I do think it would be interesting to explore the possibility of Elphaba being touched by internalized homophobia because there is one point in the book that she, notoriously dry-eyed, cries, and it’s after it’s brought up she isn’t married (she says she’s married, just not to a man), and she pushes fiyero away, saying she isn’t even a real woman. There’s clearly some spectre of societal expectation that hangs over her even in her wildness. Then she also mauls Fiyero but that’s their private business and we don’t have to discuss that.

(It’s hard to find fics like yours) and I was reading some of it and I just had a request I wanted to ask (if you don’t mind :D) okay so imagine tords father being actually affectionate with his wife (in private of course) but not just like kisses and stuff he’s LITERALLY all over his wife and is literally not afraid to drag her into the bedroom and tries to tell tord to be like that with his future wife! Okay this is a little funny to me because I'm just imagining my version of Tord except he has zero to minimal amounts of daddy issues compared to what he has in my usual timeline. So for this ask, we're delving into Tord: Healthy Family Edition. (Also I am so sorry for being dead. I'm a freshman going to college for the first time and have been adapting to everything!! You guys' support and patience means everything to me!)

So we're running off the scenario I gave in my Red Leader dating headcanons. If you haven't read that, see my General Dating Headcanons post.

If you're not interesting in reading that, which I totally understand, here's a brief summary of how Red Leader and Reader met:

Reader starts out as Red Leader's personal secretary. He's notorious for having such a horrible temper that he runs through secretaries like Sarah Boone ran through lawyers (true crime joke, sorry). However, Reader handled his temper and returned it to him tenfold, earning his respect and eventually his love.

Now, in this world, Tord actually had a healthy family life. As the ask said, his father was very openly affectionate and in love with Tord's mother when in private. With Tord and his younger sister, it was what you'd see from parents in media that were happy and in love. Open PDA, frequent dates, and compliments galore. Tord's father, as the Red Leader, would shower Tord's mother in gifts - the finest jewelry in whichever metal she preferred, luxury chocolates, trips to different countries, etc. But it wasn't always money. He spoiled her in other ways, too. Filling the house with vases of her favorite flowers. Giving her massages in the privacy of their bedroom if she was sore. Doing everything in the house on days when she's especially tired. When his mother was pregnant with Tord's younger sister, his father's already heavy spoiling was increased tenfold. Tord was old enough to perceive the world at that point, so his father made sure to hammer into his brain that when his future wife is pregnant, he needs to treat her like a goddess incarnate. Tord took that to heart.

When Tord got older - about his teenage years, maybe around when his father had "the talk" with him (he had no idea Tord didn't need "the talk" and that he had been exposed to copious amounts of hentai when he was 15) - his father started to teach Tord how he expected him to treat his future wife all the time. Of course, Tord had grown up seeing how his father lavished on his mother. But there were some parts that he didn't quite understand as a child that his father clarified. Like his mother's periods! His father taught Tord that while all periods were experienced differently, there were a few different things that generally all period-havers enjoyed. I recently saw a TikTok where a woman said "however much you're spoiling your girlfriend during her period, I want you to triple it." This is something that Tord's father would say to him.

As for bedroom happenings, Tord's parents would do what good parents should do and make sure that the kids are never exposed to that part of their lives. When they're old enough to know what sex even is, Tord wants NOTHING to do with even thinking about his parents having sex. It sends shivers down his spine. For your pleasure as the dear readers on the other side of the screen, I will just say - Tord definitely got his father's genetics <3. Tord's mother was a very content woman.

Back to present day Red Leader (Tord, not his father), there are two stages to his relationship with Reader. The first stage is when they're still dating. Well,, dating in Reader's eyes. As I said in the general headcanons, Red Leader sees dating Reader as an unneeded formality. But Reader, being sensible, still wanted to take it slow instead of jumping straight into marriage. She would continue to work as his personal secretary - its his fucking army, whose going to stop him? The HR department isn't going to say anything since they're both consenting adults and any soldier who is stupid enough to try to accuse Reader of being a gold-digger is going to be cleaning every bathroom on base for a month.

Where it differs in this timeline is that Red Leader wouldn't try to keep a professional air around you in public. He'll come up behind you and wrap his arms around your torso, resting his chin on your shoulder. It doesn't matter if you're talking to another soldier about some paperwork or some other red tape nonsense. If the soldier you're talking to has any objections, they're quickly silenced by Red Leader's piercing stare. They're not risking putting their ass on the line. If you berate him for it afterwards, Red Leader will just pout and whine like a petulant child. He was getting bored doing paperwork and just wanted to hold you, how is that a problem :( He's so protective of you and is even more open about it now. He'll give you at least one body guard if you're going somewhere without him. Makes sure that you're exempt from normal soldier duties because HIS darling should only be tending to him and that's it. He openly shows so much favoritism toward you that even if you two were trying to keep your relationship a secret, every soldier was able to see it within like a week.

Once you two are married, you don't have the option of still getting to be a soldier. Red Leader will let you have whatever hobby you want - no matter how strange, niche, or complex it is, he'll fund it just to make you happy - but you're not going to be doing ANY kind of work if he has anything to say about it. Even if you just end up sleeping through most of the day, he's perfectly content to let you nap the day away all safe and cuddled up in his luxury satin bedsheets. Shows so much PDA all the time. Doesn't matter where you are or who is there. If you're in the base and some soldiers come into Red's office for something, he'll talk to them with a straight face while you lounge on his lap doing something or other. Discussion over drinks with an ally world leader of his? He'll still have you pulled flush to his side with his arm around your waist. Out in public with cameras on you? You bet your ass he'll still pull you in for a sweet, chaste kiss or press his lips to your temple as a silent reminder that he loves you.

Took all his father's advice to heart. You are the most spoiled person on the entire planet, you think. Cleopatra would be so envious with the way that you had Red Leader falling to his knees at your feet just to make you happy. Anything you want, anything at all, he'll get it for you. There has been multiple times where you were craving something specific from a certain country and Red Leader made it his mission to fly out to that country just to get you your craving. All the same kinds of presents that he watched his father shower on his mother - he would get for you, too. Jewelry in your favorite gemstones or ones that matched your eyes. Diamonds in every form, shape, and size. Clothing made of the finest imported materials. Desserts from around the world that were made for queens. Hundreds of dollars of perfumes in your favorite scents. Anything and everything just for you.

