.
“Liars,” he answered. Your heart dropped. Did he find out about you being undercover? Was he about to do something to you? Were you going to be able to walk out of this room?
“Who would like a liar?” You chuckled nervously.
“My mom was a liar and so was the person I considered my best friend.” He went on to say.
“I’m sorry,” you say.
“You know it really does damage when the people closest to you lie to you.” He stabbed his fork harshly into the piece of meat in front of him, making you flinch.
“I can only imagine.” Gunil stands up and comes over the couch opposite of him you were sitting on.
“That’s right. You’ve never been hurt by someone close to you have you?” He very gently strokes your cheek with the back of his hand.
“Fortunately not,” you responded. Gunil smiled.
“And you wouldn’t hurt someone close to you either right?” he asked.
You shook your head. “I don’t want to hurt those close to me.”
“Can I be close to you?” He leaned closer to you.
So maybe that’s how you found yourself in this situation. Because the more time you spend with Gunil. The more you learned his story. The more you felt for him. It doesn’t make what he does right, but you get why he does it. With the way life treated him, it only makes sense he turned into the villain that he is.
“I don’t know. I’ve only been working here a month. Why would he tell all his dirty secrets to a new hire?” You told the people who you were supposed to be working with to take Gunil down. “There is a shipment going out soon, but I don’t know all the details,” you lied. A part of your job was literally managing shipping schedules. “I’ll look into it ok. I gotta go now.” You hung up the phone and let out a sigh. What were you doing? This wasn’t how things were supposed to be. Yet the thought of something happening to Gunil tugged on your heartstrings.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
“Y/n?” Gunil’s secretary called you.
“Yes?” you asked.
“Mr. Goo requests you in his office,” he tells you.
“Ok I’ll head there in a sec.” You saved the work you were working on before heading over to Gunil’s office.
“If you don’t find who broke into the warehouse I’ll get rid of you for being useless, do you understand!” You hear Gunil shout from the other side of the door. His icy tone sends a shiver down your spine. You knocked twice on the door.
“It’s me,” you say gently.
“Come in y/n.” His voice is much softer now. You took a small breath before opening the door.
“You wanted to see me,” you said. Gunil approaches you.
“Yeah I did.” Next thing you know he’s melting into you. Wrapping his arms around your frame in a hug. You freeze in your spot.
“...Is everything ok?” you asked. Very slowly you lift your hands and rest them against his back.
“Someone broke into the warehouse,” he tells you. You know exactly who it was. You feel something knot in your stomach.
“Was anything stolen?” Gunil pulls away from you and straightens his tie, fixing his composure.
“Fortunately not, but it was still a close call.”
“Guni,” you say.
“Yeah,” I know who it was. Those words sit right on the tip of your tongue.
“Did you check the security cameras to see who it was?” You say instead.
“They were wearing a cap and mask, so we couldn’t see. It was a man though,” he told you. You nodded. “Come sit.” Gunil motioned for you to sit down. Slowly you walked over to the couch and took a seat. Gunil then takes a seat beside you. “Did me asking to be close to you make you uncomfortable?” he questioned.
“Huh? Oh, no it didn’t. Why are you asking?” you replied.
“You just seem a bit distant with me since then,” he tells you. Cause that’s when you started feeling conflicted. You didn’t want to lie to Gunil anymore, but if stopped you’d be betraying your partners.
“It’s not that. It’s just…remember when I said I don’t want to hurt those close to me?” you brought up.
“Of course,” he said.
“Well, I found myself in a situation where I have to make a decision and no matter what choice I make somebody's gonna get hurt,” you informed.
“Which decision would make you the happiest?” he asked you.
“How can I be happy when I’m hurting someone?”
“Then can you tell me what the situation is? Maybe I can handle it,” he suggested. Your heart sinks.
“That’s the thing…there’s something you don’t know about me,” you say.
“Which is?” He looked at you expectantly.
“I’m a liar.”
The One Behind the Shadows
Tumblr media Tumblr media
pairing: suna rintarou x fem!reader
tags: fluff, broken eng, the reader is described as loving bread, self-indulgence.
Tumblr media
In the past few weeks you've been receiving shipments of snacks and sometimes medicine. It's not uncommon for Suna to notice someone hanging a plastic bag over your fence. If you want to be honest, you're very curious about people who always deliver snacks. So after sending your last speech bubble to Suna, you immediately picked up your cardigan behind the door and went downstairs to the front door. You're hoping the person who's been sending you a snack and some sore throat medicine hasn't left your house.
But when you open the door in front of you, all you see is Suna covered in his black hoodie and a hand carrying a bag of snacks. Confused, that's how you feel right now. Suna smiled slightly with one hand on his nape. "Hi," greets Suna to you who is still confused.
"Huh... Where is that person? What is that?" you asked with your index finger pointing at a plastic bag full of snacks in Suna's hand.
Suna raised one hand, moving his index finger to your forehead, giving a slight push to his index finger. "Take a guess."
You try to untangle all the tangled threads in your head, connecting each incident one by one. You looked at Suna and the white plastic bag in his hand alternately, until finally you were able to untangle and find the end  of the tangled threads in your head. "Could it be that you've always been the one giving me all that?" Suna nodded in response to your question.
"Why? Why did you do all that?" you asked again with your head slightly tilted, making you look adorable in Suna's eyes.
"Let me come in or at least sit down first, can't meet you at the door like this, can i?" After that, you invite Suna to enter your house. Suna sat in the living room, while you went to the kitchen to get drinks for the two of you, and followed Suna into the living room.
"Okay, now, explain. Why did you bother giving everything in secret, when you could just give it to me directly," you said firmly.
"I'm doing all this because... I don't know, I just want to do this. Lately I always feel unprepared every time I want to meet you, maybe you could say I'm nervous. I'm also afraid of you rejecting all the things I give, that's why I did all this," explained Suna.
The lavender scent from the reed diffuser on the living room table made Suna remember the days when he secretly hung plastic bags filled with food, snacks, drinks, and even medicine to relieve your sore throats at the gate of your house.
Day 1, January 2 2022
Suna, who had just returned from the studio after meeting with his friends, saw a bakery, he decided to stop by that shop. There, Suna bought a portion of bread because suddenly he remembered you, you really like bread, he even remembered your favorite flavor, namely chocolate cheese.
Wrapped in his black hoodie, Suna secretly hung a plastic bag filled with bread at the gate of your house, and immediately rushed home. Then he sent you a message saying, 'I saw someone dropping food at the gate of your house earlier'. The message was sent solely so that you would check outside to pick up the plastic bag he was hanging.
Day 2, 08 January 2022
From the balcony of his room, Suna saw you who had been pacing around in your own room. Suna, who was curious, decided to ask you. After getting the answer, he took the initiative to go to the minimarket, buy 3 boxes of milk to give you as a substitute for coffee, this is because you are allergic to coffee.
Suna also didn't forget to insert a sticky note on the 3 milk boxes. 'Don't drink coffee, just drink this.' That's more or less the message written on the sticky note.
Again and again, Suna quickly and secretly hung a plastic bag containing 3 cartons of milk on the fence of your house, this time he pressed your doorbell so that the owner of the house came out to get the shopping bags.
Day 3, 12 January 2022
You are a cheerful person and also talk a lot, but today you are quieter than usual, which makes dozens— even thousands of question marks pop up in Suna's head. He wonders why you're not as cheerful as usual. Taking his cellphone which was on the table, Suna decided to send you a chat bubble which said, 'Why are you staying quiet all day? Usually, you're talkative'.
Not long after, an incoming message appeared in the notification, the message was from you. The message said, 'I can't, I can't talk. My throat hurts'. After reading the message, Suna immediately ordered uber to ask for sore throat relief candy to be bought and sent to your address. Don't forget, he also told the uber he ordered to insert a sticky note that said 'Get well soon' with a heart symbol at the end of the sentence.
Not long after, the uber ordered by Suna reported that the package had been received by a young man with slightly pink hair. Suna knew for sure that it was your little brother who had received the package from him.
"Rinnnn," you called, bringing Suna back to his consciousness.
"Why?"
"You didn't hear what I said, did you? I asked you earlier, why are you nervous? Even though before you were normal," you repeated because Suna apparently didn't hear your question.
"Isn't it obvious? I'm nervous because I like you." A second later, your face immediately turned red like a crab that had just been boiled. You were silent in a thousand words, didn't know how to respond to Suna's words, what you knew now was that your heart was beating quite fast due to the sentence said by Suna. You immediately turned your attention to something else when you felt your face starting to heat up, then you used both hands to cover your increasingly red face. "Seriously, don't joke like this!" you shouted at Suna.
"I'm serious, not joking. I really liked you from the moment we met. You're the reason I always come to your flower shop."
"Okay, I understand. Don't talk yet, shut up. My heart can't stand it anymore, it feels like it's going to sink to my knees!" You panicked because your heart was beating faster when Suna continued his sentence.
