This plugin allows the user to copy-paste objects from an opened AutoCAD file into 3DS Max. The plugin works with multiple opened CAD files, it recognizes the last copied objects. The script offers many filtering options for the imported objects like: 1-removing the prefix "Layer:" and this will make it easier to select objects by name 2-remove any material applied to the imported objects 3-remove the Block/Style Parent hierarchies 4-select the imported objects when importing is done 5-turn the imported objects into a group 6-you have the option when clicking import to open the main AutoCAD DWG/DXF Import Options so that you can change additional options, And when you click Import, 3DS Max will import the objects respecting the options in this main dialog + the options in the Script. So you better choose the options in the script first.

would you ever consider uploading the low poly versions of some of these models, like the ones you see in-game when they're in the distance, or do you know anyone who has? i've always been curious to see those up close
The low LOD ones are in the files, but I'd have to re-import and go through the whole rendering process again! Potentially something to consider when the blog's gone through the whole dex in the future, though!
While I'm not aware of anyone who's uploaded images, you can find the full set of .trmdl files from the Pokémon Model Ripping Project thread over on vg-resource — they also provide a plugin for Blender & 3DS Max!

tbh thinking maybe I should try to take the time to overhaul most if not all of the various tweaks and mashups I've made for XIV once the Forbidden Magicks become fully available once more.
The problem outside of fatigue lmao is that neither 3ds Max nor Blender can really do everything I need them to - the former consistently breaks both shapes/morphtargets and vertex colour information, while the latter refuses to let you directly work with and modify custom vertex normals, among other things.
I'm really tempted to try to look into just fixing at least some of these issues myself since both 3ds Max and Blender support having extensions written for them, but neither is a particularly small endeavour and Blender's plugin documentation is ... not great - for one it keeps referencing a C++ API that was apparently deprecated years ago?? At least the API it does have uses Python which is familiar, but it doesn't really offer a lot of examples for how and where to get started beyond the extremely basics, making it difficult to figure out where to look to accomplish the things I would need it to do.
Also honestly the fact that 3ds Max is the one that fails to properly import/export data from .fbx files when the .fbx file format is Autodesk's own proprietary interop file format is just utterly pathetic?? Like Blender had to actively reverse-engineer the format themselves without any information on how it works and still did a better job at it?? Seriously autodesk how are you consistently failing this hard

What’s the process for making an ultrakill model?
pretty similar to a modern asset! i'll try to keep this short(ish): blockout -> high poly -> low poly -> unwrap -> bake -> texture for modeling i use 3ds max (id use blender if i was proficient), with sculpting in zbrush if needed. for uv unwrapping i use max still, packing i use uvpackmaster in blender because its better than a human can do. baking in marmoset toolbag. texturing in substance painter with pixel8r, a retro art plugin i develop
the way it differs from modern assets is all in the texturing. i use the bakes to generate lighting information from some base material layers, then do manual paintover on top of that. i always* paint with pixel8r enabled, which allows me to work pixel perfect. * sometimes ill disable pixel8r to paint faces, and then clean up with pixel8r on i hope to record my process for my next model and upload it after its revealed.

Still not sure why Mipha's hitbox got so offset, certainly related to the titlebg with the .bphysics throwing the biggest suspicion but at least it's fixed now.
Need to update my plugins for 3DS Max, at the time I started modding, Blender wasn't being used at all for animations and trying to learn a whole new modeling program is not on my list for now
Currently not happy with a lot of the lower pieces for Mipha due to the way they clip with other armors. When you really get into it, Link really does wear a lot of tights in BOTW
On the topic of armors the one I'm working on will probably be more of a kitbash, I just simply don't have the time to do a fully custom outfit when I have a million other items to work on for this mod.
UKMM is still an issue, luckily the developer Ginger has been super active and helpful.
I want to release by the end of March, but...MH Wilds comes out tomorrow so...
Two major mods are looking for some big updates soon(tm) so I'm waiting until they are released before I work on integrating them with Mipha.

