These are some more observations, mostly from @wdway​, about the TWB coda and some symbolic possibilities. We’ve been especially talking about the “V” a lot lately, so you’ll see more discussions of that moving forward. Take it away, @wdway​!

Guys, I want to throw out a couple of ideas about the twb Coda. I was wondering if the "V" project stood for the French having two teams of scientists working on a (?) cure. Team Violet and Team Primrose. That reminded me that awhile back, probably a year, when I was re-watching s4e1, 30 Days, I was thinking about the pig's name being Violet and how there is another meaning other than the flower. Violet could also stand for Violet Rays, or Ultraviolet Rays.

I'm thinking of all the light symbolism around Beth at Grady, but also the sun symbolism we have always associated with her. There is also the coda.

Well, if violet is a flower with a different meaning, could Primrose also be something different. Yes, it could.

Primrose Oil is very interesting. Tptb opened our thinking at the end of the TWB series that the scientists should look at more natural/nature base solutions by looking at mushrooms/fungi. So why not herbal/plant-based remedies?

The woman in the Coda was part of Team Violet. It was Team Primrose that was in Ohio.

In s10e1, Lines We Cross, Eugene wanted to salvage as much as he could from the satellite that has fallen and started the wildfire. Luke came over and asked Eugene about radiation. I always thought that was an odd little scene, and it must mean something. I think it has to do with tying into radiation ultraviolet rays.

I have no idea if what I've suggested here really has anything to do with the show, possible treatments or cures, but I did want to put it out here and hopefully spark some different ideas.

I forgot to mention that the evening primrose oil supplement is also thought to be a blood thinner.

I just thought of the scene where Edwards and Beth are on the roof of Grady, and it looked like they were drying out some type of petals. Who knows?

The Violet mention as something that hints of radiation I can wholeheartedly get behind. And if you look at it, there are a lot of electromagnetic radiation clues happening on the show. There’s the UV radiation, absolutely agree that Violet the pig could be part of it.

Interestingly, UV radiation is used in sterilization of lab equipment, etc. It has the capacity to kill pathogens under the right circumstances. You can get little UV light devices if you like to go hiking off the beaten track, so that you can drink water that’s not safe unless it’s sterilized.

So, does that mean the radiation references in TWD are about sterilization of water? It could be, but at the same time, the technology could also be weaponized. I’m still not much closer to cracking the code regarding these clues, but I’m also keeping an eye on radiation hints because that’s basically what all (at least many) types of communication technology are about.

It’s electromagnetic radiation. Radio waves, visible light, infra-red, ultra Violet etc. Remember when Eugene was on the radio with Rosita in s10. She asked if they should talk on the radio later, Eugene replied “are radio waves sinusoidal?” (Yes, they are).

Also, in 7x12 we could see the letters E and R on the ride where Rick had his death fake out. E and R could mean Electromagnetic Radiation. I have more about this in a notebook somewhere, but I don’t think it’s anything groundbreaking. 

I never fully figure out what the symbolism was about, but I wouldn’t be surprised if it was about some sort of cure/treatment/vaccine on one hand, and possibly about weaponizing it (think nukes, for instance) on the other. But mostly, I still don’t know what it’s about ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Really love all of this. I don’t have much to add, but I think it’s all fascinating. 

As you can see, it’s mostly conjecture and just batting around ideas, but I think it’s genius. For now, it’s just stuff we’re keeping an eye on. Can’t wait to see where it all goes moving forward!

Okay fuck it, I gotta give in, I gotta watch through Supernatural. AFAIK, it's all on Netflix; at least I saw it on there in passing. Going into this, is there anything I should be aware of? Are there any episodes I should skip, any seasons? Should I start from season 4? I know the basic plot and concept, and I know it's very monster-of-the-week. But aside from me highkey shipping Destiel already, that's all.

Well my first piece of advice would be

but uh, let’s fucking ~GO~

If you’re actually jumping into this hellhole (why why why) don’t start at season 4. It’s tempting, but seasons 1-3 are some of the best shit in the whole show, also having context for Sam and Dean’s characters, and their relationship with the supernatural up to season 4 really highlights how fucking wild the introduction of angels is in the show. it’s basically a complete paradigm shift.

I would recommend you watch seasons 1-5 basically as is, though if you’re in a rush, season three is kinda skippable as long as you read a general synopsis. This is the original arc of the show and it shows. A friend of mine, @sammwinchestersdimples​ has said she’d have been fine if the show had ended there, and I can totally see her point. After season five things start to get... uhhhhh... not as good. THAT BEING SAID some really amazing seasons come later, and you’d get nowhere NEAR the Full Destiel Experience without them. What REALLY sucks is that all the seasons have good moments in them, so even if the seasons are generally bad, they’ll have episodes of GOLD. But fuck it, here’s a season-by-season breakdown.

