You’re screwed. You know that you’re screwed.
Surely, there’s a rule book for these kinds of situations, and rule number one tells you in big, blinking neon letters that you should absolutely, under no circumstances, not ever fall in love with your roommate. Especially not if he also happens to be your best friend.
And yet.
Trouble is that Bucky Barnes is the type of guy that makes it very, very difficult not to fall for him.
Honestly, you should have known better when Nat had suggested the two of you move in together, that night at the bar right after college, “since you’re both new in town and all”. You’d almost spat your drink in her face when she waved him over to where you were sitting, because there was no way in hell a man called James looked like that.
“Friends call me Bucky, actually,” he’d said, a smirk on his lips that went straight to your core.
Natasha glanced between the two of you with that smug look of hers, and you shot her a warning glare because she knew. She knew from the moment you awkwardly shook Bucky’s hand that he was gonna mean trouble for you, with his leather jacket and his blue eyes and his fucking horrible tendency to be both suave and sheepish within the same sentence.
So how are you supposed to say no after that?
It’s so easy to grow close to him, too. Way too easy. You fall into a routine with such effortlessness it has you wonder how you've ever managed without him at all. Grocery runs after work and movie nights on tired Friday evenings, conversations that would be nonsensical to anyone eavesdropping, dreary-eyed breakfast at 2 p.m. Quickly, it becomes difficult to remember a time in your life that didn’t include Bucky.
Needless to say, it’s a struggle.
Thankfully, you come up with a brilliant plan about a month into your new living arrangement. Or rather, your friends do.
“You should kill him.”
“Darcy!”
“What?” Darcy tucks into her mozzarella sticks. “We’d claim temporary insanity in court, if he’s that hot, there’s no way the jury wouldn’t understand.”
“You’d make an awful lawyer,” Colleen says drily, continuing to pat your head awkwardly.
Darcy raises one impeccable eyebrow. “Got some better idea to save Y/N from Barnes’ death grip, buzzkill?”
“Remember before I broke up with Danny?”
You snort at the visceral shudder that goes through Darcy. “Those were the dark days.”
“Hah.” Colleen rolls her eyes. “Anyway. I wrote down every single time he did something that pissed me off, and whenever I felt myself falling into old habits, I went over the list. Worked like a charm. I was over him like that.” She snaps her fingers.
“And thus, another national holiday was born,” Darcy says, clinking her bottle against Colleen’s. “May we always commemorate Independrandce Day to remind ourselves that bad times don’t last.”
“All the things that piss me off?” you ask doubtfully. “I want my crush to go away, not make my apartment unbearable to live in.”
“Just try it for a while, then,” Colleen shrugs. “If it doesn’t work, you can still resort to physical violence. There’s an open spot in my Thursday class.”
You’re busy Thursdays.
It’s almost surprising how little time passes until you need to take your friend’s advice. You’re just headed into the kitchen to grab a snack before you leave for work when you screech to a halt.
“What the fuck are you doing?”
Bucky turns around slowly, having the audacity to look confused even as he’s still holding the bottle. “Having a drink?”
“Of milk?” you say, trying not to actually gag. He’s lucky you’re not a milk-sharing household or you wouldn’t be able to stop yourself from going off.
“Gotta keep my bones strong.” There’s a glint in his eye as he says it, too, because at this point he already knows exactly how to rile you up. He loves seeing you explode.
This time, though, you won’t give him the satisfaction.
Slowly, an empty smile on your face, you pull out your phone. Bucky, you are an actual horrible disgusting psychopath, you type with a forced sense of serenity. who tf drinks milk straight from the bottle.
You feel strangely better after that and another deep breath.
“I’m gonna go now,” you tell him a bit too sharply and turn on your heels. You’ll get food on your way.
It quickly turns into a habit. Every time he does something small that would normally set you off, you open your notes app and write it out, instead. It helps at least somewhat to stop romanticizing your situation. Level things out a little.
Because the truth is, Bucky Barnes absolutely aggravates you sometimes, and it’s good to remind yourself of those times when he’s once again wandering around the apartment in nothing but his sweatpants.
“Jesus, Buck,” you say, slumping down on the couch a few feet away from him. “Would it kill you to wear a shirt every once in a while?”
“It’s like a hundred degrees in here,” Bucky whines, not moving from where he’s reading.
“So? You don’t see me strip naked.”
His smile is lazy, but his eyes sparkle with amusement as he turns his page. “I know, and it’s a shame.”
“Fuck off, Barnes.” Your cheeks are on fire and you can only hope he can’t tell. “Nat’s gonna be here in five minutes.”
“Okay,” he says, not moving an inch.
You stare at him incredulously. “Can you please put some clothes on?”
“I am wearing clothes,” Bucky states dryly. “Besides, Nat won’t mind.”
“Dot might,” you mumble, but he ignores you. Not that you expected him to; his on-again, off-again relationship has been a topic of contention for a while now, and not because of you.
Truly, you’ve been doing a lot better lately, keeping a lid on your feelings. Which is why you’re able to look at him and his naked torso and his arms and be completely fine. Really. You pull your gaze to the book he’s holding and frown.
“Is that mine?”
Bucky finally glances at you, looking almost bashful. “You said it was good.”
You blink in surprise. You did say that, but not to him. You remember telling Colleen how much you loved it the last time you were facetiming in the living room while Bucky was perched at the kitchen counter with a bored, absent expression on his face as he silently scrolled through something on his phone.
The fact that he listened makes you choose to ignore that he’s definitely going to ruin the spine if he keeps holding the book like that.
“How do you like it?” you ask, voice slightly higher than usual.
“It’s great.” His smile returns, and you will never be sick of him looking like that, looking at you like that. So content.
The doorbell wakes you from your trance with a start.
Bucky sighs quietly as he carefully places a bookmark between the pages and gets up from the couch, rolling his shoulders. You watch him as he shuffles away to his room without another word, sweat making the hair stick to his neck. It takes you another moment to stand up yourself.
You pull out your phone as you wait for Nat to get upstairs, hesitating for a moment before you open your notes app. The feeling in your stomach uncoils.
***
There are days, despite your best efforts, that you still let yourself hope. Like when Bucky makes enough pancakes for dinner to feed an entire football team and you talk about the book he’s borrowed over maple syrup and jam until it’s eleven at night. Or when you’re out with your mutual group of friends and his gaze always finds yours after he’s made a joke, as if to gage your reaction, as if to make sure to catch a spark of amusement in your eyes.
Other times, like right now, you simply don’t have the time to question your relationship too much.
While the prospect of your upcoming promotion is great, it leaves you with an almost insurmountable pile of work that’s to be done as soon as possible, and the long hours make you putter around the apartment like a zombie. Thankfully, Bucky’s been avoiding you while you’re in this state, spending his days at Dot’s, or at Steve’s. You’re sure he’s told you at some point, but you don’t really remember.
You’ve set up your little work space in the living room, because it’s the only room with proper light in it. Most of your time is spent on the couch, noise-canceling headphones on and trying to focus on what feels like seven different projects at once. You miss feeling the sun on your skin.
As you’re trying to get your eyes to focus on the numbers and nonsensical reports flickering over your laptop screen, you notice movement in your peripheral vision. You flinch, pulling off your headphones, and then blink.
Bucky freezes mid turn, clearly not having expected you to notice him. “Sorry,” he says. “I just got home.”
Your stare remains fixed on the table. Your favorite mug is filled to the brim with tea, placed delicately on the previously empty coaster next to your pile of books.
“You looked like you needed it,” he continues, and your heart swells.
“Thank you,” you mumble and he shrugs.
“Dinner should be here in twenty, if you want some.”
You nod, watching the steam curl when he leaves you to your reports again. Strange, how easy it is to suddenly overthink a cup of tea.
You wait a couple of minutes for it to cool, then take a tentative sip. Your nose scrunches up.
He’s oversteeped it to the point of no return.
Still, you find yourself drinking most of it, because for some reason you can’t bring yourself to just pour it down the drain. It’s like you can’t quite let go of the gesture.
When the week is finally over, you both sit on the fire escape with a drink in your hands and breathe in the cool early night air. There’s undone dishes and at least three machines’ worth of laundry and a thousand other things demanding your attention, but for now, for this one evening, you’re finally content to do absolutely nothing and do it guilt-free.
It’s nice to just sit next to each other in utter silence as you watch the people below hurry along home through the traffic. The streets smell like spilled gasoline and the very last fringes of summer. The sun is setting at a deliciously lazy pace.