Suna obeyed your words, although it wasn't long before he spoke again. "I'm not forcing you to answer now, but... I want us to go to the next level together, I want us to make our own journey."
You, who had started to calm down a little, turned your body to face Suna, your hand grabbed Suna's big hand. Your thumb gently stroked the back of Suna's hand. "You didn't ask me to answer now, but I want to answer now. Let's make our own journey, Rin, I cherish you too," you replied to Suna. Without warning, Suna immediately pulled you into his warm embrace.
Tumblr media
That night, the sound made by Suna's heartbeat became a beautiful melody for you.
Stardew Mod Part 2: Jones House Hold- Canada (Matthew Jones)
Summary of Town & Buildings you should read this first if you haven't so you're not confused.
(Note: all characters have had their personalities slightly altered to fit into the Stardew universe. I tried to keep them as true to their cannon selves as possible and giving them pizazz so they fit in with the rest of the world.)
Matthew breakdown: Matthew loves Grind ball & Nature. His roommate and brother is Alfred (America). He is friends with the bear who appears by the sewers and will mention feeding him in conversation and allude that you should to. He is shy and does not really want to talk to the player until you gain 2 hearts. Then his dialog will be more that a simple “…”. Matthew was raised by a rich family on a very productive ranch. He may say some tone deaf things every now and again but don’t fault him for it. therefore he has little concept of how money should be spent. He is drawn to nature and if he is not working he will be found outside enjoying himself even if it’s raining. He likes trees & anything to do with them. Matthew is friends with the bear who lives in the Secret woods. Who has now been recolored white. Matthew is very intune with nature and will say some cryptic things from time to time. But don’t think about it too hard. He’s just obsessed with bears and trees.
The Nursery- Matthew & Alfred’s house which doubles as a shop. On Tuesdays & Thursdays Matthew will man the counter at he and Alfred’s shop. On Matthew’s days the shop will operate as a tree nursery. He will sell tappers, maple syrup, pine, oak & maple seeds + a selection of fruit tree saplings.
Bakery Contribution- Matthew delivers his shipment of Sugar Pie to the bakery every Monday Morning. He will stay for about an hour and then head out to the river to stand awhile.
More under cut>>>
Desert Festival- It’s really hot out here.I’m not built for this weather. Flower Dance- The air here smells sweet. Not as sweet as my nursery though. Ask to dance? If yes- I was planning on just being a wall flower. But of course I’ll dance with you.   If no- *Matthew turns his back to you seeming to be pretending like he didn’t hear you* Firework Festival (New Event)- My brother always acts like these fireworks are for him. He can be so conceded sometimes. Luau- Hello (Player). Oh what did I add? It’s a secret. I’ll give you a hint it’s sticky and sweet. Trout Derby- Don’t distract me right now. Dance Of The Moonlight Jellies- Alfred has been pouting all night. It’s hilarious. Stardew Valley Fair- (Has a stand with Alfred where they are selling dairy products and tree products). We’re totally going to win this year we’ve been stowing away our best products all year. Brew Fest (New Event)- What would make this cup of coffee even better is a stack of pancakes covered in maple syrup. Spirits Eve- Arthur gets really into this festival. He and that strange guy in the tower were setting it up all day. Festival Of Ice-  This is my favorite festival. I wonder what the prize is this year. Squidfest- Don’t distract me right now. Letter contains maple syrup. 4 Heart letter: I saw you running around town the other day. I was going to say something to you but you seemed really busy. I stole this from my brother’s supplies. You’ve become a really good friend to me. I wanted to share with you my top secret recipe. My dad’s Sugar Pie Recipe. (PS. Be sure not to overcook it. If you think it’s not done, it probably is!) Sugar Pie- 2 Maple Syrup 1 Wheat flour 1 Egg H+ 65 E+200 (Letter contains recipe for Sugar Pie) 8 Heart Letter: I’m so glad I get to call you my friend. People in down don’t talk to me much. I always feel invisible, well unless it’s my brother. But when you came everything changed. You brought me out of my shell and I’m grateful for that. Next time you are in Cindersnap Forest meet me in the Secret Woods, you’ve been there right? There is someone I want you to meet. (Letter has no gift and is an invite to Matthew’s 8 heart event)
Romance Dialog
Receiving a Bouquet- You…you’re sure? Wow okay, I would love to.
Mermaid Pendent- I thought you would never ask! I was starting to get worried. I’ll pay for the whole thing don’t even worry about it.
Married Life With Matthew Jones:
When married to Matthew his corner of the farm will be two maple trees with tappers on them. Occasional gifts from Matthew will be a bottle of Maple syrup. Three days after marrying Matthew you will get a letter in the mail from ‘In-laws’ with 10k gold congratulating you and apologizing for not being at the wedding. Matthew will still leave the house every Tuesday & Thursday to tend his shop. Due to the time it takes him to walk there he will warp there and back and cannot be followed. Matthew will hardly ever be home and continue his schedule as usual. Replacing his house with yours. He will still go visit his bear friend by the river and his brother from time to time. He will not become a husk of his former self. Matthew will have coded in ‘grumpy’ days where he will be grumpy and not feel like talking. He may say ‘my brother and I had an argument’ or ‘the bears are mad at me’ don’t worry too much about it and he’ll be back to his regular self by morning.
(PART 2) "Alan"
Human reader on a space team with larger, scarier, and stronger alien teammates
My writing and framing styles are still changing as I'm very much still new at this. Thank you for y'alls support. <3
I hope you like it @hnowu ! :)
[SFW] [FLUFF] [PLATONIC]
-------------------------------------
Description
Alan, unlike you and Ursha, actually works outside of the loading bay/cargo hold. He was a very tall, lengthy lookin guy. He had quite beautiful blue skin with hints of green and grey stripes, kind of shimmery. He had a very long neck with a roundish head that came to a point at his chin, with very large very deep blue eyes. You could only see his pupils if a light was in his face. You could say he kinda looks like the stereotypical "👽" alien although that may be offensive to say. He had a fish like quality to him, in a good way of course. He was about 7'0 and had fine tapered limbs. His hands were very similar to a humans, but long and thin.
End of description
He worked in the "brain" of the ship as the crew liked to call it. The command center, the helm, etc. he worked towards the back away from the navigational work area, handling hardware or software problems while also looking over radars, level gauges, and some more. Others have this job as well, mainly when he goes to the rest of the ship to check the wellness of the machinery.
You saw him quite a lot when the crane in your department stopped working, which kept you from doing a large portion of your job. It took him about a week to fix, and in that time you two would discuss things like your families, home planet, country and town. He told you that a holiday from his country was going to happen soon, in the next two weeks he believed. Apparently it was centered around a good harvest season for mushrooms. You may have related it to thanksgiving, which he would love to hear about.
He said it all started from a historical event where there was some sick noblewoman, a woman who had done amazing things in their society, but the sickness was said to be incurable. That is unless they found a certain magic mushroom for her to eat. Many people in the city foraged for days, bringing in hundreds of mushrooms to be inspected. Just before she was about to pass, the mushroom was found. She regained her strength and carried on being a pillar of society for many more years. Since then, the people had hosted a mushroom festival every year to remember that great effort, and to celebrate our friends and family with the time we so luckily have with them.
At least, thats what he remembered about it. He explained that he couldn't possibly manage to get back to his family since you all were so far away on a big shipment, but he hoped to video call them. You also discovered he had been the medic previously, before the company hired a new one so they could promote him to the control center where that role was desperately needed.
He was very gentlemanly, and would off his hand when you were getting up and down things. Since he was very much larger than you, you sometimes felt like a kid. But he never teased you about it, unlike some others. The crew from the brain could be a bit snobby. Even towards scary people like Ursha. You were an easy target sadly. There have been times where he's talked to about it, having overheard his crew mates saying not so nice things. He apologized on their behalf stating they really weren't mean and were just a bit insensitive. You assured him it was fine.
You also talked about basic things like your favorite music genre. He said his was jazz and blues, along with a few genres you didn't quite recognize. If you believe he's old fashioned, he'd be more than willing to show you his favorite songs and hopefully change your mind.
All of this came to an end, sadly. The crane was fixed and he'd hardly have time to talk while he was doing his regular checkups on the machines.
He did leave you with one final question though,
"Would you perhaps like to join me when I call my family this weekend? I'm sure they would love to see you and hopefully you'll enjoy the festivities, even through the screen."
The 2nd Post
Hi, Its been 2 years since my last real post. So I've decided to compile a bunch of the work I've done, Finished or Not and post it here.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
VIP_Miami (Unfinished, Scrapped)
VIP_Miami was a map made for Team Fortress 2 Classic inspired by Gorge set between 2 hotels. This map was a test to see how urban, art decor could possibly look in the Team Fortress Style. This map ended up being cut due to being overscaled and messy. Playtesters did comment they liked the gazebo first point so I might return to that idea again sometime.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Koth_Crossover (Released)
A collaboration between me and the talented Gamingcam. We both set out to create Pre-Fortress 2's flagship map for the 0.7 update. Gamingcam handled the layout and initial art passes, while I mostly cleaned it up and overhauled the color palette to make the map more friendly and inviting.
