As someone who fell into the vveritas man hole slightly before you started posting about it, I am waiting on tenterhooks for you to bring up vvertias man's love interest. Her being hated by feminists because it's 'unfair she keeps winning' has me in near hysterics every time it's brought up.

you know what I'm kind of glad you sent this because Melissa Krugger doesn't actually show up in any of the comics (well she got a oner but Weritas man isn't in it) so this give me a chance to talk about her!

so first off I do have to say it does take the wind out of the sails of the whole things because she's likely a stand in for a real life, possibly underage girl (he age is stated multiple times as too young for Weritas Man and that they'll be together "in a few years" but never explicitly underage), Leal is attracted to or I guess at best some kind of teenage girl sex tulpa so if you're uncomfortable about that you can stop here and know she doesn't appear in pretty much any other Weritas man stuff

Melissa is a little bit crosseyed and toothy, but very beautiful. Apparently she has a perfect life, she’s very rich, has a perfect body and is the best tennis player ever, a rising star entering in the professional athletes at this time, but SJW seeks to turn her life in hell because they don’t tolerate someone who never lost a match.

Melissa will fall in love with Camilo, but he won’t do anything until she got a little bit older, that’s the biggest problem for her heart.

You had finished with caretaking the children of the village a little earlier than expected, saying your goodbyes and grabbing your belongings. You walked with a swift pace towards the ends of the village by the reefs, knowing your siblings and the sully family was there.

You had felt a little guilty honestly, you promised them last night that you would be there for the entirety of their training just to leave because you had business to attend to for the people in your village. You can vividly remember the sadness on little Tuk's face when you told her, but she immediately cheered up when you told her you'd return as soon as possible.

Of course, her eldest brother had the same reaction as her, quickly to whisper in your ear 'I'll see you soon, don't keep me waiting long' before you had left, you smiled to yourself softly placing your hand on your ear. Before shaking your head and brushing off the feeling as you had just made your way to them.

"Hey guys" you said, waving to everyone in the water as you placed your bag down near your sisters, by the docks. Everyone else said their hellos and waved back at you now coming closer to the shore.

"Y/n! Y/n!" Tuk shouted, now letting go of her brothers hold and rushing towards you and leaping into your now open arms for a hug. You laughed as she hugged you, her soaking wet body now wetting yours, she laughed back.

You soon let go of her as she did you, rambling about everything she had done and what they were going to do now, riding 'water ikrans', making you chuckle slightly correcting her terms as it was called an 'ilu'. She only nodded and you pointed to her brother, who was now standing right behind her.

"I'm sorry for her outburst, she's been talking about you since you left" Neteyam spoke, shaking his head as Tuk turned around to hug him, in one swift movement he picked her up. You only smiled at the two saying it was alright, and you didn't mind it, before you two could share a conversation everyone else came along.

Your brother had stayed back into the water, swimming in the shallow area while your sister was telling you who would split up with who to teach the sully children how to ride the ilu's. He soon motioned for everyone to follow him back into the water, which they soon did. Roxto would be helping Kiri, Ao'nong would be helping Tuk, she would be helping Lo'ak, which would leave you with Neteyam.

"Did you make the pairings? It sounds like you just want to hang out with Lo'ak. I've seen you two interact, you always act so bubbly around him." You said, nudging her arm as you both turned around making your way to the shore, she only smiled trying to hide her tinted face as she blushed.

"Stop it isn't like that, we're just friends, I didn't have a choice anyways, Neteyam had already said he wanted you to be the one to help him." she spoke softly, looking at your surprised expression, stopping dead in your tracks and winking at you as she went into the water to go to Lo'ak, leaving you there with your eyes wide.

You looked over to see Neteyam in the water, already looking at you. You shut your eyes and took a deep breath before making your way over to him, quickly tying your long curly hair in a ponytail and opening your eyes again.

As you made your way into the water and walked towards Neteyam, who looked like a patient child waiting on you, you began to click your tongue and whistle calling out to your ilu. Quickly after, your ilu appeared in front of you, cooing, you pet it with a smile while you called out its name and came closer to Neteyam.

"Neteyam, this is Nima, my ilu and Nima this is Neteyam. You can climb on top of her but be gentle please. Ilu's are gentle creatures, but also very sensitive, if you feel her being difficult just let her go." You spoke, not even moving your head to look up at him, keeping your eyes on Nima.

He only thanked you and shortly climbed atop her without any effort, you held out the point of where he had to make tsaheylu. As his fingers grazed yours to grab the point you looked up at him, he smiled seeing your gaze and quickly made tsaheylu with your ilu.

"Just try to ride around for a small distance at first, then we'll practice farther, let's start with small circles." You said, whipping your head away from his gaze and motioning around you, he frowned for a while and hummed in response, directing Nima in the way he wanted.

The entire time you made sure to not look Neteyam in the eyes, just watching his figure or your ilu spin around you slowly. Although last night was flattering it was also getting dangerous, whatever tension or feelings that were beginning to grow between you two, it needed to die down and quickly.

You're a very busy young woman, you're aiding the woman and children in the clan, along with taking studies and practices with your mother to become the future tsahik. Not even mentioning how you're helping your younger brother strengthen his mind to become the future olo'eyktan of your people as he wasn't mature enough now.

Now was possibly the worst time for any sort of romantic relations to appear so abruptly, especially from a foreign family. Not even physically, but mentally and emotionally, you didn't see yourself prepared for something that needed so much dedication and work when you had barely placed any onto yourself.

You were used to compliments and being approached by several men within the village attempting to court you, but as quick as they confessed you were even quicker to reject them.

It was never as difficult as it is now to reject someone hinting towards you, so what is it about Neteyam that's making you draw closer to him than further away? The same idea kept you tossing for a while last night before finally falling asleep.

There was definitely something about him that was different, the way he looked at you in a way you still couldn't understand. Maybe in a sense that he wanted you to look at him or try to read him the way he did for you. The way he spoke to you with such grace and care, how he was with you, and even how he spoke of you when you weren't even around.

He was a strange one, that you could definitely agree with. Even so you technically can't even set him aside, as it's now your duty to welcome them to your home, and he hadn't actually said he likes you or attempted to court you. All you can do is stay and wait for the right moment to cancel all of it and cause a distance between you, seemed easy enough.

You were quickly snapped out of your thoughts when you realized you hadn't seen Neteyam make another lap infront of you. You turned around to see him on top of your ilu, zoned out as his eyes were placed on your back.

"Why did you stop?" You asked softly, slowly making your way over to him, assuming something was wrong with either him or Nima, he raised a brow motioning towards your back.

"What happened to your back?" He asked out of curiosity, you stood for a quick second, paused at his question, then remembered the large scar you had on your back. You frowned slightly, removing the band you had in your hair to let your hair down, covering your scar as you reached over your shoulder touching it.

"I'm sorry I shouldn't have asked" he said sternly, he quickly caught onto your act, stopping his tsaheylu from Nima and coming down by your side and placing his hands on your shoulders. You only shook your head, now fixing your hair behind your ears so they were away from your face.

"It's not your fault, you didn't know" you said quietly, backing away from him slightly as he let go of your shoulders. Before he was able to say anything else you quickly changed the subject, congratulating him as he was now able to ride an ilu, telling him to continue his practices. You swam your way over to your brother, telling him to keep an eye on everyone as you were to return.