Bucky nudges you and points to the other side of the street. You coo as you watch the corgi waddle around the corner, almost itching for your phone to take a picture. Instead, you look up.
The sky looks beautiful, as if someone had softly smudged the deepest blue ink while it was still drying and dabbed the most glorious shades of pink and orange at the edges. A plane goes by overhead, blinking and leaving a trail of gray across the vast firmament.
“You know,” you say, leaning your head against the wall. “When I was little, I used to think these clouds were made of cotton candy.”
Bucky doesn’t laugh, but you feel the smile radiating from him without even turning. It’s like that, between you. Random thoughts are never weird. Only there to be outweirded.
“I used to think the moon was made of cheese,” he offers tonight.
You do laugh, then, short and loud. When you meet his eyes again, they’re the color of the darkest parts of the sky, and the look on his face is indescribable. Almost like surprise. It sends a chill through you.
“What?” you say, and he shakes his head.
A car alarm goes off in the distance, and you avert your gaze again, pulling the blanket tighter around your shoulders. Bucky’s phone vibrates with a message, but he doesn’t duck inside like you expect him to. Instead, you both sit there until the sun has fully disappeared, and something seems to settle.
It’s a setback that follows you well into the next year.
“I vote arsen or arsenic,” Darcy says. “You have insurance, right?”
She reaches over to grab your phone, swiftly entering the pincode with that set frown of hers as if she’s trying to hack into the pentagon again.
“I doubt they cover homicide,” you deadpan.
“Manslaughter, actually” she reads from your phone. “In the first degree. Ow!” She rubs her shin.
“Who are we getting rid of?” Natasha asks, sliding back into the booth next to you.
“No one,” you say at the same time as Darcy says, “Barnes, duh.” You give her a sharp look. She sticks her tongue out at you.
Nat bumps her shoulder against yours. “How long has it been, coming up two years in June?”
“Shut up,” you murmur, taking another sip of your milkshake. “Darce, what are you doing with my phone?”
“Well, I’m done googling, I wanna see if you actually made that list.”
“What list?” Natasha asks.
“Okay, give me that.” You try to grab your phone back, but Darcy snatches it out of your reach quickly.
“Come on, you never tell me these things anymore,” Darcy complains and continues scrolling. “We used to have so much fun! Does he snore? Does he leave his socks all over the floor? I have a need to know!”
“And it’s making you rhyme, too.”
She’s still dodging your efforts to get your phone back while she’s talking. Natasha watches both of you in amusement, eating her cheesy fries.
“Hah!” Darcy exclaims and your heart drops. “I knew it, he seems like the type to break a spine. I can always tell.”
“Darcy,” you say warningly.
She gasps theatrically. “He killed Fernadette? You said it was an accident!”
“Plants die, Darce, it’s not a big deal.”
In the moment of her outraged distraction, Nat plucks your phone from her hands. She scrolls down once, smirks, and finally hands it back to you. “Change your passcode, WikiLeaks.”
You throw the phone back in your bag resolutely, cheeks burning.
Darcy pouts. “I didn’t even get to the good stuff.”
“You know,” Natasha says, dipping her fry into the melting whipped cream on your shake. “Some of this stuff you should probably tell him.”
“It’s fine,” you say through gritted teeth. “I’m fine. We’re both still alive, aren’t we?”
“Only because you’re boring,” Darcy rolls her eyes.
Natasha lifts her glass. “To two years’ survival in June,” she grins innocently at you.
As you clink your glasses together, there’s something in her eyes that makes you feel like you’re toasting an ultimatum.
***
It’s irrevocably over with Dot when Bucky officially breaks up with her the day before Valentine’s, which is a bit extreme even by your standards, and you’ve never liked Dot.
Matter of fact, it would have made the list anyway, but all the more so when he decides to wreck your following evening as well in the process.
Being eternally single, you’d planned a nice, relaxing night home alone with a movie and some takeout to keep you from obsessively refreshing Instagram as a way to torture yourself. Cozy, quiet, totally not alone forever.
Instead, you now have a sullen-faced Bucky to contend with.
“If you’re gonna be moping all night, you can do it in your room,” you finally snap after he’s complained about your choice of food, the candle you wanted to burn in the living room, and how you decided to eat the giant box of chocolates you’d treated yourself to.
“I’m not,” Bucky says mopingly.
You roll your eyes. “Seriously, you couldn’t have chosen literally any other day of the year to break things off with her? There are a lot of them, you know.”
Bucky throws a pile of chocolate wrappers at you. You retaliate with a pillow to his face.
There’s a second for you to laugh at his expression, when he’s still too stunned to react, before the pillow comes flying back to hit you in the temple and you almost fall off the couch with a shriek.
“Aren’t you supposed to be nice to me?” Bucky asks, grabbing a pillow in each hand to use as defense.
“Pretty sure that’s a dumpee privilege,” you say, mimicking what he’s doing.
You stare at each other for a second, then Bucky throws one of the pillows he’s holding at your head. It lands on the floor as you block it with your own, taking the unlit candle down with it. You smack another of your pillows at his face.
Finally, there’s a little glint in his eye again. “I thought you didn’t like her.”
“Doesn’t mean she deserves to be dumped on February thirteenth,” you say. The second pillow misses and Bucky’s grin turns feline. Shit.
Slowly, you put one foot on the floor, Bucky watching your every move. You can see the pillow on the floor out of the corner of your eye.
You dart towards it and Bucky throws his second pillow. You duck. Your chocolates go flying to the ground, scattering everywhere. Both of you grab the floor pillow at the same time, struggling for it.
“Dickhead,” you gasp, thinking of your nice ruined chocolates. You twist to wrangle the pillow out of his grasp, but in doing so stumble. Bucky, to his credit, tries to stop your fall, but you only take him down with you, landing uncomfortably on top of each other on the couch.
Your breath hitches when you feel his weight on you, closer to him than you’ve ever dared before. There’s something in the depths of his eyes that makes it very hard to have a single coherent thought.
“Maybe,” Bucky says, and there’s a tiny crack in his voice as if he knows it, too, “I was sick of pretending.”
Time seems to freeze. He doesn’t move, and his face doesn’t change as he looks at you, not really. It’s just Bucky. Just … everything.
You can feel heat rising.
The doorbell saves you from embarrassing yourself further. You can hear Bucky cursing under his breath as you gently shove him off you and hurry to the door, your heart still thundering.
It’s a moment you keep replaying in your mind obsessively even weeks later, as if remembering it as often as possible would change the outcome at all. Would stop your food from arriving at that exact moment, and instead …
Going down that line of thought is a dangerous game, especially now that you’ve seen the freckle next to his mouth up close, delicately placed there like a dimple, like it was painted with the softest brush. It begs to be kissed.
Sam’s voice calling your name snaps you back to the present and you lock your phone, sharply turning on your heel and almost spilling the buckets of popcorn you’re precariously holding in one arm while attempting to balance the nachos with the other.
“Isn’t that a lot of snacks for four people?” Bucky asks, taking some of the stuff off you.
You don’t meet his eye and frown instead. “Why four people?”
“Nat just sent a text,” Sam says, his arm still around Misty’s waist. “Apparently Steve’s got a cold and they’re staying home.”
And with Joaquín still in Mexico and Darcy running so late at work she’d meet you at the bar later, your group of eight had just been reduced to a date with a plus two. Wonderful.
“Did you only get salty?” Bucky asks, already eating as you make your way to your seats.
“Of course not,” you say, keeping the second bucket out of his reach. “But we’re sharing these. Every time I trust you with the popcorn they’re mysteriously gone ten minutes into the movie.”
“Ain’t no mystery about it,” Bucky says. “Gimme some.”
“No!” You sit down between him and Sam. “You can wait until the trailer show at least.”
“That might be hours! I could starve by then!” He looks at you with his saddest puppy dog eyes, and it might have worked on you, too, had you not had this exact discussion several times before. “Please?”
You cross your arms over the bucket so that he won’t just reach over. “Nope.”
Sam grins. “You got a ruthless one there, Buck.”
The lights go down before anyone can notice the slight twitch in your expression.
Bucky does make it all the way through the trailer show before he starts shifting in his seat, softly tugging at your sleeve. You keep staring at the screen.
“Come on, sweets,” he whispers and you swear you feel all the hairs in your neck stand up. You don’t turn your head or move your arms. He leans over until his head is basically on your shoulder, his knee nudging yours, his hand sneaking for the bucket in your lap.
