Tumblr media
"I finally got you..." You stalked around Loki's body. He was pinned to the floor, hands above his head thanks to the help of a little hammer. "...right where I want you."
Loki, true to his nature, scoffed to cover up his true emotions. "Darling, if you wanted me at your mercy, all you had to do was ask."
You rolled your eyes, then got down on your knees next to the God. "I cannot wait to give you a taste of your own medicine. You'll begging for it to stop by the time I'm done with you."
"A God doesn't beg."
"You will," You whispered, swinging a leg over his hips to restrain him further. "Thor gave me the go ahead to keep you here as long as I'd like and I don't think anyone else will be coming to save you any time soon."
You poised your hands at Loki's ribs, watching in amazement as he sucked in a breath.
"A-Anything you do to me, I will rain down tenfold on you once I get out of this," He threatened you, strain apparent in his voice.
"Yeah, yeah, nothing I haven't been through before. Why do you think you're in this predicament?"
And with that, your fingers sprung into action, prodding into his ribcage with fervor. You had no plans to start easy. Loki jolted, letting a single laugh slip through his lips before he clamped them shut.
You adopted his signature smirk, sliding up to his upper ribs, just below his underarms. You pinched and kneaded and dug around to find the one spot that would make him-
"AHAH"
"Ooh, there it is," You teased as Loki's eyes squeezed shut and he broke into childish laughter. "I have to admit, Loki, I love the way you giggle."
"I-hi do nohohot giggle, yohou insuhufferable creheature!" Loki replied back, legs kicking out to distract from the ticklish feeling. You preyed upon his trigger rib near his shoulder blade for a bit longer before shooting down to spider your fingers across his belly. "DON'T!"
You retracted your hands out of instinct, your ears not quite believe the desperation you heard in Loki's tone of voice, but quickly settled them back onto his stomach. "Don't? But don't you remember all the times I said the same thing and you clearly didn't listen?"
Fluttering your fingers again, you giggled along with Loki's deep belly-laughter. It was lovely to finally watch him let go and you were sure you'd never seen anything more endearing.

put loki in front of me and i will tickle him no questions about it. he is so ticklish. thank you and goodnight

MY FIRST VISIT TO FLORIDA, January 1995, Palm Beach
Dad’s funeral, the whirlwind of seeing Rachel and Keelan for the first time in 12 years, absorbing the loss even as I felt no true grief for the man, only grief for a wound that would now never be healed, grief that my daughter lost a POTENTIAL actual grandfather—the last she had, staying in THAT HOUSE/MANSION IN PALM SPRINGS, Boz being shattered, Karina and Dorothy and Walter and their grief, the Ireland of it all being SO HEAVY, how warm and sunny it was even in late January, the High Catholicism funeral in the cathedral complete with incense and me (ME!) being asked to do a READING of some selected…scripture?—must’ve been, I can’t remember because honestly, it was all too much. Two days. Not enough yet too much all at once.
Yes I’m haunted but I’m feeling just fine
FLORIDA!!!
SECOND VISIT TO FLORIDA: April 1997, Orlando
With James, to Disney World and Universal Studios, Clay has a condo for us, surprise! Clay’s already there! I’ll pay for all the admission to everywhere if you just pay for your flight, DEAL!, being dependent on a cane, in constant pain while weight-bearing but my dr had not yet figured out what it was, seeing Rachel again under much better circumstances, light recreational drug use while partying with James and Clay and Rachel on whatever island that was, late at night, everybody drunk, we were drunk, Rachel and Clay hitting it off and dancing with a hundred other people VERY SUGGESTIVELY, and James’s subsequent meltdown over Clay wanting to be somehow sexual with A WOMAN and he’s a whore and on and on and then the next day sober acting like it never happened because nothing whatsoever happened between Rachel and Clay omg, going on all the rides before everybody else, no standing in line, because I was LITERALLY CANE DEPENDENT, the sensory overload, it was all 100% amazing and I was very sad to leave.
This was the first significant amount of time I got to hang with Rachel, and I fell in love. Sisters!
I have some regrets
I’ll bury them in
FLORIDA!!!
THIRD VISIT TO FLORIDA: November 1999, Palm Beach, Rachel’s wedding
Drunk, emotional, fabulous experience that felt like living through a hurricane. Of feelings! The Palm Beach Hotel, the spa at the PGA Gardens, the last day brunch on the beach when it was cloudy and drizzly and windy, the rehearsal dinner at that dope restaurant on Worth Avenue, the party at the Phippsberger’s with Inigo spraying tequila into my open mouth with a spray bottle and drunk driving golf carts around the estate, Boz in a cow suit (!!!), talking to Walter and getting some details about Dad’s childhood, feeling very Irish, very Butler heavy, Marie getting so hammered she fell down on the pavement (which, boy do I retroactively empathize with how bad that must’ve hurt), that chat with Jeannie about Dad omg, Miranda’s blossoming beauty that was definitely attractive to boys, the fun she had being a bridesmaid, her and Blanaid’s instant connection, that awful Patrick, getting high with Keelan at the reception in the tall hedges in front of Dad’s memorial tree, that friend of Dad’s who sat at our table and upon learning who I was, informed me that my father hadn’t been married prior to his marriage to Rachel’s mom, with such audacity and authority, my polite yet forceful recitation of the fact that I was, in fact, Jim’s oldest biological DAUGHTER and oh btw this girl next to me is his ONLY GRANDCHILD SO FAR, and him taking a moment to process, then saying ohhhhh, New York. Yeah, asshole, I thought. NEW YORK. After that he realized who we were, asked about Jay, and kissed our asses for hours. Hilarious. A fever dream. Joy and sorrow and gratitude and love all in one chaotic three-day weekend.
It’s one hell of a drug
FLORIDA!!!
FOURTH VISIT TO FLORIDA: March 2001, Daytona Bike Week
Wild veer between severely traumatic and utterly blissful. Met Lisa <3 Day. Loved her. Fran and Ron ditto. The other Ron, the one who gave us his cat before he retired. Waking and baking (except my husband.) Copious quantities of alcohol. Too much alcohol, as it turned out. The 10 pills, the hate in my heart for my husband, the ambulance, the ER, the coldness he displayed towards me for the rest of the trip despite knowing HE was the reason I kinda wanted to die and which he continued for a few days after we got home, as per usual. Passive-aggressive fuckery. One hell of a drug, charcoal is.
Tell me I’m despicable
Say it’s unforgivable
FLORIDA!!!
FIFTH VISIT TO FLORIDA: the very next month, April 2001
Orlando, West Palm, Palm Beach, Cocoa Beach, Julie and Sharon and Lisa Day (again!), in Cocoa Beach when the weather was so bad the wind was whipping the sand straight into our FACES, rendering sitting on the beach impossible (we joked it was free microdermabrasion to make us feel better that the one day we had all together was under such shitty weather), getting drunk instead and ordering takeout from Denny’s the next morning, hungover as fuck, Rachel and baby Liam, her husband basically ripping me off for $50 by taking my money to go get me weed, never to be heard from again), getting cafe con leches and Cuban sandwiches with Keelan, madness, escapism, all manner of substance abuse (just weed and alcohol, but some of the drinks and liquor store runs produced some increasingly complex cocktails), desperately delaying my return to real life, which was circling the drain back home, the dread was a physical thing I felt every single minute, but thankfully cell phones were limited, we didn’t have any, but still…and yet. Control was exerted and I submitted and went home strictly because I love my daughter.
So you pack your life away
Just to wait out the shitstorm back in Texas
FLORIDA!!!
And I’ve never been back. It all seems like a fever dream of colors and heightened emotions and hotel rooms and mansions and a hurricane with my name and me and my ghosts and laying to rest all the bodies that had been on my body and barricading myself in the bathroom with a bottle of wine, check, check, check.

Due to several sleeping errors, I forgor
My day was alright outside of my stomach waking me up after 3 hours of comfy sleep, and then me falling asleep for a little too long on the couch at work, which is why I don't think i'm gonna have a new kanji for today. I'll probably just practice some other vocabulary and keep hammering in the first half of my katakana
Like I'm always saying, I dont want to vent here but like, its part of my day ya know. And I'm not upset as I write this its just thoughts in my brain. Btw did you know that overexplaining yourself is an autistic trait? Anyway, I've been thinking about my brain and its problems because my partner has a new work friend who is also autistic, but her and I followed different paths. She seems to be on the Naruto Uzumaki grind of saying exactly what she means and is thinking at all times. The barrier between her and other people made her more forward and blunt, which is probably good. I however went the conflict avoidance route, where I got tired of trying to be understood so I've just spoken less and less over the years. I used to be very social but lately I'm going whole days saying almost nothing to anyone
Its largely because of the specific people I'm around every day, cuz my mom doesnt care about whatever the fuck I'm doing in Onimusha or Splatoon. I've learned what stuff people outside my fixations would be equipped to find interesting. My mom listens, but I dont want to waste her time or bug her while shes working with stuff that isn't relevant to her. And my brother is the most equipped to have conversations with but he's also on a different autism wavelength that seems to be becoming incompatible with mine. Like earlier today I said I was getting really tired of him and our friend being so fuckin negative about everything all the time and then like 2 minutes later he said I was a bitch for paying attention to what skills I have on in Monster Hunter. Something just ain't lining up in our conversations
BUT, thats all to say, my response to that comment wasnt to push the point further, instead I just stopped talking. Because I've learned that he in particular seems to have lost the ability to argue or discuss in good faith when it comes to specific topics. And because of that I sit there and filter everything I think about saying. I have a thought about something in the Splatoon DLC and before i say something I think "my brother doesnt like Splatoon anymore so at best he'll ignore me and at worst I'll get into an argument about whether or not skills are stupid"
So you the reader at this moment may be thinking "this sounds like a problem with you and the 3 people you talk to every day" and you'd be right. But this learned silence has got my ass unsure how to speak in general, so idk how to make new friends or how to interact with old ones. Its quite the pickle oh yes
Again this is literal hashtag thought posting, I'm not trying to complain but this is just stuff thats been on my mind since like January. And now this new friend that my partner has made me think damn I couldve just pivoted into an assertive style autist but I assumed a defensive posture. The human mind truly is fucked and full of terrors
But all that shit aside Dungeon Meshi is amazing, the whole crew is great. I am concerned that I'm getting incorrect localizations on their names cuz i'm reading it on manga dex. So I've just been calling the hobbit Chalk. I'm on chapter 15 now I think. Kensuke is my MVP right now I love that little guy
And finally the moment youve been waiting for yes its true I only have 4 weapons left to go in Side Order. I was spoiled on the name of Eights pallette weapon and it didnt tell me anything but it made me want to get it as soon as possible to see what the fuck it is
My partner also brought me a big sammich at work and it was good. I lob her

