u guys wanna see more WIPs... similar to the last post, here are Some WIPs

all of these were started in sai before going on to procreate. before going back to sai again in the case of the strength card

so Blue Sky/Out Of Time... yeah it’s extremely self-explanatory, it’s very obvious what this scene depicts and i’m sure everyone gets it (this is a joke i’ve had multiple people dm me asking wtf this even is). the one element that absolutely NEEDED to be there was the LED digital clock with a bullshit time on it, and i decided to replace it with an AIRE warning sign instead and put the LED readouts in the bg. the warning sign in this setting serves the purpose of informing ppl when there are hostile faeries around. i knew what the colours would be from the beginning, but it took a bit for me to realise what sort of shading style i wanted (it took forever). but i did know i wanted to contrast the very sketchy black void against the cleaner and almost cartoony/comic book style rest of the drawing, to emphasise the fact that the foreground sky and background void are made of two very different things. again i used a colour shifting brush to quickly make all the shards of sky different colours, but originally i planned to have some of the shards be dark or night time (with stars or the moon etc). unfortunately it didn’t work, it was too dark and pascal got lost against it.

My Eyes Are Up Here is pretty obviously the exact same scene with the same character, in the same field, but with a different sort of atmosphere. i sketched this in sai then did the final in procreate. originally it was going to have a black background

i really like this version tbh but the blue works better. i think he looks good against dark backgrounds where it’s kind of hard to see wtf is even happening there

so about the neon signs..... i’m well aware that the sketch has way more promise than what the final ultimately was, and that’s because i found that i didn’t have the technical or artistic ability to pull off the complex neon signs like i wanted to. i couldn’t get it looking good enough so i had to scrap them. but these signs will be back, i want to draw them properly and do them justice. the gif was unplanned too but i thought it would be fun to have the flicker be very intermittent so that if you scrolled past it you might not even realise, or you’d have to stick with it just to catch it looping. i used GIMP to make the gif and change the frame rate, and this actually took a very long time because i had to preview it over and over. anyway if you WERE to get lost in the púca’s field, in this story, you would see neon signs like this encouraging you to follow them.

Strength is actually the last drawing i ever made that ended with a paint-over in sai, and the oldest drawing here. as such i actually don’t think it’s representative of my current ability but i do have a soft spot for it for sentimental reasons lol. the reason for the paint-over in sai was because i drew this at a time when i still did not trust procreate to be able to place the level of finish on it that i wanted

the background took me a thousand years to figure out. literally it was so annoying that i considered scrapping it for something simpler. but the idea was for it to be a kind of fairytale-ish lost in the woods sort of look while also appearing like the blood vessels around the human heart. the branches were also supposed to be heart-shaped in cross-section but i spent so long zoomed in painting them that i forgot to zoom out to see if all those fine details were actually visible, and it turned out they weren’t. i was disappointed that i couldn’t get félix’s tattoos to look right but that’s what i get for making a character with shit tons of both tattoos and body hair. i also got rid of the foreground branches really soon because they weren’t adding anything and muddied up the readability of his pose

the swan is from a daemon au and bears no relation to my other swan characters. i just like swans a lot

I was a little surprised we had a "previously on" part on this one. Were they trying to fill up time? XD

I do love, though, that they thought it very important for us to see this face (and getup) of Loid's again.

Anyway, onto the action! Damn McMahon scared me he was going to die, with how he lay there slumped like that.

Yor really got a second wind after her realization. Seconds ago she was barely able to lift her head up, and now she's up and fighting with multiple open wounds, and still getting the katana guy all bruised up and tired.

And I'm thinking, she believes Loid would forgive the blood on her hands and the fact that she may have to leave them, because he'd see how she's done it for the betterment of the world... and he actually would, because he's doing the same. We now need to see that she'll provide the same understanding and forgiveness when his secret comes out.

I find it a little funny that all this deathly action was taking place up above and everyone else, even Twilight, were none the wiser. Like we go from Yor and Katana Guy fighting to the death and then there's Anya jumping from excitement from the fireworks and Loid just being like "I'm glad you had fun".

And again, following what he thinks is her worries, he apologizes for not being able to find Yor. He's determined to comfort her and I find that so sweet. And then

Anya may be realizing she's too young to have the attention span needed for a professional spy. She's prioritizing fun without realizing it, and to the detriment of her plans, Loid is actually enabling that XD I love my weird family XD

Loid finds out about the bombs and though his spy training tells him to stay out of it and leave it to the SSS to handle the crisis, his knack for amassing responsibility rears its head.

He not only considers the worst possible scenario, he also takes it upon himself to avoid it, like he does with the cold war situation. Nothing of this is on him to blame, but he still thinks that "I can help avoid that" and he just runs straight into danger to do just that.

I wonder if he considers that a consequence of his enhanced abilities. If he believes that he's not above anyone else because he's smarter, faster, stronger, etc than the average human, but because he has all those innate skills and talents, he owes it to the world to use them for good. I don't know, maybe I'm taking it too far with this XD

Anyway. He will certainly be questioning how the very ship he happened to travel on just happened to have a ton of bombs on it to make it sink. That's another thing that will make total sense post-identity reveals when Yor tells him why she was really on that ship XD

Loid doesn't even get to start coming up with ideas for where to leave Anya, and Anya already very conveniently offers the probably best solution: a kids play room XD

Like, again, this show is comedy at its core, so even when there's action and tension going on, things will conveniently happen without making the most sense because it's how comedy works XD Endo knew what he was doing when he started it XD

But also, another thing that will make more sense to Loid after identity reveals. Because he wanted to focus on the bomb, Anya said she wanted to play and he was like "Please for the love of god not now" and she somehow went like "Imma go play on my own and have supervision so you go do your thing" and he should know this isn't common at all. He does say it's lucky but he has no idea XD

The anime added a bit more in this small section, as in the manga the daycare worker doesn't even get to speak to Anya, because she escapes immediately. In the anime Anya plays with a ball for a bit, then asks to draw, and as the woman starts picking up drawing supplies, Anya takes her chance and she's off!

I just love how he just dropped his voice a few pitches instead of putting on a fake voice. And just as I wrote a meta about how Twilight uses a different timbre of his voice when he speaks as Loid, huh XD

Again, we get a mention of "Western extremists". Loid mentioned at the start of the cruise that Princess Lorelei is "the pride and joy of Ostania", so it would make sense to take it down as a fuck-you to Ostania from a rival country. However, without relevant intel, Twilight also considers the possibility that it was simply rigged to spark the fire of war between the two countries, without swearing on it. That's some pretty good deduction without passionately taking sides.

I just think it's very interesting that despite being from Westalis, he never takes the side of its government. He's only on the side of peace and he'll protect both or either West and East interests if it means peace can remain.

It's amazing how Anya's involvement helped things! And how it was even set up!

I was just thinking, a little before I watched the episode, that indeed Yor was missing her weapons. The first dagger was left in the crow's nest where the sniper was, the second was broken by the guy with the mace, and the third slipped from her hand when katana guy first fought her. Which means all this time she's managed to bruise and tire out Katana Guy with her bare hands, while he had his katana on O_O

Ok listen.

First of all, consider the muscle strength a five-year-old would need to throw that dagger that far. And it's not a simple, light dagger, it's strong and massive enough to break through a wooden door and a human skull at once, it's gotta carry some weight. And Anya was able to throw it up an entire story above her and then some more.

But then, it's also the placement of where the dagger ended up - in front of the pipes so that the other guys wouldn't see it immediately upon turning the corner.

