Continued from here for @electricea!
Sonia wasn't sure how to answer his question. The only family member she'd ever experienced mourning was her grandfather, the previous King of Novoselic. She'd been four years old and it was a state funeral, televised around the country and across the world. She'd ridden in the same black car as her mother, very pregnant aunt, and grandmother and had begun to tear up on the way to the service. In the ten minutes between the first few tears and the car pulling up in front of the cathedral, her grandmother, now Queen Mother, had swiftly reminded her (currently) only grandchild that it was a privilege to attend a state funeral at her age. Most children would've been left at home for such an important event, and it was vulgar to appear sobbing in public and that Sonia, Princess of Novoselic and now heir to the throne, would cease immediately.
Whether it had been her tone or her grandmother's stern glare in her direction, Sonia had wiped her eyes on the back of her gloved hands, sat straighter in her seat, and watched the assembled mourners go by. Her grandmother had rounded on her mother next, likely inquiring after why the future monarch thought it appropriate to blubber outside of the Castle's walls and why her mother hadn't properly instructed her otherwise.
Tumblr media
Sonia swallowed: that was the closest she'd ever come to feeling something at the death of a family member. Members of the Royal Family were meant to console, to provide hope and a vision for moving forward. Feelings...well, anything beyond compassion and cheer were left behind those iron gates. Safe, hidden from the public at all costs, save for a well-placed sniffle or tear in the most dire of situations.
"Yes, that...that's perfectly all right," She finally agreed, nodding. Her own mixed emotions on the matter, well, they didn't matter. Ryuji, and what he was currently facing, that was what was important. "You may have not been close with your father at all, but it's still a loss. Any way you react or mourn, no matter the amount or intensity, it won't be a wrong way to do so. Because there is no wrong way, I think: though I'd caution against any sort of self-harming behaviors. That tends to create more pain than anything else."
For the one harming and those who had to live with and console them, her parents' constant fighting being the prime example. But Sonia took one of Ryuji's hands and gave it a squeeze: the least she could do, with a shaky smile, was remind him that he wasn't alone. He wasn't alone, and that he wouldn't be subject to an empty stomach much longer.
"I'll order something, you should go get cleaned up," She assured him, letting go of his hand so she could occupy herself with her mobile phone. Several years living mostly away from home had managed to familiarize her with food delivery apps, and it wasn't long until she'd ordered two bowls of beef donburi, an order of vegetable tempura, half a dozen yakitori skewers, and for Ryuji especially, an order of ramen, with instructions to keep the toppings in separate containers to be added upon delivery. To keep the noodles from getting soggy, of course.
When Ryuji had finally emerged, Sonia had managed to open nearly every cupboard and drawer in his apartment's small kitchen in search of plates, bowls, chopsticks, spoons, and napkins. Two plastic bags filled with various containers sat steaming on his kitchen counter. "Your timing is impeccable," She smiled, setting down the second pair of chopsticks over a folded napkin. Sonia had tried to mimic the way her staff set a table but his cutlery and tableware were, thankfully, not as complicated as her own. That was both a blessing and a curse: where did the soup spoon go, if not next to the first course's knife?
Insignificant, in the grand scheme of things. "The food just arrived, maybe you heard the doorbell ring," She explained, moving to unwrap the bags. "I did get you a surprise, though: ramen, with the toppings in separate containers for you to add to the broth yourself. I thought they might have an odd texture otherwise, sitting in the soup for too long."

**
It was pin-drop silent on the jet, everyone tangled in their own thoughts after dealing with the recent case. Spencer found himself in the back of the jet, staring out the window, his mind replaying every second of what happened three hours prior.
**
"This isn't who you are," JJ said, her gun aimed at the man.
"You don't who I am!" He shouted.
"You don't have to do this," Spencer reasoned. "Just let your daughter go and we can talk about this."
"We don't have anything to discuss!"
"Put your weapon down and we'll tell the DA that you cooperated with us," He heard Emily speak up from behind him.
Spencer had his gun aimed right between his eyes, their one was only one thing stopping him; the little girl.
The team's profile was spot on, he was a narcissist and he wouldn't go down with a fight.
"I'll admit it," Spencer said.
"Admit what?" The man asked, his grip on his daughter getting tighter as he held the gun to her head.
"That you are a genius," Spencer began.
"Spencer, what are you doing?" JJ said, without taking her eyes off the man.
"You've been killing people for months and no one noticed but as soon as you found out that the FBI knew it pissed you off because you knew that we were onto you. We disturbed your disposal and hunting ground and it upset you."
"You ruined everything!" The man spitted out. “It wasn’t supposed to end like this!” He seethe.
"This isn't who you are," Spencer argued. "You are sick and you need help. I promise if you put the gun down and let your daughter go I will get you the help you need. This doesn't have to end this way. There is a better way," Spencer saw the attitude of the man slightly change as he slowly lowered his gun.
Just then four police officers barged in, guns pointed at the man.
"Police! Put the gun down, now!" They shouted.
"Oh," The gun raised his gun again. "Well played agent!" He shouted. "You almost had me let go."
"PUT THE WEAPON DOWN OR WE WILL SHOOT. PUT IT DOWN!" Spencer heard the officer yell.
"Not if I do it first."
"Nooo wai - "
It was too late.
**
Spencer felt someone shake his shoulder, pulling him away from his heavy thoughts.
"We landed," Hotch said.
Everyone grabbed their belongings, hopped in the SUV's and drove back to BAU. Once they arrived, Garcia greeted them with hugs at the elevators knowing they were very much needed.
The team finished up their paperwork in silence. After two hours, Spencer looked at his phone and saw 2 missed calls from you. Spencer and you had plans to stay home and have a nice dinner but that didn't end up happening. Spencer put his phone down and stared at the small picture on his desk of you and him from a couple of months back.
"I know that look," Spencer looked up to see Rossi standing by his desk.
"Y/N was going to cook a homemade meal and we were going to spend the night watching movies," Spencer replied.
"This is the hardest part of the job Spencer."
"I know," Spencer grabbed his satchel and pushed in his chair. "She's very understanding and never says anything because she knows this is my job. It's just happened too many times."
"Some days are rougher than others," Rossi put a hand on his shoulder. "It's been a long four days." Spencer nods in agreement. "Do you want to talk about what happened?"
Spencer shook his head. He didn't want to talk to anyone, he wanted to go home and be with you.
"I'm fine," Spencer wasn't fine though, he was far from being fine, he felt as though he might drown in his emotions.
"If you say so," They both took the elevator down and before separating ways Rossi stopped him.
"Spencer I know you're lying about being okay," Spencer didn't look up at Rossi as he was pushing back his tears. "You need to talk to someone about it, you understand me?"
Spencer nods.
"Good," Rossi patted his back. "Now go home because you have an amazing woman who is probably still waiting for you. Goodnight Spencer," Rossi said, getting into his car and driving off.
**
You weren't upset at Spencer for being late or not responding to your texts, you knew what you signed up for. At times it could be frustrating because you would call to check-in on Spencer but when you wouldn't get an answer for hours you started to worry.
Tonight was one of those moments, pacing back and forth in the living room dialing Spencer's phone for the hundredth time. When you got no answer you were about to grab your purse when you heard the doorknob turn.
Seconds later Spencer came into your view and he looked exhausted. You watch as he drops his keys and Stachel on the floor beside the coat rack. Spencer looked up and noticed you standing there.
"Thank god yo-" You were cut off by Spencer running to hug you. He crashed into you, causing you to almost lose your balance but you steadied yourself. "Spence, what's wrong?" You asked, wrapping your arms around him. You could tell he was holding his breath. "Breathe, my love," You said. "Come on," You guided him to the couch, where he laid his head on your lap.
"I'm sorry I missed dinner," Spencer said as you moved some of his hair out his eyes.
"It's okay my love, I burnt the lasagna so I ended up warming up leftovers."
"Of course you did."
"Hey," You said playfully hitting his back." You know I'm not the best cook," He let out a small chuckle.
"I'm still sorry that I was late."
"Spence, it's okay. I was just worried when I called you a million times and you didn't answer any of my calls."
"My phone died."
"What happened?" You noticed Spencer close his eyes because you could see his reflection in the tv, which was off. "Was it that bad?" Spencer nodded, as he started to slightly shake. "You have to let it go," You spoke.
Spencer got up from your lap and started to walk away but you pulled at his forearm, halting his steps.
"I don't want you to hear about this case," Spencer whispered.
"This case was hard, I can see that," You said, pushing him to sit down again. "Please don't keep this inside of you. It won't do you any good," You pleaded.
Spencer closed his eyes, his mind taking him back to the house. His ears ringed as he could still hear the gunshot go off, the white wall now covered in blood splatter.
"I couldn't save her."
Spencer sat back and explained everything to you from the second Garcia presented the case to when they delivered the profile to the last second the gunshot went off.
"I told him exactly what he thrives off of. He was even lowering his weapon until the cops barged in and everything went downhill from there," You rubbed small circles on Spencer's hand. "He killed his daughter," Spencer's words sent chills down your back. "She was four years old." Tears began to fall from Spencer's eyes. "Four, Y/N."
Listening to the case broke your own heart but you had to be strong for Spencer.
"I had the aim," Spencer continued. "I could have put a bullet through his head but I also believe that not everything has to end up in us shooting someone. I ju-just thoug-thought I had him."
You stayed silent knowing Spencer wasn't finished.
"I should have just shot him."
"There was no way you could have known he was going to do that," You said lifting Spencer's head.
"I did though," He said, almost angry. "I just didn't shoot because I thought if I outsmar-" You wiped Spencer's tears. "She cried for help, as JJ, Emily and I stood there with our guns pointed at him, she cried for him to let go."
"Spencer you did your job an-"
"If I did my damn job that little girl would have been alive today!" Spencer yelled you were taken back by his tone of voice. Spencer noticed that you slightly flinched at his tone. "I'm sorry," He said. "I just I don-don't know how I will move on from this. We go out there and sa-" Spencer couldn't even finish his sentence without more tears streaming down his face.
"Listen to me," He looked up at you. "Despite seeing the horrors that you do every day, you still manage to save lives. Every case may not be a win in the books but you have to learn to be okay with that. Sometimes you won't win and it'll hurt but you'll be okay," Spencer sniffled. You could tell that Spencer was still holding back on his emotions. "You need to let it out.”
Spencer's head falls in his palms, sobs rack through his body. You wrap your arms around him and he melts into your touch.
You kiss his forehead. "I love you so much."

Pokemon SwSh GPL AU: Get to know ______ P3
It’s time for THE BOYS. My biggest conclusion from putting this together is that while Raihan enjoys pushing everyone else’s buttons, Leon is the only person that can fluster the hell out of him. Please enjoy.
Get to Know: Leon x Raihan (TrueRivalShipping)
1: Who spends almost all their money on the other? Leon. He feels like the type of person whose love language is gift giving (ex. giving Hop Wooloo and Grookey, giving Gloria Scorbunny, Yamper, and Charmander, ect.). That being said, he’s terrible at getting gifts. He can tell exactly what type of Pokemon a person would want and catch it, but presents? He once got Raihan a charmander watch made for kids without even considering it wouldn’t fit him.
2: Who sleeps in the other’s lap? Leon. They’re both tall, but Lee’s the smaller of the two.
3: Who walks around the house half-naked and who yells at them to put on some clothes? Raihan would definitely strut around just to get a reaction out of Leon. Half the time his intentions are to get him into bed, but the other half? Embarrass Leon when he’s on Rotom calls with his mum (don’t worry, he wears pants for those instances).
4: Which one tells the other not to stay up all night and which one stays up all night anyway? They’re both night owls. They stay up either playing video games or watching Netflix (or whatever the pokemon equivalent to that is). They had to invest in a bigger couch due to how often they have passed out on it. (When I say bigger couch, I definitely mean a futon. They just straight up by the closest thing they can to another bed).
5: Which one tries to make food for the other but burns it all by accident and which one tells them that it’s okay and makes them both cookies? Hop inherited their mum’s cooking skills. Since Leon spent most of his young adult life as a champion who never really had time to stay at home and cook a real meal, it is up to Raihan to provide. Lee was permanently designated to cleanup duty after nearly burning the apartment down.
6: Which one reads OTP prompts and says “Oh that’s us!” and which one goes “Eh, not really”? Leon would say,” Oh, that’s us!” and Raihan would say,” Eh, not really?” just to spite him. There is a lot of teasing and playful banter in their relationship.
7: Which one constantly wears the other’s clothes? Raihan, but only because he would literally murder Leon if he borrowed one of his designer sweatshirts. There’s also the added benefit that Lee’s clothes are a lot comfier.
8: Which one spends all day running errands and which one says “You remembered [thing], right?” Leon isn’t allowed to run errands by himself because he’d get lost, so Raihan is usually the grocery-getter. Raihan will be in the checkout line and almost always get a last minute text from Leon asking for one more item. It drives Raihan bonkers.
9: Which one drives the car and which one gives them directions? Leon is the driver, and Raihan is the “direction giver” (let’s be real, he’s more focused on what song they play next than getting them to their destination). If it’s a group road trip, neither of them are allowed in the front because they’ll just end up getting everyone lost.
10: Which one does the posing while the other one draws? Ok, so I don’t really think one of them would draw the other. They’re much more of an “active, sporty couple” than an “artsy couple”. That doesn’t mean it hasn’t happened, though. During one of their dates, they decided to doodle each other on their napkins to help pass the time. They were both terrible and it got really heated when the waitress chose Leon’s drawing as “slightly less worse”.
11: If they were about to rob a museum, which one does backflips through lasers and which one is strolling behind with a bag of chips? Are you kidding? They’d both try to out-do each other. Both backflippers.
12: Which one of your OTP overdoes it on the alcohol and which one makes the other stop drinking? I feel like even though Leon has more body mass than Raihan, he’d be the lightweight of the two. Both have been in the League since they were in their late teens, but Leon’s public image had a lot more specifications than Raihan’s. That meant Raihan got to go to a lot more college parties on his nights off and build up his tolerance. Leon’s public relations manager didn’t let him even look at alcohol until he stepped down as champion. He had to “set a good example for his young fans”. (Sufficed to say, Gloria quickly got a new PR manager when she filled his role).
14: Which one keeps accidentally using the other’s last name instead of their own? Raihan learned that if he used Leon’s last name, he could get special treatment. It’s an abuse of power! Especially when they’re having dinner at the Hoffman house and Raihan casually slips in that he’s planning on taking Lee’s last name once they marry. Leon’s convinced his grandparents like Raihan better than they like him at this point.
15: Which one screams about the spider and which one brings the spider outside? Raihan, though he’ll go to an early grave before admitting that. He just doesn’t want them getting webbing on his new shoes! Yeah...that’s it.
16: Which one gives the other their jacket? Leon. It was mentioned above, but Raihan has to be in a really good mood in order to let Leon borrow his stuff. It isn’t that big of a deal, thankfully: The Hoffman boys are like personal heaters.
17: Who keeps getting threatened by the other’s overprotective older sibling? Ok, ok, ok: Raihan is slightly intimidated by Hop. He just wants the best for his big bro! If that means calling Raihan out of his shit from time to time to keep him in line, so be it. Raihan can’t fight back either, because that’s his boyfriend’s little brother! One of the only things Leon gets testy over is people bullying Hop, so Raihan has to do it when he isn’t around.
18: Who’s the first one to admit they have feelings for the other? Leon. It wasn’t one of those things where they’ve always liked each other, but after being friends for so long, their feelings blossomed into something new. Lee is a big flirt and never officially came out, so Raihan just figured he didn’t mean it whenever he complimented him. Leon literally confessed to Raihan at least five time before it sank in that he was serious.
19: How good would your OTP be at parenting? I think they’d actually be pretty good! Leon helped raise Hop and he definitely has the dad act down, so adopting children would be something he’d be super interested in. Raihan may struggle a little bit at first (especially with where the line of what he could and couldn’t post on social media was), but he has a big heart. They would always be there for their kids. If Gloria and Hop are the cool parents, Leon and Raihan are the embarrassing ones. Would tease their kid lovingly.
20: Which one types with perfect grammar and which one types using numbers as letters? Leon has sent a lot of professional texts because of his former position as champion, so he’d win by default. If they’re texting each other, it is all in numbers, emojis, and abbreviations. Sonia, Piers, and Nessa hate being in group chats with them.
21: Who gets attacked by a bully and who protects them? Lee is the more protective of the two, especially when it comes to people bullying Raihan online. Raihan tries to tell him that he doesn't have to do it, but he’s secretly very flattered.
22: Who makes the bad puns and who makes a pained smile every time the other makes a pun? Leon makes the worst dad jokes in the world. Sometimes he does it just to embarrass Raihan.
23: Who comes home from work to see that the other one bought a puppy? They take turns. Raihan will catch a Hakamo-o to beat Lee’s Aegislash, only for Lee to catch an Azumarill from the Isle of Armor a week later. It’s a never ending game of trying to one up the other.
24: Which one gives the other a piggyback ride when they’re tired? Leon. He’s pretty buff, so carrying Raihan around is nothing. He usually does it without asking if his boyfriend looks tired and flusters the heck out of him.
25: Which one competes in some sort of activity and which one does the overzealous cheering? Ever since Leon left he league, he makes it a priority to go to every one of Raihan’s matches. He often dons ridiculous disguises in order to not get recognised, but he always gets recognised. There is an online forum just made up of pictures of him in different, weird attire. He might’ve even been able to slip by public notice if not for the fact that he tries to make AS MUCH NOISE AS POSSIBLE to cheer his boyfriend on.
26: Who takes a selfie when the other one falls asleep on their shoulder? Is there even a possible different answer than Raihan? The man takes selfies as a living. You better believe he has 8 different folders of pictures of Leon.
27: Which one would give the other a makeover if they asked? Raihan. Leon is so close to having style, but then he’ll throw on his signature snapback and a cape and ruin everything. You know the cape isn’t even a requirement for the champion to wear? Yeah, Lee just chose to wear it. He counts it as a small victory whenever Leon decides to buy something at one of Rai’s favourite stores.
28: Which one owns a pet that the other is absolutely terrified of? Raihan tries not to get between Leon and Charizard. It’s a similar situation to the Hop one: Charizard is Lee’s baby, which means Raihan isn’t allowed to tease them.
29: Which one holds the umbrella over both of them when it rains? Raihan, but he purposely will move the umbrella out from above Leon to get him soaked. It’s payback for all the other stuff he does.
30: If your OTP went on vacation, where would they go and what would they do? Who would take the pictures? Like Gloria and Hop, I think they’d travel to all the regions. They’d have to do it on off seasons and couldn't stay long due to their duties in Galar, but they like seeing the new types of pokemon. Once again, Rai would take millions of pictures. He has a photo album per vacation, not just vacation in general.