Koth_Crossover Beta Variant (Unreleased)
For a good while Crossover featured moss on the top of its rocks. Despite being mostly positvitely recieved, I came to the conclusion that It didn't make much sense for what I was going for. So It was removed.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Dom_Canalzone (Unfinised)
Canalzone was a port of the Team Fortress Classic map of the same name. The difference being it was now Domination instead of Territoral Control like in TFC. This map was ported to test if 5 Control Point Domination could work. It somewhat worked but 3 Control Point maps were the superior way to go. I was planning to make a map inspired by Canalzone taking what I learned from this port but it never came to fruition.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Invade_Push (Unfinished)
A port of Push from Team Fortress Classic, Main goal was to create a port of Push that felt more open and not confined. I think this was achieved in my opinion. I'm happy with how this was turning out and I may return some day to finish it.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
DM_Icebox (Unfinished, Scrapped)
Icebox is a Deathmatch map made for Open Fortress. Inspired by IceWorld, Shipment, and Rust. The map is a fast paced kill-box. It was postively recieved however due to losing the source files I do not have the motivation to continue working on it.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
DM_Aqua (Unfinished, Scrapped)
Another map for Open Fortress, This map was never really playtested. Scrapped due to not being fond of how I laid out a lot of the layout ideas. I might return to these concepts in the future although.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
DM_Fotia Artpass Concept (Scrapped)
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
A while back I started a remake of DM_Fotia for Open Fortress. The map is still currently in development but this was a Art Test of what the map could've looked like. This was most likely the finalized idea till I lost the source files for the artpass. I will most likely explore different themes to see what I like the best.
Theres a lot more I wanna post that I can't include in this post so stay tuned for more stuff I guess.
The music was deafening, blaring on her and making her head hurt in a constant pulsation of uncomfortable pain. Not enough to actually hurt, yet. She sighed, calling a waitress to pick up the drink she had just made, placing it on the counter. She ran a hand through her hair with another sigh, not noticing Soap, hanging around a few feet closer than before.
"You 'right there lass?" He shouted over the music with a tint of concern in his cheery tone.
"Yeah, yeah, 'm fine." she laughed "just got a headache creepin' on me" she shouted back.
"You can take a break y'know?" He joked, still seeming concerned.
"I know, I know. I'm fine tho, really" She reassured, smiling. As much as she did want to take her break she was waiting on an important contact. The bartender nodded, going back to his own section.
Tumblr media
A man walked in the club. His dark clothing contrasted with the rich men and women, but they were all way too busy to even care. He sat at her bar and she walked closer with a polite smile. "What can I get for ya?" She asked, putting up a texan accent.
"I'm looking for Sam." He stated, as if he didn't want anyone to bother him.
"You're sitting right in front of 'er" She grinned and the man stared her down with a mocking expression.
"you're telling me you're the intel dealer" He sounded even more mocking than he looked. She chuckled and put her elbows on the counter, leaning her weight on it, crossing her hand and exposing just enough cleavage.
"Yessir, in flesh and bones"
"There's no way a sweetheart like you is the biggest informant out here. I mean, the most you would have is little girl gossip" He mocked.
She shrugged "Your loss honey" She mocked back, moving onto the next drink.
"Wait," He called "I need that deal"
She turned back to him. "Alright, here are my conditions. One, an eye for an eye. What you so much need, I want back, just the same. Second, no one gets to know who I am." The glint in here eye scared him, a mix of mischief, of interest and of a devilish fire. "So, do we have a deal?" Her grin was just as warning as her look, but it quickly faded when an older man in a suit called her, turning innocent. "One second" Her voice sounded so sweet she almost seemed harmless. Almost.
"Anything I can help you with Price?" she shifted her accent back to her usual neutral one, moving her hair to uncover her dyed hair.
"I just wanted to check on you, wouldn't want to overwork my staff." He joked. "Soap said you didn't look very well, you had him worried there."
"Really? Oh, no, I'm fine. I just have a slight headache" She smiled sheepishly.
"You should really take a break" Suggested Price.
"As soon as I finish with my order I will" She assured. He nodded and let her walk back to her bar, eyes lingering on her in worry before turning away. She took a breath, taking back her texan accent and covering again her dyed hair, taking a confident stroll towards her client.
"So, do we have a deal or not? I don't have all day."
"Fine" Grumbled the man.
"What d'ya need? If what ya give me is enough I might just as well give it to ya" She grinned again, the devilish glint back in her eyes.
Tumblr media
She blew out a puff of smoke as she waited for the phone to send her to voicemail. It felt nice to not have to fake an accent and let her voice rest, settling in her normal tone. "Hola Amor. La Araña is planning on moving a drug shipment tomorrow night in between Las Almas territory and 141 territory. Around 2 or 3 am. Hard drug. Have fun and good luck." She hung up right after.
She heard the emergency exit door open and she quickly threw her cigarette on the floor, putting it out and straightening up. "Oh, hey, I didn't know you were here" Noted Kyle when he noticed her.
She chuckled softly. "I needed some fresh air" The other man hummed and pulled out a pack of cigarettes.
"D'you mind?" She shook her head and he started smoking, settling them both in a comfortable silence.
"I didn't know you smoked" she teased and he snickered.
"Almost all of us do. Simon not so often, due to the mask and all, but he still smokes when he manages to catch a break. Chills us out, you know?"
"You seem to know each other quite well" she teased again, noting the information in the back of her brain. He nodded, saying how they were friends since a long time.
Tumblr media
Her expression almost showed her concern when she read the messages. "Kyle? Do you mind if I make a call?" She asked sheepishly.
"Not at all darling" he smiled. She refrained from wincing at the pet name. She dialed her wife's number and prayed to whatever being would hear her.
"Que paso Hermosa?" She heard V's voice and let out a breath in relief.
"Hola mamà" She let her wife know she was being heard by someone exterior. "Te deje un mensaje mas temprano sobre un paquete que tenias que recoger mañana. Una araña blanca creo. No vayas porfa, los azules van a estar allí y no quisiera que te los cruces."
"You're at work right? I'm guessing one of those little rats are standing besides you. So the drugs La Araña is moving are being intercepted by cops." The girl let out a hum in confirmation. "Y como sabes eso chiquita?" The voice Valeria used made her weak at the knees.
"Ale me aviso, ese tonto no sabe lo que anda haciendo"
"Good girl" The line went dead without even a good bye.
"Adios a ti tambien" muttered the young woman.
"She hung up on you" Teased Kyle.
"Yeah, that's my mother's attitude" Joked the girl.
Tumblr media
She sighed, dropping her bag on the floor and her keys on the table. Suddenly the door snapped closed and a pair of hands wrapped around her. One on her stomach and the other over her mouth. She gasped, going to pull the hand away from her mouth until she felt the cold hands slide under her dress shirt and over her neck.
"You should be more careful Karma, you never know who's waiting for you behind your door" Whispered her wife huskily. The young woman melted in the older's arms, finding herself unable to answer with the way the cold hands rested and moved against her skin. Valeria chuckled mockingly before pulling on the girl's jaw to kiss her deeply.
"You did a good job today love. I think you deserve a little reward"
Tumblr media
"Que paso Hermosa" - "What's up Beautiful"
"Te deje un mensaje mas temprano sobre un paquete que tenias que recoger mañana. Una araña blanca creo. No vayas porfa, los azules van a estar allí y no quisiera que te los cruces." - "I left a message earlier about a package you had to go get tomorrow. A white spider I believe. Please don't go, the blues are going to be there and I wouldn't want you to cross them."
"Y como sabes eso chiquita?" - "And how do you know that chiquita"
"Ale me aviso, ese tonto no sabe lo que anda haciendo" - "Ale told me, that fool didn't know what he was doing"
Tumblr media
A/N : I swear my pen slipped. I might write the rest of the scene, depending on how my friends that read my blog react to this one. If you like it, tell me or I might not do a part two or the headcannons I'm planning.
i don't get intimidated (girl, i celebrate it)
ffxivwrite2023 #13: check look at; take notice of.
Pre-relationship Tsuna/Hancock. Post-Stormblood. 993wc. ⮞ Checklist, 1 2 3 / you can tell me what you need ♫ (can it be me?)
Being a wealthy ijin living in Kugane for some time now made the presence of beautiful people somewhat of a given to Hancock Fitzgerald. Not in an arrogant or conceited way, mind you; where other, lesser men would forget their roots, Hancock could never forget his humble own and he looked upon those who clamoured for his attention and coin without disdain. How could he, when he himself knew what it was like to be desperate, to hope someone else would pick him from the squalor of an old life?
