matching onesies with him.
Tumblr media
Books : Dazai | Chuuya | Oda
Shelf : Mixed
Genre : Fluff, domestic
Note : I did this of my own accord because I am, in fact, a softie
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Dazai Osamu
This clingy crackhead.
Dazai will be the first to come up with the idea. It's actually a random one and he asked it so spontaneously, he doesn't expect you to actually say yes.
"Sure, why not?" You agreed.
He's both surprised and elated, and he didn't hide this reaction at all.
"Oh, darling!" He wrapped a hug around your neck. "You always revive my heart with your love!"
You both will be enthusiastic about picking the onesies and agree to surf the net instead of looking from shop to shop since Dazai is under the supervision of a certain angry Kunikida
It almost feels like babysitting. Not that you hate it right? Should you get an identical pair with different sizes? Or complementary ones?
Dazai will call the customer service to ask if they have black crow onesies since crows represent death in some cultures. The response is obviously no and it's obvious that the customer service was confused.
"That's a shame," Dazai whined disappointedly, shoulders dropping. "Wouldn't it be both cute and poetic if we had a double suicide while wearing matching crow onesie? Two achievements in one!"
At that point you wouldn't even be surprised anymore. You will just take the phone away from him to apologise and thank the customer service. You have to convince Dazai that you won't find a onesie of that kind
"Wait, don't tell me," You stared at him. "The reason you want to get onesies is just to wear a matching crow pair?"
"Is it?" He grinned mischievously. "Maybe you're right, maybe you're wrong, but I just want to match with you."
Other ADA members will wonder what you and Dazai were doing, Kunikida the most. He isn't exactly curious, more like suspicious. What's that good-for-nothing Dazai up to now?
Eventually you find a pair of identical ones. Kind of rare designs too! Guess what?
Crabs! In red! The little eyes on the hood!
It will take less than a week for the onesies to arrive in a small box. When it does Dazai will pull out a cutter so energetically Atsushi will think he's going to pull a suicide attempt with it
"AAH! Dazai-san! No!"
Nothing will happen aside from Dazai stabbing the box (while making sure he doesn't cut the onesies inside. he's good with blades, ex Port Mafia and all)
The crab pincers for your hands are soft like mittens and so smooth???? Imagine sweaterpaws but with crab pincer mittens (!!)
It will take everything in you to stop Dazai from wearing it that instant since a client Fukuzawa talked about will be coming. You will need Atsushi's help to take it off him but let's not talk about it
Both of Dazai's legs are already in the onesie too..
It seems like Kyouka wants one. Yosano and Naomi will tell Atsushi to buy the girl one and match with her
When Dazai and you go home together, he will be so excited to wear the onesies immediately. Dazai will be light on his feet.
And when you finally put yours on? Pictures. Dazai will take lots of pictures of you. You're a piece of art and he wants pictures so he can recall the image anytime
"Oh, dearest~ How is it possible for you to be so cute?" He began his dramatic poses, a hand over his head while spinning like a ballet dancer.
You both will take a lot of couple pictures.
"Love, you are so adorable I want to eat you!"
"Is it me who's cute or the crab?" You teased back.
When Dazai makes a troubled expression to answer your question, you will have to pinch him 💢
If you can cook crab soup, wouldn't it be funny to make and eat one with Dazai while wearing crab onesies? He will be so clingy when you do it, like an old school married couple; when you cook, he'll be bugging you while hugging from behind. It feels cozy, don't blame him
You have to be keen with your eyes so you won't miss Dazai secretly pouring ajinomoto to the soup. Get him a healthier diet, I'm begging you.
"Look, the crab is red like us." He pointed at the soup. "And like your face when I do this." He took advantage of you turning your head to peck your cheek.
He will also pinch your nose with his pincer mitten. "Boop!" It's a challenge. Boop his nose back.
You think he's already as clingy as he can be, huh? Wrong. You are absolutely wrong. If he previously sticks around you like a magnet, this time he's glued to you.
Even in the shared living space, he won't let you go. Is it the softness of the onesie under his touch, the warmth, or your cuteness? Well, it's all of them. What then?
Snuggles.
You both cuddle together in the futon until falling asleep together. You feel twice as warm.
He's the big spoon, let him feel the smoothness of the onesie while feeling your heat. And for once, the double suicide joke stopped for the rest of day. That's how much this impacts him, and you're proud of him.
Tumblr media
Nakahara Chuuya
Matching with Chuuhuahua in a onesie? You lucky fella.
You have to be the one initiating it with Chuuya. Baby boy will be like "Eeh?" at first. He's not against it at all but more like, confused. The request is out of the blue
"Come on, why not?" You tilt your head. "It will feel so soft to cuddle with?"