do you have any ben/leslie headcanons! i love your posts abt them so much it's great to see someone get as emotional abt them as i am asjdkajhjd
i got this message and i was like "god, i dont really know if i have any headcanons" and then i opened my notes app and started typing and didn't stop for over an hour
i'm literally putting this under a break and organizing it into categories bc it's absurdly long
here it is
A COLLECTION OF BEN AND LESLIE HEADCANONS
PRE-RELATIONSHIP/S3
basically canon but leslie definitely had a crush on a young benji wyatt and followed the story religiously for the first couple months before she started college
ben is only slightly jealous leslie had ann go out with chris to try and get more money for the parks budget rather than leslie asking him out with the same goal. he knows it’s insane, unethical, and illogical but he’s still excited that he gets to spend the night with her on a date plus two other people even if it is to accuse her of bribery.
ann realizes early on that leslie was attracted to ben and teases her mercilessly about it. she thinks it’s absolutely hilarious that leslie wants to make out with "mean ben.” after april and andy’s wedding, she realizes it's more than just attraction and she lays off.
before ben can even think rationally about what he’s doing, he’s in line at bed, bath, and beyond with a crock pot in his arms, calling stephanie to ask her to send him their family’s chicken soup recipe
ann knew ben liked her from the beginning and was totally positive when she ran into him in the hospital asking for leslie’s room number while holding jj’s waffles and a tub of homemade soup.
ben realizes he’s falling in love with leslie when he is at city hall with her until 3am one night trying to budget for the amount of cotton candy machines she wants for the harvest festival. in his exhaustion, he naively believes her when she tells him she’ll go home in a bit so he leaves. he never gets a text from saying she made it home so he stops at jj’s the next morning and brings a takeout container of waffles and a coffee complete with an outlandish amount of whipped cream and sugar to the parks department. he finds her asleep in the conference room. he starts trying to convince sweetums to donate more cotton candy machines that afternoon.
chris had to have known ben liked leslie. he’s not an idiot. in the deleted scene from their wedding, they read out emails from their “tumultuous first week in pawnee” and chris writes to ben saying, “why are you so focused on leslie knope?” ben replies saying, “i’m not. whatever. shut up.” there’s no way chris is this oblivious. ben takes her out for a beer. ben pays out of pocket for a children’s performer to help her out. ben shows up on chris and ann’s date just because he thinks leslie might be there. chris can’t be this dumb. but when they take the city manager jobs in pawnee, he knows it can’t happen so he cuts ben off when he starts to ask about dating someone in city hall. he cracks down on the rule in front of leslie after the tom incident to hammer it in. he starts setting ben up on a bunch of dates to try and head it off. he sends them to indianapolis for the little league pitch because, realistically, he knows they’re the best bet for success but makes sure to interrupt their dinner and invites them to his apartment to continue to run interference the rest of the night. after their fights in 4.06-4.08, he hopes he won’t have to worry anymore. the next work day, they come into his office looking nervous and happy and he knows he’s about to lose the partner and best friend that’s been by his side for the past decade.
april and andy knew they were secretly dating. it went unspoken aside from a few implicit teasing remarks from april and a few suggestive attempted high fives from andy but leslie assured ben they wouldn’t tell anyone despite their ostensible behavior.
BREAK UP
ben had commissioned the li’l sebastian plush for leslie after he had died but the toy shop didn’t finish it until after they broke up. he felt bad not going to pick it up so he did despite not being able to give it to her. he kept it for all those months and sometimes thought about getting rid of it but could never bring himself to do it.
when leslie made personalized copies her books for her friends with individualized annotations and notes in the bylines, she had two copies for ben. there was one that she gave him during their breakup that was very simplified and watered down where the note basically just said “i’m really glad you decided to stay in pawnee.” then there was a second copy that she kept while they were split up that was totally covered in notes and random thoughts she couldn’t say during their time apart. she gives him that copy when they get back together and it may or may not be the best gift he’s ever received.
april was much less abrasive with them during the break up because she’s a sweetheart and wants her friends to be happy.
the first time leslie admitted she was in love with him was during a long night of drinking and crying at ann’s house
ben craved the taste of sugar during their breakup because he got used to tasting the sweetness when he kissed her
ben found himself unable to sleep at night without the sound of leslie talking in her sleep to comfort him
april texted leslie the night of the halloween party to let her know that ben and andy were at the hospital after a fight and everything was fine and she didn’t need to worry. leslie was mad at andy for a few days after and he couldn’t figure out why.
the only photo in ben’s bedroom was of himself, leslie, and li’l sebastian at the harvest festival. if he got caught staring at it and crying, he would just say he missed li’l sebastian so much.
april and andy started having star wars and star trek movie nights to try and cheer ben up
DOMESTIC
ben and leslie got in the habit of having weekly game nights with april and andy during the campaign since they were all basically living together. it became a tradition that kept going as often as they could make it happen, even after the kids were born. they try to have game night at least once a month. april pretends to hate it.
one of my absolute favorite ideas about them is that she sleeps much better when he’s around to keep her grounded. after they get together for good, she starts getting closer to 5 hours of sleep a night.
another favorite involving leslie’s sleeping: ben is typically accustomed to tuning out incoherent nonsense that she babbles in her sleep but she also has some of her best ideas when she’s not busy trying to focus on a million different things. when he hears her coming up with legitimately good ideas or making speeches or having solid debate arguments, he takes out the notebook he keeps in his nightstand to record her thoughts and quotes. he revisits and revises the notes to strengthen her statements and make them more professional and less rambling but makes sure to keep her distinct voice apparent in them.
ben prefers pancakes to waffles but he will go to the grave with that secret
this isn’t a headcanon because nbc posted it but one of ben’s holidays on leslie’s calendar is watch synchronization day which is the day they celebrate syncing their watches to, as leslie puts it, “always be in harmony, like our hearts” which is just one of the sweetest fucking things in the world
leslie makes ben read and watch all the harry potters because he didn’t get into them when he first tried. ben is much more of a success than ann. she buys him a ravenclaw scarf for christmas.
their first fight as a couple was a historical debate gone awry
since ben clearly has some affinity for custom stuffed animals, he has some made for the triplets.
they’re both dog people but they adopt a cat because sonia and stephen beg for one and it does fit their busy lifestyle much better. they love the cat. they get a dog when the kids are older and life is slightly less hectic.
they both love striped shirts and sweaters so much that they have to make a conscious effort to avoid wearing them on the same day and matching
leslie makes sweets and bakes desserts while ben typically handles cooking the actual meals
BASED ON EPISODES, QUOTES, AND THROWAWAY LINES
i always loved the ann/ben dynamic in bus tour because there’s been such an obvious shift in ann’s attitude towards him in this episode. maybe it’s because she and tom just broke up and she just turned chris down again and she’s frustrated with relationships but i think it’s her realizing ben isn’t going anywhere. since the campaign is winding down, she realizes that things aren’t gonna go back to the way they were because ben is now part of this and he’s clearly in it for the long haul. ann’s definitely jealous that ben is just as important to leslie as she is and she now knows she’s never gonna get that full attention back. ann sits ben down to have a real “don’t you dare hurt her” speech after this ep and before win, lose, or draw. this is when he tells ann he wants to marry her.
they discover they both adore the princess bride after ben says “as you wish” to her one night and after that it becomes their movie.
the wildflower mural becomes a thing between them when ben says he considered that to be their first date, prompting leslie to tell him what the mural means to her.
ben puts banjo boogie bonanza on one of the mix cds he gives leslie at the beginning of their relationship
harrison ford movie nights start after they both reveal they had a crush on him as a kid. ben was obsessed with han solo and leslie was into indiana jones’ whole history teacher vibe.
they basically hate each other’s taste in music and stop exchanging mix cds once that becomes apparent that they aren’t gonna find much common ground. they both love tom petty, al green, and etta james and music in that vein though.
ben makes leslie watch game of thrones just to try to explain why he’s called her khaleesi. she gets into it, not so much because of the show itself, but because of how passionate her boyfriend is about it.
they start learning basic french during the s4 campaign because they think it will be useful to have a basic multilingual vocabulary for their political careers and because leslie confesses she has always dreamed of seeing paris. they study spanish next.
ben makes leslie watch the star wars prequels just so he can complain to her during them. he doesn’t think she’s paying attention and then he reads about midichlorians in the paper.
ann is also in on ben’s plan to sneak vegetables into leslie’s waffles.
they will sometimes jokingly refer to themselves as the “dream team” or “dynamic duo” because, despite chris’s absurdity, it’s true
i’m open to literally any origin of this because no matter what it’s perfect but i like to think that “i love you and i like you” started at some point in season 4 when, at some point, leslie went “i like you” and ben replied “you like me?” “mhm” “hm just like me?” “yes i like you. i love you and i like you. both.” “mmm i love you and i like you too”
i barely even register some of these things as headcanons since they just live so solidly in my brain
this might be my favorite ask ever thank you for loving benslie enough to ask me this and be genuinely interested
if anyone read all of this, i love you

PLS PLS LIST THE SWAPS!! TELL ME ABOUT THE SIBLINGS AND ALSO HIFUMI BECAUSE I LOVE HIM (IF YOU WANT!) I will also send more questions in the morning too, excited to see what you’ve been working on!!
OK OK OK !!!!! AHH! So, before assigning talents, I swapped the pools, so for the first game, I use the talents from the second game, and vis versa! For some i listed gender, sexuality, or neurodivergencies, though this isn’t all of them, and I haven’t developed them all to the same level!
This is SO long. I didn’t even bother mentioning things like my plans for the killing games. (I have DR1 planned out in full, but only parts of DR2 and the v3 anime)
THANK YOU FOR THE ASK MY HEART SKIPPED A BEAT IN HAPPINESS WHEN I SAW I HAD NEW ASK NOTIFS!!
LIST:
Trigger Happy Havoc (first game)
Kyoko Kirigiri- Ultimate Luckster- Mastermind (: Sometimes lesbians can be evil okay! was trained as a detective like everyone in her family and didn’t get the ultimate :) she’s definitely not mad about that :) her luck cycle depends on how far she plans things ahead. her good luck is when she’s spontaneous! She hates when ‘normal’ people are accepted by ultimates.
Makoto Naegi- Photographer (Mostly wildlife and nature photography, with Sayaka helping him for some animal photography (: trans and bi <3 One of sayaka’s birds nests in his hair like all the time)
Kiyotaka Ishimaru- Ultimate Swordsman (AUTISTIC ICON, has trained in kendo since he was a kid, then was essentially given away to the Fujisaki clan by his very stressed dad. Semiverbal, rarely speaks.)
Chihiro Fujisaki- Ultimate Yakuza (Taka is her bodyguard! His family is in debt to hers, the Fujisaki clan is the most powerful in Japan. trans icon, of course, dates Sayaka! Very direct, though she’s far more delicate and polite when talking to taka, her best friend)
Sakura Oogami- Ultimate Nurse (Works as an EMT- her clan still is in martial arts, so she’s still very buff, she assists in injuries at the family dojo. Autistic Icon)
Asahina Aoi- Ultimate Gamer (ULTIMATE ADHD. streams and has a ton of fun, will ramble while breaking records, demigirl who loves her girlfriend sakura :)
Mukuro Ikusaba- Ultimate Chef (Works best with ‘cheap’ food, and making them taste good. a byproduct of growing up on the streets with junko, and junko being bored of the same old food they dug out of the trash. now works closely with junko for her teams’ nutritional needs! autistic and sapphic.)
Junko Enoshima- Ultimate Team Manager (there are SO many sports she can never get bored, and the professional scene is always changing! prefers coaching womens’ teams, because being an ultimate brings them more publicity and usually higher pay :)
Mondo Oowada- Ultimate Prince (OH MY BOY. trans adhd icon. now the crown prince of Novoselic, with a reagent in his place until he comes of age. His service dog Chuck is a maltese and an absolute sweetheart. Chihiro takes him under her wing to teach leadership. also dates taka later OF COURSE, though they’re poly and I may add more ppl to their relationship later.)
Celestia Ludenburg- Ultimate Musician (specializes in violin, most strings, though she can play any instrument. grew up poor, dedicated herself to an instrument and persona to cope)
Byakuya Togami- Ultimate Musician (Yep. two musicians. two catty trans gay icons about to throw down. they HATE each other and grew up as rivals. specialize in classical, they literally tore a professional orchestra full of grown adults apart trying to make them side with who was the best musician. they’re so good that they’re matched, and Hope’s Peak accepts them as one student and combined ultimate. they room together. they fight. Literally if one of them gets expelled, the other does too, so they’re STUCK. eventually they become literally inseparable and insufferable together like the WORST siblings. I love them.)
Sayaka Maizono- Breeder (animal handler) (Specializes in birds!!!!!! has songbirds on her shoulders all the time. will give unsettling animal facts without realizing they’re unsettling. sends her songbirds to serenade chihiro when they start dating <3)
Yasuhiro Hagakure- Gymnast (you see this tall goof who acts like an older brother to everyone and wonder HOW he’s a gymnast. he’s completely different in competitions, though still lighthearted. becomes a big brother figure to mukuro and junko especially <3 also trans bc i say so.)
Leon Kuwata- Traditional Dancer (he just. kinda hates it. it takes SO much work and effort but he takes to it naturally. his cousin kanon is NOT like in canon, instead she’s helpful. he’d literally rather be doing anything else. doesn’t know how to do anything like... basic either. can’t cook. cant do his own laundry. everything was dedicated to traditional japanese dancing before he attended HPA.)
Toko Fukawa- Engineer (writes schematics and is very good at it. gets VERY upset when her plans go wrong. her notes are orderly and perfect. host for their system!)
Syo- Mechanic (a factive of genocider syo, NOT an actual killer. she’s a protector mainly, and also is more adept at hands on skills when it comes to fixing things, her hands are less shaky. Her notes are a disaster and she does it to spite Toko.)
Hifumi Yamada- (???) (reserve course) Protagonist! My BOY. HIFUMI IS GOOD OKAY. He’s autistic and loves anime and gaming! he’s not particularly ultimate-leveled at them, or anything else! Attending Hope’s Peak as a reserve course student! At one point he joins the student council as a reserve course representative even if he’s only a freshman :) He’s also a moderator in Hina’s livestream chat, under the username of JusticeHammer, fastest ban hammer this side of the internet. He's internet friends with hina and sakura, and doesn’t realize Oh We Go To the same SCHOOL until he bumps into them. and realizes hina doesnt know what he looks like. but sakura does. its hilarious. he’s aroace, and during the year they’re locked in HPA, is in a queer platonic partnership with Hina and Sakura, while they’re dating each other. it’s great.)
Goodbye Despair! (second game)
Peko Pekoyama- Lucky student (ohohoh. her luck relies on her conviction. if she has doubts her bad luck strikes HARD. trans!, was taken in by Fuyuhiko’s family when she was a baby, grew up as just another kid in the family. They all expected Fuyu to go off to HPA on his own and then BOOM acceptance letter)
Fuyuhiko Kuzuryu- Programmer (He. gets so angry while coding. He has an array of rubber ducks to talk to and work through his coding issues with. trans of course. Very protective of Peko when people say she doesn’t have a ‘real’ ultimate. ADHD and Autistic)
Sonia Nevermind- Writer (Literary Girl) (Her family immigrated to Japan when she was young! She writes a lot of serial killer novels, murder mysteries and horror and all that! Trans and bi :)
Gundham Tanaka- Detective (YEAH my guy is a detective. still talks Like That. Trans and bi and he and Sonia were kinda-dating (t4t autistic power couple in the making) when things started happening. He spends some time with his cool older sister who he looks up to a LOT. He and Sonia talk through things together a lot, they both have those red string walls, one for murder cases, another for a fictional plot lmao.)
Mahiru Koizumi- Moral Compass (my GIRL. autistic. Her morals rely a lot on people taking responsibility and being reliable, and she ends up having to work through some biases she didn’t realize she had when she arrived at HPA. Is still protective of Hiyoko, though that protectiveness is spread a bit thinner to extend to the rest of the class.)
Hiyoko Saionji- Clairvoyant!!! (HI YES I COULD TALK ABOUT HER FOR DAYS. Has actual visions in dreams and when she suddenly faints, but doesn’t really realize they’re uhh Real Visions for a WHILE. uses her status as an ultimate clairvoyant to trick and bully kids when in school for a LONG time, though her homelife wasn’t great with her grandmother trying to find ways to make her visions more consistent. SHES ALSO 12 WHEN SHE JOINS THE 77TH CLASS. she’s just so advanced in academics and her ultimate is so interesting hope’s peak cant HELP but scout her early. she has SO many issues guys no one appreciates hiyoko enough, autistic gifted kid hiyoko my beloved.)
Akane Owari- Gambler (started gambling to help out her family and Got Good at it. is very very conscious of money and food like all the time. Runs the hope’s peak betting pools once she arrives. these ultimates bet on a lot of things. she ALWAYS wins. until she doesnt!!!)
Mikan Tsumiki- Martial Artist (ohhhh Mikan. Still anxious and clumsy (though not like THAT in canon) and literally no one looks at her and thinks Oh The ULTIMATE martial artist?? it isn’t until you see her in the ring that you understand. She started learning self defense as a kid because her (bad) parents essentially said she had to rely on and protect herself and no one else would help.)
Kazuichi Souda- Pop Idol (OH TRANS ICON? he’s nervous and paranoid about Everything still, though now it’s like. oh the entire world is always watching my every move this is Okay (: has the brightest neon album eras. he literally keeps up a like. weird chad persona when interacting with people because he’s masking how hard he’s constantly just internally screaming.)
Nagito Komaeda- Soldier (AHAHAH my mans got issues problems disorder he’s a messssss, this trans guy, this absolute gay. this boy leveled a city of thousands of people with his own hands and some bombs. Still has medical issues, but most of his like. treatments and medicine is hold hostage as long as he stays in line. believes the ends justify the means and anyone who dies to him is obviously weak, because look at him! he’s weak, but that doesn’t matter because he doesn’t have to be the strongest, he just has to be stronger than the weakest scum.)
Chiaki Nanami- Heir (OOF. Agender, uses any pronouns. Doesn’t really. enjoy being the heir. grew up with Byakuya in the same circles. she treats the economy and stock market and stuff like games. enjoys gaming but isn’t good at them. collects so many things. has halls full of collections. Her parents stopped controlling her once she was able to prove she had more money than them and could literally bankrupt them if she wanted.)
Hajime Hinata- Baseball Star (Chiaki’s best friend, his family was upper middle class until he hit it BIG as a baseball star. wants to do BIG things and wants to attend hope’s peak more than anything!! Doesn’t really think of baseball as his THING, just a means to an end! trans :)
Teruteru Hanamura- Biker Gang Leader (started with shaking down some jerks who didn’t pay their food and drink tabs at his mama’s restaurant. now he RUNS their tiny town. His siblings are essentially gang mascots, he works hard to keep them out of trouble (while bringing them to like. meetings where he ends up beating a dude almost to death. its fine). most of what he does it to get more money to keep the restaurant afloat and care for his mama with her health conditions.)
Nekomaru Nidai- Fashionista (the drama. the CHAOS. most people are like ohhh we can never understand this artistic genius when he’s literally just. vibing and has ADHD and a love for coffee. Works a lot on accessible clothing lines for disabled people! Also he and Kazuichi work together sometimes, Nekomaru is good at calming Kaz down and seeing like, the root of whatever problem and making it better. ALSO A TRANS ICON and just flaunts it.)
Imposter- In the hope’s peak days they are impersonating Ryota Mitarai, as a part of the 77th class. In the Killing Game they impersonate Mondo Oowada as the Ultimate Prince. They’re doin’ their best.
Ibuki Mioda- (???) (Izuru Kamakura) Protagonist! Gundham Tanaka’s older sister (though they’re in the same school year). Nonbinary and using just. an array of pronouns alongside she/her, and jokingly fights with gundham for neopronouns like MOM said it’s MY TURN on the rawrself pronouns. She attends the reserve course to stay at her brother’s side. She dresses loudly and acts even louder because !!! she wants to stand out!! in the middle of this drab reserve course hell!!  but when things go down, she wants to be someone, to be worthy of being her amazing brother’s big sister. so she accepts some offers.
NON-KILLING GAME:
Ryota Mitarai- Ultimate Analyst (stays in his room. He’s terrified of the outside world but fascinated by it. watches hope’s peak academy through security feeds, picking up on little details. he just wants to understand things but never looks at the big picture.)
Chisa Yukizome- Ultimate Boxer (Homeroom teacher!! She’s working really hard and believes in everyone! Some are intimidated by talent, but she’s never hurt anyone outside of the ring! Dating Kyosuke)
Juzo Sakakura- Ultimate Student Council President (Has anger issues, though his work at reigning them in assisted in becoming an Ultimate. Was responsible for security and the Hope’s Peak student council. Dating Kyosuke)
Kyosuke Munakata- Ultimate Housekeeper (Meticulous, works himself to the BONE even if he’s good enough to not have to do that. Is working on establishing another Hope’s Peak! Dating Chisa and Jozu!!!)
Seiko Kimura- Ultimate Blacksmith (GIVE MY GIRL KNIVES!! She’s an anxious gal, always wearing a facemask that filters the air in her forge because she has some respiratory problems. she prefers making more decorative pieces like an artist, but sometimes can create utilitarian pieces or tools to fit specific needs. Still a doormat)
Ruruka Ando- Ultimate Pharmacist (She constantly asks Seiko for new tools for her developments in medicine, saying its all for the advancement of humanity, so Seiko denying any request is SELFISH, though she never thinks to make anything for seiko’s health issues. Dating Izayoi. Specializes in medicine for mental health. Not Doing Great :)
Sonosuke Izayoi- Ultimate Confectioner (He loves sweets. LOVES them. Creates things that look plain, ordinary. but taste so GOOD you CRY and maybe ascend for a little bit. sometimes Ando makes cool new drugs to put in the sweets, who knows! It’s a mystery! He always has like. a huge refrigerated case of fresh cakes, and constantly has a lollipop in his own specialty recipe in his mouth.)

