Polish nobility is not something I'd approve of but dear God the fashion is amazing. I can't stop staring at all those men in 1670 and their hats and coats. I love the "orient meets eastern europe" vibe. And I love Zofia's conservative clothes, too. They're so dramatically sexy.

Guessing the decades of random historical paintings I have saved on my phone based on the style of clothing. I might do this more often since it was quite fun.
Tumblr media
The high waistline with a small amulet on the top of the bodice, a flared part on the bottom of the bodice, big and short sleeves with minimal decor, long and slightly wide dress, also with minimal decor, incredibly low neckline, and the (probably) pommed bangs and big curly hair make me think that this is 1630s, but it could be a bit later than that.
Tumblr media
The big sleeves with the folded parts, the low and rounded neckline with the transparent fabric around it and the hair that is tied up on top but loose behind makes me think that this might be 1530s, I can't be very sure though.
Tumblr media
The elegant linen sleeves, wide collar, curly hair, seemingly wide breeches (thought they're not very visible from this angle), and the wide justacorp make me believe that this is possibly 1670s.
Tumblr media
The curly and narrow powdered hair which is long at the back with devil horn bangs, the triangular neckline with a decorated bodice, the wide, puffy sleeves, low, triangular waistline, and slightly wide skirt makes me think that this is 1710s or maybe a bit later.
Tumblr media
The short hair that is pushed downwards, big and long cravat with a bit of frill on the bottom part, long overcoat, short and tight undercoat, slightly loose sleeves, and sort of tight pantaloons make me think that this is 1810s or somewhere around that.
Tumblr media
I want to say that this guy looks like Adam Sandler. The Chaperon is wide, his bangs are short, the jerkin is big and puffy with a gash in it, which makes the linen undershirt visible, his sleeves are puffy, and his linen sleeves slightly peak out, which makes me believe that is might be 1520s.

So I was reading The Younger Sister, a The Watson’s continuation by Jane Austen’s niece, Catherine Hubback. And let me say up front, it was really good, she wrote some great dialogue and while it went a little off the rails in Volume II, I was really happy with Volume III, anyway...
The author stops the action during the very first ball (which is a rewritten part of the original novel fragment) and gives this mini rant:
There must certainly be some connexion between the style of dress and the style of dancing prevalent in any particular generation. The stiff ruffs, the awful long waists and formal boddices of Elizabeth's reign [1558-1603] were quite in keeping with a stately pavan; the loose attire and complete undress adopted by the courtly beauties of Charles the Second may be considered characteristic of the elegant but licentious style pervading their dances [1660-85]. The minuet matched well with the buckram, and rich brocade, and high head-dress which marked the era of the earlier Georges [1714- 1830]; whilst powder and hoops of course disappeared under the influence of the merry country-dance and cotillion. Perhaps at the present time the dresses, like the dances, partake more of the character of the latter Stuarts—graceful and bewitching; the habiliments full and flowing, the steps vivacious but tending to giddiness, with a near approximation to romping, and a great risk of inducing a faux-pas, or even a serious fall.
The author COULD NOT HELP HERSELF. She really REALLY needed to let us know that these Georgian people were dressing and dancing wrong and probably looked like harlots. Now this novel was written in 1850, when women dressed like this:
Tumblr media
And The Younger Sister is probably set during the Regency when people dressed like this:
Tumblr media
Which is clearly wrong and terrible. But she referenced the reigns of Elizabeth I and Charles II, so let me explore some more fashion history...
So 1580, Elizabeth’s reign is “good”...
Tumblr media
And here is the reign of Charles II, which is “bad”...
Tumblr media
Huh. Well I guess showing some neckline and natural hair is just wrong? I’m not totally sure, but I do love that we now know exactly which eras the Mrs. Hubback thought were too loose and undressed.
If there is a fashion historian out there, please help me understand what’s so terrible with these eras that made the narrator slip into exposition. (She does it once more to mourn that Georgians don’t have phrenology yet, which just made me laugh out loud)

Your dress designs look lovely so far! What about 1678 in lavender? 🤍
Well... I was going for a pretty pattern made out of swishy lines... and I ended up with a zebra print that makes the fabric skew pink in contrast when it was definitely lavender. Rip.... well, hope you like it!

