Short Prompt #20
The creature unfurled it’s dark, fleshy wings, beating a wave of damp cave air over the explorers.
“Is th-that a vampire?” one said taking a step back.
“Vampires can transform entirely into a bat,” the other said following suit. “No bits and pieces. That’s for demons. …And that thing only has bat wings.”

31 prompts for October:Horror
Day 30: Dark forest
It was a dark and stormy night. Jake and his friends had decided to go camping in the woods, despite the warnings of the locals. They said that the forest was haunted by an evil spirit that preyed on anyone who entered its domain. Jake didn’t believe in such superstitions, and he wanted to prove his bravery to his friends.
They set up their tents near a clearing, and lit a fire to keep warm. They roasted marshmallows and told scary stories, laughing and joking around. Jake felt a surge of confidence, and he decided to take a walk in the woods. He grabbed a flashlight and told his friends he would be back soon.
He ventured into the darkness, following a narrow path that led deeper into the forest. He felt a thrill of excitement, as he imagined himself as an explorer in a mysterious land. He ignored the sounds of the wind and the rain, and the occasional rustle of leaves. He was not afraid of anything.
He walked for about ten minutes, until he reached a fork in the road. He had to choose between two paths: one that seemed to go uphill, and one that seemed to go downhill. He decided to take the downhill path, thinking it would be easier and faster. He turned left and continued his walk.
He soon realized that he had made a mistake. The path became steeper and narrower, and he had to watch his step to avoid slipping on the wet ground. The trees became denser and darker, blocking out any light from the sky. He felt a chill in the air, and he shivered. He wished he had brought his jacket.
He tried to turn back, but he couldn’t find the fork in the road. He was lost. He panicked, and he started to run. He hoped to find his way back to the campsite, or at least to the main road. He ran blindly, dodging branches and roots that seemed to reach out for him.
He ran until he stumbled upon a clearing. He stopped, panting and sweating. He looked around, hoping to see a sign of civilization. But all he saw was a large wooden cabin in the middle of the clearing. It looked old and abandoned, with broken windows and a sagging roof. It gave him an eerie feeling.
He wondered if anyone lived there, or if it was just a shelter for hunters or hikers. He thought about knocking on the door, or looking for a phone or a radio inside. Maybe he could get some help, or at least some directions.
But before he could make up his mind, he heard a loud roar from behind him. He turned around, and he saw a huge creature emerge from the trees. It looked like a wolf, but bigger and stronger. It had black fur, red eyes, and sharp teeth. It snarled at him, drooling and growling.
Jake screamed, and he ran towards the cabin. He hoped to find a way in, or at least something to defend himself with. But as he reached the door, he realized it was locked. He tried to kick it open, but it was too sturdy. He looked for another entrance, but there was none.
He was trapped.
The creature followed him, slowly and steadily. It seemed to enjoy playing with its prey, like a cat with a mouse. It circled around him, cutting off any escape route. It taunted him with its roars and snarls.
Jake felt a surge of fear, and he begged for mercy.
“Please, don’t kill me! Please!”
But the creature didn’t listen.
It lunged at him, biting his neck.
Jake felt a sharp pain, followed by numbness.
He fell to the ground, bleeding profusely.
He saw the creature’s face above him, smiling wickedly.
It whispered in his ear:
“Welcome to my forest.”