Like, they would see the pipes, and prepare to jump over them as they turned the corner, but it would be easy to not spot it and slip on it - and again, because of its position, the guy who slipped on it had the pipes on the right height to first hit his head on them before his back could land on the ground. If it was a little closer he would hit his legs or hips on the pipes, and his body would bend over backwards, and if it was further he would first land on his back and probably not hit his head and lose control of his weapon.

But as it was, he did hit his head, he did lose control of his weapon, and he did shoot the other assassin.

Okay, it was a little ridiculous that the dagger had so much velocity from being slipped on to jump around and land with its pointy end right on the ass-assin (sorry), but it's funny so I don't mind at all.

I love how Katana Guy had been fighting her bare arms and was still exhausted and bruised, and yet when she picked up the weapon she's proficient in he went like "Hmph! I will finish this" like my dude where do you find the confidence, she's been mauling you bare-handed and you think you'll handle her armed??

McMahon coming to at the very right moment to kick Sniff Jobs' ass and I breathe a sigh of relief. (Thanks to tare-anime for sharing the fandom's chosen nickname for that guy! It's funnier than calling him "Turtleneck Guy" XD)

Gotta love how she goes from "demonic assassin" to "sweet cinnamon roll too good for this world" in a single blink.

Katana Guy is down and I breathe another sigh of relief! That was intense!

Anya was so happy she helped her Mama! I still don't know if she grasps the actual gravity of the situation, she should normally be having nightmares about it XD

Twilight is more stressed of being surrounded by SSS agents than having to diffuse a bomb and I think that says a lot about him XD

And then Yor used too much power fighting all those assassins that she couldn't even wonder properly how her weapon ended up in the butt of a guy she wasn't even fighting. The family braincell was being thoroughly used by Twilight in that moment, it couldn't multi-task XD

I saw the blood on the ground from Sniff Jobs and immediately went like "O_O Where did that guy go!"

And then, even in the midst of a very important and dangerous situation, the SSS agent is being a dick and bossy. In the manga Twilight wonders it the SSS are trying to save face and that actually would make a ton of sense.

I like how in the manga, when Anya walks next to Sniff Jobs, his thoughts are shown in bubbles with a black background.

Dark thoughts, dark background. It's happened before.

Then he puts his nose at work and actually becomes the reason the ship is saved. He smells the explosives in the clock, Anya hears his thoughts, then casually transfers the info to someone who can take care of it.

I love how the security guy was so worried about how to find the bombs that he yelped when Anya said a simple "Excuse me" XD

The guy dismissed Anya's request at first, which got her to cry, and I wonder how real that crying was. She was, after all, facing the threat of a bombing attack. But it got the guy to check the clock in the end! And also because Anya is such a small kid that he wouldn't suspect something's up with her.

Sniff Jobs was right - the assassin profession is one built on trust, yet he didn't follow his own advice. The informant didn't trust the assassins and put bugs on them, they didn't trust him and planned to betray him, and because of that they all died. The informant planted the bombs, and the guy followed him to kill him, and one of those bombs ended up being the death of both of them.

That said, I kinda love how that story ended. I have a weakness for a felled villain trying to reach out in despair and anger, even while they're heavily wounded and in pain, and then just getting their comeuppance for good. There's some sort of humanity shown there, but that they use to such wrong lengths that you can't feel sorry for them. But it is interesting to me, in a way :D

I guess Informant Guy didn't expect an elite spy to be on board who'd want to stop his plans. Twilight wonders what purpose the bomb in the clock had and I'm a bit confused. The bombs in the lower decks were there to create holes to make the ship sink. Wouldn't the bomb in the clock cause commotion in the upper decks, making it harder for people to escape as much as it's possible?

If anything, Informant Guy was counting on the devices being retrievable so that the Ostanian government would blame the bombs on Westalis and start another war. It's creepy, too, how lightly he was taking the whole thing.

Knowing how it goes it's actually pretty funny to see Twilight just rip the clock off and go like "Imma throw this into the sea bye" and then just run for it.

Rip I guess, whatever that was.

THIS WAS SO SWEET AAAAAAHHHH

AND THEN THIS

And what Olka says to her too! It's practically the realization Yor had on her own about her job. That she gets her hands bloody and risks her life to provide a better world for her loved ones, but she doesn't see those hands as worthy of affection. And yet Olka shows her that, and an innocent child does as well!

This is what she coats her hands in blood for, and this is a moment of someone recognizing her for that, giving her physical affection and affirmation as a thanks for her sacrifice.

Yor reached that point on her own, but Olka and Gram giving them their affection reassured her of it. It's worth it. She is worth it.

Just let her work under a less abusive boss please I beg

Olka actually wishes for Yor and her family to find happiness. Yor was there simply to provide protection, but they both gave each other hope for the future. And that ties back to the main theme of the entire story. Hope. Humanity. Connection. We're not meant to fight. We're meant to love.

Excuse me while I ponder over this for the next three to five days and probably my entire life T_T

As others have mentioned, McMahon reminds Yor to not become sentimental, that they're merely foot soldiers on the trenches of the cold war, yet he gives her the last day off to relax with her family. And he actually says that is a reward for her doing her job well. The music even turns hopeful and sweet.

I just realized that it looks like Yor hasn't sleep at all during the trip? The first night she stayed vigilant while the others slept (though Olka was awake for some time, too), then she had a long fight with a bunch of assassins, and now McMahon told her to stay on alert until dawn breaks. So she's pulling two all-nighters with an extended fight in between where she got injured and hit her head. Is my girl okay???

And a bunch of steps back on the acceptance front stands Twilight.

He worries about having left Anya on her own, not because he might look suspicious, but because he's spent most of the trip focusing on her emotions and trying to help her have fun. And in the midst of that, he had to pass her off to a daycare to go be a responsible spy saving the world. The fact that Anya had the time of her life and was excited that he was saving the ship is irrelevant, since he doesn't know she was, and he only sees that as a failure of his as a pretend father.

And then catches himself, but even then! He can't even fully justify it to himself!

Boy is starting to slip majorly and he's starting to lose his footing on his denial. His "for the mission" excuse is starting to not suffice... and he's starting to see that.

That's a big step both Yor and Loid have made in their progress of accepting their place in the family, though Yor has a huge head start and Loid will probably still hang onto his denial as much as he can. I'm really curious to see how their dynamic will develop now that they'll meet on the island, and how it will continue once they return home!

As I said this was sweet af but it's also funny how there's so much inconsistency on Anya's size. Like! She legit looks like a baby here! I know Loid is supposed to be bigger than you'd expect but Anya isn't that small XD

The music that played in this scene was a soft variation of the theme playing when they board the ship, as well as during the fight in the previous episode after Yor secures the trio. It's very subtle cause it's mostly a piano playing the harmonies instead of the melody.

Yor put her earring back on! As in the manga, in the end of the fight with Katana Guy she's still missing the earring that she threw at Sniff Jobs and probably ripped her earlobe with. But when she met up with Olka and helped them off, she had put it back on. So she did an absolutely insane thing and put the earring back on even though her earlobe was wounded. This woman eats hot coals for breakfast.

And off we go! Three episodes left in the season and this anime only is trying to not lose her mind 🤪 it's been a wild ride and I've loved every second of it but I am really trying to not despair over the fact that it's three weeks left and then another year of waiting 🥲

I convinced our Delta Green game master to have a play-by-post (basically text roleplay) section in our game's server and uhhhhh maybe I've been having too much fun with it. Writing is faster than drawing comics, what can I say?

(Long ramble about writing stories below hehe oops)

While we're here! A bit about writing: I like writing! I've written for loger than I've drawn for (because school). I think I'm better at writing than drawing for that reason (I'm more confident at least). I've written short stories. I've written short stories about TTRPG things. I've also written a ~100k word novel by hand for 2 years. While writing it, I had 'writing class' (technically AS/A level Ennglish Language classes). It was the only class I had confidence in and high expectations for.