Prompt: Send a year from 1400 - 1960 and a colour to my askbox and I’ll try to paint someone from that time period. (Status: Open) Note: I have only these two variables in the prompt to keep things simple for me. If you choose to request something more specific, I might go with it, but if I'm particularly busy or unfamiliar with the specified variable I might either ignore the more specific parts of the request or ignore the request entirely.

My Fair Lady: Late Baroque Era Set
Tumblr media
(no fancy thumbnail this time, sorry) ♫ < baroque music
Please READ ALL OF THIS before downloading. I will not answer an ask if it was answered here. Read.
This is a late 17th-century/early 18th-century Baroque Set. You will get 25 items for women, girls, and toddlers! Towards the bottom, I will give you tips to start a Baroque Era Save (people to find on gallery and men/boy attire).
I would like to thank @the-melancholy-maiden @linzlu @sychik @batsfromwesteros @vintagesimstress @cringeborg @acanthus-sims @stereo-91 and sims 2 creator maya40 for the stuff I've used to make all of this. I'm sure there are more creators but I cannot recall their names off the top of my head. DM me if you see a piece of your mesh here so I can give proper credit. I would also like to thank @belleophile for testing these items for me.
The stuff in this set can work for the late 1660s-early 1710s.
WHAT YOU GET: You will get 3 hat hairs, 1 for each age I listed above, 2 Fontanges for adults that work with the hat slider mod, 4 adult hairs, an adult baroque hair comb piece, 1 adult baroque sash accessory used for court and portraits, 1 ribbon hair piece to go with a hair, and 13 dresses (2 1670s/1660s mantuas, 1 1680s-1710s Habit used for Hunting or Riding, 1 1690s-1710s court dress used for court occasions, 1 1690s-1710s jeweled portrait dress and 1 1660s-1670s portrait dress with sash, and finally 7 1690s-1710s mantuas used for everyday, formal, and seasonal wear. I've included 1 dress for a child and 1 dress for a toddler as well).
SMALL NOTICE ABOUT THE PIECES: The hairline on the hairs will not behave correctly if you have head shape presets on the sim. I've tried fixing that but no luck. If I manage to fix it, I will update it. The Hat Hairs are found in the HAT category and are not compatible with hairs you MUST download the hair files that I'll be including with them. This being said, if you remove sim clothing while they have the hat hair on, it removes the hair override too. It's strange, but just put the hat back on and it should fix. The comb, and ribbon accessory are also found in the hat category. The Sash is found in the GLASSES category. The 1660s-1670s Mantuas are not compatible with shoes, leggings, or socks. I've removed these options in CAS tools so you shouldn't have to worry about clipping. The Barbara 1670s Dress has a sash meshed onto it, and because of this does not behave well with bigger bodies. The same applies to the Henrietta 1670s Dress, as the pearls don't behave with bigger bodies. Same with the Sarah 1670s Dress jewels. The 1690s-1710s Mantuas will have small gaps if the sim is plus-sized. I have tried to fix these issues, but no luck. The hat hair fontange looks a bit gray without reshade or a lighting mod. @northernsiberiawinds has some good lighting mods. Other than that, it's fine. Below, is how it will look white with a lighting mod.

Everything has AT LEAST 20 swatches. Some things have more. There are only a few things that don't have this many swatches.
Here are some pics up close of what you are getting.

Did I forget the 1680s mantua..? Oh no! Luckily, I've included this surprise 1680s dress you'll be getting as well for reading all of that. So 26 items! (here you can see hat hair fontange without lighting mods installed)

BAROQUE SAVE TIPS: These dresses will work for winter, summer, and traveling wear. Just add a fichu for summer wear or a shawl. For winter wear just add some long gloves and a cape. For men's stuff from this era, @stereo-91 has recolored some acanthus outfits which can be found here. I'll show you how they look below. I also recommend going to his gallery (ROTAMETERS91) as he has AMAZING builds for this era. For a little boy, @acanthus-sims has some stuff that can work.

