My take on the story the "I.M.P. mission shorts" tell

I'm going to start by saying that I'm personally not super into speculating about foreshadowing (but have fun if that's your jam), and I fundamentally believe that we're meant to be able to understand all of the episodes and their progression without ever watching the shorts. They're filler, and they're supposed to be light and funny.

That said, I think that we see two things happening plot-wise when we watch all three in a row. The first is time passing. Some distance is being placed between the events of Apology Tour and Ghostfuckers. I.M.P. is working, and life is continuing.

The second is that after being knocked off his feet by the double whammy of The Full Moon and Apology Tour, Blitz is recovering and figuring out how to be himself again.

MISSION ANTARCTICA: Blitz is not enjoying himself at all (okay, maybe we get a glimpse of him enjoying work when he's turning the seal into swiss cheese, but through most of the episode, he looks like he doesn't want to be there), and he's been thrown off his game. Like. About work, about sex, about having to use this crystal that's inextricably linked to his past with Stolas to do his job. Our boy is a mess, and it's hard to watch.

2. MISSION WEEABOO-BOO: We see more confidence right away! Blitz can use the crystal just fine. He assures Millie that he doesn't need backup. AND he's genuinely excited to go and assassinate someone. Which in this world/situation, is a positive development!

By the end of this short, our guy looks weary again, but it's situational. Emberlynn wore him out by being her out of control self. One could argue that he's not as resilient/ in charge of the situation as he normally would be. But it's hard to measure because it's a weird situation. What I do know is that the writers chose not to give us Blitz at his most chaotic and fun in this short. They saved that for . . .

3. MISSION CHUPACABRAS: this is the Blitz we know and love!

He makes bombastic jokes about his own sex life:

He comes up with creative ways to escape situations.

He BRINGS the chaos and comedy.

And he has this genuinely sweet moment with his new goat friend at the end and leaves the mission happy.

He's a super resilient guy, and he's put the events of recent episodes behind him. He's figured out how to take joy in his work again.

But he hasn't dealt with what happened, has he? The breakup is just part of a long list of traumas in his life now.

So we get to Ghostfuckers. I think that the three shorts during the hiatus explain how Blitz gets to the point where he can enjoy some silly hijinks early in the episode (the fun drag, the vacuum cleaner as a Ghostbusters device).

But the problem is, he hasn't really dealt with what he's been through recently or the insecurities and traumas that he's been carrying around during the whole series. Time heals. Throwing himself into work heals. But only so much. We're going to see the shell he's built to protect and distract himself burst. It's going to hurt, and I can't wait.

he mentions a department that no one has been to before. a department where you aren't allowed to LEAVE.

he is CLEARLY talking about the testing floor, where they are keeping gemma!!!! she isn't allowed to leave!!!!!!

so. this has been established. petey somehow stumbled across the testing floor. which then means that he knows about the exports hall............

a big question i've had the entire time while watching this show is how the FUCK does outie irving know about the exports hall. it's the kind of information that only an innie could know, and clearly innie irving had no clue about it until the OTC when he saw all the paintings.

so. how does outie irving know? who told him?

my leading theory so far was that reghabi was irving's contact. she seems to be the one with the most knowledge about the things going on inside lumon, so it would make sense that she would be working with irving.

HOWEVER, now that we've realized that PETEY knows about the testing floor.............who's to say it wasn't petey who told irving about the hallway? having been reintegrated, petey would probably have sought out irving as well!

let's go back to the message outie irving leaves over the phone in s2ep2

whoever irving is calling, they HAVENT BEEN ANSWERING.

guys. i genuinely believe that PETEY might be irving's contact on the outside, and the reason he hasn't been able to contact him is because irving has no idea that petey died!!!!!

I do like Raverne though, I think it's got a nice fancy sound to it! (I had kinda suspected it was going to be an R instead of an L, so the fact that it's SO close to Laverne except for that is hilarious to me personally.) and Dragoneye Duke is honestly probably the best translation for his title, I wasn't envying the localizers that one. :') Baur instead of Baul I was NOT expecting, but in retrospect I think his name's supposed to be a reference to the Bauru crocodile, so that actually makes way more sense!