Takes your periods very seriously. He somehow knows your cycle better than you do. Tracks it like his life depends on it. He knows that your period is coming days before you're even aware that its time. The morning it starts, he's already got everything on hand. Whatever things work best for your period. A heating pad or ice packs, a bottle of Midol, and every snack and drink that you crave. He'll have the base kitchens make bulk desserts just to have on hand for you. Ice cream is already in the freezer. You're aching or bloated? The bath is already full and has your favorite bath oils added. That metal arm does wonders to massage your aching muscles. If you need something weighted for your cramps, what better than a buff soldier to lie on top of you! (If you need any kind of release, Red Leader isn't afraid of a little blood ;3)

If you ever get pregnant? Forget ever getting up for any reason other than daily exercise that's healthy for you and the baby. Even then, you're only allowed to walk around you and Red Leader's living quarters or out in the grassy training grounds with Red Leader by your side the entire time. Other than that, you are confined to bed or couch rest at all times. You are literally growing his child every hour of the day for the next nine months. Red Leader doesn't want you even thinking of doing anything other than resting and being the amazing person that you are. He'll do everything that the base doctors said would be good for you and the baby. He makes vitamin and herbal drinks for you, gets you every craving, and makes sure you're at top health. He deals with your shifting hormones without ever making a fuss. The affection is cranked to maximum - with the gift-giving having the added bonus of baby oriented items. He was never happier than when he sat on the floor of the nursery, putting together your new IKEA crib while you researched nursery themes on Pinterest in the plush chair against the wall. Not to mention, he increased base security more than ever during those nine months. He didn't want any of his enemies even sneezing within 1,000 miles of the base without him knowing about it. Not when the love of his life was more vulnerable and fragile than ever.

Tord's father in this timeline would be proud of the man he raised. Women are a gift to this world and deserve to be treated as such. Reader is Tord's entire world and he wants her to feel like it.

Build-a-BL: Off the Market

From Aof Noppharnach and Jojo Tichakorn, comes a new show.

Night (First Kanaphan) has been struggling financially for years now, having to pay off his late mother's debts. Until one day he hears about the opportunity of a lifetime. At the upcoming local night market, there is going to be a special exhibit, featuring many priceless artifacts for display. A new job opportunity puts Night right by the artifacts. If he can manage to just grab one of the items being displayed, selling it would give him more than money to pay off the remaining debt and set up a new and good life for himself. But stealing something with such tight security is not a task for one man.

Ace (Khaotung Thanawat) is a burnt out private eye who had long been disillusioned about what good he could do against all the corruption in the world. What's worse, his cases keep causing him to run into Mercy (Mix Sahaphap), a notorious jewel thief that gets in his way and under his skin. At first he wrote it off as an unlucky coincidence, but when Mercy kept showing up at all of his cases, even those that there was no real reason for Mercy to be involved, he had to concede that for some reason Mercy was pursuing him. Against his better judgment, Ace finds himself in bed with Mercy more than he'd care to admit.

When Ace hears about a night market hosting a series of valuable items for display, his private eye senses scream at him that there's something more to what's on display, which is how he meets Night. Inevitably Mercy also gets involved and soon the trio find themselves tangled together as they begin to unravel something far bigger and sinister than they imagine.

Meanwhile, Night's estranged step-sister Dawn (Milk Pansa) is a rookie detective. When she hears about suspicious activity surrounding a night market, she goes to investigate, but is surprised that none of her superiors seem to have any interest in the matter. Things get more complicated when she keeps hearing the name Viper (Bible Wichapas), a respected businessman that all her colleagues seem to respect, tied to what's happening at the night market. What's more, she recently met the mysterious Ruby (Silvy Pavida), who seems to know more than she lets on, but Dawn finds herself inexplicably drawn to her.

Things only escalate by the sudden involvement of Prince (Jeff Satur) a master thief and Mercy's long time rival. Except Prince doesn't seem to be at the night market to steal and his apparent connection with Viper causes more confusion.

Will Night, Ace, and Mercy be able to work together to accomplish their goals? Will the tangled web of corruption be revealed? What are they willing to sacrifice to create the future they want for themselves?

HOMESTUCK: BEYOND CANON 6/12 NEWS POST

Hi, James here. Happy American Karkat day. European Karkat day, of course, being on the 6th of December. That’s how birthdays work. Don’t look it up.

Some of you may have noticed I am going to be on a stream with a “Virtual Tuber.” Depending on when exactly this goes up, that might actually be going on right now. If you are coming from over there it is very likely you are just now learning we are still doing Homestuck in 2024. Welcome back. You missed a lot but don’t look any of that up either.

What news for the birthday boy? As you may have seen across various platforms we’re partnering with Makeship, and launched a petition for a Highly Marketable Karkat Vantas Plush! The way this works is, they gauge interest by seeing if we can get 200 people to pledge they’ll buy it before the company commits to producing anything. Their business model allows them to do this at no up-front cost to us which is good because it takes a lot of money to manufacture and ship things. Once we reach our initial goal they then move forward with production and do design revisions, prototyping, etc. They send us a little sample and once we’re all approved and on the same page they do a limited pre-order run. For the first 399 pre-orders we get a 10 percent revenue share, which then changes to 30 percent once it hits 400. You might be thinking “Hey man, that's not very much!” and you’d be right, but they cover all manufacturing and fulfillment and shipping costs. And I don’t own a warehouse. So. This is fine with me.

I did promise to try and be more transparent with what's going on behind the scenes, even when it is boring. The thought process here is that, while less lucrative overall than producing and shipping ourselves this will allow us to try out more merch options. We’ve designed some apparel, and are working out something with Andrew and the usual merch guys. This might take a while, I am still new to this. That Vinyl is still on the back burner as we wait for a few holdouts that sort of make or break things. (There are people who are notoriously hard to get in contact with, so it is taking a while and I overestimated my ability to get this done in a timely manner while in poor health. That's on me.)