Season 6 - This is the first... “eh” season. There’s a lot of character choices made in this one that I don’t like. The plot also doesn’t quite seem to know what to do with itself and it has no real main villain... or I guess it has a twist villain? This is also the season where they start chucking in the typical “no homos” you get when a show is queerbaiting, so they can point to the no homo bits and claim the queers are delusional.

Season 7 - The absolute WORST season, imo, is season 7, and it features Cas the least out of all the post season 4 seasons. You can tell the writers genuinely tried to write Cas off here. Not to mention the main plot is completely stupid. HOWEVER this is the season where we get golden things like Cas showing up to Dean’s prayer naked and covered in bees, and the episode where Charlie (best girl) is introduced and Dean subsequently has to flirt with a dude because she, a lesbian, cannot. (Wow so straight, Dean)

Episodes Not To Skip:

6x03 - A good Cas/plot episode (spot the famous destiel quote)

6x04 - A good all-round episode, also Jackles directed it so  ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

6x09 - This is one of the Batshit Episodes. Definitely watch.

6x10 - On the one hand, Cas episode. On the other, no homo, megstiel episode. Your choice.

6x11 - Good episode.

6x15 - THE ULTIMATE META EPISODE. Sam and Dean are teleported into Jared Padelecki and Jensen Ackles’ lives on the set of Supernatural and it is so batshit.

6x17 - Jolly good episode, and nice destiel content.

6x18 - Time travel episode, which is always fun.

6x19 - “Baby in a trenchcoat.” ‘Nough said.

6x20 - The Man Who Would Be King is the destiel episode. It is infamous in the fandom, and for good reason. It’s not just a good destiel episode, but one of the best episodes in the series. With banging lines like “Freedom is a length of rope. God wants you to hang yourself with it.” and “For a brief moment, I was me again.”

6x21 & 6x22 - The last two episodes are kind of must-watches after TMWWBK, trust me.

Episodes Not To Skip:

7x01 & 7x02 - follows on from s6 final. You don’t wanna skip.

7x05 - Good general episode

7x06 - Again, good general episode. Sets ups plot for the season.

7x08 - Ugh. So the A plot for this episodes invoves Becky, the insane, stalker, fandom-insert character, roofie Sam into marrying her (and it’s heavily implied they have sex - and it’s treated as a joke despite being LITERAL RAPE). BUT this is the episode where Garth is introduced and Garth is fucking amazing. So. IDEK.

7x10 & 7x11 - Plot important.

7x12 - Time travel episode! See if you can catch the bi!dean moment ;)

7x17 - Cas is back! Or is he???

7x18 - GARTH EPISODE

7x20 - CHARLIE!!!! WATCH THIS EPISODE!!!!

7x21 - Cas episode. It’s... interesting.

7x22 - The tagline for this episode is “Sam and Dean seek out an Alpha” 😭. It’s a Cas episode.

7x23 - If Cas weren’t in this episode I’d say skip it.

Season 8 - A fantastic season. If The Man Who Would Be King is the destiel episode, season 8 is the destiel season. When you watch this, DM me so I can RANT about all the amazing destiel this season. It’s also, again, a great season in general I remember watching it as it was airing it was soooo good. You have the arrival of the Bunker, you have Kevin and Charlie being awesome, some nice sprinkles of batshit episodes, BEST BOY BENNY rocks up in all his glory. Fucking epic season. Only downside it Sam’s character takes a bit of a dive. I’d recommend you watch through all of this season.

Episodes To AVOID:

7x13 - I literally pretend this stupid fucking episode doesn’t exist. Basically Dean impregnates a woman with Super Pregnancy and she has a daughter who becomes an adult within hours and then dies. The end. Everyone hated it. Man fuck this episode. Of course it was written by Buckleming.

Season 9 - Sadly, after how amazing season 8 was, and how spectactularly season 9 was set up, this season is a disappointment. It’s an ok season. It’s not bad, it’s not good, it’s just a bit all over the place.

I was going to give you the normal episode list to not skip, but looking through, most episodes this season should be watched for one reason or another. Either they’re Cas heavy, they do some interesting character building, or they feature one of the awesome side characters like Charlie or Jody.

This season is probably the height of the war in the writers’ room about destiel. Some writers want to no homo the whole thing and back way off, while other writers want to lean into it hard. So in the same season where SPOILER Cas loses his virginity to a random reaper woman and Dean kicks Cas out of the bunker to fend for himself, you also have Cas’ fatal flaw used as propaganda against him by Metatron being that he’s "in love” with humanity Dean. /SPOILER Whatever you do DON’T SKIP THE FINAL FEW EPISODES. TRUST ME.

Season 10 - Haha oh dear. This season is likely the biggest for wasted potential. You saw the end of season 9, right? You go “HOLY SHIT YES LET’S DO THIS” and then they do... season 10. They really became experts at setting up an awesome season only to fuck it up in delivery, right? Again, not a bad season, per se.