Tumblr media
Hiyoko Saionji
Hugs you like a pillow all the time.
Too often, literally cannot separate from you sometimes.
If you have a sugar tooth, the two of you will debate your favorite candies together.
She gets heated in the argument.
Eventually, you’ll just agree to disagree, which doesn’t satisfy her too much.
Forces you to try to eat all her favorites foods. Will cry if you don’t.
Will cry if you don’t.
Also forces you to come to all of her dances. Not that you mind about that though, as you would have went anyways.
But the idea of you caring for her enough to go on your own free will scares her.
You don’t get made fun of often, because being apart of the class means being a friend to everyone, but Teruteru is the one to always make flirting comments because of your weight.
Hiyoko bops him on the head each time, scolding him to death.
Sometimes, when she thinks you’re sleeping at night, she’ll cry sympathetic tears for you.
“I’m sorry I can’t stop him,” she whispers, holding you tight.
Sonia Nevermind
Ironically her pet-name for you is princess.
She’s very cautious about things that can offend you, if anything.
Has a killer death stare when people say insensitive things.
Her favorite thing is having you too match clothes, and she has her own tailor to make you both clothes.
May or may not convince you to wear gothic clothes.
You have to deal with her rants about serial killers, too.
Sometimes she’ll wake you up in the middle of the night like, “I still don’t understand how he got away with it for so long.”
Dangerously in love with you. She’ll surprise you with kisses all the time.
“Surprise smooch!” She calls out, jumping on your back and making you fall over.
Kisses you softly. She’s never aggressive about it.
For showing off in public, her only issue is if you can learn the dozen of mandatory languages in such short time.
Since you need to be on her intelligence level to be with her, of course!
Almost forgets that you think you’re different from everyone else.
But you’re not! And no one in her kingdom really cares about the way you look, just the way you hold yourself and your devotion to making her happy.
Akane Owari
Worships you in every way.
Holds onto you while she tells you how much she loves you.
Will definitely die for you in every sense of the phrase.
Takes cooking classes with you! She was definitely a mother figure with her siblings, and so cooking with her is the moment you can see her settle down and be stern.
She gets serious about food.
But she’ll eat whatever you make, even if it isn’t too good.
Defends your honor against people who laugh at you!
And in turn you get to bandage her wounds.
Especially when she butts heads with Nidai.
Which happens a lot.
She’s a hard person to try and wrestle down to give her kisses. She will literally just try and make you chase her.
“Come on! I know you can do it!” She laughs as she literally climbs a building.
Peko Pekoyama
A little nervous about Kuzuryuu finding out she is together with a girl.
But he knows her better than anyone, so she knows that he already knows.
Especially when he gets you gifts, specifically giving Peko the gifts to give to you.
Like a treaty.
When you both finally meet he pretends like he has never done such a thing.
Peko tries to keep you away from him, though. It’s a dangerous world and she doesn’t want you to be involved in it.
You don’t see her all the often either. But when you do, it’s when she sneaks into your house.
You’ll go downstairs to her reading silently on your couch.
You’ve literally just gotten used to it.
She steals some of your clothes, too, since they are more comfortable than anything she owns.
And in summer time, that’s her opportunity to take all of your long sleeves when you won’t wear them.
Since your clothes are bigger than hers, too, she usually wears them as pajamas. But if her duty is to blend in, then she will 100% wear your clothes.
Mahiru Koizumi
Makes you model for her all the time.
It’s a bit embarrassing for you, since you don’t consider yourself the most qualified.
But she wouldn’t photograph anyone else.
She’s definitely someone who will try and get any immature male to leave your sight!
Especially Kazuichi for some reason.
When she asked you out, you thought it was a joke at first!
Something that embarrasses you is how she brags about dating you.
She’s no ashamed of who she is, or who you are.
Has a thing for giving gifts wrapped up. She would die to reason something with a ribbon on top.
So you’ll give her little lip glosses and bracelets, putting them in a small box and covering them in glitter for her.
It’s in inner joke between you two for you to get down on one knee when you give her these trinkets.
Because you know if it was an actual proposal the box wouldn’t have Sanrio stickers all over it.
Ibuki Mioda
She’s a very sweet person, very sensitive to your emotions, which you didn’t expect when you asked her out.
She also calls you bubblegum all the time!
And cares about your opinion on anything.
Even though she cares a lot, she has absolutely no idea what to say when you are down.
Likes your body a lot ^ it’s easy to huge.
If you ever say something negative about yourself she’ll just stand there like |
“What are you talking about? I don’t get it?”
Anyways luv she is your number one hype man.
And you hype her up all the time in return, though no matter how much you do, it never feels like enough.
Mikan Tsumiki
She’s a kissy, smoochy, huggy, cuddly person.
Wants to hold your hand every second of the day.
And it’s fun dating a nurse because she always knows what to do.
“You need more sleep, and maybe less stress!”
Even though she knows it’s bad for both of you, she likes hanging out with you in the morning, drinking her coffee, and eating sweets for breakfast.
Her favorite type of date is one where the two of you watch horror movies together!
Comforting you if you get jump scared, no matter how small, makes her feel better about herself.
She prefers old horror movies over newer ones. Some are so cryptid you haven't even heard of them.
Forces you to watch them sometimes.
She just loves experiencing horror movies with you.
Chiaki Nanami
One of the first times you saw her giggle was when she saw how nervous you got when you asked her out.
Your hands were shaking so she held them to calm you down.
She’s always been the calm one. A good listener, too!
Sleeps on your shoulder almost every day. Even in public. It’s hard to wake her up.
You get to listen to her talk about games for hours.
If you’re ever insecure, she’ll share with you her favorite character designs of characters that are shaped like you.
She can sense whenever you get uncomfortable in front of other people, too.
Somehow she developed that sense. Like a psychic.
And if you’re standing next to her during that situation, she’ll walk in front of you and just continue walking. The sign is to follow her and dip.
An easy way to get out of that situation.
Will not tolerate you talking bad about yourself, no matter if it’s passive-aggressive or not.

DR2 cast with an S/O with sleep paralysis part 2
More of the S/O with sleep paralysis series
Part 1
Tumblr media
Sonia Nevermind
•When she found out she was even more in love
•Could you be more perfect?
•She has always been very interested in the sleep paralysis topic
•She is so interested in that kind of things
•You know dark themes and scary things
•She knows a lot about it
•She knows TOO much about it
•She has spent hours watching youtube videos about sleep paralysis
•And is really super interested
•She bury you on questions
•So you tell her all your experiences before
•And she is amazed
•Wow how can you be so amazing?
•She is sure that those thing you see on your paralysis are dark spirits who want to contact you
•And she is super excited at how friendly they are to you
•You really are something especial
•And you are sharing this with her, she is so happy!
•You try to explain her that those aren't real spirits but scary things your subconscient created
•But she doesn't listen, she wants to think those are spirits
•And you are so in touch with them! She loves it!
Gundham Tanaka
•Oh my godness you are for real his queen/king of darkness!
•You are so attracted to darkness that it haunts you on your sleeping
•You try to explain to him that that isn't how it work
•But he is sure it is
•Don't worry, if you don't like them he will keep you safe with his power
•He will keep all of your paralysis away
•Even if he does think it is amazing and keeps you on touch with the spirits
•If you dont want it then he will protect you
•He uses his powers in a ritual
•"Do not worry my dear, no spirit will haunt you on your sleep from now on"
•You are a little sceptical at first
•Not because you don't believe in your boyfriend's powers
•Is beacuse your sleep problems have nothing related to spirits
•Right?
•Well, maybe there is something because you do stop having them
•Maybe it is because he is always sleeping with you
•And sleeping with people helps to stop paralysis
•Yeah, sure it is the reason
•Or maybe it is really because of his powers...
•The point is that you finally get to sleep tigly thanks to your powerful and lovely boyfriend!
Hiyoko Saijonji
•You two usually sleep together
•Because she needs some help tying her kimono, cooking her dinner, bathing alone... you know how she is
•"Well, as a reward for being my very best servant you can sleep with me!"
•You two are dating, Hiyoko, S/O is not a servant
•But well, you kniw it is actually something cue what she is asking you to do
•Your sleep paralysis hadn't attacked you in so long
•Since you two started to share a bed
•But now you were abe to see the whole bedroom
•And you couldn't move
•A lot of shadows with bright eyes looked at you
•And Hiyoko's face was... different
•Like if she came up from the worst of the nightmares
•So when you woke up you couldn't look at her
•It made you shiver
•And she noticed sommethung was wrong
•And started to cry
•You wished it was one of her fake cryings, but it wasn't
•It was more real than ever
•"I was lying! You are not a servant! You are my S/O! Please look at me!"
•Aww Hiyoko does really love you, right?
•"S-Stop crying please, it's not that I don't love you anymore, I love you, stop!"
•"Then what it is?" Her face changed easily from a sad expression to an interested one but you could tell the tears were real, they were still in her eyes
•"I had an sleep paralysis, like a nightmare but much worse, and you were next to me with a terrifying face"
•"Are you calling me ugly?! Cause the ugliest here it's you y'know?!" And now the defensive bully Hiyoko
•"I'm not! I'm just a little scared still bit it will pass!"
•"Well, then let's go back to sleep. And hug me, servant!"
•Didn't she just said that you weren't her servant and she loved you...?
•Well, it's better to ignore her sometimes, at least you have received a beautiful confession from her
•Maybe that sleep paralysis was worth it
Mahiru Koizumi
•You couldn't sleep because last night you had a horrible paralysis and were a little afraid
•And she went all mom mode
•Claiming that you needed to sleep
•So you explained to her what happened and why you were so scared
•She assured you that the thing you were seeing weren't real
•And you knew it, is just that you didn't want to see them again, you didn't want to have another sleep paralysis
•But she wasn't going to accept, you needed to sleep
•So she spend all night hugging you and cuddling with you so you won't be scared
•And when you woke up from a paralysis she tried to comfort you until you were sleeping again
•She barely slept that night
•And the next night, just to make sure, she wanted to put some cameras and film
•If those monster weren't your imagination and were real then the camera would film them
•As expected, the camera didn't film anything
•And the next day you slept a lot better knowing that it, for sure wasn't real
•Well, for that and because your girlfriend was hugging you non stop all night
Nekomaru Nidai
Akane Owari
•You woke up screaming for you sleep paralysis
•And then she was in full fight mode
•You had seen that part of her before
•Long nails, scary face, ready to attack like an animal...
•"What it is? Who can I fight with, S/O?!"
•"No... no one, really, I just... had a bad dream"
•Once she calms down you actually explain her what you experienced, it was not a bad dream but it was similar
•"Oh, and you wanna go back to sleep?"
•"Well... I feel a little... scared right now"
•"Then, let's go get something to eat!"
•Eat? At 3 am?
•"Babe, you want some icecream?"
•You are already in the kitchen
•Well, eating at 3 am may be weird but is there anything better than a good icecream after something bad has happened?
•You two spend the night talking, laughing and sharing g some icecream until you just fall sleep happily
•Definetly, when you remember this night you don't even know what you saw on your paralysis, you can only remember you girlfriend's cute smile while eating icecream on your couch
•Okay, if you can't sleep then you should work out!
•How exactly does that work?
•"Look! You can't sleep because you are not tired enough! You gotta work out S/O!"
•You two have long training seasons now
•"And you gotta sleep with passion! If you don't put passion on it you can't do it well!"
•Ummm....
•"COME ON! LET'S GO TO SLEEP!"
•Maybe it's because even your sleep paralysis is a little afraid of him and his screams
•Or maybe his passion technique works
•Or because you are very tired of the work out session
•But the point is that you sleep like a little baby
Byakuya Twogami (impostor)
•He doesn't sleep very well either
•There no real reason to it, he just doesn't have the best sleep
•He wakes up easily and has a hard time falling sleep
•When he can actually sleep
•So he is awake almost every time you have a paralysis
•And he is more than ready to calm you down and cuddle with you
•He is pretty warm so it's easy to forget about anything scary you have seen and fall asleep with him
Teruteru Hananura
• "What if we try to... get you tired?"
•You know what he is hitting on
•And you can try of you want of course but if you don't there's no real need to
•I mean, he is mainly joking
•Altough he wouldnt mind getting some extra love
•But whether you do it or not it won't work
•Your sleep paralysis aren't caused because of your energy
•You are very tired usually because of those sleep paralysis
•And once he realizes that's not the problem he researches for some help
•And discovers that the most important hours are the 4 before going to sleep
•You need to be relaxed and have a timetable
•So, after making a healthy and lightweight dinner, he will try to always go to sleep with you at the same hour
•And take are of you when you wake up if you are scared
•Probably joking or flirting but he is trying his best
Well, since Koizumi this post really went 📉📉 I'm so so sorry but I tried, I'm actually kinda proud of Sonia, Gundham and Hiyoko so please try to enjoy them~