The whole idea here is to get you guys some cool stuff, and to pay my team more. Right now the Patreon is doing alright, and we’re trying out some new exclusives over there. Music previews, merch previews, and things like that for paying members. Nothing required to enjoy the comic, and things people will all see eventually. Since I’m trying to pay my team as fairly as possible I split everything we make evenly. Right now, for each team member it comes out to a few hundred bucks each per month which is pretty nice for getting to work on Homestuck, but isn’t exactly a liveable wage. And you see how much work they put into it. I want to give them the world, short of that at the very least a fair wage for all the work they do. Also I don’t know if you’ve noticed but a sandwich costs $19 now for some reason. That in mind if you are a company or private individual and want to pay me to promote your product let's talk. We can work something out. I will put it in Homestuck. I will make Rose Lalonde say she loves the bold refreshing taste of Diet Mtn Dew G’raha Tia Blast. I am not joking. This is my solemn vow. Maybe it's time to bring back the “Your Fantroll Gets Put In Homestuck” deal.

This might not be something with many layers to it, but is there anything to say about how (for lack of better words) good of a mood Chase seemed to be in in Private Lives?? He's talking pretty nicely with the patient, fooling around with Wilson, going to the speed-dating with Wilson and House, going to Thirteen when his mind's going a mile a minute

i think he's … just kind of in a good mood! it's been about four months since teamwork, he's starting to move on a little. we know he isn't totally over things yet (and is currently avoiding signing his divorce papers), but he's moving on. wilson asked him to go speed dating, and wilson also has a little moment of divorce solidarity later on, so who knows, maybe they've actually been talking a little. wilson is giving tips.

i also think the events of the episode are kinda… tailored to be things chase enjoys, lol. he's always been smarmy and tricky, i think he kind of likes the fun of going speed dating and lying to everyone there (especially since it also takes the pressure off actually having to call anyone — we have no indications in s6 that chase is actually interested in dating yet). you know he'd love the chance to hang with house after work, and to scheme with wilson about house — how often does chase ever get to one up him? he's having a good week!

as for why he was nice to the patient… he always is, lol, even when he hates them: chase is in-universe notorious for his smarm and fake bedside manner. but also given all this on his mind, i can absolutely see why he'd be interested in her radical openness and honesty: cameron left him less for dibala than lying. he's currently trying to dissect and analyze the last three years of his life. of course someone that open and honest would interest him, although the idea of chase actually taking any lessons from it is pretty silly -- he's deeply closed off and hates opening up.

and he truly is trying to puzzle out the last few years. lockdown is a couple weeks away, and that episode makes it clear he's sitting on a lot of anger and hurt; we see in private lives that he's already/still pretty preoccupied with figuring out what went wrong -- there's a line in lockdown where chase admits he'd rather cameron never loved him because it means he didn't break them up (when he lowkey did). we see in private lives that he's already going down that path: there's a brief and very heartbreaking line where chase wonders if maybe cameron left because he never read her favorite book, he never paid enough attention to her interests. the last thing she said to him, per lockdown, was that he was ruined and poisoned. is he to blame?

his hotness crisis is pretty explicitly about cameron too: his argument to 13 being essentially "i pursued her, maybe she just thought i was good looking and never cared". but… if he paints cameron out to be uncaring and apathetic, then he can let go of some of his own guilt. it isn't his fault. it was always doomed. and… that's shitty of him, for sure. but i can see why it would be tempting. and easier. and make him feel better.

Your opinions on superman?

Sorry for taking forever to respond. I was trying to find a way to properly explain how I feel XD

I am absolutely in love with Clark Kent. There is something so amazing about how the core of Clark's character is that he genuinely wants to do good because he simply believes it's the right thing to do.

I give a lot of credit to Ma and Pa Kent, obviously, for instilling that in him at a young age. But I also believe that Clark was always naturally inclined to be a kind person. He displays an impressive level of emotional intelligence and empathy for nearly everyone he meets. He's not perfect, but he makes an effort to understand other's motivations and actions.

I also appreciate how much he adores and respects Lois. Clark can never run out of things to say about her. I find it refreshing that a main stay of his relationship with Lois is that he admires and acknowledges her skill as a journalist/reporter. He never tries to undermine her or discredit her. In fact, one of the main reasons he's attracted to her is her dedication to her career. That and her bravery in the face of any danger she encounters. Even when she really should have bowed out forever ago XD

I also think it's very telling that of all the members of the Justice League, Bruce's best friend (other than Diana) is Clark. To me, that right there shows even further what a fantastic person Clark is. Because despite being someone as notoriously private and often irrationally paranoid as Bruce is, he is still able to let his guard down around Clark. I find it heartwarming and sometimes even hilarious that Clark is able to get away with giving Bruce absolute shit and Bruce is, more often than not, willing to tolerate Clark's teasing or even his serious reprimands. They both value the other's opinion and trust each other with their lives.

What I think more recent adaptations of Superman have forgotten, is that Clark never has had an interest in being a god or in using his abilities to establish himself as something superior to mankind. It's the opposite. Clark has such a high degree of self control over his own powers because of just how perfectly aware he is of how easily he could hurt someone if he wanted to.

But Clark doesn't have a desire for power. He genuinely wants to help people because he has the ability to do so.

Tldr; The reason Superman is so great is because Clark is a great person.

farleigh analysis PART 3, because i might as well do the entire movie at this point. i'm locked in. this is going to cover the early-saltburn summer era. AKA, oliver's once in a lifetime, hand job on a haybale, golden big boy summer. everything after venetia and oliver's sex scene is in another post on my blog. this one is pretty short.

farleigh looks borderline revolted in the background of this shot, which is so funny to me. superbad is, in my opinion, notoriously rude. the comedy is hollow, childish, homophobic, etc. even seth rogan admits that the movie is tone deaf and aged horribly. that's neither here nor there, though. all i'm saying is that i can't imagine farleigh would enjoy the movie as a queer person.