Episodes To AVOID:

9x05 - In which Dean wants to fuck a dog. I am not joking. I wish I were. Basically a spell-gone-wrong makes Dean doglike. it’s weird. it’s batshit. Not the good kind.

Season 11 - Season 11 is a pretty good season! They tried to give Dean a female love interest but Jackles said  ✨No✨ and played Dean as brainwashed and uncomfortable the whole time and I love him for it. Of special note this season is the episode Baby (11x04), which is my favourite episode in the series! It’s funny, it’s heartwarming, it’s weirdly shot. I love it! We also get casifer this season which is awesome! Some episodes are skippable, but they’re generally good episodes.

Episodes NOT to Skip (ignore the 10 year special):

10x01 & 10x02 - Great episodes, Dean in this is *chefs kiss*.

10x04 - *sighs* Fan Fiction. A 200th episode that is simultaneously a love letter to fans and laughing in fans’ faces. I’ve never liked this episode for the second-hand embarressment of it all, but you should watch it and see if you like it.

10x06 - Pretty good episode.

10x07 - Jody AND Donna! Fantastic episode!

10x08 - Dadstiel rears his ugly head. I fucking love how Cas adopts two (2) kids over the course of the series and in both cases Dean eventually goes “ah fuck, I guess I gotta co-parent this thing”. Also we get some KILLER destiel this episode. hey go on a DATE and Cas tells Dean he’s a good person ^_^

10x09 - Good episode. Much destiel.

10x10 - Charlie episode!

10x11 - Teen!Dean! Need I say more?

OK so I just had a look, and you really just need to watch every episode from this point in the season on. Enjoy!

Season 12 - Another example of a TERRRIBLE season, is season 12. Season 12 is also one of the most destiel-heavy seasons in the show. You see the issue? Like, it’s got a stupid plot that makes no sense and has no fucking cohesion, but you also FINALLY have the writers going “fuck it” and all in on the destiel. After this point Dean never has another non-Cas love interest and vice versa, they stop giving us whiplash from baiting and no-homoing. IF the conspiracy theory is true, and the end of the show is shit because of executive meddling, this season is the one where the writers decided they were gonna push for destiel endgame.

I gotta tell you the truth, I skipped this season in my rewatch, so all of my memories are from years ago when it first came out. This seson was the last that I watched live (for a reason). Should you skip it? No. But I’m not well informed enough about this season that I can point out what episodes you should or should not watch.

Season 13 - Congratulations! You’ve reached the point where the show’s gotten consistently good again! (just in time for most of the audience to have already left lol). We start off with SPOILERS Dean mourning Cas like he’s lost the will to fucking live. I’m talking complete despondence, praying for Cas to come back, lashing out in anger at everything, one of the darkest points we’ve ever seen him at on the show, then pulling a 180 and being super happy the second Cas comes back. /SPOILERS They also introduce Jack, who is the SECOND child Cas decides to adopt and Dean ends up co-parenting (Sam too). In fact, Jack is explicity Sam, Cas, and Dean’s kid.

Season 14 - Another good one. My only issue is where they decided to take the plot at the end of the season. I’d recommend watching it all, regardless.

Season 15 - And so we’ve come to the end of the line. This season was... well it was actually pretty good. It started off with what we hellers lovingly refer to as the “divorce arc” where Cas and Dean have a big blow up, and Cas leaves, but that ends with Dean praying on his knees for forgiveness and a nice hug. Honestly this season you can cut the tension between the two of them like a knife, and you can tell Misha and Jensen were doing it deliberately.

I’d say watch up until 15x18, then you decide what to do with the last two episodes. If you want you can watch them to understand just why people put their conspiracy theory hats on, or you can send me another ask and I’ll rec you some post 15x18 finale fics! There’s one fic that’s a replacement for 15x20 written in script format that is particularly good.

Anyway that’s it. It’s kind of left me a little sad, to break down the show in this way. Especially coming up to season 15 nd remembering all the wasted potential. Honestly if you do decide to watch the show, good luck. I hope you enjoy it. I’m also glad you never had to be put through the bullshit false hope that came about after 15x18.

Cisco walked into his office at Argus, after his in-depth tour and three hour onboarding, still taking it in. He swivels around on his heel in his fresh, crisp button down and marvels at the high-tech. No more keeping his hands to himself and scolding himself not to touch. It’s all his now, it hardly seems real.

“Hey!” He beams at a tall man in a suit that walks past in a brisk pace. Cisco catalogues through the senior management staff in the incredibly long meeting. Tall man, moustache, it had to be the international engineering intelligence team lead, Zenith. The man acknowledges him with a quick nod and a mumbled “Boss.”

Cisco watches him lower his head down and continue walking.