So, just as the early mornings of the port city were misty and the dining prices for tourists who didn't know any better were exorbitant if not outright extortion, Hancock was used to the preening and vying of men and women alike looking for a ticket out of poverty by way of his lap. He offered those who truly, earnestly needed it his coin purse but indulged even fewer in more base desires. Lord Lolorito had him here for business, not pleasure, after all, and Hancock was loyal to the man and the job.
But this—this was a feeling he wasn't used to.
Mizuhiki no Tsuna smiled across the bar, nodding along behind her folding fan as she listened to some ijin's tall tale of a battle he most certainly did not actually partake in. She was a vision in crimson as rich as the sunset over Kugane and she was quite deliberately emphasizing her breasts and curves to attract a growing crowd of men desperate to have the attention of a beautiful Hingan woman.
Her smile was like the sun. It wasn't directed at him.
Hancock knew since the Scions' first day in Kugane that Miss Tataru Taru took a particular interest in the Holstery's tavern and could be found here more often than not, playing up her charm as a foreign and rarely-seen Lalafell in this part of the world to curry favors and information out of local men. He'd also known that Tsuna would often join her on these ventures, herself being an expert in the arts of seduction and reconnaissance and objectively drop-dead gorgeous. But to see her in action, surrounded by other ijin men who thought of her only as their ticket to staying in the city or a good time in bed—
Something about it was churning his belly.
They were birds of a feather, the two of them, cutthroat when it came to coin and disinclined to reveal their full hand at once, doing good for themselves and those they cared about at the cost of their reputation. He was simply looking out for her, obviously, as someone who understood her character better than any other. It wasn't that deep.
But no. Tsuna knew what she was doing; she wasn't an innocent flower that could be preyed on. If anything, the woman was a fly trap, dripping honey in her words and actions. Luring others in was simply what she did best. She didn't ask to be looked after and she certainly didn't need to be.
(Hells, she'd all but lured him in too.)
Mizuhiki no Tsuna had no need for him. But… what of him for her?
"You must pardon me, ladies," Hancock said gently to his own entourage. "I see a friend of mine I must speak to." If the women who'd clung to him from the moment he entered the Holstery were bothered by his dismissal they said nothing, as per custom of Hingan inability to be straightforward.
A few of the men around her must have recognized him because they gave him dirty looks, muttered to each other, and promptly made themselves scarce when he approached. Tsuna didn't look offended at their sudden dispersal, resting her elbows on the table in a way that only further emphasized her cleavage as she waved them goodbye with a sly wiggle of her fingers. One of the men tripped up the stairs at the sight and Hancock made a note to find a reason to damn his next shipment of exports.
"Lady Mizuhiki!" he greeted jovially as he slid into the seat beside her when they were alone at last, keeping at a distance appropriate for colleagues.
"Hancock," Tsuna said, thankfully amused at his appearance. Her voice fell on him like cool, fresh water at the end of a sweltering Ul'dahn day and he thought he could drink it in forever. "I had not taken you for the sort of man to chase a woman's paramours away like a nuisance of pigeons."
"But you have taken me," he quipped and was delighted to draw a surprised laugh from her.
Beneath the shadows of the table, Tsuna reached out to rest a slender hand—that same hand that flippantly waved off her prospective lovers just moments before—on his knee and kept it there. He smelled only mint and yuzu and bergamot on her; she hadn't taken any drinks from her courtiers. "That I have."
Fighting back a swallow more appropriate of a teenager, he shifted a little closer. "I heard the Scions were busy on the Yanxian coast, but I did not think I would be so lucky as to be in your presence tonight," he said. "So, is it business or pleasure that brings you here tonight?"
"A bit of both," she said in turn. Her eyes were the colour of a fine champagne but in the low lights of the Holstery they almost glowed gold, more tantalizing than all the riches in Ul'dah's coffers. Leaning closer, she murmured, "But I could be persuaded to make it just one."
"I've given my aide the night off," he admitted, hoping he didn't sound overly eager or desperate. "The offices of the Ruby Bazaar are better for your presence, my friend."
Tsuna raised a thin brow but she didn't hide her smile behind her fan this time, taking his offered hand and disappearing into the city with him.
Adventures in beekeeping
May 2023
I went into winter 2022 with 5 hives, two of which were small and not expected to survive, and came out with two strong hives. Split each of them in March, but both splits failed. Caught 3 swarms, 2 of which are still going strong. Then the 2 big hives, out at the goat farm, both swarmed - guess I wasn't on top of them enough in late March & April, and they ran out of space despite the earlier splits I'd taken.
As of last weekend, neither had a laying queen, though they did have decent population & honey being made. I found queen cells that looked to have been used & opened, but no brood at all in one, and just a few scattered capped cells left in the other. Was there still hope they'd replaced their queens? I had to check the internet for a chart of the timeline, & compare to the last time I'd seen eggs or a queen in those hives.
Tumblr media
Good thing I take (& date) notes in my phone each time I inspect, or I'd never remember anything that's going on in my hives. One had definitely had a queen 3 weeks before, so not too worrying (though there's a lot that can happen to a virgin queen after she emerges, such as getting eaten by a bird on a mating flight). The other, though, had had a capped queen cell at that previous inspection, & evidence it had already swarmed then, meaning it was anywhere from "getting less likely" to "just about hopeless".
With the splits failed & both hives queenless, I didn't have an easy way to fix them. My home bees could potentially donate a frame of eggs, but that's still at least 4 weeks before a queen might get back to work, and the hives' population was already on the decline. I resolved to give them a few more days, and then come back with a purchased queen, to put in whichever hive needed it more. I'm working too much right now to get back to it any sooner, anyway, and had run out of time that day.
I had to reduce the size of one of those hives by half, as the population was low enough (must've been a big swarm, or a couple) that they couldn't defend all the honey they had, if another hive should try to rob them.
Ok, early honey harvest for me! The next day I dragged my extractor up out of the barn & cleaned it, got all set up, uncapped 4 frames, and started to spin them...and something went "thunk". A rubber piece that connects two pieces of the extractor had disintegrated, & I couldn't continue without it. I've been running all over looking for this part - learnt a lot about this type of coupler, something I couldn't even name yesterday morning - and concluded it's a nonstandard size, probably gonna have to replace the whole coupler. Very nearly got one that'd work at the bee supply place locally, but after much struggle taking mine all the way apart (it was quite stuck) we determined it wouldn't do after all, even though it could fit in place.
I picked up a queen from a shipment they got in today & went up to the goat farm, only to find both hives have new queens, both laying well. This is good, of course, but now what'm I going to do with this one I just bought?? Neither of those seemed a good candidate for a split she could go in, since they had no brood to share. Not impossible, but not ideal. So I took her home & split the larger of the two swarm hives, removing its original queen & 5 frames of bees, brood, & stores to a new hive, and putting my new bought queen in the original hive. It would be better to let them sit queenless for a couple days first, but keeping her in my house in her little box seemed more risky.
Meanwhile the partially-extracted frames are sitting in their boxes on my kitchen counter, wrapped in plastic wrap to ward off the ants, but the ants may find them nonetheless. My very good, very kind friend said I could come do my extracting at her house, though I couldn't borrow her equipment bc she's harvesting this week too. I'd love to go hang out with her, but I don't have the damn time, what with work & game night & Mother's day this weekend. If I can't get the part replaced in the next day or so, I'm going to have to figure out how to fit all these frames in my chest freezer, or I'll risk losing the honey.
Whew. It could be going a lot worse, but it's sure going a lot right now. I gotta finish my smoothie & get back to things. People will start arriving for D&D in 45 minutes, and I haven't mopped the floors or refreshed my memory of where we were in this dungeon.
this is so not important but i feel like i need to tell other people (especially if people have had similar experiences with me about this maybe it will help??)
so i bought one of the obey me teddy bears from Crunchyroll right
they were on pre-order like 2 years ago and they wouldn't be fulfilled till the following year - all good, this concept i understood
then, between when the pre-orders were placed and when the items were supposed to be fulfilled, Crunchyroll revamped their store - they are allowed to do that, make their processing easier, sure
with the change, they said some things that were pre-order would be delayed - fine, understandable, these things take time
when i pre-order shit, i put it out of mind so that when i get it, its like a fun lil surprise so im not worse for wear about it
about a year passes and i rmbr that i pre-ordered this teddy bear bc i think i saw someone on tumblr or twitter say they got theirs so i check to see if i ever got an confirmation email that it was sent (this is when i find out about the site and delays) so it says "pre-order items would be delayed 2-3 months after the initial shipping estimation - i figure its only when i was supposed to get the item so I'll check back in 3 months
i forget about it again and am reminded in decemeber when i receive the miss em doll that i preordered, that came from Japan..... I'm thinking wtf is going on with crunchyroll
so fast forward to this month - its 5 months after when the items were supposed to be sent. i scour the website trying to find anything that will tell me when this god damn teddy is supposed to be sent to me and i come up with nothing - they don't exist in the pre-order delayed items list and i still haven't received an email so i decide to send an inquiry to crunchy roll - i'm very respectful if not a little frustrated and in the email i'm like "i don't want my money back i just want the bear please"
its the busy season so they're like "it'll take some time to get a response" - fine i've waited this long already whats a few more days.
when i do get a response, i get this, which is basically what i could already glean from the rest of the website - nothing specific about MY order
Tumblr media
i coulda left it at this - fine, im just annoying, it'll come when it comes.............. but it's not in the pre-order delay list and if it is a delayed pre-order item it should be there......... so i send them a message back......