Sonia x SHSL Baker Reader: To Bake A Cake
So happily, and excitedly you raced around, a bright beaming smile on your face that nothing could take away. “Ah, Teru! Did you-” You cut yourself off seeing he had indeed gotten the eggs. “Wow, you’re a lot faster than I thought.” “Y/N, I know this place like the back of my own hand. I know where everything is!” Though tempted to make a lude joke he couldn’t bring himself to do so, not wanting to accidently sour your mood. Placing the carton in the basket you perused the wall filled to bursting with of bags of flour, needing to find the right one.
“I must ask though, will there be anything special to go along with this cake? A confession perhaps?” He lightly nudged your ribcage with his elbow wanting to make sure you had caught his words and they had not fallen on deaf ears with you daydreaming. A light blush dusted your cheeks as you playfully slapped his arm away. “I could have just asked you to help me get ingredients, what in the world made me think it was a good idea to tell you it was for my crush?” “Y/N, that hurts!” Placing a hand over his heart he took a step back, smiling. “I thought we were best friends!?” Then he smirked. “There’d be no point in hiding it anyway. Miss Princess Nevermind’s birthday is coming up. Of course it’d be for her… And you’re awful at hiding your feelings. You always blush when talking to her, you’ll sigh dreamily when just looking at her, you always go out of your way to help her. Honey, you’re like a less energetic Soda.” “I-it’s that obvious!?” You sighed, lightly rubbing your cheeks with your hands, hoping to somehow remove the ever-growing heat. “Okay, enough of this nonsense, we still need to get more items. I always want the absolute best, but I need the absolute best of the best for Nevermind!” You quickly picked up your pace heading down the aisle.
“… You never answered my question though.” You fell silent, pondering over the question. “…The week after. Her birthday is about her, I shouldn’t shift the attention to my feelings.” “Oh? But won’t you chicken out? Come now, just tell her!” “No, I will tell her!” “But, I think she’d really like it if you told her on her birthday. Your gift could be yourself!” Seeing his nose bleed, you sprinted away not wanting to hear his lude ramblings of you ‘gifting’ yourself to your crush. “Wait, hold on! Don’t run! I’m serious about this! You know how my mind wanders, but my point still stands!” You slowed your pace, letting him catch up. “I think she has a crush on you too!” “… I… well… we’ll see if she does when I confess.” He took hold the sleeve of your shirt, not wanting you to get away again. “Hear me out. She spends most of her free time with you or Tanaka, she’ll go out of her way to speak with you, she tutors you even when you’re not falling behind in any subject she makes up things to tutor you in like foreign languages or economics or medicine even law, she shares her meal with you at lunch, she’s taken you out of school to hang out more times than I can count, I’ve seen how lovingly she holds your hand when leading you to places. She likes you too, confess on her birthday and she’ll be over the moon!” “Whoever said you can’t do that with friends.” “No one, but, she doesn’t do any of this with anyone else! You are special to her! Confess! I guarantee it’ll work out!” “… well, confessing then does seem romantic. But it might just not ‘work out’ again.”
Truthfully you had actually tried confessing to Sonia before, but it never worked out. You’d always get caught up in other things mostly due to your lack of time management. The only time you could keep time was when baking. You tried bringing it up in every day conversation but it seemed some dilemma broke out between your classmates and like the amazing, dutiful princesses she was, Sonia would leap into the chaos trying to take control of it all alongside your class president Chiaki and honorary classmate Hajime Hinata. The closest you had come to confessing to Sonia was when you had baked a Baumkuchen and placed it alongside a note in a box. A note confessing your feelings, of how you had tried telling her before but it never worked out, how she didn’t have to like you back you just wanted her to know since you had been trying to for so long. You wanted to tell her before she left for a short trip back home but due to poor timing on your part you missed her, you tried mailing your gift but she got back before the pastry could get to her. You thought about attempting a similar plan again, but your timing would just get in the away again knowing how bad it was.
Maybe you could get it out this time? When you give her the cake you were determined to tell her! Surely there would be minimal chaos for Sonia’s birthday, and surely, she’d show up to class, so it just had to work out! With a renewed sense of perseverance, you marched onto campus, bags of ingredients in hand to your lab, a kitchen perfect for baking anything and everything you could ever want. You would do this! “Ah, Y/N! Excuse me, Tanaka!” From the corner of your eye you spotted Sonia trotting towards you, leaving behind Gundham and Kazuichi who she seemed to not even acknowledge. Immediately the two started bickering, Kazuichi asserting Gundham scared Sonia off while Gundham… was being Gundham and coated his words in such flowery language you had not an idea of what he was saying. “Hey Nevermind!” “You’re back! I assume you’ll be doing some baking.” “Yeah! I’m going to make some Baumkuchen for your birthday tomorrow! It’s German but really popular here in Japan so I thought you’d like it.” “Like it? I love it!” Seeing the stars in her eyes, you felt as if your heart was gently melting chocolate, so warm and sweet. “May I watch? I’d like to know why there’s a hole in the middle!” “Why don’t you bake with me then? It’ll be fun!” “Certainly! Let’s be on our way then!” She took one of the bags and held your now free hand in her own as she led you your bakery.
“Alright! First to measure the ingredients!” You felt so giddy seeing Sonia place an apron on, this was the first time you’d be baking together! “First we’ll start with the eggs!” You showed Sonia step by step how to separate the egg whites from the yoke using only the shells. You knew she knew nothing given how she’d ask you so much about your craft. It was then you recalled one of your past conversations, how she exclaimed how she never cooked or baked given her servants always did that, and how she now taken interest because of you. That was one of the many things you so admired about her. How she had an insatiable appetite for learning, not only for her people but for herself as well. You tried holding back a giggle, hearing her squeak, accidently breaking the egg. “Here, like this.” You stood behind her, placing your hands atop her own, taking her through the motions, pointing out how much pressure you applied to the egg. You set about measuring other ingredients, showing her how to use the measuring cups and the like.
In several mixing bowls you separated most of the ingredients into each and turned on the mixers. “And now while it’s mixing we’ll add the yoke and sugar mixture to the butter mixture slowly. Then when all this is done mixing we’ll add the egg whites. We do this part by hand because the mixer even on the slowest speed can’t mix it properly. I’ll be using a technique called folding. It’s where you use the spatula or spoon or whatever and-” Sonia so tenderly smiled as you explained, even showing her the technique. You always got so excited when speaking of baking and you were so confident! She dreamily sighed and nodded showing she was still paying attention. “- that way we lose some of the volume so we can get those thin layers Baumkuchen is so famous for!” “Baking truly is a science, it’s no wonder you pick up so quickly! I’m impressed!” “Huh?” You confusedly looked to her as you removed the kettles from the machines. “You’re so smart, baking truly is a science in of itself! When I tutor you, you always learn so quickly, now I know why!” “A-ah, well… thank you.” She smiled even brighter seeing how your ever-present blush darkened and how you became a little sheepish while still being so confident in what you were doing.
“Now for this part, I’ll need your help. See the paper we placed the ground up almonds and flour on? I need you to slowly pour that in while I mix.” “Yes! Most certainly!” “I appreciate the enthusiasm, but remember, very slowly.” Suddenly in the next moment, your vision was clouded, and you couldn’t see. “Ah! I’m so sorry!” “You alright?” You waved at the air with one hand, the other holding up your shirt to cover your face. The white soon settled and your found both of you absolutely covered in powder. “I am, but not the almonds and flour…” She seemed upset, but still smiled so naturally. “It’s alright.” You patted yourself down trying to get some of the powder off. “That’s why I always have extra ingredients, we’ll just have to measure more. Besides…” Taking her hand, you lead her to the ingredients. “Now I know you’ll make for a great assistant when making cinnamon rolls!” “Cinnamon rolls?” “Yeah! Another technique in baking is flouring. You dust flour on the rolling pin, so the dough doesn’t stick to it. You’ll be an ace baker!” She simply stared at you for a moment before that beautiful laughter bubbled up. Her eyes were closed, and she held up one of her hands, partly covering her mouth. She just… looked so gorgeous. Neither of you noticed how you had stopped walking. Your kindness was certainly one of your best traits. You could get upset when needed but you were always so cool headed and patient. Even if you weren’t sure how, you’d try fixing situations, like trying to cheer up a person feeling down. She knew she messed up, but seeing you try to make the best of this was simply astonishing and adorable.
“Now that you poured in the almond and flour mixture, want to try folding and mixing?” “Yes! And I won’t mess up this time! I’ve studied how you do it and I think I know how.” You took a step back and let her. And there was something else you love so much. Her tenacity and determination. No matter how many times she was knocked down, Sonia always got back up and she was better than ever, always willing to tackle any situation. Though, you couldn’t help your chuckle that seeped out. “Harder than it looks, huh.” “Y-yes. It very much is.” Placing one hand on the heavy bowl, you placed the other on one of her hands and helped her mix. “You do this so effortlessly with only one hand!? Is that why you’re so toned!?” “Toned? I well-” You didn’t get the chance to finish, being cut off, surprised by Sonia pointing at your arm. “You are very toned, Y/N. Strong. I bet you could stand a chance in a fight with Owari and Nidai!” “This is just my arms not-” Sonia held up an open palm to you, immediately silencing you. “I shall not allow you to deny your own strength. Those bags of flour, pick them up!” Though bewildered, you did as told. You held one bag atop each of your shoulders. “How heavy are those? “… F-fifty pounds each? Okay! Look, I, Look, you get strong baking, but I doubt I could stand in a fight between those two!” The thought of even getting near one of their skirmishes sent chills down your spine. “Please don’t tell them or anyone else! I know if they find out they’ll want to test me, and I just want to bake, not train.” Sonia simply pat you on the head as you placed the bag back down. “My point still stands, you are strong. And I promise not to tell anyone.” “Thank you!” You dropped to your knees letting go of the breath you didn’t even realize you were holding. “You really scared me for a moment there, Nevermind.” “You need not worry Y/N. You shall always be safe with me!” She placed a hand on your cheek, her thumb gently caressing you. “… BAKING! We-we were baking, RIGHT!” You covered both your hands over your face you swiftly marched back to the bowl and began mixing again. Sonia thought about how cute you are before making her way back to the bowl as well.
“Now, for the part that makes Baumkuchen special, how to bake it, aka…” You gently tapped your pointer fingers against the large bowl as a makeshift drum roll. Then you threw your arms out in the direction of a machine in a corner of the room. “Why there’s a hole in the middle of the cake and how we get the rings that make it look like the inside of a tree!” Sonia raced to the machine, excitedly looking it over. “First we pour the batter in the half cylinder.” She eagerly watched as you continued. “And see the window on the door?” Pressing a button an orange light emanated from the back. “That is the roller and behind THAT is the flames.” You then opened the door. “And while this is open the flames are covered. The roller itself can be pulled up and down like a lever, forward… goes into the batter, then back up into the oven, so we can close the door and let it bake. And just watch, the batter’ll turn into this bright orange color. Then when it’s like that I’ll open the door, place it back in the batter, bake again, and we repeat the process till we have our tree ring cakes!” “Amazing!” “And best part is, because of how big this machine is, we get twelve cakes for you!” Though Sonia was elated at the though of eating so many cakes you had made together, she was even more glad seeing how you talked through the process so happily.
“Now with the last layer baked, we can cut and let them cool.” You held a knife against the long cake letting the roller spin and do the work as you just held the knife. You didn’t even need to measure to get twelve evenly sized cakes. You slid the cakes off the roller placing them on wire racks to cool. With your hands on your hips you took a step back. “Say, care for some chocolate? We can have the cakes plain, but chocolate is commonly placed on top. Oh! I can show you how to get a mirror like shine! Ah, and we can use candy molds to make chocolate pieces to place on top and we could drizzle some white chocolate for designs.” “Yes! Let’s keep baking! I want to do more with you!” “Awesome! In fact, I have Novoselic chocolate if you’re interested.” “That’d be lovely. Thank you, Y/N.” “I, heh heh, you don’t have to thank me. It’s only natural that I want to use only the best ingredients.” “Truly!? That’s fantastic news! Ah, perhaps once you become a famous baker, you could endorse Novoselic chocolate and wine! Those are our main trade but with you surely business will boom!” “Well… I’d love too. It would be nice to teach others about how to get ingredients that are both fresh and ethically sourced.” Why did Sonia have to have the uncanny ability to so easily make you blush and giddy so easily.
With the chocolate melted you set about pouring it into molds and glazing it over a few of the cakes before placing it all into the refrigerator. Now all that was left was clean up. And there was an awful lot to clean, but it was all a part of baking. You rather enjoy this actually. After the excitement of running around and baking, it was calm and relaxing to clean, a sort of cool down period after the heat of the kitchen. “Hmm, hey, Nevermind, you got some chocolate on your cheek. Let me get it, since your hands are all wet from washing dishes. With your thumb you wiped off the chocolate before licking it, not wanting to dirty the supplies you were collecting
Wait.
You…
You dropped everything burying your face into your hands, kneeling down just wanting to disappear. You mumbled apologies quietly, simply too embarrassed to do anything more. Perhaps… perhaps you got too relaxed. You felt your hands gently being pulled away from your face only to see Sonia. You fell silent, your mind going blank. You chastised yourself for reacting so much when you should have just played it cool.  You froze as she leaned in, and… she kissed you on the cheek. “You had some chocolate on your cheek too.” She giggled, lifting you to your feet as your face flushed such a bright red. “My heart can’t take this.” You rested your face in your hand, still just wanting to momentarily disappear from how fast your heart raced.
“Evening already?” “Yeah, guess I forgot to warn you. Baking can take a while.” “Well then, let’s go get dinner and catch a movie.” “I know this traditional restaurant downtown, and I think a new drama came out recently.” “I know of it! That sounds lovely.” Taking her hand, you lead the way. As you exited the campus you spotted Teru chatting with Nagito before abruptly stopping, winking, and giving you a thumbs up.
It was a nice evening much like all other times you had hung out. Mostly some chatting, learning about your respective home countries and traditions.
The next day you had woken up excitedly, finally, it was Sonia’s birthday, and you were going to confess this time! You took the best cake to class only to find, as usual, chaos had ensued, several actually. Mostly the usual rivalries. So much for the others being calm and giving Sonia, Chiaki and Hajime a day off. You placed the cake on Sonia’s desk while you sat on the one next to her’s. Then something caught your ear. “Miss Nevermind! Who do you love!?” Quite bold- Wait. At first you assumed Kazuichi meant between him and Gundham, but instead both looked shellshocked. Sonia simply walked away, standing beside you. She gestured to you. “I just told you, my partner.” A long quiet squeak like nose escaped you, like air seeping out of a balloon as she kissed you on the cheek. “Y/N. Not only do I love them, they’re already growing into a model ruler for Novoselic.” Teruteru devilishly smiled, taking a seat at the desk you sat on, enjoying the show. “I- Wait, WE’RE DATING!? WE’RE PARTNERS!?” Gundham took a step forward. “How can one begin a mating ritual without knowing you’re doing so?” Kazuichi then jumped up out of his seat. “HOW CAN YOU DATE SOMEONE LIKE MISS NEVERMIND AND NOT KNOW!?” Both you and Soina looked to one another, baffled. “Y/N, you asked me out. Do you not remember?” “I… I’ve tried? Like? Thousands of times? But? It all failed?” “I know.” “… Please explain, I’m so confused right now!” Taking your hands into hers, she looked to you with sparkles in her eyes. “You had sent a Baumkuchen home, proving your worth by it not being poisoned, gifting it to my family and servants. They were also impressed by how persistent you were in confessing despite all other times ending in failure and with all the difficulties and trouble you’d have to go to, to mail something to such an unknown country! They sent me your note back, and now I finally get the tree cake I never got before!” “oh… so that actually worked.” Your blush darkened with each moment. “well… at least I made a good first impression.” “Yes, yes you did!” It was then you noticed how Teru was so desperately attempting to protect your cake from Akane. “Uh, we better eat it then before Akane gets to it.” “Akane?” Sonia flipped around, pointing to the woman. “Halt right there! Only I and my partner shall eat my cake!”
As you watched the chaos ensue you realized that actually was a while ago… And after that Sonia started talking to you more and started tutoring you and you started hanging out more. Maybe… maybe you should have noticed Sonia’s feelings for you sooner. At least you knew you were together now. And now that you knew, you were determined to dive into your studies so you could be a worthy partner for both Sonia and her people.

Sniffles And Quilts - Part Two
GORDIE:
Gordie is the kind to tough it out, even if he really can’t. He’ll continue to fight, wander, and have fun, until his body just says, ‘no’.
Will, indeed, get a lecture from Melony in taking care of himself, but it’s not like he’ll ever listen. This guy is a blanket horder, and will yank it to get it on him somehow. One way or another, he’ll have that blanket.
Dresses in barely anything. He doesn’t even bother fixing his hair, so it’s all natural up until he feels better.
Doesn’t mind getting taken care of, he insists he can handle himself. But he can’t deny the tastiness of his mother’s food, so you won’t be able to catch him complaining.
MELONY:
Takes being sick like a champ, and can almost completely get rid of the sickness in less than a day or so. She’s a mother, after all. She is, le expert.
She wouldn’t even look sick either. It’s very rare for her to get sick, so it’s almost like no one has ever seen her ill. Melony also cooks good food, so she’s well fed.
If someone insists on taking care of her though, she’d humor them, and allow them to spoil her with care. She wouldn’t do anything, but would help out if the carer looks like they’re having trouble.
She’d be back in shape in no time. But even so, she’s also a blanket yanker, and would collect all of them to wound herself into.
OPAL:
Opal has gone through a lot of sicknesses in her life, and a simple cold or fever is not gonna stop this grandma from doing what she’s gotta do.
Seriously though, Opal’s used to getting sick a lot when she was younger, that it hasn’t really fazed her anymore. The most she’ll do is probably a few sniffles or sneezes.
She doesn’t like it when people offer to take care of her. She may be old, but she’s still plenty capable of handling a measly cold. Pester her too much about it, and you’re getting a cane to the face.
Opal does, however, enjoy the cute concern of her pokemon, and don’t mind it if they choose to stay out of their pokeballs to hover around Opal.
PIERS:
Piers is usually the one taking care of Marnie whenever she gets sick. So Marnie laughs evilly when it’s her time to shine when it comes to taking care of her older brother. She takes on The Parent Role TM.
Piers hates being sick, and this lanky good boi will become foul boi, and easily get annoyed with anything that inconveniences him. Tissue box empty? Curse it into heavens. Nose blocked? Curse it into heavens. No voice? Curse it into heave— wait, no, he can’t, lost voice, my bad.
Will not have the energy to tie his hair up, so it just kinda flops all over the place. Marnie will only tie it if she’s putting a towel on Piers’ face.
This boy hates the taste of medicine, and will run from Marnie, who’ll have the medicine in hand. Much to his dismay, even Obstagoon knows he needs it, and will help Marnie pin him down. Consume the medicine.
RAIHAN:
Shares that he’s sick on social media, and will take cute sick pics which are actually gross my god Raihan. Tissues up his nose 24/7, or this boy won’t live.
Sneezes openly and loudly and is proud of it. However, Raihan is sane, and will cover all of it when he’s with any sort of company, including his pokemon... they’re still pretty loud though.
Likes playing with the thermometer. Once tricked Leon, who was taking care of him at the time, by doing that cartoon dip-the-thermometer-in-coffee thing, and almost gave the champion a heart attack.
Will recover quickly, and will cheesily tell his concerned fans, that it was their support that pulled him through. Leon in the background looking unimpressed.
SONIA:
This girl knows what tah do. She’s been working in a laboratory, so little gizmos to make her life a whole lot easier during illnesses probably exist.
Gets insanely cold during an illness, and will cuddle up with several pillows and thick quilts. Worst comes to worst, she’ll sleep in front of the heater, although her hair did catch fire once.
Sonia may seem organized, but when her nose acts up, there are bound to be tissues everywhere. Sometimes she’d find them in the strangest places, like under the stove, and would have no recollection as to how it got there.
Her little Yamper snuggles close to her whenever she’s sick, and knows which daily medicine she needs to give to her early in the morning or during the day, when Sonia herself is too busy to get them.

Sonsal Celebration Year 2, Day 8
The final day is here; and this one took me a bit to figure it out but here we go! I’ve enjoyed the celebration hosted by @boundforfreedomsonsal this year and look forward to more events to come. I honestly haven’t felt a drive for my solo writing like this in awhile. Sure I’ve had some projects cooking in the wings but they’re slo-mo going for various reasons. Maybe I just needed an injection of my favorite furry couple to light the fires? XD  In any case, enjoy and can’t wait to hear what’cha all think.
PROTECT:
Flipping her book to a new page, Sally’s eyes began to read over the new lines of the beginning paragraph. The curl of a smile began to form more as she read on with the book. Said book was actually was not the full release novel. Wanting to encourage her friends’ new hobby, Sally had offered to be a beta-reader and thus the manuscript was in her hand; a manuscript that Nicole had already bound as a book to ‘sell the experience’, a rather cute gesture Sally appreciated since she did enjoy the ‘feel’ of a book in her hands. As she moved to the next page, she softly chuckled. “I think Nicole is channeling you into the male love interest, he reminds me so much of you Sonic.” The book was actually a thriller but there was a romance subplot, and Sally couldn’t help but notice two of the lead characters channeled Sonic and herself. There was another female character who seemed to be trying to romance both, and this made Sally raise an eyebrow as that character felt like a fusion of Nicole and Bunnie. Was Nicole just being creative or was she projecting something into her hobby?
With the book obscuring her view, she didn’t see Sonic but could hear him walking back into their bedroom from the adjacent bathroom, having finished brushing his teeth. “Oh? So how does this fictional guy remind you of moi?” He playfully inquired, his footsteps softened as the bed shook, indicative of him crawling onto it from the bottom edge.
After she finished scanning the current paragraph, the skin under her fur began to blush as a ‘love scene’ started, and again she had to wonder if Nicole was somehow psychic or if she could ‘see’ things through the nanites regardless of her wishes; or in a worst-case, ‘Sally-did-not-want-to-believe-it’ scenario, a voyeur. Especially since the scene described the two characters slipping into a utility closet for a ‘quickie’; which invoked a memory or two Sally had of Sonic and her doing similar things. Shaking her head, she dismissed such a crazy notion; it wasn’t an uncommon romantic story set-up, so that was probably the case, making her feel silly for even considering Nicole would have peeped on Sonic and her.
“Long and short of it sweetie, he’s got your flair for ‘smooth style’ as you put it.” She answered her husband, moving to the next page. Suddenly she felt her nightgown being pulled up past her thighs and belly, making her lower the manuscript and stare at her husband with a slight frown and raised an eyebrow. “Sonic, what are you doing? I’m not in the mood.” She flatly told him; and she wasn’t despite the slight spicy turn in the novel she was prereading.
Looking at his wife, Sonic put a hand to his chest fur as if wounded by her accusation. “You think I would start being frisky without checking with my wife? For shame Sal!’ He ‘tsked’ and wagged a finger in the air. “Much as I enjoy lovin’ on you, my goal is to do this.” With that statement said, Sonic then laid his head on Sally’s four and a half month pregnant belly. His ears began to twitch as he nuzzled and listened for any sounds or signs of movement within. A hand rested along her belly where his head was not resting, slowly, softly stroking in tender circular motions. The expression on his face was a mixture of pride, love, happiness, and something, Sally could not put a word to it; but it made her heart melt seeing her beloved husband so, in-love with the lives growing inside of her.
Smiling Sally put a bookmark between the pages of the manuscript and set it on the nightstand, content to just watch her husband rest on her belly. “You can’t get enough of that can you?”
Flashing his own smile her way, he made a sound that was just joyful as his cheek nuzzled her swollen-with-child belly. “They need to hurry and come on out.”
“Three and a half months at the least Sonic, you can wait a little longer. Not that I don’t wish they could hurry from time to time myself.” Sally couldn’t help but giggle some at his impatience but ultimately she also sympathized. She wanted her little bundles in her arms as well. So far she was enjoying her pregnancy; the highs and lows together even if the lows were sometimes unbearable. Sally was someone who liked to be in control of her faculties, and her hormones making her irrational at the drop of a hat was not entirely her idea of fun.
Still, the upside outweighed that, but she would be happy to not have her bladder kicked every half hour! After a moment’s debate, Sally gripped her nightgown bunched up just under her chest and pulled the article off and cast it aside.
Craning his head, Sonic sent her a playful smile. “I thought you weren’t in the mood?” Laughing she playfully smacked his arm. “I’m not, I just got a hot flash, and well- these!” She gestured to her chest which had gained some growth. “They felt too confined, and urgh heavy! How much milk does my body think I need to produce?!”
Unable to help himself, Sonic laughed as his lovely wife hefted her breasts while looking out of sorts with the recent hormonal developments. As she pouted at him, he waved a hand apologetically in the air. “S-sorry Sal, just watching you juggle them around is too damn funny! P-plus if I may be frank it’s kinda probably a thing since you’re having twins. Remember how much my Mom got bigger in the chest when she was pregnant with Sonia and Manik? Plus if our kids have my metabolism they’ll be hungry suckers.”
Pouting she quickly if carefully stops hefting her chest and crossed her arms. “The next time ‘YOU’ have our child. I am making it a royal decree. Let’s see how much you laugh with the back-pain, bladder control issues, cravings, and hyper mood-swings.”
Snorting Sonic sat upon his knees, a hand still on her belly. “I kinda lack the equipment Sal, so decree all you want.”
As Sally opened her mouth to make a retort, she slowly closed her mouth, then opened it again but yet as before closed it as she could not think of a solid argument. Pouting in frustration she threw her hands up in the air. “Fine you win this one.”
Having dealt with her mood swings enough, Sonic could see she was one-foot in the midst of one; hence her insistence he carry the next kid despite being a biological impossibility. Moving his hand from her belly he scooted down the bed toward her upper half and gently slid his hand around one of hers and squeezed. “Hey don’t frazzle yourself hun, I just got one over ya’ this time. No big.”
“I know, it’s just mildly annoying when my hormones make my mind or mouth run away without a clear thought.” She murmured, rubbing the bridge of her nose with her free hand. Looking his way, she smiled warmly. “I appreciate you putting up with me when I get out of sorts.”
“Hey fair’s fair, you put up with me.” He winked, which as he hoped got her to laugh. “There we go, have a chuckle hun, let the bad vibes out of your system. Plus heck if you really don’t wanna do this again we don’t have to have anymore kids.”
She nodded, looking thoughtful as she pondered this. “Suppose we do?” “We can adopt.” He pointed out.
Sally couldn’t help but consider all angles; “Suppose I lose my mind and want to be pregnant again?”
Sonic shrugged, “Stuff to consider when we come to that bridge Sal. Right now, just focus on these two. I have a feeling they’ll keep us busy and on our toes well enough. Whatever we decide we decide together.”
Unable to not smile, she brought his hand to her lips and kissed it. “I love you, and thank you for putting me at ease about those future thoughts.”
“S’what husbands are for right?” He chuckled kissing her back before moving back towards her belly. Once back in place, Sonic resumed resting against his wife’s belly, planting a warm kiss against the lump housing their children. “Mama and Daddy kicked all the bad guys butts for you before you were born, but we’re gonna protect you still when you come into the world.” He coo’d, as he continued to massage his wife’s abdomen which had a soothing effect on Sally as she relaxed against her pillows.
“Damn right we did, and mmmm, don’t stop.” A low moan of contentment left Sally as she found her eyes fluttering. She guessed it was time for bed after all. “...I want… I want to give them the best lives we can Sonic. That’s all I want for them.”
Glancing her way, Sonic slid a hand up to wrap around hers, squeezing as he then moved up the bed, now laying beside Sally and kissed her softly. “We will, that’s always gonna be the plan Sal, they ain’t ever gonna go through the crap we did, nor will they question if we love em’.”
Nodding softly as her eyes fluttered, Sally squeezed his hand, then moved her arms around him to pull him against her side like he was a cuddle toy. “I hope we’re ready, I want this but I worry I might not be good enough-.”
“I worry too Sal.” He gently interrupted, kissing her tired eyes as her sleepy expression grew across her face. “I worry too, but I know we’ll figure stuff we go together. Like we always have.” Nuzzling her cheeks, he reached down to pull the covers over her so she wouldn’t catch a cold. “Sleep sweetie, I love you.”
“Mmm love you too my sweet Hog’.” Sally murmured before sleep fully and utterly claimed her. Leaving Sonic to kill the light by the nightstand before he curled back against her, watching her sleep as he lets his own body relax. Sleep would come for him eventually, until then, he wanted to keep watch on his wife and unborn children.
Even in peace, he would keep protecting. It’s just how Sonic was, and always would be.