Huh. Weird. Zenith wasn’t one for small talk. Cisco sat himself down in his chair and logged on with his new access credentials. That was fine. He pulled up his calendar and typed in at least twenty passwords to actually pass the security to read what the events in his calendar mean.

A woman walks into his office then with a full gourmet lunch he hadn’t even ordered. “Sweet!” Cisco grinned, lighting up at the array of food. “This looks amazing, that’s awesome.” He picks up a fork and jumps right in, starving. “What is this, chicken?”

Cisco looks up again but the woman is gone. He frowns and swallows down his mouthful. Okay, well. He hadn’t expected that.

When the day is almost over, Cisco has learned more than he ever needed to know about the current state of technological advancement in America and has made zero friends. He tries not to worry too much about it when he walks into his hotel room in Star City Suites. There wasn’t any time to look for a house yet, and he had always suspected Kamilla would want to be a part of the buying process, so he would be staying here for a little while.

He’s the boss now. He doesn’t need friends, and they don’t want to be his friend. Cisco just has to tell them what to do and that’s it. Everything requires a level of clearance so questions asked by those that don’t hold it must be met with a stoic face and indifference.

Cisco rubs at his head between his eyes and sighs, flopping onto the main bed. Something curdles in his stomach, and he knows deep down it isn’t the new fancy lunch food.

His phone beeps then, and he’s glad for the distraction. He smiles in spite of himself when he sees Caitlin’s name and picture flash on his screen.

Caitlin: Checking in to see how your first day went!!! Tell me everything (Well everything you can 😉)!!!!

He stares at the text until he nearly drops his phone on his face. His thumb twitches over the keyboard, desperate to assure her how much he loves this and this is great and everything is awesome because it totally is. It totally is. And yeah, Cisco had rushed to make this choice and take the job offer because he wanted to be a leader. He knew he had it in him and he had to prove it to himself to try. Cisco stares at the ginormous paragraph that poured out of him, without so much of a second thought.

What he wrote was ridiculous. He sounded like a complaining and annoying privileged brat. Hey Caitlin, I’m struggling but it’s my fault because I sprung this on you only yesterday so please tell me you’ve been crying because you missed me the way I haven’t smiled once for real when left alone by myself at my big fancy desk because I missed you…Anyway people are stiff here, like cardboard Team Flash Dr. Light cutouts stiff and I’ve met over twenty people so it’s not like I haven’t looked. Remember when we used to make fun of Argus? They were always cool and amazing but we’d snicker from the absurdity of it all when Lyla went home with King Shark put away and thought we were lucky we weren’t her. So why am I here?

Cisco needed to get a grip on himself. It wasn’t overdramatic that he missed his friends and family. It was normal he suddenly felt uncomfortable and awkward. This was new and it was unfamiliar, and would feel so for a long time. That’s life, and so is change.

Then why did this feel so much like how he felt the day after he took the cure?

I’m amazed there’s still people in the TBL fandom who think the only reason for Red to care about Liz so much is because he has to be her father (or mother or uncle or whatever). Can they really not imagine that someone may care or even love* another person without any familial connection to explain it. If Red were the same age as Liz, would they argue that he must be her long-lost brother?

I’ve also been thinking about all that talk of “obligations” in 7x12. Remember the time when Liz set up an account/scholarship for the harbormaster’s daughter (2x16) because she felt responsible after Tom killed him? This is what Red said to her when he found out about the scholarship:

“Be careful, Lizzy. Because the truth of it is, once you start down this road there’s no logical place to stop. You can see to her education, health insurance, housing. You can watch her or have her watched, keep her safe, try to ascertain her hopes, dreams, desires. Pull strings, call in favors to discreetly smooth the path. And for the first few years, it may work. You’ll draw some measure of virtue from being her invisible benefactor. But that won’t last. It’s all a fraud. That it’s really not about her at all. That it’s all about you. And you’re just going through the motions to salve your own guilt. Look, all the money, all the time and effort, all the favors in the world cannot possibly equal what you took away from her. Everything else is just a nice gesture.”

That’s literally it. We already knew at the time that he was drawing a parallel to himself there and it still holds true. That right there is ~the mysterious connection~. No blood relation needed to explain any of this. On the contrary. That moment is explicitly about Liz taking care for a girl who is not her daughter (i.e. parallel to Red taking care of Elizabeth who is not his daughter) because she feels responsible for the death of that girl’s father. In the past Red caused a situation that lead to him feeling guilty and obliged to take care of Elizabeth.

But as Cassandra points out in 7x12 (as if it still needed pointing out when it should be blatantly obvious from everything he’s done in the past 7 years): “You may have come into her life out of obligation, but you’re staying in it for love.”

Anyway.... I don’t know where I was going with this. I’m just totally baffled that there’s people who cannot imagine someone can have the ability to care for another person would having to be related to them? And I’d bet good money this whole discussion wouldn’t exist if Red were closer to Liz’s age.