With those 2 combined, I burnt out pretty quick LOL. Specifically, I had a big perfectionism issue because of the high expectations I had from my teacher and especially myself -- it was the one thing I knew excelled at in school, so I better do it well! After I was done with the novel and A levels, I was supposed to edit the novel. It's been years and I haven't done it yet, and I wouldn't write non-assignment stories (except 2) until now. Writing became more nerverwracking than it was fun, so why would I?

To get back to the PBP thing: I've been in a campaign that was fully PBP. With my mindset being the way it is, hey! This is just one big writing exercise, so I ran along with that and had fun with it. I saw how some players would make their own PBP and essentially monologue/have a scene only with their PC. That was cool to see.

And now, my current Delta Green campaign (tagged 'Helvetia'). Hrothgar (guy in drawing) and his kids were ported over from a previous D&D campaign (the fully PBP one!), so the crew had a very well defined background already. Of course I get tons of drawing ideas for them, except I don't have the time to draw them all (compsci hard). But since the server has a PBP section, I had like 2 weeks to kill between session 0 and 1, and I was bursting with ideas... I made a lot of solo PBPs that were essentially short stories.

It didn't quite hit me until some time ago, but the PBPs actually made me enjoy writing again -- enjoy it a lot more, in fact! I think the format of Discord threads and messages removed most perfectionism tendencies I had. I just had to fire the story away, message by message. It didn't have to be amazing, and it was fun! (Also I really don't know how to shut up with them LOL)

I'll definitely be cleaning these PBPs up and posting them here as stories. Some of them are just silly, fun, slice-of-life character sketches. (These were the stories I wrote after my novel... and yes, they were about my other set of Delta Green characters LMAO) (and I've posted them here under pawsedswrite btw!) But some I see as legitamite short stories that I would edit more heavily and present as a short story. They were the kinds I could see myself writing on a document rather than on Discord.

Well, I lied. 'I would edit' is false. I have already edited one, because I spent like 5-6h writing this one PBP (oops) instead of writing the draft for my short story class/elective (oops 2). I joked to my two friends saying that I could just submit it as my assignment. Apparently, they both really liked it and said the dialogued slapped. So I did!

I procrastinated like hell on it though, because I was very nervous to go back into the PBP with an axe to edit it. Being in a writing class where nearly everyone else has been formally studying writing for some years kinda puts some pressure on ya!

Like the last assignment (which I'll post here after editing), I had a lot of worries. But the feedback and grade I got from my last assignment, the peer review I got from the current one, and also the support from those two friends (shoutout @katastrofish <3) made me feel more confident in myself. And also the fact that I had a lot of fun editing the PBP!

Twin Peaks Extended Media

Whether it is for the lack of knowledge in mainstream Twin Peaks spaces regarding them or how some of these things are hard to get, the extended media of Twin Peaks but especially the books are constantly overlooked and ignored for various reasons.

I had done an (incomplete) index of it that blew up in my original account, and I had redone it (but as a more extensive guide that also included the order to watch the show). However, I changed my mind and decided to redo it, since the third time's a charm, right?

Most of these things include spoilers of the three seasons and the movie, so watch and read at your own risk.

AUDIOBOOKS AND COOPER'S TWIN PEAKS TAPES

The audiobooks consist of Laura's diary, the last two books narrated by cast members of the show, while Cooper's tapes were done by Kyle MacLachlan around the time the show was created, and (believe it or not) earned him a Grammy nomination for it.

Possibly the most overlooked section in Twin Peaks media. Mostly because some fanboys wrongfully think that because David Lynch didn't write them, it doesn't add to the story and canon, which is a wrong thing to say since these books were written by people involved in the show. Especifically, the writers wrote them and were given notes by Frost and Lynch.

The Secret History and The Final Dossier contain spoilers for the three seasons, so read them at your own discretion.

(*) Laura's diary and Cooper's autobiography are the only texts available in Glastonberry Grove. My recommendation is to copy the text and paste it on a google document, since the PDF has the pages ordered in a way you can later print it and build the book on your own.

The Secret Diary of Laura Palmer (written by Jennifer Lynch)*: Laura's diary is written on the day of her 12th birthday, and ends on February the 23rd, 1989. The book (like Cooper's) is very graphic since Laura has to constantly face BOB in her dreams and in real life, and struggles with how others perceive her as well as harm herself in order to avoid BOB hurting the ones she loves. It does not include the missing pages of her diary.

Glastonberry Grove PDF + Text

Twin Peaks: Access Guide to The Town (by Gregg Almquist, Tricia Brock, Robert Engels, Lise Friedman and Harley Peyton with David Lynch, Mark Frost and Richard Saul Wurman): It's the hardest book to get from the books that were released in the nineties. The Access Guide is somewhat of a predecessor of The Secret History, since it includes some of the origins of Twin Peaks. However, the Access Guide also includes newspaper articles, a donuts recipe, and more fun stuff!

The Autobiography of Special Agent Dale Cooper: My Life, My Tapes (written by Scott Frost)*: Cooper's autobiography starts in 1967 and ends on February the 24th, 1989. It featured short interviews from Cooper's friends and other people connected to him and transcripts from his tapes. Like Laura's, Cooper experiences tons of horrifying and sad things, from sexual abuse to murder so reader discretion is advised.

Blue Velvet (dir. David Lynch, 1986): Some could say this is the predecessor of Twin Peaks, considering Jeffrey Beaumont (Kyle MacLachlan), Sandy Williams (Laura Dern) and Frank Booth (Dennis Hopper) are considered prototypes for Cooper, Diane and BOB by Dern, Lynch and MacLachlan. Set in a 50s ambiented town in North Carolina in 1984, Blue Velvet is about a 21 year old college dropout named Jeffrey Beaumont who finds an ear on his way home after visiting his hospitalized father. The movie includes three, very graphic scenes, so watch it at your own risk.

David Lynch, 2001): Originally going to be an Audrey Horne spin-off for TV, Mulholland Drive is considered to be one of the best films done in history and the best of David Lynch's filmography by many alongside Blue Velvet, Fire Walk With Me and Lost Highway. After Rita (Laura Harring) survives a car accident on Mulholland Drive but suffers mass amnesia, she meets a up-and-coming star Diane (Naomi Watts) who's deeply intrigued about Rita's past, and together, try to solve the mystery of her past.

Wrapped in Plastic Magazine: Released for the first time in October of 1992, Wrapped in Plastic Magazine is the most recognizable out of the Twin Peaks related magazines that exist since the start of the show. The issues include essays, theories and even interviews to the stars as well as issues dedicated to other shows and movies like The X-Files!

Music is also one of the most important things in the show (and also one of the best things), as it sets the mood and the personality of each character without having to say anything.

Buckle up: “Coming Up” music video insanity

This all began with this post on “Coming Up” by @thecoleopterawithana​ 

EDIT: This has been updated with new photos and extra info (w/in an hour of posting)

Read that post for a wonderful and in-depth song analysis that draws ties with the lyrics, but for me, I’m analyzing the music video alone. With a shit ton of screenshots.

I’m aware this video had a director and Paul isn’t T-Swift with the Easter eggs. This is reaching, a stupid opinion with lighthearted spin, this should be taken with a handful of salt. We’re just having fun here. Please don’t set me on fire.

The “Coming Up” music video was directed by Keith McMillain and features Paul McCartney dressed in ten roles and Linda McCartney playing two roles (herself singing as both a man and a woman). The video premiered in the UK on The Kenny Everett Video Show on 14 April 1980 and in the US on Saturday Night Live on 17 May 1980.