“The popcorn. Stays. With me,” you hiss. You’re tempted to slap his fingers away, but you find yourself completely immobilized.
“You said you’d share,” Bucky says into your ear. His entire arm is pressed against yours now, and it takes everything in you not to tremble. “Just let me have what’s mine.”
You can only hope no one will ask you about any particulars of the movie later on.
***
You don’t expect it all to fall apart so soon after that.
“Well,” Darcy says as the five of you huddle underneath the tiny awning in front of the bar. “I sure am glad I still came out tonight.”
It’s pouring down in buckets, the wind tearing at your jackets, the sky pitch black. The nearest subway station is a seven minute walk away, and you share a total of two umbrellas between you, one of them snatched from the lost and found box at Luke’s.
“Any of us going in the same direction?” Misty asks, opening her own umbrella. Sam takes it out of her hand to cover them both.
“Not really,” you answer, looking at Bucky. “Uber?”
He nods. “My phone’s empty, though.”
“Jesus, why isn’t this working?”
You snort, unlocking your phone without looking and pressing it into Bucky’s hand before hurrying to assist Darcy in her fight with the lent umbrella. “You need to hold it against the wind. Seriously, for someone with two PhDs—”
It finally snaps open, cutting off Darcy’s cussing. Her glasses are already blurred with raindrops.
“Well,” Sam says. “We’d offer to wait with you, but I don’t think this is gonna get better any time soon, so …”
“Just go,” you reassure him. “I’m sure we won’t be long, either. Right, Buck?”
“I don’t know,” he says, and the unexpected iciness in his tone makes you turn around slowly.
You have never seen this kind of look on his face, that coldness skewing his beautiful features into an ugly mask. In his eyes, there’s nothing, not even a trace of the fondness that swirled in them less than a minute ago. Your heart drops.
“Are you alright?” you ask softly.
“Great,” he says brusquely, shoving your phone back in your hand. “In fact, I think I might go on a walk.”
And without a word of goodbye, without a second glance, Bucky walks out into the opened floodgates.
For a moment, none of you can do anything but gape after him in disbelief. He doesn’t turn when you call his name, doesn’t seem to hear it at all. His hair is wet through immediately, sticking heavily to his neck, but it’s like he doesn’t notice the rain, his hands shoved into his pockets as he turns a corner and disappears out of your sight.
“What’s wrong with him?” Sam asks, and even though you understand why the question is directed at you, it feels like an accusation.
“I don’t know, I—”
It’s then that you glance at your phone, still opened to your notes app, and your stomach plummets again as you read your own angry, frustrated words. I actually hate you, you know that? Hells even wrong with you.
Your vision blurs.
You want to vomit, vomit or cry or both, but there’s no time.
“Take this,” you say to Darcy, pushing your phone and bag into her startled hands before you run. The wind and rain whip in your face, but you don’t care.
You have to find Bucky. You have to tell him that this is all a misunderstanding, a terrible, terrible error.
Youre such a fucking idiot.
Your boots splash water in all directions as they hit the pavement. Slow. You’re too slow. “Bucky!”
This was a mistake. I shouldve never moved in with you.
When you reach the corner of the street, Bucky is long gone.
***
You’re not sure how long you stand there in the rain before they catch up with you, huddling you between them and their two umbrellas until you stop crying long enough to get into the car they’ve called for you.
Darcy climbs into the seat beside you, and by the look on her face you can tell that this time, she’s read the entire thing.
She doesn’t say anything about it, for once keeping her mouth shut as she fishes for your keys and lets you both into the empty apartment. She’s offered to take you to her place for the night, but you shook your head so vehemently at the thought you got dizzy with it.
Maybe he’d come home. Maybe there’s still a chance to clear this thing up.
But his shoes aren’t there when you stumble through the door, and it’s cold in here. As cold as the look in Bucky’s eyes had been.
Darcy forces you into the shower, and when you get back out, there’s a steaming cup of tea waiting in your favorite mug. Of course, she still doesn’t quite understand why that only makes you cry again.
“I fucked up, didn’t I?” you whisper as she wraps her arms around you.
There’s a long pause before Darcy says, “He’s got no clue what he’s walking away from.”
You don’t plan on moving from the couch, so you get Darcy to agree to use your bed for the night. She seems hesitant to leave you, even if it’s just down the hall. You stay where you are, half-seated and huddled in the patchwork blanket Bucky’s mom had sent from Shelbyville. It smells like dust and homemade cookies.
The hours seem to tick by ever so slowly, and the only noises you hear are those of the city. You doze off every now and then, for no more than a couple of minutes at a time, your head turned towards the hall.
It’s very, very early in the morning when the soft click of the front door wakes you. The rain has reduced to a drizzle, the first hesitant rays of sunshine glimmering through.
“Bucky?” you call out quietly. His steps halt for a moment, as if he’s not expected you to be here, but he comes in anyway.
He looks terrible. The rain has molten off the terrible cold mask, but his expression underneath is even worse. He doesn’t meet your eye, doesn’t even acknowledge you sitting there as he walks past you, his dark circles not quite hiding the shattered, matted blue of his eyes.
He doesn’t react to your saying his name again, and the bathroom door closes behind him before you can get up.
You stand there, unsure what to do next, how to make him look at you, talk to you again. You’re still standing there, twisting your phone between your hands, when he comes out of the bathroom again only to vanish into his bedroom without so much as a glance at you.
Two minutes, you decide. You’d give him two minutes to get dressed and sit down.
The eternity of that time span seemingly flies by, and you make yourself move.
“Bucky?” you say quietly, putting your palm against his door.
Of course, he doesn’t answer. He’s not pacing, either, like he usually does when he’s upset, but in this case, you’re not sure if that’s better or worse. Swallowing hard, you open the door.
Bucky’s sitting on the edge of the bed, as if he’s been waiting for you, his head leaning heavy against his arms. He looks terribly small like this.
“Hi,” you whisper, awkwardly. Your face feels like it’s about to melt off. “Can we talk?”
He lifts his head slowly, as if each degree it takes costs too much energy. When he finally looks at you, it almost makes you flinch.
There’s a sadness inside them, mixed with tiredness, that you’ve only caught in your own reflection.
For a long moment, you just stare at each other, before Bucky finally says, “Do you want me to move out?”
Of all the things you expected, this is not one of them. Particularly not with this hoarseness in his voice.
“I want to explain,” you say, taking a tentative step closer.
Bucky huffs a dry breath, pressing the palm of his hand to his eye. “I think it’s pretty self-explanatory that you think I’m the ‘biggest pain in the ass the world has ever seen’.”
You cross your arms in front of your chest to keep them from shaking. “I know I wrote that, but I—Colleen said I should—that it would help.”
“Help what?”
“Make it easier,” you say, so, so quietly, but he still hears you.
“And did it?”
You shake your head slowly, uncrossing your arms. “It pretty much backfired.” You unlock your phone again. “You see, I was supposed to write down all the things you did that made me crazy, but at some point … at some point I started adding the things that made me crazy about you.”
Nothing but confusion in Bucky’s eyes as he stares at you, then at your phone. “What are you saying?” he asks softly.
You close your eyes. “You should continue reading.”
Your hands are trembling so hard now he has to take the phone from your hands to make out any of the words. The silence that follows is unbearable, but you don’t dare look at him. So you talk.
“Like, remember when you went to IKEA with Steve and I couldn’t come with you, so you got me one of those shark plushies and a whole almond cake?” You can’t help but chuckle, even though you don’t feel like it. “I tried reading into that for so long, if it was his idea or if I just got stuck in your mind.”
Bucky doesn’t say anything, so you continue, still not opening your eyes.
“Or when Dot used to stay over and you’d make me an extra batch of waffles to make sure I wouldn’t feel left out. Or when we stayed up until 4 to make those Christmas cookies, even though it was September?”
He huffs again. “I broke up with her that day.”
You do look at him, then. “No, you didn’t.”
Bucky’s still staring at the list on your phone. “I brought her the last of her stuff before Valentine’s Day. I don’t think it’d hit her before then, that she could be nasty about it all now.”
His eyes are very blue again when he turns them towards you, clear and focused entirely on you. It’s hard to keep your knees from buckling.
“Why didn’t you tell me?”
And there it is. The question that’s been haunting you for almost two years now, that’s been unspoken in Natasha’s gaze and in Darcy’s hug, even though they knew the answer.
Because you’re a coward.