The Protagonist
Leon’s lil bro has a best friend. She’s...too good at Pokemon. She’s never lost a battle, and the normal rules of raising them doesn’t seem to apply to her. It’s a phenomenon Leon himself is all too familiar with, and he will NOT let her feel alone like he did.
--- Leon looked around restlessly. Oh boy. He really was pants with directions, even he could admit that, but he was certain she would be around here, Hop had said as much. He heard a sniffle come from behind a large pile of rocks.
Ah.
He peeked around it and saw a familiar beret-topped wave of brunette hair. He silently thanked the Poke’ Gods that his lil bro knew how much his best friend loved to wear berets. The last few times he had seen her, she seemed just as chipper as Hop. But right now she was curled up against the stone, her knees drawn up to her chest and her face buried in her arms. Not at all chipper.
He knelt down in front of her, cape swishing. “Gloria?”
The young girl’s head shot up, revealing a blotchy face and watering eyes. She sniffled again and hurriedly wiped her cheeks. Leon offered a comforting smile.
“Hey kiddo. What’s got ya down? Did you lose a battle?” he asked.
Gloria looked away, and Leon wasn’t sure if that was confirmation or not. His worries made him hope it was the case.
“Don’t let it get you down, even the best Trainers have to lose a couple. The important thing is--” “I didn’t,” a tiny voice interrupted the Champion.
“Ah- oh?” “I won. Hope challenged me to a battle again, and I won. Again,” Gloria mumbled.
Leon cocked his head in visible confusion, but his insides were already starting to squirm with long-harbored suspicions. Even still, he played the unwitting one.
“Huh. Well, I wouldn’t think that’d be a reason for tears now,” he said.
Gloria’s grip on her arms tightened and her brow furrowed. She looked like she was struggling to decide if she wanted to say something.
“...Can you keep a secret?” she finally asked.
“Of course I can,” Leon replied immediately. “I may be garbage with directions, but I can keep a secret.” Gloria took a breath.
“I think there’s something wrong with me. I don’t think I’m normal. Or maybe my...maybe my Pokemon aren’t normal? Every person I come across who challenges me to a battle, I beat them easily. My Pokemon are always several levels higher than anyone else’s, and they...they level up faster, too. People are always telling me how hard it can be to raise a Pokemon, and how it’s even harder to balance raising a full team of 6. I had a full team of 6 by the first Gym, and I never had any trouble with it! And Hop...every time he fights me, I beat him so easily, even though I know he trains as hard as, if not harder than me. So why am I so far ahead of him? Why am I so far ahead of everybody?”
Her eyes start to water, threatening to spill over.
“Hop, and two other Challengers, B-Bede and M-Marnie...they all decided to be my rivals so they could beat me someday. And they all have something to gain and lose in this tournament. Marnie wants to help her hometown. Bede was endorsed by Mr. Rose, apparently. He wants to prove Mr. Rose’s faith was well placed. And Hop…” she trailed off, like she didn’t want to say the reason. Leon knew, but he didn’t say anything. He’d known for a while.
“But they haven’t beaten me yet, none of them have ever come close. And I...I d-don’t-- think they ever will. I like my rivals, they’re my friends, battling them is fun. But every time I win, I can see them grow a little more frustrated. Every time I win and they lose, they wonder what they’re doing wrong. I don’t want-- I don’t--”
The tears started to flow now, as fast as the words from the young girl’s mouth.
“W-Wh-hat if they--wh-at i-f they h-h-hate me? What if they d-d-don’t like m-me an-nymore because I-- because I alw-ways win? What if Hop starts to hate me? What if--” “Hey hey hey kiddo, slow down. Take a deep breath c’mon now, you’re gonna make yourself silly. Here.” Leon offered the edge of his cape, and Gloria dabbed at her swollen watery eyes, sniffling.
“Am I a-- a b-bad person for always wh-wh-winning?” Gloria whispered. Leon sighed.
“No. You’re not a bad person Gloria. But unfortunately, your unusual talent for Pokemon training and battling isn’t normal.” He placed a hand on her shoulder. “You might’ve figured this out already but I think you’re a Protagonist.”
Gloria stiffened. “How did you- how do you know about--” Leon chuckled. “Why do you think I’m the Unbeatable Champion, kid? My battle style of not holding back is because I’m literally incapable of it. Even if I try to hold back, I still win. And lemme tell ya, it has been a blessing and a curse.”
“So...so you knew? About this, about me, being a...Protagonist?” Gloria asked. “Weeelllll...I had an inkling. When I saw all your Gym matches so far, and how easily you won...it reminded me of myself when I was doing the Gym Challenge. At first I thought I just had a talent, but when I started hearing about how other Trainers more skilled than me had lost matches while I hadn’t, I started to wonder if I was more than just talented. And just like you, Raihan and Sonia, my own rivals, never beat me.” Leon seated himself next to Gloria, leaning against the rock. “I understand how difficult this must be for you, Gloria. When I was your age, I sometimes squabbled with my rivals because they grew frustrated they couldn’t beat me, especially Sonia. I think Raihan was just as frustrated, but he’s never really shown it.” He caught Gloria’s distraught look and quickly held up his hands. “W-We’re all still really good friends though, don’t worry! It’s good to have rivals, but we all found other things to strive for other than beating each other in battles. Though her gran initially pushed her into it, I think Sonia really enjoys the work she does now. She was always the smartest of the three of us. The point is,” Leon continued, putting a comforting arm around Gloria’s shoulders, “It’s true, you didn’t ask for this. And it’ll be up to you what you do with this ability, it can be both a blessing and a curse. A double-edged sword, if you will. You can’t lose if you try, but if you don’t try, are you really respecting your abilities and those of your opponents?” “But! If I don’t hold back, they’ll never beat me! It doesn’t matter because I’ll always win, no matter how skilled they get!” Gloria nearly shouted in her protest.
Leon’s mouth twisted and he closed his eyes, clearly thinking hard about his reply. “I’m no good at fancy talk, but think about it like this. You may not think it matters, but your rivals probably look up to you as something to attain. Even if it’s impossible for them, it pushes them far beyond what they would normally be capable of. Even in the world of Pokemon training, like any other craft, perfection is impossible, but something all people strive towards. It’s what we do as humans. People like you and I are just...a little closer than everyone else. But we aren’t perfect either. Think about what you want to use your gift for. After a lot of thought, I decided I wanted to maintain my status as an unbeatable Champion after seeing how inspired it made people.” Gloria’s eyes were still watering and she looked up at him, tearful. Even though she was Hop’s age and less than half Leon’s, she looked very small.
“...Am I a bad person for feeling so ungrateful like this?” she asked in a tiny voice. “No,” Leon answered immediately. “You’re just a kid, Gloria. I was just a kid, too. And looking back, I wish I had someone to help me understand why I was too good at Pokemon. You’ll always have your mom, and you’ll always have Hop, too. You two rascals grew up together; even when he acts frustrated after losing, he cares about you too much to let this get in the way of your friendship. So chin up, okay kiddo?”
Leon draped part of his cape over Gloria’s head and offered another grin, this one much wider. Gloria returned it with a watery one of her own. Leon opened his arm out. “C’mere squirt.” Gloria practically fell into Leon’s side, burying her face in the fluffy fringe of his cape and hugging him tightly.
“You’ll be fine, Gloria. You got your Pokemon, you got Hop, and now you got me, too. If you ever want someone to talk to about this, give me a ring. I’ll always try to make time if you need it.”
Gloria let go and sat up, wiping away the last of her tears. “Think you might have some time to eat some curry? I got some new ingredients,” she said. “Now that sounds like a champion idea! Howsabout you call Hop too, and we can all cook together. The more fans and ladles in the cauldron, the tastier!”
---
A friend and I had this inside joke that all player characters in Pokemon are probably REALLY weird to all the NPC’s because they have BPE (Big Protagonist Energy), like running around wildly, standing in one place for a long time, never emoting, and being ridiculously OP compared to everyone else. It’s often said by NPC’s that raising a team of 6 Pokemon is super hard but as the protag it’s super easy, you also usually don’t lose battles ever if you train enough. (I’ve only lost a battle once to an NPC in all my years of playing.) I then realized that a lot of the qualities of The Protagonist also apply to Leon from SWSH, and I fell in love with the idea of him realizing there’s another Protagonist in Galar, and how he reacts, as detailed in this post here. In my own playthrough I felt pretty bad about constantly beating my rivals with absolutely minimal effort cuz they were really trying and had something to prove from beating me.
So then of course I had to write about him confronting a very conflicted Gloria and comforting her and offering advice, gaining a Baby Sister in the process.  That being said do NOT tag this as LeonxGloria or LeonxYuumi or whatever, this is NOT a ship fic and in this iteration Gloria is a literal kid and Leon is an adult.