That's it, that's the spell for him to agree
Mans is a Port Mafia executive, you can't go out from shop to shop in a mall to get your onesie with his schedule, so you have to settle with online shopping with this guy too
Only when he has time to spare from beating up people
You will sit together on a couch at the headquarters once Chuuya and you don't have missions. It's a good chance to relax and unwind together too
Chuuya knows best where to find clothes, including onesies. There are so many options! Dinosaurs, frogs, bears, Sanrio characters, Doraemon, Pikachu, Line characters, pandas, unicorns, penguins!! (I should stop fantasizing Chuuya in each of them)
Chuuya will act cool and chill about it at first, but he actually got invested in choosing and thankfully he isn't a crackhead unlike a certain someone
He has a good fashion sense I don't accept criticism, and this side of him will jump out while both of you scroll the catalogue. He nails both street wear and mafia outfits daily, so you can bet he'd pick the best onesies for you both
"This one doesn't suit you," He moved to the next option. "These are the only colours available? Pass.", "What's with the unnecessarily long tail?", "Oh maybe this? Wait, I don't like the stripes."
Of course, he will listen to your opinion too but since you feel he's better at this, you just either nod or shake your head with him
You have to be careful with your words when picking the size (this is much more valid if you're taller) or he'll go "I'm not that short!"
Kouyou and Mori (+ Elise) will catch you both on the couch together while browsing, comfy and all, and Kouyou asked what you two were doing. Chuuya's face will be as red as wine.
When you want to explain, his gloved hand will cover your mouth and he frantically shakes his head, screaming "Don't!" silently.
But alas, while you want to tell him there's nothing to be embarrassed of, Kouyou will take the phone from your hand with a curious grin and a "What's this~?"
Chuuya will just accept fate at that point, growling to himself and all
Kouyou and Mori won't expect to see a catalogue of onesies, apparently. The "Huh," on their faces are hilarious, and Mori will be instantly inspired to get a full set for his Elise-chan, much to her distaste.
While Mori and Elise are going at it, Kouyou will actually share her opinions. Chuuya will crawl out from his burrow of embarrassment and listen to her with you.
"Rather than identical ones, these would be much better. They have variety." Kouyou said. And you both will agree. You both have been eyeing a specific pair anyway
You both will decide to get complementary ones! Chuuya's will be a brown teddy and yours a white bunny! (Try googling Line's Brown and Cony, they're cute you won't regret it) Kouyou will totally agree with the decision.
When the package arrives, both of you will open it together. Chuuya's eyes for clothes are never wrong, the quality is immaculate. So warm and smooth, not a seam out of place.
Imagine the blush on Chuuya's face when you put on the white bunny onesie. The bunny ears on the hood! The fluffiness! His flustered face!
He will be slightly hesitant to put his own on, but when he does, you swear you can die from the cuteness. Want to see more cuteness? Tease him about it, and maybe he'll tickle you down until you're too breathless to tease him.
Chuuya doesn't want to say it explicitly but it does feel really comfortable, it's suitable for winters too.
As usual, Chuuya will be the big spoon. You will melt into his warmth and the smoothness of his onesie, and you can tell he's enjoying it too, from the way he'll drag his hand all over you to feel the smooth fabric
"It's a good thing we listened to ane-san's suggestion, hm?" You asked. "I didn't exactly like the matching penguin pairs."
"Yeah, this isn't bad at all." Chuuya admitted, snuggling his chin into the crook of your neck. "You're so warm."
Tumblr media
Oda Sakunosuke
First off I'm Odasaku's lover before I'm anything else.
When the weather gets cold, it's your idea to get onesies for the kids. They could use some cute onesies to sleep in.
Unlike Dazai and Chuuya, Odasaku will have time to spare to go shopping with you. Being the handyman of Port Mafia has its good sides, after all.
The atmosphere is identical to a date! You both meet up at evening after work, have a simple dinner first, then start the shopping. Shopping for the kids' onesies with him makes you feel like a parent doesn't it?
Odasaku and you will make sure not to pick flimsy, thin, or rough ones. Only the best for the kids. Both of you put your keen eyes to use, examining every considered piece
Odasaku and you will definitely discuss whether to get five identical or different ones. After considering that the kids have different personalities, choosing different pieces will sound more ideal. You both will grant them the liberty of picking themselves.
"We just have to make sure they don't fight over it." Odasaku said.
Lion, dinosaur, piglet, panda, and penguin. That's what you both will choose!
Odasaku is a man who doesn't wear his emotions on his sleeves, so you relied on his eyes when it comes to him. You will see love and sincerity. He picks each piece with careful consideration.
The store clerk will throw an unexpected (yet clichéd shoujo) question at you both. "You picked such good choices. We have sets for adults too, why not match with your children?"