“You’re my best friend, Buck,” you say quietly, your eyes burning. “I just didn’t … I don’t want to lose that.”
“Hey.” He stands in front of you before you even notice him moving, his hands cupping your face and turning it towards his. A shuddering breath falls from your lips. “You,” Bucky continues, “could never, ever do anything to lose me.”
“I almost did today,” you whisper and his face falls.
“I’m sorry I ran away.”
You shake your head and he pulls you into an embrace. His hair is still damp, but soft from his shower. He doesn’t smell like city rain, only the way he always does. As if it all had never happened.
And when he finally draws back to look at you with that glint in his eye, hands still loosely gripping your waist, it almost feels like a bad dream.
“So,” he says, and the cadence in his voice makes your heart stutter. You inadvertently move backwards, out of his grasp, and a wicked grin appears on Bucky’s lips. It’s impossible to look away. “She ‘didn’t deserve me’, huh?”
“She didn’t,” you say warily, watching him. He takes a step closer and you retreat.
“At least she never ‘wanted to burn all my shirts’.”
“And how would you know?” He’s still coming closer. “Just because no one’s done it …” You trail off.
Bucky hums. “No one’s ever told me my eyes ‘look criminal in this light’, either. Is that a good thing or a bad thing?”
“Bad,” you say, wincing as you bump into his dresser. “So bad.”
He’s very close to you now, his arms trapping you on both sides, towering over you. Your eyes flit between his own and his lips. That freckle.
The look on his face reminds you of late evenings on a fire escape.
Bucky’s nose bumps against yours, once, twice, as if testing the waters. You don’t think you can breathe. His eyes are so dark when he looks at you, the longing suddenly bursting through the surface, and you realize you’ve both been pretending for far too long.
His brows are knitted slightly, contemplative, as if he’s trying to commit you to memory. If he weren’t standing so close, you’d be shaking.
“Oh, sweetheart,” he murmurs, and the words explode into a million butterflies in your stomach. “You did get stuck in my head.”
And then he kisses you.
The rain stops.

not safe for work
pairing — dom!chan x sub!reader
word count — 3.7 k
warnings — pillow riding, humilliation, consensual videotaping, sir kink, masturbation, brief mentions of infidelity.
note — this is a special because i hit 260 followers! i started to write this a few weeks ago but never got myself to finish it. i don't really know how to feel about this but i genuinely hope you all like it!
finally friday
for the past couple of weeks your mind had been filled with stuff to do for work, your to-do lists driving you almost insane. plus, today was probably the unluckiest day of your life.
first, you woke up late. your boyfriend left to work before you so no one woke you up and you slept through almost all your alarms. then, you were ready to enjoy a cereal for breakfast but just right after you poured some on your favorite bowl, you realized that chan probably drank the milk that was left on the fridge and you had absolutely no time to go and buy some more. it was a rainy day, you were running late to work forgetting important papers as well as your laptop at home, the traffic was chaotic, you couldn't have breakfast or prepare something for lunch at work... everything was unfortunate.
your day just couldn't get any worse, or so you thought.
[7:48 p.m., you]
baby, i'm coming home now. are you there?
do you want me to bring something for dinner?
no answer from chan, again. he had been reading all your texts without replying for the last hour, but you didn't think anything about it. he is probably just busy, he must still be at the studio right now.
with clumsy steps you walked into the elevator of the complex you lived in, thinking about the chilly weather and how nice it would be to cuddle up with chan after dinner, but unfortunately you still had to do some work at home because your silly mind forgot your stuff there.
it was brought to your attention that the lights outside your apartment door were turned on, but you thought that you had probably left them that way before going out at work since you were in a complete rush. you exhaled deeply as your keys found their way into the front door, feeling calm for the very first time throughout the day.
you were so silly to even think about having a relaxing night though.
as you opened the door, the image of chan sitting in the living room couch was soon to appear in front of your eyes.
"channie?" you asked, closing the door after you entered the place "i thought you were at work, i didn't bring anything for dinner"
no response. you took off your coat and hung it on the rack beside your door, thinking about all the things that could've happened for chan to act like that.
he wasn't the type of man who would get angry over small things, so it really sent chills to your spine the mere thought of him not answering back your texts out of anger.
"baby?" you repeated, your eyes drifting from his body to the small cofee table that was located in front of him where your laptop was now located.
"anything you would like to share, goddess?" he asked, his expression going completely blank as his eyes drilled a hole into your soul.
your laptop and that petname...
"what did you saw?" you inquired, drowning in embarrassment. as quickly as you could, you tried to take your laptop from the coffee table but chan was quick to grab you by your wrists making you kneel instantly for him.
"how long have you been doing that?" he grunted, the grasp on your wrists becoming painful in a matter of seconds
"let go off of me" you cried, trying to withdraw from his grip.
"awww" he mocked, leaning down so his face could be at the same level as yours "my pretty baby spends 2 weeks being praised and worshiped by online perverts and all of the sudden she thinks she can boss her man around, isn't that cute?!"
you fucked up, and you fucked up badly.
"chan, i can explain, please" you cried, your cheeks turning bright red as the embarrassment wouldn't allow you to even look him in the eyes.
"i knew you were such a filthy whore but i never imagined you had these type of... preferences" he mumbled with rage, turning his gaze to the laptop screen that was strategically showing your direct messages on your most recent twitter account.
you couldn't recall what exactly drove you to the decision of making a not-safe-for-work twitter account but, one night that chan was at the studio and you were bored, you decided to share some of your thoughts about sexual activities. much to your surprise, a lot of your followers sent you direct messages with the sole intention to talk further about your past tweets. you had joined with the idea of exploring the dark side of a so casual social, but never expected to end up talking with strangers on the internet and, even better, making cash out of it.
"it's really amazing how someone can change their whole personality on internet, going around degrading men" chan laughed, cupping your cheeks with his right hand while two fingers of his left hand were dancing around your lips "but you submit to me so fucking easy, i don't even have to give you orders because you are that pathetic and obedient"
unconsciously, your mouth opened as chan's long fingers made their way into you "see princess? you are naturally a slut for me"
with eagerness you started sucking on his fingers as if your life depended on it. you couldn't deny it, being caught by chan excited you maybe too much.
"i read every single one of your conversations" he growled, his fingers deep into your throat making you occasionally gag and cry a little bit "i see that you are playing the role of a femdom very good huh?"
you could start to feel your damped underwear under the dress you decided to wear to work today, and it was painfully embarrassing.
"i think someone has to remind you who you truly are" chan stated, his nose rubbing against yours as his fingers were deep in your mouth, making your eyes roll to the back of your head.
without hesitation, and after pulling his fingers out of your mouth, he grabbed the top buttons of your dress and teared them apart, earning a gasp from you "chan!" you screamed, as that dress was one of your personal favorites because he had gifted it to you on your first anniversary.
"shut up" he spitted, his hands traveling all the way to his belt to remove it "you can buy yourself 20 new dresses with the money you've been earning by degrading those perverts on the internet, fucking slut"
without warning, he aggressively turned your whole body around as you were still on your knees for him "hands behind your back" and, with no doubt, you did as he ordered.
"just so you know, princess" he added, tying your wrists together with the belt that once adorned his black jeans "i am not mad at you"
a sigh of relief left your lips. you weren't really cheating on chan as you never sent them any explicit material, plus you tried really hard to keep yourself anonymous on that app for your own sake, but you would've understood if chan dumped you at that exact minute because the whole scenario just looked... too bad.
"i'm not mad, but i find it hilarious how good you are at giving them what they want" chan growled, walking towards your front so your mouth could meet his growing bulge under his jeans "i couldn't stop laughing at how brave you acted there, calling them all sorts of degrading names. you think you are that bold, huh?"
chan grabbed a fistful of your hair as his other hand danced around the zipper of his jeans, your core aching and practically begging to be filled right away. chan held your head closer to the side of his pubic area, his erection becoming more noticeable from that angle.
"i've been waiting for you to come home ever since i saw all those messages" chan grunted, his grip on your hair becoming a bit too painful as you tried to get into a more comfortable position but he wouldn't allow it, holding you right on place "reading all your messages made me so fucking hard, you want to know why?"
you didn't reply but kept looking and struggling to make chan's grasp on your ponytail a little bit less painful.
"when i ask you something" he exhaled, pulling your hair slightly so your eyes could meet his "i expect an answer, understood?"
with teary eyes you nodded. "yes"
"yes what?"