*gif isn’t mine*
Tumblr media
You twiddled with your fingers, looking out the cab window. You couldn’t sit still for the life of you. You were beyond nervous. You were going on a date for the first time in a few months. Not only that, but you were going on a date with Doctor Spencer Reid. The Doctor Spencer Reid. The doctor that you had always stared at during the holiday parties you had been invited to that Penelope set up. The doctor that you were too shy to say hi to, even though you were all talk.
You were surprised, to say the least, when Penelope said he had agreed to go on a date with you. Well, more like he basically timidly asked Penelope if you were single and when she said yes, he was jumping for joy and already planning your guys’s date. But you humbled yourself with the word ‘agree’.
You couldn’t understand why he would want to go on a date with you. It’s not that you thought low of yourself - you thought quite the opposite, actually. It’s just that you two had never had an actual conversation before. The most you’ve said to each other were ‘hi’ and ‘thank you’ when he held the door open for you once.
Nonetheless, you were very excited and ecstatic - again, to say the least - to go on this date.
“Alright, this is your stop,” the driver interrupted your thoughts.
You snapped your head to her, giving her a smile. “Thank you. Have a night night.” You said, opening the car door.
“You, too, honey,” she smiled. You gave her one last goodbye smile before shutting the car door.
You walked onto the sidewalk, standing still and staring at the museum in front of you. For your first date, Spencer had chosen it since he asked you out first. Technically Penelope had asked you, but you didn’t mind very much. You knew that he was a shy, reserved person. He had chosen the Quantico Art Museum as the location. Honestly, you were thankful he had chosen this place. You had never been there, but you always wanted to go. And now you were able to with Spencer. Plus, any date location/idea you would’ve had probably wouldn’t have been fun or interesting, anyways.
You made your way up the steps of the entrance, adjusting your purse and the straps your tank top. For you date, you had opted out for jeans and a shirt rather than a dress since you would be walking and standing the majority of the time. You had a silk, black tank top that was tucked into your jeans loosely. You wore two-inched shoes that you knew wouldn’t give you a hard time with all the standing, but still made you look dressed up. Your coat was light-weight and more like a cardigan, but it was insulated and had better pockets than a cardigan. You hoped Spencer would like your date attire.
You pulled out your phone, seeing if you had gotten any texts from Spencer to let you know that he was here. Luckily for you, he was. He had texted you that he was in the lobby with your tickets a few minutes ago. He had given you a description of his date attire, just in case you had trouble finding him. You knew that you wouldn’t have trouble with that, though. He would be the most handsome, best dressed man in the room.
As you went to approach the door, your hands starting to get clammy. You wiped them on your coat several times before opening the door. You stepped into the museum, smiling at the few people that were exiting. Your eyes darted around the lobby as you went through the second set of doors. As you stepped inside, your eyes landing on Spencer immediately.
And man, was he gorgeous.
His hair was fluffy and curly around his face. He had a little bit of scruff on his face, but it shadowed his jawline well. He was wearing a plan white button-up with black slacks and a grey tie. He had his signature watch on his right wrist, and big, excited smile on face to tie his whole appearance together. You were right, he definitely was the most handsome man in the room.
Spencer’s gaze fell on you just a few moments after you found him. And let me tell you, he was stunned. No words could describe your beauty and how you made him feel. Before he saw you, he was on edge and doubts were running through his mind. But once he saw you, he relaxed immediately. His heart was still racing a mile a minute, for sure, but he felt relieved that you came and so very lucky, too.
You smiled at you noticed his stare, biting your cheek from smiling too hard. You began to walk up to him, the muffled sound of your heels on the floor echoing with each step. As you got closer, your heart hammered in your chest. You couldn’t believe this was actually happening.
You stopped in front of him, deciding to break the silence.
“Hi.” You spoke. A shy, but also excited smile lighting up your features.
His smile got impossibly bigger at the sight of yours. “Hey.”
You two stared at each other for a few moments, admiring each other’s appearances. Spencer was the one to break the silence with a compliment.
“You look beautiful… stunning.. um, amazing.”
The heat rose to your neck and your gaze on him faltered. You began to find the floor a lot more interesting. “Thank you. You look handsome. Like um, really handsome.”
“Thank you,” he smiled. “Are you uh, ready?”
You looked back up and nodded in reply.
“Great. Uh, let’s check in. Have you ever been here before?” He asked, getting out the tickets from his pocket.
“No, but I’ve always wanted to go,” you answered.
“This place is so cool. It's one of my favourite museums, besides the science museum,” he chuckled.
You smiled at his little laugh. “Well, I’m glad I got to go here with you.”
The tips of his ears turned pink and he looked down shyly. You two walked up to the front desk. Spencer handed the man your tickets. The man scanned them, handing the tickets and two red-coloured paper bracelets.
“Put these on so our staff know you’ve been checked in. Do you two need a map of the museum?” The man asked.
Spencer looked to you for the answer. You glanced at him, then back at the man.
“No, thank you. He’s been here a bunch of times, he can be the tour guide,” you answered, nudging Spencer slightly.
The man and Spencer smiled at your reply.
“Alright, sounds good. You two enjoy your visit,” the man said.
You and Spencer said your ‘thank you’s’, walking away from the desk. You two stopped next to a pillar, putting on your bracelets.
“Thank you for buying my ticket, by the way,” you said.
“No problem. I uh, I heard that if a guy asks the girl on the first date, then he should pay,” he explained sheepishly.
You grinned, “Ah. Well, very true.”
He smiled back at you for a few moments, admiring your features once more. You two began walking again, going to the first exhibit that housed contemporary paintings. You admired a painting of what looked like to be a crowd of people dancing when Spencer spoke.
“This artist died when he was only 37.”
Your brows raised and you looked to him. “What happened?”
“Car accident,” he explained. “Wow,” you frowned. “How unfortunate.” “Yeah. He painted this when he was only 16.”
“Talented guy,” you remarked, looking back at the painting.
Spencer nodded in agreement, looking back at the painting, but sneaking glances at you every other second.
You two moved on to different sections, making conversation to get to know each other. Spencer listened to you as you talked about your childhood. As he listened, he tried to keep his staring to a normal amount, but he couldn’t. Something about you was so addicting to look at. He didn’t know if it was the way you talked with your hands, the way your lips would spread into a smile when describing a happy memory, the way your eyes would light up, too. You were just so enticing.
You noticed his stares and tried to fight off the butterflies that were swarming in your stomach. No guy had ever paid this much attention to you before. Especially not a guy like Spencer. There were times where his stare was just burning into your side, and it caused you to stutter on your words a little.
“S-So, um,” you spoke, trying to gather your train of thought.
Spencer just kept staring, honestly completely oblivious to how he was making you feel.
“So um, that’s me,” you finished off with a chuckle. Spencer smiled, “Very interesting stuff.”
“No,” you shook your head, lowering your head. “No, I’m serious. I mean, i’ve never heard of someone breaking that many bones in such a short span of time,” he teased.
You let out a hearty laugh, nodding your head and looking back up. “Yeah, well, I was a routy kid.”
Spencer smiled at your response, turning his head back to the paintings. You let out a little breath of relief. It’s not that you didn't like him staring at you. No, you loved it, actually. It was just so unexpected and you at times you wondered if there was something on your face. You pushed your doubts away, knowing that if that was true, surely Spencer would have said something.
You decided to make a little move of your own, though. You two went up to the second floor, stepping in the elevator. You two were the only ones in there and after Spencer pressed the number two button, you moved your hand so it touched his.
Spencer froze once he felt your hand on his. You noticed his reaction, but didn’t pull away. Instead, you slipped your hand into his, intertwining your fingers together. You scooted closer to him so your shoulders were touching. You were looking down at the floor as Spencer was looked at you, surprise written all over his face. It hadn’t expected to be touched tonight. Especially not by you. He didn’t mind it, though, not at all.
He felt himself relax into into your touch, leaning against your arm slightly. A big smile spread across his face as you lifted your head, looking at him. You noticed his smile and mirrored it. You two didn’t say anything, the looks in your eyes already speaking the words for yourselves.
The elevator door opened and you two stepped out hand-in-hand. Content smiles rested on both of your faces as you went to the next exhibit. The rest of the night you two kept close like this. You were either holding hands or touching arms. You even rested your head on his shoulder once while admiring a painting of two lovers kissing and surrounded by nature.
It was at this moment where Spencer couldn’t keep his eyes off of you. Not like he could before, but he literally couldn’t. His eyes were glued to you. You looked so cute with your cheek against his shoulder, your eyes bright and wide as you looked over the painting. Your body was warm and made him feel safe and secure in the big museum, something he rarely felt in his daily life. Not to mention, you looked great next to him. You two fit perfectly together.
“Such a pretty piece of artwork,” you mumbled.
Spencer nodded, still looking down at you. “Yeah. It’s beautiful.”
You looked up at, surprised to see him staring at you. Your eyes widened once you realised that he wasn’t talking about the painting, but that he was talking about you. You hoped, at least. You decided to ask him to confirm your beliefs.
“W-What?” You squeaked.
Spencer smiled at you, looking deep into your eyes. “I said… You’re beautiful.”
Your knees buckled and you began to fall, but Spencer was quick too catch you. His hands went around your waist and your heart started racing impossibly faster. You also caught yourself on his shoulders, your hands gripping his shirt as he pulled you back on your feet. Your gaze fell on his lips and you licked your own, imagining how it would be to kiss him. Your eyes trailed back up to his eyes, your whole body now getting warm in embarrassment.
“Sorry. I can be pretty clumsy,” you chuckled.
“It’s alright. Me, too,” he gave you a soft smile.
You nodded, your eyes finding their way back to his lips. Spencer noticed and started to lean in. He had been wanting to kiss you all night and he found that now would be the prefect chance.
You noticed him leaning in and you did the same, meeting him halfway. You pressed your lips to him gently. You kissed him, quietly moaning at the feeling. Spencer’s hands gripped your waist and your hands made their way to the back of his neck, entangling your fingers in his curl, soft hair. Kissing him felt so damn good.
You were the first to pull away, opening your eyes and looking at his. A smile crept on your face as the realisation of what you had just done entered your mind.
“You’re a lot more forward than I thought,” you remarked.
“Sometimes people can surprise you,” he grinned. You chuckled in agreement with his comment. “Is that why you’ve been staring at me this whole time?”
“Y-You noticed that?” Spencer asked, suddenly growing shy.
“Well, it wasn’t very subtle,” you giggled.
Spencer smiled softly at your laugh. “Yeah, I have been staring at you the whole night.”
“Any reason?” You hummed, running your hands through his locks.
“Because…” his voice trailed off. He had a reason he just didn’t want it to seem corny. “Well, because you’re the real artwork here.”
You giggled at his answer, feeling your heart flutter
“What? Was that cheesy?” He asked.
“A little?” You nodded. “But cute, nonetheless. Thank you.”
“Well, it’s true,” he shrugged.
You smiled brightly and leaned up to place a sweet kiss to his lips. “Well, wanna keep on admiring me while I admire the paintings, and possibly you?”
Spencer laughed, nodding his head. “I’d love to.”

Okay, so in your “The Cullens never leave in NM AU” what happens to Edward and Bella after she’s turned? Does Bella leave the Cullens? Does Edward leave the family? Do they breakup and never talk again? Or does Bella just fold herself into the family act and her human days are never talked about?
Btw I am in love with all of this good meta about Twilight, I feel like no one looks too far into these relationships and characters
I believe anon is referring to this post.
To recap for everyone, Bella is very anticlimactically changed by Carlisle after not being privy to Victoria trying to murder her or the Volturi becoming involved and demanding her being turned.
With that, the sequel I never intended to write.
What Happens to Edward and Bella?
Edward's a complete and utter mess. Bella's been turned, this is the absolute worst thing to ever happen. Worse yet, she doesn't seem to realize the horror of what she's become. The thirst hardly bothers her, she thinks she looks amazing, and she keeps expecting him to tell her how wonderful this is.
Now he never has to worry about eating her or her scent (god he misses that smell), she's no longer delicate and in need of his constant protection, she's smarter, prettier, and no longer clumsy. What's not to love?
Everything, Edward thinks to himself, as he stares at a woman that to him resembles a gargoyle. And worse yet, he is in some way responsible as he could not protect her from this fate. He can hardly look at her (wonders if he shouldn't put her out of her misery) and the very sight of her pains him.
As you can imagine, things quickly go south.
Edward politely tries to fake that everything's fine, that nothing in his and Bella's relationship has changed except. This falls apart in a matter of days.
First, Edward decides to attend university. Oh, what, Bella can't attend because she might eat people? Oh, that's too bad, guess you're just going to have to hang out with Carlisle, Bella.
Bella's naturally very hurt. On the one hand, she doesn't want to be a burden and feels pathetic that she can't safely attend college with him (she's good but that would be quite the risk for her newborn control) but on the other hand some part of her asks if Edward really can't afford to wait a few years. There's time, they have eternity together, can he really not put off going to university for one year in order to stay by her side and help her through this transition?
Edward goes anyway.
At first, they call once a day but this starts... dwindling. Bella will call and Edward will answer hours later, then days later, then he stops answering at all. He starts sounding bored in their conversations, he doesn't want to talk about what Bella's been up to (trying not to eat people) and as for university, well, she wouldn't understand, she's only ever been to high school.
Bella, again, feels even more hurt and a nagging suspicion that Edward now finds her boring. She feels the relationship crumbling between her fingers and is starting to panic. This only worsens as she sees everyone in the Cullens having these perfect, stable, harmonious relationships where they're extremely devoted to each other (Bella's not getting the full picture there). She and Edward don't appear to be mates.
Bella becomes a complete and utter mess, she sees the writing on the wall, and expects the hammer to fall any day now. Likely Carlisle tries to do an intervention on Edward: talk to Bella. Well, Edward really doesn't want to do that and...
Maybe they should break up.
He was never any good for her, look what his mere presence in her life did to her, so maybe they should break up. How is he supposed to touch her when she looks so monstrous anyway?
How is he even supposed to look at her.
More, somewhere in the back of his mind, he recognizes that he no longer finds Bella so fascinating. Her phone calls are now clingy and obnoxious. She... bores him in a way he never thought she could.
Edward breaks up with her via a very callous phone call. Bella is emotionally devastated (though unsurprised in her heart of hearts). Edward then tells the family that after university is done he's going to take a vacation of sorts, he needs to think about things and sort through his feelings.
He has no intention of returning, at least, not while Bella is in the Cullen coven. She will now hang over his beloved family like a shadow, a reminder of the grave mistakes he always made, and the happiness he once knew.
He can't live in such a place.
He goes to Rio to be utterly miserable with himself. After months of this, he contemplates the Volturi plan he once had. Aro is to blame for this, true, and Edward loathes him for that... but isn't Bella in a sense dead? Doesn't Edward have no reason to live in this world anymore?
The world is dark, drab, and cold once again. Only now, after having known sweet human Bella, her fragrance, her grace, her perfection, and having destroyed her... Perhaps it's time.
Edward heads to Volterra to ask for assisted suicide. Alice has Carlisle beat him to the punch, and they have the world's weirdest, largest, row over how you can't kill yourself just because your girlfriend got turned into a vampire.
Edward is sent back to the Cullen coven, now utterly and openly miserable, and takes out his rage, guilt, and aggression on poor Bella. Because somehow, now, this is all her fault.
I imagine Bella is an emotionally devastated wreck for many years and likely offers to leave to live with the Denali. I imagine the Cullens put a stop to that as that's utterly ridiculous: she and Edward will just have to work this out.
Likely, down the road, this will lead to the collapse and splitting of the Cullen coven.