Odasaku and you will widen your eyes. First of all, parents? And match? Both of you stare at each other in confusion. Should you get two get a pair for yourselves?
"Why not?" Odasaku eventually said.
Odasaku's will be a brown dog and yours a white cat (remember that one official art of Odasaku with puppy ears? <3)
Odasaku and you will immediately visit the kids and give them their onesies. Their excitement in picking one for their own made you smile, and you can see the joy in Odasaku's eyes when the kids thanked him and you. He doesn't smile, but you don't need him to just to know he's glad his children love your pick. The way he pats their heads already speaks volumes of love.
Thankfully no kid wrestled to get what they want. You were especially concerned Kousuke will compete with someone
Odasaku will bring a secondhand polaroid he once bought at Yokohama's flea market to take pictures of the kids. You will herd the children to gather for the picture while Odasaku looked for the right angle in the other side of the room.
"Why don't you stay there for the picture too?" Odasaku asked you, half of his face behind the camera.
You kneel behind the kids and put your hands on Sakura and Yuu's shoulders, the ones who stood on the far left and right. That much is enough to warm Odasaku's heart, but when you too, smile for the camera, he freezes for a while to take the sight with his eyes
The picture comes out nicely. You will end up convincing Odasaku to take more but with him in it, together, all seven of you. You would need the curry diner owner's help to take the picture
"Sakunosuke, smile, will you?" You held his shoulder while you both kneeled behind the kids for the picture. He would be a little stunned
He smiles, but it was faint. Nevertheless, you recognise the content in his eyes in the photo, and it's enough.
When it's just the two of you in the living quarters, you will have to remind Odasaku that he too, bought a onesie. He will gladly put it on him since you look so eager, he's curious how it feels too
Your heart stops when he put on the hood with the puppy ears. You will have to fight back the urge to attack him with cuddles right there and then when his confused and innocent face matches the onesie so much!
"You're adorable," You smiled half teasingly, taking in the look of confused Odasaku who looked down at his onesie. The weight of the material felt right, it's like a cozy blanket.
"Try to put yours on," He says. When you did, his heart also missed a beat. The kitten ears on your head! The pure snowy white on you!
Odasaku is a bear hugger and when he hugs you, his embrace will feel tighter than usual. It's no surprise, he likes you and cats, and the way you interacted with the kids that day played tricks on his heart. You hug him back and ruffle his head while he mumbles his thank-you's at you
That night's sleep will be filled with nothing but cuddles of love and adoration. Yes, Odasaku is the big spoon, but you will also hold his arms tighter around you as you both drift into the night, chatting about life.

Welcome Home
ADA!Members x Reader (who is coming back home after a long trip overseas)
➤ Featuring: Dazai, Kunikida, Ranpo, & Atsushi
➤ Genre: Fluff
Pt. 2 here w/ PortMafia!Members
(A/N: My first!! This is just a bunch of scenarios that I couldn’t get out of my head as I was eating breakfast lol. Basically just a bunch of fluff for our boys <3)
➳ Dazai Osamu
Tumblr media
You were kind of disappointed when you walked out of the airport and didn’t see your boyfriend. Maybe he forgot I was coming home today?
You pulled your luggage along as you called for a cab.
You check your phone multiple times but there’s not a single message or call from Dazai.
“Where to, Miss?” The cab driver asked as you got in the back seat. You tell him your home address and lean back, a frown permanently setting on your face.
How could he forget?!
A few minutes passed and you look out the window. You passed by a few unfamiliar buildings and you look around, confused.
“Um, sir?” You call the attention of the driver. “Which route are you taking? I think we went the wrong way somewhere.”
But he doesn’t reply. Instead, he pulls up outside a fancy restaurant.
“What?” You look out the window and saw Dazai standing outside, holding a single rose in one hand.
“I think this is your stop, Miss.” The driver tips his hat to you and you slowly nod in response.
Leave it to Dazai to plan a surprise like this.
“What is this?” You ask as you step out of the cab and approach him, still frowning but secretly happy.
He meets you halfway and offers you the rose, “I thought you would be hungry after that long flight so I brought you here so we could grab a bite first before we headed home.”
“Dazai,” You sighed as you took the rose and weakly slapped his chest. “You idiot. I thought you forgot about me.”
“How could I ever forget you, belladonna?” He grabs your hand and kisses your knuckles. “You’re always on my mind, 24/7.”
You blush and look away.
Dazai chuckles as he holds your chin and turns your head to face him again.
“Welcome home, my love.” And then he leans down to kiss you firmly on the lips, letting you feel just how much he missed you over the past couple of weeks
➳ Kunikida Doppo
Tumblr media
He was waiting for you at the airport, holding a bouquet of flowers and leaning against a wall.