It’s late on Thursday but it’s still Thursday and thus time for thoughts you didn’t ask for but I’m sharing anyway, and I have a lot of feelings so let’s get right down to it: (yoooooo this is the longest of these I’ve ever done but I had to get all the details of their fight in there)

Quite the fashionable little eyepatch Sheidheda whipped up since we last saw him, and from what animal did he get these spikes on his shoulders?

I actually really liked Nelson--or at least Lee Madjoub who plays him--so I’m a little sad this is his end but at least he lived and died by his principles which is more than some people on this show get to do.

Bellamy looks like a goddamn fool in this white outfit but Gabriel is clearly digging it.

I absolutely despise Just-Call-Me-Bill and his cavalier fucking attitude towards his own fucking son.

Raven is ready to draaaaaaaag Bellamy. I love her anger and refusal to comply. And he lets them take her away! They’ve been family since the dropship days--he held her as Finn died--they lived on The Ring together for six years--“So much for family,” indeed.

Echo is absolutely roasting him. I love her. A lot. She is so right--she absolutely went through all of those things, never truly breaking even though she came close. (What’s a little attempted genocide between friends?)  And here he is, three months on Etherea and a whole wreck. Her line, “Watch us all die, I suppose,” is perfect. Bellamy’s “yes” to “is it more important than us?” is absolutely devastating. And with that, they’re broken up. It hurt more than I thought it would. 

ALSO how is “all of us for all mankind” any different from Octavia’s cannibalism motto in the bunker? Remember how you loathed her for that, Bellamy?

Knight’s really out here with all the exposition--and I wonder how long Nikki Bang Bang is going to put up with being called “Convict.”

Alright, Emori and Murphy’s ragtag band of fugitives is doing okay! Murphy, you literally only have to survive til the end of the episode bb. You can do it. And with that these two little horndogs lay down together to make some babies...only to be interrupted by Indra with Madi’s boyfriend.

Does a nuclear reactor count as a weapon? Well I hope fucking not since people live on this planet...including you.

Aw. Jordan and Hope. Please be best friends, Hope needs a wholesome influence. Jordan’s point about how the group are not their friends, but their parents’ friends, is so solid. I can’t imagine how alienated these two must feel. I love that all of these space people force Hope into hugs and comfort her--she doesn’t know how to show or receive affection so they just make her. This poor child. I know people have been hard on Hope across the fandom but I honestly feel so much empathy for her. 

Clarke and Octavia! My favorite female duo. This moment of bonding and understanding between them is everything I have wanted for seven fucking years. 

I love the way this scene is directed, the way they move, everything, all the details:

Clarke immediately gets in Bellamy’s face, but Octavia stands back. Feels like she knows that Clarke is the right person to handle Bellamy.

Dude. Your “experience” sounds like some kind of acid trip. 

Then Octavia steps forward, and Clarke steps back. 

Clarke forward again, with tears, her voice breaking.

Bellamy is breaking too, tears, everything, Clarke forward and in his face again. Clarke refuses to help and gives her normal reasoning for everything she does--she was trying to save her friends. Bellamy, with tears: I am trying to save YOU! (all of you but really just you clarke i mean c’mon) His threat to Clarke--if you don’t tell me where the key is--the threat hangs, Clarke shakes her head, he lays down the truth. “They will kill you. All of you. Let me help.” and her face is so angry, disgusted, disappointed, defiant--go float yourself. When she walks away he closes his eyes like he’s trying to keep the tears from falling. Clarke walks over to Octavia and when they take each other’s hands lemme tell y’all I BAWLED. Sisters. Equals. After all this time. 

Conductor Doucette (Steve to his friends) walks up to console this idiot with some speech about transcendence. I hate him. But he sure does look hot with this haircut. 

Every Memori scene is absolutely killer. “You think Hatch would have kneeled?” Also “Raven, in one of her more questionable moments, that I nevertheless respect...” Oh god, I love him. 

The looks between Cadogan-Bellamy-Doucette while Clarke is in the MCAP are so good. 

Bellamy: “It didn’t have to be like this.” Clarke, with tears running down her face: “Yes it did.”  I have a lot of questions about these lines. They could be read in a lot of different ways. Does Clarke mean that she would always have fought this hard, regardless of it being Bellamy she has to fight against? Does she mean that Bellamy’s decisions would have always brought them to this point? 

I am asking once again: what the fuck is Sheidheda wearing? And who had time to make this absolutely ridiculous and a bit too on-the-nose throne of bones?

Oh good, now when Clarke and Call-Me-Bill come through the anomaly stone they’ll be right in front of Sheidheda’s Mad Max insanity.

Madi is being such a precious fucking bean right now telling them all how she feels their pain. I cannot. I am dead. Also Emori being proud of Madi is EVERYTHING. ALSO Murphy’s “I’ve got this,” to a terrified Emori made my heart clench.