[0:35:19] elsbeth: is that right, he had to put his fingers down his mother's throat to make her sick? farleigh: yeah. felix: farleigh, that's private stuff! farleigh: well, you told us. felix: in confidence!

when elsbeth initially asks the question, she's looking directly at farleigh. yet, when felix confronts farleigh about discussing private matters, farleigh responds with "well, you told us." meaning the family, i assume. felix had no issue with elsbeth and pamela discussing oliver's home life until farleigh was very moderately involved. it's odd to me. and yes, felix is the one that told them. moral superiority, or something. having someone to blame, even when you enabled their gossiping in the first place.

[0:35:34] elsbeth: we should give him the most wonderful time! farleigh: good luck, he doesn't smile much. elsbeth: farleigh seems to think he's ghastly. why are you friends with him, darling?

really, you can tell that elsbeth likes farleigh. she respects his opinion to a certain extent. i also talked about the tutor scene in part 2, and how i consider the "style over substance" debate a metaphorical parallel to farleigh over oliver. here, farleigh once again points out the style of oliver's social interactions: he doesn't smile much. when you look at this from a social and... neurotypical perspective, lacking a smile during conversation can mean a lot of negative things. farleigh seems to have a dedicated focus on arbitrary social expectations, largely because he has to.

[0:35:33] farleigh: and here he is now! we were just talking about you. elsbeth: don't be silly! farleigh, you just make up the most awful things. of course we weren't!

once again, in traditional catton fashion, farleigh is scolded for saying doing something that contrasts the cattons saviorism. obviously oliver knew they were talking about them. i can't blame elsbeth for attempting to backtrack, but "farleigh, you just make up the most awful things" is a weirdly unnecessary throat punch. she's stepping on farleigh to appear taller, if you will. at 0:36:34, when elsbeth asks oliver to sit by her, farleigh looks so exceptionally irritated. he rolls his eyes, looks back towards his computer, and sighs dramatically. wonderful. he's so sick and tired.

[0:37:20] elsbeth: i've lost so many friends to addiction. so, so many dear, dear friends. it's the root of poor pamela's horrors too, i'm afraid. farleigh: and the only interesting thing about her. elsbeth: farleigh! no, she is rather dull, actually. but she's so beautiful. you have to admit, she's very beautiful.

elsbeth and her obsession with physical appearances. once again, style over substance. and her outrage at farleigh refusing to soften the blow on his statements, before following it with her own (albeit less crude) dig at pamela. style over substance. wouldn't it a little uncanny, a little scary, to be the only person of color in a household that places physical appearance on such a high pedestal? especially a household as ignorant as the cattons. that's just conjecture, though. oliver has the ability to manipulate a space for himself in the family without sacrificing any of the qualities he began with. he never really smiles more, throughout the summer. he never really loses his signature awkwardness, his imposing energy.

[0:40:05] elsbeth: you know we're delighted to have you for however long it is you mean to stay. farleigh: forever...? pamela: oh, no. i think i might have, erm, found somewhere. elsbeth: oh, well done, darling! james: oh, good!

right after james says "good," you can see farleigh turning to look at him. prompting james to drop the hatchet on pamela's prolonged stay at saltburn, i'm assumng. this is what's interesting to me, i think. again, farleigh lacks the drive to play the same game as oliver. farleigh doesn't want to nurture the charitable actions of the cattons. farleigh believes the other guests at saltburn take up the space that he would otherwise fill. just like at oxford, when felix is sitting with someone else, farleigh is discarded. when elsbeth invited oliver to sit next to her, farleigh looks annoyed. the cattons capacity for attention and kindness is depressingly small. farleigh isn't playing chess, he's trying to win by sheer survival of the fittest.

for the next few, brief scene of farleigh and oliver interacting, oliver repeatedly proves that he does his research. i can't get over it, to be honest. neither can farleigh; if looks could kill, oliver would've been dead within 10 minutes of arriving at saltburn. the methods farleigh and oliver uses to remain relevant in the catton catalogue are so wildly different. farleigh, who uses his personality and social skills to keep the cattons entertained and charmed by him. i'm sure he loves to gossip with elsbeth, wine and dines with venetia, and he clearly does everything in his power to stay glued to felix's side throughout the school year. this is someone who has never considered manipulating the cattons; he just wants to be one of them, and he wants it to be easy. can you blame him?

lmao sorry for the wait for some reason my brain said i could not possibly answer this until i completed the egg saga and therefore answered the first part of this question. but now im also gonna do an additional part showing donnie and mama's conversation, so it'll get even more answer...

tldr; she finds out about donnie, but still does not know about leo. she is upset and essentially forbids donnie from telling anyone about this-- (cause imagine the pr nightmare.) she wasn't previously aware that they were biologically female.

also!!! thank you!!! leo does also have a tail, but it's a lot shorter and stubbier than donnie's. he's privately a bit jealous of donnie's long, pretty, expressive tail. likewise, donnie is privately a bit jealous of leo's short, simple tail, which is never stepped on or caught in doors-- but neither of them would ever admit it and would in fact claim superiority of their own tail if asked.

donnie is the older twin.

they do not share a room, but they do share a floor of the hotel. they each have their own massive bedroom, complete with en suite bathrooms, balconies, and every other bell and whistle you could ever dream of, and are 'next door neighbors' so to speak. Mama occupies the top floor just above them, and everything below them is the actual hotel.

all four of the brothers identify as male (at least right now, anyway,) and mikey and raph are both biologically male. draxum did not really care about the gender of the turtles he obtained for his experiments; he just needed strong, healthy specimens. (plus, turtles are, like, notoriously hard to sex, anyway.)

leo is pretty sure that he's gay, but hasn't breathed a word of this to anyone. he's well aware that being a prettyboy bachelor and making the girls swoon or whatever the fuck is a part of his 'brand' as a performer, and that messing with this would NOT be well received by his mother.