He would look at his watch from time to time, growing a little impatient.
But then he sees you walking out of the double doors, your [h/c] catching his attention.
“Right on time,” He says to himself as he approaches you.
You didn’t notice him at first until he tapped your shoulder when you walked past him.
You turn around, surprised.
He simply smiles at you and rubs the back of his neck as he offers you the bouquet.
“Oh, Kunikida!” You really didn’t expect to see him here. You let go of your luggage and practically throw your arms around him, the air knocking out of his lungs from the impact. You missed him so much.
“I missed you too, Y/N,” He chuckles.
“What are you doing here?” You ask as you look up at him. “I thought we’d meet back at the agency?”
“Well, you’ve been gone an awful long time and I just couldn’t wait to see you.”
“But what about your schedule for the day? This must have-”
“I cleared it just for you.” He cuts you off as he softly kisses your forehead and you couldn’t help but blush.
You knew Kunikida was such a busy man but you also knew just how much he loves you so it wouldn’t be much of a surprise if he would forego his tightly packed schedule just to be with you.
“You’re the best,” You stand on the tips of your toes and peck him on the lips. “I love you.”
“And I love you more,” He says as he leans down and kisses you for a second longer. “Welcome home.”
➳ Edogawa Ranpo
Tumblr media
He would most probably forget that you were scheduled to arrive home today.
“Ranpo-san?” Kunikida says as he approaches him.
“Hmm?” Ranpo turns around in his chair, his mouth stuffed with snacks.
“Aren’t you forgetting something today?”
Ranpo only tilts his head to the side.
Kunikida sighs as he opens his notebook and shows Ranpo the page where he wrote: 12 June, 2:30 pm – Y/N’s scheduled arrival in Yokohama.
Then Ranpo’s eyes grew wide you know that thing he does when he’s shocked or smthg
He shoots up from his seat and almost chokes at the snacks he was eating.
“Oh no! She must be waiting for me!” He looks around the room quickly.
“Atsushi! Where are you?!”
“He’s on patrol with Kyouka today. Why are you looking for him?” Kunikida asks.
“Ugh never mind! I’ll just go to the station by myself.” Ranpo says as he grabs his coat and hurries out of the office.
“Wait! Ranpo-san-” But before Kunikida could finish, he was already outside the door.
“Will he be alright?” Tanizaki asks as he files the papers on his desk.
“I don’t know,” Kunikida sighs. “I hope he at least remembers what line Y/N takes to get home.”
And sure enough, Ranpo gets lost. He arrives at the train station but forgets which line and which exit you usually take.
He’s been asking random people for directions, even describing you to them but they were just as clueless as to what Ranpo was trying to ask.
Little did he know that you have already exited the train and have been standing a few feet away from him. You instantly spotted his cute hat but waited to see whether he could succeed in figuring out how the train system works.
But then you decided to finally make yourself known when you saw him trying to get past a barricade that was supposed to be entered from the other side.
“Ranpo!” You call out to him and it took at least three more tries before he finally spotted you.
“Y/N!” He runs towards you and quickly wraps you around his arms, swinging you around. “Welcome home, baby! I’ve been waiting for you.”
You giggle at his lie. “Ranpo, I’ve been standing here for five minutes now, watching you try to figure out which way to go.”
“Oh,” He puts you down and smiles sheepishly. “At least I tried?”
You giggle again and it’s the sweetest sound Ranpo has ever heard.
“I missed that laugh.” He says as he smiles so lovingly at you. "I missed you, Y/N."
“I missed you too, my love. Thank you for coming to meet me,” You kiss his lips and he instantly melts at your touch.
Makes a mental note to thank Kunikida later.
➳ Nakajima Atsushi
Tumblr media
He was out and about all day, going from one place to another, completing jobs and finishing up paperwork at the agency.
He totally forgot that you would be coming home today.
He was so exhausted that he headed straight back home after he filed the last case.
However, just as he was about to open the door to his apartment, he realized what he had been missing all day.
“Y/N!” He shouted to no one in particular.
He immediately ran back out on the street and made his way to the train station. He was so worried that you would be having trouble with your luggage and would have to go home all alone.
He took his phone out and sent you multiple text messages and even called you but you weren’t answering.
“Y/N, where are you?” He said to himself as he looked at the time. You should’ve arrived by now.
Just then his phone started vibrating and he half expected it was you who was calling.
“Hello?” Atsushi answered.
“Hey, Atsushi,” Tanizaki’s voice came from the other line.
“Oh, hey Tanizaki. What’s up?”
“I just wanted to ask if you have some leftover sha-ke or maybe canned tuna? I’m trying to make onigiris for tomorrow.”