Tumblr media
not too rude, right? i think i'm just trying to be helpful.
THEN THEEEN
i check the teddy bear listing on their website and realize something...
Tumblr media
BITCH!!! THAT SAYS IN-STOCK!!!!!!!!!! WHAT!!!!!!
so i think maybe it's a mistake - they wouldn't straight up LIE to me about the shipment, right??? so i send a follow up message
Tumblr media
so i did my good deed for the day, now I'll just wait for them to be in stock and then ill get this silly little bear that i ordered like almost 2 years ago now
and wouldn't you know
i get this email like an hour ago
Tumblr media
it shipped out yesterday
they really fuckin lied to me huh
honestly i have to laugh, the whole situation is so silly and all this for one (1) orange bear 😆 but it's about the principal!!!!
one of my biggest pet peeves is when someone doesn't tell me something i should know without me asking!!!! if i was never annoying about this bear, i probably never would've gotten it!
i hope this prompts them to check and see if there are any other pre-order they left unfulfilled when they actually have the item in stock
tbh this isn't even enough for me to not buy from them anymore lol
did anyone else buy the bear(s) from Crunchyroll? did u get it no problem? am i special?
“What are you doing?”
“It’s Tucker’s birthday,” Y/N hummed, carefully creasing a random sheet of paper that had floated out of their last supply shipment. She flipped it over and creased it again before fiddling around and holding it out to Church. “It’s an origami flower.”
“How do you know it’s Tucker’s birthday?” He asked incredulously, setting his helmet on the table and heading into the kitchen for an MRE.
“How do you think,” she folded some scrap paper into a stem and set it into the flower, “I know?”
She pointed the finished product at Church as he leaned back against the counter, waiting for his MRE to finish cooking in the pouch. He stared at the flower in disinterest before shrugging and stirring his food.
“Don’t know, don’t care. I’ll be in my room if the reds attack.”
Church waved goodbye with his helmet, spoon hanging out of his mouth and food in the other hand.
“Don’t forget to wish Tucker a happy birthday!”
Y/N swore she heard a muffled fuck off, from around the corner.
She chuckled, raising her arms above her head and stretching out over the back of her chair. Tucker’s watch would end soon, and she would take over, and that’s when she’d give him his gift. Origami flowers are the best gifts, she’d told C.T one day while the woman was in for a checkup, they don’t need any care. They might even out live us, she’d shrugged.
At the time it was a throwaway comment, a bit of dark humor in an otherwise mundane meeting. Now she was left wondering how many of her flowers had outlived her friends. At the very least Flowers’ were still in a box with his personal effects, waiting to be picked apart by Tucker and Church. Not that command would pick them up anyways.
“Damn girl,” she opened one eye lazily to look at Tucker. “You should be out of armor more often.”
“Tucker,” Y/N warned, propping her chin up in her palm as she leaned against the table, “your watch isn’t over.”
“But it’s hot! And the reds are doing fuck all!”
“Church sat up there for all of his watch,” she grinned, the blue’s reluctance to do anything was refreshing, “I sat up there for all of my watch,” watching old helm recordings, “ now get your ass back up there.”
There was a faint grin on her face.
“I don’t have to listen to you,” Tucker quipped, crossing his arms like a petulant child, “you aren’t the captain, he’s dead.” Tucker leaned towards the medic in a playful challenge.
Y/N’s carefree demeanor shifted quickly, the hand holding her chin dropped to cross her arm on the table as she straightened up. Tucker matched her, straightening up and becoming a little more solemn as he chewed at his lower lip.
“Sorry…” he mumbled. “I know you two were close…”
“Don’t.”
“Bow Chicka Bow Wow.”
“Oh my god!” Tucker cleared his throat awkwardly, shifting from foot to foot as Y/N buried her face in her hands. She took a deep breath —that Tucker swore sounded a bit like a sniffle— before dropping her hands and picking up the flower from the table.
“Since it’s your birthday,” Tucker’s eyes widened a bit, “I’ll switch watch with you early, but,” she walked up to him and jabbed a finger into his chest, “only this once.”
“How did you-”
With a chuckle Y/N gave him a pat on the head and handed him the fake flower.
“Happy Birthday Lavernius.”
Hesitantly, probably still a little stunned, he took the flower. Slipping past him to her bunk, she could faintly hear Tucker call out, “Wait, can I get a birthday kiss?”
Kingdom of the Stars Chpt 2: The Market
Previous: Chapter 1
Next: Chapter 3
Asha winced, stepping through the crowd as she pulled her shawl even tighter. She continued making her way down the path, past the statues and banners of the royal family that seemingly adorned every street corner. She’d always hated those statues, especially the king’s. It made her feel as if she’d been watched every time she’d come to the market.
She paused, fighting down the nerves and paranoia, as now and then, she’d spare a few glances behind her. Sometimes it was for the uncaring crowd that nearly swallowed her.  Other times it was at the merchants who stood by their stalls, talking and waving to the crowd that passed by.
The day had just started and already the market was filled to the brim with regular customers and tourists alike. Everyone was crowding around stalls to listen to those who’d begun to entertain them with stories.
“They say those who own this tapestry will always have their wish granted,” she heard one merchant woman call to the large crowd that had formed around her stall. Her fingers swept over the intricate patterns of the tapestry. “It will bring you everything you need and then some- you’ll never be wanting again!”
“Ay poppycock and hogwash!” came another voice from nearby as a middle-aged man waved dismissively at the woman. “Listen to me, the king and I go way back!” He straightens himself, proudly showing his display of jewelry that decorated his stall. “You show the king one of these, and he’ll grant your wish.”
A small chorus of oos and aas seemed to rise from the crowd as she saw the elderly woman point accusingly at the man hissing, “Lies! You’ve never seen the king in your life!”
She watched as the man scowled, yelling back as the crowd continued to watch on.
Asha hurried on. You didn’t have to be a sorcerer like the king to be able to tell that this would probably get nasty very quickly, but it was how things were every month the wishing ceremony approached.
Asha was quite certain that half of the people selling things, like most of Rosas, had never had their wishes granted. But, like the rest of Rosas, they were probably being paid a nice sum of money and privileges to act like they had been.
To their credit, their ruses seemed to work, as the people were always so enraptured. Everyone asked questions about what they (the merchants) did to have their wish granted. All of the answers were convincing, that had she not known better, she would’ve fallen for their ploys as well.
She continued making her way past the next stall. Unlike most of the others, the boy here had been the lucky attendee who’d managed to get his wish granted at the last ceremony. It had been what most would call, a true lightning-in-the-bottle moment, as not only had he had his wish granted, but it had been his first wish as well.
As per tradition, the minute he’d turn eighteen he’d handed his first wish over to the king, who’d shockingly granted it the same night it had been wished. The kid had become an overnight celebrity in town, with more people clamoring to his stall than anyone else’s.
Asha had to admit that it was nice to see, as at the very least all this attention had meant that he was making more money that he could use to support his family, which was arguably one of the more practical things someone could wish for.
She continued her venture into the market. Save for the heat and crowd, the day was almost, nice. The sun was out and the sky was a marvelous blue, with a few clouds here and there. Maybe if she hadn’t been so busy she could’ve stopped to enjoy the wonderful weather of the early morning…
“Well if it isn’t our favorite customer! Always early as usual.” comes the blacksmith’s voice as he and his stall come into view. “Come to pick up another shipment?”
She nodded, “I have. I tried to come early this morning to beat the crowd, and because I had to pick up something for the king that arrived today. But unfortunately, it seems as if said crowd had the same idea.” She paused, looking around the people as if to emphasize her point.
The blacksmith grinned, reaching behind the counter of the stall as he picked up the package, handing it to her, “Ha! Take it from someone who’s lived through a handful of these, there’s no way of beating the crowd, it just doesn’t happen. Everyone wants to get up on time because everyone wants something. If it’s not to make a wish, then it’s to buy, if it’s not to buy then it’s to sell! If it’s not to sell- well,” he pauses shrugging. “I don’t know.”