Miller’s “You good with this?” to Clarke touched my heart tbh. Everyone’s loyalty to her this season is everything I have needed for ages. 

Hm. Where did this asshole send everyone? I love the way Clarke immediately rounded on Bellamy. He won’t be able to make a right move in her eyes until this shit is over. 

I barked with laughter at “Your move, my liege.” And Murphy’s little grin when he sees Clarke! Cockroachkru forever!

Y’all, that was...a lot. Like a lot a lot.

In short: Becho breaks, Bellarke fights, and Memori tries to make babies at every turn. Sheidheda is a fashion icon (of sorts) a new ship launches with Hope and Jordan, Madi becomes leader of a new generation of delinquents, and Nikki Bang Bang gets the knock upside the head that she so deserves.

the 100 7x12

I am asking you to believe in me.

Oh man. That scene was gutting. I don’t have a clue where all of this is heading, but both Bellamy and Clarke have to be right if this is going to make any kind of sense/have a satisfying conclusion. Bellamy’s vision and journey, while misinterpreted or corrupted by Cadogan, must have validity. 

Clarke acknowledges they’ve seen enough to know anything is possible. She doesn’t say that she doesn’t believe in Bellamy when he asks her to. She says she won’t help Cadogan. That decision also has to be correct. We all know he’s a villain and it can’t be a coincidence that Bellamy also seems to be less enthralled with him this week. Clarke’s refusal due to Cadogan’s involvement must be as valid as Bellamy’s belief in what he experienced.

So, once Cadogan is dead and his war is gone (I’m assuming that’s coming), once achieving transcendence is a test Bellamy believes he has to take, and once it’s Bellamy asking for the flame (if it’s needed), I think Clarke will hand it over. Also that they’ll take the test together. Head and heart and all that.

Or it’s entirely possible I’m full of it and they’ll go down in flames and Jordan and/or Hope will take the test.

Also, Gaia. Is she with Orlando, maybe? I remember not quite believing he was dead, but now I can’t remember if it was actually confirmed. It’s really making me nuts that we don’t have any answers for her.

I thought a lot about this question and I’ve narrowed it down to 3 answers which are posted here in experienced order:

Daredevil 1x10 Nelson v. Murdock - i rewatched all of daredevil with my roommate during the quarantine part of the spring semester and had a blast. foggy finds out matt’s secret (being a superhero, his super senses). the Betrayal of it all. the way they show them ugly crying instead of like letting out a single man tear. fuck. “then again, maybe i would. what the hell do i know about matt murdock?” the cutting back and forth between their present day fallout and their meeting and developing friendship. it’s SOOO much it’s like Specifically Crafted for maximum pain and i eat it right up. foggy: are u even really blind? the show: *immediately cuts to a flashback of them meeting and foggy learning that matt is blind* foggy: was anything ever real between us? the show: *cuts to the two of them thick as thieves and making plans to form their law firm together and matt almost revealing his secret*. matt: this city needs me in that mask, foggy. foggy: maybe you’re right. maybe it does. but i don’t. i only ever needed my friend. the show: *cuts to them starting their law firm together.* also the scene where ben is in the hospital with his wife and we see her forget him on screen. ouch. a lot happens in this episode but tbh i just focus on the Friendship Falling Out. it reads even better if you think they’re in love with each other, as i obviously do. man daredevil Hurts.

Star Wars: The Clone Wars 7x12 Victory and Death (series finale) - the panic in rex and ahsoka as they have to get off this LITERAL sinking ship filled with enemies that used to be their brothers, who had just within the week painted their armor, one of the few things they can customize to express themselves, to resemble her, who they know would never willingly turn against them, and a fucking wackjob killer wildcard. the growing tension and cornering is fantastic. when ahsoka takes off rex’s helmet and he cries because he’s facing killing his brothers. the cute droid squad. i’m always a sucker for non-humans. the fact that they had special orders to kill ahsoka, who was no longer a jedi, from palpatine, meaning he thought she was a threat still and she IS. she’s up there with obi-wan in terms of attachments anakin has. the action is truly epic (though i do have to say the maul ahsoka fight was better). the fact that ahsoka and rex didnt just leave the clones there and they dug graves for them. the shot of ahsoka in her cloak in front of all the helmets painted like her face on sticks will be burned into my brain forever. vader coming down to the planet himself much later and finding and igniting one of the sabers he as anakin LITERALLY remade for her. just the image of vader holding a blue lightsaber is going to be the death of me. a literal representation of who he was. it’s too much. it’s too much for me to deal with. i started crying as i was typing this. also when you look closely you can see his eyes through the helmet lens. it hurts man. (possibly) morai flying away as this happens. man, star wars can be good. 