Rating/Warnings: just a warning for minor internalized homophobia on komaeda’s side! nothing major.
Prompt: “Anything about the two of them having a relationship is okay with me!! Feel free to play around with their relationship dynamics, who made the first move, what it’s like for them to be together."
Author’s notes: hello!! i’m your secret santa for the exchange! <3 i originally was going to do a kamukomahina piece but couldn’t think of anything for the longest time (i’m sorry!), so i decided to do something with this prompt instead, mostly ‘who made the first move’! i hope you enjoy!! (also, i think tumblr may have messed with my formatting a bit, so once this is posted here, a copy of this fic will be available on my ao3 where it’s for sure unaltered!)
Breakfasts on Jabberwock were really nice.
Everyone was still slowly getting used to being there, so not everybody showed all the time; there were a lot of people who were reminded too much of what happened in the Program to want to go and regroup where they used to do headcounts to ensure everyone survived the night. That was perfectly understandable.
But for those who did go, breakfast was arguably the best part of the day. It was incredibly refreshing to see each other again–alive and okay–and, to Hajime’s surprise, a lot of the past seemed to be exactly that–the past. Victims sat with the blackeneds that killed them, laughing and sharing stories from the lives they lived previous to their sophomore year. Teruteru got up extra early every single morning to cook; he’d even taken the time to memorize everyone’s favorite dish so he could incorporate them the best he could.
Hajime was relieved. By some stroke of luck, every single person had woken up even though they had a small chance of doing so, and he’d been able to (mostly) become himself again despite all of the tampering done to his brain. He enjoyed getting to talk to the friends he’d made inside the Program as if they had all been friends even before then, bouncing around between tables to have fragmented conversations and see how they were doing.
The one he sat with the most, though, was Nagito Komaeda.
He’d woken up last and Hajime had been there to personally help him up, and since then, Nagito seemed to be glued to Hajime the most out of the group. It wasn’t necessarily a bad thing; he didn’t cling to him or stalk him, but when it came to group situations, Nagito tended to follow him around like a lost puppy even if he didn’t say anything. Hajime truthfully didn’t mind; after all, Nagito had been the closest thing he had to a best friend in the Program until he had snapped. (Even after that, in a strange sort of way, Nagito still felt like his best friend, just distanced and strained.)
When it came to breakfast, Nagito always sat across the room by himself, only joining the others when prompted (which was seldom to never). Hajime always found it fairly sad–everybody else got a second chance, and it was only fair to give him one too–so he sat with him and talked to him more than the others. He told himself it wasn’t entirely out of pity; it wasn’t, truly, because Hajime enjoyed his company. Judging by the way Nagito would always gently smile as a faint blush dusted his pale cheeks anytime Hajime would sit across from him, Hajime figured Nagito enjoyed his, too.
This morning was no different; Akane and Nekomaru laughed heartily as they stuffed their faces together, Sonia, Kazuichi, and Gundham all sat together and chatted amongst themselves, and Mahiru and Ibuki stood by the food too distracted by conversation to grab anything yet.
Nagito was in his usual spot, nudging a potato around his plate uninterestedly, half-tempted to get up and leave.
“God, you eat like a bird.”
He lifted his head, met by Hajime as he slid into the seat across from him, plate piled high. Wordlessly, the brunet tilted his over a bit, pushing some fruit and eggs onto the nearly-empty plate before taking a piece of toast off of his and setting it on top. Nagito chuckled lightly as Hajime settled in, nudging Nagito’s plate back towards him.
“You need meat on your bones,” he urged, taking a bite of his own toast, “so eat it. And I know you like everything there, so don’t use that excuse, either.”
“Such an aggressive way of caring,” Nagito smiled, tucking white hair behind his ear. Despite his lack of appetite, he picked up his fork and stabbed a strawberry, popping it into his mouth to please the man across from him. Hajime hummed in response, politely swallowing before speaking.
“Of course.”
He wasn’t exactly sure what else to say, but it felt like enough, so the two sat in comfortable silence as they eavesdropped on the others.
The mechanical whirring had snapped Hajime back to reality, eyes flicking down to watch as Nagito flexed his fingers.
“How are you doing with that? Okay?”
Nagito nodded, flexing them a bit more before picking up the glass of water in front of him with it; his arm trembled and the water threatened to spill out, but he didn’t drop the glass once. He took a drink and set it back down.
“It’s getting better,” Nagito explained, rubbing the metal wrist with his organic hand, “I’ve been trying to do more things with my left side than I usually would. I’m just so used to completely ignoring my left hand that it’s easy to forget that the prosthetic is even there.”
Hajime nodded, examining it from where he was sitting.
“Thank you for building it for me.”
Hajime lifted his head again, Nagito’s gaze averted as the pink blush was back on his cheeks. The tips of his ears were a bit red, but thanks to his luck, his hair was wild enough to hide them from the other. Hajime laughed, nudging Nagito’s shin with his foot, which only seemed to deepen the blush.
“You don’t have to thank me anymore, you know,” he teased, “You’ve thanked me plenty of times since we’ve put it on. I know you’re thankful, Nagito; you’re welcome.”
Nagito’s pulse thumped so hard against his paper-thin skin that it was a wonder Hajime couldn’t see it against his neck. He blinked a little, smiling as he looked down at his plate to avoid looking at the brunet too long. Hajime just chalked it up to Nagito being Nagito and continued to eat, every so often urging the other to keep eating as well.
They continued making small talk until Hajime decided Nagito had eaten a decent amount; he excused himself so he could get up and talk to the others for a bit, but when he went to go back to his seat, Nagito had already left. A pang of disappointment hit the Hope’s chest, but only for a moment; he had just wanted to talk to him more, as all. He helped Teruteru clean everything up as the others began to leave as well.
The bittersweet thing about Jabberwock was that nobody really had jobs–everything was provided to them by the Future Foundation. Eventually they would get to go back to the mainland, but for the time being, they didn’t have to worry about anything and had all the free time in the world.
Hajime knew that it would one day become boring (and an echo in the back of his mind already claimed that it was), but he was content with it now.
Typically, whenever he didn’t have plans, he’d wander around the island until he found something to do. After breakfast, Kazuichi invited him to hang out for a while, which he did; after visiting with Kazuichi, he stopped by Mikan’s cottage to make sure she was okay since she had been avoiding leaving unless she absolutely had to. Once ensured she was alright, Hajime couldn’t think of anything else to do, so he chose to go to the library and pick a random book to read cover to cover.
The library was huge, and it (thankfully) wasn’t vandalized like the library in the Program had been. There were stacks of books on the floor where they had been taken out ages ago and never returned to their shelves; the air smelled old in the best possible way. The sound of Hajime’s steps echoed against the wide open space as he walked between the towering bookcases, wandering into the middle area where a handful of tables lingered. He had no idea what book he wanted to read; he figured he could just peruse the shelves and see what caught his eye.
“Ah, Hinata-kun!”
Hajime turned towards the direction of the voice; hidden between some of the stacks on the upper level was Nagito. He gave a wave of his metal hand before finding one of the ladders, holding on with one hand with a couple of books tucked under his other. Hajime went over to take them out from under him so the white-haired man could safely get to the ground floor. When Nagito’s feet hit the tile, he lifted his head with a gentle smile of appreciation, his cheeks pink again.
His cheeks are always so flushed and warm.
Hajime’s heart skipped against his ribs and he scratched his head so he could focus on a sensation someplace other than his chest.
“If I’d have known you were going to come here, I would have offered to walk with you!” Nagito ran a hand through his fluffed hair, striding over to one of the tables. Hajime instinctively followed, the other’s books still under his own arm.
“I didn’t originally plan to. I just got bored, as all.” Hajime tended to get bored fairly easily; Nagito knew this was because of Izuru. The luckster sat down, nudging away some of the hardcover books that had already been on top of the polished oak to make room for the books he had chosen.
“Ah, I understand. I figured I would come here and continue reading from where I left off the other day; I don’t have much better to do.”
“Of course! I forgot you were a bookworm.” Hajime smiled, sitting down in the chair next to the other, setting the books in front of him. Oddly enough, he could feel Nagito tense next to him and saw him shift uncomfortably out of the corner of his eye. When he glanced over to see what was wrong, Nagito’s soft green eyes were a bit averted, yet his body was angled politely towards him. Hajime was somewhat confused but didn’t press any further; Nagito could get nervous sometimes and he suspected that he might have been having an off day.
Looking back to the stack of books he’d carried for the other, Hajime read each title in his head as he shuffled through them, the smile on his face fading a bit as he entered analytical mode. Nagito was silent, but a pale hand reached over and tried to gently tug a book from underneath Hajime’s grip.
There seems to be a common theme here.
“Human sexuality… that seems like it would be interesting to read about,” Hajime said, nudging the books back over to Nagito. “I always thought it was cool.”
The luckster laughed almost forcefully and nervously, pulling them on the other side of himself so they were almost hidden away from the brunet. “Me too.”
Hajime furrowed his brow, a little confused, but sensed the other’s worsening nerves and attempted to drive the conversation further. “Is that why you’re reading about it? Just out of curiosity?”
Nagito nodded, giving him a small grin, but it was hard for him to hide the tense body language he held. “Yes, just… curious.”
Hajime nodded in return, waiting for the man to go on; he didn’t, his smile distancing further away from a smile and closer to a grimace. The brunet cleared his throat, trying to glance past the arms wrapped in the green jacket to get a peek at the spines again. Nagito shifted in his seat and strategically pushed them further behind him.
“What are you reading about now in specifics? Statistics? Community?”
The white-haired man hummed, looking away as he chuckled in thought. “Um…”
Much to Hajime’s surprise, he didn’t say anything else. His expression fell shamefully as if he were caught with his hand in the cookie jar and his cheeks began to burn. Hajime sat in wait of a response, but it didn’t even seem like Nagito could think of anything to say.
Silence hung in the air long enough for it to become awkward. Puzzle pieces began to shift together in Hajime’s head.
The nerves, the topic, the cute pink cheeks.
Ah–stop focusing on that!
“Nagito,” Hajime started, tilting his head with a soft, knowing smile. “We’re best friends, right?”
Nagito’s cheeks burned a bit darker and he squeezed his hands together tightly in his lap. He stuttered over his words. “Ah, ah, um–I–yes.”
“I don’t want you to be offended by me asking you something, okay?” Hajime turned to look his friend in the eye, who was wearing an expression that told the brunet that he was likely internally panicking but was trying to hide it. Nagito didn’t stop him, though, and nodded.
“Of course, H-Hinata-kun. What’s on your mind…?” His voice cracked.
“Looking at these books–and thinking about some of the things you’ve said and done before–Nagito, are you gay?” Hajime laughed lightly, feeling a bit ridiculous in his wording. In this day and age, it’s not really a big deal. “Come to think of it, you’ve never said a single flirtatious thing towards any of the girls, have you? The guys, however…” Hajime’s own cheeks flushed as he began to realize how many teasing things Nagito had said to him before.
Actually, a good majority of those flirtatious things are targeted at me…
Nagito just blinked for a moment, looking as if he were a deer in the headlights. His cheeks were dusted with a deep red rather than his typical pink and his chest rose and fell at a quicker rate. Green eyes searched Hajime over, pupils dilated as he tried to think of something to say. Unable to get the words to come out, the white-haired man abruptly stood up, bangs hanging in his face as he pulled his jacket tightly around himself.
“I–I’m sorry, Hinata, I have to go–” His voice trailed off as he shook his head and held up a hand in apology, quickly striding toward the entrance.
“No–wait–Nagito!” Hajime called with his hands out, standing up in panic, “That wasn’t supposed to sound like a bad thing!”
By some miracle, the luckster stopped in his tracks, arms wrapped protectively around himself as he stood with his back to Hajime. He said nothing for a few moments, Hajime’s blood loud in his ears as he feared he made a terrible, terrible mistake. Nagito turned his head a bit, and the vulnerability visible on his face made Hajime’s chest twinge in an unidentifiable emotion.
“It’s… not…?”
“Of course not, Nagito,” Hajime let out a sigh of relief, smiling gently, “It was just a question. That’s all. It doesn’t matter whatsoever what your sexuality is! You’re my best friend; I just kind of figured you’d be more open about something like that with me, I’m sorry.”
Nagito blinked, turning to face Hajime, but he still stood where he was and hugged himself. He looked on the verge of tears, eyes looking someplace by Hajime’s feet, his mouth tight. Izuru droned from deep within him that he should have just left it at that and changed the subject, but Hajime didn’t have anywhere near as much impulse control. His voice was low and gentle as he spoke again.
“How long have you known?”
Nagito was silent, swallowing as he considered the answer to Hajime’s question. The brunet still stood in front of his chair, determined to make the other feel comfortable enough to come back over where he had been before. Finally, Nagito lifted his head, walking back over with cautious steps.
“Since grade school,” he explained, breathy voice soft as if he were suddenly aware that they were in a library, “I always thought the boys in my classes were cute. Girls liked me, but I didn’t even really care.” Hajime sat back down as Nagito drew closer, and he was glad he did when the other sat back in his seat, hands folded nervously in his lap as he picked at his fingers. “I thought it was normal. I didn’t realize that I was expected to like girls and not boys.”
Hajime nodded, allowing Nagito the space to vent if he needed it, but he seemed to want to leave it at that, turning his head with downcast eyes. The brunet smiled, leaning in a bit.
“Wow, that’s really cool you learned that about yourself so early!” Hajime felt his cheeks flare with heat in horrified anticipation of what was about to spill from his mouth, but he forced himself to say it anyway. “I only realized in high school, haha.”
Nagito suddenly came back to life, snapping his head in his direction with a gaze that looked borderline horrified. His eyes were blown wide and his mouth hung open as he reeled back a bit, hand to his chest.
“Hajime–you’re–?”
“–Well, not exactly gay; I’m bisexual,” Hajime explained calmly, trying to convey that this really wasn’t a big deal even though he was positive he was as red as the design on Nagito’s jacket. He laughed it off, even as Nagito’s own face flushed. “I always had a thing for girls, but my freshman year, I started getting crushes on a couple of guys in homeroom. I think the reason I realized so late was because none of the guys from my hometown class were really that attractive.”
Nagito nodded, looking to the side, his expression still shocked. His hands trembled in his lap and Hajime frowned; he was still nervous, which wasn’t good.
“No big deal,” Hajime repeated, smiling gently at Nagito when he lifted his gaze, “See?”
The other nodded again, his eyes drifting further down Hajime’s face, fixated on his lips with a far-gone expression. The brunet felt his heart thump harder in his chest, but he forced himself to stay put and wait for whatever the other did next. Nagito eventually looked back up, tucking wispy white hair behind his red ear, and stood back up on slightly-trembling legs.
“T-Thank you, for your–a-ah–support, H–H–” Nagito squeezed his eyes shut and dug his nails into his palms, swallowing, “–HHHHHinata. Kun.”
If Hajime was a bit skeptical about the apparent crush he’d realized Nagito had on him over the course of the time they were sitting there, he was nearly positive about it now. He sat slightly mesmerised as he watched Nagito wipe his palms on his black skinny jeans, pulling his jacket further around himself.
“I–I forgot, I promised Tsumiki-san I’d meet her f-for, um, tea,” the luckster smiled, visibly horrified (and a very bad liar, Hajime noted), “s-so I should probably get going before I’m late.”
Nagito bowed politely, chain on his belt clinking against itself as he moved. “T–Thank you for spending time with me–Hajime–! Even though it was short!”
“Ah, of course, Nagi–”
Hajime furrowed his brow with an intrigued grin as Nagito hurried away, not even allowing his friend to finish his sentence. The brunet sat in stunned silence as he listened to the soft footsteps echo further and further away (quickening in pace closer to the door he got); he didn’t move until he heard the door close, clicking in the latch.
Well, that was something… though, I feel kind of bad… I didn’t mean to scare him.
The Hope scratched his head, his heart light in his chest. The more he thought about it, the more he realized that it was slightly assholish to put the other man on the spot like that–clearly, Nagito was a little insecure about himself, even though he had no reason to be. After all, nobody on the island would care what his preference was! In fact, Hajime was almost certain that Teruteru and Mahiru were both open about being bisexual and lesbian, respectively, and no one batted an eye. He wouldn’t tell Nagito this, but Kazuichi and Ibuki had both asked Hajime what way Nagito leant on separate occasions. Whenever the others would joke with Nagito about ogling the girls–on the beach, for example–he would laugh it off and insist that he respected the girls far too much to stare at them. At first, Hajime thought this was because he was a respectful guy (and he truly was), but thinking about it now, he realized he likely did so because he simply wasn’t interested in any of them.
Hajime did, however, catch Nagito innocently blushing around Nekomaru when he’d take his shirt off on a hot day, or Kazuichi when he’d tie his hair back with his face slicked with lithium grease, or Hajime when he’d say something particularly funny.
Or Hajime when he’d ramble on to Nagito about how important he was when he was having a bad day, or Hajime when he’d ask him questions about his physical and mental health to make sure he was doing alright, or Hajime when he’d agree to hang out with him.
Come to think of it, Nagito blushed a lot when he talked to Hajime.
The brunet found himself blushing in return, touching his cheeks as he felt them burning. His heart fluttered and he cursed it–not knowing why–but the more he tried to fight it, the lighter it became.
There may have been a small possibility that Hajime was flattered and also slightly infatuated with the luckster.
Why though? I’d never thought about this before…
And it was true–he hadn’t. But he’d always thought Nagito was incredibly beautiful for a man; his skin was like snow and completely free of imperfections. His hair was wild yet tamed at the same time, wispy and framing around his defined face. He, even after what had happened in the game, tried his best to smile and have a positive outlook on life for the others, even if he didn’t have that same outlook towards himself. He was always kind and gentle.
Realizing that Nagito–to a degree–also found Hajime attractive had been the icing on the cake, apparently.
Hajime shook his head to try and free himself from the thoughts and glanced back at the books sitting on the table.
He smiled warmly at the thought of the luckster carefully picking them out, eager to see what information hid between the covers.
Another thought crossed his mind that made him chuckle out loud.
“Wait, Mikan doesn’t even like tea.”
Hajime had been hoping to sit with Nagito at dinner to ease his nerves (and also see if his heart grew airy now that he’d realized he had a slight crush). However, for the whole hour and a half that was open for the Remnants to eat, the taller man never appeared. The brunet opted to sit with Sonia, Gundham, and Kazuichi instead, laughing and talking with them, but the other never left the back of his mind.
I really hope I didn’t offend him or embarrass him too badly.
Once everybody who came dispersed, Hajime went back to his cottage, glancing at Nagito’s door before he went inside. Light shone through the crack next to the doormat, so he knew he was home. He thought about stopping by, but he decided against it, figuring he needed to recharge.
He’d showered, watched TV for a while, and ultimately decided to lay down at 10. It was funny that some of the killing game habits remained instilled within everyone even though the rules were no longer in place–everyone instinctively rose at 7 as well. He was tired, but as he laid in bed trying to sleep, he found that he couldn’t. His mind kept drifting to Nagito.
Nagito, Nagito, Nagito.
Every time he mulled over his name, his appearance, or his personality, Hajime felt his heart move further up his throat.
I’m… attracted to Nagito Komaeda.
At the beginning of the day, if someone had told him that he was, he would have laughed it off–he wouldn’t have realized the signs. Perhaps he would’ve thought of it as a harmless squish, but something about knowing that it was reciprocated tenfold made Hajime feel much more serious about it.
Nagito Komaeda is attracted to me.
Hajime supposed he always was; he had nearly confessed to him in the game, now that he thought about it, before aborting the confession last second. He’d showered him with gifts (like his favorite mochi) and was overly protective of the brunet. (Actually, he’d had liar’s disease and told Hajime that he hated him–had he confessed right then and he was only JUST NOW realizing?? Was he really that dumb?)
He hadn’t realized he’d gotten out of bed and slid his shoes on until he was shuffling along the dock, night air chilly on his skin.
He almost felt like he was outside of his body and watching himself as he knocked on Nagito’s door, standing in wait.
Izuru, is this you that’s driving me to do this?
Hajime could almost hear the monotone in the back of his mind, complaining of getting bored of the repetitive thoughts. I don’t want to listen to you mull this over much longer. It is better to act than to dwell.
The other didn’t come to the door, and Hajime rubbed his arms in an attempt to warm them up, the water making the air colder than usual. After another beat of no answer, the Hope went to turn on his heel, figuring he could always check in on him tomorrow.
The door behind him clicked open, warmth from the cottage gracing over the backs of his arms. Hajime turned his head, met by Nagito, who had the door cracked open just enough to see out of it.
Hajime concluded that he was most definitely on autopilot for the time being when he blinked at the white-haired luckster, no hesitation whatsoever. He didn’t even allow the other to get a word in.
“Nagito, do you want to go on a date?”
Hajime thought he was going to have to catch Nagito before he fell, shock spreading across his face as he choked, grasping at his chest. Soft cotton balled in his fist and he hunched over slightly and gasped for air.
“Hinata–are you trying to give me a heart attack–?”
It was an interesting reaction, to say the least, but Hajime forced Izuru to stop treating the man like a social experiment and more like the fragile guy he was. He supposed Izuru couldn’t really help it; he was wired that way–to seek after anything he could find interesting.
He reached out to place his cold hands on Nagito’s biceps to steady him, the pale skin burning hot. “Hey, hey, Nagito, relax, it’s okay!”
The luckster lifted his head; his green eyes were dilated immensely as he looked the Hope over, trying to catch his breath. He was so, so vulnerable, and Hajime felt slightly honored that he was one of the only ones who had ever seen him like this.
“Can I come in?”
Nagito swallowed and nodded, turning and floating into his cottage. Hajime followed, shutting the door behind him, watching from the mat as Nagito sat on his bed (it was messy, Hajime noted, he must have been sleeping). Frail arms wrapped around his own torso, pulling his legs up to cross them against the sheets. He wore pajama pants that were almost a size too big, falling down a little and revealing sharp hipbones.
“You know, Hajime,” Nagito finally said, voice breathy as he was on the verge of tears, “it’s not nice to tease.”
“I’m not teasing you,” Hajime responded immediately, sounding a bit hurt at the idea, “I’m serious.”
Nagito just shook his head, inhaling sharply as he hid his face in his hands. Hajime approached him carefully, not wanting to upset him further but not wanting to leave him as he was.
“I should have tried harder,” Nagito began, voice muffled in his hands, “I shouldn’t have admitted it so easily. I should have denied it.”
“Don’t be ridiculous,” Hajime insisted, moving closer. He sat down on the bed slowly as to not disturb the luckster much.
“I wish I didn’t mess everything up. I wish I could just be normal,” Nagito sniffled, and Hajime happened to notice that his hands were wet with tears, “What bad luck. I wish I could swallow my feelings, but I–” He wiped his eyes, wedging a hand in his hair, “–but I can’t–”
“–Nagito, please listen for a minute!” Hajime threw an arm around the other’s shoulders, pulling him close and strapping his other arm around his chest. Nagito seemed a bit thrown off by the embrace but welcomed it. “You’re normal. Your feelings don’t make you any less ‘normal’. Ignoring your feelings isn’t healthy. I’m glad you trusted me enough to tell me, but I also want to apologize.”
The fragile man looked over to the Hope with glistening green eyes, confused. Hajime cleared his throat, reaching out to hold a wet hand. It didn’t bother him no matter how self-conscious Nagito silently was about it.
“I didn’t realize that you weren’t exactly comfortable in your skin just yet. I didn’t mean to put you on the spot like that; it was rude of me and I’m really sorry.” Hajime looked at the plaid of Nagito’s pants, squeezing his hand. “It was just a genuine, honest question. I think no differently of you than I did before. If anything, haha…” The brunet tilted his head; it was his turn for his cheeks to dust pink. “It made me realize that I might be attracted to you? Just a little?”
Nagito’s tired eyes were wide as he looked Hajime over in disbelief, mouth hung open slightly. His hand was still held by the other, and in a move of nervous longing, the luckster intertwined their fingers. His heart panged when Hajime didn’t pull away, rather squeezing his hand tighter.
“What…?” He finally spoke. He seemed a little hurt, but only because he felt that Hajime was wasting his time on someone like him. “Why?”
“Why not?” Hajime countered mindlessly. “You’re gentle, you’re sweet, you’re pretty…” He looked to the ceiling, sucking in a deep breath before he continued. “You always spend time with me even though you could spend time with the others. You deal with my insistence that you take care of yourself better and you actually do if I push you hard enough. You put up with my temper and my issues with geometry.” He stifled a giggle out of the other, which he took to be a good sign. He smiled himself, chuckling. “What the fuck is a dodecahedron?”
Nagito began to laugh, eyes slightly hidden behind the apples of his cheeks as he smiled, and Hajime’s cheeks burned lightly. The paler man put his metal hand overtop Hajime’s that he held in his organic one, squeezing carefully with the prosthetic.
“Okay, okay, Hinata-kun,” His skin was flushed beautifully. “I… didn’t realize you had feelings as well.”
He actually didn’t openly admit to having feelings until now. I had just put two and two together.
“I don’t think I realized either,” Hajime admitted, “because I thought you were straight.”
“Huh?” Nagito was shocked again, but for an entirely different reason. “Really?”
“Yeah. I always thought you were pretty, but I don’t think I let myself get fixated on it for too long because I didn’t want to catch feelings for someone I didn’t have a chance with. Nobody else on this island compares to you.”
Nagito was flattered–he instinctively wanted to argue, but his mind trailed back to Hajime trying to get him to talk better about himself. He thought it was ironic that he’d considered Hajime the unreachable one; the idea that Hajime thought the same thing about him seemed insane.
Though not impossible, apparently, he supposed.
The white-haired man let Hajime’s hand go, pulling back and chuckling lightly. “What luck… I wonder what bad luck will follow this?” He looked up at the other, wiping his cheek again. “Hinata-kun thinking I’m pretty… I really am lucky.”
Hajime knew there was a compliment in there somewhere, but he made the decision to brush it off to focus on reassurance instead. “Enough with your luck; can’t you allow yourself to be happy, Nagito?” The brunet brushed some of the white hair behind his ear. “You and I both know that our luck counters the other. Our luck is forfeit as long as we’re close. Nothing bad could follow this because I cancel you out.”
Boldly, Hajime reached out to hold Nagito’s chin, pressing a soft kiss to his forehead. “You deserve to be happy, so you should be.”
The luckster nearly melted, giggling and hugging himself in reaction. Hajime chuckled tiredly, pleased that the other no longer seemed bothered by the earlier events. Seeing Nagito genuinely smile made him feel butterflies; he was truly gorgeous. The prettiest boy he’d ever seen.
Hajime rubbed one of his eyes in fatigue. “So? What do you think?”
Nagito sighed in content, splaying his hands across his knees with a small grin on his face. Ultimately, he looked up, gaze gentle and genuine.
“If you mean this, Hinata-kun, and you truly wish to take me on a date–” Nagito smiled and Hajime’s heart melted, “–then I’d love to.”
The brunet broke out into a grin, feeling giddy like a high schooler. “Great!”
“Great!” Nagito echoed, nervous now for an entirely different reason.
“Then! I should go!” Hajime stood, and Nagito nodded in understanding, nodding too. “I don’t want to keep you up! Sorry to bother!”
“You aren’t bothering me, Hinata-kun,” Nagito chuckled, smiling behind his hand, “You can come to me any time. Isn’t that what best friends are for?”
“Hahaha! Yeah!” Hajime heard Izuru taunting him in the back of his mind for being so awkward. What happened here? You’ve lost your composure. He made his way to the door and opened it. “So–I’ll see you tomorrow at breakfast. Yeah?”
The luckster nodded, smiling with his teeth as Hajime drifted out onto the dock again. “Yes, I’ll be there.”
“Okay! Cool! Goodnight, Nagito!”
Nagito’s eyes were warm as he cracked the door. “Goodnight, Hinata-kun. Sleep well.”
The first thing Hajime did when he got back to his cottage was hit his back against the door and let out a loud groan, sliding down onto the floor.
What the hell was that?
Why had he suddenly gotten so nervous? Nagito seemed to be fine. Everything went swimmingly. Nagito felt better and he’d scored a date. They were going on a date. He was going on a date with the gorgeous, elusive Nagito Komaeda.
Oh… my god.
He couldn’t believe he’d actually done that. He wasn’t one to act on impulse very often.
But don’t you feel better now? Nagito certainly does.
Izuru could be a pain sometimes, but Hajime could be thankful for him every so often.
He’d climbed back into bed and slept like a baby. He had no idea what they were going to do on their date, but he felt like a teenager again as he dreamt of wispy white hair and pink-dusted cheeks.