"yes sir"
chan softened his grip on you enough for it to become comfortable, but you were still at the exact same position you were a few seconds ago.
"the thought of you being so bold with everyone but me made me hard" chan continued, with his available hand freeing his cock from his underwear right in front of your eyes "there was something about you being all cocky and dominant with them that fueled my desire to make you submit to me even more"
carefully he stroke his cock right in front of your face with slow and painful movements. your body tried to approach him, but chan's grip made you reconsider the idea.
"what?" he scoffed "do you even think you deserve to have me fucking that filthy mouth of yours?"
your eyes looked up at him, a grin appearing in his face as he saw you drooling over your ripped dress. "are you that cock-deprived princess? you are drooling all over the place like a dumbslut"
"chan" you mumbled "please"
"please what?" he asked innocently, still masturbating to the sight of your face drowning in embarrasment.
"can i?" you asked him, slightly sticking your tongue out.
"look at you, y/n" he muttered, still with the biggest smirk you had ever seen on his pretty face "drooling and begging for cock as if you didn't spent days telling men how useless they were, isn't that embarrassing baby?"
tears threatened to start streaming down your face. you had been dating chan for over 3 years now and you both had a great sex life, but humiliation was not something he would often bring to the table. you thought you wouldn't enjoy it so you never suggested it, and chan was not the type of guy who truly enjoyed that kind of activities so this was a whole new side of him you never thought existed.
it made you feel bad, but it also made you feel extremely wet.
"i-" you whispered, licking your lips at the sight of his hard cock between his hand "i wasn't thinking, i'm sorry"
"clearly you weren't, princess" he replied, the movements of his hand becoming faster "if you would've thought things through, you would never had chosen the role of a dominant because you know that it is not who you truly are, right?"
you nodded "yes, i'm sorry"
"good slut" chan replied, carefuly leading your head so that your lips could touch the side of his cock.
his dick twitched at the rub of your wetted plump lips against it, making chan's face contor into a grimace. "you have no fucking idea how much i'm controling myself to not ruin that cute mouth of yours"
chan's hips moved slowly as your lips were dragged across his lenght, your hands still behind your back and chan's grip on your hair holding you in place.
"look at me" he demanded, your head falling slightly back so your eyes could meet his while your lips were pressed against his cock "stick your tongue out"
the side of chan's cock was still being dragged lazily against your flat tongue, making you drool all over it and your chest, chan amazed with the sight of you being in under complete control.
"you look so pretty that way" he growled "your tongue out while you drool all over the place, your hands behind your back like the obedient slut you are while you are on your knees practically begging for me to give you the slightlest touch"
"chan i'm sorry" you whispered, trying to do it quickly in order to continue on sticking your tongue out so he wouldn't get mad about it.
"how sorry are you, baby?" he asked, his cock twitching at the feel of your hot breath against it.
"very sorry" you rushed to reply, chan's dark gaze landing on you expecting more to that answer "very sorry, sir"
"good girl" he finally said, petting your hair as a sort-of-reward "it's not that hard, isn't it y/n?"
"no, sir" you answered, the frustration of not being able to move your arms or hands slowly building up inside you.
he pulled his underwear as well as his pants back up.
"come here" chan ordered, grabbing you by one arm and helping you stand up.
you couldn't deny you were totally scared, but at the same time you blindly trusted chan. "do you remember the traffic light system?" he asked with a much softer voice than before as he drove you to the bedroom you two shared. without giving a proper answer, you just nodded. "words, princess"
"yes, I do"
"good" the dark-haired man continued, stepping into the room right after you "because i have no intention on holding back unless that's what you truly want"
chan's voice whispering into your ear made you lose completely all your senses, making your damped underwear get incredibly uncomfortable. you stood by the door while chan moved around the bedroom gathering a few pillows and placing them strategically at the top of the bed and really close to the edge of it. "y/n, get on top of them"
your heart started to beat even faster than before, the heat between your legs growing painfully with each second that passed by as you gave him a confused look.
"don't act like this isn't the way you get off when i'm at work" chan scoffed.
with careful steps you approached chan, his hands carefully untying the belt around your weak arms. instinctively, you rubbed both of your wrists with your opposite hand once you were able to move them, the fabric of the leather belt imprinted into your skin and leaving a red mark that was probably going to be there for a couple of days.
chan got on his knees in front of you while dragging your panties all over your legs. "god, i wanted to fuck you so bad" he hummed, his lips touring every inch of skin while he followed the trace of your underwear being taken off. "i came home early today because i wanted to surprise you, and what do i find? huh"
you swallowed and bit your lips trying to hold back a whine. you felt guilty.
"my pretty innocent princess being a slut on the internet" chan got up from his knees holding your wet underwear on his right hand, looking at you with coldness and a bit of anger "my pretty good princess degrading and humilliating men on the internet for money"
the story of how you started to profit out of it is weird, but one day you just posted your paypal link for "tips" and a bunch of men, who came to you just to be degraded or humilliated, started to pay you. at first it was 5 dollars at much but, after a few days, they started to love the daily conversations and rewarded you for your "good job" as if it was your only source of income.
"get on top" chan repeated while his head pointed at the pair of pillows, one on top of the other.
you removed the rest of your dress with the rest of your underwear before you got on your knees and had both pillows beneath you, your naked clit rubbing harshly against the rough fabric of what was between your legs.
"if you moan, whine or cry i'll make sure you don't cum at all tonight" chan growled, aggressively grabbing a fistful of your hair so you could be a little bit closer to him "understood?"
"yes sir"
"go on, you already know what to do slut" he mumbled, losing any grip on you "or do you want me to give you instructions on how to ride a pillow?"
"no sir"
your hips started to move slowly against them and you cursed under your breath when you felt the slightest touch against your clit. normally it would take you a few minutes to set a good pace in order to start feeling something, but today the arousal was completely different and even the faintest touch could get you to crumble right in front of chan's eyes, who was now stroking his length at the sight of you masturbating.
"faster" he demanded. your hips moved in thrust as you grabbed the end of the pillow for support, your nipples hardening with every movement you made.
you had been doing it for merely seconds, but you could already feel the knot on your stomach growing bigger with each move and it was getting way harder to suppress your moans. the room was only filled with the sound of the pillows moving against the bed, your high-pitched breath and chan's breathing.
not a few minutes later, chan interrupted the silence "i want you to apologize" he ordered "and don't stop riding the pillow while you do it, y/n"
he knew what he was doing. he ordered you to be quiet and not moan, yet he is asking you to talk right when you are about to reach the highest point of your arousal. he knew you couldn't do that because if you talked, moans and whines would inevitably come out of your mouth.
"i don't have all fucking night" he grunted, still stroking himself even faster than before.
"chan" you sighed, your hips frenetically losing their pace as your mind concentrated on repress any other sound
"i'm listening" he replied with the biggest smirk
"chan i'm sorry" you replied. the last word coming out more as a gasp as a cry threatened to be heard
"sorry for what, exactly?" he continued "i can't understand you if you don't use your words"
"i'm sorry for-" you could how you were making a mess on the pillow that was beneath you, but you just couldn't concentrate "for what i did"
"and what exactly did you do, y/n?"
you let out a heavy breath as tears started to prick on the corner of your eyes. you wanted to ask chan for mercy, but you knew he wouldn't let this go unless you did as he ordered.
"i created a twitter account behind your back" you whispered "i started to talk with men as if i was a fem-dom"
"mhm" he hummed, the whole time just staring at your pathetic attempts to collect yourself so you could give him a proper answer "so?"
"i'm fucking sorry, sir" you replied almost yelling to mask the whines that were coming out of your mouth.
"you are such a slut" chan moaned, getting closer to you sweating body that was trying so hard to approach an orgasm that was probably going to be interrupted by him "say it"
"i'm such a slut"
"you are so fucking pathetic" the man growled, grabbing a fistful of your hair and slightly lifting your head up so he could see the tears streaming down your rosy cheeks "say it"
"i'm so fucking pathetic sir"
"do you want to cum, y/n?" he asked in a teasing way "you think you are such a dom but are you really just going to cum all over your pillow after less than 10 minutes riding it?"
"yes" you whispered without any strength to reply any louder. you were praying to the gods above chan would touch his heart and let you cum, but that scenario was just too good to be true "i can't hold it, i need to."
with his available hand, chan reached out to the front pocket of his jeans and took out his cellphone. "color?" he asked, your half-lidded eyes looking directly at the screen of the mobile that was now opened in the camera app.
