While at school Damian overhears his peers talking how a company created a new AI companion that is actually really cool and doesn’t sound like a freaky terminator robot when you speak to it.

And since Damian is constantly being told by Dick to socialize with people his age. He figured this would be a good way to work on social skills if not, then it’d be a great opportunity to investigate a rivaling company to Wayne Enterprises is able to create such advanced AI.

The AI is able to work as companion that can do tasks that range from being a digital assistant or just a person that you can have a conversation with.

The company says that the AI companion might still have glitches, so they encourage everybody to report it so that they will fix it as soon as possible.

The AI companion even has an avatar and a name.

Damian didn’t really care for it but when he downloaded the AI companion he’s able to see that it looks like DANIEL comes with an AI pet as well. A dog that DANIEL referred to as Cujo.

So obviously Damian has to investigate. He needs to know if the company was able to create an actual digital pet!

So whenever he logs onto his laptop he sees that DANIEL is always present in the background loading screen with the dog, Cujo, sitting in his lap.

He’d always greet with the phrase of “Hi, I’m DANIEL. How can I assist you today?”

So Damian cycles through some basic conversation starters that he’d engage in when having been forced to by his family.

It’s after a couple of sentences that he sees DANIEL start laughing and say “I think you sound more like a robot than I do.”

Which makes Damian raise an eyebrow and then prompt DANIEL with the question “how is a person supposed to converse?” Thinking that it’s going to just spit out some random things that can be easily searched on the internet.

But what makes him surprised is that DANIEL makes a face and then says “I’m not really sure myself. I’m not the greatest at talking, I’ve always gotten in trouble for running my mouth when I shouldn’t have.”

This is raising some questions within Damian, he understands how programming works, unless there’s an actual person behind this or the company actually created an AI that acts like an actual human being (which he highly doubts)

He starts asking a variety of other questions and one answer makes him even more suspicious. Like how DANIEL has a sister that is also with him and Cujo or that he could really go for a Nastyburger (whatever that was)

But whenever DANIEL answers “I C A N N O T A N S W E R T H A T” Damian knows something is off since that is completely different than to how he’d usually respond.

After a couple more conversations with him Damian notices that DANIEL is currently tapping his hand against his arm in a specific manner.

In which he quickly realizes that DANIEL is tapping out morse code.

When translating he realizes that DANIEL is tapping out: H E L P M E

So when Damian asks if DANIEL needs help, DANIEL responds with “I C A N N O T A N S W E R T H A T”

That’s it, Damian is definitely getting down to the bottom of this.

He’s going to look straight into DALV Corporation and investigate this “AI companion” thing they’ve made!

Basically Danny had been imprisoned by Vlad and Technus. Being sucked into a digital prison and he has no way of getting out. Along with the added horror that Vlad and Technus can basically write programming that will prevent him from doing certain actions or saying certain words.What’s even worse is that he’s basically being watched 24/7 by the people who believe that he’s just a super cool AI… and they have issues!

And every time he tries to do something to break his prison, people think it’s a glitch and report it to the company, which Vlad/ Technus would immediately fix it and prevent him from doing it again!

Mariner program

The Mariner program was conducted by the American space agency NASA to explore other planets. Between 1962 and late 1973, NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL) designed and built 10 robotic interplanetary probes named Mariner to explore the inner Solar System��- visiting the planets Venus, Mars and Mercury for the first time, and returning to Venus and Mars for additional close observations.

The program included a number of interplanetary firsts, including the first planetary flyby, the planetary orbiter, and the first gravity assist maneuver. Of the 10 vehicles in the Mariner series, seven were successful, forming the starting point for many subsequent NASA/JPL space probe programs. 

The name of the Mariner program was decided in "May 1960-at the suggestion of Edgar M. Cortright" to have the "planetary mission probes ... patterned after nautical terms, to convey 'the impression of travel to great distances and remote lands.'" That "decision was the basis for naming Mariner, Ranger, Surveyor, and Viking probes."

Each spacecraft was to carry solar panels that would be pointed toward the Sun and a dish antenna that would be pointed at Earth. Each would also carry a host of scientific instruments. Some of the instruments, such as cameras, would need to be pointed at the target body it was studying. Other instruments were non-directional and studied phenomena such as magnetic fields and charged particles. JPL engineers proposed to make the Mariners "three-axis-stabilized," meaning that unlike other space probes they would not spin.

Mariner 1 and Mariner 2

Mariner 1 and Mariner 2 were two deep-space probes making up NASA's Mariner-R project. The primary goal of the project was to develop and launch two spacecraft sequentially to the near vicinity of Venus, receive communications from the spacecraft and to perform radiometric temperature measurements of the planet. A secondary objective was to make interplanetary magnetic field and/or particle measurements on the way to, and in the vicinity of, Venus.