Paul’s Ten Characters

In the video edition of 2007′s “The McCartney Years” audio commentary, Paul named inspiration for some of the characters.

You mean Yoko? The shirt literally has Japanese on it. Paul also makes that face ^^ as that character the whole time. It’s definitely a Yoko thing. So while this is a pro-John situation, he’s still throwing shade.

The breakdown, conspiracy to conspiracy, or noteworthy moment to noteworthy moment: 

1. The Plastic Macs 

This is Paul’s self-admitted take on the Plastic Ono Band, which is too obvious to deny anyway. I believe Paul chose the satirical version of John Bonham to lighten it up so it would clearly be a joke. 

It could also be an overture of peace between the Macs and Onos, so to speak. Not sure John would see it that way. 

2. “Like a flower” “Your Mother Should Know” 

It kept nagging at me, “What is this reminding me of??” And it was this. 

Not just the flower, but the suit. It’s a long blazer and he’s wearing a standard collared shirt but it’s kind of like the late-70s, relaxed, “I recorded this in a Scotland barn in a weekend,” vibe. But still, there’s the stairs, the production, the drama, the camp of Paul McCartney. And he’s playing (almost) all of the parts. 

3. “You want a friend you can rely on. One that will never fade away.” (:58) 

(this one is so stupid) 

Paul is kind of known for being the smiley, bop-y, bouncy bug. Take this still of him singing “Yesterday” with the same energy as “She Loves You.”

:52 But for this specific line, in a verified bop-of-a-song, Paul puts an emphasis on “never fade away.” It felt significant. He also does this in the first verse on “never” but it’s not *quite* the same. Sorry you guys asked for this. 

4. “And if you’re searchin’ for an answer” (:57)

As soon as I heard this line, I knew it was a reference to the old Cavern Club days, the good ‘ol days together.

5. Beatle Paul is so happy

Ill-fitting jacket aside (I honestly can’t forgive it), out of all the characters, Paul is very, very happy as Beatle Paul. If he didn’t try to do it on purpose, he could have been just acting like he did during The Beatles’ times and he was happy then... so here’s happy here. Idk it’s an obvious one but it’s cute. 

6. “You want some peace and understanding.” (1:38)

I don’t need to explain this one, right? 

7. “You want some peace and understanding so everybody can be free.” (1:39)

In this bizarro world, Paul is saying, “John, you want peace, you want me to understand you and you want us all to be free (to be ourselves).” 

The immediate next shot is the first (and ONLY) shot of Paul’s hands close up on his bass or guitar, prominently showing his wedding ring. In this bizarro world, could this mean, “We can still be free, regardless of the rings?” ??? 

8. I mean I shouldn’t do our boy dirty like this but... (1:45)

It’s just the face. There’s nothing else here. 

9. “I feel it in my bones. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.” 

This one is stupid too. 

There’s something to the way he sings this and the way he performs it in the video, idk. I’m taking the stills but it’s good to go watch it. It always feels like he’s saying, “I feel it in my bones. We’re getting back together. It’s gonna happen.” 

10. “You want a better future, one that everyone can share.” (3:07)

Is this an open relationship thing???? Hey man, it’s all good. We can have a better future, we can all share. 

The camera cuts to Linda shortly after this and her face is crazy. In this bizarro world, she could be like, “hint, hint.” 

Yo is Linda good with an open relationship??? 

Well, let’s refer to genius @mclennonlgbt​ for that one. Linda might be more open than you’d think. 

11. Fuck a pig! That’s Paul! 

We all know “Coming Up” is the song that inspired John to get back into the studio, which is peak McLennon rivalry shit.

I just wanted an artist/photographer set between them bc I think it’s a cute idea !!

I’ve wanted a fine ryuseitai event for the longest time bc Yuzuru’s friendship with ryuseitai never leaves my mind,, in jingle bells he says he had fun hanging out with them and he enjoyed the hero show in supernova :D basically I only care about the most niche and silly interactions in this game. the opposite of how it was meant to be enjoyed but it’s the secret to being filled with joyful glee. ANYWAYS I thought a variety show for the starpro idols that has unlimited potential by means of the Tenshouin fund could be fun. Yuzuru obviously doesn’t like a ton of attention and is just there to support Tori and get it done with (I mean. Maybe there’s like some kind of fighting/laser tag round he gets really into but for the most part he still sees himself as the least deserving of attention in fine and doesn’t make any scenes). However, in the starpro trivia section of the show, Midori keeps answering question after question right about yuzuru/fine (bc I feel like he might know that little trivia) which either picks up attention with the fans who question what is going on (if the show is live) or eichi + wataru notice and like to impose mischievous little plans on yuzuru. I think that either way through the powers of being in charge of the direction of the show those two get midoyuzu paired up for a ton of the games (I considered making one of the cards a pictionary game and ended up deciding against it but I still think it’d be silly). When drawing the last unbloomed, I had in mind them getting matched up for a lie detector game where they get to ask each other questions/the audience gets to send in questions. I didn’t think too much about what happened afterwards to be completely honest with you but it’d probably get yuzuru really flustered being 1. The center of attention 2. Target of whatever Midori wants to ask and 3. Having to actually be completely and utterly honest. And he’s just begging him to ask normal easy questions which midori obliges bc he doesn’t like all this attention either but then some crazy audience question comes in and then the rest is up to imagination bc I don’t want to end up mischaracterizing them or looking more delusional than I already have in this public post! but it would definitely end with them revealing/admitting something to each other that brings them closer together :>>

Today was such a nice birthday. Like here at the end I am feeling a little emotional. But that is more because I'm very tired then anything else. Today was great.

I slept alright. The coughing is getting to me hardcore at night and it's making it really tough to function. Like I can't sleep all the way because every time I turn over I start choking again. But I keep trying to be alright.

I felt good when I woke up though. I woke up before my alarm and took my time getting up. No rush. Jess hadn't told me she left yet and she wasn't due here until 1030. So I just watched tiktoks and got texts from my family and it was good. I was happy. James came and made a big fuss about my birthday. I got lots of hugs and kisses today.

Once I was dressed, James made me an omelette. And we sat together in the living room. Waiting for Jess to be here.

And soon she was! I looked at her location and it said 50ft away!! What!!

So I went outside to meet her. And she was like omg happy birthday! Happy birthday house! Happy birthday at your house!! And we were all smiles.

I was very excited to give her the tour of our little house. We started with the most finished room:the bathroom. And went all over. She said it was a little smaller then she expected from the photos but real estate photos are always deceptive. Which is why I had done all those floor plan drawings. I have been very honest about how it's basically the same size as the apartment only stacked. Plus a basement. But it's going to work for us really well.

She said it was really cute though and she's excited to see it with furniture. And I was too. So pretty quickly we were all piling in the cars to go to IKEA.

I had a grand plan. I had done a lot of measuring and a lot of research and made sure I had backups in color ways if something was sold out. And for the most part my plan worked perfectly.

We got to IKEA and started with the return section just to double check. Nothing blew me away price wise so we headed to the showroom.

I teased Jess a ton and was smoochie with James. And was just feeling so happy. We looked at the pieces I wanted and I was happy with the quality and the sizes. Jess saw a few things she wanted too. And it was just a lot of fun. I also just love Ikea so today was such a perfect way to spend my birthday.

When we got to the marketplace we grabbed a cart. I stuck pretty well to my list. Only adding a dog shaped bathmat that I became obsessed with. He's literally perfect.

Jess would get a few things. A planter. A lamp. A little basket. She had a lot of self control in not buying every jar she picked up. I hugged all the stuffed animals and was having the best time.

