I think what a lot of destiel fans forget is that outside the spn bubble most of us dislike Supernatural and anything related and have mostly heard of it against our will.

The whole destiel news meme is largely because of circumstances surrounding it and not because people were genuinely interested in what was going on in the show.

I promise you when it comes to cultural impact, Gundam, a series thats been around since '79 and it's most recent series which focused on a gay relationship ending in marriage in a country where gay marriage is not yet legal has had the bigger impact.

In the universe of the film, there is ABSOLUTELY a contingent of fans that fervently ship Argylle/Wyatt and have the dominant ship on AO3 and trade elaborate fan theories about their hidden relationship and are convinced they’re meant to be endgame but the publishers won’t allow it. Of course, they go totally BALLISTIC when they learn they’re based on the author and her boyfriend.

The thing is, I’m disappointed in how the story in The Acolyte is being told, but because it has a diverse cast, I’m worried Disney executives are going to blame people’s criticisms and dislike of the show on the cast instead of the writing. I don’t want it to be a case of “See? People of color just don’t draw audiences in, it’s not financially beneficial to us to invest in stories with them as the leads”. It’s unfair to place blame on the cast when their presence is not the cause of a story’s failure. It’s clear the actors did what they could with what they were given but what they were given is mediocre and amateur writing and directing at best

#I have the same complaints about bad storytelling with the Willow tv show and female Ghostbusters movie #And a hundred other things #Most regular people didn’t dislike them because of female leads or people of color or LGBT+ characters #They disliked them because they had terrible stories and scripts and characters!#The Acolyte critical #I’ll fish out the criticisms of the other episodes later but I would really just rather have a good story

So I watched A Silent Voice with some but minor knowledge of the story going in. And right at the beginning when Shoko's bullying started I had the nagging worry that while Ishida would be redeemed they'd leave Ueno and Kawai as one-dimensional bullies. Painting the girls as the "real villains" while the male protagonist got to have depth. Anyway I just finished the movie and I would like to formally apologize to Oima Yoshitoki and Yoshida Reiko I should never have doubted you.