What is Inktober?
And what's the controversy?
Sunday 23/19/22
Tumblr media
So in 2009, a concept artist and creator named Jake Parker started a challenge, mostly for himself, to complete a hand-drawn art piece for every day of October. In subsequent years, other artists worldwide joined in on the challenge, and from 2015(sic), Parker has posted a list of prompts prior to October for artists to inspire what they'd draw each day.
Tumblr media
Originally, as the name suggests, Inktober participation would only count if you completed ink-drawn pieces on paper, often with a fountain pen, but it has since grown to a challenge incorporating all artistic mediums, include paints, music, writing, and even digital art.
But in 2019, Jake Parker made the decision to copyright the term "Inktober", meaning that artists trying to sell art under the "Inktober" title were receiving cease and desist notices or legal action would be threatened. Parker has given several reasons for the decision, including protecting his own work; books of his own art, and about doing ink art; and to not allow predatory profiting off the brand; people using the Inktober name of discriminatory tshirts or posters, selling merchandise using the brand name without permission from Jake Parker and his team.
Tumblr media
He has assured artists that it is not his intention to scare artists away from participating in Inktober, or selling their own art made during the challenge. But there are guidelines on how to avoid action from his team. Artbooks must use Inktober as a subtitle and not as the main title, ideally, together with the year of the challenge (e.g. Doorbloggr: Inktober 2022), and avoid using the official Inktober Logo in any merchandising.
In August 2019, it came out that Parker may have plagiarised most of the content for his book "Inktober All Year Long" from an artist named Alphonso Dunn, and their book "Pen & Ink Drawing".
Tumblr media
Rightfully so, this brutal stance and the controversy around it scared away a lot of artists from participating in the Official Inktober challenge. But luckily, the variety of artists that this original challenge brought in gave rise to iteration and elaboration on the idea. And so the Inktober spin-off was born.
October: A Month of Art
In the same way that Parker made prompt lists for each new October, many different communities made their own challenges with their own names and flavours. Many still have prompts for 31 days, while others ease it down to 16 days, or even once a week.
One of the first offshoots was Drawlloween in 2012. And from my own limited research, it may have not even been inspired by Inktober. It just so happened to also take place in October. Since October is Spooky Month, Drawlloween prompts are all based on Halloween, many very specific to pieces of spooky media and horror stories. In a similar vein, other Halloween themed challenges are Witchtober, Spooktober, Drawtober, and Goretober.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
INKTtober is a spin-off I've seen on a couple different social media's I'm on that focuses specifically on Tattoo art. OCtober or OC October is a common one I see on Tumblr where each day is about an artist's Original Characters or OCs.
Other artists have grown the idea of a monthly challenge beyond October. And I wanna specifically shout out @regal-bones for their beautiful work on Swordtember (Sword designs in September) this year. Amazing work.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Day 2: Candle, Day 25: Spider
And finally, the one that I have been partaking in, Linktober. Linktober is a celebration of the Legend of Zelda series. The challenge began in 2015 as a spin-off of Drawlloween, and in 2016, the team created their first full month calender of prompts.
Tumblr media
Each year of Linktober has brought a new calender of prompts and in some years, they even introduced alternate challenges that spice it up beyond just Legend of Zelda art. 2018 introduced Linktober Chance, where the prompt is only half finished and you roll a d6 dice to generate a more specific prompt. 2019 introduced Linktober Quest, where each day is part of a story about a Zelda OC you make and the adventure they go on to save the world. Linktober 2020 introduced Linktober Shadow, a counterpart to the regular challenge where every day is spooky, or about the villainous side of the Zelda series.
I want to talk more about my experience with Linktober, but I fear this post may be getting too long. So I will talk more about Art and Deadlines in a Part 2(?) to this post.
Thanks for Reading
A lot of the information I wrote in this blogpost I sourced from the following article, so I implore you to read it too if you want to gain more insight:
The Controversy with Inktober, Alexis Epinoza (September 2020) The Telescope
Also, if you don't already, please follow the tags #drawlloween #witchtober #linktober #swordtember or any other drawing challenges promoted across this and other sites. Artists love reblogs and if there's a fandom you like, there's likely to be creative people making things for you. So show them some love.

Gallatober: A Challenge
This is a challenge for myself but it is totally open to anyone else who wants to take part! Everyday in October I will be sharing a fic or art rec based on either something kinky (for Kinktober) or something spooky/Halloween themed (for Spooktober) or autumn/fall themed (because it’s that time of year!).
So it will be 31 days of Gallavich recs - I’m going to share some of my all time favourites but also try and find some new favourites by searching ao3 and tumblr for Gallavich creations which are kinky, spooky, Halloween or autumn/fall themed.
If anyone else wants to take part, please do! Feel free to use the above banner if you like or get in touch and I’ll make you one! This is totally casual so if you don’t feel like you can share 31 recs but still want to share a few, please do!