When we got to the warehouse we grabbed a second cart. But in the end we would need three. While I had measured the house. I did not consider how many boxes all of our purchases would come in. We got 8 pieces of furniture and it came in about 20 boxes.

It was good I had made a list to know where locations were because we were going down to a lot of ends of aisles. But we worked tighter to load the very heavy things up. I had the regular carts and Jess and James each had a flat cart and they were full full. Struggling to load them was a surprise because of how many boxes there were.

Paying wasn't as hard as I worried it would be. I handled the small things and bagging those up. And then when we got outside I saved two loading zones spaced next to each other while they went to get the cars.

This is where I had not planned for an issue. We couldnt fit all the boxes in the car. James was trying their hardest but it just was not happening. It was close! With Jess having a slightly longer interior, that helped a lot. But even with James really good spacial awareness, we could not get the last three boxes in. It took most of a half hour in a very blustery area, but we had to throw in the towel.

Thankfully Ikea has a place to hold the items so James would make a second trip. But for now we would go have our Ikea veggie dogs and weird Ikea sodas and my ears would be so cold that they were burning so James very gently cupped them so they wouldn't hurt so bad and I loved them so much in that moment. Jess said we were being disgusting. Yes. True.

I had ridden with Jess to IKEA but with the seat having to be moved up, it was safer for me to ride back with James. We had boxes in the middle of us but we drove carefully and even when a goose tried to kill itself in front of us and James had to swerve I was able to hold the boxes and nothing got broken or hurt. And pretty quickly we were home.

I would help bring some stuff inside. But mostly I was in charge of directing traffic. We would say hi to our neighbors when we were outside. I even got to meet the landlady for the house two doors down. Who was so excited to hear it was my birthday and then was shocked that I was 33. She thought I was a Hopkins student! It was nice that a stranger was excited for me.

It took a bit to get everything inside. And we even had a disaster when the bag of small stuff got dropped and one corner of each of the wall shelves were damaged. I'll just face those towards the wall. But James felt very bad about it. Not the end of the world.

James would stop to have a snack or the Ikea cookies they got themselves. And then headed back out to go to IKEA again.

And me and Jess would spend the next hour building one of the shelves for the mezzanine. I was hoping to get both done but getting one done before James got home was still impressive. James would put the doors on when they got back. But in the mean time we worked very well together building and I'm really happy with how it turned out. Jess says we have never built Ikea furniture together before but I think we did great. Very proud of us.

I was very happy when James got back. They brought the last three pieces in and jumped right into finishing the doors for the shelves. I would go to the studio to start opening the boxes for the day bed. It was important that we finished that today because Jess would be sleeping in it. I had opened the rolled mattresses as soon as we got home so they had the best chance of swelling back to normal thickness. And I think that worked really well.

Putting together this daybed was a very long process with a lot of steps. I'm really proud of us for how we divided the tasks. And even when things went slightly wrong, when I put something in the wrong place, or we used the wrong hardware, we were able to figure it out together. And we didn't fight at all. Only in jest. And I was so happy being with them. We were doing great.

At one point we decided we should make a reservation for dinner at the James Joyce Irish Pub for 7. That would give us a good stopping point. I had Jess set an alarm for 620 so we would have a good topping point to get cleaned up. But I was really hoping we would finish before we left.

There were some bumps in the road. We were making great progress and then at 6 realized like 20 screws were missing. And then after a few minutes of searching we had to look through all the steps to discover that we used them in place of some pins by accident and had to spend a little time taking that apart and redoing it. But through teamwork we were able to get it done. Then it was discovered that I had put the tracks for the drawers on wrong. So we had to move all of those. And so James had to stop their task because we only have one drill. But we would still finish on time. At 635. Amazing. Great job us.

It was so satisfying to see the trundle part of the bed come together and then it all was settled and the mattresses were in place and I was just so thrilled.

And then it was time to go to dinner.

James drove us to harbor east. Where parking is very tough. After circling the block a few times, James would drop us off and go find somewhere a few blocks away. We went to get our reservation so we weren't to late.

And I just had such a lovely dinner. The only issue was around 530 I had started wheezing and coughing hardcore again. And was still wheezing. The outside air helped but I was still struggling. Jess suggested after dinner we go to target and get me an over the counter inhaler. I said I would consider it. For now the focus was dinner.

We got Caeser salads. James got a cocktail. Jess got a bowl of lemons to share with me. James got a Ruben dip sandwich, I got a black truffle grilled cheese and a spicy chili oil tomato soup, Jess got shrimp and fries. And it was all fabulous. I told Jess stories about hobby tunneling. We are our food. We talked about how lovely everything was. It was a little loud but the music was really good. This was a beautiful birthday and a beautiful birthday dinner.

Honestly though it was to much food. I only had half of my sandwich because it was the size of two sandwiches. And we would have salad and fries to take home too.

After we got boxes we headed out. It was shockingly cold and my jacket doesn't help much in the wind. But we made it to the car in a few minutes and warmed up.

My breathing got bad again. So I agreed to the inhaler. We would go to target and get candy and the inhaler and milk and James got body wash too. And we had fun walking around. And while I was struggling breathing I was still really happy and having a really good time.

I was excited to go home though. I was getting really tired. I am so glad we finished making the bed for Jess.

We spent the next half hour getting Jess bedding and moving all the cardboard boxes we had opened to the basement. Well get that off to recycling soon but for now we need more path. Because our couch is supposed to be delivered tomorrow!! Amazing. Am thrilled. But we had to make space. So we worked on that and Jess got ready for bed. Made the daybed all cozy. It was good.

Soon though I started getting a little birthday sad. We decided we were all to full for cake tonight. So tomorrow me and James will celebrate with that. And James has a few little gifts for me. Jess had given me a balloon dog pendant made of pearls and balloon dogs earrings made of glass. James got me the Mathews pizza sweatshirt I wanted so much. And they got me a very cute birthday bear mug but it got broken in transit. They tried to glue it back together which was sweet but they said they will still order a new one.

But then they got me something I had such a visceral reaction to. Not in a good way. They got me doc martens. The American Western ones. The ones I loved so much. But I was like. Shocked. I do not like getting shoes as gifts. It's always been a thing. Buy someone shoes and they'll walk out of your life bad luck. I have always felt a little. Off about getting shoes. And I immediately opened the box and said you should return these. I took them out of the box. They are beautiful. But I was just. So upset. I didn't feel like I could accept them. And I'm trying to not be so irrational about it. James didn't do anything wrong. Why am I letting myself be taken so out of sorts? I will sit with this feelings. I will keep the boots. I will love the boots. Because they are absolutely beautiful. But man. I didn't expect to get that off kilter.

I would sit with my upset for a bit. Jess would go to bed. Eventually James would come sit with me and we talked. And I hate that I made them feel bad. Like they actually did something wrong. Because they didn't, they were so lovely, they got me everything I wanted and more. I love them so so deeply and I can't let myself feel like some superstition would take them away from me. I can't let myself be that crazy.

James went to sit in their office so I could write this. I am going to go find them. I took the inhaler and it helped a lot but it made my hands shake a lot too. Maybe that was part of what made me so emotional. I want to try on the boots.

I had such a beautiful birthday. With my favorite people. Eating my favorite foods. Just feeling so blissfully happy. And it's not even like it's over. Tomorrow me and Jess will keep building while James is at work. And we will wait for the couch. And when James come home we will have cake. I am really excited to be 33.

@patchun did it, so now I'm doing it. Apparently it's just a big grid of your favorites, if anyone else wants to play along. I tried to be more honest with myself about pre-evolutions, but we all know how that can go.