Heathen V (Ivar/Edlynn)
A/N: Hello! I might have gotten a bit carried away with this(?) Sorry😅 I hope it’s not too boring though🥺 I was just going to rewrite the ending and suddenly... I had 1000 more words💀 anyway, I hope you like it!♥️ In this chapter I talk about norse mythology and christianity, and even if I’ve read about it (norse mythology, at least) I’m by no means an expert, so I had to consult some friends and people I know that are professionals. In any case, I’m sorry if I wrote anything wrong, please tell and forgive me.
Btw, thank you so much for your messages! I’m feeling better now🥰 I watched some videos of Alex and Marco and I calmed down a bit! I suppose I just need to relax a bit, it’s okay, but seriously thank you for your messages and for always being so understanding with me💞🙏🏻
Warnings: talk about religion, mentions of violence, war and all that sh1t... Ivar is too perfect I’d like to marry him but, unfortunately, I can't
Words: don’t hate me but there’s 5492 words under this... I hope it’s worth it (?)

For Edlynn, it was both scary and hypnotizing to see Ivar learning how to read. He seemed to understand things quickly and even if they didn't really have any materials for him to practice writing, Edlynn saw him carving letters on wood more than once, like he did with the runes. In a few days, Ivar could understand some parts of the books, even if he still needed help, and Edlynn remembered bitterly how much time it took for her to learn basic words and how many times the priest that taught her and her siblings scolded her.
In return, Ivar agreed to tell her a bit more about his culture. He talked about the Gods, even showed some runes to her, she asked him to show her their longships, and was amazed by the carvings and the designs. Sometimes, she'd ask him to translate some words from English to Norse, and soon became obsessed with his language, trying to memorize everything she could for when she went back home. Mildrith would love it.
"Can we go back to reading?" Ivar sighed, raising an eyebrow when Edlynn asked him to translate a few words more. He had spent the entire day with Hvitserk and was on a good mood, but he was also tired.
"Yes, sorry" she blushed a bit, realizing her eagerness was probably improper "Just one more, please"
Ivar nodded slowly. He found her excitement adorable, and he had to hold back a smile more than once when she tried to repeat some words with a soft voice.
"How do you say sun and moon?" she tilted her head, curiously "It's true that they are Gods for you?"
Mildrith had told her once that the northman she had been with had told her that they worshipped the sun and the moon, as if they were Saints or Gods. And, for some reason, Edlynn became obsessed with it.
"Those are two words" Ivar smirked "But they are Sól and Máni, and they are Gods, yes, but slightly different from the Aesir and the Vanir" he shrugged "It's a long story"
Edlynn waited a few more seconds, maybe expecting for him to keep telling the story.
"So the moon is a Goddess?"
Ivar hummed, nodding.
"She's a woman, sister to Sól, the sun" he shrugged.
"That makes sense" Edlynn bit her lip, interested "But, how can you say they are a man and a woman? They're not humans" she smiled softly, amused "They can't be man and woman"
"But they are" Ivar frowned "It's like that story of yours about the Virgin, I've heard that one before, how can you tell she was a virgin?" he shrugged.
"Because God chose her to carry his son, the one who would bring His word to us"
"You christians are too obsessed with virginity" Ivar rolled his eyes. Edlynn felt her cheeks burn, and cleared her throat.
"It's a sin not to be a virgin when you get married"
"Yes, I've heard a lot about those sins" Ivar nodded "And I still think it's ridiculous, why would your God demand that you deny the pleasure of having sex to yourselves?"
"It's an act of purity, of faith" Edlynn narrowed her eyes. She knew the northmen were much less... Traditional, with these things, and sometimes she felt somehow curious. It wasn't a topic that was very discussed at the court, and much less at home with her father... Once, Edlynn and Mildrith saw a couple on the stables and asked Hilda about it. The nun was so angry at them that she made them pray for hours, and then made them promise they wouldn't go around talking about it.
"It's stupid" Ivar shrugged "You would be much happier if you forgot about that"
The girl pressed her lips together, a bit bothered. Ivar's smirk showed he was trying to get a reaction from her, but Edlynn wouldn't start arguing.
"I didn't expect a heathen to understand it" she shrugged.
Ivar chuckled, shaking his head.
"I've spent maybe too much time around christians to understand many things, but I still believe your God is weak" he licked his lips "Compared to Odin and Thor, he's weak and demanding"
She ignored him, looking back at the books and parchments they were studying. Finally, Ivar stood up, making Edlynn raise her head as he walked over to the bed, and sat down to take his braces off. She watched as his fingers worked quickly on them, freeing his legs. When Ivar started taking his clothes, she stiffened, blushing again, and stood up to tidy the books and avoid looking at him. If she had looked, she would have seen Ivar's amused smile.
"The day and the night are also man and a woman" he continued, startling Edlynn. She turned to look at him, curious, but turned around when she realized he was shirtless "What? Are you also not allowed to look at me?"
"It's not proper" she muttered, looking down. During the nights she had been sharing his tent, she always slept with her back turned to him, and usually she would already be asleep when he went to bed.
"Do you want to hear the rest of the story or not?"
Edlynn hesitated, but finally turned around. He was doing it to bother her, and wouldn't give him the satisfaction of knowing it was working. The sight left her breathless. Ivar was one of the most handsome men she had ever seen, but not only his face was beautiful; he was strong, she had already noticed it when he grabbed her for the first time. Edlynn tried her best to avoid staring at his beautiful hair, collected in braids and tied that fell down his back and shoulder.
"Dagr is the day, and he's the son of Nótt, the night, Odin gave each of them a chariot that they can ride on the sky... And two horses, Skinfaxi and Hrímfaxi" his own finger pointed at his chest, which was crossed by dark lines. Those strange drawings on his skin were normal among the northmen; she had seen those on their arms, necks, faces... It was weird but she had to bite her tongue more than once to avoid asking about them.
Ivar had also another one on his back. Edlynn couldn't see much, but from the few glimpses she had caught, it looked like a snake. The ones he showed now had an intricate pattern, and she frowned softly while looking at them.
"They don't look like horses"
That made Ivar chuckle, but he didn't say anything else as she approached him, her eyes still fixed on his chest. When she was close enough, she raised her hand slowly.
"Can I?"
Ivar tensed, but finally nodded softly. Edlynn didn't know what to expect when her fingers touched the dark ink, but was somewhat surprised by the feeling of his skin. It was warm and his muscles tensed under her touch when her finger roamed around his chest following the lines. It was hypnotizing, and she couldn't feel anything else that wasn't Ivar.
She found his necklace. It was always hidden under his clothes, so it caught her attention. The question was written all over her face when she looked at his eyes again.
"Mjölnir" he answered quietly "Thor's hammer"
Edlynn nodded. She had heard about that, and thought it would be something like the cross that hang from her own neck.
Finally, she moved her hand backwards, almost like she just realized what she was doing and was suddenly too shy to keep touching him. Ivar's eyes were still fixed on Edlynn as she turned around, getting away from him faster than he would have liked, and soon she was laying on her side of the bed, with her back turned to him and her body tense and stiff, not bothering to cover herself.
______________________________
Edlynn was amazed by the shieldmaidens. She had heard about them more than once, since she was a kid, and sometimes imagined herself with a sword when she watched her brother, Edward, train with their father. But when she said it once, during dinner, everyone turned to look at her with widened eyes. Both her father and her sister reprimanded her; the battlefield is no place for women, you're needed at home, praying and taking care of the children.
Since then, the thought hadn't crossed her mind again.
She also saw the two viking women training when they were staying with King Alfred. They moved gracefully, and easily defeated male warriors, it was entertaining and interesting to see, and Mildrith and her would always sit and watch her, but always under the stern gaze of their fathers. Once, the blonde woman she had often seen with Bishop Heahmund offered them to try. Edlynn remembered the soft smile and how she approached them. She was sure her face lightened up, but as soon as she opened her mouth, Lord Eldred was behind her, he gripped her shoulder with maybe too much force. His daughter wouldn't go near a sword, he had said sternly. And the viking woman sighed, shooting her a sad smile before leaving.
But in that camp, even with her wrists tied and three northmen around her, she was free to watch as much as she wanted.
There was a group of many women, training with her swords, axes and shields. They fought fiercely, but laughing and hugging each other, and Edlynn was amazed. She barely blinked and didn't know how much time she had been there watching them. The women didn't seem to care, and she felt more at ease around them than around the men.
But when she turned her head, startled by some other sounds coming from her right, something else caught her attention. The first thing she saw was Hvitserk dodging a dagger as he trained with another viking. She knew that dagger, and soon her eyes fixed on Ivar, who was leant on a tree and smirked softly. He had a horn on his hand, and his eyes shone as they only did when he was around his brother. Next to him, Edlynn saw some arrows and a wooden bow, an axe and another sword.
He hadn't seen her, and she stayed silent and still, watching. He was relaxed, laughing and had a playful smirk on his lips. In some way, he was even more handsome. Soon, he got tired of just watching and grabbed the bow and arrows, tensing it slowly. His gaze was fixed on the tree in front of him, and Edlynn couldn't help but stare at him as his whole body tensed. She remembered when her brother learnt archery, when his arms were always shaking. Ivar didn't move a single muscle until he shoot the arrow.
"Don't miss, brother, you have an audience" Hvitserk's voice startled both Ivar and Edlynn, and when his eyes finally landed on her, his expression changed. She wasn't able to point exactly what changed, but Ivar barely looked at her.
"See something you like, princess?"
Edlynn felt her cheeks burn, and pressed her lips together when she heard the guards and some other men chuckling behind her, refusing to let them see her. Ivar also smirked, leaning to grab another arrow.
"I was just watching" she muttered. Ivar looked amused when he turned his head to look at her.
"Want to try?" he pointed at the tree. Edlynn hesitated, knowing that grabbing a bow and shooting arrows wasn't proper. But then again... There was no one there to scold her, right? And probably, if King Alfred reached an agreement with them, she wouldn't have to see any of them again.
She nodded softly, feeling a strange rush of excitement like the ones she used to feel when she was little and did something that was strictly forbidden. Ivar nodded at the guards and they let her go after untying her wrists.
"I don't think you have done this before, am I right?"
Edlynn narrowed her eyes at him and snatched the bow from his hands, making him laugh. It was heavier than she ever thought, and nearly let it fall to the ground. But she could already imagine how much the men would laugh if she dropped the bow.
"Turn around" Ivar ordered, and Edlynn obeyed slowly, still hesitating and nervous because of all those pairs of eyes fixed on her, studying her every move. She wasn't a warrior, but a noble lady that lived  in a castle, so her movements were clumsy and not graceful at all.
She startled and nearly jumped when Ivar's hands touched her waist.
"What are you doing?" she whispered, widening her eyes.
"Don't you want to learn?" Ivar shrugged, an innocent tone on his voice that Edlynn didn't believe.
His strong hands moved her effortlessly, and she tried not to blush even more when she felt Ivar's body closer to hers. She could even feel his breathing behind her neck.
Ivar worked in silence, making sure she was on the right position before taking a new arrow. Edlynn frowned when she tensed the bow and her arms started shaking, even if Ivar was the one that practically held it behind her.
"Stop shaking" he scolded her, and Edlynn could hear some chuckles around her. Some of the shieldmaidens had stopped training and came to watch. The saxon girl making a fool of herself, how amusing.
Ivar's closeness, his scent and his body practically wrapped around her weren't helping. Edlynn felt her heart beating faster and faster as his fingers touched hers to position them around the arrow.
"Now" he muttered into her ear when he was finally satisfied "Loose"
Edlynn tried her best to point at the tree, but the arrow flew next to it and got lost into one of the bushes.
Everyone laughed. She could even hear Ivar chuckling next to her ear, and her cheeks reddened again. She glared at them and scoffed.
"It's fine, you'll get better if you practice" Ivar had a smile on his lips, but Edlynn couldn't say if he was mocking her or actually being nice.
One of the northmen said something loudly in their language, making everyone laugh even harder. Ivar sighed and shook his head, but had that small smirk on his face.
Narrowing her eyes, Edlynn reached for another arrow, making everyone stop laughing and look at her with an eyebrow raised. Ivar had an even bigger smile on his face when she turned to look at him.
"I want to try again"

Mildrith was furious. She couldn't understand why they kept discussing God knows what in that tent when Edlynn was held as a prisoner in the enemies' camp. It was true that she was more calmed now that the scout came back and assured she was well and unharmed. Mildrith always knew her friend would survive; Edlynn was strong and smart, but she also knew they could have hurt her in many ways. Especially Ivar the Boneless.
She almost shivered when she thought about him. Mildrith had always wanted to see Ivar at least once, to see if what they said was true, but to be captured by him? Her mind had replayed every single story she had heard about that heathen from the women of York.
Even that young viking she had had a quick affair with had talked about him; he was the most letal of the sons of Ragnar, a monster.
And King Alfred knew it! He had met him more than once, he had been fighting in York after the Great Heathen Army killed both his grandfathers. How he had allowed them to keep Edlynn for so long was a mystery to her.
Hilda kept praying, kneeled at the feet of what one day was Edlynn's bed with a cross between her hands. Mildrith didn't understand what praying would do, God didn't help her before and it seemed he wouldn't help her now. She was also angry at Him.
More than once, she had wished she could use a sword so she could enter the northmen's camp and free her.
"Mildrith" the nun sighed. She had dark circles under her eyes and her voice sounded weak. Hilda had barely slept or ate since Edlynn, the little girl she had raised almost as if she was her own, had been taken. She prayed day and night, hoping she would be well and no one would hurt her in any way "Please, stop pacing around the tent, sit here with me and let's pray"
"I don't want to pray" the young, raven-haired girl, clenched her fists, glaring at her "I want them to get out of that tent and go find Edlynn"
"They can't do that" Hilda sighed, her trembling hands rubbing her own face "The king is doing everything he can, Mildrith, and you know it, he appreciates Edlynn a lot, but they're asking for a high price, and he must think about the rest of the country too"
Mildrith scoffed. She hated it, she hated politics, war and negotiations. She couldn't understand it. They were in their own country! They were stronger! Why couldn't they just raise a bigger army to go and free her?
"We have do something"
"We can't" the nun shook her head "You know we can't, we can only have faith and hope she will be returned to us soon"
The young girl sighed, sitting down on the bed. She didn't want to have faith nor pray, she wanted her friend back. Her only comfort was to know that Edlynn would have many stories to tell, when she came back.