“I’m not sure. But I can stop by a convenience store and grab some for you before I go home.”
“Oh? You’re still outside? I thought you were already home since the lights were on.”
The lights were on? But I didn’t even…
And then realization hit him. He quickly thanked Tanizaki and ended the call before rushing back to his apartment.
As soon as he arrived, he bust open the door, frantically looking for you.
“Y/N?” He called out but there was no answer. He made his way to the bedroom, stopping by the dining area to see that there was food already served at the table.
He opened the door to his bedroom and found you sitting on his futon, neatly folding his clothes that were scattered all around.
“Y/N!”
You jump in surprise as he wrapped his arms around you.
“I’m so sorry I forgot to pick you up.” He whispered.
You giggled in response, “That’s okay, Atsushi. I can manage by myself.”
Atsushi only shook his head and held your face in his hands, “Tell me if you need anything, okay? I’m here now.”
“Hmm,” You pretend to think as you shrugged. “Maybe a welcome kiss from you?”
Atsushi blinked a few times before chuckling at your cute request
“Welcome home, Y/N. I missed you so much,” He says before kissing you on the lips.

AtsuLucy & AtsuKyou
Disclaimer:
I do not hate any of the characters, except Fukuchi Ochi, and I respect every ship BSD has. If I could marry every single one of 'em, I would. This is a post of my opinions about AtsuLucy and AtsuKyou. Also, there are manga spoilers here so I hope you wouldn't mind. I hope I won't get canceled here like how I got in Facebook because I ship AtsuLucy and not AtsuKyou/Shin Soukoku. As I've said earlier, I respect all the goddamn ships and I just want somebody to here my opinions or I just want to simply say it here. If I've said a wrong thing, please notify me. Thank you and take your time reading it!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I am a big AtsuLucy shipper. To be honest, I like how they look out for each other. Here are some of my insights and why do I ship them:
They experienced the same type of abuse (not that I wanted to be abused lol) so there might be times that only the two of them can know what's this and that (okay, is head canons alrighty? I hope so);
Atsushi is a good guy. In fact, he is a cute adorable fluffy little angel but we all know that he doesn't like his enemies like the Port Mafia and The Guild. But when they defeated Lucy's Anne of Abyssal Red, he felt sorry and said that he understands what she feels;
The way Atsushi sympathizes with her despite knowing just a part of her past, I love it. I need more of it. It makes my heart flutter;
Also, the way he approached Lucy after losing to him, is so cute, awkward and soft all in one. Imagine your enemy asking if they can do anything for you, damn Lucy is one lucky girl;
Manga Spoiler, when the ADA was accused of being the nation's terrorist, Lucy made a rallied outside the government just to say that "Atsushi is not evil" and "The Detective Agency is innocent", oh how I wished she worked in the ADA even as a part time (it was Ango who spilled that Lucy did it and maybe the latter didn't expect that);
Atsushi was certain that he saw Lucy after the Three Way War and said that he hopes Lucy isn't teaming up with the criminal organizations (Port Mafia's one of the organizations I guess) to take revenge on them. And please, notice how Atsushi was straight looking at the paper he was holding and then BAM! he saw Lucy, I mean if it's the tiger's ability then otay, I'm not gonna be delulu anymore *sniffs*;
Lucy gave Atsushi the parachute she was saving for her own escape. She let him escape Moby Dick through her ability and Atsushi was worried about her safety for she's gonna be trapped there. He even promised to save her there and he was going to went he infiltrated Moby Dick but sadly, Shin Soukoku suddenly sailed so even I have forgotten that Atsushi promised that he was going to save Lucy. It was funny for me when they got a chance to have a little casual talk when they've retrieved Kyouka's parents' documents;
Manga Spoiler, lastly, Lucy was a great asset when AtsuKyou are heading next to the Sky Casino, where Sigma is. After some events happened in the Sky Casino, Sigma fell on the sky and Atsushi jumps out of the Sky Casino and catches him but he eventually let go of Atsushi. Nathaniel's ability hits Atsushi's tail, which is his support, and he was knocked out. Then my girl Lucy saw it and jumps off the Sky Casino too (like it wouldn't cost her life), she reached out for Atsushi's hand and then voila! Welcome to Anne's room;
Another one is Lucy calls Atsushi by the name "Toraneko" which means tabby cat like how Akutagaw calls Atsushi "jinko." And then I just realized that Kyouka never called Atsushi's name or maybe it's just me?
Anyways, I am itching for Bungou Stray Dogs Season 4 ackk!!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Yes. I did shipped AtsuKyou at the beginning of the series. Okay, lemme just share some of my insights about this ship:
I shipped them when I literally thought she was 16 but it turned out that she's 14. It's the first red flag for me. I know that Atsushi is a baby but Kyouka is literally a minor.
