With Captain America: Brave New World releasing tomorrow, we at comicedit wanted to remind everyone of the ongoing boycott against this film for the character Ruth, aka Sabra's inclusion, which despite numerous reshoots hasn't been removed from the film.
For more information on Sabra's history as a Zionist propaganda character, @imperiuswrecked has written a guide here.
Instead of buying a movie ticket, we urge you to instead donate to the Gaza Soup Kitchen, which is trying to give survivors of the genocide warm food, and to donate to one of the many fundraisers that still need help rebuilding their homes. Gazafunds chooses a random vetted fundraiser if you need help choosing one.
And as a reminder, every actor's decision to be in this film is a choice they made. You do not need and should not be justifying their decision to work with a woman who actively chose to join the IDF despite being exempt. A boycott does not mean "pirate but create fan material as usual", it means no engagement. It is important that this film exist in zero conversations that aren't about its Zionism.
Free Palestine.

One last heart-to-heart.
So I don't know if this is technically a mini, or a full part (hence the different layout). This was originally not written as part of the script. But I felt it was way too important to not bring up. Especially considering Susie's run-in with that emotional parasite and that whole (not) throwaway line from Lesslo about Kris having been literally discarded and abandoned as a child.
Let's just call it part 91-1.

Imagine yourself submerged in the prehistoric ocean. There are no fish, instead the only life forms consist of feather-like sessile organisms that sit on the seabed, filtering the current. The early organisms that evolved out of this, such as Jellyfish and Starfish, had radial anatomy. Their body structure entails a central axis from which you can split everything else. These bodies are simple, not designed for active mobility, lacking a ‘forwards’ or ‘backwards’. They didn’t even have eyes, instead interacting with and responding to the world via photoreceptive cells. What emerged from this were two developments: the evolution of complex eyes and the emergence of bilateral anatomy in early vertebrates and arthropods. In contrast to radial anatomy, bilateral anatomy entails an organism that can be split down the middle with rough symmetry. This is to say that they are built for direction. A body that is built for mobility entails significantly more complex behaviour behind its operation. Behaviour, in this sense, also becomes significantly more directed. These creatures now living in the ocean or on the sea-floor now begin to directly interact with one another. The mechanisms facilitating this interaction become pretty apparent in the fossil record; eyes, claws and antennae. The evolutionary consequences of this are the emergence of a complex nervous system alongside the presence of predation and, as Godfrey-Smith puts it “[From this point on] The mind evolved in response to other minds”.

Some notes from today's new BioWare Blog post, which contained some new character insights and also gave some information on what is coming next and when:
Creative Performance Director Ashley Barlow helped to cast and direct over a thousand conversations in the game
Lucanis is bloodthirsty, calculated, and a workaholic. He was raised with high expectations and fears disappointing those he loves. To him, being an assassin is his only job and identity to be excellent at. He's constantly attuning himself to the kind of shifting terrain of every mission. There's a lot of love between him and Illario
As Zach is a comedian, he would easily find the humor in anything Lucanis was saying
Neve is a Shadow Dragons rebel who cares deeply about helping people and never leaves work half-done. Epler: " [she is] the working class hero trying to make her hometown better"
Emmrich is sincere, friendly, scholarly, sophisticated, eager to teach and learn, a well-meaning but oblivious academic, with a "hot nerdiness". He assumes everyone has an academic's curiosity so can be pedantic on select topics
The Mourn Watch are revered in Nevarra but odd at best and evil at worst outside of it
Nick: "I love the fact that the writers took Emmerich and explored the whole idea of death and the whole idea of necromancing by bringing kindness into it. I really responded to that and got into that and I know it sounds crazy, but it’s to not have this idea that death is vulgar or something to be terrified about, but something to actually engage with on so many levels. I just love the fact that the writers had the courage to do that in a game like this."
"Often Nick is just playing off of someone making a sound, and he takes it and internalizes it and gives it meaning and care, which is amazing to watch."
The world has changed a lot since DA:I
Harding has been leading teams through the wilderness while covering friends in battle
Harding loves her mom. She loves to write letters home and is always talking about her mother. She likes plants and raising plants. She has grown and is a veteran now, a trusted voice at the table
Footage of the full DA:TV @ SDCC companions panel should be available in a couple of weeks
Next month there will be a new roadmap, more looks at the game, and the reveal of the release date
[emphasis mine]
And this paragraph:
"Dragon Age: The Veilguard sees players embark on a perilous quest to face powerful Elven gods and stop the apocalyptic destruction they’re unleashing. You’ll step into the role of Rook, battling on the front lines alongside a deep and compelling cast of companions who together comprise The Veilguard, a group of heroes who have come together to stop the veil from breaking and bringing about the end of the world. Rook must become the unexpected leader who can rally and unite the group. Throughout the game, you can explore the detailed storylines of each companion, navigating love, loss, and complex choices that influence your relationships."