🎃SpookTober 31 Days Prompts🎃
Day 29: Candy Apples🍭
Monkey D. Luffy x GN!Reader. Fluff. Luffy loves food. So candy is no different. Indulgence. Luffy is so freaking adorable! Cute moments. SpookTober Prompt: Candy Apples🍭
●☆●☆●☆●☆●☆●☆●☆●☆●☆●☆●☆●☆●☆●☆●
☆●~Sweet Tooth~●☆
Tumblr media
You and Luffy head to a Halloween carnival and with the promise of popcorn and food, Luffy drags you over to sample some tasty candy apples.
"This is gonna be so freaking cool! I'm gonna win so many prizes!" You Cried as you and Luffy headed towards the Harvest Carnival.
"I'm gonna eat SO much food!!" Cried Luffy as he ran after you with a laugh.
The Harvest Carnival was in full swing, you had jugglers, acrobats and clowns all on parade with spooky attractions offering up scary experiences and the prize stalls were jam packed with super cute spooky plushies to win!
The food stalls were busy with customers lining up for popping popcorn, flaming hot dogs and swirling candyfloss, along with a stall selling scrumptious candy apples, a perfect Halloween season treat!
"I'm gonna try my hand at the game stalls" You Smiled.
"Food stalls for me!" Cried Luffy and the two of you headed towards your destinations. You arrived at the stall with super cute Halloween Squishmallows to win and you were eyeing up a few.
"Step right up my good customer! We have spooktacular plushies for you! All you have to do is win the game and you'll pick a prize!" Cried the game master.
"Okay!" You Agreed excitedly.
"Right, hit all the targets to win!" Cried the game master. You smiled and took the ball, lined up the shot and threw the ball, hitting the first target. You repeated this until all targets were hit and the bell sounded, signalling a winner.
"Congratulations! You are a winner! Now pick a prize to take home with you!" Cried the game master.
You picked out the super cute Mallow Mash Emily the Bat Squishmallow and you squealed with joy when you received it.
"Oh my gosh! She's so cute!!" You Squealed with delight as you cuddled the spooky Squishmallow with love. The Game Master smiled and you went along your way.
You bumped into Luffy on the way to the next stall, munching away on a bag of freshly popped popcorn with a big grin as he held out a hot dog to you.
"Here, I got you one too!" Grinned Luffy as you took the hot dog with a thank you and a smile.
"Did you get one for yourself Luffy?" You Asked
"I already did! 3 to be exact!" Replied Luffy with that big sunny grin of his. You laughed, of course Luffy would eat 3 hot dogs! His love of food, particularly meat was his favourite.
"See you won yourself a prize!" Remarked Luffy eyeing your Squishmallow. You smiled proudly at that.
"Sure did! Wanna try your hand at a game?" You Asked.
"Yeah! Let's go!" Cheered Luffy as you two headed to another game stall.
This game stall had you firing water guns into the mouths of these clowns who each had a balloon. If you filled up 3 of your clowns's balloons, you'd win.
Buggy the Clown was there and challenged Luffy instantly upon seeing the Straw Hat Pirate.
"You're going down Straw Hat!" Cried Buggy, snarling in Luffy's face. Luffy just smirked back, infuriating Buggy further.
"We'll see Bozo" Smirked Luffy.
"It's Buggy!" Snarled Buggy.
The round started and you watched anxiously as Luffy, determined to win went straight into the game. You watched as Luffy filled 2 balloons as Buggy finished his first. Before you knew it, Luffy filled the last balloon and won the game, the bell sounding off as Buggy cursed at the pair of you before storming off angrily.
Luffy picked a fluffy plushie of a Franken Bear Squishmallow and he cuddled it, sticking his tongue out at Buggy's retreating form.
"Wow what a sore loser!" You Remarked with a scoff. Luffy nodded in agreement. Buggy could be really childish sometimes and tonight was no different.
You two spent the a few coins on some games, taking part in a spooky haunted house experience before concluding the night with trying out the delicious candy apples.
"You've ate so much so far! Sure you won't get sick Luffy?" You Asked. Luffy laughed.
"Nonsense Y/N! If I can't get seasick, I totally won't get sick from eating a few candy apples!" Declared Luffy. You chuckled but went along with it.
You purchased two toffee dipped candy apples and Luffy purchased 3. You watched as Luffy took a BIG chomp outta his candy apple and a big smile came to his face.
"Is it good?" You Asked taking a bite out of yours and smiling at the sweet taste.
"It's REALLY GOOD!" Replied Luffy through a full mouth, making you both laugh together. You both nibbled on the candy apples as you walked around the lively Carnival, lit up by the bright lights, the smell of popcorn wafting through the air and the taste of candy apples on your lips.