“Maybe it’s for experience?” Asha asked, stepping out of a few people’s way. She’d recognize their clothing as being from Corona.
“Probably!” the blacksmith called thoughtfully. “The meteor shower on the same night as the wishing ceremony does sound enchanting.”
She wasn’t quite sure how to respond to that, before looking down at the package. Enchanting was certainly one way to put it, especially if you hadn’t been in the castle for the past few months. All the stressing, preparation, and planning had made the event a little less tolerable than it should have been for her.
“Oh that doesn’t look good,” the blacksmith’s voice says, bringing her attention back to the present as she looks towards him.
“What?”
“That,” he repeated, pointing to the path where she’d come from. There were several merchants now staring each other down as the crowd looked on in anticipation. Everyone knew that the king had long since outlawed fighting, but that hadn’t meant that people couldn’t get a bit creative with their conflicts…
Asha shook her head, she didn’t want any part of that, not when she had so much to do today. “How much do I owe you?” she asked the blacksmith, offering him a handful of coins.
“Eh, consider this one on this house.”
“Really? But this shipment couldn’t have been cheap! Please let me at least compensate you-”
He shakes, “the royal family of Corona has felt quite generous in their metal trades with us lately, and besides, consider it a wishing ceremony gift! To my favorite customer!” he says straightening his posture.
“Thanks,” Asha says offering him a small yet hesitant smile as she feels the unease in her stomach once more. “I appreciate it.”
“Good. Now if you’ll excuse me-,” he begins before vaulting over the edge of his stall and taking off towards the growing crowd.
“Hey- where are you going?!”
“To go place bets!” he calls over his shoulder. “I’ve been waiting a long time for this!”
She took a hesitant step backward watching as more people followed. She knew she should do something to put an end to it, but the last thing she wanted was for anyone to know that one of the king’s apprentices had been in the market this morning. It would make everything she planned to do a lot harder.
Carefully she opened the box the blacksmith had given her, sifting through the pieces of well-made metal gears, screws, and bolts before carefully selecting what she needed. Sliding the package back into her satchel, she placed it next to the one that she'd picked up for the king earlier.
She quickly tugged her hood over her head before setting off in the opposite direction, towards the thankfully less crowded part of the market.
Quietly, she slipped out the note she’d hidden in her pocket as her eyes scanned its contents. She’d spent all night mentally rehearsing what she would do today and how she would do it. There was never any room for error when it came to things that could quite possibly get you accused of treason.
With a shaky sigh, she placed the note back into her bag, before walking towards what she’d  called ‘the checkpoint’. It was nothing more than a hall that the king had taken the liberty to have murals painted on. All of said murals depicted the king engaged in a ferocious battle against different kinds of monsters, for what he’d claimed, had been for the safety of Rosas. Some of the monsters had been bigger than others, but she’d have to admit that the artist had done a wonderful job of making them all appear just as devastating as Magnifico had claimed they’d all been. Every crack in the mural seemed to tell a story of the monster’s power that had threatened to tear the world apart e
Rumors had it that Magnifico would be unveiling the final mural on the night of the celestial ball, one that he claimed had contained a beast so ferocious, that when he’d originally fought it, the results of their battle had turned Rosas into an island.
Of course, Asha wasn’t certain how historically accurate that had been, as the king’s always present staff had been missing from all of them, but she had to admit that at the very least the murals were eye-catching. To tourists, it was a great way to learn more about Rosas's art and history, but to Asha, she’d said that it was a great way of navigating your way through the market, thanks to standing out.
Finally, she spotted a stall full of fresh produce. But unlike before this stall had no crowds which was to be expected given that the woman, Adelita, couldn’t sell her product the way everyone else had. Everyone had known from the way her younger brother had cried at the last wish ceremony, that the king had failed to grant her wish. A wish that Asha had later learned involved fixing the boy’s broken toy. But despite all that, Asha had doubted that she’d even considered it in the first place, given how honest Adelita was.
She took a few hesitant steps, careful to lower her head from the passerby’s before she stopped in front of the stall. It had only taken her a second to meet Asha’s eyes as Asha saw her face light up. “Good morning!” She’d said with a small curtsy that nearly made Asha grimace. She looked around, thankful to see that everyone had been too engrossed in the growing unrest down the street to notice.
 Asha watched the boy sit down next to the stall. He’d carried his broken toy with him. He looked so defeated as his fingers grazed the edges of the toy’s broken jaw.
“Good morning,” Asha answered, straightening her posture. Her eyes scanned the stall, taking note of what she’d need. “I would like to buy some apples, please. For Valentino-,”
“Ah! Valentino! How is he doing?”
“He’s doing fine.He was a little unhappy that I left him behind this morning.” That had been the truth, as the little goat had been rather upset the moment she’d announced that she would not be taking him with her to the market. But from how the butcher had been eyeing him the last time they’d come, Asha was confident that leaving him behind had been for the best.
“Oh we must’ve run out of apples-,” she begins with a frown. “Wait right here-,” she begins as she heads into the room behind the stall. Soon, Asha’s mind begins searching for a reason to get the boy to leave too. She admittedly hadn’t counted on her leaving him out here, not when past experiences had taught her that the boy knew the back's organization system better than his sister.  “Caio!
The boy, or rather Caio, frowns, wiping his eyes with the back of his hand before he turns to where she’d disappeared. “Yes?”
“Can you show me where you put the apples again? I can’t find them!”
He sighed, placing his broken toy down on the table as she watched him venture into the room as well.
No sooner does he leave than Asha springs into action, taking the toy into her hands. The toy faintly reminded her of the toys she’d seen in the old books in her study- toys from a world long past- before Rosas had even existed. No wonder he’d wanted it fixed so badly, maybe it had been a family heirloom of sorts, she concluded as she carefully examined it before opening its back. The toy was of a small soldier full of small gears and screws. It was broken but not unfixable- she thought as her eyes landed on the piece that needed replacing.
It only took her a second to remove the screw before replacing it with the one she’d bought. She had to move quickly, she told herself but Years of practice and studying had seen to the speed she’d now had and needed she thought before carefully placing the now fixed toy down on the table before stepping away.
A few moments later she watched as the siblings returned with a bag of apples. “Thank you,” Asha said, watching as Caio’s eyes widened as he held the toy up in awe.
“Look!” He cried. “Look my toy got fixed!”
Really?” Adelita called in disbelief.  “Let me see. Wow!” She smiled as she watched the boy hold the toy close, laughing as she embraced him. “See? I told you would get your wish granted!”
Wait what? But…that hadn’t been- the king hadn’t- she paused watching how happy the two siblings were as a small crowd had begun to gather.
“He got his wish granted!” Adelita called as the crowd began to cheer, many shouting praises to their king, Magnifico.
A part of her knew she should’ve been a bit upset- after all, it hadn’t been the king who’d taken time to study the toy’s mechanics or save up enough money to order the parts needed! But, seeing the pure joy on their faces had been worth it.
Thankful for the easy escape the crowd provided, Asha soon found herself headed down the path once more. She stopped reaching into her satchel for the list she’d written the night before. There was only one other task to do today in the market, but this wouldn’t be as easy as the task she’d done before.
On paper, it looked simple. Deliver a dress that someone had wanted to wear in time for the astral ball. She’d lucked out when the seamstress aka her mom had agreed to help her make the dress, but getting it to the girl who’d made the wish wouldn’t be as simple. After looking through the records, Asha learned that the girl lived in the western part of Rosas, which was so far away that Asha knew she’d have to ask for time off to go, and asking for time off would make the king suspicious, and that was the last thing she ever wanted.
A suspicious Magnifico was not a tolerable Magnifico. Her apprenticeship had taught her that much. If he were to find out about-,
“Oof!” I’m sorry!” She cried as she felt herself almost collide with someone passing by. She’d been so occupied in her thoughts that she’d forgotten to be more aware of her surroundings.
Fear grew in her stomach as she offered the unfortunate stranger a steadying hand. It was reckless to stop like this- she thought watching as the stranger took her hand steadying themselves.Sure there were a lot of tourists here, but what if this person recognized her? What if they were another apprentice here to spy on her because the king had been suspicious or, or!
“Thank you, dear,” the person, a woman, says.”And here I thought I’d have to make arrangements to meet you in the castle today.” Wait she knew that voice… it couldn’t be… was it?
She took a step back, looking the person over once before it finally hit her who exactly she had run into. “Mom?” She called, looking as her mother smiled, pulling her hood back to reveal her face.
“Good morning Asha,” she said, with a knowing grin teasing at her lips. “You’re looking well today.”
“Mama? Wait a second what are you doing here? I thought-,”
“That I’d be back home?” She says with a small grin. “Well I came here to surprise you-, so surprise!”
Asha l couldn’t help but chuckle at her mother’s gesture. “Well, I can’t say that I wasn’t surprised-,”
“Surprise me? It’s not my birthday is it?” She asked. She’d admittedly been doing a poor job of keeping track of it lately, but in her defense, if she forgot to celebrate it one year she could make up for it in the next.