donnie is bisexual, but hasn't really noticed or processed this himself yet, because he doesn't spend very much time or energy considering what is or is not attractive to him. he has other things to worry about, thank you. (and he's not as...... easily impressed as leo is.) it's not like either of them are out socializing with people their age or going on dates or anything, anyway.

personally, as in my personal opinion, i just don't believe in kara coming out as somehow the next best step for her. this matter of being your 'full self' just screams 'nobody knows what work/life balance is' lmao. this is what we call 'vocational awe' in libraries LMAO i get what it's trying to do in that this has been the series-long crusade for kara. who is she? kara danvers? or supergirl? and i have posited elsewhere that kara danvers is her default setting, not supergirl. so supergirl's role in kara's entire life is a cape/persona she dons...and then takes off. so i think the bigger identity reconciliation should be between kara danvers and kara zorel, not the hero but the alien. she's superpowered because she's alien first, etc etc. but idk how to explain that without writing an essay right now so i will withhold.

the point is i just didn't think it was a satisfying end for her to come out as supergirl to the world to satisfy the juggling of her two identities. i think she should have just done a better job juggling them LOL like i think it's important to determine how to be your most authentic self but i don't know if it needed to be done at the face of revealing your alien identity. because i still think that the target on her back just gets infinitely larger??? what's the point of keeping 4 years of secrets to lena at that point? couldn't she have reached that conclusion sooner if that was the case? i think she could have expressed her authentic self by marie kondoing what's the most important parts of her life and how to let the *right* people in, not *every single person* in. also like idk from a logistics standpoint, kara should have just hired a fucking assistant for herself to keep things organized. the issue here is that she keeps working 40 hour work weeks for both jobs. and also to accept editor in chief? like those people leave work early. the solution was for kara to have hired an assistant, maybe 2. like the reason why she's conflicted is that she's working 2 jobs? she doesn't need to combine those 2 jobs and announce to the world that she's doing them as 1 big job. what would have been more compelling to me myself and i is if she really took a look at her time as supergirl and wondered if she should maintain the cape or not. like did she do as much good as she hoped? what about the people who had died or who had gotten hurt or whose lives and situations were otherwise sacrificed on her behalf? is this the life for her? is this something she wants to keep doing because she wants to or because she feels she has to? she feels a responsibility and i think that's fascinating for a character, and she thinks that there's a duty to uphold to the humans of national city because she has these gifts. but i think the ending should have been kara determining the future of supergirl, the superhero, and not how to mix the two and count that as authenticity.

tangentially, it is oh so interesting to me that this authentic speeches comes from cat and lena to be the ones to convince her to stop hiding herself? two people who are notoriously private people???? who are essentially living private and public lives??????? funny how that goes i guess

I always kinda imagined Micah would have a hard time with timewarping, he very much was a man shaped by his father and by the era, his sole goal was to survive, and by proxy whatever enabled that. I imagine he'd have had a hard time readjusting not only to the drastic changes, but also not having to constantly think about his next move yk

Yeah no Micah had a bad time timewarping.

Firstly, he died! He died and there was no consequences. Died and popped up in modern era. What is survival worth if death is seemingly not finite?

Second, he wasn't allowed a gun! This is magical modern au America with something resembling gun control. Whatever meager test he had to do to get a gun, he failed it. While Micah's infatuation with guns was very much linked to his overwhelming belief in survival, he also liked the power of a gun.

Third, Micah was weird with Dutch. He followed Dutch. He reunited with Dutch after Dutch walked away from him in Beaver Hollow. Why? Because he desperately wants something resembling family, and Dutch was part of whatever that meant to Micah. And his father was a piece of shit sure but Dutch shot him? Dutch took away everything Micah believed in only to indirectly warp him to a world where everything was ugly and foreign and he had nothing. And Dutch wasn't turning up for a while.

Fourth, the gang didn't immediately decide to trust Micah again. Can you imagine the anger the 1899 gang felt towards Micah? They didn't want anything to do with Micah! They were more than happy to let him walk into the woods unarmed and let him become a hermit, or die again of natural causes. Micah was the first 'bad guy' to timewarp and they hadn't really considered how they were going to deal with that. Micah was a traitor. What had the gang always done to traitors?

Bessie was not immune to the general anger the gang felt towards Micah but she was a self-made woman from the 1880s. She had to learn all about how the world had changed sociologically on her own. She had to unpack so many of her own issues. She wasn't going to let anyone go through that on their own.

She also had the bonus of being a historian. While a womens' history professor, she'd used to access at the university to research the gang in an attempt to figure out timewarp. She's read all their rap sheets. She knows Micah was only a boy when he committed his first murder alongside his father. She's read the few historians who are interested in the psychology of the Old West wonder if Micah Bell III, notorious outlaw, ever had a choice - if he ever knew life could be more than survival.

And she's just soft. She's a tough bitch who can fend for herself but give her a troubled outlaw who's that bit helpless and confused and she can handle the misdirected anger. So she helped him get his shitty trailer home, and sat at the table while he looked around the shipping-container sized building squinting suspiciously at the concept a permanent structure that was meant to be his private camp now.

It was almost like going through a foster kid cliche but with an adult man helping Micah adjust. He learned to drive faster than anyone else in the gang because sitting in 'camp' constantly was counter-productive to survival, and got a map so he could learn the layout of the area. Not having a gun meant he always needed escape routes. He kicked the windows out of his trailer.

Bessie would never say it because Hosea would kill her, but Micah without a gun really reminded her of teen Arthur. Just angry and scared and assuming everyone was out to get him. And Bessie is soft but she is no pushover. Micah make a comment like he used to with Grimshaw? She'll slap him. That doesn't mean she won't drop off leftovers and sit and try to make small-talk.

And Micah still has issues. He craves connection. Being completely isolated is counter-productive to survival. Bessie sets boundaries but she's for the most part more patient than he deserves and does what she can to teach him about modern era survival.

She helps him get a job so he can buy his dumb truck and takes him grocery shopping, teaches him about tracking money because Micah gave most of his money to the gang too in VDL days. He's not used to paying for things because he's always stolen what he needs. She buys him clothes and has to turn up to wash them because he is useless but little acts of kindness actually mean a hell of a lot to Micah.