"They're asking for all of that, for a young woman?"
Alfred raised his head, narrowing his eyes at the man who just spoke.
"They're not asking anything, my lord, they demand all of this" he explained, slowly "And Edlynn isn't just a young woman, she is a dear friend, the daughter of one of my most trusted advisors and the sister to one of the men that I trust with my life every day"
"They want gold" Lord Eldred sighed. He was pale and had lost weight, Alfred hadn't seen him sleep nor eat for days "A lot of gold... And land, more land?" he sounded desperate.
"Yes, but separated from the land I gave to Björn and Ubbe Ragnarsson" the king rubbed his face "They also want a truce, some time to settle on our lands"
"That's the part that worries me" Lord Eldred shook his head "Why do they want time to settle? Do I have to choose between my daughter's death and a possible invasion?"
"We don't know if they plan an invasion, my lord" Alfred shrugged "For now, I am trying to save your daughter's life before anything else"
"She must be so scared" her father rubbed his eyes "All alone, surrounded by barbarians, God knows what they are doing to her"
"Our scout assured she was unharmed, Lord Eldred, I believe him" the king softened his tone "Ivar won't hurt her for as long as we don't anger him"
"I will pay as much as I can" Lord Edmund spoke for the first time since the reunion started "To ensure my lady's safe return"
Her father looked at her with a sad smile.
"Thank you, my lord" Alfred nodded "The messenger is out there, ready to leave for their camp to give them our reply"
"What do you say, my king?" Queen Elsewith put a hand on his shoulder. Alfred took her hand softly and sighed, looking down at the table. For days, he had been thinking about his decision, trying to find the best solution for all of them. If he agreed, there would be consequences, Ivar would know he had an advantage, many of his lords wouldn't agree with him. If he refused, Edlynn would suffer things worse than death before her head was sent to them, he was nearly sure of that.
Edlynn was a good girl. Responsible, obedient and polite. They had played together when they were children, and he couldn't stop thinking that it was Elsewith whom they wanted. Would they have so many doubts about saving her or not if it had been his queen?
He sighed.
"I say we agree" he nodded "And that we will meet them in the forest to give them what they want in exchange for Lady Edlynn"

Ivar's arms hurt. It had been a while since he practiced so much archery, and the muscles of his back and arms were already sore when he retired to the tent. His face also hurt from laughing so much, and he didn't remember when was the last time he had laughed so much, probably it was when he was still with Igor. He couldn't help but smile softly remembering the kid he had learnt to love as if he was his own son.
Before entering the tent, he could hear Edlynn whispering some words in English. He supposed she'd be reading, as she used to do since he let her read the books freely. He had to wait outside to force himself to stop smiling like an idiot before entering.
Edlynn raised her head and smiled softly when he entered the tent. In part, it was because of her he had had so much fun that day, he never guessed that teaching archery to a saxon girl could be that entertaining.
She was also tired. Her arms hurt and she only wanted to get into bed and sleep, but at the same time every time she closed her eyes, with her head leant on the soft pillows and inhaled Ivar's scent her mind went back to his hands around her waist, his breath on her neck and the soft whispers with which he had guided her. She even remembered the small smile she had seen on his face when she had finally managed to struck the tree and her cheeks would redden. Now, seeing him entering the tent leant onto his crutch with clouded eyes from drinking so much mead, laughing with his brother and even letting himself take a nap next to the fire, made her heart beat faster again.
"How are you, princess?" the playful tone made her nearly sigh in relief. He was still in a good mood.
"Tired" she muttered "But fine, it was... Interesting, to use a bow"
Ivar hummed softly, sitting down on the bed as Edlynn closed the huge book she had on the bed, leaning to leave it on the floor, next to the bed, she kneeled behind him and watching him as he fiddled with the braces. She bit her lip, not knowing what to say but wanting to keep talking to him.
"The men were quite impressed with you" he said, not looking at her "A shame we don't have time, I'm sure we could turn you into a fine shieldmaiden"
Edlynn tried to hide her excited smile.
"Really?"
This time Ivar turned around a bit. His amazing eyes fixed on her curving lips before landing on her eyes.
"Yes, I think you have potential, it would be though, we'd have to work a lot with those little arms and small hands, but we could do something" he shrugged "But we can't, you're too eager to go back to your castle, your husband and your dresses"
Her smiled faded slowly as he turned away once again. It was true she really wanted to see and hug Mildrith, Hilda, Edward and her father, but at the same time, she didn't want to say goodbye to Ivar.
At first, she had been scared, even tried to run thinking those heathens would torture and kill her, remembering all those stories she had heard about the ruthless Ivar the Boneless. But that playful, blue-eyed northman that she had seen giggling with his brother, telling stories about his Gods and who had guided her until she had finally succeeded with the bow didn't look like the monster they described on their stories. It was almost human; a human with his own beliefs and ambitions that wasn't so different from all those men she had met in England.
"Lord Edmund is not..."
"Not your husband yet, I know, princess" he chuckled "But he will be soon, right? Even if I would advise you to reconsider that marriage, taking in consideration that he didn't came to this camp to cut my head off for taking his woman"
Edlynn chuckled. She knew Lord Edmund couldn't really make that decision, besides, she didn't expect him to risk his life for a woman he just met.
"I can't reconsider anything, actually" she smiled sadly "It wasn't my decision"
Ivar raised his eyebrows, nodding slowly. Then he moved to take off his clothes, and Edlynn looked away with her cheeks flushed.
"If I was your father, then, I wouldn't give my daughter to a man that wouldn't die for her"
"I can't ask him that" she smiled, his words warmed her heart "He barely knows me"
"Wouldn't you prefer to marry someone you loved?" Ivar got rid of his shirt, and Edlynn couldn't help but take a look of the dark lines of his back, shaped like a snake.
"I..." she frowned "I will learn to love him, he's... He's good, a good man, he's nice and handsome and... I'm lucky that he chose me, I know many women that had to marry old men that didn't treat them well... Also, I don't know anyone who married for love" she chuckled. With time, she convinced herself that love was built, not found. All those tales Hilda had told her when she was little were fantasy.
"I married for love" Ivar muttered, almost like he didn't mean for Edlynn to hear "I did love the woman I married"
She felt as if someone had kicked her chest. Suddenly, she stopped looking at him and felt stupid for even feeling sad about the fact that he had a wife. Of course he had a wife.
Ivar groaned as he laid on the bed, covering his legs with the furs and closing his eyes as he relaxed against the pillows.
"I didn't know you were married"
Ivar opened his eyes, looking up with what she could describe as a heartbroken expression.
"I was" he muttered "Some time ago"
Edlynn tilted her head with curiosity.
"What happened to her?" she almost felt bad for asking, but Ivar didn't seem to mind.
"She died" his jaw clenched "She betrayed me and she died"
"And... how was she?"
"She was... Beautiful" he almost smiled, and Edlynn bit her lip, looking down "She looked like Freyja, she was blonde and had blue eyes"
The opposite of me, she thought, and immediately felt stupid for even thinking it.
"She sounds pretty" she smiled softly, hating that sad look on his eyes. Ivar then turned his head to look at her, and blinked slowly, almost like he was realizing something.
"I've only loved three women in my life" he shrugged "And one of them was my mother"
His face contorted again, almost like it pained him to think about her.
"And who was the other one?"
Ivar's lips curved on a smile.
"The mother of my child" he muttered "She was a princess, like you, but she was mysterious while you are not" he chuckled. Edlynn glared at him, but ignored his comment once again.
"I'm not a princess, though"
"Because you don't want to" he shrugged "You could be a princess, even a queen, if you wanted to, you are pretty enough to conquer a king"
"Me?" Edlynn giggled, blushing softly "No, I don't think so"
"You would be a good queen" he insisted "You're strong and smart, you respect people" Ivar nodded.
"I still need to find a king" she shrugged "Still pretty impossible"
"Lord Edmund could be your king" Ivar pronounced her betrothed's name mockingly, as always.
"No" Edlynn shook her head "He's handsome, brave and good, but he couldn't be my king, nor my prince, I'd have to find another"
The intensity of Ivar's gaze burned her skin. Edlynn looked away, and moved to lay down and rest her head on the pillows, sticking to her side of the bed as she always did.
"I never knew my mother" she muttered, changing the topic before the tension on the tent escalated too much "She died not long after I was born... She was from Ireland, from a place called Dubh Linn, have you heard about it?"
Ivar nodded slowly. His people had raided that place more than once.
"So she wasn't a saxon?"
Edlynn shook her head.
"Her father brought her here when his lands were taken from him, trying to procure a good future for her and marry her to a lord, my father asked for her hand... At least, that's what they always told me" she shrugged "Father always said I have her hair, and that I look like her... I think that's why he didn't want to raise me when she died, I think it was painful for him... But I can't complain, Hilda is great" Edlynn groaned and rubbed her eyes when she realized she was talking a lot "Please, forgive me, I talk too much"
"No, it's fine" Ivar shook his head with a soft voice, he had turned to look at her, and he felt like he was looking at a goddess. Maybe it was the mead, maybe the exhaustion, but he couldn't help but move a bit closer to her.
"My mother died too" he added "She was killed" he clenched his fists in rage "She always cared for me, she always protected me, even when my father wasn't there" he had a small, sad smile on his lips as he remembered the, sometimes suffocating, love his mother had showed him "And I miss her everyday"
Edlynn nodded. Even if she didn't remember her mother, she also missed her. And in some way she wished she could have had such a relationship with her, maybe she would have been able to explain to her what was that thing she felt, laying down on a northmen's bed and looking at him closely.
"You and I aren't so different, then" she pointed out, smiling softly. Was it her or they were closer now?
"I suppose we are not" the thought seemed to amuse him "Even if we worship different Gods and speak different languages"
When Ivar turned his head again, Edlynn was so close he could feel her quick breathing on his lips. It was nearly as intoxicating as the mead he had drank.
Ivar's hand reached to caress her hair, making Edlynn shudder and gasp, almost like she realized what she was doing.
"Is it not... Inappropriate to be so close to a heathen, princess?" he teased a bit, enjoying the way her cheeks turned red once again.
"At this point..." she sighed, barely able to think about anything that wasn't Ivar "I don't really care"
That made him laugh and his grip on her hair tightened. Edlynn wasn't lying, she couldn't think about God or anything that weren't his blue eyes and his lips parted. Without even thinking about it, she leant in while closing her eyes, and didn't stop until she felt his warm lips against hers.
Edlynn had never kissed anyone, unlike Mildrith and some of the girls at the court, that were stolen a kiss or two in the stables or in a hidden corner of the castle. She never looked at the boys, too occupied with her books, her prayers and other important things. But she could understand now what the priests meant when they talked about temptation. Ivar's lips were addictive, better than anything she had ever tasted, and ignited something inside her that she couldn't recognize.
The kiss was slow, passionate but also shy. They stopped kissing for a moment, but she had barely opened her eyes when Ivar's hand cupped her neck, his thumb caressing her cheek softly before he leant in again. And Edlynn had to put her hand on his warm chest to balance herself, moving her lips against his and leaning more and more into him, feeling like she would die if she wasn’t as close to him as possible.
When they finally broke the kiss, none of them opened their eyes. Ivar was panting, one hand secured against her neck, to keep her lips close to his, and the other one had landed on her waist when she had leant into him almost straddling his waist, and his heart was beating so fast it was almost scary. Her forehead leant into his and Ivar sighed. It had been a long time since he had felt that warmth inside him.

