Hey everyone! Popping in for the first devlog in a while. Apologies that I haven't posted one recently--mostly I've been hesitating because I feel like I don't have much new to say.

Still--this is long overdue.

There are a couple of reasons the update is taking a while to be completed. The first--and biggest--is that the ending scene(s) of the chapter are incredibly complex, coding-wise, for me. There are a few different variables to keep track of and I'm far too stubborn to adjust the plot to simplify.

To keep things vague, the MC gets the opportunity to do something, and can either go at it alone or bring Jay, Ravi, or both along. Which means there are essentially four different worldstates I'm accounting for. That being said, I'm finally at the end of it. There's still a bit that needs wrapping up, but it's coming.

Also, my mental health has been...pretty terrible, recently. Writing on top of mental illness and working full time has felt near impossible some days. I'm doing my best to take breaks and practice self-care, but unfortunately it doesn't always lend to the fastest writing.

The goal is to get the update out by the end of this month. I'm determined.

I don't like that the conversation around Viktor is framed with utmost polarity, Arcane good, old Viktor bad and not a coherent character, Arcane bad, old Viktor was perfect etc. It is mostly the Arcane twitter crowd that claims old Viktor sucked and Arcane made him a good character. Arcane made a good character. They didn't make the already existing Viktor, good.

Viktor suffered the biggest change in 2016 with Camille's release. Before that point he was the only one in League lore who could engineer mechanical prosthetics. That made him unique in a way that it left a lot of room for nuance on whether he would be helping people or turn into a machine dictator. The lore never explored it, but it was there.

When mechanical augments were established to be a very commonplace after the 2016 lore changes, Viktor had to one up augmentation and this is where his lore got confusing. He essentially had an identity crisis Riot put him in because they could neither commit fully to making him a mad villain, nor could the retcon his initial villainness by making him an anti-hero.

The most logical outcome with a character like this is to take him towards a more religious route (I know this because I used to roleplay him here on tumblr and wrote him for around 6 years, I did this route too). However a character like this is very very hard to write, especially for a show like Arcane.

So Arcane had to cut a corner and tie everything up, including Viktor, so they had to replace his engineering with corrupting Arcane magic. It is easier to show on the screen, it is more effective, and it won't leave a character that will be a little unbelievable.

However that doesn't mean Viktor cannot be a coherent character, it means Riot failed to write him so. He absolutely can. The most likely route would've been pushing him to absolute villainy. Which is exactly how the show goes. But the show did not have the luxury of time to flesh out an engineer who would go too far, and probably feared risking something like that with a character that is a representation of certain physical disabilities.

However this stripped Viktor of agency. Viktor could be extremely complex in his struggle with doing good for the people and also forcing change on the people under the false pretense that he is doing good and he knows better. It's a difficult balancing act that can be done. Riot followed Arcane in the easier route, but that strips Viktor of his agency to become the way he is on his own - not because he lucked out with a Hexcore twice and then became a time traveling space wizard.

Arcane Viktor is not bad. But neither was old Viktor. Arcane Viktor took him down the route of a space and time traveling mage, while old Viktor was just a very ambitious scientist who had the capability of becoming a great evil on his own. These are essentially different characters. No matter how many similar elements they have in their design and "Glorious Evolution" philosophy, they are essentially completely different.

Yeah old Viktor wasn't as fleshed out as Arcane, but he could've been if someone wrote him. Insulting the people who love old Viktor and prefer him over the one from Arcane is doing nothing for no one because these are different characters and one hasn't left the second draft for 13 years. He deserved the chance to be fleshed out... or well machined out.

And he does not deserve to get erased from the game. His fans and players do not deserve to be ridiculed, insulted and talked down to just because they wanted a mad scientist cyborg and not a time traveling space wizard.

Hi hello quick math rambling time because i read sigewinnes kit

So first of all.

Her skill basically gives her BoL that covers 20% of her hp, and if that 20% is equal to 10k hp, you get 5 energy (this is to max this skill, tbf if shes teamed with furina i doubt she'd have energy issues)

WHICH MEANS. If 20% hp MUST be 10k hp, her max hp NEEDS to be 50k. Which is insane

BUT THATS NOT ALL!

Second of all,

When she uses E, your summons except for sigewinne's bubble gets buffed for 10 times they do damage.

For every 1k hp ABOVE 30k hp, you get a flat 80 damage buff with a max of 2800

Which means.... 2800/80 = 35.

35k hp.... above 30k hp.... so to max this buff, sigewinne needs a MINIMUM of 65K HP.

listeeennnnn, work is killing me and I have barely enough time to keep up with my LS WIP that was supposed to be done in November, so I don't think I'll have time to write this VERY LOUD idea in my head, so thought I'd share the bones of it, here. If anyone knows of a fic that already fits this idea or if anyone with more time on their hands wants to write it, pls tag me! This NEEDS to exist if it already doesn't. I might still try and write it, but by the time I have time to do it, Buddie will probably have gotten together and broken up twice.

Eddie has a gay realization in Texas and brings a man home on a first date - he's very awkward and treating it like a hangout

there's a knock at the door, we see as we usually do Buck standing on the other side

surprised, Eddie opens the door and Buck comes in like he would normally have

Eddie tries to block him and Buck sees there's another man in the house

even tho Buck has come to Texas to declare his feelings for Eddie, he immediately gets jealous over the possibility of being replaced as bestie and leaves, maybe with a little sassy comment abt enjoying his time with his new friend

First date ruined, dudeman leaves and Eddie is sad

Finds Buck before he flies out the next day and they have a parallel conversation about how Eddie was on a date

Buck is even more upset bc not only was he prepared to tell his "straight" friend he has feelings for him and be rejected, but he finds out that Eddie had this whole realization and never mentioned it to his supposed best friend - showing that the friendship is more important in his head than the possibility of a romance at this time - maybe even a little hurt at the idea that maybe Eddie didn't tell him bc he thought Buck would try and bag him (totally not the case, of course, just Buck being Buck)

Buck still leaves, Eddie is upset, cut to Chis telling him how he seems depressed in Texas and he doesn't want him to be depressed anymore, maybe we can move back to LA (he has no idea about what's going on, yet)

Eddie is like, "bet" and the flies out to "make arrangements"

we end with Buck having a knock on the door and Eddie standing on the other side.