I know some of you don't speak Polish and we can't afford to translate 40-min-long chaotic interviews for you and I'm a bit bored (meaning: my brain wants a break from writing but I'm stubborn and I want to finish it TODAY), so I thought I'd give you a bit of a trivia based on interviews with the actors and the crew of 1670:
throughout all the interviews, no one really asked if we're getting season 2. I mean, someone did and the response was: "Well, we know nothing" but nobody really asked if they had any IDEA about what would happen in the next season
I'm not sure about the actors but the creative and directive levels went to a series of lectures on how people lived in Poland in the XVII century
they received a substantial funding, especially considering the directors were complete "no-names"
filming took 3 months, December through February 2022 if I recall
they all lived in an open-air museum in Kolbuszowa; in fact, almost all of the building were already there, they only had to build the house, the barn and the forge
there was no delay in filming, which is apparently rare in the industry but that was because they had a very tight schedule and couldn't afford staying longer in the museum
the last episode was filmed on one day and that was the last day of filming and because of technical issues with cameras working in the inn (the short shot of Maciej serving the pig to the Adamczewskis' table had to be re-done 20 times!), they had to completely rearrange the wedding party scenes, turning them into long shots; the entire labor/dancing scenes were supposed to be shot from 13 (!) different perspectives and be arranged in a "music video fashion"
one of the first episodes (if not THE first episode) to be filmed was episode 7
the script was written with Bartłomiej Topa (Jan Paweł) in mind, however, the actor wasn't really convinced about participating in this project and took his sweet, sweet time to decide on it; same goes to Dobromir Dymecki (Bogdan). Topa says it wasn't because he didn't find it good - it was because he was afraid that the project would be underfunded and therefore fail as projects like that usually don't get the attention they need in Poland
Bartłomiej Topa said he portrayed Jan Paweł as evil and conniving for the first two weeks of being on the set and the first scene they recorded was the one with the "Adamczycha" sign falling down; only after that time, after one scene in particular (don't remember which one, sorry), he finally saw the true nature of his character and changed his approach to the portrayal
surprisingly, Michał Sikorski (father Jakub), unlike Topa, thought of his character as a silly, innocent man and he changed his mind only after seeing the Aniela-Maciej dance scene where he says Love is peaceful, love is kind, love is... unacceptable - he understood he got to play a villain
the actors were FORBIDDEN to improvise; their lines had to be memorised prior to filming
they shot the barrel-cleaning scene (the thing they do before blowing the magnate's son's head up) for 2h because Bartłomiej Topa and Andrzej Kłak (well, he plays Andrzej) couldn't stop laughing; Topa mentions he doesn't even remember how they managed to get it done
all the mud was brought there ON PURPOSE
Kirył Pietruczuk (Maciej) is a debutante when it comes to film, however, he is the only actor in the crew with an acting degree; not only that - he graduated with honors
when asked about this, Michał Sikorski said: "Well, but it doesn't matter, does it? Because, even thought I haven't graduated, I got to play a nobleman and he... well..." (obv that was A JOKE; he is like the sweetest person ever!)
he also said he wrote a "Maciej's journal" during filming and spent a lot of time creating a backstory for his character; he said it was helping with the a-chronical shooting; he read one of the entries out loud in his interview
he jokingly said his favourite episode is the last one because he got to kiss Martyna (Aniela) there
as mentioned before, casting Maciej's role took the longest. They interviewed about 300 candidates and none of them fit. Kirył recalls it was right after he signed a deal with an agency for the first time in his life and he immediately received a call after his first cinema audition and it was 1670, of course! However, he reports that the process was extremely long - he had to go through several stages, each one of them revealing more and more of the script and he wasn't informed it would take that long
The creators said they looked for someone who'd understand the character and his role in the film - as he is the eyes and ears for us, people from XXI century. "He's basically like a viewer of the events, one of us", Kordian Kądziela (director, episodes 5-8) says. It was important he had a good chemistry with Martyna (she was the first and only "Aniela" he had to do short scenes with and the chemistry was immediate) and was able to break the fourth wall properly - he had to have the talent to comment current events with just one look and I personally think he does it perfectly. The actor was also supposed to be "easily likeable by girls"
The first scene they shot together - meaning as Aniela and Maciej - was the dance scene and Kirył says it's his favourite scene in the entire show
Kirył said the scene with the magnate's son was initially very aggressive on his part, however, after speaking to the directors, he decided to tone it down as it was, indeed, not fit for the character to be this angry
they all said, once they got down to it, they had a feeling they were a part of something special
Feel free to add your trivia or correct me if I'm wrong.