Soon after your return you had found everyone had finished for the day, going their own ways, which you soon did with your little sister. You sat with the children of the village making song cords and jewelry from shells you had found this morning with them. Smiling as you saw Tuk and Riti sitting side by side, babbling too each other as they braided, smiling to yourself before being interrupted by Roxto.

He came in running, and stopped, currently hunched over trying to catch his breath, nearly startling you and the others half to death. You looked over to your friends, signaling to them you'd return, knowing Roxto of all people would only be here if something serious had occurred.

Soon after he caught his breath, one of the children handed him a cup of water to drink out of, he thanked them as you smiled, patting them on the head. Roxto pulled you and Tsireya near him, motioning to step aside so he could speak to you both. You did as such, unaware that both Riti and Tuk had followed behind the two of you as Roxto spoke.

"I have good news and bad news, which one do you want to hear first" he said with an awkward smile trying to lighten the mood. You glared at him as you all walked, turning to the side and catching a quick glance at the two children trailing behind you both. You picked up Riti, holding her to your side as you held Tuk's hand with your free one. Tsireya asked for the good news first, to which Roxto nodded.

"The tulkun are to return soon! We will be reunited along our brothers and sisters soon" he said pointing up as if saying something you hadn't already known. You rolled your eyes, walking a little slower now so Tuk could keep up with your pace. "The bad news is that a fight broke out between the sully children and Ao'nung and his friends, now everyone is kind of in trouble." He spoke rapidly, barely giving you and Tsireya time to process what had just come out his mouth.

"What?!" You both spoke in unison, honestly surprised neither of the children had heard what Roxto had said, both in their own worlds. You remained wide eyed while your sisters mouth remained agape, he only nodded, saying that all of the boys were now within your family's hut as your father had said 'Your sister will deal with you and your friends' to Ao'nung.

If you weren't holding Riti or holding Tuk's hand you would've face palmed by now for sure. You leave everyone alone for not even a few hours and trouble is striking already? The new family had barely been here a week and trouble was already spewing, this was ridiculous.

You took a deep breath arriving towards the entrance of your hut, sighing as you saw the boys all sitting around, none of them speaking to the other. You let go of Tuk's hand and placed Riti down, bending down towards their eye level and telling them to stay at the entrance where they would be seen to play. Thankfully both of them were very obedient children and only nodded and walked off hand in hand.

You made your way over to the boys, Roxto and Tsireya standing behind you. They all began to stand as you got in a good look at their faces, everyone was injured. Your brother and his friends seeming more bruised than the two sully brothers, they must be good fighters, 2 against 3-4 is impressive.

You took your time with each of them, scanning their faces and moving their heads from side to side to scan their entirety for bruises or cuts. As you made your way to Neteyam you looked him in the eyes, placing your finger underneath his chin, then grabbing it and turning his head to the side, then the other. His breath hitched and he looked down in dissapointment, unable to meet anymore of your gaze, you only huffed and moved onto Lo'ak.

Surprisingly, he barely looked at you, he was looking behind you. You quickly let out a chuckle realizing his eyes were locked on Tsireya, who kept her distance from behind you. His injuries seemed to be the least out of the group, and soon after you finished with the boys the last in line was your brother, keeping his chest puffed out.

When you grabbed his face and began to turn it, your finger made its way to a bruise on the side of his face. You pressed down on it causing him to wince in pain, backing away from you and keeping his hand over it, attempting to protect it.

"Stop causing problems, or I'll be the next one to add more bruises to your skin" you spoke softly, pointing at him. He nodded and stood back up straight, you then pointed to all of the boys, saying that phrase refers to all of them, they all nodded or hummed in agreeance.

"You two, go back to your kelku, I'm sure your parents are waiting for you." [home] You spoke, pointing to the two sully boys in annoyance and pointed towards the entrance. Before they could even move you felt two hands wrap around your legs from behind.

"What happened to your face!! Ew!!" Riti shouted, pointing at all of the boys, you quickly turned around, grabbing Riti by her arm and moving her elsewhere. The boys all looked at one another in confusion, then back at you and Riti.

"Riti, I told you to stay outside with Tuk, where is she?" You spoke, Riti only giggled and pointed behind you, to where you heard a small voice from behind you from the entrance of your hut saying 'boo!' knowing it was Tuk.

Your serious demeanor soon became soft as you laughed at the two, as Tuk came from behind you and high-foured Riti, both girls laughing. You shook your head at them both, standing up to your full height and extending your hands out to them both, each of them taking a hand.

"C'mon girls, let's go back to the others in the village, these guys are being mean, they got into a fight so now they're in trouble." You said, glaring at the boys and looking back at the two girls, who kept pointing at the boys and sharing their 'ooo's' as you exited with them. But not before seeing their ears pin flat against their heads as they blushed faintly out of embarrassment.

As you made your way back to the small pond where the children of the village stayed under your care you passed by Roxto and Tsireya, who seemed to be in deep conversation with Kiri. You only smiled to them and continued walking, now becoming lost in thought.

You needed to talk to Neteyam, maybe as soon as possible to find out exactly what the relationship between you two was. The subtle glances you two had shared earlier said a lot, but not enough to give you a genuine answer.

The way he looked at you with sadness and remorse meant something, that's the first time he's ever diverted his gaze from yours. You could tell from his look and body language that he wasn't at fault for the fight, but there still could've been a better resolution towards their problems.

Well, not really, sometimes your brother and his friends needed a good scolding or beating, thankfully they had finally gotten it. You wondered if Neteyam had spoken to anyone else about you in private, more or so how he feels about you. Maybe just maybe with the luck of Eywa you'd find that person, or him at the right time to speak about it.

You were now at a small campfire with majority of your friends, none of the boys to be seen other an A'tan, who sat beside Kiri and his younger sister Riti. Riti and Tuk were now drawing in the sand while giggling to one another as you, your sister, A'tan, and Kiri were talking about the fight that had happened, leaving you to shake your head.

"I'm sorry for the problems my brother causes, he's so immature and stupid" you said softly to Kiri, who only shook her head and laughed. Apparently, she didn't care for what had happened prior, as the fight was amusing enough to her where she laughed so hard, she cried. A'tan sat with his legs stretched out as he laughed, repeating the phrase of picturing Ao'nung falling to the ground just to pin Lo'ak down. You smiled, looking over to Tsireya and seeing her facial expression seeming as if she was in pain, wincing at the thought.

You had all agreed that the entire situation was unexpected, but amusing. Now wondering where all of the boys were, and what their punishments have been, or how severe they wer-

"Guys!! Guys!!" You heard a familiar voice shout from afar, running towards you snapping you out of your thoughts. All of you quickly turned your heads towards the voice only to see Roxto, running towards you all.

"You're getting in a lot of cardio today" Tsireya joked, earning a snicker from you. Roxto paused, catching his breath as he came up to you, placing his hands on his knees then standing straight.

'Really bad news, you need to come with me, now.' He signed, still attempting to catch his breath, nodding as you raised a brow and signed back in return if it had to do with the boys. Chills ran down your spine as you looked up at the night sky, quickly standing up.

"Stay with the children, both of you. We'll return soon enough." You said, pointing at Tsireya and A'tan, motioning for Kiri to follow along with you. You began to walk back towards the main docs of the reefs, as Roxto began explaining that's where everyone was as something terrible had happened.