"g-green"
chan got on his knees over the bed so he could catch a good glimpse of your face with the camera of his cellphone. the hand that was once gripping your hair was now stroking the sides of your face, drying ocasionally the tears as you tried to look directly into the camera while your high was approaching.
"how bad do you want to cum, y/n?" he asked, his thumb finger menacing to enter your mouth.
"so bad sir" you moaned losing complete control over your hips that were now aggressively rubbing against the pillow with no rythm or pace.
"repeat what you say earlier for me, princess" he ordered, a faint smirk appearing on his face
"i'm such a fucking slut" you whined, not caring about holding back or try to suppress any moan "i'm such a dirty slut and i'm pathetic"
"that's right" chan growled, two of his fingers now filling your mouth. you eagerly sucked on them as if your life depended on it, tears streaming down your face as the knot on your stomach came undone while he recorded you "cum for me, princess"
his wetted fingers left your mouth to touch himself as heavy breaths and sighs left his mouth.
"sir" you moaned, your whole body shaking as your tired hips thrusted for the last few times "fuck, sir"
"such a good fucking slut" he growled, looking directly at the cellphone that was now capturing how you came undone without his help "making a mess of herself just for me like the pretty submissive she is"
the thought of him recording you was the last push to have an extreme orgasm right in front of him that would leave your whole body shaking.
"chan" you cried, the highest point of your orgasm making your mind go completely blank as your eyes shutted close. chan came at the same time as you just by touching himself, his hot cum landing on your inner thighs.
chan stopped recording and put his cellphone away only to give you a kiss on your forehead "you did well, princess"
you looked at him with teary eyes "chan, i'm really sorry, i didn't meant to-"
"it's okay, y/n" he interrupted "i'm not mad"
you got off from the pile of pillows and fell into his embrace, your whole body weak due to the intense orgasm and your thighs completely sore decorated with chan's arousal mixed with yours.
"i will delete the account" you whispered, chan holding your naked body as if you were his most precious possesion.
"you know y/n, we could use that money for our savings" he joked before kissing the top of your head.

Undercover Hero- Part 16
Part 1, Part 2, Part 3, Part 4, Part 5, Part 6, Part 7, Part 8, Part 9, Part 10, Part 11, Part 12, Part 13, Part 14, Part 15
Supervillain held the door open for Hero as they entered their base.
“And you’ll keep your promise, yes?” Hero asked.
“No acts of villainy for a week,” Supervillain winked, “of course, Hero.”
Supervillain waved to Hero, then left the base to return to their own. Hero felt a blush rise to their cheeks as they watched them leave. Maybe they weren’t so bad after all.
“Had fun, did we?”
Hero whipped around to see Vigilante, their arms folded and their face cross.
“Vigilante.” Hero smiled nervously, “Hey.”
“Do you know how reckless that was, letting them walk you home- alone?” Vigilante said, “if Other Hero and I hadn’t been following you, who knows what might’ve happened.”
“Supervillain was just being courteous,” Hero said defensively, “I don’t think they’d do anything to me. They already tried that, and it failed.”
“Hero, how naïve can you get?” Other Hero stepped into the room, “that was insanely dangerous, what were you thinking?”
“I was thinking that Supervillain trusts me to make my own choices more than my own friends do!”
Hero clapped a hand over their mouth. They hadn’t meant to snap like that.
“Hero-” Other Hero started.
“No, it’s fine,” Hero said, “I’m sorry, I didn’t mean it.”
“No, Hero,” Vigilante said, “let’s talk.”
Hero, Other Hero, and Vigilante all sat down on the couch in the rec room. Hero fiddled with their fingers nervously. Why had they snapped like that? Was Supervillain still in their head after all?
“Hero,” Vigilante started, “what gave you the idea that we don’t trust you?”
Hero jerked their head up. They were reminded of the bug planted on their suit.
As if reading Hero’s mind, which they probably were, Vigilante spoke up.
“You know we only planted that bug to look out for you, right?”
“But don’t you think I can look out for myself?” Hero asked.
“That’s the thing, Hero.” Vigilante shifted in their seat, “In most cases, I’d say yes, but your track record with Supervillain shows otherwise. They see you as a target, not an opponent. They’ve been able to take you down easily from the very beginning.”
Hero avoided Vigilante’s gaze. That wasn’t true, was it? Were they really that easy to defeat? They were a hero, not a victim, right?
“Hero?”
Hero looked up at Other Hero. Other Hero was holding out a tissue. Hero lifted a hand to their face; it pulled away with wet, salty tears. They hadn’t realized they had been crying.
“It’s okay, Hero,” Other Hero said gently, “sometimes our enemies are just…stronger than we are.”
“I think I’m gonna go to bed,” Hero said, standing up.
“Hero-” Other Hero started.
“I’ll be fine, Other Hero,” Hero interjected, “I just wanna sleep on things for a little bit.”
Hero climbed the staircase to their room. They drew the curtains to their window shut and flopped down on the bed, not bothering to change out of their suit. They tossed and turned for what felt like hours, but they couldn’t seem to get to sleep. Finally, they sat up and flicked a light on. All was quiet, as quiet as a bustling city could be, that is. Hero got out of bed and crossed the room to the bookshelf. Maybe reading something would help them get to sleep. They picked out their favorite book and opened it. As they did so, a note slid out from between the pages. Hero picked it up and read the message written on the note.
Hero, did you enjoy our little date?
If you did, then you’ll really like what I have planned for you this weekend.
Once again, if you show up, it’ll be another week of no villainous acts.
Yours,
Supervillain
Hero flipped the note over to the other side. On it was the words, “Central Park. Friday, 3 P.M.”. Hero couldn’t help the blush that rose to their cheeks. It felt wrong to want to see Supervillain again, but was it really wrong if these little rendezvous were keeping people safe?
Hero went back to their bed and situated themselves under the covers. They would think more on it tomorrow. This time, when Hero laid down, they had no trouble falling asleep. They didn’t notice the figure outside their window, with two fingers pressed against their temple, making sure sleep waves rippled across Hero’s brain.

Not a single care in the World | Sebastian x Reader | Stardew Valley
Chapter 1; Part 1; bar
You’ve only spent a few days on your farm, but it felt like an infinity. Since it was Friday, you’ve decided to reward yourself for that hard work by going to the Stardrop Saloon. It was around 2 p.m. so there shouldn’t be a lot of people. I mean… There would be Gus, Emily and maybe Pam but you were fine with that. Gus didn’t interrupt your presence by any shit-talking so it was a perfect opportunity to get some rest. Plus, if there’d be Pam, they'd be too busy with themselves.
‘Friday in a valley like this huh?’ You chuckled to yourself. ‘They probably don’t even know what I was doing in my hometown on a day like this.’
While you were thinking about drinking some alcohol, you saw Pam and decided to jog up to her.
“Hi Pam!” You said not showing any exhaustement on my face.
“Mhm.” Pam responded.
‘Thank God! She’s totally not in the mood to talk.’ You thought and smiled at your own thoughts.
With Pam on your right, you went to the Saloon with her. You left her behind and ran towards the bar just to open the doors for her with a smile. She didn’t return it. Blond woman sat at the left of the table, so you went straight to the right side.
Just like you thought - there wasn’t anyone but you, Pam and the two workers.
You put your hand up so Gus would see it and come up to you to take your order. You’ve ordered a big beer. He immediately filled the glass and gave it to you.
‘It’s gonna be a long night’ You thought to yourself and started chugging the drink.
After a few minutes of sitting on a stool your back started aching, so you moved to a sofa nearby.
After an hour of napping on the couch, Gus decided to wake you up because people were starting to come to the Saloon. You were grateful for him even letting you sleep. You needed it after those 8 hours of work on the farm for the last four days.
You’ve rushed to the bathroom to make yourself look presentable, but it was occupied. You leaned against the wall and waited.
After 3 minutes you decided to knock on the door.
“Is anyone there?” You asked.
“Just wait a few more minutes for God’s sake!” Someone responded.
It sounded like Pam.
‘Damn she must be throwing up her whole stomach’ You laughed at the thought.
“WHAT SO FUNNY GOD DAMMIT?!”
“Nothing!” You said uptight. “Want me to help you?”
“Oh My God, go away!”
You’ve decided to listen to her and went to the mirror nearby. You quickly managed to
get some make-up on and fix your hair.
It was somewhat after 4 p.m.. To your surprise more and more people were getting here. You’ve seen that hot chick with purple hair that you wanted to be friends with sitting on a couch you were sleeping on before. There was a blond boy playing pool near her.
