Something I appreciate about Monkey Man is how doesn't try to frame revenge as just a pointlessly violent, self-destructive pursuit the way many films do. I think it's because Dev Patel was unafraid of adding a political element to the story. The kid wants to avenge his mother, but he also doesn't want what happened to them to keep happening to others. The presence of the hijras really drives this idea home. They fight with him not only because he's their friend, but because Baba and the nationalist party will bring violence literally to their door even if they don't fight back. I often roll my eyes at anti-revenge narratives. I think Dev Patel gets what it's like to be a victim of systematic violence in a way most filmmakers seem not to. Revenge isn't just a selfish pursuit that perpetuates the ~cycle of violence~, it can also be a desperate desire for the violence to end.

To further explain on the first one, I think he can't talk because he just ends up producing unintelligible noises and it kinda hurts for him to do it(?

so interesting how each of les amis represents a different facet of hugo’s ideology. enjolras is republicanism as whole; combeferre, the importance of education and scientific progress; courfeyrac, being a chill guy who fucks; grantaire, yapping…

In the part of the trailer where Solas is chastising Rook for interrupting the ritual, he doesn’t sound angry, he sounds like an exasperated mentor explaining something to their unwilling student
And I think he looks sad- regretful
Tumblr media
We’ve heard him angry before, when his spirit friend was bound and corrupted and when the Inquisitor drinks from the wall of sorrows. That venom and fury is completely absent in the trailer. When he’s genuinely angry, Solas looks more like this
Tumblr media
I genuinely, truthfully believe that he wanted to be stopped (probably in a different way and by different people yes, but still stopped)

Hi,
Would you do a break down of Batman's identity crisis? Because he's got layers, and most of them are exaggeration of certain aspects of his normal self, or wildly different.
Like, everyone in the league has a few layers to their secret identity, but they have a civilian identity to fall back on and be normal or themselves or whatever. Even Oliver Queen can say he's comfortable and genuine being Ollie.
Bruce's sense of identity has layers the same way that taco dip has layers, which is to say, those layers are all extremely different, there's no one key standout, and every time you scoop a chip into it, you get a different combination of flavors.
I generally stay away from the "Bruce Wayne is the mask" stuff the reddit bros love. I don't think Bruce Wayne is the mask, so much as we (and Bruce) have a hard time putting our finger on who exactly Bruce Wayne is, actually. Batman and Brucie, Matches, all of those other faces, they're not not him -- especially Batman -- but they're facets, large facets of who he is, but not wholly encompassing Bruce.
I think I've mentioned before that I hc that Bruce envies Ollie, like you mentioned, because he doesn't struggle (as much) with his sense of identity. He's Green Arrow, he's Ollie, and he's Oliver Queen -- and for the most part, those are separate, discrete people. Deep down, though, he thinks of himself as Ollie. His default is Ollie. Bruce's problem, in many ways, is that he has no set default -- just a rapidly shifting set of identities that serve him best in that moment.
I think it's easier to decide who Bruce is via isolated moments that don't fit into the other identities. Things that aren't Batman or Brucie or even Matches, etc. Fatherhood is a good vein to look at -- so is grief. The order than Bruce imposes on his life, the Justice League, his friendships, etc -- do those actually serve those other identities? Or are they also related to that possible default?

aside from everything else about durgewyll I am loving how it highlights wyll and gortash as narrative foils. both their upbringings lead them to interact with demoniac entities, both can only become archdukes and join baldurian high society through uldred, both are swaying the dark urge from simply following bhaal (and arguably the dark urge sways them from simply pursuing an ideal and the dark urge can recognise both as their equal)
and by playing your card right in act 3 wyll just...gets everything gortash was trying to get? wyll really is a hero saving baldur's gate from the legion of the absolute. wyll influences gortash's favourite assassin into becoming someone they can defeat the netehrbrain together. they can even become archdukes together! ...or they can turn it down and then they can go to he hells to sneak around and have adventures (like gortash and durge used to) and save karlach's life (the same life that is at risk because gortash mindlessly threw it away).
like. it's a lot, wyll and durge can even murder raphael.

Lately I’ve been obsessed with how feral and animalistic Scratch (and by extension the Dark Presence) is portrayed in Alan Wake 2. In the past Alan has said that it’s hard to personify the Dark Presence because its behaviors and motivations go beyond what human psychology and emotions can express, but it’s interesting to me that some behaviors and emotions usually associated with feral animals like wolves seem to fit this version of the Dark Presence/Scratch better. In the same way Alan is the owl and Saga is the deer, Scratch is the wolf. I mean, he constantly bares his teeth and growls. In the Dark Place the Dark Presence hunts Alan, while in the real world Scratch hunts Saga, both stalking their prey. Saga also gets repeatedly attacked by shadow wolves, who at one point kill a deer when she solves a nursery rhyme. And I absolutely love how the old saying about how animals are most dangerous when they’re cornered and/or wounded can be applied to Scratch in multiple situations, but especially when the Cult of the Tree attacks the lodge. At that point the Dark Presence was still weak from joining with Alan, but now they’re under attack, Casey is gone, and cultists are coming to kill them. Even though we don't actually see it and Alan doesn’t remember, it’s obvious Scratch managed to come out. And Scratch doesn’t just kill the cultists, but fucking rips them apart, judging by the piles of bodies and gore and hanging entrails. Don’t even get me started on The Bad Boy in Number One Fan, where they practically take the wolf motif and beat us over the head with it all under the guise of funny jokes and fanfiction tropes.
As much as I love the old portrayal of Scratch in AWAN, this much darker and feral version of Scratch is just so fascinating to me. Anyway, TLDR:

ok I’m not a meta writer or an easter egg hunter but I’ve been waiting for someone else to talk about this structure that the good omens title leads to because it’s driving me bananas
Tumblr media
when it first pans up, it looks closed off like there’s walls around the pillars
Tumblr media Tumblr media
but the next time we see it we can see the four pillars and a domed roof
Tumblr media Tumblr media
and i know it’s not a perfect match to the shape of the structure, but it’s pretty darn close to the bookshop layout
Tumblr media Tumblr media
and the domed roof that we don’t really get to see in the show is very clear in concept art
Tumblr media
and uh what could the bright white light in the middle of the structure that the figures are walking towards be?
Tumblr media
anyway all this to say this concept image makes me really nervous

everything they say on tumblr about roger waters is true. he's 5-times divorced (including the band), his most well known vocal roles include him screaming in the most fucked up ways possible, his most prolific songwriting is about his doomed situationship with his childhood friend guitarist, he's been named the "gloomiest man in rock 'n' roll" and he delivers on that title as best as he can, he has daddy issues and about 5 different complexes and every few years he starts drama with his arch nemesis of 4 decades over shit like an album remix. and he looks like this the whole time