The more you heard from him the sicker you felt, this was horrible truly. How could Lo'ak end up outside of the reef in the middle of the ocean unsupervised? No one was hunting especially not out this late in the night, he had only just gotten here with his family.

"And apparently, Ao'nung let him out there, as a way to get revenge and prank him after the f-"

"What." You spoke, cutting Roxto off, your heart dropping hearing his words as you stood in the sand. Your eyes hung wide as you looked at him in disbelief, there's no way.

Your brother, your stupid, selfish, childish, ignorant brother led Lo'ak out into the reefs? Alone? No one has heard or seen of him since early afternoon? Your head began to spin, and your heart pounded hard, whatever Roxto was saying now was going in one ear and out the other.

He placed his hands on your shoulders, speaking to you, but you couldn't hear him, drowning in your own thoughts. Without thought you removed his hands from your shoulders, pushing him off as you now darted straight for the docks, being pushed by nothing but adrenaline and fear.

The distance wasn't far between the length you had walked and the docks, which you made it too in short time, pushing past the crowd and going towards the front. As you were there you scanned for the waters and edge of the doc until you saw Lo'ak, who was being checked by his mother. Without thought you rushed over to him, not even realizing Neteyam was behind you, watching his brother's movements, waiting for the right time to approach him.

"Lo'ak!" You shouted, quickly grabbing his face and examining his body for injuries, repeatedly asking if he was alright or if he was injured. As he was barely able to scramble an answer out you quickly turned him around, checking his back for any scars or injuries similar to yours.

You exhaled in relief to see nothing on his back as he turned back around, you kept your hands on his shoulders. Your eyes were squeezed tight, you drew in a quick breath before letting him go, placing your hands over your eyes, attempting to not cry.

Why did this have to happen? After everything you went through in those dangerous waters years ago, it all had to come back within an instant to haunt you. You could never catch a break, and it was killing you, as exciting and fun your morning was you never expected your night to turn out this way.

You backed away from Lo'ak, making your way over to Ao'nung, before he, or your parents were able to open their mouths, you shoved him, to which he held his ground.

"Is your head just empty, or are you so blinded by getting your way that you didn't realize you could've killed someone today?!" You shouted, tears streaming down your face as you spoke, unable to even look him in his eyes.

"You know what lurks out in those waters, you know of what happens to those that go there! They either escape just barely, or they don't!! You know because of what happened to me!" You shouted again, now shoving him harder, feeling a strong arm from behind attempt to pull you back.

You only stood your ground, wiping your tears and looking up at your brother, seeing pure sorrow and regret in his eyes as he looked back at you. Then placing his head down in shame, unable to look at you, his eyes tearing up as well.

"I'm sorry tsmuke, I never expected that he would've encountered with the aku-" [sister]

You quickly cut him off, slapping him, hard. Quickly brushing off your father's arm that was holding you back. Your previous sadness and fear now turning into rage, you stood looking at him and clenching your fist as your palm burned slightly.

"Your apology won't take back what the pxazangs did to me." [akulas] You said with a snarl, your father quickly pulled you two apart from one another, shouting at you and pulling you away. You didn't fight him, you knew better than to try, you only turned your shoulder to see your brother with his head still held down as he kept a hand on his cheek from where you had slapped him.

You soon heard Lo'ak speaking and light chatter begin to form as you walked by, but you didn't pay attention. Continuing to walk as you kept your hands at your sides, bawling them both into fists, soon making eye-contact with Neteyam, who looked at you with such sadness. You only returned his look with a cold gaze, then meeting the floor as you left the docks, passing by Kiri who had walked up behind Neteyam and Roxto, who was outside.

You ignored his pleas and attempts to cheer your mood, seeing your sad and twisted face, walking towards the place of where the family had trained this morning. You called for Nima, who came within seconds, before climbing upon her, making tsaheylu and submerging underneath the dark blue sea. You only peeked over your shoulder, feeling the waters drain your eyes of any tears you had left to fall, making sure you weren't followed, before diverting your gaze back ahead of you.

You looked ahead and directed your ilu to a secluded part of the reefs, a large rock caved in is where you rested. Nothing had ever rested or grown in or around it, which is what first caught your attention when you had first seen it. Overtime it became a safe haven for you, you'd had it decorated sweetly on the inside, as it was protected within by features of the land and a massive air bubble, allowing you to remain there as long as you wanted.

Soon after sending your ilu off, you turned back to your little home, a frown pasted on your face. You soon walked over to the large woven blankets you'd piled in the corner, calling it you 'bed', sitting atop it. You sat and huddled your knees towards your chest, resting your forehead on them as you began to tear up, lost in thought.

Your heart felt flooded with shame and betrayal, upset with yourself and the entire world. You didn't like how you sprung out without thought, or the fact you had hurt your brother. You didn't like the fact your father pulled you back and silenced you when you attempted to express what you had gone through. You didn't like how the clan exchanged strange glances at you, not after slapping your brother, but after mentioning something had happened to you out in the waters.

It had felt as if the entire world had forgotten of you and what you'd gone through, or how you still struggle with it today. Barely being able to keep yourself together you break down into sobs, loud ones. The best part about being in a part of the ocean no one knows about is that no one will hear you, and your tears will go back to the ocean.

Responsibilities within your family were too great to bear, you were needed for everything. Whether to help out anyone within or outside of the family or burying your build of emotions in order to help others with theirs, it was too much. You hadn't meant to do or say any of the things you did, and you hadn't meant to be so vile or selfish, but maybe just this once it wouldn't hurt to be selfish.

Just this once, you needed time to yourself, real time. Not taking after others or being a rag used to clean everything up and left out to dry. The pain of being overlooked was too much, and the pain of your past trauma or greatest insecurity still finding its way to haunt you was even worse.

No matter how hard you thought you could try or how much work you'd bury yourself underneath, problems you refuse to deal with will always make their way back to you.

There’s a thought stirring in Bridge’s mind. An idea rolling about and nudging against the capacitors in her head, poking and prodding incessantly to get her attention, “Hey, hey, you know you want to ask her. Don’t you? Don’t lie to yourself, now. You should just do it. Hey! Are you listening to me? Hello-o…?”

Yes. Yes, she knows, she is aware of her burning curiosity. And it’s hard to deny that even though it doesn’t involve her, she is unusually intrigued by the concept. She overheard them in his office, Miguel and LYLA–his A.I. assistant–discussing a plan.  A plan to create a physical form for LYLA to enhance her abilities as his assistant and grant her further autonomy beyond her access to the security network and other adjacent systems alongside her recent emergence into emotional intelligence. It was all so fascinating. The steps Bridge had taken herself in her development in the span of weeks, she was watching unfold in another intelligence in real-time.

Most mornings, before walking into City Hall in Hallandale Beach, Fla., a small city north of Miami, Sabrina Javellana would sit in the parking lot and monitor her Twitter and Instagram accounts. After winning a seat on the Hallandale Beach city commission in 2018, at age 21, she became one of the youngest elected officials in Florida’s history. Her progressive political positions had sometimes earned her enemies: After proposing a name change for a state thoroughfare called Dixie Highway in late 2019, she regularly received vitriolic and violent threats on social media; her condemnation of police brutality and calls for criminal-justice reform prompted aggressive rhetoric from members of local law enforcement. Disturbing messages were nothing new to her.