He's still a brash pig at best most days but she notices the 'come near her and i'll fucking kill you' glares he gives people on the street because he's that little bit protective of his perceived family. And how awkward he sounds the first time he calls to ask about what the hell his frozen meal means when it says fan-forced oven.

Micah's sole goal, purpose, reason for being is still survival, because really what else is there? He still doesn't have anything to live for more than living for living's sake. Not pissing off Bessie supports survival. And maybe the little 'good work!' comments and praise when he does the bare minimum like actually putting clothes in a laundry basket completely alter his brain chemistry because he's never received praise for something that wasn't directly linked to criminal or gang activity.

So yes Micah makes an effort to talk to Bessie and sometimes when he's feeling more lonely and isolated than usual he knows Bessie will always answer.

Modern Eothiriel! The Rancher and the Model

The plot bunnies are multiplying, aren't they? Today, I got an idea for a modern AU. I don't know if I'll ever actually write this -- and my personal opinion is that a modern AU may as well be an original fiction nine times out of ten -- but here goes. My favorite thing about modern fiction is that I can easily draw on personal experience.

Lothíriel is a young fashion model who lives and works between Italy, France, and occasionally New York. On the surface, she has a glamorous, fast-paced lifestyle, but originally, she is from a mid-sized city in an Eastern European country, and her family is various levels of problematized, so she helps them financially whenever she can. (For instance, her father, Imrahil, is elderly and disabled -- and also a patriarch who runs the family with an iron fist; her brother Amrothos is an on and off unemployed alcoholic, Erchirion is a put-upon small business owner, and Elphir is a doctor, but institutional medicine in that country is notoriously underpaid, so he spends his time juggling his work at the hospital with private-pay clients, as well as pulling strings to get his brother into treatment).

Éomer and Éowyn are siblings who run a horse farm in the upper Midwest (a region of the United States), raising horses for show and for racing. Their uncle Theoden, who bequeathed them the farm, passed away in a tragic accident some years ago, and Éomer and Éowyn are finally taking a vacation, for the first time since his passing. They rent a property in the South of France, in a picturesque historic beach town called Eze, and they aim to stay and soak up the sun for at least a week or two.

Little do they know that the picturesque location is the site of a modeling shoot, and that's how Éomer meets Lothíriel. (The idiot probably wanders into the modeling shoot by accident, because he's too overawed by the scenery, and his head is all but literally in the clouds).

Their connection is instant, and they continue to meet at local restaurants and cafes, and explore the coast and nearby Nice on her days off. When they part ways, they continue to talk online, and over the coming months and years, they make time to meet between their respective commitments, in a different European city every time, where they spend their days lounging around rented lofts talking and making love, with occasional forays out into the world to attend cultural venues and find sustenance and libations.

But in the end, every long distance relationship is fated to end -- either by calling it quits or becoming short-distance. As a model, Lothiriel's days are numbered: most models do not stay in the industry past their mid-twenties, and modeling is increasingly less of a career, and more of a way to pay for whatever will happen next.

As such, eventually Lothíriel and Éomer do get married, and have a beautiful wedding that transcends time and space, celebrating by turns in her home country, then in one of Lothiriel's erstwhile "home bases" (Paris or Milan), and then on the horse farm. But after the dust settles and reality sets in... what then?

Inevitably, a life on a horse ranch is less glamorous when it's a day to day endeavor rather than a getaway. What is spiritually healing, relaxing, and exotic for a week or two can become spectacularly dull, especially when one's husband is often gone, the business side of running the farm is hopelessly opaque, and the nearest city with an airport and any modicum of "culture" as Lothíriel understands it is a two hour drive away. To make matters worse, the nearby small town, beneath its quaint veneer, has a drug and unemployment problem, and the local women of her social class are seemingly from another planet: they enjoy hearing her stories but see her an outsider, and their predominant interests are gardening, church potlucks, and perhaps bookclubs where they consume more wine than words.

Fairly soon, Lothíriel is at loose ends and even depressed, wondering if she has made a mistake, and if she and her husband have anything in common. After all, it's one thing to live jet setting lifestyle, meeting only from time to time, but quite another to live together when one is used to rising early and the other is a confirmed night owl.

Can Lothíriel find a place for herself in middle America? Can she find a way to be useful and bring her experience to bear? And most importantly, can she be a support and a partner to her husband as opposed to a listless and unhappy weight? Only one way to find out!

December 17 Holiday Prompt Fic: Darcy’s Christmas Family Tree

“Dr. Lewis is back in town,” Bucky commented. “Now Steve will finally cheer up.”

He slid onto a stool a couple down from Darcy, who was perusing a menu.

“Hey, Bucky!” she greeted with a smile. “I hope he didn’t wreck your Thanksgiving with his moping. I’ve heard how he gets when he’s missing me.”

“Oh, we kept him busy so he couldn’t pout too much,” Bucky answered. “He’s so smitten and it’s the most adorable thing I’ve ever seen.”

Darcy smiled. “I’m equally smitten and this Christmas he’s gonna meet my crazy family. He’s the first boyfriend I’ve had that I’ve ever let get that far. Steve can easily match the Lewis trolling. I can’t wait to see it.”

“But that’s not the reason you wanted to meet me here, is it?” Bucky asked, noticing her fiddling with a small wooden box she held close.

“No,” Darcy shook her head and grew more serious. “I found out some very interesting family history and it’s taken me a while to process it.”

“You told Steve yet?”

“I wanted to tell you first because it directly impacts you,” she told him, eyes down on the box.

“Me? How so?” Bucky asked curiously.

Darcy took a deep breath and began her story.

“My parents are downsizing and cleaning out their old house, getting ready to sell. That’s why I was gone so long.”

Bucky nodded.

“They found this box that belonged to my late grandma. She died when I was a teenager and no one was able to get the box open because they couldn’t find the key. But they finally found the key in one of her old jewelry boxes and we opened the box. Talk about a bombshell.”