someone else also said Meleanor has become Maleanor, which is the REALLY weird one to me, because I was so surprised it was written as Mel instead of Mal in the first place?! oh god no I can't decide which one I like better. 😭 (I wonder if they might change it to Mal...they have made romanization changes before) (like I remember House of Distraction being corrected to House of Destruction in Playful Land) (I did check and she's still Mel for now, but I dunno, they might Mal her up and some point and save me from having to make a decision about which one to use) (HECK I CAN'T DECIDE)

although i doubt that this theory will end up being true, i’ve always loved the idea of the antler queen being some kind of supernatural entity/mass hallucination shared by the girls at the height of their insanity in the wilderness. what i mean by this is not that they’re all literally seeing this figure, but that they all feel its presence and worship it like a god. they offer pieces of their hair to it so they can keep it happy, in exchange for blessing or protection. their shared belief in the wilderness as a concept keeps them grounded out there, and maybe it manifests in the form of the “antler queen”

of course, this conflicts with what direction the show is going in, though. the draw of the queen card coupled with natalie being referred to as “my queen” by shauna implies that the antler queen will likely end up being a person (my bets are on shauna if we’re being realistic), but that doesn’t necessarily mean it has to be a living person. the girls who have already died out there haunt the narrative, with jackie in particular being honored as a “guide” by lottie in 3x01. in many ways, her death represented the loss of any remnants of civilization the girls had left in them, and her haunting them represents the mark the wilderness left and continued to leave on them

all that is to say, if the antler queen does end up being a supernatural being (or a mass hallucination that they interpret as being a supernatural being), i want it to be jackie. i want her character to come full circle; from being assigned the role of leader, to being dethroned as they descended into the throes of the wilderness, to becoming their leader yet again in death. i want her to serve as a symbol for what they’ve lost and what they eventually become, an ever-present reminder of the horrors they partook in. i want her to enact one last form of revenge by guiding them into further derangement, just to disappear when they need her most. i want jackie taylor to be the antler queen

i doubt she will be. but it would be so fucking cool if she was

So, I know I'm a little (very) late to the AvA stuff, but I was rewatching AvM Season 3 for the seven hundredth time and, well, I noticed something and I'm curious to know if it's been discussed before.

AvM Episode 29, Purple's story, specifically, Pink's death.

Her color changes as she dies, or is represented to have died.

It fades to grey.

Now, the question is, can we, or rather should we, use this to infer anything lore-related? Was this just an artistic choice to depict the act of becoming unhealthy/dying, or could this be what actually happens to stick figures that die over a period of time? Are their colors linked to their health?

Let's have a bit of fun with it, and presume that the fading of one's color can happen to a stick figure for health-related reasons, as the scene could imply.

This fading seems to involve loosing the saturation of one's color into grey. Saturation is how vibrant a color is, and the complete lack of saturation is greyscale.

The World-of-Alan reason for Pink's death is that she 'got sick', which is where the health connection of this theory comes from. If she did loose her color as she was dying as the notes depict, that loss of color was likely a result of her failing health rather than any other factors, like age or outside variables. A whole bunch of human body stuff are indicators for good vs poor health, including skin color (jaundice and cyanasis are good examples) so why not a stick's color for them?

What if, when they fully die, they lose all of their original color?

Now, let me propose this…

Who else do we know of who has had their color loose vibrancy?

What if Victim's color has lightened because he's ill?

My personal take on the Abundance Yanqing theory.

Random but 10,000 years is crazy. Like actually bonkers. And that's 10,000 years SINCE the end of the world as Jod knew it. 10,000 years is his reign. 10,000 years is the Mesolithic period, before recorded history.(up to the point of this posts creation in the non myriadic year of no lord, 2025 anyways).

And so it's crazy that in the same time period that humans went from using small stone and sticks as tools, to having commercially available VR headsets, that a world fuelled by necromancy has not by themselves recreated Lyctorhood. Especially when their entire society is a reflection of the original lyctors. A necromancer and their cavalier.

And because of this, i think that was on purpose, that Jod hasn't had such a loose and casual hold over the nine houses as he might suggest. Or that his loose and casual personality might convey. That perhaps that issue of the accidental recreation of Lyctorhood has shaped a lot of decisions he has made about how to run the nine houses. I mean think about it, he thinks of the internet as one of the good things he withheld from the nine houses, but again, it's been 10,000 years and not a single person has ever conceptualized an electronic network that could allow the nine houses to communicate freely and share ideas and and work on projects together and learn from the other?

And i think someone probably has, but jod nipped that in the bud, because it wasn't in his vision for the nine houses. And the same for any promising necromancer. It's why the houses specialize in specific forms of necromancy rather than specializing in it as a whole. Because if everyone was learning all forms of necromancy then it really would just take one strong necromancer with an idea. And If the nine houses were able to readily recreate lyctors then Jod and his lyctors wouldn't be needed. Like sure Jod needs to be kept alive to keep dominicus running, it doesn't mean he gets to keep playing god.