The morning of Feb. 5, 2021, though, she noticed an unusual one. “Hi, just wanted to let you know that somebody is sharing pictures of you online and discussing you in quite a grotesque manner,” it began. “He claims that he’s one of your ‘guy friends.’”

Javellana froze. Who could have sent this message? She asked for evidence, and the sender responded with pixelated screenshots of a forum thread that included photos of her. There were comments that mentioned her political career. Had her work drawn these people’s ire? Eventually, with a friend’s help, she found a set of archived pages from the notorious forum site 4chan. Most of the images were pulled from her social media and annotated with obscene, misogynistic remarks: “not thicc enough”; “I would breed her”; “no sane person would date such a stupid creature.” But one image further down the thread stopped her short. She was standing in front of a full-length mirror with her head tilted to the side, smiling playfully. She had posted an almost identical selfie, in which she wore a brown crew-neck top and matching skirt, to her Instagram account back in 2015. “It was the exact same picture,” Javellana said of the doctored image. “But I wasn’t wearing any clothes.”

There were several more. These were deepfakes: A.I.-generated images that manipulate a person’s likeness, fusing it with others to create a false picture or video, sometimes pornographic, in a way that looks authentic. Although fake explicit material has existed for decades thanks to image-editing software, deepfakes stand out for their striking believability. Even Javellana was shaken by their apparent authenticity.

“I didn’t know that this was something that happened to everyday people,” Javellana told me when I visited her earlier this year in Florida. She wondered if anyone else had seen the photos or the abusive comments online. Several of the threads even implied that people on the forum knew her. “I live in Broward County,” one comment read. “She just graduated from FIU.” Other users threatened sexual violence. In the days that followed, Javellana became increasingly fearful and paranoid. She stopped walking alone at night and started triple-checking that her doors and windows were locked before she slept. In an effort to protect her personal life, she made her Instagram private and removed photographs of herself in a bathing suit.

Discovering the images changed how Javellana operated professionally. Attending press events was part of her job, but now she felt anxious every time someone lifted their camera. She worried that public images of her would be turned into pornography, so she covered as much of her body as she could, favoring high-cut blouses and blazers. So, Video Game Voice Actors Are On Strike: A Quick and Dirty Guide for Tumblr Users

Starting on July 26th, SAG-AFTRA members that are part of the Interactive Media Agreement (so mostly voice actors for video games) will be on strike. If you're a member of SAG-AFTRA with questions, I would speak to them.

Most of this information is coming from the SAG-AFTRA website, feel free to correct me if I'm wrong about anything or ask if you need anything.

If you are a random tumblr user who wants to know what's going on, here we go.

Why are video game voice actors striking?

AI, as one could expect. From the union's statement:

Although agreements have been reached on many issues important to SAG-AFTRA members, the employers refuse to plainly affirm, in clear and enforceable language, that they will protect all performers covered by this contract in their A.I. language.

Which Games Are Being Struck?

Games from: Activision Productions Inc., Blindlight LLC, Disney Character Voices Inc., Electronic Arts Productions Inc., Formosa Interactive LLC, Insomniac Games Inc., Llama Productions LLC, Take 2 Productions Inc., VoiceWorks Productions Inc., and WB Games Inc. are all being struck.

There is also a website to confirm which union projects are being struck but you'd need to be a member actively working on it to use it.

Ok so I'm not a voice actor, union or otherwise, I just like games. What should I do.

I can NOT stress this enough. Do NOT stop playing games. The union has not asked for this, and is instead asking for people to amplify our messages online using #LevelUpTheContract, #VideoGameStrike and #SagAftraStrong."

I'm not a union representative but if a game you're looking forward to is being covered by the struck companies, I'd blow up your social media and their mentions with how much you love the voice acting and the actors deserve a fair contract, but other than that you are not being asked to boycott any games or not cosplay or attend events.

Wait didn't SAG-AFTRA already do some weird bullshit regarding video game voice actors and AI?

Yes, at the Consumer Electronics Show in January, SAG-AFTRA signed a deal with Replica AI to allow their members to create digital replicas, it was a whole thing and many voice actors were pissed.

So they're hypocrites?

Ok it's more complicated than that. Their logic for the Replica AI thing is rather than allow companies to do whatever they want, it was better to have a system in place to be able to clearly say when a company was breaking the rules and ensure that talent got some compensation.

We can debate the efficacy of that strategy all day and voice actors at the time were not happy, BUT the companies being struck here refuse to even rise to THAT standard and will not agree to the most basic protections for actors, which is worse.

People and organizations contain multitudes and it is not a betrayal or hypocritical to disagree with SAG-AFTRA leadership on the Replica AI situation and side with them, and more importantly their members in this case.

Why aren't game devs striking/ It's not devs on strike so I don't care

The Screen Actors Guild covers actors, so it would not be in everyone's best interest if they were to try and negotiate on behalf of people in different fields with different needs.

However, one way to build support for the various movements to unionize at places like Activision-Blizzard and Bethesda is to support labor movements everywhere and show solidarity whenever it comes up.

Why are the actors striking when the developers should be paid more.

They should be paid more! And they should not be laid off as much. One way to help with that is to be able to point to voice actors and say, hey they got a raise, I want one too.

Hi! I'm trying to get into writing twst fanfiction, but I'm having some trouble with keeping the boys in-character. What do you think are their base traits? Like, what's the foundation of their personalities?

Hello! I spent a long time debating about whether to respond to this ask or not. Ultimately, a lot of the thoughts I would include in my response are the same as what I have already expressed here. However, I've noticed that this has become sort of a recurring issue, so I'd like to address this more seriously.

I've recently been getting a lot of people requesting that I basically tell them how to write the Twst characters. Tens and tens of them, in fact (too many to include all in one post). Sometimes it's an ask like, "please list out strengths/weaknesses or a summary of their character traits", and sometimes it's more specific like, "here is a prompt I am working on; how do you think [character] would act in this situation?" I'm NOT comfortable with either type of ask and refuse to answer asks of this nature.

I want to be clear: this is NOT the same as asking for general writing advice; this is literally just asking to be spoon-fed the answers. There is a difference between seeking advice on how to overcome writer's block or asking what are techniques to show, don't tell (which is general writing advice) versus asking someone to specifically instruct them on how to write Leona Kingscholar from the hit Disney mobile game Twisted Wonderland. The former is okay with me, while the latter is not.

While I am flattered that people care about my opinion and hold it in high regard, I am not here to be a cheat sheet, and nor are my opinions the "most correct". There is no single "correct" way to write a character, and even if there was, it's certainly not mine. Only the Twst devs themselves are the "most correct", as whatever they produce is what ends up as canon.

As I have said in my previous post on this topic, having someone else tell you how to write does little to help you. Writing is a skill, and skills are not inherent. They are something you train in, practice, and learn. Looking at a bunch of adjectives will not help you write or understand the characters any better than you currently do. If anything, it just means you don’t develop or practice your critical analysis skills. In a worse-case scenario, it devalues what a writer does, as it places the burden on them to condense what they know into a laundry list of characterization--as if it doesn't take us tons of time to hone those writing skills. The only real way to get the results you want is to do your own research, develop your own interpretations, and practice, practice, practice. There is no magic pill or shortcut or streamlining or easy way to do it and come out with a quality result. You have to be willing to put in the time and the effort to learn a skill, and that extends to writing, be it for this fandom, another fandom, or even for non-fandom writing. Think about it like this: when you're writing a good research paper, do you go and ask a single other source to gather all your data and summarize it for you? Of course not. You have to go out and manually collect the resources, do the reading, take notes, and gain an understanding of those resources. Then you use your newfound knowledge to summarize and to synthesize your own conclusions in your research paper. The same logic applies for writing in fandom.