“Asha, you didn’t forget your birthday again, did you?”
“What? No! No, there’s no way I’d forget that my birthday was in a week-,”
“Asha, it’s in three days.”
“That’s what I said, right?” she asked while offering her mother a nervous laugh.
Her mother shook her head, her smile waning with displeasure as Asha cringed. “It’s not your birthday, at least not yet anyway, but I figured that with the ceremony and hall coming up you’d be needing my help. So I came here to,”
“Your help?”
“Of course! I don’t just make dresses for other people. You’ll need a dress for your wishing ceremony, won’t you? And thankfully I have a few ideas.” She says as she pulls a bunch of papers from her basket which unfortunately seems to briefly grab the attention of some passerby’s.
“Mama! Please!” Asha grimaced glancing around as she pulled her mother to a nearby empty stall. “I appreciate the help and the ideas but I don’t need it! It’s really not necessary or required,”
“Not required? Nonsense! The wishing ceremony is one of the most important events in your life! That’s the first wish anyone in Rosas ever gets to make!”
Asha sighs, shaking her head, “Mom most of those wishes don’t even end up getting granted. I told you- he just keeps them in a room like how Grandpa keeps his weapons and armor in the pantry. There’s no point in doing this!”
“Your grandfather still takes them out from time to time!” She begins. Which Asha had to admit was true. He had a bad habit of showing them off to the kids who’d hang out by his bakery in the evening.
“Well yes but that’s Grandpa, and the king is well…the king.”
“He will get to them in due time,” she says with a small nod as Asha sighs. This hadn’t been the first time they’d spoken about this, but it had always ended the same way with her mother never quite agreeing with her no matter how many times she tried to dispute it. “And even if he doesn’t he’s been very kind to us. After your father passed he saw to it that we were taken care of. I know he might not be easy to work with or understand, but I wish you’d at least be a bit more open-minded about this.”
Open minded.
Asha shook her head. There were only so many things you could be open-minded about before reality set in, and this was one of them. “I’ll try Mama but I’m serious I don’t need to wish. None of us do. You became one of if, not the best seamstress in all of Rosas all on your own, no wish was needed.”
“I did, but Sometimes it’s not a matter of need but want. It never hurts to try.” Asha gritted her teeth, silent as her mother continued, “I still remember what my last wish was.”
Asha felt herself pale at those words, “You made your last wish?” The king never made exceptions to the wishes, but the death of her father, the king’s close confidant had seemingly brought out another side to him that very few saw. He’d let her grandpa and mother have a second wish. He’d even offered her one, but it had been too little too late, what she’d wished for hadn’t been answered the day her father had been laid to rest.
“I did,” her mother answers the humor very briefly leaving her voice.
“Why? When did you do that?”
“When I arrived yesterday. I made it for the very same reason I’m here.”
“Mama-,” she began, trying not to feel hurt at the idea of her mom going to the king for something rather than her.
She straightens her posture, something she always did when she’d more or less declared an argument to be over. “Asha, speaking of your grandfather, it's almost his 100th birthday and you know it would mean the world to him if you came home.”
Part of Asha wanted to tell her mother that she wasn’t sure she could. The whole palace had been upside down about this ball, and the last thing she was sure Magnifico wanted was anyone leaving. But when was the last time she’d gone home?
She couldn’t remember, and she’d missed seeing her grandfather and hearing all of his crazy stories from the days he’d been captain of the guard. She’d missed seeing the children who’d sometimes come to the bakery just to hear his tales too, and sometimes she missed the baking.
But her mother had said that the last wish she’d made had been the same reason why she was here. If their current conversation was anything to go off of then Asha was willing to bet that both wish and reason had something to do with her, something she knew Magnifico would probably never grant but she could. She’d grant her own mother’s wish- no magic required.
 “Alright…I’ll try to ask them for some time off.”
“Good,” she says her smile returning, albeit a bit smaller than before. “Now tell me- how has your apprenticeship been?”
“It’s been fine,” Asha lied without hesitation. In all actuality, it had been all but fine. Most had thought that being an apprentice of the king was a gateway to more opportunities such as power, wealth, and knowledge- some even believed that the king would make his favorite apprentice the next heir to the throne. She supposed There was some weight to this belief, as the king and queen had had no children, and the king’s nephew was…unfortunately no longer an option.
But that’s all it was, a belief, a pleasant theory that was quite contrary to the well-hidden reality.
“Is that your friend over there?” Comes her Mother’s voice again.
“Over where?” Asha blinked before looking in the same direction that her mother was. There near the hall of murals was a girl whom Asha faintly recognized as one of the other apprentices. For a moment, their eyes meet, and Asha watches as the girl’s seemingly ever-present smile vanishes and she narrows her eyes. It’s so brief, that for a moment, Asha begins to wonder whether or not she’d imagine it as a new smile makes its way onto the girl's face as she turns back towards the crowds.
Asha was nearly tempted to kick herself. She’d nearly forgotten the other reason why she would usually wake up to leave so early. Tours. She hated running into tours, especially during this time of the month.
“Right this way folks!” She called, a new smile made its way on her face as she enthusiastically waved the Rosas flag. “And here we have the hall of murals each one depicting a battle that our wonderful king went through to keep his kingdom the safe and happy Rosa’s we’ve all come to know and love today!” The crowd appropriately oohs and aahs as they take on the expansive murals that decorate the building. “On the eve of the Astral ball the king will debut the final mural!” she begins, trying to appear as ‘mysterious’ as she gestures to a mural covered by a dark-colored curtain, obscuring most of it from view. “Alright folks, now follow me! There’s still more to see!” she calls as the sounds from the earlier merchant standoff begin to grow louder.
And for the second time that day, her smile disappears, as she casts the growing crowd an uneasy glance as she begins to hum. Asha watched as she slowly began to lead the group in that direction of the market. “What was your friend’s name again?” her mother asked while beginning to sway to the music that had begun the moment the girl had started to sing, “Welcome to Rosas, come on, come this way, Where the greatest creations are all on display!”
“Her name is Hal and she is not my friend,” Asha begins. Truth be told, Asha had no friends, but her mother didn’t need to know that. Quickly turning her back to the passing group of dancers, she begins to look around the market and empty stalls. “It’s happening again.”
“What’s happening again?” she heard her mother call, as various people in the market began to join in the song and dance. Even the merchants who’d looked like they had been mere seconds from fighting one another were singing along and dancing together like friends!
“There’s no other place just as full of surprise when your dreams and reality can collide!”
“Asha, is….is something wrong?”
Asha frowned as she moved some boxes, and crates before looking around once more.“Mama haven’t you noticed that people in this kingdom tend to spontaneously burst out into song and when they do, there always happens to be music coming from somewhere, but there are never any musicians around?”
“No?” her mom shakes her head. “I’m not sure what you mean?”
“Cause here in the city of Rosas! You can turn all your wanting to wishing, no what ifs and no wonders~”
“Seriously!” Asha calls, staring at a few chickens who waltzed by their feet and towards Hal. “Where is that music coming from?!”
“Does it matter? The song is pretty catchy.”
“I know,” she answers with a semi-roll of her eyes. “So catchy in fact that the same king who couldn’t approve funding for my boat designing projects just so happened to mysteriously find enough money for the tourist sector the moment they added in the ‘Magnifico is so amazing’ verses to that song.”
Her mother chuckled, before placing a comforting hand on her shoulder, “He’ll approve of your projects eventually. He probably just wanted to give the tour sector more resources to make the place feel friendly. It’s a great way to network and meet people, you know.” She pauses, a sudden thought occurring to her before she says, “Weren’t you a tour guide?”
“A long time ago,” She paused, as the music continued to grow as more and more people joined in on the song. They all seemed so lively and happy whenever this mysterious played songs that everyone just so happened to know the lyrics to. Come to think of it, how did everyone know what lyrics to sing and what cues to pick up on? Were they holding secret rehearsals that she hadn’t been invited to?
She was just about to say something else to her mother when she was interrupted by the sound of the clock tower’s bell, signifying the day’s ‘official’ beginning, or what she’d like to call it, ‘the signal to get back to the castle before arousing any suspicion’.
Today of all days was not a day to take such a signal lightly, not when the meeting with all of the apprentices and advisors would be happening in less than an hour! No one had known what the meeting was for, but given the sudden urgency it had been announced, Asha suspected that it couldn’t have been for anything good.
“Ah! I have to go! The king needs his package!” she called to her mother as she fixed her hood. She paused to place a quick kiss on her mother's cheek before taking off in the opposite direction of the dancing and singing crowd.
She’d have to find the weird source of the music later as she began to make her way back to the castle before the crowd would inevitably grow far larger.
“Alright!” Her mother called. “Have a good day and remember! Ask for time off!”