GEN 1 There were no Dark types, and only one Steel type, so that's a little lame. Otherwise, Gen 1 has a lot of "my favorite is a pre-evo." Eevee, yes Vulpix over Ninetales in this moment, and most critically, Kadabra over Alakazam. Kadabra is, at least at present, my favorite Gen 1 mon again. Just like when I was a lad. I loved Kadabra. One that I think might stand out is Nidoran-Male. There are plenty of Poison types, but truth be told? I always just thought Nidoran-Male was super cute. I love its big ears. It's not the same when it starts evolving.

GEN 2 I feel like none of this should be surprising, and I'm sleepy, so moving on.

GEN 3 Gen 3 has excellent Pokemon, I love them. Illumise is a bit of an odd pick, but I had a really fun AlphaSapphire run one time that ran Illumise and it did pretty well, endearing it to me. Otherwise...yeah, actually, Mega Mawile is preferred over Gardevoir at this time. I miss it so bad...

GEN 4 Despite my love of Gen 4, I feel like a large draw is its legends. A lot of these feel like filling in a box. That said, Mesprit. There are so many good legends, but I'm tired of pretending Mesprit isn't my favorite.

GEN 5 Lilligant Sweep. Honestly, looking back at how much I love so many Gen 5 designs, it's nuts to think that people hated on it. Also we're back to having pre-evos as favorites. Frillish is better than Jellicent, with the pink one being my favorite, while I also just like Dewott better than Samurott, and think it's the best starter form of the generation.

GEN 6 Okay, so at this point, I should mention: I decided to put something different in each box, to avoid just spamming certain favorites. That was ill advised when you get to gens 6-8, given how few new additions there really were. So much of this feels like picking something. That said, special shoutouts to Gourgeist, who is legitimately one of my favorites ever, but cannot compete with Lilligant.

GEN 7 UB Sweep. Also, I love Pikipek. I love Trumbeak. I don't really love Toucannon. I loved woodpeckers, and was really excited by having one, but then it evolves and it's like sure, this makes sense. Morelull was the worse outcome, but the short is Gen 7 really did not endear itself to me with the evolution decisions. It did, however, endear itself via Moon Bat and the Ultra Beasts. Nihilego being the easy favorite. Like, come on.

GEN 8 Man, thank god for Legends Arceus, am I right? If it's from legends, safe to assume it's actually my favorite. If it's from Galar, it's like a 50/50 I was just filling a spot. That said, I am here to pick fights right now. Thievul is cute, y'all are just mean, and I fucking love Indeedee. Great shit.

GEN 9 I happen to like Paldea quite a lot. That said, wow do Ice and Bug not have much going on. Ice is especially painful, but I actually do like Frigibax. I saw it first in the evolution line and was like oh hey, that's a pretty cool dragon thing, and it's Ice type that's crazy! And then I saw its pre-evo form and was like oh, that's not so good. And then I saw its final form and was like "well that's not too bad" until I saw it move. It's not great. But the rest I legitimately love. Arboliva, Ceruledge, Espathra, Glimmora, Bellibolt, and yes all of the Meowscarada line. They're really good.

MISCELLANEOUS Not a ton to mention in the special section, but I'll comment on a bit. Spearow line is great, they're just vilified because of the anime. But if you think about it, Pidgey spams Sand Attack and is a little punk-ass bitch with Whirlwind when it evolves, while Spearow is an honorable warrior. Chingling is probably my favorite baby? I briefly debated Smoochum solely for being not-Jynx, before decided I didn't really like that one either. Flareon is my favorite Eeveelution but couldn't win over Vulpix, so it just...never got to appear. I'm sorry, I just love the Vulpix line so much.

OVERALL I assume none of these final decisions are surprising, so instead, here's the official ranking of each within the favorites (just the 18 types):

Lilligant - Absolute favorite, I adore Lilligant.

Nihilego - Very, very close second, I love this space jellyfish that deletes your personality.

Gardevoir - I can't help myself, I just love Gardevoir. It's such a good design.

Mawile - While Mega Mawile won out over Gardevoir overall, I think that's as much sadness over losing it as actually preferring it. They're pretty evenly matched, but without the mega, I think Gardevoir pulls ahead.

Mesprit - Emotion gremlin, I love you Mesprit, it's so cute and I am instantly drawn to emotion things.

Kingdra - I actually really love Kingdra. I think it's the Johto thing, and the strong association with Clair, who is a favorite. It's also just a cool dragon, like look at that thing.

Glaceon - Eeveelutions suck so bad, and I'm so mad about it, but I love you Glaceon, you and Flareon are hot garbage but you're my favorites.

Iron Valiant - Iron Valiant is so goddamn cool, what a good Paradox Pokemon. I just...wish I had more time with it, you know? Maybe over time it'll climb up, but I think it's just too...locked to one of the very last things you can do to attach.

Mismagius - Super cool ghost witch. Love this thing.

Milotic - It's very pretty, and it's one of the few Water types I stronly respect. I'm sorry, I don't love Water types.

Indeedee - Look, Indeedee's my girl. It's such a cute little design, I love that it got Psychic Terrain on entry, I'm dying for Pokemon Masters to give Caitlin or Darach one of these things. It's so good.

Braixen - Fennekin is the best starter ever designed, and Braixen is therefore the best by virtue of being the best iteration within that evolutionary line. REALLY wish it were Psychic type.

Krookodile - It's just a really cool thing. I wind up using Krookodile like every time I play Gen 5, it's just such a cool thing.

Diancie - You should be higher, but Pokemon is terrible with how mythic Pokemon are distributed so I just don't have enough direct engagement with it.

Vespiquen - This is the coolest bug. And it's also one of the shittiest. Life's not fair, is it?

Meowscarada - I actually do really like Meowscarada. I think it's a cool concept, and for a humanoid creature like we feared, it actually didn't turn out as bad as I expected.

Ampharos - Electric is one of my least favorites types, but Ampharos line is just so cute. Look at this thing. That is a friend.

Noctowl - I just think it's the coolest regional bird, and deserves more respect.

Advice for someone who wants to pick up a new hobby and work on it consistently? Maybe even multiple hobbies?

Watch lots of youtube tutorials and follow lots of artists that are into the things you want to get into! (like here on Tumblr, Instagram, Twitter, YouTube) this helps with inspiration and gives you background knowledge on how things work for when you start up a hobby for yourself. Local libraries have random classes you can take so it's worth checking them out to see if they offer anything that you'd like to learn (mine does a lot of technology based stuff these days like 3D printing). Also if you have the cash, community colleges offer classes for cool things like pottery, glass blowing, sewing, watercolor, scrapbooking, and more. I checked my local community college's website and depending on the course, class fees were between $35 and $225 (the cheaper ones are one day classes and the more expensive ones are multiple day courses. also they're after hours on weekdays and on weekends)

If you can find them, join small communities for the hobbies you're interested in! so like smaller subreddits and discords (big ones suck and are mostly people showing off how much money they can spend tbh. but small ones generally have cool knowledgeable people who share progress photos, tutorials, and will help you with whatever questions you may have). Immersing yourself in a hobby environment helps with inspiration and the initiative to create!

Start nice organized bookmarks in your browser and bookmark everything that you find cool or helpful, be that tutorials, tools, materials, other artists' works, what have you. use subfolders so everything is easy to find later.

Keep a notebook on hand for your ideas. I use a cheap bullet journal because it makes it easy to create little sections on each page for multiple ideas. also get one of those multi colored pens to keep different ideas easy to differentiate from each other. This is helpful for before you start a hobby so you can plan out what you really want to do and what you need. once you start a hobby it helps you organize your plans, list materials, draw out patterns, etc.