Gray naming spells after his wife we love to see it

G: “Juvia, is your body okay?” And yes, he says the word for body. Not just you, not your injuries, he makes it clear that he’s talking about her body. Because, after all, it’s his, and they both know that.
Tumblr media
J: “What did you say Juvia was to you?” (Going back to last chapter when Gray said she was his power for living) I’m glad this got brought up. Gray isn’t off the hook just yet; Juvia doesn’t forget. Btw, Gray’s response was “Cut it out. One of my friends was in trouble.” But I think we all know Gray wouldn’t do that for just anyone, right? I thought we were passed the friend/nakama stage but whatever, I’ll forgive it; I’m well aware that Gray’s actions speak louder than his words and he did follow by patting Juvia on the head, so...
And last but not least, imo the best page of this chapter...
(this is where I saved as draft and tumblr deleted everything I typed but we’ll ignore my anger)
Tumblr media
Gorgeous. Stunning. The softness. The comfort. The love just dripping off this page. These are some of the best gruvia moments. They’re at peace with one another. No denials, no crazy love confessions, just them holding each other close, like an actual couple. When’s the last time Gray pulled someone (that wasn’t Juvia) this close to him? Gray says “I’m glad you’re all right.” And this, folks, is why I’ve learned to ignore all of his “denials.” He can say whatever he wants, but his actions always say the opposite. This poor man is trapped in a cycle of him denying his feelings, only for him to backtrack on his own words, despite what he actually wants. I don’t know Gray, you better confess sooner or later, for your own good 🤷‍♀️
I was a little disappointed there were no kisses, or confessions, or hand holding or proposals — but realistically speaking, is that really true to Fairy Tail? Nah. I mean, the two married couples in this series have gotten nothing more than hand holding (and ok possibly a sex scene but) let’s be real, we can’t expect too much lovey-dovey action from Fairy Tail. But that’s okay! We don’t need confessions or kisses to know that they’re in love. Would it be nice? Yes. Is it what they deserve? Also yes. But the fact that we know that Gray loves Juvia regardless just proves how well-written their relationship is, as a whole.
Well, that’s all from me for now. I hope we get more chapters like these in the near future — mostly for the gruvia moments, but also because I forgot how fun spewing word vomit could be. I do have to apologize though, I feel like I originally had a lot more typed out but tumblr deleted all of it. Anyway, thanks for reading and I’ll see you soon 💙
Edit: I both misread and typed “Juvia Freeze” as “Juvia Prism” idk how that happened but uh please forgive me 🙇‍♀️ and thanks for pointing that out

Li Zeyan In Love - Character Study
I sat on this because I wanted to get more dates done but, after seeing people bring up this one poem that is the epitome of Li Zeyan in the aftermath of 34, I decided to finish this. This essay has been brought to you from my occasional bursts of frustration at Elex LOL.
First, I need to acknowledge that I'll be pulling comments from others who have made their own amazing discussions about Li Zeyan's charcter. PS. Thanks for inspiring me and giving me points to think about!
SPOILERS to Chapter 21. Plus CN card lines up to Chapter 34.
THE ENDLESS SEARCH
(Sorry, Luoluo, I still have no good essay thoughts on you yet.)
It's amusing that if Bai Qi's love is in the form of "all roads lead to you". He can see where MC is standing and he is moving towards that point, struggling through all the obstacles in the way.
And Xu Mo's love is in the form of the red string of fate. No matter how much they hurt each other, walk in opposite directions, or try to tangle it up, they are forever connected to each other.
Then Li Zeyan's love is in the form of searching for a needle in the haystack. The needle being MC and the haystack being all possible worlds and universes in space-time.
Li Zeyan has tons of quotes about time, staying beside each other, and searching:
[Winter Infatuation SSR] "No matter the distance or time, nothing can prevent me from keeping you by my side."
[Time's End SSR] "I'll find and bring back the past you."
[Tour to Deep Space SSR] "No matter where you are, I will always find you."
[CN Silent Twilight SSR] "You are the only predestined ending I believe in." and "I will cross countless spaces of time to look for an ending which has you."
[Main Story 18-16] "I will definitely find and bring back the past you."
[Main Story 18-23] "Don't make it hard for me to find you, understand?"
This is reflected so painfully in [Dim Light SR] where MC takes Li Zeyan to light lanterns and he writes a poem on it. Elex didn't translate the poem and, at the time, I was somewhat lenient. But after seeing references made to it... ELEX, COME OVER HERE. I JUST WANNA TALK.
So, Li Zeyan wrote:
Tumblr media
The last line about his wish having come true already is the same in both CN and ENG.
He wrote the last line of this poem by Xin Qiji, one of many great poets in Chinese history. Here I have provided Irving Y. Lo's translation of the poem from "Sunflower Splendor: Three Thousand Years of Chinese Poetry".
The Night of the Lantern Festival, to the Tune of ‘Green Jade Table’ - Xin Qiji [1140–1207]
One night’s wind made a thousand trees burst into flower,     And breath down still more     Showers of fallen stars. Splendid horses, carved carriages, fragrance filled the road. Music resounded from paired flutes,     Light swirled on water-clock towers.     All night long, the fabled fish-dragons danced. Gold-threaded jacket, moth- or willow-shaped hair ornaments     Melted into the throng, giggling, a trail of scents. In the crowd I looked for her a thousand and one times,     And all at once, as I turned my head,     I was startled to find her     Among the lanterns where the candles were growing dim.
The bold is Li Zeyan's lines in Chinese.
@love-p typed up an amazing post about the context of this poem:
Regarding Xin Qiji, and the political context of this poem—he was a military general during the Southern Song dynasty, sidelined due to the policy of appeasement against the Jurchen.
The poem reflects his unfortunate political circumstances by contrasting the brilliance and liveliness of the Lantern Festival and the single-minded search of the narrator for just one, special, woman, ultimately finding her in the darkness with the dimming lights.
To the writer, the brilliance and beauty of the festival pale in comparison to his goal. He is not swayed by all this finery, and in fact is willing to reject the light, for what he has held in his heart all along.
Xin Qiji was a deeply passionate patriot, which ultimately led to his discharge and suppression in the changing political tides of the era. He spent decades in seclusion pretending to be indifferent to the world, but he never lost his love for his country, and held fast to his beliefs, even when they could (and did) cost him heavily.
There's other romantic interpretations of this poem, such as the woman deciding to stop and wait when she realized this man was looking for her. She is willing to be with him.
Another interpretation is that, these two are already lovers, and when he turns his head and sees her it reflects how your happiness was right beside you all along and you just needed to turn your head, instead of searching ahead desperately.
So, back to Li Zeyan and MC. He is quoting a poem from someone who suffered for holding fast to their beliefs and who can still ignore everything around him, even the light, to find what he's held in his heart all this time. HM.
@unluckysatellite also pointed out something great, which I bolded for emphasis:
I realized this just now, but MC and Victor have this narrative theme where they keep losing and finding each other, both in the main story and in their dates. The main story plays this out pretty seriously: Victor and MC meet as kids, and then Victor loses MC because of Black Swan, which causes him to search for her the next 17 years. Victor and MC meet in chapter 1 and then Victor loses MC in chapter 18 and he vows to find her again. Victor finding MC in that HBS trap during chapter 10 and nearly losing her at the end of the chapter (with the added irony of him realizing that she was the girl he was looking for all this time). YMMV if you consider MC losing Victor in chapter 14 since a black hole sent Victor traveling into the future, but both managed to keep contact with each other in the time he was away.
BTW the reference is that his [Dim Light SR] was released in 2018 for the real lantern festival holiday. Then in 2019 all the men send gems as gifts during the holiday. Li Zeyan sends mail with the title of "Turning My Head" and the body of the message is him promising to go to the lantern festival with MC this year too, but he reminds her to stay beside him and don't make it so that when he turns his head he can't find her.
THE CONSTANT
Now another common theme that appears over and over again in Li Zeyan's character arc is him being a constant amongst all the change.
[Main Story 11-19] MC confronts Li Zeyan about his overprotectiveness: "It doesn't matter if it's the previous me, or the me in the present, all of them are [a single] me. Do you understand?"
[Winter Infatuation SSR Sinful Late-Night Snack Call] "Of course I'm me. No matter when, the person at your side is always the same me."
@sharinluna wrote a great section about Li Zeyan in Chapters 19-21 and IMO these chapters just hammer in this theme more. Even in a world where none of the men remember MC, Li Zeyan still cruises along (mostly) the same as usual. He really is a steady constant when everything's gone topsy-turvy for the poor MC.
I commented about this in my post on Chapter 19's use of horror but hilariously Li Zeyan is the most normal out of the rest of the men. If the MC weren't around, it's likely he wouldn't be involved in so much craziness. This is reflected in how the MC thinks about how he'd be better off without her in [Main Story 20-4] and her dream version of him in [Main Story 19-6].
However, I always end up thinking about Alfred Lord Tennyson's quote on this topic: "'Tis better to have loved and lost than never to have loved at all."
I honestly think this is one of the themes of the game too, shown at the end of Chapter 19 where MC doesn't regret holding onto her memories and experiences with everyone, even if that means going back to the cruel real world.
Because the game (hopefully) isn't going to invalidate our experiences with everyone that means that Li Zeyan is not better off for not meeting the MC.
IMO love doesn't have to do something monumental like change your world but I think it adds something to our experience as humans (no matter its form: platonic, romantic, compassionate, selfless, etc). This is why I love this game so much because it's all about love in its entirety.
So, even if Li Zeyan's character isn't changed in any earth-shattering way from meeting or not meeting the MC the fact that he chooses MC again and again over everything else means something. He is willing to sacrifice everything to find her, no matter how long it takes him or how many worlds and times he has to traverse. His constant state is choosing MC.
I'm so scared about the Banquet of the Fallen Moon. Why did he turn into a demon lord SOBS when he promised his father he wouldn't go down that path? If it's connected to MC... OOF.
THE LOVE AND SUPPORT
Here we reach the relationship the two do have! Uh, I swear I wasn't intentionally picking the sad quotes...
[Main Story 6-16] "In your eyes? Am I that unapproachable?" He says this but then grabs her hand and holds it through his company, not caring who sees them.
[Main Story 10-25] "I'm sorry, I came late. I won't lose you a second time. Nothing will be able to hurt you again. In the future, let me fight your battles for you, just like how you protected me that year, alright?"
[Main Story 11-14] "I won't hesitate to pay any price in order to let you avoid all dangers and affairs... The things you wish to do, I will release you and let you do them. However, now isn't the time. That's why, you need to be a bit more obedient."
[Chapter 11] in general shows his protectiveness over MC and consideration for her. From caring for her in the hospital, to sending her between work and home, and even the SP detail (even though it became overwhelming).
[Main Story 18-3] "... Every time I call you dumb isn't to insult you. [...] It's acknowledgement."
IMO these are all more examples of how Li Zeyan is like a steady mountain or a tree that provides a canopy and safe harbor for the MC to take her time growing up under. He wants her to better herself because he cares for her (like a quintessential Capricorn) but at the same time he knows when to back off and let her go at her own speed.
Li Zeyan will be there every step of the way with MC, just a little bit ahead of her so she has a direction but always ready to catch her should she fall. Unlike a certain BS liar COUGHS.
@sharinluna also wrote this great post on Reddit about how the dates reflect Li Zeyan's patience and awareness of the imbalance in his and MC's relationship. Chapter 11 shows this too where he realizes he was overwhelming her and brings back the "old" Li Zeyan to wait for her to make a decision on her own feelings.
Finishing off this essay with some quotes:
[Instant Moment SSR] "There is no such thing as eternity, only every single moment together with you."
This is so cute since it's said by the man who can traverse time. It's the little snapshot moments he can get with MC that mean the most to him.
There's actually another related quote which comes from [Winter Infatuation SSR Sinful Late-Night Snack Call]. This happens when they're talking about the meaning of the Ephemere shop and Li Zeyan quotes a poem about mayflies.
Tumblr media
The Chinese line is from the poem "Former Ode on the Red Cliffs" by Su Shi:
"We are like mayflies enjoying a flicker of life in this world, and as infinitesimal as a grain in the sea."
Ironically, Li Zeyan is not asking much at all of the world. He is someone who has everything but all he wants is just a peaceful life with the love of his life and he has shown again and again that he's willing to give up everything for her...
But the universe spits in his face (because tragic Chinese archetype of Crown Prince/Emperor LOL) and makes him suffer so much just for wanting some fleeting moments of joy in this flickering human life they both have.