She could only nod as she made her way back to the moss-covered side of the castle where the entrance to the secret tunnels was. Unlocking the door, she quietly stepped into the dark halls without hesitation as she began to make her way back into the castle, mentally preparing herself for the true challenges that lay ahead of her.
182 Days of TPN - Day 25
Chapter 25: “Inspection, Part 2”
There is a whole lot of details in this chapter cover and while I won’t list out every little thing (because that could be an entire post itself), I would feel worse if I didn’t mention it at all. Demizu’s artwork is something to behold y’all.. every day I’m thankful we had someone as talented as her to bring this wonderful story and its characters to life. I love her drawing style so much.
Tumblr media
I once again forgot that shortly after arriving, Isabella does this laugh. Probably because the panel differs from the anime so much that I can never remember. The anime is hilarious though, look at it giving NE little dots for eyes.
Tumblr media
The fact she can say such a thing right to their faces like that without an ounce of guilt.. you’re terrifying ma’am.
Tumblr media
I’m certainly repeating myself from her bday post when I say that nothing she says here is really a lie. Paired with everything I rambled on about back in ch20 about the mom offer, it’s truly fascinating that the moms & sisters are labeled as the enemies only because the plot told them to be. Villains can be so complex and vary from one another in so many ways.. and when you can understand their motives, ideals and emotions to the point where you actually feel sympathetic and start to cheer for them a little, that’s the scariest thing about them. (all the children realize her words are true and Emma voices this for them towards the end of the story aka: during the chapter that breaks my heart).
Tumblr media
Of course she knew Don & Gilda were involved with the trio as well, but you’re damn lucky she considers you all special enough to not be shipped out. Half because it further guarantees her own safety as she produces more high quality merchandise for the farm, while the other half of the reason is that she cares.
Tumblr media
I do love that NE essentially came up with this plan telepathically, but what would’ve happened if roles were switched? I don’t think Norman would be able to hold back Isabella at all, but Emma might have been a bit quicker to use the rope to investigate the wall perhaps? Even then, if Isabella snapped Norman’s legs like twigs, would it have been Emma who gets shipped out instead? Or was Norman the ideal shipment regardless? I don’t recall if the shipment being set in stone was ever brought up and if so from where, but seeing how Emma is our main protagonist, it’s safe to assume Norman could’ve been doomed regardless. I can chat about this series all I want but I’m in no way the most knowledgeable about it, that’s for sure pfftt.
Tumblr media
PAIN! Literal fucking pain and agony! Damn it all, I hate how perfect I can still hear her leg break but that just means the anime did a real well job with it.
Tumblr media
Ma’am now isn’t the time to be laughing! This is a rare moment where I actually despise you!
Tumblr media
Favorite panel/moment:
No doubt one of the best jaw-dropping cliffhangers of this series. You would think the full trio would have this unbreakable protagonist plot-armor, especially with them always reminding us that they plan to escape with everyone, yet here we are fearing for this boy’s life with not much time to spare. Such a bittersweet-sweet moment for sure. Obviously bitter due to the danger Norman’s now in but sweet because of how on edge the shipment situation makes us feel as well. And sweet again because.. damn Isabella, she’s on a roll today huh? Pulling checkmates left and right.
End of volume 3.
September Readings
So, the other day I did a whole ass Celtic Cross reading for September, instead of my usual 5 card pull. Just wanted to get a little extra context and direction. But also, I wanted to take some extra time with it this month and really, really sit with what it was showing me. And I think that was a good call.
For context, I started with more of a general question than I normally might have: what's our general outlook over the next 3-6 weeks? (I prefer to give CC readings a time frame so I can differentiate better between the future and outcome cards lol.) I then touched briefly on the main points I wanted to focus on: home renovation projects, writing, relationship stuff, etc.
Tumblr media
It was... a lot of Swords. I don't normally get them a lot in readings, so when I do it tends to make me a little uneasy - especially cards like Ten. But contextually, I think the overall message here was actually rather positive (and gently scolding lol.)
So first... the cross...
Ace of Swords crossed by the Ten of Swords: we've got a lot going on right now! Lots of projects starting that really needed to be started, lots of stuff that's really engaging our brains - where are things going? How are we going to redesign our space? Will it work better? Will it work at all? It's taking a lot of planning and creativity to make happen. However, we've had a TON of setbacks and general negative bullshit happening to us throughout the process - issues with contractors, things breaking (or arriving pre-broken), shipments getting lost, a car accident, etc. It's all been getting to us a bit, and we've been kinda wallowing in our own misfortune to varying degrees, which isn't really great for keeping your brain engaged on the things you're working on. What this combination is asking us to do is quit stumbling through the streets, wailing and rending our clothes because One More Bad Thing happened, and to just get on with it - even if it sucks.
Queen of Wands in the Subconscious position: this loops back to the context of our Ace of Swords above, as this position kind of sets the foundation of the querent's mindset and position in the situation. In this context, she speaks to focused energies. We are committed to our path, and we're going to put everything we have into getting what we want. No flakiness to be found here - which considering this is an ADHD house, is amazing to hear lol.
Two of Cups in the Recent Past position: this particular card really is what cemented the idea that this reading is aimed at both of us for once lol. This card is usually a symbol of romantic love (especially new), but it can also represent partnership. Everything we're doing now is the result of joint decisions, and mutual support and effort. No one is in this alone. So despite all the bullshit, we've got each other to lean on, and that's huge. (This plus the Queen signal that we're working off a very strong foundation, and that we've at least started off in the right direction.)
King of Swords in the Crown position: so this is basically like... the aspirational self. And in the past, I might have seen this card and handwaved it away as only representing my partner (who does frequently show up as the Kings in my readings, FWIW) but it does go a little deeper than that this time. This card represents logic and intellect above all else. In short, the need to make firm, well-researched decisions before moving forward. In other words, right now we're trying to do a ton of reading and measuring and comparisons before we move forward with anything. That seems like it's been serving us well so far.
2 of Swords in the Self position: okay so this is where my deck starts calling me out for filth, because this card has to do with choices, or rather: indecision. This is something that I struggle with a ton in general, but also particularly with a lot of these changes we have going on. I get so hung up on what ifs and on others opinions that I freeze up and wait for someone else (namely my partner) to pick. That's not really cool, and it's definitely a source of some tension right now (I'm not the only one in the house suffering from executive dysfunction and decision fatigue.) I'm reading this as asking me to basically just shut up and pick one, and if it's the wrong choice, deal with it then, because...
7 of Pentacles in the Future position: I have been getting this card a LOT lately, which makes sense given the projects we're working on and the goals we're working towards - even with my writing. Progress is SLOW but it is STEADY and we are laying the groundwork for success. As long as we keep at it, we will succeed. But more importantly for our dopamine-chasing lizard brains: while the fruits of our labors are not going to be immediately evident, we're going to see some results soon. OR, worst case scenario, the proper foundations will have been laid.
Now for the staff.
8 of Swords in the Environment position: the whole point of this card is about feeling stuck, but not actually being stuck. All I have to do is try and I can most likely solve a lot of my problems myself. But anyway this one goes hand in hand with the Two, supporting the idea that I need to just do it. Adjustments can be made later, but you can't adjust nothing.
Eight of Pentacles in the Hopes and Fears position: this is a very encouraging card overall. It represents slow but steady progress, hard work, and building towards success. We're most likely on the right track, and we should keep up the good work. :)
Ten of Cups in the Outcome position: this is hands down one of the best cards to get in this position. Tens typically symbolize a sense of completeness, whether it's the end of a cycle or the achievement of a goal - and the Ten of Cups is no different. It's the happy family card. Lots of joy and contentment here (and honestly if the way I felt after I reorganized the pantry I now have was any indication, then this tracks lol.) Also, the timeline lines up with our family vacation, so... there's that lmao.
So what does this all mean in the context of the month? Basically, that it's gonna get off to a rough start, but gradually get better - so long as we actively work to make it so, and don't let ourselves wallow in the bad. Fair enough!
As for the runes and Oracle cards...
Tumblr media
Kenaz: light, creative fire. For once, not showing up reversed lol. Might be that the brain gremlins are looking to behave!
Ansuz, reversed: communication, or rather a lack thereof in this context. There's going to be some breakdowns.
Berkana: new beginnings, growth. Lots of stuff getting set up now that mean we can actually put plans into action this month, so here's hoping!
Death: despite the name, this is similar to the tarot card in that it is more about change and transformations - consider the moth! As well as the moon (cycles.) Things are ending and beginning.
Protect: this one I'm admittedly a bit fuzzy on, but worth noting that it includes the planetary symbol for Earth. Could also include the sun, but tbh I'm getting more holy mother and child here. Gotta think about how that one fits in.
Anyway, that's September's reading (posted several days late lol.) Let me know in the comments if you've got any different reads on this than I do. :)