She shook her head and smiled mysteriously.

“Grandma Becky was notoriously private about certain things and all I knew about her childhood was that she’d had an older brother who didn’t make it home from the war.”

Bucky’s hand tightened on his drink, but he didn’t say a word. Darcy opened the box, removing an old photo and placing it in front of Bucky.

“This was right on top.”

It was a vintage picture of Bucky in his Army uniform. His heart stopped as he took in the significance of it and he looked up at Darcy intensely.

“I vaguely remembering her mentioning a Jimmy once or twice, but it never clicked before now,” Darcy said, emotion filling her words. “Her maiden name was Barnes.”

“And Becky was short for Rebecca,” Bucky finished. “If this is true……..oh, Darcy.”

Darcy handed him another picture, and Bucky’s whole fist clenched as he fought the emotion pouring through him at the sight of his smiling younger self next to Rebecca.

“Becca was your grandma?” he managed.

“Yes,” Darcy confirmed. “My dad is her youngest son.”

He blinked rapidly. “I knew she’d had several kids, but I thought I’d never get to meet them, because of, well, everything.”

“I understand,” Darcy told him. “She kept writing you letters even after you were pronounced KIA. I think it helped her with the grief.”

She handed him a neat bundle of sealed envelopes, still tied up in twine and yellowed with age.

“She also saved all the ones you’d written to her. Full confession, we did read some of those. But

those to you we didn’t touch, I promise you. There’s also some of your personal effects in there. I assume they sent those after…..” her voice trailed off and she quietly handed the box to Bucky.

“Just so you know, I am thrilled to have you for a great uncle. I knew I had to get my sarcasm from somewhere.”

Bucky chuckled even as his eyes welled up.

“C’mere.” He ordered, and Darcy moved over to accept his hug. They were both wiping their eyes when they pulled apart.

“Darcy, this is the best Christmas gift you could have given me,” he told her. “What do your parents think?”

“They cried a lot when I told them your story and they both want you to come to Christmas. My dad, especially.”

“Really?”

“Really.”

“Well, I think I’m gonna take these home and spend some time processing. You mind?”

“Not at all,” Darcy assured him. “Take all the time you need. I’ve gotta tell Steve next. I’ll do my best to keep him occupied so he’ll leave you in peace for a few days.”

Bucky grimaced, but then suddenly grinned.

“Do what ya gotta do. I get to plan a shovel talk,” he declared, sliding off the stool with a smirk. “Thanks again, Darcy.”

Steve was nearly bowled over when he arrived at Darcy’s apartment.

“Awww, I’ve missed you so much, sweetheart,” he sighed, holding her close. “Can I come with you next time?”

He gave his best puppy eyed smile and Darcy chuckled.

“Of course, you adorable golden retriever. I’ve missed you, too. So much. How was the mission?”

“Lame. I missed hearing you in my earpiece.”

After a very satisfying interval that ended up with a rumpled Darcy and Steve cuddled on the couch, she broached the important family topic.

“So Steve, I have a very interesting plot development in my family tree.”

“Oh? Did cousin Meg get married yet again?” Steve asked amusedly, busy dotting kisses on her hair.

“Shockingly, no,” Darcy laughed. “This one is kinda surprising, but you’re gonna like it, I hope.”

She extracted her arm to pull a picture out of her pocket.

“Do you recognize the woman in that picture.”

Steve pored over it for a bit then frowned.

“Of course. That’s Bucky’s sister, Rebecca. But what does this have to do with your family?”

Darcy smiled at his confused expression.

“That’s her wedding picture when she married my Grandpa Lewis.”

Steve’s face was a study. He gaped like a fish for a few moments, then smiled, then looked perplexed.

“She’s my grandma, but she was very private and almost never talked about her past. My dad’s middle name is James and she would occasionally mention her brother Jimmy who was lost in the war, but no one thought it was the same James Barnes until we recently uncovered a box of her personal letters and pictures. It was very enlightening and also a gut punch. She kept writing to him even after he “died”.”

Steve closed his eyes.

“Poor Becca. She was gone by the time I got out of the ice. Did she have a happy life?”

“She did. My Grandpa adored her. I remember her being sweet and caring. She made the best fudge.”

“Wow,” Steve sighed. “So this means you’re Bucky’s great niece?”

“Yup. Think you can handle that?” Darcy smirked at him and Steve kissed her again.

“I think I’ll manage,” Steve teased her. “We’ll just have to hope Bucky can handle it, or I might be a goner.”

“Punk?”

“Yeah, Jerk?”

“You intend to do right by my niece?”

“Absolutely. I want to spend the rest of my life with her.”

“So you’re planning on popping the question?”

“Yep. But don’t breathe a word. New Year’s present.”

“I see. But listen here, Steve. You know you’re my best friend, but if you ever hurt Darcy, I’ll make our little tussle of 2014 look like playground sparring. Curtains.”

Bucky made a slashing motion across his throat for emphasis.

“Understood,” Steve nodded. “And I’d deserve it, too. Anything else?”

“Only it’s about time we became family for good.”

They smiled at each other and then Darcy, who blinked sleepily up at them from her position between them. They were flying out to meet her family and she’d fallen asleep only a few minutes in.

“Mmmm,” she purred happily, nuzzling against Steve. “I’ve never felt more safe in my life.”

“That’s the idea,” Bucky smiled.

Wandering Son Review

I have mixed opinions about this anime. The message is extremely beautiful and I love the dynamic of Nitori and Takatsuki but did the other characters at points annoy me? I enjoyed Anna's character, in the beginning, being supportive of Nitori when they expressed feminine interests. However, I hated the shift with her in the last episodes where now she becomes ashamed of Nitori's behavior even though she knew that Nitori liked to dress feminine. I feel like this is reflective of society and how the people closest to us can be supportive in the moment or behind closed doors. However, they conform to society's expectations and scrutiny once they realize they are being judged. This goes for both Anna's and Nitori's cases. For Anna, in private she supports Nitori's endeavors but in public, she wishes for them not to express it out, or at least at school so she breaks up with Nitori. However, In Nitori's situation, after receiving backlash for dressing feminine at school, they stop altogether. I feel like this case Anna shows the contrast between acceptance versus understanding. Their relationship dynamic shows how for transgender individuals you have to navigate both personal comfort and societal expectations and these episodes subtly introduce that complexity.