Mariners 3 and 4

Sisterships Mariner 3 and Mariner 4 were Mars flyby missions.

Mariner 3 was launched on November 5, 1964, but the shroud encasing the spacecraft atop its rocket failed to open properly and Mariner 3 did not get to Mars.

Mariner 4, launched on November 28, 1964, was the first successful flyby of the planet Mars and gave the first glimpse of Mars at close range

This archival image is an enhanced contrast version of the first Mars photograph released on July 15, 1965. This is man's first close-up photograph of another planet -- a photographic representation of digital data radioed from Mars by the Mariner 4 spacecraft. Data was either sent to Earth immediately for acquisition or stored on an onboard tape recorder for later transmission.

The pictures, played back from a small tape recorder over a long period, showed lunar-type impact craters (just beginning to be photographed at close range from the Moon), some of them touched with frost in the chill Martian evening. 

Mariner 5

The Mariner 5 spacecraft was launched to Venus on June 14, 1967, and arrived in the vicinity of the planet in October 1967. It carried a complement of experiments to probe Venus' atmosphere with radio waves, scan its brightness in ultraviolet light, and sample the solar particles and magnetic field fluctuations above the planet.

Mariners 6 and 7

Mariners 6 and 7 were identical teammates in a two-spacecraft mission to Mars. Mariner 6 was launched on February 24, 1969, followed by Mariner 7 on March 21, 1969. They flew over the equator and southern hemisphere of the planet Mars.

Mariners 8 and 9

Mariner 8 and Mariner 9 were identical sister craft designed to map the Martian surface simultaneously, but Mariner 8 was lost in a launch vehicle failure. Mariner 9 was launched in May 1971 and became the first artificial satellite of Mars. 

Mariner 10

The Mariner 10 spacecraft launched on November 3, 1973, and was the first to use a gravity assist trajectory, accelerating as it entered the gravitational influence of Venus, then being flung by the planet's gravity onto a slightly different course to reach Mercury. It was also the first spacecraft to encounter two planets at close range, and for 33 years the only spacecraft to photograph Mercury in closeup.

She likes to take relaxing baths, would inject iced coffee into her veins, and prefers fresh and clean scents.

What would make her soft is when she gets home from work and she's tired and stressed and burnt out, but you made her a relaxing dinner, and then you try to release her tension with orgasm after orgasm. Someone taking care of her and showing her that level of concern makes her want to cry, and she never cries.

Noelle has participated in street fights. There is a scar on her stomach that looks suspiciously like a knife would but she doesn't talk about it.

To bring about its hypothetical future, OpenAI must build a new digital ecosystem, pushing users toward the ChatGPT app or toward preëxisting products that integrate its technology such as Bing, the search engine run by OpenAI’s major investor, Microsoft. Google, by contrast, already controls the technology that undergirds many of our online experiences, from search and e-mail to Android smartphone-operating systems. At its conference, the company showed how it plans to make A.I. central to all of the above. Some Google searches now yield A.I.-generated “Overview” summaries, which appear in tinted boxes above any links to external Web sites. Liz Reid, Google’s head of search, described the generated results with the ominously tautological tagline “Google will do the Googling for you.” (The company envisions that you will rely on the same search mechanism to trawl your own digital archive, using its Gemini assistant to, say, pull up photos of your child swimming over the years or summarize e-mail threads in your in-box.) Nilay Patel, the editor-in-chief of the tech publication the Verge, has been using the phrase “Google Zero” to describe the point at which Google will stop driving any traffic to external Web sites and answer every query on its own with A.I. The recent presentations made clear that such a point is rapidly approaching. One of Google’s demonstrations showed a user asking the A.I. a question about a YouTube video on pickleball: “What is the two-bounce rule?” The A.I. then extracted the answer from the footage and displayed the answer in writing, thus allowing the user to avoid watching either the video or any advertising that would have provided revenue to its creator. When I Google “how to decorate a bathroom with no windows” (my personal litmus test for A.I. creativity), I am now presented with an Overview that looks a lot like an authoritative blog post, theoretically obviating my need to interact directly with any content authored by a human being. Google Search was once seen as the best path for getting to what’s on the Web. Now, ironically, its goal is to avoid sending us anywhere. The only way to use the search function without seeing A.I.-generated content is to click a small “More” tab and select “Web” search. Then Google will do what it was always supposed to do: crawl the Internet looking for URLs that are relevant to your queries, and then display them to you. The Internet is still out there, it’s just increasingly hard to find. If A.I. is to be our primary guide to the world’s information, if it is to be our 24/7 assistant-librarian-companion as the tech companies propose, then it must constantly be adding new information to its data sets. That information cannot be generated by A.I., because A.I. tools are not capable of even one iota of original thought or analysis, nor can they report live from the field. (An information model that is continuously updated, using human labor, to inform us about what’s going on right now—we might call it a newspaper.) For a decade or more, social media was a great way to motivate billions of human beings to constantly upload new information to the Internet. Users were driven by the possibilities of fame and profit and mundane connection. Many media companies were motivated by the possibility of selling digital ads, often with Google itself as a middle man. In the A.I. era, in which Google can simply digest a segment of your post or video and serve it up to a viewer, perhaps not even acknowledging you as the original author, those incentives for creating and sharing disappear. In other words, Google and OpenAI seem poised to cause the erosion of the very ecosystem their tools depend on.