‘I wonder who that is.’ You thought while looking at them from behind a wall.
Cleaning off the imaginary dust of yourself, you put your head up and walked straight to them with full confidence.

The 2021 Perseid Meteor Shower Is Here!
Tumblr media
The Perseids are at their peak this week!
The Perseid meteor shower, one of the biggest meteor showers of the year, will be at its brightest early in the morning on Thursday, August 12, 2021 and Friday, August 13, 2021. Read on for some tips on how to watch the night sky this week – and to find out: what exactly are the Perseids, anyway?
Tumblr media
Credit: NASA/Bill Ingalls
Your best chance to spot the Perseids will be between 2 AM and dawn (local time) the morning of August 12 or 13. Find a dark spot, avoid bright lights (yes, that includes your phone) and get acclimated to the night sky.
Your eyes should be at peak viewing capacity after about 30 minutes; with a clear, dark sky, you could see more than 40 Perseids an hour! If you’re not an early bird, you can try and take a look soon after sunset (around 9 PM) on the 12th, though you may not see as many Perseids then.
Tumblr media
Credit: NASA/MEO
If it’s too cloudy, or too bright, to go skywatching where you are, just stay indoors and watch the Perseids online!
Our Meteor Watch program will be livestreaming the Perseids from Huntsville, Alabama on Facebook (weather permitting), starting around 11 p.m. EDT on August 11 and continuing through sunrise.
So… why are they called the Perseids?
Because all of a meteor shower’s meteors have similar orbits, they appear to come from the same place in the sky – a point called the radiant.
Tumblr media
The radiant for the Perseids, as you might guess from the name, is in the constellation Perseus, found near Aries and Taurus in the night sky.
But they’re not actually coming from Perseus, right?
Tumblr media
Credit: NASA/Joel Kowsky
Right! The Perseids are actually fragments of the comet Swift-Tuttle, which orbits within our solar system.
If you want to learn more about the Perseids, visit our Watch the Skies blog or check out our monthly “What’s Up” video series. Happy viewing!
Make sure to follow us on Tumblr for your regular dose of space!

just read the AMuS article, it’s sounding bad:
On Thursday morning, the trucks with the cargo trickled into the racetrack. The teams were promised the engines by 2 p.m. at the latest. Except for Alpine and Aston Martin, every team was affected. Ferrari, Alfa Romeo, Haas and McLaren had barricaded the garages because there was nothing for the mechanics to work on.
If you had your car and didn't have the engines, you expected eight to twelve hours of work. The worst affected teams expected a long night shift until Friday morning. All teams agreed to apply to the FIA to lift the curfew. The request was granted.

Sorry to bother tour, but about "Anne getting naked only with Ann" from the gif, Did she really undress in front of her? Did was that written in the diaries?
That scene will be so intimate... I think I will cry when the scene happens.
hello, about my comment on the second gif here – I think in the series they're gonna show Anne completely giving herself to Ann and I do believe that it will happen only with Ann Walker. I hope the whole thing is gonna play out as a sort of proof of how much Anne really loves Ann (since – I guess – we will not see her getting this close with anyone else). I do remember an interview where Suranne and Sophie talk about this scene and how important it is in the context of the Ann(e)s relationship in the show.
In real life Anne completely gave herself to Ann – meaning she got naked with her in bed – only after Ann agreed to "marry" her.
Wednesday 12, February 1834 > Long capital grubblling so that little time for sleep – she is to give me a ring and I her one in token of our union as confirmed on Monday – breakfast at 9 – Washington came for a little while – Miss Walker’s maid not much fit for packing – I did it all – books and papers etc. etc. in abundance and had not done till 2 – then off to Shibden – Miss Walker ½ hour here with my aunt and a few minutes in my study and off again at 3 ¼ – I went with her in an hour (her own carriage and man and maid) as far as Kings’ Head Inn near Bradford – and walked back and came in at 5/50.. having sauntered up the fields – dinner at 6 ½ – coffee and then asleep on the sofa – with my aunt from 8 ¾ to 9 ¾ – then with my father and Marian and sat up talking till 10/50.. – Affectionate to Miss Walker and told her I should not be long without seeing her – she desired me not to write anything particular – she meant of affection – which I promised – I certainly feel fond of her now, and if I was once really near her (no drawers on) and she was pretty well satisfied I should be at ease – she has often said she wished to be near myself –  civil letter came this morning from Quillacq Calais, to say the plate was sent off to Laffitte's –  and tonight letter from Lady Harriet – vide Friday – fine day – a hail shower as I returned over the hills after leaving Miss Walker this evening F47° now at 11 p.m. – my cousin came gently just after breakfast – [SH:7/ML/E/16/0168]
The 27th of February is when they finally exchange rings, a gesture which tightens and confirms their union.
Tumblr media
Thursday 27, February 1834 > No drawers on last night – first time and first attempt to get really near her [Ann Walker] – did not succeed very well, but she seemed tolerably satisfied – Rainy morning – could not have my own carriage, and [Meyers] could not get Miss Walker’s ready till 12 – breakfast at 9 ¾ – a little French – I ½ asleep over it – off to Langton at 12/50.. – damp rainy disagreeable day – She was poorly and tired tho she had got up so well this morning – I saw there was much nervousness about going to Langton but took no notice – I asked her to but [buy?] the gold wedding ring I wore and lent her six pence to pay me for it – she would not give it [to] me immediately but wore it till we entered the village of Langton and then put it on my left third finger in token of our union – which is now understood to be confirmed for ever tho little or nothing was said – At Langton at 3/05.. only Mrs. Norcliffe and Charlotte at home – surprised but very glad to see us, and very kind and attentive – CN [Charlotte Norcliffe] had heard of my arrival from Mrs. Milne – Mrs. Norcliffe now dines at 3, that we sat down to dinner in about ¼ hour – coffee – tea afterwards about 6 ¼ – Miss Walker much please with Mrs. Henry Robinson’s blazoning and with Miss Best’s drawings – our visit went off very well – all sides sufficiently pleased apparently – came away at 7/20.. and home at 9 ¾ – coffee – sat talking till 11 ¾ – glad we went – the Norcliffes very civil to her – her shyness went off and she seemed much pleased with her visit – Rainy day and evening – On the margin, in code, Anne notes: the ring [to] Miss Walker [SH:7/ML/E/16/0174]
Being near – for Anne – means to be completely naked during sex (she does specify when she keeps her drawers on).
Keep in mind tho that in real life Anne didn’t get naked only with Ann Walker. As I said, I think this will be different in the series and we’ll see Anne getting this close only with Ann, but let’s wait and see.
I hope I answered your question :) can’t wait to see that scene by the way, I’ll be like this 🤞🙏🏻 for the whole time praying it is gonna be glorious.

Spoilers
1. His polite demeanor
Along with his endearing satoori (regional dialect), one of Kang Si Deok’s greatest charms is his polite and modest attitude. When he was scouted by his soon-to-be manager, Kang Si Deok displayed his modesty as he told her that she could find plenty more people just like him just by stepping outside. In addition, he also gained favor with the PR team staff and elders on the street for his bright greetings and considerate attitude. Lee Seung Hyub further enhanced his character’s charm by using satoori and mixing it with his kind eyes.
2. His dedication to his dream
When Kang Si Deok decided to become an actor, his fervor and hard-working attitude were quickly noticed. While preparing for his debut, he practiced his script endlessly in order to get each scene perfect. Lee Seung Hyub transformed flawlessly into a character who exhibits limitless progress and passion, earning him plenty of praise and support.
3. A face you can’t take your eyes off of
Kang Si Deok won everyone over at first sight, from the restaurant customers to his manager. In addition, the scene where he took off his shirt while thinking he was in his own house also showed he had a body to match his face, and one most fitting for a star. Lee Seung Hyub proved that he not only perfectly embodied the personality of his role, but his physical appearance as well.
To see more of Lee Seung Hyub, tune in to “Sh**ting Stars,” which airs every Friday and Saturday at 10:40 p.m. KST.

A Jewish man was hit in the face while walking down a street in Brooklyn, New York Tuesday afternoon because he wouldn’t say "Free Palestine," according to a report.
The man, 18, and a friend were on Avenue M just after 2 p.m. ET when they realized they were being followed by a group of teenagers, according to Hamodia, a Brooklyn-based Jewish newspaper.