I had this love-hate relationship with Doi as well. It reflects people's nature of how they can also be supportive in private, encouraging Nitori to dress feminine, calling them cute, etc. However, at school, Doi calls Nitori a moron and ignored them. I couldn't tell if Doi was genuinely supportive of Notori but was afraid to express his supportiveness publically. Or, if Doi only encouraged Nitori to make fun of them. Takatsuki also has a similar situation. Similarly, Takasuki is a transgener but from ftm which is a more socially acceptable transition in this anime. The guys find her transition cute an d still state that they even look cute dressed masculine. However, once rejected, the boy immediately insults Takatsuki, calling them ugly and a man. So it seems like Takatsuki only faces any kind of bullying or backlash when doing any sort of rejecting. The difference with Takatsuki's case is they have a supportive family who sort of understands the mother being transgender. However, Maho (Nitori's sister) already expresses her distaste for Nitori's feminity from the very beginning. She doesn't show up to school because of Nitori simply being who they are, she blames everything bad on Nitori and her parents do the same. Nitori was the only one to have their parents called for dressing feminine and being comfortable. No one laughed at Chi or Takatsuki but laughed at Nitori. Everyone said Nitori was cute or looked great, yet she is still laughed at. Yet, gender-bending suddenly is okay when it comes to the school play. The school play kind of serves as a metaphor for the way people "perform" gender in everyday life. The play forces the characters to assume roles that may or may not align with their true selves, reflecting how gender expectations in society often pressure people into acting in ways that don't feel natural to them. The play is a safe space where gender roles can be temporarily bent, yet outside of this controlled setting, these expressions are still met with resistance. The contrast between the beginning play versus the ending play emphasizes how childhood allows for moments of fluidity, but societal norms become more rigid with age.

Lady Charlotte in Grace Callaway's Lady Charlotte's Society of Angels series (Victorian Charlie's Angels) runs a detective agency lol

In Want of a Viscount by Lorraine Heath features an entrepreneur heroine! I don't know that it's like, her JOB JOB, but it's still there. The Notorious Lord Knightly, my favorite book in that same series, has a heroine who secretly writes an erotic memoir about her experiences with the hero, lol. It's like... Lady Whistledown if she slayed, and was less "DEAREST READER" and more "that fucking asshole Lord K touched my nipples in a garden and I think you all should know that"

Prince of Broadway by Joanna Shupe features a heroine who wishes to be a casino owner. She's not there yet, but the book is about her getting there with the hero's help. Baron, an earlier Shupe book, has a heroine who's a fake psychic lmao

The heroines of Julie Anne Long's Lady Derring Takes a Lover and Angel in a Devil's Arms run a boarding house together--which in itself isn't a crazy job, but it's definitely not super common for ladies of their day and status (the titular Lady Derring was a countess before her husband died, and the other heroine was that husband's mistress). After Dark with the Duke, another book in that series, has an opera singer heroine.

The Postilion by S.M. LaViolette has a heroine who's disguised as a young man and does in fact work as a postilion (fancy horse helper). LaViolette has some other leads with interesting jobs... His Valet features a valet lead, which isn't THAT crazy (though I've never read a valet hero) but the character was assigned female at birth and is disguised as a man (she uses she/her pronouns by and large in private, but is clearly nonbinary). Aurelia features a heroine who draws nature sketches for a naturalist hero. If it counts because it's kinda under the table but still, Hyacinth has a heroine who disguises herself as a man and racks up cash by playing cards. The titular Melissa of Melissa and the Vicar runs a high class brothel.

Actually, When a Scot Ties the Knot by Tessa Dare ALSO features a heroine with that same job.

S.M. LaViolette writes as Minerva Spencer as well, and she has a series about a string of heroines who are in a ladies' circuses. The Boxing Baroness features a lady boxer; The Dueling Duchess features a gunslinging duchess; and The Cutthroat Countess has a heroine who throws knives for a living.

A Caribbean Heiress in Paris by Adriana Herrera has a heroine who runs her family's rum business, and An Island Princess Starts a Scandal has an artist heroine and a business bitch heroine.

The Duke's Perfect Wife by Jennifer Ashley has a lady reporter heroine, which is why she feels perfectly comfortable jumping into her ex-fiance's carriage and going "SOMEONE SENT ME PICTURES OF YOU NAKED".

The Lord I Left by Scarlett Peckham features a dominatrix heroine, and the recently released The Mistress Experience (excellent) has a famous courtesan heroine. The heroine of The Rakess is a famous writer and lady about town.

Major trigger warning for the following topics:

Religious trauma, toxic relationships (romantic, familial, work), physical/psychological/sexual abuse, social stratification, depictions of panic attacks and hallucinations, drug abuse, cannibalism/desecration of corpses, graphic violence and gore

Plot heavy interactions will always be prioritized over more casual, slice-of-life type threads. The latter tends to loose my attention fairly quickly. I reserve the right to drop threads at any time for any reason. My muse is fickle, it is what it is. You will get the most consistency out of me when we're both online and focused in on the same thread.

Interactions with mains and affiliates will also be prioritized. These are the people who have dedicated real time and effort into building engaging dynamics/storylines with me and that is where most of my energy will be distributed.

Main verse will generally be prioritized over secondary and private verses, simply because that is where my hyperfixation lies most of the time.

All of my verses are single ship. If our muses really hit it off I am open to setting up a private verse for that relationship.

That being said Lute is exceptionally difficult to ship with, so I don't put much emphasis on romance on this blog. If she flirts with your muse it does not necessarily mean that I want to ship with them. 9 times out of 10 it is a manipulation tactic.

I do not write explicit sexual content. We can dance around the act in a tasteful manner if it comes to that or fade to black but I'm not interested in writing straight up porn.