I remember back when I graduated looking into KI and its so cool to see another young animator doing just that! I was curious though - I saw on a job listing that the animators were to use Blender Puppetshop, but wasn't able to find much info on it other than it being a kind of ancient plugin. Is that still true?
Thank ya! Yea, so the program we use is 3ds Max, and then we use a plug-in called Puppetshop to rig and then animate our characters. I hadn't heard of it until i started working here, and it is a bit of an older tool- i believe you can buy/download puppetshop externally and use it on your own in Max, BUT we do have KI-specific plug ins/tools that can be used with puppet shop. Like i think the way we export characters/animation files was a tool built internally at KI, so they're not available to use unless ya work here lol. Other animation/game dev studios will usually have some type of custom tools for their respective work flow, like i think Dreamworks actually has their very own 3d software all together.
(also, there are other, newer 'auto-rigger' plug ins out there, i think one is called CAT used for Max, but not sure on that. Puppetshop just works real well for us).
From what i've heard, 3ds Max is kind of the preferred software for game art/animation, while Maya (Maya is, for the most part, the industry standard like how photoshop kinda is, but is more often used for feature/commercial animation. You can use any 3d program to make either game art or feature animation/etc, like blender, but yea Max for whatever reason is more compatible with games.
We don't typically use blender for anything here, although one of our concept artists Adam Roush often will roughly model environments or sometimes characters in blender and then paint over them- this makes for quicker concepts.
If you're interesting in seeing a bit on how our animation work flow goes, check out Tony Gaddis's YT channel. He's an animator here, and makes a lot of animation how-to videos. I actually referred to them a lot when i started working here, hehe.

Important notice about how long it's going to take
A while. It's going to take years. My plan is to hopefully finish it by the end of college (year 13) max, and considering I'm currently in my final year of high school (year 11) I think that's a reasonable time as I have 4 acts planned and I'm not sure how long the other 3 acts are play time wise as I've only focused on act 1, and that's going to be around 1/2 hour play time for a single route. In total the game will be around 2 and a bit hours for the pacifist route (the neutral and merciless route only have 3 acts and the 4th act is all 3D). The main reasons why it's going to take so long is that:
Like I said earlier, I'm in school and have to do GCSEs and A-Levels (which are a really big deal).
I have rushed games before and I'm dissatisfied with their quality. I refuse to rush games ever since (Sci-Fi RaiRoboska!? looking at youuuu).
Drawing all the assets takes time. That's my biggest road block. This isn't a pixel art typical 2D RPG where I could just make tiles and reuse them, all the backgrounds and objects have to be drawn for that place and nowhere else for it to look right in that style. Take for example this road:
Tumblr media
Sure, the style is quite simple, but even this took a good couple hours. All the layout planning, lineart, colour, lighting adds up. Don't get me started on the animations.
4. I have 2 medium sized games planned to make in-between as well as a few small game jam games. This variety also helps with point 5 while making myself more well known in the indie game industry.
5. I don't want to spend every minute of my free time working on it as I'm terrified of burning myself out and losing motivation. I also don't want to end up like Yandere Dev by working on this for almost a decade only to produce a demo, but I don't think "The Sapphic Princess" is going to be too long of a game and considering there's just me, I think I can handle it. Speaking of which...
I don't trust people enough to hire others to help me. I'm very controlling and I want it to be exactly how I in-vision it. Also I find doing it all fun but if it gets too overwhelming then I may consider it but only as a last resort.
The 2 medium sized games that I have planned is a visual novel DDLC fangame that won't take too long to make (most of the time will be in writing as Dialogic is a great godot plugin and would make all the coding a breeze), and a Yandere Simulator "fangame" (more like a different interpretation from a horror game fan who actually knows how to write and design characters). I've gone into more detail about these on my main blog as linked above. The second one is quite big but not as big as my current plan of LV. Essentially this is my main project and those are short term projects, if that makes sense.
My plan is to release this on itch.io and Steam for around £3. I don't want to make it too high as it can be beaten in about 2 hours on the neutral route (ignoring the other 2 routes) but I also don't want to make it too low as I want to feel compensated for all the work I've put into, putting into and will put into. I may also make a Playstation version but don't count on it as I only have a PS4 and I don't feel like it's worthy due to it's short run time (but physical copies would be cool...maybe as a game compilation though). I'll get some people to beta test it in the future and ask what they think would be a good price.
I made this blog when I had a smaller idea for this game. Now that is not the case. I'll post updates whenever I feel like I have something worth updating about but I don't want to spoil it too much.
That's all for now. - PearlHikara

This major update brings you new features and improvements to already existing ones. Now, in addition to the existing method using a picked point and XYZ orientations, where you can change the length after creation, you have a second method of creation using two picked points, where the line will start on the first point and points in the direction of the second one using the length value in the spinner. Also, in this version, you can load 2D shapes from the scene, that have 2 vertices only, and change their lengths, the script will always respect their current orientations. No worry now if you close the dialog, you can open it and load any line, even if it was created by the line tool inside Max. This version lets you have modifiers on top of the Line and continue to modify its length. In the video, I will show you some tricks on how you can use this tool as a helper to adjust the length and orientation of mesh edges. Plus other things, I encourage you to watch the whole video to have a complete understanding of the tool.
You can download the plugins from the description area on youtube