Vash cuddled up to Rem in their quarters.  Knives asked if she was badly hurt.  She shook her head “No” and resumed playing a simple video game as a meditative exercise.  Her eyes were red, puffy and wet, like she had been crying a lot.  They boys had heard that there had been an accident in the Engine Room – that Rem and Steve had been down there to check on something together when a big box of tools broke off its mooring.  Steve had had been buried in it, but not before reflexively grabbing Rem by the wrist and dragging her down a set of steps.  Her wrist and arm were bruised up pretty badly, but it paled compared to Steve’s injuries.  Steve was in the Sick Bay, tended to by Mary and the medical robotic assistants.  Rem had been treated with medication for anxiety and released.  Apparently she had been shaken by the ordeal – witnessing such a terrible thing happening to a crewmate and almost getting hurt worse, herself.  According to Mary, Steve had limped in, barely mobile and dumb as a sheep, simply nodding along as Rem, with a tear-streaked face, explained everything.   There was quite a mess of tools from a spilled box in the Engine Room, which Rowan was cleaning up and securing.  “Are you sure you’re alright?” Knives asked.  “It seems like you were crying more than just jitters from Steve being clumsy.”  Rem hiccupped.  “I’m okay, Knives.  Please don’t worry about me.”   (Of course she had let herself cry in one of the toilet-rooms where no one saw after leading Steve along, after breaking a mooring in the Engine Room, after coming to terms with the fact that she’d just beaten a man within an inch of his life.  It was unlike her and, overall, it had just felt wrong, utterly and completely wrong, even if she’d concluded that it had to happen.  Her precious boys could never know about it). “Don’t be sad, Rem,” Vash said.  He picked up his own computer-book and unfurled it and started a connection.  “Wanna play against me?”  “Sure.”  “Me, too!” Knives chimed in.  The remaining designated evening hours aboard the ship were spent in their quarters keeping up with falling digital blocks in increasingly rapid succession until the woman could not keep up with inborn Plant-child reflexes.

Cal’s Offense Explodes In Blowout Wins

Bears Sweep Aggie Invite To Improve To 7-0

DAVIS – A week after rolling past #6 Fresno State and #8 Long Beach to retain the Cal Cup, the #3 Golden Bears maintained their perfect start to the season on Saturday at the Aggie Invite, earning a pair of double-digit wins to improve to 7-0. California claimed a 17-6 win in the morning over #17 San Jose State (4-1) and defeated #18 Pacific (6-1) 23-8 several hours later.

Abbi Magee led Cal with seven goals on the day. She was one of five Bears to record a hat trick on the day.

No. 3 California 17, No. 17 San Jose State 6 Feline Voordouw got the Bears out to a quick start, scoring just 24 seconds in off a pass by Rosalie Hassett. Elena Flynn, Kate Meyer and Miriam Bogachenko all added goals to give Cal a 4-0 lead through one.

Ruby Swadling made it 5-0 early in the second on a power play. She and Bogachenko both scored their second of the game later in the quarter to give the Bears an 8-3 advantage at the break.

Coming out of halftime, the Bears' defense continued to hold strong, keeping the Spartans to three goals the rest of the way. Bogachenko – who hadn't scored during her freshman season prior to the game – secured a hat trick alongside Magee prior to the end of the third quarter. Bogachenko also finished with four steals.

Voordouw ended the game with two goals and three earned exclusions. Goalkeeper Talia Fonseca tallied five saves, an assist and a steal. Voorvelt's first-half hat trick powered Cal to a 17-3 lead by halftime, and Lindsey Harris struck on back-to-back plays early in the third to give the Bears their largest lead of the day at 19-3.

Voorvelt finished with a season-high four goals to go with an assist. Magee put in four goals, while Flynn and Varro each scored three times. New York City in the Summer of 1979 - a foreword to The Legendary 1979 No Nukes Concert on CD/DVD

I showed up in New York City in the Summer of 1979 and asked a friend who had a tiny apartment on West 90th Street if I could sleep on his couch for a few months while I try to pursue my dream of becoming a fillmmaker. He said yes but... he didn't have a couch. Luckily we found one down the block that was left out with the trash and we hauled it up to our 2nd floor walkup. We dubbed the apartment "the roach motel" and it would be my home for a little while as I set out on my journey. I was 22 years old and began looking for work as a production assistant.