I'm not sure why there is this sudden interest in shortcuts. Is it social media shortening our attention spans? Is it the rise of A.I. like ChatGPT making people more reliant on and more comfortable with summaries? Is it that people are concerned with nailing characterization or instant success the first time around? Is it that the internet's so much crueler with comments + feedback that we want to avoid OOC-ness as much as possible? Is it that I just so happen to like talking about character analysis so people think I must know everything? It could be any of these reasons or a combination of them--but whatever the reasoning is, it still leaves a bad taste in my mouth. It's concerning to me that it seems like people are becoming less and less interested in thinking for themselves and instead are increasingly reliant on others telling them how to create. You NEED to fail and get stuff wrong. You NEED to be able to have the courage to try things on your own. Don't be afraid of failure--failure isn't inherently a bad thing, it is how we learn, grow, and shape our own styles and ways of thinking! I definitely was not perfect when I first started out. I had to fail and stumble and struggle to get my craft to where it is today. So did every single one of your favorite creators. Artists had stick figures, writers had their first words. No artist or writer started off making masterpieces. Arguably, they still don't. Every creator is continuously learning and trying to improve their craft. It's not as though they hit perfection one day and decided to stay stagnant. I feel that it devalues what we make when we try to boil down all the skill we've developed into easy "answer keys" for others to digest. Again, you can ask all you want and seek out as many shortcuts as you like, but that's not going to be properly absorbed into your brain unless you walk the walk for yourself. You can't assume that learning these things will be as easy as reading a summary, memorizing a tutorial, figuring out what brush someone uses, etc.--it wasn't for the people you're asking for this advice from either. Failing is normal and expected. You will also never be able to create something that pleases everyone or something that everyone agrees with--so instead of trying to appeal to an unseen audience, please focus on creating what makes you happy. You have your own creative journeys ahead of you, so don't be scared to walk that road! It can be tough and you'll hit roadblocks and challenges--but overcome them, and you'll become even stronger and more skilled than you were before.

What, exactly, does a social network do? Is it a website that connects people with one another online, a digital gathering place where we can consume content posted by our friends? That’s certainly what it was in its heyday, in the two-thousands. Facebook was where you might find out that your friend was dating someone new, or that someone had thrown a party without inviting you. In the course of the past decade, though, social media has come to resemble something more like regular media. It’s where we find promotional videos created by celebrities, pundits shouting responses to the news, aggregated clips from pop culture, a rising tide of A.I.-generated slop, and other content designed to be broadcast to the largest number of viewers possible. The people we follow and the messages they post increasingly feel like needles in a digital haystack. Social media has become less social.

Facebook’s founder, Mark Zuckerberg, admitted as much during more than ten hours of testimony, over three days last week, in the opening phase of the Federal Trade Commission’s antitrust trial against Facebook’s parent company, Meta. The company, Zuckerberg said, has lately been involved in “the general idea of entertainment and learning about the world and discovering what’s going on.” This under-recognized shift away from interpersonal communication has been measured by the company itself. During the defense’s opening statement, Meta displayed a chart showing that the “percent of time spent viewing content posted by ‘friends’ ” has declined in the past two years, from twenty-two per cent to seventeen per cent on Facebook, and from eleven per cent to seven per cent on Instagram.

The F.T.C. is arguing that Meta maintained an illegal monopoly in the “personal social networking services” industry, in part by buying up Facebook’s competitors, such as Instagram, which the company acquired in 2012, and the messaging platform WhatsApp, which it acquired in 2014. But the F.T.C.’s definition of the social-media industry is hazy, and the antitrust case was already dismissed once, in 2021, partly because the “personal social networking services” market was too loosely defined. Meta’s counter-argument is, in a sense, that social media per se doesn’t exist now in the way that it did in the twenty-tens, and that what the company’s platforms are now known for—the digital consumption of all kinds of content—has become so widespread that no single company or platform can be said to monopolize it. In one of its slides at trial, Meta exhibited a graphic of a boxing ring showing the logos of Instagram, Facebook, and the various companies that Meta argues are competitors, including TikTok, YouTube, and Apple’s iMessage, though the F.T.C. doesn’t define any of those three as such. The company also used smartphone screenshots from the various apps to demonstrate how they’ve gravitated toward common formats: short video clips look similar on both Instagram and TikTok; messages look essentially the same in Instagram DMs as on Apple’s iMessage. Even as such similarities serve as helpful evidence for Meta’s defense, they also demonstrate how stultifying the entire online ecosystem has become. While in 2012 Facebook may have seemed singular and inescapable, now it looks like part of a crowded marketplace of apps competing to serve the same purpose.

The F.T.C.’s case, which originated during Donald Trump’s first term, entails reëvaluating business deals that it approved more than a decade ago, when the industry looked dramatically different. This makes the commission’s case less than airtight. Benedict Evans, an influential technology analyst, called the F.T.C.’s market definition of social networks “gerrymandering.” He told me, “By the F.T.C.’s definition, TikTok doesn’t compete with Facebook at all. Does that mean it would be O.K. for Facebook to buy TikTok?” Antitrust lawyers must prove that allegedly monopolistic practices cause consumer harm. In another antitrust case currently unfolding against Google, a court found that the company maintained a monopoly over parts of the online-advertising market by integrating its various automated advertising technologies, illegally privileging itself and harming its publishing customers by “reducing their revenue.” In the case of Meta, though, there is no price differential to point to—Meta’s platforms all allow users to access them for free—so the question of harm is less clear-cut.

The F.T.C. is arguing, instead, that Meta’s purported monopoly has led to a lack of innovation and to reduced consumer choice. But that, too, is difficult to prove in the case of Meta’s WhatsApp and Instagram acquisitions, because both sales occurred early in those companies’ life spans. In 2014, when WhatsApp was acquired, it had around half a billion users; now it has more than two billion. As Evans put it, the F.T.C. is arguing that “if Meta hadn’t bought WhatsApp, it would have become this voracious competitor.” He continued, “What we all actually know from following the history is that the founders of WhatsApp didn’t want to do any of the things that Meta did to fuel its runaway expansion. One of WhatsApp’s founders once compared the service’s goals to those of Craigslist, Zuckerberg recalled during his testimony. Meta, by contrast, aggressively pursued growth, loading WhatsApp with features such as social groups and video calls. The F.T.C. notes that market competition can result in “improved features, functionalities, integrity measures, and user experiences”; it’s hard to mount a persuasive argument that an independent WhatsApp would necessarily have provided more of those things than a Zuckerberg-owned one. (Many social networks fail; Path and Google+ were two other threats that Zuckerberg perceived, but neither grew into a viable competitor. He did at one point attempt to buy Snapchat, and though that company survived, it failed to become a major rival.)