Supernatural 6x20 The Man Who Would Be King - ok so i know the question said year but man has show really defined my like last two months. as for this eps specifically, im predictable is what this says. i like tragedy and unhappy endings. i like gay angel. i like self-aware narration. i like reflection. i like the moment before it all goes wrong. this episode is the literal point of no return for s6 cas and i want to scream. it’s like when anakin cuts off mace windu’s hand. “but cas, youll call right? if you get into real trouble?” “and the worst part was dean, trying so hard to be loyal.” “for a brief moment, i was myself again.” “wonders never cease, they trusted me again.” “of course, i didn’t realize it at the time, but it was all over, right then, just like that.” “the big lie, the winchesters still buy it. the good cas, the righteous cas, and long as they still believe it, you get to believe it.” “it sounds so simple when you say it like that. where were you when i needed to hear it? / i was there. where were you?” “you know the difference between you and me? i know what i am. what are you, castiel? what exactly are you willing to do?” “i believe it’s what you would call a... tragedy from the human perspective... i’m asking you, father, one last time. am i doing the right thing? am i on the right path? you have to tell me. you have to give me a sign, because if you don’t... i’m gonna do whatever i... whatever i must.” like are you kidding me. not to talk about star wars even more but like. when rots novel said “the blurred line between our best and our worst” hhhhh. this makes me crave a 150k fic from cas’ perspective in season 6 where we see all the terrible things he’s doing for his well intentioned plan and how he keeps digging himself in deeper and deeper until it’s too late. and if i had the skill and time i would write it. alas.

runner ups: billions 5x05 contract (the epic lows of hearing taylor say they wanted to fire winston, the epic highs of 4d chess theory. the shitpost memes i immediately made. did not make the list as i made it a requirement that i actually enjoy the content in my winners list). supernatural 15x18 despair (lost out to man who would be king because i Care Cas, but i will never get over cas going out the way he came into this show; calling dean OUT on his bullshit).

bro who can even remember the months. ok i just looked at my calendar and i guess i’ll say may. i finished up my spring semester the week before. clone wars finale aired then and billions season 5 started airing which was a “fun” time. had a job. things were alright.

The Awake/Asleep Theme (and How it Applies to the CRM)

Okay, this is an epiphany I had thanks to 11x06. All of us theorists noticed how much emphasis they put on the fact that Connie had not slept, and that was a big part of why she was freaking out the entire episode.

At one point, Virgil even accuses her of hallucinating what she saw behind the wall because of lack of sleep. So, it crossed most of our minds that the creatures in the house might not be real, but might be a hallucination.

That, it turned out, was not the case. But mentioning it at all felt like a nod to the hallucination theme.

But when I re-watched the episode, I noticed something else. At the beginning, when Virgil is telling Connie she needs to sleep, and she keeps shaking her head, he says the word, “Rest.” All by itself.

It reminded me of something Maggie said to Daryl in 5x10, Them. After she wakes up and the two of them talk about Beth, and he gives her the MUSIC BOX, she says, “it’s okay to rest now.” It makes sense in the context of the episode, since it seems he was awake, keeping watch while the others slept. She was just telling him that since she and others were awake now, he could get some sleep. But it’s just such a weird wording, you know? I always thought it must be symbolic of something, but I never knew exactly what.

So, we have this sleep/rest theme that ties Connie and Virgil (Beth and Daryl template) to Them, which was right after Coda, and literally minutes before the music box woke up.

The other thing that jumped out at me is when Caver said to Leah, “Shaw, wake up!” The way he said it just reminded me a lot of how Denise said it to Daryl and Rosita right before she was killed.

So, as I often do, I tried to step back and take a broader view of what the characters actually mean when they say stuff like that.

For Carver, when he said it to Leah in this episode, he basically means that she needs to wake up to the truth. She can’t see the truth (that Daryl is deceiving her) and she needs to stop being duped by him and allow herself to see the truth.

The way Denise used it was slightly different, but related. She was talking about how Daryl and Rosita weren’t even trying to deal with their issues. Basically, they weren’t really living, which is theme we heard from Beth at Grady. Kind of the equivalent of “sleeping through your life.”

And then I thought about the fact that we actually see Beth wake up at Grady. And as always, it makes sense in context because she was,  you know, unconscious, so clearly she’d have to wake up at some point. But they just emphasized it SO much. Seeing her eyes flutter open. Seeing her slowly sit up and look around. I mean, how many times has TD posted those shots?

And that’s when it all clicked for me.

I said in the Matrix theory that the truth, what’s really going on, has to do with what TF has not recognized yet. It has to do with the CRM and what they’re doing that is negative, but most of TF (excluding Beth and Rick at this point) are still completely oblivious to it. So that is the “truth.” The truth that people need to wake up to.

So, thematically, being “awake” represents knowing or being able to see the truth. Being “asleep” represents being blissfully ignorant of the truth.

Think about how they used this theme in 11x06 with Connie and Virgil. Connie hasn’t slept. She’s refusing to sleep, which we all know is a bad thing. You have to take care of yourself or you’re gonna start hallucinating, which Connie kind of does here.