Last thing is be reasonable with your money. always check second hand sales for equipment before buying new if you can risk it. I got a TON of knitting stuff from Goodwill once. I also got a knitting machine from eBay as part of an estate sale for half of what they normally sell for. shopgoodwill is also a good resource, as well as Facebook sales. Craigslist is still out there but god it's a pain to use. If you have a local community for a hobby become a part of it because (other than meeting cool people and having fun) you can get lucky and inherit old equipment from people for little cost or even free when they upgrade their setups.

If used isn't an option, be savvy with sales. Use camelcamelcamel to track Amazon's prices to make sure sales are *really* sales and not instances of sellers inflating prices and then discounting them back to the normal cost. As much as marketing emails suck, subscribe to emails for sites that sell things you need for your hobbies (ex. Joann Fabrics, Blick, Tandy Leather, Dharma Trading, and smaller independent supply stores).

Once you have a good idea and initiative, start small and within reason for your skill level. Don't expect to build a work room overnight or create masterpieces immediately. Build a mindset that perfection isn't real and every piece you create is another step forward in your journey as an artist. You will never stop learning and growing so there will never be a point when you are "done" and can rest on your laurels. Even abject failure in creating is experience you need so that you can fully understand the limits of yourself and your medium as well as how to work around those limits to continue creating. It can also give you a chance to stop and think critically about your methods in situations where you had a reasonable idea but went about it in a less than ideal way (<= I do this thing constantly lol, first ideas arent always the most efficient...)

Remember that creating is about fun and expressing yourself. If you arent having fun don't feel like you need to keep pushing yourself to work on something. abandoning unfun projects is 100% fine. Your energy is better spent working on things you can feel invested in anyway.

So um TLDR: immerse yourself in inspiration and community, do your research, stay organized, and have reasonable expectations for yourself. also have fun :)

wow this is such a hard question.. i just had a little skim through the 4 things i posted this year and there are too many contenders (none as short as a line or a passage) but im gonna say this from the false rings chapter 6 flashback. not as grounded in moment to moment sensations as the stuff i tend to like about my writing but i think it is a neat little summary of why the flashbacks are there in the fic

They had been at war for ten years. It felt like nothing—was nothing, a single dark blot on the most recent page of millennia still being written. Samot’s task, as he viewed it then, was to conquer finality itself… so he would not, and could not, believe in permanent damage. Whether it was Samol’s tired disapproval across his living room couch, or Samothes’ larynx splintering under his teeth on some forsaken battlefield—passing passion, passing cruelty. Or perhaps an adult Maelgwyn sitting in a war tent clutching that mask too tightly in his lap, with a patch of stubble on his upper lip as he spoke that almost made him look older than Samot; who in any case had never felt much like a father, though it would take him years more to give up on being one. Samot had spent too long too far removed from Nothing. Before he had teeth to draw blood or a tongue to apologise for it he had known, until time and a cavalcade of mortal loves had made him forget, how all things must end. Only natural that what tormented him most in the hours after Samothes’ death was not that it had happened, but that it could not be undone.  Why this time? Why, among all the endings they had inked into the fabric of history and folded away like keepsakes, did it have to be in a lonely forge by their child’s hand? If he had known. If he had paid more attention to the whispers among his mages or on the city’s canopied streets. If he had known that Tristero had abdicated his throne. If he had known, he would have done it himself and done it right.

I don't do a ton of rereading because it leads me down an editing rabbit hole sjdgdf but i have reread many bits of false rings quite a few times because i wanted to keep a degree of continuity and by the time i was on like c6 i had Fully forgotten what i wrote in 2021. sometimes it is good and im pleasantly surprised!!

god funnily enough i dont use song lyrics much at all. not a conscious choice but i think my aversion to it comes from the same place as my dislike of quotability used as a measure of writing quality. not a fan of pithy soundbites

but!! the most frequently occurring artists on my samsam playlist are serpentwithfeet, florence and the machine, and the cure (: i did once post and delete (bc it felt underdeveloped, but never fear the same idea got massively elaborated and turned into a flashback in false rings) a samsam fic with title 'i want the sky to fall in' from want by the cure, which is a samot song

hi, i'm curious what malevolent is? I originally followed you for tma, but whenever the interests of someone i follow drifts, I like learning about that too. (i actually found out about tma from an undertale blog XD) So if you would be willing to infodump about it, i think that would be cool, you know? (sorry if this is weird, and also I love your writing! i've reread Cult, little eye, and tma fairy au tons!)

! Malevolent is one of the lesser-known Rusty Quill podcasts. It draws pretty directly from various Lovecraft Mythos and adjacent works, particularly Robert Chambers' short story collection The King in Yellow.

It's about a private investigator named Arthur who comes to unable to see and with a voice in his head after reading a Spooky Book. Personally I think this is one of the podcast's most brilliant qualities, since the entity in Arthur's head (eventually dubbed John) has control of his eyes and Arthur has the rest of the body John has to describe what he sees so Arthur can navigate the world, giving plenty of opportunity for lyrical descriptions of surroundings you generally don't get to hear about in an audio drama. They start investigating the book and where John came from with the aim of getting John out of Arthur's body and giving Arthur control back, encountering all kinds of Lovecraftian nasties along the way and unraveling the cults and conspiracies that led to John being imprisoned in a book in the first place.

The most unique/interesting facets of the show are that the entire thing is written, produced, and voice acted by one guy, with the aid of considerable voice acting talents and a variety of vocal filters (I initially thought it was a limited cast and only caught that John and the King in Yellow were the same actor and Arthur and Kayne (cosmic entity who's here to cause chaos, everyone's problematic fave 💗) were the same with different filters), and the patreon. For patrons (yes, I was sucked into rearranging my entertainment budget and signing up as soon as I finished the publicly available episodes, lucky me I had some other patreon subscriptions I'd been thinking of cancelling) segments of the show are published roughly once a week. On a monthly-ish basis the shorter patreon segments are edited into the hour or so long public episodes. I think at 3 or 5 bucks a month you get access to the sections and at $10 a month you get to VOTE.

It's extremely fun, because in-universe Arthur is The Most Reckless Man. Constantly poking his nose in places it shouldn't be and getting chased by monsters because of it. He is a private investigator, after all! IRL, patrons get to vote on things like "there's a fork in the path with bloody footprints going from the right branch leading down the left, do you want to go left or right?" and "let this injured animal die slowly or put it out of its misery [both options are tremendously angsty]" and "release the prisoner and hope they don't attack you or go on your way, leaving them to a likely-terrible fate", with occasional open-ended questions like "why is Arthur the most special boy" where the best answer was rewritten into the show as dialogue in response to a character asking that question. This has led to stuff like a series of patron choices leading John to be less overtly sinister and more Arthur's New Bestie.

If you like TMA and my cult au I HIGHLY recommend it, because it's prime "the horrors beyond my comprehension are kissing me with tongue" content. In any flavor of horror beyond your comprehension you like, from trying to ruin your life because you're like a petty insect, to discovering that humanity is Pretty Neat, to causing problems of purpose for humans and cosmic horrors alike because if you have unfathomable power you should get to make your own fun.

So I have had my piano now for a couple of weeks. Watched a ton of YouTube videos, I have a request in for several theory books at the library, and I have been messing around on FlowKey.

Yeah I know zero chill.

But you see what happens is I start and then I notice something like - it’s hard coordinating my hands - and then I go down a rabbit hole of watching lots of videos for tips about that. That leads to other videos like “biggest mistakes self-taught piano players make” or “things I wish I had focused on more when starting to learn” etc. which then leads to more rabbit holes about music theory (as apparently just attempting to play what is there without understanding it is bad) and then yeah I am here.