One of the most surprising moments in Zuckerberg’s testimony came when the F.T.C. presented him with a memo that he sent to company executives, in 2018, suggesting that it might be better to spin Instagram into its own entity by choice. Zuckerberg wrote that Instagram was potentially undermining Facebook’s success, and that businesses that are independent often perform better than they would within a parent conglomerate. “Over time we may face antitrust regulation requiring us to spin off our other apps anyway,” he noted, with some prescience. Seven years ago, before the advent of TikTok and the diversification of content across digital platforms, that kind of split might have resulted in more varied products for users, more quickly—or it might not have. Either way, the social-media landscape today is arguably in the midst of a dramatic overhaul. TikTok may ultimately be banned; generative A.I. may supplant the existing model of an open, user-generated internet. On April 15th, the Verge broke the news that OpenAI is developing a social network of its own, to compete with the likes of Instagram and X. The F.T.C. may be chasing an old problem just as newer, bigger ones appear on the horizon.

This week, the European Union fined Apple and Meta for anticompetitive practices, but the penalties—five hundred million euros and two hundred million euros, respectively—are relatively modest. If the U.S. case prevails, the F.T.C. will have to decide whether to force a wholesale breakup of Meta or seek less dramatic “remedies.” One factor in this calculus might be the wishes of President Trump. In recent months, Zuckerberg has visited the White House repeatedly, and he’s ingratiated himself to the Administration with moves, at Meta, against D.E.I. and fact-checking. So far, despite a growing closeness with Silicon Valley, Trump has nevertheless continued to back the suit against Meta. As in the Administration’s ongoing trade war, Trump appreciates a pronounced threat as a tool to force a deal. Bytedance, the owner of TikTok, has all but capitulated to a mandated sale of a majority of the company. With regard to Trump, at least, Zuckerberg might be expected to capitulate one way or another.

You didn't have a chance to properly meet everyone at first as you were busy with the children of the village, watching over them and teaching them as their families fulfilled their duties.

Truth was you were excited, well somewhat. You smiled listening to your younger sister, Tsireya describe her meeting with the family.

"And I can't believe how rude Roxto and Aunong were, laughing at their tails. Of course, they look different from us they're from the omatikayan clan" she complained, shaking her head as you did the same. Now walking along side by side with her back to your family's hut.

"Kaltxì sa'nok, sempul [Hello mother, father] " You said softly, greeting your parents, as they greeted you back in return, to which you helped them prepare for the dinner. Just as you were finishing with the table and cleaning the floors you heard a familiar voice call your name.

"Y/n, are you here" you heard the voice call, you turned around to see none other than one of your students.

"Riti? Eywa why are you here?" you said softly, placing the cloths you were using to clean down and walking over to her, crouching down to her level. "It's dangerous to be here all alone, where is your grandmother?" You asked, she just shook her head and hugged you, to which you hugged her back holding her tightly.

"I got lost, and I tried to look for her, but I couldn't! I came here because I know you can help me get back home" she said in a soft tone, you could hear the pain in her voice. You looked over to your mother, before you could utter a word, she only nodded her head.

"Go, we will finish here, it's alright" She said softly, smiling at you both. Just as you had lifted Riti in your arms your brother and his best friend walked in. Immediately questioning where you were about to go and what was going on.

"I have to help Riti to get home, please stay here and help prepare for tonight's dinner. Please behave and be respectful to our guests." You said sternly, making sure both boys heard your statement as a warning if they did misbehave. With that you simply turned out and began to walk off back into the main parts of the village in attempts to find Riti's grandmother as you patted her back softly. "Mawey Riti, we'll find her soon I promise" you whispered to her, feeling her nod in response.

By the time you had reunited Riti with her grandmother the sun had completely fallen from the sky, well almost entirely. Surprisingly it was still dim enough to see your way back to your hut, and you returned rather quickly. The trip seems rather short without a sad toddler hanging onto your shoulder and torso. Outside of your hut you heard small chatter and laughter, you entered slowly, passing your hands over the beads at the entrance, careful to none of them to hit your face as they have several times before.

"Kaltxì frapo, [Hello everyone] I apologize for my tardiness" you said rather quickly, motioning the 'I see you' gesture to your family and new guests, as all chatter died down as soon as you entered the room. You were greeted in return as you take the opportunity to walk over to the side, cleaning your hands before taking a seat next to your sister and smiling.

"This is our eldest daughter, who we were speaking of, Y/n" your father said, directing his hand in your direction, you only nodded and added on to his words "it's nice to meet you all, you seem like such a lovely family" and they thanked you for your kind words,

One of the na'vi had his eyes on you ever since you walked into the hut, never taking them off of you. His gaze was intense, a little too intense, especially for your liking.

As you ate you listened to the conversation at the table spin around in all kinds of ways, but it was mainly the father of the omatikayan family and your own father conversing.

Your sister had her points to begin with, this family is different, their skin their hair, eyes, everything. You had heard stories of their people, and of the great Toruk Makto, but seeing them all in person here seemed to be some sort of dream.

Whenever you were to look up you'd catch glimpses of the same na'vi eyeing you, at first it was strange but now you were beginning to grow curious. The way he looked at you reminded you of the way the children you care for in the village look at things that interest them; eyes of curiosity. You chuckled to yourself slightly reminiscing on the faces of Riti and her peers when you had mentioned things to them, all curious or confused.

"Oh what's so funny?" Tsireya whispered in your ear, you just shook your head and continued eating, placing a finger over your lips. She smiled at you and continued to eat.

"I apologize, I never was able to truly introduce my family and I properly to you all." The eldest na'vi from the omatikayan clan spoke, the father of the family. The table quieted down and you looked over to your siblings and Roxto, who were already exchanging glances to one another.

'Are we introducing ourselves too?' Roxto signed, you and Aunong both shrugged.

'Maybe our father will again like he did this morning' Tsireya signed back, you nodded and then signed for them to focus as names were being called.

"My name is Jake Sully, this is my mate Neytiri and our children. Here is our youngest daughter is Tuk, beside her is our oldest daughter Kiri, next to her is our son Lo'ak, and next to him is our oldest son Neteyam" he said, using his hand as a guide between each person as he named them, you nodded as each of them either waved or smiled as their names were called.

So, his name is Neteyam. Thats definitely something you'll need to hold onto for later, your memory has never been the best, but you'll need it for now.

As conversation was picked up you soon heard your father introducing you all as well, you drank some water and glanced over, seeing Neteyam already peeking a glance at you. You placed your cup down and smiled softly at him, as he did in return.

"I am Tonowari, the oletekayan of our people, my wife Ronal is the tsahik of our people and these are our children, Tsireya, Y/n, Aunong, and his close friend Roxto." your father spoke, you nodded again and continued to eat your food.

Towards everyone finishing their meals and conversing and cleaning you heard knocking coming from outside the hut, you turned around as your back was facing the entrance as your father told whoever was outside to come in, to your surprise it was none other than Riti's older brother A'tan. He greeted everyone and stepped further towards the table as your mother was offering for him to eat along with the families, you immediately shook your head.

You quickly excused yourself and apologized for leaving so quickly as you went up to him and ushering him back outside.

"Why are you here? Is something wrong with Riti?" You asked, he shook his head and chuckled at you.

"Well hello to you too, and no she's fine. Her and my grandmother wanted me to gift these to you as a thank you for helping her today." He said as he handed you a small bouquet of syulì'angs [flutterflowers] as an expression of gratitude, you smiled widely, showing your teeth as you thanked him.