Hi !! I’ve been absolutely loving all the fickets ! I saw your post about how you feel Merthur is in canon and how you think arthur is gay and just like Repressed as hell and I found that to be really interesting and true ! If you want could you write a fic where Merlin kisses arthur and arthur is so shocked because he had never thought anyone could feel the same way that he does or something like that ? Honestly just go wild lmao ! Thank you !
I’m assuming you mean this post about my headcanons for Merthur, Arwen, Merwaine (all very amazing ships btw, I know it doesn’t seem like it, but I am a multishipper at heart).
Set in Season 1. Probably not canon compliant.
***
The Prince might have had too much mead. The tournament had been a success, Arthur had claimed victory, and the feast had been delicious. So if he overindulged in mead, he certainly wasn’t the only one. His fellow knights were swaying on their feet. The King was laughing loudly as he talked with his councilors. Even the servants, who Arthur knew had been taking small sips out of the pitchers all night, were looking flushed.
Merlin especially was swaying on his feet. More so than usual, of course. Arthur typically would have been upset, but Merlin was grinning at him, his cheeks flushed and his body leaning just a bit too close. Usually Arthur ignored the heat that rose in his belly, but tonight was different. He was far too drunk to control himself.
With one arm draped over Merlin’s shoulder, the two of them stumbled their way up the stairs and towards Arthur’s chambers.
They were laughing as they fell into the chambers. Arthur didn’t remember what they were laughing at, but it didn’t matter at the moment.
They caught each other’s eye and that was when Arthur realized they were nose-to-nose, leaning against the closed chamber door.
Arthur’s mind was too addled to move. That didn’t seem to stop Merlin, who placed a hand on either side of Arthur, blocking him in.
Before Arthur knew what was happening, Merlin was kissing him. On instinct, Arthur kissed back, moving his lips against Merlin’s. Only after an embarrassingly long time did Arthur realize what was happening.
“Wait,” Arthur said, his heart hammering in his chest.
Merlin hummed against his lips, his dark eyes level with Arthur’s.
“You’re drunk,” Arthur’s voice was choked, “I’m not…”
Merlin must have been drunker than Arthur initially thought. Merlin had to have been out of his mind to kiss Arthur, when he probably meant to fall into bed with one of the serving girls. Not the Prince. Not a man.
Merlin leaned against Arthur, pressing him against the wall. Arthur breath caught in his throat as he felt Merlin against him.
“You can’t- What are you doing?”
Merlin laughed, running his hands up Arthur’s neck, leaving trails of heat in their wake. “What does it look like I’m doing?” Merlin leaned in again, and Arthur was powerless to him. Merlin tilted his head to the side, perfectly capturing Arthur’s lips. Merlin’s chin was rough with evening stubble, and it made Arthur shiver.
The problem with Merlin was that he wasn’t like anyone Arthur had ever met before. With the knights, when Arthur felt heat rise low in his belly, he could pass it off as admiration for their bodies as a warrior. They were strong and handsome, and Arthur could imagine what a lady might see in them. With Merlin, none of that applied. Merlin wasn’t a warrior, and although he had muscle, he was thin and actively avoided fighting. Try as he might, Arthur could not fathom a reasonable explanation for the low heat he felt when he looked at Merlin.
Arthur pulled away again, gasping for air, “Stop, you don’t know what you’re doing.”
Merlin’s eyelids were low, and his smile was lecherous, “Just because I’m not some spoiled prince doesn’t mean I don’t know what I’m doing, sire.”
Arthur’s mouth went dry. Merlin definitely knew who he was kissing. He wasn’t drunk out of his mind. He was coherent and he was-
Arthur felt his breath leave him as Merlin rocked his hips against Arthur’s. His lips latched onto Arthur’s jaw, his hands were hot against Arthur’s skin.
“You’ve done this before? With other men?”
Merlin pulled back to look at him, his brows pinched together. Something must have dawned on him, because he didn’t answer. He said, “You haven’t?”
Arthur shook his head, “With women.” Normally he would have avoided this conversation all together. He would have never confessed this to anyone. “I didn’t think other men would ever…”
Merlin’s thumb grazed over Arthur’s jaw, his brows pinched together.
“You didn’t think other men… You thought you were the only one?”
Arthur felt his face heat up. Now that it was said out loud, it almost sounded egocentric. But he had never heard of it before. He may have led a sheltered life in the citadel, but he hadn’t thought he was that out of touch with the common people. Merlin, of course, had come along to prove that notion wrong on several occasions. Including this one.
Arthur swallowed, “So you…?”
“Yeah,” Merlin nodded, “I mean, only once. But I know I’m not the only one. So you certainly aren’t.”
“Oh,” Arthur said, too drunk to fully process it. But his heart felt lighter.
Merlin ran a hand over Arthur’s chest, “Do you still want to…?”
Arthur felt a desperate noise climb up his throat, and he caught onto it at the last second. Instead he gathered up his courage and curled a hand into Merlin’s jacket and pulled him into a rough kiss. Merlin responded with enthusiasm.
In the morning light, Arthur turned over to look at Merlin. He arms were splayed above his head, he was snoring softly, and the sheets barely covered him. Arthur ran a hand over Merlin’s hip, feeling the sharp bone under his fingers. He ran his fingers through the course hair of his stomach and chest. He lifted himself up onto his elbows until he was able to press his lips to Merlin’s jaw, feeling the morning stubble beneath his lips.
Merlin grumbled as he woke up, and Arthur caught his arm right before he elbowed Arthur in the head. Merlin opened his eyes, “Oh,” he blinked a few times, obviously slow to remember the night before.
Arthur cleared his throat, “Morning.”
“Morning,” Merlin said, his voice rough with sleep. “I should…” Merlin made a vague gesture to the door.
Arthur hesitated for a just a second, before rolling on top of Merlin. “Or you could stay.”
“Or I could stay,” Merlin smiled, pulling Arthur down.

The Final Scene Review:
Tumblr media
Atmosphere/Layout:
I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, the Nancy Drew games do a stellar job at placing the player within the game. FIN is often given the due credit of being one of the best atmospheric games. The artists effectively portrayed a theater that is long past its prime. Everything is tattered and dusty. Things are old and rusty. How long has that popcorn been sitting there? Or that bubble gum? Who knows? It’s gorgeous! It’s incredible how they manage to make the theater so nostalgic to the player despite it being fictional. It really reminds you of old buildings that are destroyed to make way for corporate offices or businesses. It’s one of the few Nancy Drew games that sets the tone right from the start – dangerous and fast-paced. Maya’s kidnapping sets in the urgency, but right from the start players are required to navigate through an abandoned and creepy backroom only to pop out of a closet. It’s these two scenes that really hammer into the reader that this game is playing no nonsense. It’s like that moment in all horror movies/games where the characters realize this is for real. It really makes sense for the stage rooms to have a bunch of junk lying around here and there because it’s been abandoned. Allowing Nancy to look at them just continues to hammer that in. I mean, did anyone else feel slightly grossed out at the sink with a plunger in it? You really resonate with Nick Falcone’s commitment of protecting America from becoming Generica. Despite its dilapidated state, I’m pretty sure we all can agree that the theater commanded a presence. This game reminded me of the old Scooby Doo episode where they go to the puppet theater and are haunted by that creepy puppet master. And just like the Scooby doo gang, you always felt like someone was watching you—especially in areas like the underground basement and the main theater room.
Music:
Another stellar masterpiece. I don’t think there is a single track I hated. Each title retained the jazzy elements of the theater’s ritzy days, yet there is always something creepy intermixed within it. It really set in the feeling that someone was following you around. Tracks like “Lobby” and “Maya” really brought this feeling home, especially at end game when the danger music is playing and it intermixes with Maya’s theme. OMG, when that music started playing, I really got chills and started to become frantic. I forgot that the axe and hammer don’t work on the ice cube cupboard, which made me waste time. I actually finished this game with seconds to spare because I didn’t know that time didn’t stop when you read the letters.
In terms of little noises, I loved the sound of the doors as you opened it and the rustle of the curtains as you moved them aside. The noise the key make makes and the papers on Nick Falcone’s desk!
Characters:
Nancy: I think everyone agrees that FIN Nancy is a Nancy we rarely ever see. She is taking no crap from anyone. Not only does it reinstate the sense of urgency, but it also shows a Nancy who refuses to be pushed around by others. I mean, not one character dumps their chores onto Nancy! Well Nick Falcone sort of does, but Nancy has the option of calling him out on this!
Simone Muller: Ah, who can forget the best introduction lines ever, “I’m going to have to call you back, someone just stepped out of my closet”. That one line gives you everything you need to know about Simone. She’s busy, has no time for strange occurrences, and doesn’t let anything get in the way of her plans. I love her rudeness, especially when you combine it with Brady and the book he’s reading on “being your own self”. The fact that she refuses to talk to Nancy until the end of day one enforces that “I’ve got no time for you” managerial, Hollywood attitude. One thing this game does well is in making each character suspicious. There is no object or goal the characters are trying to attain, but rather, the game focuses on the lengths they would go to in order to satisfy their desires. Simone wants to make Brady famous because that would make her rich. Thus, from her dealings with Brady’s fans and the floral card, it makes sense that she might kidnap Maya. BTW, I just want to say how amazing this game is by making all the suspicious evidence be everyday items. For Simone, it’s messages and a floral business card. In other words, the suspicion is put on the character’s motives and their personality, as in, how they would achieve said goals.
Brady Armstrong: Total Hottie, am I right? Oh wait, wrong game. Out of the 4 suspects, Brady is the weakest because he really has no reason to kidnap Maya. Even if it was a publicity stunt it wouldn’t be him doing the kidnapping, Simone would make sure of that! But the plot twist they gave to his character was really cool and unexpected. It did bring some new questions, but within the context of the game, it was really great because it took the character with the lowest suspicion rate and made him super suspicious! I know some people might feel like it’s random and came out of nowhere, but I disagree. Brady is shown to have qualms with the amount of control Simone has over his life, not to mention his own fears of a waning career (which btw, nicely ties in with a theater past its prime theme). After Joseph, he shows the most amount of concern for Maya but it feels superficial, like it’s for a press. Later you see him reading the assert yourself book which builds his confidence not only to get out of Simone’s grasps but to go down a different path. Finally, he keeps everything in an office briefcase. It’s a subtle growth, but it’s there.
Nick Falcone: Probably the person the game wanted you to think is the most suspicious because Maya’s kidnapping falls right into his plans, and his past borderline illegal activates to preserve the theater. Honestly, even knowing the true criminal, I think the game did a good job at making Nick suspicious. He gives off the aura of one of those people who make you feel included and then next thing you know you helped someone out in a crime. One of those I’ll be nice and make you trust me, but I have ulterior motives and don’t trust you types. And yet, the game did something so clever with his character that connects him to the real criminal. You see, Nick is relatively nice to Nancy and actually works alongside her a bit, kind of like someone else we know. It’s a clever trick to make Joseph’s eventually reveal seem less jarring because the game has already shown a nice character who is extremely shady.
Joseph Huges: One of those tragic yet scary villains. You really sympathize with his desire to save the theater and his desperation. I felt really bad when the note about his brother’s death was discovered. He’s nice, but the game uses his niceness against you. He’s always there when you need help (he’s watching you). He tries to help you find Maya (he’s making sure you don’t find her before the demolition is due). He’s definitely one of the more dangerous villains because of his desire to be your friend. And yet, I kind of felt like they weren’t intentionally trying to hide this side of Joseph. One of the most obvious things about Maya’s kidnapping is that it would require someone to have intense knowledge of the theater’s layouts, and out of all the characters, Joseph has the most. So from the start, the finger was already on Joseph, but either his “kindness” makes you forget it or makes you deny it because it’s hard to believe. I still wonder if his denial confrontation is intentional or not, or a mix of both. It’s hard to say, he’s definitely a villain that’s exhausted. But it certainly made him one of the best, if not the best, villains in the series.
Puzzles: This game had a nice balance between the puzzles and game. The puzzles weren’t super complicated but they nicely integrated with the theater. I mean, it really wouldn’t make sense for a theater to have complicated puzzles here and there. I think the most complicated puzzle would be the one to get access to the magician’s room. The only puzzle that was a disappointment was using the keys in the attic to get past the door. There were so many keys and they were of similar colour which just made everything chaotic. The end game puzzle was hilarious because it wasn’t a puzzle at all. It was just a magic trick, yet it worked because of the setting! Simone’s phone was a little daunting because I didn’t know what the objective was. I knew you had to put the number from the lipstick card, but where and how wasn’t clear. I kind of guessed a few times then got it.
This game really hammered in the magical phrase “Appearances can be deceiving”.
One funny thing was with the electric door. I forgot to look into the chest to get the rubber gloves, so when I came to the electric door I started to improvise. Instead of going back to get the gloves, my brain went “Well, wood isn’t a good conductor of electricity so if we use the magic wand which is most likely made of wood as a stick and press the numbers with it, we should be good”….. I had to hear Nancy’s scream 3 times before I remembered the gloves.
There were a lot of phone calls, but I like talking to people and gathering bits of clues here and there and having to put everything together. Also, I loved Houdini’s cousin’s morbid humour, LOVED IT!
Graphics:
They show their age here and there, but like the theater, sometimes old is gold. This game doesn’t have little animations that are unique to the character. You could argue for Simone and Joseph as they both had something that was related to their work, but neither revealed much about their character. Graphics is something you can only talk about with the later games, but this game still provided unique angles like Joseph’s head peering into the trap door/magician’s room area.
Plot: It was fantastic. Everything is high stakes and instead of receiving help, Nancy receives reluctance and incompetence. No wonder she tags alongside the villain, he’s the only one who tries to help.
The only thing that I don’t completely get is why Brady felt threatened by Maya. So what if she exposes the fact that he’s the owner of the theater? How does that affect his popularity? If anything, planet Tinseltown would make a bigger dent in it.
Overall, loved this game. 10/10

what’s ur favourite movie? I feel like you have great taste in movies 🤍 I’m always looking to watch some films or talk abt it.
honestly having that kind of vibe is such a compliment so thank u so much for that 💗BUT my favorite movie by far is probably, still, prisoners starring hugh jackman & jake gyllenhaal. it has such an amazing angst and the directing, filming and just the whole thing is *chefs kiss* i give it 10/10. but i’m a documentary girl so most of my recommendations will probably be those... and some rom coms and crime- (this will be unnecessarily long so i do apologize)
hustlers!!! 10/10. rated r. drama. constance wu and jennifer lopez. it’s a movie about strippers saying fuck the rich and it’s loosely based on true stories. it’s sort of a comfort movie but i think it’s a perfect mix of angst, humor and comedy.
john mulaney’s new in town, comeback kid & kid gorgeous. 100/10 rated r. comedy. they’re all hilarious and make me laugh as hard as i did the first time. john mulaney’s comedy is so accurate that it scares me.
call me by your name. 9/10. rated r. drama/romance. our favorite peach boy & armon hammer. i read the book and it made me cry & luca guadagnino is an amazing director and i definitely recommend this movie if you want a good cry.
scream. 100/10. rated r. thriller. ALWAYS my go-to movie. people usually associate it with halloween, but i watch it anytime of the year (btw coraline is also a rec!) it’s basic satire and it’s ironic to every halloween cliche.
beautiful boy. 10/10. rated r. drama. based on a true story of a father dealing with his son’s addiction to drugs. it’s a movie that makes me have a good cry every time i watch it and i think it speaks a lot to the drug and opiod crisis in the united states.
all 8 of the harry potter movies. 10000/10. rated pg-13. i am a potterhead. i will admit that and this is my favorite book AND movie series since i was little. while jk rowling fucking sucks, i think that i related to the books and characters a lot and i always wanted to be a wizard. but i’m a certified slytherin so... take this as you will.
10 things i hate about you. 10/10. coming of age/romcom. my FAVORITE coming of age story. it’s a classic 90′s romp and i think that it’s the most relatable high school characters you’ll see in a movie? (except spider-man: hc). plus young joseph gordon levitt. he is very cute & almost peter parker like.
la 92. 10/10. rated r. documentary. this film really explains the idea of racism and prejudice with no opinions. it’s raw footage taken from the civil rights movement to the la riots in 1992. i think it was hard to watch at first, but i really enjoyed how telling it was without a narrator and it’s all based on fact.
documentaries: the life of marsha p. johnson, disclosure (trans community), fyre (the greatest party that never happened), a secret love (lgbtq+), the weight of gold (sports), knock down the house (politics), tiger king, i am heath ledger
romcom: legally blonde, to all the boys i’ve loved before, failure to launch, maid in manhattan, a knight’s tale, love simon, love rosie, high school musical 3, crazy rich asians, friends with benefits,
independent: hot summer nights, whiplash, enemy, ladybird,
horror/thriller: it + it 2, the devil all the time, zombieland, get out
now.... i know that was long but i hope you got a few recommendations!!! thank u for sending the ask (-:

The Report Card -- Fantasy High Sophomore Year Ep 1
Sophomores and Spring Break
Note: Hey guys! I decided to try something a little bit different and slightly more structured than my usual recaps for FH: Sophomore Year. I’m hoping this will be a little easier for me and a more useful tool for keeping up to date since there will be a lot more eps to keep track of and they’ll be easier to miss. Lemme know what you think and if you want raw, unfiltered opinions on anything specific, feel free to send me an ask. I’m always down to go off about literally whatever.
We’re back, baby! It is Sophomore Year at Aguefort and the gang is on Spring Break. A lot is going down so lemme break it down. The Bad Kids, having defeated Kalvaxus last year, are all entitled to a share of his hoard and all the red tape is finally cleared so they all get 20k gold each (which is an insane amount of money converted to USD if you use the WOTC conversion rate of a gold coin being around $145 (circa 2006 when they answered the question)--which would be close to $330 with inflation). Jawbone and Sandra-Lynn are moving in after less than a year into a profoundly haunted house and it’s kind of a Full House situation because Adaine, Fig, Kristen, and Tracker all officially live there (plus it seems that Zayn has also anchored himself to Adaine’s tower--btw, Adaine took the tower that the haunted house obviously has) and you know all the other Bad Kids are gonna be there on the regular.
More importantly, Aguefort gives the gang their big project for the year--finding the crown of the Nightmare King which was stolen at the end of last season--which is worth 60% of their grade (Adaine does a full Hermione at this information). Each of the gang has info about the NK but the trail has mostly gone cold. Luckily, Fabian just got a hot tip about where Falinel is keeping Aelwyn and she seems like a pretty good lead to start with since she was super tied up in the bad side of all the messiness of last year. Adaine is displeased to say the least.
Going off to find the crown is super exciting story-wise for two reasons. First of all, it means the gang gets to hire, well, hirelings to help them and temporarily join the party! They ping basically every cool NPC they can think of (except for Tracker for some reason which is BONKERS because (1) she probably would have done it for free and cutting her in would still be keeping the money in the family, (2) she’s dope as hell, (3) she’s a cleric and the party can always use more healers, (4) she’s a werewolf so presumably she has skills that would help in the woods, and (5) they’re t r a c k i n g down a crown and the girl’s name is literally T R A C K E R, but I will not backseat D&D) and eventually end up with Ragh (who has been without an adventuring party all year, poor guy), Sandra-Lynn (swayed by a nat 20 rolled by Fig), Cathilda (!?) ,and, for some reason, Gilear (which Fabian is happy about, mainly for the opportunity to maybe bump him off on the way). Second of all, if you recall, Elmville is a pretty modern town but the rest of the continent is less fantasy high, more high fantasy. Horses and lanterns and all that pseudo-medieval goodness. They are gonna stick out like a sore thumb. I am very here for it.
Everyone goes home to rest up but, after some ominous dreams, only four of them wake up. Riz and Fig are left asleep and then Brennan mic drops and ends the episode which is a power move and I am extremely upset about it but also, respect. Right for the jugular immediately. I heard Murph and Emily are on tour in the UK next week which probably has something to do with this but, in the moment, I did not know that and I really felt the hammer drop in my heart. It was wild. Cannot wait to see where we go from here. Plus, who doesn’t love watching characters freak out because their friends are in danger?
Random Thoughts
I have no idea what the title of this episode is or if it’ll even have one and not a number but I gave it a placeholder one for now. I also don’t have access to the stream yet so I didn’t get to include some info I wanted to (like a record of nat 20s, and nat 1s so I can track their stats for the school year) and I probably missed some stuff because my brain can only hold so much info guys. I’m not Brennan.
I mentioned this yesterday during the stream, but there will never be anything better than the pure D&D joy of everyone, in character, talking over each other to clown on each other. They get the friend-group banter that’s a hair breadth’s away from bullying so true to life and it’s so fun to watch. On the flip side, the opening scene with everyone introducing themselves and affirmatively claiming each other as their best friends was also peak D&D. Found family= best trope.
Fig and Adaine burn spell-slots at basically the same time to try and beat each other to the best room in the (Scooby-Doo ass) house--which is exactly the kind of thing that would happen in this world. It’s such an intuitive setting. I love it so much. (BTW, Fig ends up staying in the false space under the revolving grand piano because, of course).
Fabian and Gorgug went to recruit Ragh, who assumed they were propositioning him for a three-way. In his defense, they did do it in a super proposition-y way and they were in the middle of the LGBTQ student union.
Also, Gorgug gives Ragh an inspiring speech about thinking you’re your own dad which makes him burst into tears.
Speaking of, Jawbone offhandedly says he’s poly but, like, based on some of the stuff he’s said, I feel like that’s not really a reveal. He also gets along well with Gorthalax and would be down w/ a three-way if Sandra-Lynn wanted to which, again, totally checks out.
Arthur Aguefort uses Chronomancy to rewind time and catch a snide comment Adaine made under her breath, which is exactly the kind of frivolous use of God-like power I’d expect from him.
I really love Adaine’s energy coming into this season. She’s in therapy. She’s in a good home environment. She’s comfortable enough with her friend group to do stuff like prank Fig (love that they’re gonna be living together now). And she’s good friends with Zayn now which I want to see more of based on their one interaction in this ep which was very cute. I am already on record as saying I would be down with her getting a ghost boyfriend--I mean, for the aesthetic alone--but I’d be happy with just more friendship.
Fabian is also hilarious this season because you can tell he’s gone a bit soft from having friends and leaning into that (the friendship necklace with Riz) but also he’s fully aware that it’s happening so he’s, like, ping-ponging back and forth like, “These are my friends,” and, “What am I saying? I used to be cool,” and it’s very funny. Very happy the Aelwyn storyline is happening right out of the gate, both because I think Aelwyn is a very interesting character with a lot of potential for nuance but also because Fabian reacting to her and Adaine reacting to Fabian reacting to her is always gold.
Prompted by an offhand conversation from Fig about rock and roll, Brennan--earning another feather for his Cap of God Tier DMing--goes on an impromptu five minute long improved diatribe about a bard who played such a good concert that it instantly impregnated everyone in attendance (dudes too) who gave birth to kids with sick rocker hair and denim jackets and ascended to Rock Heaven on their 18th Birthday. You truly have to watch it to believe it. At a certain point I thought he was gonna drop it but that was the moment he doubled down and kept going. Amazing.
Watching Murph, in real time, make up a girl/boy/whateverfriend in Fantasy Canada was a gift.
I don’t have access to the stream yet but best quote of the night that I can remember is Kristen choosing her room: This is triggering and I’ll take it. (Her line about her lesbian starter kit and the one about wanting a horse were also bangers).
The group talks about what they’re going to do for transportation outside of Elmsville since they don’t really use cars out there and they somehow get from “disguise Fig’s tour bus” to “commission Aguefort to create a brand new animal that can hold six people plus hirelings, one of which is Fabian who is also riding his motorbike”.
I love that Sandra-Lynn’s Mom Powers work on Tracker.
Basrar doesn’t accept the invitation to come with on the quest, but he does give Kristen a bag of infinite ice cream sandwiches, which is basically just as good, IMO.
Oh Gilear. The man is sleeping in the Seacaster garage, being bullied by skater kids, and now he’s stuck on this quest with his ex and Fabian who actively wants him dead.
Speaking of, I’m psyched to see more of Sandra-Lynn. She was kind of a sleeper badass at the end of last season.
Ragh is keeping secrets which I hope the cast doesn’t forget because it could be nothing serious (like the high school drama happening with Skrank and the 7 maidens--maybe he’s just crushing on Gorgug who did full kiss him during Promocalypse) or it could be Serious Business that will blow up if the don’t stay on top of it. We’ll see.
Oh, almost forgot. Adaine wants an emotional support frog. Every time I think I can’t love her more.
Detention
Fig for Not Respecting Personal Boundaries
Fig goes full Emily right out the gate and, after finding out that Skrank (nerdy bird dude who apparently can get it) was not only dating Ostentasia (rich, popular dwarf) but also dumped her in pursuit of Danielle Barkstock (one of Ostentasia’s party members, the scandal), disguises herself as him with Danielle to figure out what’s going on. And, wouldn't you know it, when she gives herself away, Danielle immediately is shocked and appalled, as you would be, obviously. We also learn that she’s still catfishing Dr. Asha which is, how you say, for sure a crime. Fig, please, I’m begging you. Cease.
Honor Roll
Fig, Riz, and Adaine for Researching the Nightmare King
Fig made both lists, look at that. Wasn’t my plan for this to be a three-way tie (also didn’t expect to use the word “three-way” this many times in this writeup) but I think their contributions were pretty much equally valuable. Rainsolo on the Discord wrote up this summary of the lore dump Brennan gave them.

on Mira Shenoy: an unfiltered rant about wasted potential
[like genuinely unfiltered, i’m actually a little sorry 🙈🙈]
she is (was?) Mohinder's ex-and-again girlfriend, and she literally got like 4 scenes on the whole show
two in the first season and two in the fourth
AND THE THING IS!!!!!!!!!!
SHE WAS INTRODUCED AS MOHINDER'S *EQUAL*
another geneticist, far as we at all know good at it, SHE CAME TO HIM TO OFFER HIM A JOB. to work alongside her!!
i was actually curious about how they might've grown up together, there was the implication they split bc she kept throwing shade at Chandra's pursuits and Mohinder, though not convinced himself, still very much loved and wanted to protect his father's honor, so he argued, and that's what drove them apart in the end
(i don't remember where the canon evidence for that was from though, might just be a fan theory ig)
but anyway!! another scientist, i must admit that would've been a good match for Mohinder! (yk, far as canon '''possibilities''' go)
[fun fact i thought Maya was horribly annoying, and i am SO fucking glad she and Mohinder were supposed to date again in Vol. 4 but that was cut completely ☺ the way he tried to hinge his 'human-ness' on Her Approval was just,,,,,, BAD WRONG NOPE]
BUT THEN
SEASON FOUR ROLLED ALONG
and i'm 99.9% convinced Sendhil was really busy and that's the reason they *basically wrote him out*
BUT THE WAY THEY DID IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
you can make one or another case for sexism in Heroes sure, but nothing *too bad*, right??
WRONG
e v e r y t h i n g  they did to Mira's character was sexist as FUCK, her and Mohinder's storyline (much, or rather little, of it as there was!!!) was DISGUSTINGLY badly done. The Great, Smart AND Strong Man Hero and His Narrow-Minded House Wife, The Show.
like you can tell me a lot but not that that tonal shift wasn't intentional???
when we first see Mira, she might look like a stereotypical 'pretty indian girl' but at least!! she has intrigue!! she has The Smarts and she's *interesting*
and in S4????? she is all dressed in dull colors (at first i honestly thought they recast the actress!! she looked way older!!!!), 100% the boring housewifey. AND THE WORST OF IT, THE VERY WORST. (bc yes, perpetuating the more than 🤢🤢 'intriguing asian hottie instantly becomes obedient, mousey mother stand-in once you date her' trope is NOT ACTUALLY THE WORST PART)
the worst part is that there is NO mention of her intellect anymore???? Mohinder works as a professor again (not a researcher, LIKE HE WAS SUPPOSED TO RE: THAT JOB OFFER), and there's a sweet moment w/ him & a student that she clearly likes (no doubt the reading here is that she wants kids -.-)....... and she shuns all of his previous pursuits / his father's research, BECAUSE AND I QUOTE: ''you have a good life here!''
and when Mohinder persists, she tells him that she won't wait for him if he leaves again. maybe they were going for an Empowering Moment by making her put her foot down like that, but it just hammers home that Mohinder is OBVIOUSLY doing THE ONLY RIGHT THING, and that his girlfriend's simply too limited to understand that.
woman
made
to
be
the
idiot
to
praise
the
man's
narrative.
CLASSIC CASE.
they take basically ALL of the blame away from him, even though his actions wind up getting him KILLED, his meek 'i broke a promise to a girl.... :(' afterwards just sounds DUMB, and besides,,, isn't the point whatsoever????
the point is that he took a HUGE risk (which btw wound up (however indirectly) getting HUNDREDS OF PEOPLE KILLED, and no one went back to save *them*!!!). the point is that there's something restless, unhinged, and maybe not 100% good in him. still amazing, ofc, it's the true spirit of the scientist, 'discovery at all cost'.
thankfully, it's not quite as extreme as anything he did in Vol. 3 but it's the same!!! spirit!!! that energy that drives him the whole ass time. when Nirand tells him more or less flat-out to drop the pursuit of his father's killer and live a normal life with Mira instead, he refuses with little doubt. and he's still that guy!!!! not because there's anything wrong w/ Mira, but bc he will never *settle*. only that,,, just Maybe, *at this point*.... he could?? at least take it a LITTLE easier???? as i said, his behavior isn't exactly unproblematic.
AND
THEY
COULD
HAVE
MADE
THAT
A
THING
*SO EASILY!!!!!!!!*
and IN THE SAME STROKE keep Mira's honor as a woman of SCIENCE, who has greater ambitions than a man who's good w/ kids and ''a good (meaning QUIET, ORDINARY) life''!!!!!
but NO
goddammit,,,,, i could write the fucken dialogue FOR THEM. JUST have her argue that going back to the states on some new, uncertain quest is DANGEROUS, first of all - i mean, she even p much does that in canon - and then have her contrast that not to '''a good life''', but to THEIR. RESEARCH. RIGHT THERE!! have them BOTH be ACADEMIC RESEARCHERS, studying shit together, sharing that passion AND INDEED ENJOYING IT, and the rest writes itself!!!
Mohinder is tempted by the discoveries FIELDWORK can make, damn the dangers. THAT IS LITERALLY ALL THEY WOULD HAVE NEEDED TO DO. make her as smart as she SHOULD BE, and him not the purely blameless, misunderstood white knight!!! not FULLY!!
[fyi in the comics we see their reunion, and it's 200% male fantasy,,, don't get me wrong i love HOW he got his ability, but just sometimes, i think it was indeed a bad idea to give the nerds muscles. they tend to be made into ridiculously one-dimensional action heroes all out of a sudden, then...]

