i love the way the way the locked tomb does gender. like gideon is butch, undeniably, but also can you really be gender non conforming when there’s no real image of gender to conform to in the first place? palamedes and pyrrah aren’t NOT trans in nona; their souls are trapped in different bodies, and those bodies ARE the wrong gender but also that’s literally the least of their problems. ianthe is pretty firmly in the box we would label “femme” and she’s simultaneously the princess of ida and a tower prince. but that’s also the least of her problems she’s literally puppetting a dead body around. nona experiences dysphoria about her body (harrow’s body and the barbie body) but that’s because she’s literally the soul of a planet trapped in a meat prison. any shaped meat prison would be bad.

like i wouldn’t call the locked tomb a “post gender” world, but they seem to all basically have the attitude of “i don’t have time for gender right now we’re trapped at the murder mystery dinner party from hell and someone stole god’s sperm we have bigger problems”

3. How competent would your oc be in a survival situation? Would they be better off on their own or in a group?

She'd be fine. Like, she'd literally be fine.

Mostly, probably—loosely depends on the specifics of the survival situation, but I think Mahvash would be pretty okay. She's spent a decent amount of time out on her own in Gyr Abania; she's familiar with a lot of the mountainscape and she has enough experience to come out of the survival situation... maybe not unscathed, but with all her fingers and toes intact.

Mahvash is generally best off by herself. It's what she prefers, save for one or three others she might trust to that point, but with them, she wouldn't exactly be in a survival situation and more so a camping trip. I think she does have a bit of an unfair advantage: magic saves her quite a bit of trouble, but it doesn't handle dinner all of the way. She knows how to hunt and fish—for survival, she's more comfortable fishing than outright hunting—and she has a good sense of direction. If nothing else, she could get herself to a town.

17. How polite is your oc? Do they know how to act in a formal situation? How would they *actually* act in a formal situation?

She is... polite... if she's treated politely. Mahvash is skeptical about others, but she doesn't see the point in going out of her way to be rude. There are absolutely times when she checks people—she refuses to be disrespected or talked down to; you will respect her—but those happen rarely. Odds are she's already ignored whoever's gotten on her bad side for whatever reason or outright left.

Mahvash does know how to act in a formal situation, but I'd say that the etiquette of the formal situation may vary. She gets on well with nearly everybody: she is polite, friendly, and she's probably wearing a couple pieces of jewelry that cost more than half the people in that formal situation have seen in a year. She grew up poor—and though I wouldn't say she was impoverished as a child, nor did she ever go hungry, her childhood was shaped by it nevertheless, so her approach to any formal situation is often asking, What do I need to handle this? What are the rules here? And once she knows the rules, she can break them as she likes and shape them into something else.

But, depending on the formal situation and how voluntary her presence was, she might end up lurking somewhere and people-watching. She wouldn't be entirely out-of-place at any formal event held in Eorzea: I think the furthest stretch for her would be one held in Ishgard, but not because she has trouble with the etiquette.

20. Does your oc have any favourite games to pass the time? What other hobbies do they have?

Triple Triad, of course. Backgammon is another. Mahvash enjoys board games, card games, dice games—and anything that she can play by herself if the mood strikes or she's especially bored. She has a few decks of cards she keeps aside from her Triple Triad deck, used for divination—think tarot—and card games, too. She considers divination a kind of game in and of itself… Mahvash enjoys interpreting the meanings of cards, whether it's her tarot deck or a set of playing cards, but she doesn't put much stock into it.

Her other hobbies are reading. As much as possible. She collects little knickknacks and oddities, baubles to put on shelves, things to give her children. Once upon a time, she read a lot of romance novels; nowadays, she reads anything to do with magic theory and medicine. Fiction's now lost on her, although she'll go through a novel if the mood strikes.