But because she refuses to sleep and goes to check the house again herself, she sees the creatures in the walls. She sees the danger. Danger Virgil doesn’t see. Because she’s awake. When she runs back down to tell him, we actually see Virgil SLEEPING. See what I mean?

So how do we interpret this in other cases. When I started thinking through these, they kinda blew my mind. Such great planning on the writers’ parts.

Beth at Grady:

With Beth, as we’ve already said, Grady is most likely tied to the CRM. I said in the Matrix theory that Rick and co should have awakened to the CRM and what was happening when they visited Grady, but they didn’t. They left and went back “into the Matrix” as it were, and back into blissful ignorance where that was concerned. I’m gonna come back to that in a minute.

The point is that we saw Beth waking up, because she was basically waking up in “Wonderland.” She was in a place where it was possible to see the truth for the first time. So, she was both literally and symbolically “waking up” to it.

When Maggie says to Daryl, “It’s okay to rest, now,” I think that’s the writers’ way of saying that they all went back to sleep, as it were. Back into the blissful ignorance of the Matrix, not understanding that Beth really lived or what the CRM was up to. She says it’s okay to rest, and he agrees, and they all “rest,” closing their eyes to the truth. Because it’s just easier to do that than to stay awake after the storm. 

Now let’s look at Denise:

We immediately tied her death to Beth, because it was so similar to what happened at Grady. But that sequence indicated SO much more than that.

Denise was yelling at Daryl and Rosita about not being awake to their lives. And I’m not claiming Denise knew anything about the CRM. What was happening in her arc was its own thing, but thematically, yelling at them about not being awake could be seen as yelling at them about not understanding what’s really happening with the CRM. What’s really going on.

Think about what she said. She said they were both really good people, and they weren’t even “trying.” And literally the last words she spoke were, “and if you don’t wake up—” and then she was shot. In the eye. And died. On the TRAIN TRACKS. Right in front of Daryl. Just like Beth.

So, it’s almost the writers hinting that something about what happened with Beth should have woke them up to the truth. They need to wake up and see it, or they’re going to die.

And perhaps by extension, Daryl needs to wake up and see it or he’s never going to get Beth back. I mean, really think about that sequence. “If you don’t wake up—” Bam. Shot in the head.

Rick’s Old Man Coda:

Remember in S8, we kept seeing visions, which turned out to be Carl’s, of Rick waking up as an older man? Some things I want to point out here.

Rick is waking up in this sequence. It also has the vibrant color scheme that we often see in these dream-like scenes. I think the vibrant colors represent Wonderland, or the “truth” which means they represent the CRM or the world outside the one TF is currently aware of.

So, these “old man codas” as I liked to call them foreshadowed many things. They foreshadowed Carl’s death, the fact that we’d see Judith as an older child eventually, etc. But I also now understand that they represent Rick disappearing into the CRM. Thus, why he seems to be “waking up” in “wonderland.”

There are plenty of other symbols we could point to. The flowers, which are reminiscent of his hospital experience in ep 1, and thus also point toward Grady (tied to the CRM). The fact that the song, “Another One Rides the Bus” is playing in the background. That’s part of the yellow theme. Which applies to Rick in a big way, btw. I already talked about how we saw it during 7x12, which foreshadowed his death fake out.

But we also have this huge arc where Michonne, and of course Daryl, are looking for Rick along the river. But he’s not there. They’re looking in the wrong place. Yellow theme.

Grace in FTWD 6x12:

I won’t go into too many details about this, but we also saw this theme with Grace in Fear. She had a dream sequence that also employed these vibrant colors. And you could interpret this theme about 5 different ways in that episode. Parts of the dream had truth in them, which means she was seeing truth in the dream. Just a different truth than she thought. 

Parts of the dream were also false, so she had to “wake up” to reality. And then things that happened near the end of the season around these events led a chunk of her group to connect directly with the CRM. Several of them were picked up by a black helicopter in the season finale. So, the awake/asleep theme was definitely being employed there.

And finally, that brings me to Leah: 

We still think the vibrant and sometimes blurry colors of FM suggest a dream-like state. We’ve been trying to nail down the timeline and things just don’t add up. So at the very least, we still think some of this is being remembered wrong.

But I also think perhaps the reason for the vibrant colors is that Leah is Daryl’s Grady. In the sense that he’s just getting a tiny inkling of what’s going on, on the outside with the CRM, but really hasn’t put it all together, yet.

I think Leah is going to lead him, in a big way, to waking up to the truth of the CRM. I think that’s her entire function in the plot. And of course there’s all this back story and all the stuff with Maggie and the Reapers. Lots of complicated arcs going on. But Leah is how Daryl will finally “wake up” to the truth, which will lead him to Beth. And eventually Rick.