i like that the more times you reread The Hollow Boy, the deeper and more complex the answer to “why did Lucy leave L&Co but kept the skull?” gets.
at first it's because skull confirmed Lucy’s talent and she says so herself in TCS. then it's because she knew she couldn't hurt it or bring it to its doom with her talent unlike Lockwood and others.
but ultimately the answer is that she was afraid that her actions would lead to Lockwood's untimely death, but it was Lucy who was rapidly approaching the other side, as her talent grew stronger as well as her connection to ghosts and the world of the dead. and, thinking that skull's the only one who understands being in two worlds at once, she, ironically, chose her companion to be the most life desiring character in the series, who didn't let her spiral during those months apart from L&Co.

It really is faster to list the (adult) GG characters that are explicitly cisgendered heterosexual. Here it is:
Jokes aside, I really, genuinely, do think there's a lot of gender and sexuality stuff in Guilty Gear that they're only just now able to (whether by confidence or allowance from the publishers) explore in a deeper way.
There are the obvious things like Baiken having thrown away her womanhood/femininity as far back as Missing Link (1998!), Testament's gender and presentation have always been on a spectrum between vague to fully androgynous/agender, with a lot of early Japanese GG books/zines/materials either tiptoeing around their gender entirely or doing things like including them in both the male and female character polls in the ASW 25th Anniversary Official Character Collection book; Bridget's had obvious gender stuff since day one too. Even Justice has played around with gender to the point that the lone English translator of Missing Link accidentally gave her he/him pronouns. Sol Badguy is Freddie Mercury.
Then there's the more obscure stuff, like Kaihou Norimitsu (author of two GG novels, all of the Drama CDs, Guilty Gear XX, Dual Rulers, etc.) wishing to explore the possibilities of gender identity in both physical and social ways in a blog post from 2006, but lamenting being unable to because, well, it was 2006.[1] Daisuke Ishiwatari has also said things like how he's "transcended human existence" just like Testament, in regards to their androgyny (in 2002);[2] or how he gives each character "his very heart" and that Bridget was written as a cis girl until the last minute, where Daisuke changed his mind because he thought that Bridget "could become [Daisuke's] alter ego" in an interview from 2004.[3] There's more than this but I hope this is enough to illustrate my point.
I know Tumblr is the "haha everyone lgbt" headcanon firehose website, but there's just so much in Guilty Gear that I think, just this once, it's probably safe to assume there's something unique going on in that department for a very significant portion of the series' cast.

Hello and welcome to comicedit's first ever event, celebrating our favourite women in comics and comic book adaptations!
As women's history month draws near, we want to give everyone the opportunity to celebrate their favourite women in comic-related media. This event is structured with very open themes each week, allowing for everyone to have enough time to create their material. Multiple submissions for the same theme are not only accepted, they're encouraged!
WHAT DO WE ACCEPT?
Gifs, graphics, moodboards, video material, virtually anything visual is accepted!
HOW DO I PARTICIPATE?
We will track our usual tag, #comiceditblog, as well as #cewomen25!
RULES
As usual, we do not accept material regarding the Elizabeth Olsen portrayal of Wanda Maximoff, or Gal Godot's depiction of Wonder Woman.
THEMES
Week 1, 1st to the 7th of March → Favourite female character(s). Self-explanatory!
Week 2, 8th to the 14th of March → Favourite women-led project. This incorporates films, television shows, solo comic book titles, all-women teams, etc. Any piece of comic book media that centers on a woman is accepted! Examples; Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, Wonder Woman (1976), Dazzler (1981) by Tom DeFalco, etc.
Week 3, 15th to 21st of March → Favourite female relationship. Wherever it's two best friends, a mother and a daughter, or a romantic relationship, anything is accepted here. Non-canon ships or team-ups are also accepted. Examples; Harley Quinn/Poison Ivy, Sue Storm-Richards and Valeria Richards, Scarlet Witch and Zatanna team-up.
Week 4, 22nd to 28th of March → Favourite obscure / underrated woman. This is for your supporting cast favourite, your 10 minutes of screentime darling, your 25 appearance queen. This is the time to show love for the forgotten women in comic book media, but we know everyone's definition of underrated is different, so we aren't too strict! Examples; Lady Dorma, Helen Cho, Lyta Trevor, etc.
The remaining three days are free; if you want to put out extra work, or catch up on a missed prompt, please feel free! At the end of the month, we will collect everything in a round-up post, so everyone can check out each other's beautiful work.
If you have any other questions, our inbox is open!
If you're considering creating material, or if you're looking forward to seeing other people's works, please make sure to reblog this post! We look forward to seeing everyone in March.