The nine houses obtaining the knowledge of lyctorship, would be the downfall of Jod and he knows it. And so he keeps Lyctorhood away from the nine houses, and lies about (his version of) perfect Lyctorhood away from his lyctors. To keep the threat of him losing his power nonexistent.

I haven't seen anybody mention this before but after the fake (?) death of Moon/Xiao Yueqing at the end of ep.1 and the momentary throwback in ep.2 I can't shake off the feeling that it wasn't actually fake, just... hasn't happened yet.

Lin Ling says he believes he was dreaming, that is definitely a possibility. Since he isn't the original Nice and he worked in marketing for their company what if his powers aren't exactly Nice's in 1:1? He could have (and is slowly gaining) more and more of Nice's actual powers but in the end he ISN'T him, it would be interesting if he had something entirely his going on. What if it was some sort of... premonition or future sight?

Idk if this is unpopular opinion or not but while Percy is like “fuck this demigod stuff I am retired” I think Nico would be working in the underworld in the future like I just have this vision of him in a mix of modern and ancient greek clothing doing missions for Hades collecting some troublesome souls idk helping with the judgement talking shit with the dead making the playlist for their elevators vibing to tragedy by bee gees he kinda enjoys the demigod stuff even if its hella dangerous or whatever

I was inspired by @withdenim's drawing comparing Arin and Sora to Dragons and Onis, and I have taken it further by making it literal!

While drawing this though, my mind started going down a rabbit whole. And it formed the Crack theory that Mystake is Arin's grandmother making him 1/4th oni. AND like it's so unlikely! But the odds are never zero! And now my brain won't let go of that idea!!!

I had the idea that Sora could be a rare to bordeline nonexistent species of dragon native to the Realm of Imperium. Maybe she was hunted down by the Claws. And though she escaped it did leave a mark.

i’ve been thinking about “sixer, it would eat you alive” since i read it and. man. every layer you peel back makes it worse. im not a bill apologist but. shit

if you (1) take it at face value, it paints bill as an apologetic murderer in his single (and maybe sole) open moment of regret. he doesn’t let his walls down often- only with ford do we even get to see the remnant of his galaxy, see the “actual remorse” ford describes, get just a hint of his origins. but he does it, because he thinks ford should know.

if you (2) take it from ford’s point of view, as something he committed to journal three, like. wow. imagine being so committed to a being that you’d hunt down and kill the monster that destroyed his home, only to (assumably) figure out later that that being was the monster. the small moments of trust, the “good times”, are so key to manipulation. how long did ford hold onto that one shred of vulnerability? no wonder ford stayed for as long as he did. in his eyes, bill was a survivor. ford wanted to survive too.

(slight tw below for unreality- any time i mention our reality, i mean “our reality” as a narrative device used in the book of bill as a proxy for the idea of bill being in our reality, since he can’t actually be in our reality. all of this is a fictional theory about a show/book with fictional contents!)

but if you (3) remember that “even his lies are lies” and absolutely Nothing bill says should be trusted. Whoo boy. if i read tbob right the book itself is being created in the theraprism (even tho it shows up with the ciphertologists at some point? idk that’s a whole other post). it’s meant to show what the reader wants to see; it manifests in our reality as what the collective fandom wants to see. so if we want to see truth, if we want to see where bill ended up and who he actually is, there’s a non-zero chance that the whole interaction was a complete fabrication.

imagine bill, stuck in the actively harmful, probably earth-illegal theraprism, once again being forced to be “fixed” and molded into something more palatable, being forced to conform no matter how much it hurts. (i know natural uncontrollable mutation ≠ just so much murder and destruction and chaos, but. you can’t ignore the similarities. bill has obviously been thinking about those silly straws.)

he looks back on everything that went wrong, back on his relationship with ford, back through every dimension where he wins. would that one moment, that one truth amid centuries of lies, have saved him from purgatory? if he had just been open? shown his damage? maybe he did think of his parents, or his henchmaniacs (especially the oracle). people who he might have once opened up to. maybe he just wanted to open up to someone again.

so in his own weird way, stuck in a cell, he reshaped reality again. in this reality, for this fleeting moment, he had been someone worth believing. and ford had listened, hell, ford had wanted to help. looking back, knowing how he treated ford, knowing how ford ended up because of it, maybe bill would have said the most honest thing he’d ever told ford: i am the monster, i am not worth your time or belief, and i will eat you alive.