At first I thought it's was fine 'cause they only have 4 years of gap;
But had anyone never thought that Kyouka's behavior towards Atsushi is like Akutagawa's behavior towards Dazai;
Remember that one scene in season 2 where Atsushi was finally caught by The Guild and Kyouka just stood there crying and just said, "Why? Why did you show me the light? Why did you give me hope? Goodbye. Please don't give me anymore light."
Okay, I admit. That was very pathetic. But as I think about it, she had trauma and was literally abused for three years or so, so I really can't blame her. Kyouka was told that she is more suited in the dark and all she knew that time is that she killed her parents with her ability. What a sad life, bub;
When I've read the manga, I've read it after season 2 'cause I was growing impatient for season 3, there were so many changes to the anime like the second picture of AtsuKyou up there. Atsushi was supposed to land on Kyouka's shoulders and not in her lap;
The scene where Atsushi asked Kyouka how's the bathwater was so cute. They looked like a couple to me and it just reminded me that I'm gonna be single forever;
And when Kyouka passed the entrance exam, I was so happy (of course who wouldn't). I dunno why but I saw a platonic relationship in my laptop's screen. (Their "Welcome home", "I'm home" of them looks like they're a married couple tho). But when Kunikida scolded the both of them, I saw siblings. ISTG THERE IS SOMETHING WRONG WITH MY EYES!
To be straight to the point, I think she's either unhealthy attached to Atsushi because he showed her light or she's just overprotective of him (seriously, a 14 y.o girl protecting a 18 y.o baby? otay).
Kyouka is one the characters with a great character development. Some say her character is boring and I can't blame y'all 'cause she have a lil bit of Sasuke's aura, like that one quiet kid sitting beside the window with the face saying that her clan was murded (Kurapika is now drowning in an indescribable emptiness) but Kyouka has a visible soft side so she cute, otay? Tho I wonder where did she learn to drove that car on Dead Apple at the age of 14 'cause my 14 y.o ass can't even step on the gas and brake without shaking in fear. Long story short, despite everything happening on BSD, I'm still a AtsuLucy shipper. I'm still rooting for Shin Soukoku, but AtsuLucy is my heaven.

(Sorry if this is late and also short, I’ve just been. Especially tired recently? I have No Energy and it’s very bleh.) It being a human construct is weird when you think about it, because almost everything about our society hinges on it? But that’s beside the point and entirely too existential for my mind right now. Anyways, the idea of their powers waking up is definitely a cool one! (Nyanon, 1/6)
And I could even see it working along the lines of Dazai’s ability negating whatever erases someone’s memory once you return to the “real world?” And Kyouka sees the corpses and is like “something evil happened here,” and then Atsushi leans out from behind the wall because he’s hello he knows all about that- And then Kyouka tries to fucking stab him like “eVIL SPIRIT BEGONE.” It’s an interesting first meeting. (Nyanon, 2/6)
As for Dazai being the only one to remember- On a funnier note, please consider his “godDAMNIT” feeling when he realizes that he has to work it through Atsushi’s poor self esteem and density that he does, in fact, like him again. Meanwhile Oda and Ango have no fucking clue what’s going on? Dazai since when were you in love??? Alternatively, “YOU FEEL IN LOVE WITH SOMEONE WHO DOESNT KNOW YOU EXIST?!?” if he gushed about Atsushi to them. (Nyanon, 3/6)
Of course he can do it though, he’ll simply demand payment in embarrassing Atsushi with affection and hugs. And aaahhh I can picture them as tiny little kiddos curled up under a window, talking about how unreal it feels- And eventually it becomes about how cute the cats are, and how nice Fukuzawa is, and eventually it’s just chatter like “I wonder what’s for breakfast tomorrow” and “let’s ask him to let us help.” Fukuzawa overhears and almost cries. (Nyanon, 4/6)
Then they make him breakfast in bed and a homemade card on Father’s Day and he actually does cry. I’m sorry I just. Love papa Fukuzawa. But anyways, asdfghjkl I could also see her doing that, ten bucks says Dazai or Ranpo (or Both) taught her. Now all three of them meme together, all the time. Onto the next Concept, though: Consider, every couple of days, the entire ADA sitting down to play one of those tabletop, DnD-style games. (Nyanon, 5/6)
The sheer chaos of how ridiculous some of the characters are (IE- Ranpo or Yosano), and how serious some are (IE- Kyouka or Kunikida), all the way to Dazai’s characters, who are a mixed bag of surprising depth and “are you fucking with me” impressions. Please also imagine poor Atsushi as the DM, because I feel like he’d love being able to put all the fantasy inspiration from books he read as a kid to use. (Nyanon, 6/6)
(im sorry youre feeling real tired recently, though i do relate but STILL. please take care and if youre feeling very bleh maybe talk to your therapist about it?? i hope youll feel better soon!! im cheering on you) also i do understand why time is very essential, the more complex and advanced society becomes the more we gotta be dependable on time
dazai realising he gotta be atsushis personal coach and therapist once more to finally get his feelings through atsushis dense head:
Tumblr media
OH GODDDDDDDDDDDDDDD oda and ango being very surprised when they get to know that dazai loved someone all this time. imagine, they probably thought his ability to love romantically was not even there,
FUKUZAWA CRYING OVER THE KIDS FINALLY TRUSTING HIM MORE AAAAA atsushi and kyouka would be SO loyal though and be his ride or die because of that. fukuzawa knows his coworkers will cave in when dazai or ranpo walks in and tricks/pressures them into giving him free food but if he puts atsushi or kyouka on the counter?? theyre as unshakable as a mountain
ranpo: b- kyouka: no ranpo:  kyouka: ranpo: please? kyouka: ill spit god in the face before i agree to partake in your crimes
ive never played dnd, all i know is that you create your character and,,,do stuff?? very fantasy ish uwu!!