Pokemon HC - Valentine’s Day
So for my first installment of headcanons for this fandom, I’ve decided to touch on the upcoming holiday.  When doing headcanons, I will do a variety of characters.  Some may be longer than others.  If not a direct request, I will normally use a randomizer.  I have a list of 100+ game characters.  When I do these without a specific characters in mind, who knows who we will get!  So let’s get into it.
WARNING: There will be some game spoilers.  Sorry.
The first headcanons will be done for Sabrina, Cress, Sonia, Iris, Gordie, Lillie, Cyrus, Barry, Brawley, and Wikstrom.
Sabrina
Surprising Sabrina is incredibly difficult.  Between multiple psychic abilities, she’s able to always tell what you are up to.  After a while, you’ve realized the best thing to do is to not think about it.  If you have no expectation of what is about to happen, she can’t figure out the future as quickly as you can change it.  So, you take her on a date.  She was already ready when you got to her.  That much she was able to predict.  When you pull out a coin, she’s confused.  You flip the coin to decide to go left or right while navigating through Saffron City.  You end up at a random restaurant.  You flip the coin to decide drinks and food.  After that, you wander the city with your magic coin that keeps throwing her off.  Sabrina has an amazing time, and she eventually stops trying to see what the coin is going to do and just goes with the flow.  She doesn’t often like surprises, but this was enjoyable.  She is very thankful that she has you in her life.
Cress
Valentine’s Day is always a big deal for Cress.  The main focus of the day is a nice meal between two people.  He has a major debate with his brothers about whether he should take you out or cook for you himself.  It was a heated debate that lasted longer and gotten louder than it ever should have.  In the end, it was decided that he would take you out.  He took you to Castelia City.  He pulled strings to get you into one of the nicest restaurants in the city at the top of a tall building.  The table had a nice ambiance of candles and scattered rose petals.  He arranged to have a person playing the violin for the two of you as you enjoyed a nice meal.  After dinner, he arranged for a carriage ride to the pier where you took a boat ride to get a view at the city from afar.  It was beautiful.  Then, he took you home.  He kissed your hand before watching you walk inside.  When he got back home to his brothers, he got to tell them how they were right in suggesting he take you out and enjoy a night with you.
Sonia
With Sonia, it’s up to you to plan the date.  She’s far too preoccupied with her work.  She hardly realized the months had changed.  With her new title and training a new assistant, she remained pretty busy.  On Valentine’s Day, you take her out to a spa date in Motostoke.  A couple’s massage, mani-pedi’s together, facials, and hair styling.  The whole shebang.  After that, the two of you went shopping.  You pick out an outift for each other to wear for dinner that night.  You change at the hotel room you book for the two of you.  You wanted to make sure she got away from the lab for an entire day.  There was no excuse to go back.  The two of you have a nice dinner out.  On the way back, you pick up a bunch of snacks and candies.  You head back to the hotel and binge out on your treats and rom-coms playing on the television.  The next morning on the train ride back to Wedgehurst, she thanks you for the amazing day and knowing what she really needs.
Iris
Neither you nor Iris are fans of the idea of a mushy-gushy date day.  The two of you had talked about ignoring the holiday altogether.  However, it was decided that you would use it as an excuse for her to get out of her champion duties for the day.  You went to Nimbasa and played around at the amusement park all day.  You rode rides, ate snacks, played games, and just enjoyed each other’s company.  She stayed so busy and focused on training her pokemon and other champion duties that you two rarely got this time out together to just be young and in love.  When the night fell, the two of you got to watch the fireworks.  You look over at her.  The bright explosions reflecting in her dark eyes was absolutely beautiful, and you couldn’t look away.  She looks over at you and smiles.  It was rare that you got to see Iris have such a soft moment.  You were very thankful that you took advantage of the day together.
Gordie
You and Gordie had known each other for a while.  It was always a nice friendship.  He was cute, and you really liked him.  However, he was gym leader now, and there were plenty of fans fawning over him.  You didn’t want to embarrass yourself by asking him out.  So, when he made his way through a crowd of fans with a yellow rose over to you and asked if you would be his valentine, you almost cried.  It was amazing.  He picked you up on Valentine’s Day and was an absolute mess when he saw how amazing you looked.  He handed you a box of chocolates and a plush of your favorite pokemon.  The two of you went ice skating first.  He was pretty talented and was showing off for you.  After skating, he took you back to his house for dinner to meet his family for dinner.  His mother took plenty of pictures and made an amazing dinner.  You played a couple rounds of a dancing video game while enjoying conversations and hot cocoa.  At the end of the night, he walked you back home.  He told you that if you were sturdy enough to withstand the avalanche that is his family that he knew he wanted to keep doing this.  At your door, you shared a kissed before you retreated away to reflect on the amazing night.
Lillie
You asked Lillie out for Valentine’s Day, and she practically passed out.  You liked her and had liked her for a while, but you knew she took a while to come around to anyone.  An innocent date on the day for dates seemed safe enough to ask her.  She was able to agree, but her mother demanded that the date happen at the Aether Foundation.  So, you took a ferry to the Aether Paradise on the day.  You were greeted with skeptical looks from everyone.  Gladion sulked around with glare the entire time.  The only person who didn’t treat you any differently was Wicke.  You were thankful for her.  You had dinner with Lusamine and Gladion.  It was a very awkward dinner.  Afterwards, the two of you went for a walk through the conservation area.  You were able to play with some of the pokemon.  You took a couple pictures with Lillie.  You taught her a silly dance that you saw on the internet.  She smiled a lot more than normal.  She enjoyed your company.  At the end of the night, she hugged you and thanked you for her first date.  You asked her if she’d be interested in more.  She nodded.
Cyrus
It was a bad day for him.  You could always tell when he seemed off.  You had a big date planned for the night.  It was a mostly private event, but you could tell that he didn’t want to get out.  He was in his head.  He was upset.  Instead, you went out and got a few things from the store.  You made soup.  Soup always calmed him down.  You bought a new blanket that was big enough for the two of you to cuddle with.  You washed it with the new lavender detergent.  You went all around the base and collected blankets, sheets, and pillows from everyone.  When anyone wanted to fight you, you told them it was for the boss, and they were more willing to part with their items.  You built a fort in your room.  You bought fairy lights to hang up inside the fort.  You plugged in your laptop and put on his favorite movie.  You brought him into the fort, you brought him his bowl of soup, and you draped the blanket over the two of you.  “The world out there is terrible and cruel, but this is a new world that’s all our own,” you told him, kissing his cheek.  He smiled slightly as he took a bite of soup and watched the movie with you.  As you laid down, he thanked you and reminded you how much he appreciated your existence.
Barry
This wasn’t a date.  This was two people who didn’t realized what day it was.  You spent the whole day playing your favorite game.  You two would spot a pokemon and compete about who was quick enough to catch it before the other.  You both caught about six pokemon each.  The tie-breaker ran away, and you two were way too hungry to be able to catch it.  You made your way back to town and decided to hit up a restaurant that you frequented at when you were around.  You were both a little blown way by all the hearts and couples everywhere.  They were all dressed up.  You two were covered in grass stains, twigs, and dirt.  You decided to leave that place and hit up a burger joint instead.  You got some food and talked about life.  You told him about your dream date, and he laughed and said that if you beat him to the pokemon center that he would take you on it next Valentine’s Day.  You asked him what he would get if he won.  He told you that you would would have to go out on a date with him sooner than that.  Before any other words were said, the two of you started sprinting through the city streets.  You’ll never admit it, but you let him win.
Brawley
You were excited when Brawley asked you out for Valentine’s Day.  It was going to be the best day.  You expected a date where you would go surfing or do some other active event.  Exploring the cave on the island or attending the Lovers’ Bonfire on the beach?  You were looking forward to it.  You answered the door in very casual clothes, and you were taken aback by his formal attire.  You don’t ever recall seeing him wear a tie ever in your life.  You invited him inside as you changed as quickly as you could.  When you were finally ready in more formal attire, you found him playing with your pokemon and having the best time.  He took you to his house.  He had a dinner set up.  He hired a friend who was a chef to cook for you guys.  There was a candle lit table outside.  You could see the Lovers’ Bonfire across down the beach a bit.  Brawley admitted that he wanted to spend this time getting to know you in his comfort zone.  He was a publicly known as a cool guy, but he never really shared his personal feelings openly.  So, instead of spending a night out with the world, you joined Brawley in his.  You talked for hours about his life and opinions.  He played music and you two danced by yourself while you told him about your hobbies and goals.  It was truly a magical night.
Wikstrom
Wikstrom is an intimidating man to most people, but it was you that intimidated him when you invited him out for Valentine’s Day.  He even blushed, but you would never tell anyone that.  It was your secret.  He came out to visit you in your city for the date.  He looked dapper.  Much more relaxed than he normally did.  You took his hand and let him around your town.  You took him around to show him your favorite places.  He is pleased to hear about your history.  He really enjoys it.  You bring him back to your place.  Instead of going out to dinner, you have all the ingredients to make everything.  He’s unsurprisingly good at chopping up all the veggies and the meat.  You two have a good time cooking.  Sitting down to enjoy a meal you made together felt successful.  At the end of the night, you agree that you’ll have to go visit him soon.  He seems excited to hear that you want to see him again.  You kiss his cheek at the door before closing it.  It takes him a second to come back to earth and figure out how to function again.

It’s Daniel Vara time!!! Aren’t you excited to read over 1300 words about Chloe’s dad, an NPC with little to no bearing on the plot?
Daniel was the baby of his family. With six older siblings (four sisters and two brothers) and a soft heart, he was the cute one.
Even though he had no aptitude or interest in school, Daniel was his father’s favorite. He got away with everything, much to the chagrin of his older siblings. It wasn’t that he was a badly behaved kid, but tiny Daniel just about always got his way.
His parents were deeply, obnoxiously in love. It would have been stifling if he had not been so used to it.
Daniel’s dad was the weird one in his family. He’s very keen on being a part of the community in England, even if it’s at the expense of his culture and extended family values. He loves his youngest son so, so much, and will willingly bicker with anyone who gives him a hard time, even in his old age.
Daniel got along much better with girls than boys as a child, and was teased by his schoolmates growing up for that.
Daniel’s parents wanted their children to assimilate, so the children did not grow up learning Gujarati language. To the frustration of the kids, the parents used the language as a secret code so they could talk right in front of their children without being understood. Daniel can hold a staggered conversation in the language, but Chloe only learned a few phrases.
Daniel loved cooking with his mother, and soaked up all of the family recipes and seasoning blends. He and his siblings closer to his age would flood the kitchen, and created new family recipes. Food was the only real connection that the family was readily allowed of Indian culture (apparently there was some sort of incident with English hand pies that Daniel’s mother doesn’t like to talk about).
Daniel never settled firmly on a career (and made a muck out of the apprenticeship he did get), but has been working ever since he was thirteen in one way or another. While he’s a bus driver now, he’s done everything from telemarketing, line cooking, and retail. He liked cooking the best, but the jobs he got didn’t pay as well. He tried starting up a business with spice blends from home for a time before Chloe was born, but it failed.
Here is a fun list of all of Daniel’s siblings in birth order: Ajay, Sonia, Erica, Rachel, Ethan, Danielle.
Out of his siblings, Daniel is closest with his sister Danielle. They were born less than eleven months apart, and have a running joke that they were supposed to be twins. Danielle was nicknamed Dani pretty quickly, and Daniel did not like being called “Dan,” so a full first name business stuck.
Apart from Dani, Daniel gets along best with the other siblings closest to his age- Ethan and Rachel. The older three are more distant, and were raised in a stricter environment. Those younger four are particularly food-motivated.
Sonia passed away about seven years ago from cancer.
When he was nineteen, his parents downsized (they were spending more time visiting their older children’s homes anyway), and he decided not to move with them to the smaller place. He, Dani, and their two best female friends moved into a rundown home that was cheap but with a great location.
Calling Daniel’s first house a party house would be a misnomer, but there were always people over. Cousins, siblings, friends, occasionally favorite strangers…
Daniel wasn’t sure where exactly he met Hestia, but she was a fixture at his home starting when he was twenty. They would seize control of the television to watch television drama of varying quality, or create elaborate crafts, or have adventures in baking together. Hestia always seemed to know exactly how long the dough should be proven- even when it did not match a recipe or conventional expectations. But their friendship was great, and apparently Hestia was equally appreciative to have a friend that understood them so well but did not want anything more. He knew she was older, but never asked how much older (his best guess was maybe 8 years older than him? 10 years?)
Daniel was twenty-four years old when he came home one day for his sister to give him the weirdest judgmental look. He didn’t realize why until Hestia was sitting there with a baby. She told him that this was his baby- their baby. Daniel panicked because he had absolutely no idea how this could even be possible. When had they had anything that could possibly result in a baby!? Hestia reassured him and Dani that everything was fine, and proved to them that she was indeed a Greek goddess.
Dani forced him to come up with a name for the baby on a spot. Daniel panicked, but had always sort of liked the name Chloe, so he went with it. No middle name? No middle name! He hadn’t been planning on having to name a baby! He isn’t sure if Hestia was even planning on having a baby! Everyone is too afraid to ask this question (except Danielle, who would if she particularly felt like it).
Hestia hung out for a few days and put Daniel through baby boot camp (Dani and roommate Jessica watched like it was a television programme).before leaving.
Daniel reluctantly brought over his daughter to visit his parents one day, and was pretty sure that his dad was not planning on giving her back. Daniel’s father seemed confused and upset that Daniel had managed to get some Greek lady pregnant, but also excited about having another grandchild. Also he kept threatening to raise the baby himself because how could Daniel’s household manage a child with literally no experience? Were any of those ladies even responsible??
Daniel and Danielle still live with their two best friends, and Chloe calls them Auntie Jessica and Auntie Teja. Jessica moved away for a short time while Chloe was in her early teens, but returned with her partner (Aunt) Abbie after a few years. Teja never moved away, but her husband (Uncle) Seth has been a part of the household since Chloe was eleven. Teja and Seth’s kids, Vikram and Violet, are also part of the family. Daniel wouldn’t dream of calling them anything other than nephew and niece, so they’re Chloe’s cousins. The house family thing is weird, but not that weird. They’re all family.
Daniel’s considered the “Cool Uncle.” His nieces and nephews (as well as great-nieces and and great-nephews) grew up expecting a good time when staying over and more sugar than was encouraged at their own homes. At one point, there was a rumor going around with Rachel and Erica’s kids that ‘gay’ just meant ‘cool.’ It was a whole big thing.
13 year old Vik used to follow around Daniel like a duckling. He thinks it’s cute, and they cook together (Teja and Seth aren’t allowed in the kitchen).
Daniel’s had a very bad string of relationships. Before Chloe moved to Icaria, he’s had guys try to get him to choose between them and Chloe, and that’s grounds for dumping. While it’s certainly not the life he envisioned, Daniel has a family (both by birth and friendship) that he adores. He misses his daughter so much, and tries to talk to her every day.
He’s a really emotional guy- less volatile in his feelings than Chloe, but he’s not good at hiding how he is feeling either. Dani likes to make fun of his exaggerated facial expressions.
Daniel may or may not be seeing someone good for once. While Chloe knows he’s dating, she doesn’t usually want the details unless it’s serious… and this one is starting to get there. It feels right and good.
Daniel will absolutely text Chloe’s friends if they want to. He doesn’t think it’s weird at all to have friends of different ages as long as he’s mindful that they’re Chloe’s friends first and not make things weird/creepy/too personal.

Red Butterflies - chapter 4
Yeah I know no one’s reading this from here and honestly idc I’m posting for myself
Read on AO3
The room was brightly lit, and Chiaki winced as she opened her eyes. She wasn’t sure where she was, or why she was there, but she didn’t feel endangered. She felt oddly tired, though; as if something draining had happened a few moments ago. She rubbed her eyes and yawned before looking around the room. Ah, I’m in the nurse’s office, she thought. A blue-haired woman was across from her, sitting in a wheelchair, seemingly focused on the screen in front of her. Chiaki had never seen her before, but she assumed that she was just another member of the academy’s staff. Maybe another nurse? No, that’s impossible, I would have seen her with Tsmumiki-san before if she were. But this is the nurse’s office, so she has to be some sort of medical professional.
“N-nanami-san, you’re a-awake… I’m so g-glad, really…” Hearing the Ultimate Nurse’s voice, Chiaki turned to her.
“Why am I here?”
Chiaki heard a buzzing sound as she asked the question. She looked up and realized that the other person was moving towards her. A few seconds later, a bunny appeared on the wheelchair’s screen and started talking:
“Sakakura-kun brought you here. He had something to do with the headmaster and couldn’t wait until you woke up, so I thought I’d give Tsumiki-chan a hand.” The artificial voice was cheerful, and Chiaki felt somewhat relieved. Nothing bad seemed to have happened to her. Despite that, confusion quickly took over.
“Sakakura-san brought me here?” she questioned, almost doubting what she had just heard.
“You don’t remember?”
Chiaki sat up, trying to remember what she had done today. She remembered sleeping through her alarm and having to rush to class. She had skipped breakfast so she felt hungry when she arrived, but Hanamura-kun had brought snacks – well, calling Hanamura-kun’s cooking snacks was a bit of an insult to it – so that was solved pretty quickly. Her classes had gone by as normally as classes could go at Hope’s Peak academy, and she’d spent most of her time with Sonia-san. Then the bell rang, and she waved everyone goodbye and rushed back to her dorm because she wanted to play games and that’s when she – Oh, that’s right. I bumped into Sakakura-san and he asked me about my hairpin. Afterwards everything went blurry and I felt dizzy because—
“Nanami-chan, you’re quite pale. Is everything alright?”
“Yes, I’m fine… I think?” Chiaki pressed her face into her palms, wincing again. She remembered what had happened, but she didn’t understand why it had affected her that much. She wasn’t going to lie to herself and pretend like forgetting Hinata-kun was as easy as she had assumed it would be, but to faint just because she had been reminded of their first encounter? She thought that was an extreme reaction, even for her; it was something she’d only seen in games. She had no idea it could happen in the real world.
“You think?”
“Ah, yes. I was just remembering what happened when I fainted, that’s all. I’m really okay,” she paused for a moment, wondering why this unknown person seemed to care so much about her. There was no reason for her, or Sakakura-san, to be so interested in her. This all was coming out of nowhere, and Chiaki wasn’t comfortable with it. Something about it was odd.
“Sorry, I just realized I haven’t introduced myself yet,” the pink rabbit spoke. “I am Gekkogahara Miaya, former Ultimate Therapist. And this is Usami-chan! We’ve been working at the academy since Tengan-san resigned. Munakata-san thought it would be good for the people who were suffering from the consequences of the Tragedy. But there’s so much going on here that I end up meeting and talking to people who weren’t affected at all,” she paused. Chiaki was impressed with how fast she was typing, and how smoothly the program she was using to speak as Usami was running. “This may include you, Nanami-chan. Tsumiki-chan ran a few tests while you were still unconscious, and they showed to physiological anomaly that could explain the fact you passed out earlier. So I thought there may have been something you wanted to talk about.”
Chiaki moved her gaze from the screen to Gekkogahara-san, wondering if she could really trust her. She didn’t really want to talk to her, but she wanted to know why the higher-ups seemed to be interested in her today. She also knew that talking to Gekkogahara-san could help her find some sort of closure when it came to what she had shared with Hinata-kun. However, she wasn’t sure she was ready to share any of this, especially not by talking to a stranger. It was already hard enough for her to open to up her classmates. She couldn’t even begin to imagine how tough it would be to talk to someone she barely knew, especially knowing that they were close to the people running the academy.
“Well, you don’t have to decide now,” Usami said softly. “Here’s where to reach me in case you ever want to talk.” Gekkogahara-san handed her a piece of paper with her e-mail address on it. Chiaki grabbed it and nodded, smiling at the blue-haired woman. She still wasn’t sure how she felt about her, but she had no reason to act hostile. “I’ll see you around, Nanami-chan!”
The pink rabbit on the screen waved at her, and Gekkogahara-san quietly exited the room. Left alone with Tsumiki-san, Chiaki went to grab her coat and thank her classmate for watching over her. She didn’t need to stay here any longer. She had games to play, and a revenge to take, after all.
When she got out of the academy’s main building, the sun had finished setting, and everything was pitch black. Chiaki slowly walked towards her dorm, feeling strangely at ease. She realized that Gekkogahra-san’s presence had been oddly calming, in spite of her doubts when it came to her true intentions. Maybe she’s not so bad and I’m being overly careful, she told herself, clutching the piece of paper she had been given and feeling the cool night on her skin.
She eventually reached her dorm room, kicked off her shoes and sat on the edge of her bed. Regardless of what had happened today, she was still excited to play games against Izukura, for some reason. She grabbed her console and scrolled through the list of people who were online, only to be disappointed when she found out that the person she wanted to play with, wasn’t. They hadn’t messaged her either – though she wasn’t sure why she had even expected them to, it wasn’t like they had had a super deep conversation that suddenly made them best friends, after all – and Chiaki felt slightly bothered by it.
Today really hadn’t been her day, had it? But she wasn’t going to let it get to her. And just like that, Chiaki started playing her favorite game, Gala Omega.