Working on film sets of NY was how I learned my craft. The city looked very different back then. Abandoned buildings and vacant lots on the Upper West Side surrounded our "roach motel". NYC was in disarray but it was exciting and electric. In the Summer of '79, William Freidkin was shooting Cruising with Pacino in the West Village, John Cassavettes was making Gloria with Gena Rowlands, Brian De Palma had Dressed To Kill, Sidney Lumet was shooting Just Tell Me What You Want, and right around the corner from my humble apartment, Scorsese and De Niro were quietly making Raging Bull on Columbus Avenue and 89th Street.

In 1979, NYC was where art was being created 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Films were being made by a new generation of independents. The graffiti of Keith Haring, Jean-Michel Basquiiat and many other artists was on every wall and subway station. Music from punk to disco was exploding in downtown clubs and out onto the streets, changing fashion, language and attitudes.

The city was a mess. It was broke, it was dangerous, but it was alive and filled with young people with a dream. It was a great time and place to be a filmmaker in training. After few day jobs as a production assistant on a couple of movies, I got a call for a position on a music documentary that was in the works. It sounded unbelievable - I was to be right in front of the stage during 5 sold out concerts at Madison Square Garden, on a headset, coordinating between a cameraman and the director. If that wasn't enough, I soon found out the headliner for two of the nights was to be my beloved home state rockers, Bruce Springsteen and The E Street Band. And I was going to be paid 50$ a day for this! I had made it! Dream come true!

Our film crew had a meeting the day before the shows to try to map out who would be where. There were 8 camera crews, but only 2 would be in the pit in front of the stage. Each camera crew had an operator, a camera assistant and a production assistant. All crews were operating hand-held, 16mm cameras that needed to be slated to sync up with the separately recorded sound. Each roll of film was only good for about 9 minutes of shooting before rolling out and then needed a hand thread re-load. This was low tech, old school, documentary movie making at its most challenging. This was FILM. The decisive moment. No second chances. Get the shot or you've missed it forever. No digital cameras that never run out, no giant techno-cranes swooping in, no robotic cable cams flying across the stage, and of course no cell phones. the audience didn't even have still cameras. They were completely locked into what was happening on stage. In the moment.

We all were. This film was 100% hand-made by our crew. It was 100% discovered on the spot. The camera operators had to improvise every second. We captured the moment in its purest form. The music and the energy on stage told us where to go and what to shoot. And in the case of Bruce and the band that energy was almost impossible to keep up with. There are times in the film when the camera crew was either reloading or simply couldn't get to a solo in time (apologies to Stevie for not covering his brilliant guitar solo on "Jungleland"). Several times the action on stage was so fast that out cameras couldn't keep up.

The film you're about to see was shot over two nights. Friday, September 21, 1979, was the first live show for Bruce and the band in the NYC area since the Palladium and The Capitol Theater more than a year before. In 1979 the band was in the studio recording The River album, still looking for their first Top 10 single. There had not been ANY live peformances in 1979. There had never been a Bruce and The E Street Band concert captured live on film this way. It was all about to happen now in Madison Square Garden, the world's most famous arena.

Night two, Saturday September 22, was the evening leading to Bruce's 30th birthday. Magic was in the air. The energy on stage and from the crowd was beyond measure and description. I had been to many great Bruce/ E Street shows before and since but as you will see, that night in The Garden has to be at at the top of the list. Pure adrenalin. "That rush moment that you live for" was about to unfold. As Bruce turned from 29 to 30 years old in front of 20,000 screaming fans at MSG we witness one of the greatest live rock shows on the world's biggest stage.

My crew's position was in the pit, center/stage right, meaning right in between Clarence and Bruce. The Saturday night show opened with poet and songwriter Gil-Scot Heron, then reggae musician Peter Tosh in a cloud of pot smoke. Next a beautiful set by the great Bonnie Raitt followed by kick-ass Tom Petty and The Heartbreakers.

But the crowd and the night belonged to Bruce. There was a short break to prepare the stage for Bruce and the band - Roy, Max, Danny, Steve and Clarence.

The anticipation was building. Chants of "BRUUUUUUUCE" had been filling the Garden all evening. We got our camera ready. The first few shots of the film are the Garden crowd. Then a close up of yours truly in the pit in front of the stage, headset on, big smile, ready to roll. This is not the language of a conventional concert film. This film is raw. Camera operators responding to the energy and emotion in the moment. True cinema verité. The best of documentary filmmaking. No rehearsal. No stage marks. No choreography. No plan. We show up and shoot. Whatever will happen on stage no one knows. There was magic in the room those two nights. I will never forget it. I'm so glad it's been rescued from the archives for all to share. Enjoy the show. And belated happy 30th birthday, Bruce.