He only shook his head and said you deserved it as he quickly took his leave wishing you a good night. You soon walked back inside and placed the bouquet in a tall pot of water, smiling as you placed it near the table.

"Wow, it's so pretty!" The youngest sully, Tuk said loudly, pointing at your flowers and earning a 'shh' from her family, you only laughed.

"Yes, they're very beautiful, it was given to me as a gift, I can give you one if you'd like but you have to promise me you'll take good care of it" you say to her, reaching over and removing one flower from the bouquet and giving it to her, she nodded her head vigorously and smiled widely, making you do the same. She quickly thanked you and walked around to her each of her family to show them the flower. As she walked over to Neteyam and began to babble about it he turned to you, mouthing the words 'Thank you', to which you smiled and nodded, feeling your face get slightly heated.

You began cleaning the table with your sister and mother, as did Kiri and her mother while conversation began to slowly die down and everyone was speaking of tomorrows plans.

Your father was going over how you and your siblings were responsible for teaching the sully children the way of your people, swimming, bonding and having their own ilu, etc. It wasn't anything you haven't done before with the other metkayina children, so naturally you just shrugged it off and continued cleaning.

"Can I sit beside you?" You heard a voice ask, you looked up to see Neteyam, pointing at the empty patch of sand beside you, you nodded and hummed in response, patting the ground. He only smiled at you and took his seat. "Thank you again for giving your flower to my sister, she can't stop talking about it" he said, looking over to you and then out at the waters.

"She seems like such a sweetheart, you're lucky to have her, I might steal her from you" you joke, hearing a laugh come from Neteyam, making you laugh as well.

"Yes please, take her far, far away, that girl brings me trouble" He laughed, shaking his head slightly. You smiled at him, understanding what he meant, your siblings too always gave you trouble, but your love for them remained unconditional.

As the laughter between you two died down you looked out into the view in silence, you then began to look down at your feet, digging them in the sand partially as you rested your arms against your knees that were hiked up. You looked over to the oldest sully child just to find him already looking at you, smiling when he caught your eyes.

"Hi" he whispered, you smiled and repeated the phrase back to him, then a question popped up in your head which you busted out saying without a thought.

"Why were you just staring at me during dinner?" You asked quickly, slapping a hand over your mouth after seeming how rude that must've sounded, he changed his posture, now sitting with his legs crossed.

"You intrigue me. Also, you're very beautiful" He responded honestly, still not taking his eyes off of you, you looked down at your feet tilting your head to the side as you felt a heat rush through your whole body. He smiled catching a small glimpse of your blushing cheeks.

"You're bold for saying that so quickly, you barely know me." You said softly, not wanting to look into his piercing gaze again now knowing his true intentions.

series summary: After what starts out as a fairly normal mission, you find yourself stuck in a time loop. Which would already be bad enough in itself if it didn’t also mean having to watch Bucky die over and over again.

You wake up with a start to the sun in your face and FRIDAY blasting The All-American Rejects at full volume.

For a moment, you’re completely disoriented, staring at your surroundings in confusion. You’re in your own bedroom back at the Tower, your feet tangled in the sheets and eyes still bleary. You almost let yourself believe that it was all just a nightmare, another horrible dream conjured up by some subconscious remnants of the past, although even the worst of your dreams haven’t felt as real as what you just went through.

The idea is short-lived, anyway.

Your hands are still shaking when you lift them to your face. There’s blood all over your palms and stuck under your fingernails, leaving crimson stains on your bedding. Bucky’s blood.

You swallow down the bile that rises in your stomach and carefully twist your rings around on your fingers, one after the other. All of them are completely pitch black, darker than you’ve ever seen them.

Then again, you’ve never tried anything like this.

You clear your throat and take a deep breath. “FRIDAY?” you say cautiously. The music quietens as the A.I. comes to attention with a gentle tinkle. “What day is it?”

“Today is Friday, July 4th,” FRIDAY tells you.

You huff incredulously, your heart still pounding wildly. Somehow, you did it. It’s yesterday morning again. You actually did it.

Stumbling, you reach your tiny bathroom and stare at yourself in the mirror. There’s a tiny nick on your left cheek from where the white jacket hit you with your gun last night, but you couldn’t care less because you’re back. It worked.

You scrub your hands under the hot water until it runs clear again, still stunned. You can’t remember ever jumping backwards that far, not without feeling completely exhausted anyway, but right now, you’re strangely alright, even though the adrenaline is still rushing through your veins.

The mix of emotions running through your head is so confusing that you don’t notice the band around your wrist until you’re drying off your hands.

It’s so close to your skin it almost looks like a tattoo, partially translucent and glowing dimly emerald. Instinctively, you try to rub at it, but your fingers go straight through it and you feel a tiny spark of electricity. When you hold out your hand at the right angle, you can see it’s made up of tiny symbols forming geometric shapes, moving around your arm in a slow, seamless circle. The longer you stare at it, the more hairs stand up on the back of your neck.

There’s a pounding at your door, followed immediately by Sam’s voice. “Rise and shine, McFly! Time to get your ass kicked!”

You look at the clock on your bedroom wall. It’s shortly before 8 a.m., which gives you almost the entire day before you’re called on that mission. More than enough time to recuperate your powers and figure out a plan to make sure everything goes smoothly this time.

Until then, you just have to act normally.

“Not gonna happen, birdbrain!” you shout back, just like you did yesterday, and go through the pile of semi-clean gym clothes by the foot of your bed. As you get changed, you take another second to look at the strange emerald band around your wrist. Then, you pull a sweatband over it to camouflage it. You’ll deal with this later. For now, it’s training with Sam, a shower and breakfast.

And discreetly checking up on Bucky in a normal, non I Just Watched You Die kind of way. You can totally manage that.

“Don’t ever wake me up like that again!” you call out to Sam, closing the door to your room behind you.

He pushes away from the wall and falls into step next to you, grinning. “Sweet white teenage angst not your style?”

“You’re the worst.” The song is stuck in your head now, too, just like yesterday, but unlike then, you can’t find it in you to be mad about that fact. You did it.

“You’re in a good mood,” Sam remarks as you’re climbing up the stairs and you look at him in surprise. This is new.

Yester-today you didn’t talk at all on your way to the gym, what with you being both tired and annoyed at him. You’re usually wary about changing details during your redos, because the tiniest things can make the outcome of a situation unpredictable.

Still, you’ve never gone this far back. And isn’t this about making today a better day, really?

So you smile. “And that’s a bad thing?”

“Not bad,” Sam says, eyebrow still raised. “Suspicious, maybe. Are you gonna salt someone’s coffee again?”

“I did that one time.” You roll your eyes as you push open the door to the gym. It’s a lot smaller than the one at the Compound was, and you particularly miss the swimming pool, but the view from the Tower is without compare. Midtown looks magnificent in the early sunlight.

You drop your rings into the little metal bowl you keep next to the window and climb into the boxing ring after Sam, stretching your back.

“Let’s get this over with, then.”

Before Sam and Bucky found you, you hadn’t sparred for months and not exactly missed it. Training with soldiers and former assassins who held back every single punch and still managed to drop you on the mat with infuriating ease had never been very fun for you, and what with the universe saved and all, you hadn’t really seen the point in keeping up the practice once the dust blew over. Now that you’re regularly going on missions again, though, you have to stay in shape.