Blogtober Day 1 - My October TBR
Blogtober Day 1 – My October TBR
Well, kids. It is time. It is officially October. Also known as Spooktober, Booktober, Blogtober, Vlogtober, Inktober, Drawloween, and my birthday month. It’s a lot. Last year, I did an insane challenge of reading 31 horror books in 31 days. I succeeded in finishing 24. I had a few DNFs but for the most part I liked what I read. So much so, I’m going to try to read them again this month. I say…

31 Prompts for October: Horror
Day 20: Nightmares
Morgana woke up with a start, gasping for air. She felt a cold sweat on her forehead and a pounding in her chest. She looked around the dark room, trying to calm herself down. It was just a nightmare, she told herself. Just a bad dream.
But it felt so real. She could still see the images in her mind, vivid and terrifying. She saw herself running in a maze of corridors, chased by a shadowy figure. She heard the screams of other people, trapped and tortured. She felt the pain of sharp needles piercing her skin, drawing blood and injecting something into her veins.
She shuddered and reached for the lamp on her bedside table. She needed some light, some comfort. She turned it on and blinked at the sudden brightness. She looked at the clock. It was 3:15 am. She sighed and tried to relax.
She reached for her phone, hoping to distract herself with some social media or a game. Maybe she could text her friend and tell her about the nightmare. Maybe she could find some solace in knowing that she was not alone.
She unlocked her phone and opened the messaging app. She scrolled through her contacts and found her friend's name. She tapped on it and typed:
"Hey, are you awake? I had a horrible nightmare."
She waited for a reply, hoping that her friend was online. She stared at the screen, feeling anxious.
A few seconds later, she got a response.
It was not from her friend.
It was from an unknown number.
It said:
"We know what you dreamt of. We are watching you. We are coming for you."
She felt a surge of fear and dropped her phone. She looked around the room, feeling paranoid. She heard a knock on the door.
She screamed.

Spooktober 2022, Day One
Spooktober is a 31 day event of coming up with original horror ideas based on prompts my writing group argues over.  These are my entries… (EDITED:  I wasn't clear what the prompt was or how this met that criteria before.)
SPOOKTOBER DAY #1 — Competition
TITLE:  STAY SAFE
Premise:  Markiplier was warned. 100 days, 100 nights of danger on the wicked streets of Los Angeles - two gangs were having a challenge to see who could kill the most people.  But the gangs were not going on the rumored rampage, and he felt safe.  Police cruisers patrolled orderly streets.  He didn’t realize the gangs about to initiate the killing spree were rolling those very same cruisers – hiding behind shiny badges, with murder in their blue hearts.
Horror Element:  Markimoo is hunted by gangs within the LAPD, and only street gangs can ultimately save him.  A story ripped from the headlines, babey.
Poster by AI, modified with photoshop.