ship: pre-relationship akuatsu / shin soukoku, implied kunikidazai
genre: pure fluff
prompt: yosano hears that atsushi has never had a birthday party and she will not have it
notes: i wrote this for atsushi’s birthday! i love atsushi very much im going to give him the world
Ring, ring, ring.
The sound of his cellphone ringing is what brings Atsushi out of the dream world, feeling around his futon for his cellphone with his eyes closed until he, eventually, finds the damn thing.
He flips it open to answer the call, slowly opening his eyes and beginning to fully wake up.
"Good morning, Nakajima," says the voice on the other end of the call.
It's Akutagawa, which is rather strange as he never calls Atsushi.
"Akutagawa? Hey, you used my actual name!" Atsushi points out happily, sitting up, "Why are you calling?"
"Point it out and I'll continue to call you mantiger for the rest of your life," Akutagawa replied, taking a moment to cough away from the phone, "It is common courtesy to call and send birthday wishes on someone's birthday, is it not?"
Atsushi paused for a moment, "Birthday…?" He says, bringing his phone away from his ear to look at the date, "Oh, I guess it is my birthday, huh… but still, you hate me. Why would you do that?"
"It's complicated."
Atsushi rolls his eyes, "Sure. I'll get the answer out of you later. Thank you for the birthday wishes, though, Akutagawa."
There's mumbling in the other end of the phone as Atsushi gets out of bed, opening the closet door and stepping out. Kyouka had apparently already gotten dressed and left for work…
"Are you seriously embarrassed that I thanked you?"
"No! Why would I be embarrassed by that?"
Atsushi laughs, "Whatever you say, I'll talk to you later."
*Later? When I try and kill you again?"
"Probably. Bye, Akutagawa!"
Akutagawa stutters on the other end, to which Atsushi laughs a bit and hangs up, then continuing to get ready.
--
Atsushi gets off the train to the agency, walking in like everyday, only to see about half the agency in the room.
Dazai has himself draped across maybe three desks, lounging about carelessly as Kenji has Ranpo on his shoulders, Ranpo putting up decorations and banners with Yosano directing him where to put what.
Kyouka, Kunikida, Junichiro, and Fukuzawa are nowhere to be found.
It takes a few minutes for Atsushi to realize what the banner Ranpo and Kenji are putting up actually says, and another minute for Yosano to realize he’s here.
“Atsushi, hey!” She says, running over to him and giving him a hug, “Glad you’re finally here, happy birthday!”
Atsushi blushes for a moment, then smiling, “Ah, thank you Dr. Y-”
“Atsushi!” Dazai calls, sitting up from his spot over three desks, “Didn’t even realize you were here, how are you?”
Yosano releases him from the hug, and Atsushi turns towards Dazai, “I’m good, just, where is every-”
Within that moment, Kyouka bursts through the door with a kazoo, blowing through it half mindedly with a smile.
“Happy birthday,” she says.
Atsushi can’t help but smile back, “Thank you.”
“Food is ready in the coffee shop, courtesy of Kunikida-san and Tanazaki. Just about everyone else is already there.”
Dazai throws his legs over the desks and gets down, “Kunikida is an excellent cook, I assure you, Atsushi,” he says, throwing an arm around Atsushi’s shoulder.
Kenji sets Ranpo down, to which Ranpo sighs and sets the basket of decorations on the ground, “Finally, I’m starving!”
“Ooh, food!” Kenji exclaims, following closely behind Ranpo as they head downstairs.