Anyway while I was sleeping last night I was dreaming and the whole “key of the song” and “scales” thing clicked. I think I also get how the chords connect but not sure. Seriously most useful dream I have had in a while, usually it’s screaming nightmares so yay.

But it’s a bit like art. I have a lot of general knowledge floating around my head. I can look at sheet music and read it (the more complex, the slower I am but I can do it). However, that doesn’t translate to my hands doing what I want them to do.

My setup is bad at the moment and is killing my back. The piano is much too high on the Lego table so it’s easier to stand (as if I sit I am below it) but I don’t think standing is sustainable long term. I ordered a piano stand this morning and so hopefully I can move forward with proper posture/practice.

When it comes to practice though I am not too sure what I should focus on. Keyboard familiarity obviously so scales, chords; Rhythm so practicing with a metronome etc. But when it comes to songs… I’m having a bit of a logic question.

Maybe it’s because every song feels like the same approach but if it’s just a matter of practicing the key combinations, working out the fingering, and then getting smoother until I have the right rhythm - what does it matter if I practice a song marked “beginner” or “advanced”? Yeah the advanced has more notes, more movement, requires more coordination etc. But it requires practice either way. Break it down into sections, do a couple of measures at a time, do hands separately and then try hands together etc.

I don’t know I am just having a “well why can’t I try it?” type reaction. Not going to lie it’s fun to hear my own hands make notes I can recognise. Is it smooth or in proper timing? Hell no. But I have been playing only a couple of weeks and with no stand and also being afraid of making too much noise (I have an order in for headphones too) I would say my practice has thus far been hindered.

I do have a very bad habit of trying to run before I can walk. I am like this with art. I jump right into trying to draw full pieces rather than do practice studies, as it’s the full pieces that are the reason I want to draw. Same with the piano. I want to learn to play the songs I like. I don’t know if as an “adult learner” who isn’t going to bother with any tests or anything, I can get away with that, or if I am ultimately doing myself a disservice by skipping the practice of the beginner songs.

Anyway eventually I hope the lady at the music school who does piano will feel better, or they will hire a substitute, and I can have a lesson and ask these silly questions about learning effectively. I wish I could find an art teacher who could give me a course of study too. Trying to chart my own path does feel a lot like flailing most of the time.

The dream is the same as with everything I attempt (writing, art and now music). I just want to feel competent, like I am good enough.

i forget i had a phase where i had considered getting into ARPGs on deviantart ("art RPG" for those unaware, basically a system of drawing characters with light RP elements, usually earning you a in-universe/game currency to do more/get more of a character/breed/etc)

i was in the depths of wcrp, and i wasnt super into the idea of juggling rping *and* drawing-- that was one thing that made me step back from one i was in. some of these groups were not really... rp groups, they were art groups first. the narrative focused rps i did with wcrp were about writing and forming a large world and story- with no currency or anything to progress. nothing but participating in rp was recquired. most of the arpgs do have lore and all that but the ones i saw were more about making art to get more ocs and other kinds of upgrades etc. because art could earn stuff, and so could rp posts. rp posts earning something kind of made it feel more like homework to me in the end.

regardless while i stepped away from looking at arpgs like that, there was another section of arpgs which was far more about original species or the even less rp focused ones-- things like horse breeding, dog breeding etc with focus on genes, show potential etc. some of these groups still encourage storytelling or others do it on their own, but they arent often "rp" groups in the same way as wcrp or even the other arpg groups not focused on breeding. people also would collect these animals into their own kennels or stables, giving them proper show names etc and becing known for their animals by that name. some even being more sought out with their history.

the thing is, i had a weird introduction to these breeding focused groups. i was aware of it with some fantasy original species, but when i was....looking for mods for dogs in sims 3 i opened up a door i never expected to dive into lol. i was looking for mods for better customization of dog sims. well, i found a shit ton from players of sims 3 who had made their own kennel websites showing off their show dogs, what dogs were available for breeding/their pups, their family history, etc etc..... in turn these sites ofte had resources for the markings/cc/etc used to make these dogs look good, along with more sliders for changing their shape. (sadly this kind of scene did not seem to exist for cats. they also definitely existed for horses too, if not more.)

uh anyways how did this lead me to arpgs??? well it happened when some of the links i followed started heading to deviantart again, and i found that some people in the dog show arpgs would unitize sims 3 renders of their dogs. drawing over them, etc! the dogs and horse people did this and i thought, you know maybe itd be cool to get into it i used sims 3 for that stuff.

anyways. i never got into it, at the time i was far too busy. but every so often i see art from the people i followed for it, and i just love seeing it. i love seeing how deep these people have gone into their original breed's information and all that. i did lightly make my own dog breed in sims 3 as a test but, never got far into it....

oh uh, other fun fact about sims 3 renders? in 2019 before all of this, i was in the sso community on instagram and was gonna try rping on their, and quite a lot of people actually used sim 3 for their horse photos instead of sso, in order to have more accurate interpretations of their horses.

i guess this is my post or random niche community facts.

Apparently October is the month to just torture any character with angst, tragedy, and hurt with a bare chance of comfort, aka Whumptober. Here's my take with the first Link I officially played as out of all the games: Spirit Tracks or Spirit.

Yeah. Spirit Tracks was my first Legend of Zelda Game that I funnily won with tickets at the prize section of Dave N Busters way back. Despite my hatred for the Ocean Temple specifically that one part with the boulder, I had a lot of fun. Plus I love it when Zelda isn't the helpless princess whose ass needs to be saved and actively helps.

Back on the topic at hand, I thought why not mess with this train conductor in the worst way possible? Welp, thank Madness Combat for this. In short, our Hero of Spirits gets yeeted out of his world at the end of Spirit Tracks. (RIP Zelda who was already traumatized considering what happens after the final boss is defeated.)

Stuck in unfamiliar territory, his gear displaced except for the whip and tons of enemies around Spirit is forced to hide. Hiding spot he picks being the worst place ever: a Magnification Chamber. You know the Super Soldier schtick often seen in media?

This is one of the worst options since it's fueled by crystalized Madness. (Don't know if it's as bad as LoZ's Malice but it's still very bad.) Thanks to faulty wiring the machine activates with poor Spirit inside. The Magnification Chamber is also the type of machine where bringing foreign objects with ya inside is BAD.

Thus our hero ends up having the whip merged with him as he's forcibly mutated. Normal MAGs are very aggressive, quite violent and usually need a handler to hold them back. However Spirit's mind and personality is kept mostly in tact takes to the blessing from the Triforce of Courage that every incarnation bears. Everything else had been altered.

Now Spirit is supposed to be 12-13 years old at the beginning of Spirit Tracks. Thanks to the Magnification however, he looks at least 17 or older standing around 12 ft. Baby boy got big. I'll be drawing an adult version later. Did I forget he's STUCK like this?

This Link doesn't have the Master Sword but the Lokomo Sword. Spirit does get his equipment back and can use the Spirit Flute still but it won't be able to restore his true form. He may have the Song of Healing but it isn't the same like Time's.

There are some perks to being a MAG such as enhanced strength, ridiculous pain tolerance, enhanced durability and acquiring light manipulation. Spirit will return to his world although there'll be a lot of obstacles thrown in his way.

His tail 'Whip' is fully sapient and a snarky smartass. Spirit often bickers with Whip on a weekly basis. Spirit's jaw can unhinge freely which makes his lethal bites even more dangerous. Green crystals grow around his shoulders and on Whip that can absorb any ambient light in a way similar to photosynthesis.

His face cheeks aren't what they seem to be. Spirit has an cracked mouth similar to a jack-o'-lantern but they close in a way to mimic said facial features. Most of his clothing had been improvised using both his conductor clothes and hat.

Will he interact with the Chain and other characters? Oh yeah.