Every Single Star vs. the Forces of Evil episode in one sentence or less
I’ll probably post a more in depth-review later this week, as I have opinions literally no one wants to hear but I will proclaim anyway, and then I’ll probably also due a revision of my ‘Past Queens Connection to Star’ post from way back in season 2. Cause that needs an update.
Anyway, enjoy!

Party With a Pony: Spoopy Wardens hunt for the glitter pony while Star gets ice for Marco’s sweaty back.
Matchmaker: In which we learn it was probably a bad idea to give Star the wand in the first place.

Puddle Defender: Aw, look at the little buff babies, they’re getting so big!
King Ludo: The mime stole the show.
Toffee: Yeah, I think the writing peaked somewhere around here...

Club Snubbed: I literally yelled “Phrasing!” whenever they dropped the title
Stranger Danger: Is she the new antagonist of the series? I can’t tell
Demoncism: Tom is a wonderful baby boy and Ponyhead is written as likeable, part 2!
Sophmore Slump: *sobbing* Jackie deserved better, dang it!
Lint Catcher: I’m starting to wonder if there is any competant authority figure in Mewni
Trial by Squire: I think the writers were all like” You think these guys will ship anyone with Marco?” and decided to test that theory.
Princess Turdina: I got more lore out of this episode than I thought I would.
Starfari: Welp, she makes me uncomfortable.
Sweet Dreams: *Sailor Moon-ing intensifies*
Lava Lake Beack: Proof that this fandom will ship anyone with Marco at the slightest inclanation
Death Peck: Rich Pigeon is my new favorite birb and Ponyhead is written as likeable for the third time
Ponymonium: Well, it was nice while it lasted.
Night Life: The writers made so many new ships they had to get rid of an old one!
Deep Dive: “Chicken butt”
Monster Bash: Well, that explains the cheekmarks.
Stump Day: I think they just made an episode based around a picture from that bookcover.
Holiday Special: *insert every cheesy Christmas/Holiday episode trope here*
The Bog Beast of Boggabah: The title is fun to say and the episode is average at best.
Total Eclipsa the Moon: Seriously, I’m supposed to think she’s an ultimate villain.
Butterfly Trap: In which we are all Sean, don’t lie we were all him at the end
Ludo, Where Art Thou?: Dennis is best brother, hands down.
Is Another Mystery: *sniff* I got more emotional over this episode than anyone else did and I’m not sure how I feel about that
Marco Jr.: I… I just… Why? What’s the point?
Skooled!: Epic advertisment fakeout combined with wonderful character development and lore with a shock ending makes a 8/10 episode.
Booth Buddies: Old Man McGucket ships Starco, proceed to react accordingly
Bam Ui Pati!: Ponyhead is kinda likeable in this episod–nevermind she’s back.
Tough Love: Oh man, it’s happening! It’s happening guys here we go!
Divide: We are going to war everybody–And they’re all dead. That was quick.
Conquer: They should have paid Alex HIrsch to voice Glossaryck at this point, it’d be more in character for him.
Butterfly Follies: Proof that someone will always complain about politics no matter what.
Escape from the Pie Folk: Is anyone else disturbed by the fact that he kinda resembles Eclipsa more than Festivia?
Moon Remembers: I was expecting a freakout but was pleasantly surprised
Swim Suit: I’m starting to get a bad feeling about Rhombulus
Ransomgram: Why is everyone in this dimesnion hot?!
Lake House Fever: She’s a good mom
Yada Yada Berries: They missed an opportunity to have a Seinfeld actor guest-star, just saying
Down by the River: I’m glad that she can relax
The Ponyhead Show!: And Ponyhead is offically no longer likeable, can someone toss her into an abyss please?
Surviving the Spiderbites: SpiderSlime is canon proceed to react accordingly
Out of Buisness: How did this place go out of buisness???
Kelly's World: Man, they’re really setting these non-Starco ships up to fail, huh?
Curse of the Blood Moon: Pfft, yeah, sure, Starco won’t be canon at all!
Princess Quasar Caterpillar and the Magic Bell: I think Ludo has the most consistent character arc out of the entire show’s history.
Ghost of Butterfly Castle: Moon, Star is your daughter and Star supports Eclipsa, why would you not tell her?
Cornball: This episode has a heartwarming lesson that I hope more people come to realize
Meteora's Lesson: I’ll take any Toffee scenes I can get
The Knight Shift: I honestly don’t remember what happened n this episode
Queen-Napped: Seriously, can someone please dropkick Ponyhead into an abyss?
Junkin' Janna: The JanTom interaction I’ve been waiting for
A Spell with No Name: These types of episodes stopped being charming awhile ago
A Boy and His DC-700XE: I think Tomco has more ground to stand-on then Starco at this point
The Monster and The Queen: Don Panchito voices Globgor! There’s hope for this show yet!
Cornonation: They’re the best couple/parents/anything around!
Doop-Doop: I honestly think Rick just put Morty through some flux-capacitor or something
Britta's Tacos: Hey, remember these people that we suddenly brought back? No? Me neither!
Beach Day: This feels like a Season 1 episode and it’s nice
Gone Baby Gone: I want a TV show aout them now! Disney, please!
Sad Teen Hotline: Mr. Diaz is way to invested in Star’s love life.
Jannanigans: Hello last minute Janna character development!
Mama Star: So that’s how Mewni came to be--and I don’t care anymore
Ready, Aim, Fire!: Let’s get that finale ball rolling people!
The Right Way: Ok, that spell is actually pretty badass.
Here to Help: There, Starco’s finally canon will you guys just shut up now!
Pizza Party: Moon you idiot you ruined everything!
The Tavern at the End of the Multiverse: Toffee was right all along... I think we all knew that in some way
Cleaved: I expect nothing substanial and that’s what I got

Dean, Cas and gifts
Historically, Cas hasn’t has a lot of earthly possessions. It has even been brought up for us to consider, like in 12x10 when Ishim pointed out that he had:
‘’no wings, no home, just a ratty old coat and a pair of poorly trained monkeys.’’
Ishim was wrong though. Yes, it may seem like all Cas has in the way of material things is the trenchcoat, but that’s not entirely true. It just means that although his possessions are few and far in between, the ones he has, are important and mean a great deal to him. Just look at the pride he felt over his Pimpmobile, and how affronted he got when Crowley or Sam insulted it (RIP pimpmobile, we miss you almost as much as Cas does I’m sure). And then there are the things that Dean gave Cas. In fact I find it very interesting that you can actually track the evolution of Dean and Cas’ relationship, as well the showrunner’s approach to it, by paying attention to the things that Dean has presented to Cas.
Kripke era:
The FBI badge
Tumblr media
This was the first time, Dean and Cas were truly free to spend any time together away from the machinations of heaven. Yes they had a bond and connection that they built throughout season 4, but they were being manipulated most of the time. This episode is important for many reasons, one of them being that it marked when they truly became friends, at least in my estimation. Thus it makes sense that Dean gifts Cas with a badge. It’s a tool, a prop that they need to work the case, but it also shows how Dean is beginning to care about Cas as a partner and a friend. He trusted him enough to support his pursuit of Raphael, and decided to help. That was essentially the way that Cas and Dean’s relationship was handled in the Kripke era, as friends, brother’s in arms and trusted comrades...with a healthy dose of homoerotic ‘’have you forgotten dean might be into dudes?’’ style tension added to the mix.

The badge clearly meant a great deal to Cas. In 9x10, human Cas reveals that he still has it. Think about the implications of that for a minute. Even after everything that happens, after he gets loses his grace and the trenchcoat itself, he keeps the badge that was in the pocket. Because Dean gave it to him.
Gamble era:
The Trenchcoat
Tumblr media
Technically this is a regift, proving re-gifting isn’t always a dick move, but I digress. Dean is returning Cas’ trenchcoat to him, the trenchcoat that he pulled out of the river and carried around with him, after he thought he had lost Cas. It became a symbol of the friend he lost, the guy he couldn’t save. And then Cas returns. He regains his memories, remembers all of the horrible things he did and cannot deal with it, so Dean pulls out the trenchcoat. He reminds Cas of he was to Dean, what he meant to him. He was his friend, a fellow warrior, a man who’s death he could not get over and someone he could not keep himself from hoping, would return to him. By carrying it around all those awful months, and then returning it to Cas in an effort to remind him of the good parts of himself, Dean imbued the coat with a meaning it didn’t have before. The Gamble era, starting with 6x20 and continuing with 7x17, began to make Dean and Cas' feelings for each other, an important and intrinsic part of the plot, and the return of the trench coat had no small part to play in that.
Carver era:
The first blade
Tumblr media
If the Gamble era started to expand on the importance of Dean and Cas emotional relationship, Carver took this idea and ran with it. This was such a crucial moment. Dean exhausted after his fight with Cain, gives Cas the very thing that could lead to his total destruction, in every sense of the word. The absolute trust he places in Cas is evident. The blade is what caused Dean to become a demon in the first place, so of course Dean presents it to the one person he has the most faith in to keep it safe and away from him. Bonus points for hammering it in to Crowley that he’s been screwed over, as the Dean/Cas/Crowley love triangle (dear God that actually happened) was another hallmark of how Carver handled the Destiel subtext.
Dabb era:
The mixtape
‘‘It’s a gift. You keep those.’‘
Tumblr media
And then we arrive at the Dabb era. This was the first time that the word ‘’gift’ was actually used in relation to anything that Dean has given Cas. This moment is interesting in so many ways, of course, but I find it fascinating to compare it to the previous scene I just mentioned from the Carver era. Dean giving Cas the first blade was a gesture of immense trust of course, but also one of necessity. Dean needed to stay far away from the blade and it’s influence. In contrast, there is no alternative motive in gifting Cas with a mixtape. It is a move that has no significance to the wider plot, and seems to exist only to show how Dean feels about Cas, with a very obvious romantic gesture no less. This to me, has been the biggest difference between how the Dabb era has been handling Dean and Cas’ relationship. The scope has become much more personal in nature, and there is a greater focus on how their feelings affect themselves and each other, rather than the world at large. It has also been presented as a much more overtly romantic relationship than any other time before.
The reason Destiel has always been so fascinating to me, is the organic growth of their relationship. It has never felt forced. From FBI badges, to primordial weapons, to Zeppelin mixtapes, these dumbasses have run the gamut of emotionally charged gifts. The evolution of their love and trust for each other is amazing, and who knew this is where these two would end up when they met in that Illinois barn all those years ago.
Honourable mention:
The cowboy hat
Tumblr media
Aka the time Cas indulged Dean’s fetish. This one doesn’t strictly count. But  Cas said:
‘‘Thats why you’re making me wear this ridiculous hat’‘
I have so many questions. Did Dean buy it? Did they buy it together? Did Dean tell Cas he was buying him a cowboy hat? Was it a surprise? This whole scene was sublime. Whichever way it went down, I’m sure Cas still has the hat. Gotta have a souvenir of the day you annoy an ancient cosmic entity (who knows who you love btw) into tossing you back to earth, and the one human you care about most, is so happy, he giddily forces you to role play cowboys and you secretly love it, just because you get to spend time and enjoy yourself with him. But you know, platonically.