And although you hate to admit it even to yourself, there is something calming about being back in a routine like this. It keeps your head from getting stuck in the fuzzy grayness of it all. Damn those dopamines your therapist keeps telling you about.

Today, though, this today, your eyes are continually drawn to the door while you’re dodging and blocking Sam. It makes you sloppy even by your standards, which are mediocre at best thanks to your impatience. Of course it doesn’t escape his notice.

“What is up with you today?” he asks when he helps you get back to your feet for the third time this morning.

You dab the sweat off your face, hissing when you accidentally rub the cut on your cheek. At least Sam hasn’t said anything about that. “Slept weird,” you say evasively.

“Nightmare?” he offers with a compassionate look.

“Sort of,” you answer. “Feels a little … déjà-vu-y.”

“I know the type,” Sam says. “Wanna talk about it?”

You do. But the time stuff is your problem to deal with, and so you shake your head.

“Alright,” he says, rolling his shoulders back and raising an eyebrow. “Come on, then. You gotta get one kick in, at least, and hurry up, because I’m starving.”

“You could stop moving, then we’re done faster,” you grin. Your stomach is growling, too.

“Nice try, McFly.”

“You used that one earlier,” you say, shaking your head in faux disappointment. “Are you running out of nicknames, Sammy?”

“I’m not gonna be creative for someone who can’t kick above their waistline.”

“How dare you!”

You lose that round, too, but Sam deems you motivated enough to call it a day. He throws his towel over his shoulder and heads to the showers while you lay your head down on the mat and close your eyes for a moment. Waiting.

Yester-today, you didn’t hear Bucky come in, either. He was just sitting next to the ring when you looked to your side, hair sticking to his forehead and shirt clinging to his muscles, still a little damp after his shower. Then, you felt a slight rush of embarrassment at how much of a sweaty mess you were.

Now, you couldn’t care less.

“You look like shit.”

You turn your head and there he is. Living, breathing proof that you actually did do it. And for the first time in a long while, you feel nothing but gratitude for your powers.

Oh, fuck you, Barnes. If you’re sticking to the rules you’ve set for yourself long ago, that’s what you’re supposed to say, because that’s what you said the first time. Change as little as possible.

But even if you hadn’t broken them earlier, you couldn’t do it now. Not when you’re feeling this happy to see Bucky alive again. Alive and well, and slightly grumpy as ever.

So what falls out of your mouth instead is, “You’re looking good.”

Bucky squints at you and you smile at the way his cheeks are still slightly pink from his morning run, proof of his heart still beating. “Did Sam hit you in the head?”

You laugh. “Why, can’t I say that you look good and mean it?”

Bucky tilts his head slightly, but then shakes it. “Nah. You’re messin’ with me.”

“No, I’m not,” you tell him earnestly, sitting up to look at him properly. At his chest, solid and whole and moving calmly. “I’m just … glad you’re okay.”

“Why wouldn’t I be?” he frowns.

“I don’t know,” you say, tugging at your sweatband. “It’s been a weird couple of days.”

“Yeah.” He looks at you for another beat, then he shakes his head again and gets up. “Take the towel on the right, I already used the other one.”

“Thanks, Bucky.” You smile at him again, but he averts his eyes.

“I probably only have one reset left,” you say, trying to ignore the chill that goes down your spine. “Two, if we’re lucky and you two aren’t being stupid again.”

“I prefer heroic. You alright?”

And for a moment, you hesitate. Because even though the rest of the day has passed pretty much exactly the same as it did the first time up until this point, you’ve felt the doubts creeping in ever since you laid down for a nap in the early afternoon, tossing and turning for the better part of an hour, only to find your rings hadn’t regained even the slightest speck of green.

You’re terrified of the moment you’re going to have to use your powers, because what if with this large jump, you overdid it? What if this time, there won’t be any redos?

No. You’re made of stronger stuff than your doubts, you know that. Things are going to be okay.

You nod with newfound determination. “‘Course I am. It’s gonna be fine.” You flex your fingers to reassure yourself. “Just try not to get killed.”

It’s a plea more than anything else, but of course Bucky doesn’t respond, not to you. Not to it.

“Can’t say that, bud,” he says instead. “Twenty seconds.”

But who’s counting? You close your eyes and hold your breath, balling your hands into fists so tightly it hurts.

“I don’t wanna complain,” Sam says as the dust settles. “But I did expect this to be more difficult.”

“Don’t jinx it, Sam,” you say wrily.

“You’re such a pessimist.” He still raises his shield a bit higher. “Any more comin’, Bucky?”

“Doesn’t look like it.” Your heart twinges slightly, but you bite your lip. Your job is to make sure the mission gets done and everyone stays alive. Both of those things, not just one. “I’m right behind you.”

The lab looks exactly the same as it did the first time, small and crammed and somehow even gloomier today, though that’s probably just your imagination. Now that you know to look for it, you can tell the file cabinet on the far side of the wall doesn’t quite touch the floor, something that Bucky must’ve picked up on immediately.

You feign interest in the papers on the table again, shuffling them to keep your hands occupied. “You’re hovering again, Barnes.”

“You sure you’re alright?”

You turn, surprised at the question, to find Bucky’s gaze lingering on your hands. Not for the first time, you silently curse his perceptiveness. “Yeah,” you say, crossing your arms.

His jaw sets, but he doesn’t comment on your dismissiveness. He just moves to open the cabinet. You don’t find it in you to say anything, and so he doesn’t look quite as happy with himself. It doesn’t give you any pleasure.

When the downstairs lab fills with white jackets, your stomach is still threatening to drop, but you grit your teeth. This is exactly the kind of situation you’ve trained for; the most important thing now is remembering the order of things. Like a dance recital.

Duck to the side. Bucky steps right. Wait for Sam’s move. Shoot. You take another step back before the white jacket can drag you away by the throat again and kick them in the stomach until they stay on the ground, which is a way kinder fate than yesterday’d brought them. You shudder slightly as you turn to look at the hole in the ceiling. Three. Two. One.

The second explosion goes off at the same time as someone shouts your name, and you whip your head around only to be roughly shoved to the side and fall the ground. A large piece of ceiling lands right where you’d just been standing. Which is obviously a different place than yesterday because you knocked that white jacket unconscious. Wow, you’re an idiot.

Bucky seems to agree. “Whatever’s happening right now, you gotta snap out of it.” There’s something about the look on his face that makes your blood boil.

“What’s happening is that I’m trying to fix this,” you say sharply.

“By getting yourself killed?!”

“We need to get moving,” Sam’s voice says on the intercom before you have time to reply. “If you take care of the drive and these idiots, I’ll clear the tunnels for a way out of here!”

Bucky stares at you for another second as if he’s trying to decide on the thing that’s most wrong with you right now. You shove him off you.

He rolls his eyes and gets back on his feet, holding up his arm for Sam to throw the shield his way. By the time you see the white jacket aiming their gun, they’re already pulling the trigger. You throw up your hands.

A surge of emptiness goes through you, unlike anything you’ve ever felt before. Time seems to still for just the blink of an eye as Bucky’s head is thrown forwards.

And then you wake up with a start to the sun in your face and FRIDAY blasting The All-American Rejects at full volume. The room seems to wobble in front of you as you scramble to your hands and knees in bed, trying to get a proper breath of air.

“FRIDAY.” You almost flinch at the panic in your own voice. “FRIDAY, what day is it?”

“Today is Friday, July 4th.”