Munakata-kun was furious. Juzo knew it. His friend wasn’t the most talkative person in the world, but whenever he was mad he turned completely silent. And that was exactly how he was that evening: silent. He hadn’t even glanced at him ever since he had walked in the office. The lack of words coming from either of them only added to the constant cold atmosphere of Munakata-kun’s office. As much as he enjoyed being in his company, Juzo had always disliked this office. The white walls and lack of decoration – Munakata-kun only had a framed picture of the two of them with Yuzikome-san sitting on top of his desk – along with the fact that the exposition of the room made it that the sunlight only rarely reached it, could have made anyone feel as though they were in some sort of isolated and desolate place. Munkata-kun’s white suit, hair, and piercing blue gaze didn’t help either. If they hadn’t been so close, Juzo would have definitely done anything he could to leave the office.
Suddenly, Munakata-kun’s phone started ringing. The white-haired man grabbed it, only to turn it off. Juzo was surprised. He knew it was Yukizome-san who was calling. It never was anyone else. And although things had been complicated between her and Munakata-kun, he had never ignored any of her calls. He avoided seeing her in person, no matter how hard that was considering they both worked at Hope’s Peak, but he always picked up the phone when she called him. Juzo didn’t enjoy witnessing these calls, but seeing Munakata-kun reject today’s call didn’t make him feel any better. Instead, the feeling that something was wrong only grew bigger.
“Munaka—”
“Give me at least one piece of good news, Juzo.”
He scratched the back of his head, his cheeks warming up ever so slightly at the lack of honorific and use of his first name. There had only been another instance of this: when he had reported to him about Enoshima’s actions and eventually confessed to him. Juzo knew this meant what happened today was important, even if things had gone wrong. And that made him feel worse when he realized he couldn’t give the man he loved what he wanted.
“I’m sorry, I didn’t manage to get the information you wanted,” was all Juzo managed to say. He wasn’t scared of Munakata-kun’s reaction. He was an amazing leader, and definitely not the type of person to lose their composure when things didn’t go their way. He just despised knowing that he was making him disappointed over and over again. The only time he had done something right by him was when he told him the truth about Enoshima, and even that hadn’t been a complete victory. At times like these, Juzo wondered what would have happened if he had decided to tell him that she was innocent.
“This isn’t good,” Munakata-kun sighed, pulling the chair towards him and sitting down. “Nothing went right today. At least Kamukura-kun hasn’t tried to escape… Yet.”
“What happened?” Juzo raised an eyebrow, confused.
“I did exactly what Gekkogahara-san told me not to. At first he was cooperating, but then Nanami-san wasn’t online, and he refused to do anything. I don’t understand much about the medical files regarding the Kamukura project, but he isn’t supposed to remember anything from his life as Hajime Hinata so I can’t fathom why he would shun me because he can’t play or interact with this girl.”
“Maybe he needs a reminder of what happened to Enoshima. It’s been months, after all.”
“He’s too intelligent to not know what he risks if he doesn’t do as told. He has every single talent you can think of.”
“Then he fell back into des—”
“Enough, Juzo. Kamukura-kun is completely different from Enoshima. You and I both know that although she didn’t seem to care about many things, she was entirely obsessed with despair. Actually, you should know this better than I do. She almost got to you, remember? Kamukura-kun doesn’t care about anything at all. Not despair. Not hope. He knows everything. He can do anything. So everything is boring to him. And yet, he seemed to care about Nanami-san.”
“Do you think it’s possible he developed a crush on her when you made him interact with her in the game’s chatroom?” Juzo knew the explanation was too simplistic, but he didn’t care. He was very well aware that Munakata-kun didn’t keep him around for his sharp observations. “You told me this morning that his vessel was apparently close to her. It’s possible that it was all it took for him to, say, reignite whatever they had.”
“Hopefully it’s as simple as that. In any case, we should monitor him all night,” Munakata-kun responded, pointing to his screen. “I don’t want to take any unnecessary risks.”
Juzo nodded, walking over to the other side of the desk. He looked at the screen that was displaying what the surveillance cameras that had been installed in Kamukura-kun’s room were recording and smiled. Maybe it was his fault if Munakata-kun’s day had been so bad, but he didn’t need to know that. He would probably tell him what he’d done tomorrow, if he asked him. For now, he just wanted to enjoy the night that was about to come, without wondering how things would have turned out if he hadn’t talked to Nanami-san today, or told everything he knew about Enoshima back when he’d had the chance to do so.

By the time Eddie was 13, he was allergic to peanuts, tree nuts, and several cooking oils. By 15, he had never swum in gym class and never went to a friend’s birthday party or had one of his own. By 16, Eddie knew that he liked looking at boys rather than looking at girls, though that didn’t seem to matter at the time. By 18, he had graduated high school and that was the end of his social life. And by 21, Eddie’s life had been torn to pieces.
He was a victim of Munchausen syndrome by proxy and now left without a mother, without a home, and without a clue. On top of being told he should go to group therapy, his caseworker had also suggested doing something to blow off some steam. Join a book club or go to the gym. Or maybe join a need-to-know based fight club. Either or.
Chapters one, two, three
As it turned out, Eddie didn’t have much to lose after all.
He tried to think of a couple of things that would make it into a good excuse not to go to the gym, but he kept coming up empty. He did need to start working out and getting healthy. Sure, his mom pumped him up with supplements and protein, but that didn’t make him healthy. He was walking everywhere nowadays, so his legs were getting a good hit, but what about his arms?
Sure, he had to carry the heavy boxes at the store and lifted a few of them while restocking, but he knew he could do better. It wasn’t like he was getting thrown into the ring after all. He would hit a few machines and lift a few weights. Nothing worth bragging about.
After coming home from work, he hung around the house for a little bit, having nothing else really to do. Ben and Beverly were going to see a movie and while they had invited him to tag along, he declined, claiming he had something he had to take care of. The two had done everything they could to not make him feel like he was the third wheel, but sometimes two people just needed to be alone, whether they were a couple or not.
Mrs. Hanscom was working late, so he had the house to himself for a little while. He lasted about twenty minutes before he threw in the towel and changed from his work shirt and jeans into a plain tee-shirt and shorts. He locked the door behind him and made his way into town, down Main street and up to the gym.
He looked through the window, finding it somewhat empty for the night. He guessed even gym rats had something else to do on a Friday night. There were only a couple of guys inside and after a few minutes of just standing there, he finally entered.
Richie was off in the morning, doing a handful of genetic stretches on the mat. Eddie didn’t want to think of how often, or lack thereof, the mat was wiped down just like the rest of the machines.
Eddie liked to keep it clean, as it was something they would do every week back when he was living with his mother. Sonia Kaspbrak wasn’t one with OCD, but it was a chance for them to bond together. Wiping everything down with Lysol was a great way to get rid of any common germs and Eddie had learned from a very early age how to disinfect and keep order.
“Eds!” Richie called out upon spotting him.
“It’s Eddie.” He retorted, already wondering if he had made the right decision.
“Eds is short for Eddie.”
“And Eddie is already short for Edward.”
“Richie is short for Richard. Wanna know something even shorter?”
“If you say your dick, I’m leaving.”
Richie gasped, placing his hand over his chest as he faked shock and dismay. “Edward! How could you? Why would I ever lie about my penis like that?”
“Beep, Beep, Richie.” Eddie stared at him, blank and unimpressed. “Can we get this over with?”
“Don’t sound so depressed, Eds. You’re spending your night with a certified hottie.” Adjusting his headband, he brought Eddie over to the machine. He gave a quick rundown of what it was called and how to use it. “This is a rower. Like a boat, all right? Hold onto that, keep your legs straight, you’re gonna lean back and well, row.”
“Doesn’t sound too bad.”
Richie chuckled, slapping his shoulder before adjusting the weight.
The machine turned out to be a nightmare as it required a hell of a lot more muscles than Eddie thought he was capable of using. Even in a lighter setting, he felt like he was straining himself just to be able to keep up. He did a couple of sets or reps, whatever Richie called them before Richie moved him onto the next machine.
He hadn’t brought water or anything to keep him hydrated so he had to stick with the tiny paper cups from the water cooler in the corner. He tried not to think about how many times that water was changed out. He was too parched to taste the bland, staleness of old water.
When the first hour passed they took a small break. They sat against the mirrors, watching the other guys who came to work out do their sets. “So, any chance of you becoming a gym rat like the rest of us?” Richie asked him, resting his chin on his bent knees.
Eddie was very doubtful that he’d ever willingly want to work out. Ever would willingly want to sweat into his clothes and strain his muscles until he was left tired and aching.
He remembered his mother shaking her head whenever the Olympics would come around and they’d sit by the television and watch all the competitions. Sonia would comment about how they would work so hard just for one chance at winning.
“All of that hard work for nothing,” she would comment whenever they lost. Eddie, the innocent one, who always tried to be optimistic, reminded her about the winners. “They might have won but how long will that last? Trust me, Eddie-Bear. They will lose that shapely body soon enough and get addicted to opioids just like every other former star.”
She turned the television off after that. Very rarely did they watch anything that contained athletes or anything other than game shows and children’s programming. It’s a mystery Eddie turned out even half okay after having a woman like that as his only companion for so long.
He wondered what his mother would be thinking if she knew where he was. If she knew her precious little boy was sweating and working out on machines that hadn’t been cleaned and drinking water almost from the tap.
“How much is it?” Eddie questioned, deciding to throw caution to the wind.
It wound up only costing Eddie fifteen bucks a month to join. He found that to be pretty decent on account of it being a small private gym.
A small group of women came in and greeted Richie as Eddie was signing up. They flashed their teeth at him and Richie commented, calling them pearly white and magnificent. Eddie brushes his teeth every morning and every night, always flossing in between and using that terrible tasting mouthwash whenever he could. Dental hygiene was important and taking care of his mouth was one thing Eddie took pride in even after leaving his mother’s house.
Once his membership was started, Eddie hung around for a few minutes after, using the hand weights that were in the corner. He found himself watching as Richie went around the room, helping out those who needed it. He had a way about him that even if you had just met him, he’d find a way to get under your skin. Whether or not it was in a good way all depended on Richie but that was his style.
They left together after another half hour. Eddie was tired and he knew he would be sore in the morning.
“Now that you joined maybe we could become gym buddies?” Richie had suggested, playfully bumping their shoulders together as they walked down the street.
They did become gym buddies, much to Eddie’s dismay. His body aches for days after the first trip and he had become very comfortable with standing in the freezers of the grocery store on days when he felt extra sore.
Richie didn’t go easy on him but he also knew not to test his limits. They found a routine that worked for them both and on days when Richie couldn’t make it or their schedules just couldn’t line up, Ben and Beverly were more than happy to tag along with him.
It may not have been his intention of becoming a gym rat but he found himself going two to three times a week. Any night when he wasn’t in the mood to just sit back and watch tv or read a book or do a puzzle.
He also went out to the farm to watch a fight now and then. He still didn’t understand it that much, the rapid appeal of going head to head with another person, but it was another excuse to get out of the house and socialize.
Eddie found himself doing a lot of things he wouldn’t have thought he would do before coming. He was eating new foods all the time, trying different things.
He was making his own choices, going out to buy his clothes with Beverly in tow. She didn’t choose anything for him but gave her the best intel since she had a thing for fashion.
He found his sense of style for the first time. He found his sense of reality for the first time. Making his own choices and doing things he wanted to do without worrying if he would get in trouble or he would make his mommy angry.
It hadn’t been what Eddie expected when he first arrived in Bangor. Trying to move on from the life he once lived wasn’t easy but the alternative wasn’t much better.
He had spoken up about it during one of the group meetings. He was half listening, not even sure what the topic was but nobody else commented. It was obvious the director was feeling a bit dejected and thought well, why not?
“We try to find a middle ground. Between the life, we lived before breaking away and the life we’ve been thrown into now that we're out of that situation. It’s not easy. May not even be possible but, it’s worth trying right?”
“That’s right, Mr. Kaspbrak. That’s exactly right.”
“Look at you making an impression in the group,” Beverly mentioned as they left.
Eddie didn’t want a pat on the back for coming up with something that made sense or for just being honest. He knew everybody had been through something similar and he wasn’t going to pretend like he had done or said anything poetic. If they didn’t find something to hold onto, something to shape their life around, then what was the point of having a life, to begin with?
“Are you seeing Richie tonight?” Beverly asked.
He was but not for the gym. The old theatre was playing some old-time movies and Richie thought it would be good for Eddie to see them. He had blown a gasket when he found out Eddie hadn’t seen Titanic and Back to the Future so they had begun to have designated movie nights.
Sometimes they would invite Ben and Beverly and on other nights it would be a rude group thing. The sorry lot of Bangor Maine had welcomed Eddie in without a second thought and they planned on spending the remaining days of their summer before Bill and Stan went back to school out of state enjoying every part of this.
They had shown him all different types of movies, from black and white classics to modern horror. They were widening his horizon film-wise and he found that it was a great way to spend his night.
On this particular night, it was just Richie and himself, watching the classic film Singin’ in the Rain. Richie insisted he wasn’t a dancer in any way but he has a passion for Gene Kelly and Donald O’Connor.
The movie itself was rather grand and Eddie wondered why his mother hadn’t allowed him to watch it. Perhaps the dancing ladies were a bit too much but he found it to be enjoyable.
They found their way to the diner afterward, sitting in the far corner away from sight. Richie ordered waffles even though it was nearly eleven pm, asking for syrup, and whipped cream, and peanut butter all on top.
Richie was rambling on about the film they had just seen and then suggesting a few others along the way. “I certainly can’t believe you’ve never seen Star Wars man. Not even like on tv or something during the holidays?”
“I wasn’t given a lot of screen time, Rich.” Eddie reminded him.
He had opened up to Richie slowly over the weeks of them knowing each other. Ben hadn’t said much about his predicament other than his mother was overly protected and shielded him from the world. Eddie had been the one to tell Richie just how bad it had been in between their weekly gym meetups and regular hangouts.
Richie took it in stride, never once showing that he felt sorry for Eddie. He treated him just like every other person, apologizing only when a “your mom” joke slipped through his lips because old habits were hard to break.
“Seriously, dude. We’re watching it. You’re gonna come over to my place and I’m making you sit through it all.”
“Aren’t there like, six of them?”
“Technically nine bit the prequels aren't that important unless you want backstory and the newer ones are garbage. An only good thing to come out of them is the eye candy.” He placed his hand dramatically over his chest. “Oscar Isaac? Oh, be still my beating vagina.”
The waitress came over then, placing their food down between them.
“Did you just quote Mamma Mia 2?”
Richie slammed his fist down on the table, something that the waitress seemed completely unfazed by. “You haven’t seen Star Wars but you’ve seen Mamma Mia 2?!”
“And the first one. Mrs. Hanscom showed them to me.”
“You, Edward, have hurt me today. I don’t know how I’m gonna cope.” He announced and then proceeds to dig into his waffle.
Eddie ate his food, which consists of a simple grilled cheese. They had gotten popcorn at the theatre and he didn’t want to start pigging out just because he was working out more. He watched Richie gorge himself on the sloppy, crunchy waffle and found himself realizing he had never eaten a normal pancake or waffle.
Everything had been gluten-free, sugar-free. He never tried whipped cream or peanut butter. Due to his birthday being around the time of thanksgiving his mom would make him a fruit cake or sometimes a gelatin cake. He didn’t even know what real birthday cake tasted like.
“Can I ask you a weird question?” He asked suddenly. “Can I have a bite?”
“A bite?” Richie asked, his mouth still full from his bite.
“I’ve never had a waffle. I’ve never had peanut butter.”
Richie swallowed hard, shaking his head in despair. “Fuck, Eds. Your mom messed you up good, didn’t she?” He slid the plate over, knowing better than offering Eddie his fork to eat off of. “Knock yourself off.”
Eddie grabbed his fork and knife to cut off a small piece. It looked soggy and heavy, completely covered in the sticky substances. He took the bite slowly, chewing it down carefully. It was hard to describe; the ooey-gooey, nutty flavor mixed with the maple of the syrup and the creaminess of the whipped cream.
Richie was watching him intensely, ready to jump into action in the rare chance his mom wasn’t lying and he needed to inject him with an EpiPen just in case.
“Well?” He asked after a moment.
“Holy shit,” Eddie replied.
“Is that a good holy shit or bad holy shit?”
“A very good holy shit. Holy shit!”
“I know right? Delicious.”
“Disgustingly delicious.”
“Do you want your own?” Richie asked, already half turning down he could get their waitresses' attention.
“No.” Eddie decided. “I want Reece’s cup.”
“Yeah? We can get you one of those.”
And they did. After leaving the diner they went down to the nearest 7/11 and bought Eddie Reece’s cup and other assortments of candy that he had been deprived of his entire life.
They spent the rest of the night driving around, eating candy, and just laughing about the stupid shit going on in their town. It was nearly one am when Richie dropped Eddie off at home.
“Can I ask you something?”
“Shoot Spaghetti,” Richie asked, shifting in the darkness of the car. He turned on the lights above them, giving them a chance to see one another.
“Why do you think Ben and Beverly aren’t together?” He asked carefully. “It’s obvious they like one another. Even I can see that.”
“You’re not the only one,” Richie chuckled dryly. “I think they’re scared. They don’t wanna lose what they had, you know? Good friendships are hard to come by.”
“What would you do?”
“In their situation?” Richie shifted once more, turning his body slightly, uncomfortable against the restraints of the seatbelt. “Oh boy. Well. Hmm.”
He laughed again, awkward this time around. He looked to Eddie, reaching up to adjust his glasses slightly.
“You kind of told me your own sob story, so I guess it’s only fair I tell you to mind.” He admitted, turning his face so he looked at Eddie somewhat properly. “Look. You know I’m gay right?” He asked then.
Eddie had more or less guessed it along the way. Richie had been very upfront with the flirting, but he also was like that with people of all sexes. Very open and bubbly. Eddie found it somewhat off-putting in the beginning. Eddie, who was so somber and quiet, who had been trained and conditioned to be this quiet, gentle soul like his mother wanted him to be was a very large contrast to Richie’s outwardly and blunt personality.
He had grown used to it over time, thanks to the spare chances they had been given to be around one another. It was still a lot for Eddie to get used to, but after the endless comments about certain male celebrities, it led Eddie to believe Richie leaned more towards one side than the other.
“I don’t make it very subtle,” Richie admitted, another quiet laugh slipping through his lips.
“Back when I was in high school, there was this guy. His name was Connor. We met at the arcade and we sort of . . . we became friends. Like, fast friends. And like Bev and Ben, we spent all our time together. Anyway, I sort of always knew I liked Han more than Leia, so it didn’t take long for me to become head over heels for him. We wound up going to prom together as friends. We hung around the bleachers and all I kept thinking about was wanting to dance with him, you know? Not even just slow dance but just get out there and move our bodies. To just dance with another guy! Later on, we went outside to smoke and on the way back in I stopped him. I just looked at him and couldn’t stop myself. I kissed him there in the hallway. And you know, for a split second I could have sworn he kissed me back.”
“But he didn’t?”
Richie shook his head, his tongue slipping across his dry lips nervously. “Someone spotted us. Soon everybody was gathering in the hallway to see what the queers were doing. He pushed me away and a fight started. He tried to choke me right there, surrounded by everybody until the teachers pulled him off me. He said some not so nice things.”
“What happened after?”
“I had to survive without my best friend. And I guess I didn’t know-how. Being called a faggot is one thing, but hearing how sick you are. Knowing the one person you care about most in the world thought you were better off dead. It’s hard to imagine otherwise. I decided to prove him right.”
“Rich….”
“That’s how I wound up at the gym. After tossing myself off a bridge and living to tell the tale, my parents put me through all sorts of therapy. One of them happened to be physical. I decided after that I wasn’t going to hide anymore. I’d be the real me, whether people liked it or not. I dialed it down a bit. I was an annoying little shit who used to do voices and stuff.”
“You still do that.”
Eddie could count on both hands how many times he would slip into some character while they were working out. Eddie first thought it was a way to egg him on and give him a bit of a push but he soon realized it was just Richie’s personality.
Richie didn’t seem like the type that would have done something like that. Had put himself in harm's way because of the sadness he kept. Eddie knew that it was something of a well-known fact. That some of the cheeriest people can be so dead inside. That the loudest voice could be the quietest call for help.
It made Eddie angry to know that someone Richie had held so dearly could treat him so badly. Could have turned on him for his issues. It didn’t make sense to him and all he could think about was wanting to know why.
“Thank you for telling me this,” Eddie told him.
Richie adjusted his glasses again, putting on a far genuine smile as he glanced back over to him. “So now that you know my villain origin story can I ask something about you?”
“Shoot.”
“What would you do?”
Eddie didn’t have an answer. It could have been easy to say just go for it but the reality was Eddie didn’t know if he would even make that leap. He got out of the car then, shrugging in response as he bid Richie a good night.
Eddie went to bed, surrounded by his sweet treats, falling asleep to the thoughts of Richie’s laughter and wondering what he would do in that position.