One of the teens approached them and demanded they say "Free Palestine." When the men attempted to ignore them, the teen allegedly punched one of the men, leaving him with a bloody eye.
"We didn’t acknowledge him," the friend told the newspaper of the teen’s demands before the attack.
ANTISEMITIC INCIDENTS SPIKED DURING SQUAD'S ANTI-ISRAEL RHETORIC, BLUE STATES AT TOP OF LIST
The alleged assailant and the other teens reportedly ran away, and the victim was taken to the hospital.
No arrests have been reported.
NJ MAN CHARGED IN CRIME SPREE MADE ANTISEMITIC REMARKS AFTER STABBING JEWISH MAN, ADL SAYS
Last Friday, a Brooklyn rabbi was attacked by a man who shouted antisemitic remarks at him, according to WABC-TV in New York City. The rabbi was taken to the hospital and no arrests have been reported.
A year ago, a group of teens who allegedly attacked Jewish teens in the same neighborhood, demanding they say "Free Palestine" and shouting "Kill all the Jews" were charged with a hate crime, according to Hamodia.
Antisemitic incidents in the U.S. have escalated over the last few years and last year was the highest number of attacks on record with 2,717 reports, according to the Anti-Defamation League (ADL).
Violent assaults increased by 167% last year, 88 up from 33, with a surge occurring during the Israel-Hamas conflict in May 2021.
"While we have always seen a rise in antisemitic activity during periods of increased hostilities between Israel and terrorist groups, the violence we witnessed in America during the conflict last May was shocking," ADL CEO and National Director Jonathan Greenblatt said in a statement. "Jews were being attacked in the streets for no other reason than the fact that they were Jewish, and it seemed as if the working assumption was that if you were Jewish, you were blameworthy for what was happening half a world away."
Another surge occurred in November and December last year.
Greenblatt added, "When it comes to antisemitic activity in America, you cannot point to any single ideology or belief system, and in many cases, we simply don’t know the motivation. But we do know that Jews are experiencing more antisemitic incidents than we have in this country in at least 40 years, and that’s a deeply troubling indicator of larger societal fissures."

Barcelona-Sitges-Barcelona, with Buster Keaton, Luis Alonso and Norma and Natalie Talmadge
[3-IX-1930]
The first photographs of Buster Keaton, Luis Alonso (1) and Norma and Natalie Talmadge, taken in Santander, in Granada, Madrid, etc, moved us all. With such a special and fantastic emotion that only movie stars provoke: wonder. Shadows in the distance approach. The figures of light from l'écran, the shining marionettes from black and white, are among us in the flesh. This flesh from the movie stars who seem to flash in and out of existence, as if they were nothing more than an illusion of images.
And here relies precisely the key to their success: their immateriality, their unreal and intangible quality.
The distance and the unnaturalizing photography of cinema and of the réclame have turned them into mythical and impossible beings, loaded with all the advantages of admiration, without any of the disadvantages of humanity.
✼ ✼ ✼
To round off the atmosphere of expectation and shock that the approach of the "luminous shadows" of the cinema generates, our stars (the Talmadges, Keaton and Alonso) have passed through our country in an exceptional way. This has not allowed us to forget the prodigiousness of cinema. All of them locked inside of a blue 90 HP Rolls, fast, restless and improvised, without any planning, fixed route or time. From one place to another, capriciously, using the freedom that the vacation time at the Studios allowed them.
This disorientation made it unlikely that we would be able to meet them in Barcelona. And it was even more unclear if they were in the mood.
✼ ✼ ✼
Nevertheless, they arrived at the Ritz on Friday night at 11 p.m. Tired and tanned.
And we greeted all four of them in the hotel lobby on Saturday at noon.
Norma Talmadge, whose beauty stays the same outside the celluloid, is so naturally beautiful, "young" and elegant as she is in her best pictures.
Her sister Natalie, Keaton's wife, is very thin and most sympathetic.
Buster Keaton, red as hell due to the sun of the fifteen-day road trip through Spain, has such a simple face that touches your heart, but the effect doesn't last. Because Buster Keaton is an authentic comedian, a true artist at all times. And he demonstrates this by explaining to us his hunting adventures in Andalusia:
"There are so many partridges that you can kill them with the blow of a cane. Bam! And into your bag."
With a priceless mimicry, we find him in the garden grabbing one of the ice cubs from the hotel ice buckets and taking a bite and eating a finger and all (his cut off index finger, so the trick turned out splendid).
Luis Alonso is a magnificent young lad. With all that romantic hair from “The Love Mart” and those superb looks which only seemed possible for the beautiful incredibility of cinema. Good fellow, modest and kind, astonishing. In a way you wouldn't believe he is a cinema star.
We take photographs of them non-stop and make them a little dizzy. Buster Keaton is sweating like a pig. And the ladies embrace the heat as a compliment from the "burning Spain".
"Spain is very hot!" but they are suffocating.
"Shall we go to the beach?" says Alonso.
"Very good!" cries out Keaton.
"To Sitges," we propose.
✼ ✼ ✼
In the first place we pass by an establishment to look for bathing suits. These are given as a gift, naturally.
At the door of the shop a crowd of people would give him the shirt he is wearing. The fact that Norma Talmadge, Buster Keaton and Luis Alonso are just a few steps away from them and in the flesh makes people turn their heads. Especially children. Children can't believe they are in front of "Pamplinas"(2).
"El comparsa! El comparsa!" they yelled.
One hour later we're at the “Vila Blanca". It's a very sunny day. The sea seems like a cradle.
Luis Alonso and Buster Keaton go swimming. The ladies are too tired.
"How do you like Catalonia?" we ask while they rest under the shade of an awning.
"A beauty. It is brighter here than anywhere else we have been."
"What do you like the most from what you've seen in Spain?"
"Everything. Everything. But Granada...Oh, Granada! Unforgettable. As well as Barcelona. It's a shame we cannot see more of it. We have so little time! Tomorrow morning at 8 o'clock we're setting off to Paris.”
While we have lunch, Keaton gives us his opinion regarding the talkies.
"Admirable. You see, I can sing alright. You'll hear... the rain fall."
"What are the actors you like the most?"
"Greta Garbo and Lon Chaney."
"Unfortunately," said Alonso, "we have been informed of his death with great regret. He was an intimate friend of Buster. And ours."
"Of all the films you've done, which one do you like the most?"
"Three Ages," said Keaton.
And Alonso and Norma:
"We say ''Camille".
✼ ✼ ✼
We've done what we could to catch Buster Keaton laughing. Impossible. As soon as a camera is pointing at him he looks like someone threw a bucket of ice water over him.
"A smile for me, Mr. Keaton," I ask him, making use of my qualities of a young lady.
Buster Keaton becomes more serious than ever.
"No! No! Laughing is forbidden."
A couple of steps away, the relentless "Metro" keeps an eye on him with his business contract in his hands.
"Laughing is forbidden."
In other words: it is forbidden to forget that Buster Keaton is "the man who doesn't laugh".
✼ ✼ ✼
It seemed as though half of the town of Sitges was around our table.
Alonso takes a child in his arms and caresses him.
"What's your name, maco?(3)"
The child cries in reply and the family scolds him, bewildered.
"Take good care of this boy, ma'am," shout some boys at the fortunate mother.
"This child sure is at risk of kidnapping!"
Then the signing begins. Albums, books of verse, notebooks, lottery tickets. Everything. Buster Keaton, Luis Alonso and Norma and Natalie Talmadge cannot keep up with all of their eight hands at the same time.
That's why the owner of the hotel doesn't let Luis Alonso escape, for he is the one who is paying.
✼ ✼ ✼
We flee.
The coasts of Garraf are a labyrinth of light at this hour. A labyrinth in which we wouldn't mind getting lost.
But we soon find ourselves in the Diagonal, and in the twinkling of an eye we're at the Ritz again. Our guests want to take a nap. Buster Keaton lets us know he's exhausted from driving so much.
We let them. And we say goodbye.
"Goodbye!" say the ladies.
"Goodbye," says Alonso.
Keaton asks us how to say goodbye in Catalan.
"Adéu," we say.
"Then...adéu," he says with a laugh. A charming, full of grace and optimism laugh.
A laugh that won't appear in any photograph or film.
(1) Gilbert Roland, born Luis Antonio Dámaso de Alonso.
(2) “Pamplinas” is the nickname of Buster Keaton in Spain. “El comparsa” is the title under which the film “Spite Marriage” was released in Spain.
(3) maco is a very common affectionate term in Catalan.