Yosano ruffles Atsushi’s hair with a smile, “Kyouka-chan told me you had never celebrated your birthday before, we decided to change that.”
“Lesson twenty of being with the Armed Detective Agency, never underestimate Yosano’s ability to mother,” Dazai hummed along.
Yosano glared at Dazai, “Lesson twenty-one, I’ll kill you.”
Dazai laughs nervously.
Kyouka whistles from her place in the doorway, “Are you guys coming or not?”
“Coming!” Dazai replied eagerly, practically dragging Atsushi away as Yosano follows.
--
If the Agency was over the top in decorations, the coffee shop was even worse.
There were streamers and balloons everywhere, some of them had pictures of cats and bunnies drawn on them, which Atsushi could assume was Kyouka’s doing.
Tanizaki was slumped over the bar of the coffee shop while Kunikida was yelling at him, hitting him with a wooden spoon until eventually Dazai dragged Kunikida away from poor Junichiro.
Kyouka had disappeared back into the kitchen, while Yosano sat on the table, having a conversation with Fukuzawa.
Fukuzawa had dressed much more casually than usual, he wore a pair of jeans with a white tee shirt over a green long sleeve. The white shirt had a picture of Atsushi printed on it, with the words “this is my son, I love him,” printed on it in comic sans.
Given what Atsushi has seen on Fukuzawa’s other casual tee shirts, this was honestly the best outcome. He had a habit of wearing various tee shirts with the most random things on it, and owned a myriad of tee shirts condemning pedophiles.
Kunikida eventually sat down at a booth with Dazai, and Atsushi joined them in that same booth.
The booth behind them housed a very tired Junichiro, Ranpo, Poe, and Kenji. Ranpo and Kenji were having a nice conversation, something about cows, while it appears Tanizaki had fallen asleep on a very uncomfortable Poe.
Atsushi couldn’t help but smile.
Eventually, Kyouka and Lucy began to bring out bowls of chazuke, giving them out to everyone before Kyouka took a seat beside Atsushi, and Lucy sat beside Yosano and Fukuzawa.
“Everyone in the agency was well aware it was your favorite dish,” Kunikida explained, watching Atsushi stare at the bowl as if he had just met god, “Kyouka-chan insisted I try to make it.”
“He taught me how to make it too,” Kyouka added on, “Thank you, Kunikida-san.”
A slight smile appeared on Kunikida’s face before Dazai elbowed him in the ribs.
“And you say you don’t even like Kyouka-chan,” Dazai teased.
“Well, I don’t!” Kunikida insisted, elbowing Dazai back as Kyouka laughed.
The agency ate happily, at some point Poe attempted to get Tanizaki off of him and accidentally woke him, resulting in Poe deciding to continuously apologize and occasionally sob about it for the next hour and a half. Yosano threw one of her heels at Dazai after he said something about Yosano being over the top, to which Dazai swiftly dodged, and instead the heel hit Kenji in the back of the head. Kenji remained unphased, however.
By the time everyone was finished with the meal, Tanizaki removed himself from his booth and went back into the kitchen, returning with a two tiered chocolate cake he had baked himself, Lucy and Fukuzawa helping him hand out the pieces.
Fukuzawa ruffled Atsushi’s hair when he passed by him, humming something about Atsushi being cute over him shocked at the fact that Junichiro actually made such a cake.
With that, gifts were slowly handed out. Kyouka had gifted him a white tiger plushie, it was one of the first things she had bought with her own money, so she was incredibly proud of it.
Junichiro, on the other hand, gave him a set of hair clips so he could properly pin back his bangs without borrowing some from him.
Yosano gave him a set of new clothes, a sweater with a cat on it with a set of shorts and knee high socks. She assured him that all of it would fit perfectly, as she had already had his measurements, somehow. Fukuzawa had gifted him a couple different picture frames with photos of Atsushi with Kyouka, Dazai, or some even with Akutagawa. It was a very cute gift, Atsushi had hugged Fukuzawa right after receiving it.
Ranpo and Poe gave Atsushi a simple basic of snacks and such, mostly Ranpo’s doing, though Poe slipped in a couple different recipes and such into the basket as well. Lucy admitted the moment she gave Atsushi a gift that she had never really given or bought gifts before, so she wasn’t entirely sure what to do, though she gave him a couple boxes of bandages and a hand made cat plushie.
More and more gifts went by, and eventually it came Dazai’s turn, to which he handed Atsushi a simple box with a purple ribbon tied around it. Atsushi rose an eyebrow as he began to untie the ribbon and open the box.
Instead was a cropped purple jacket with cuffed sleeves that ended at the elbows, the sleeves could be unbuttoned and rolled down as well. There was a zipper, and pockets on the chest, and under the folded jacket were a couple of different iron on patches.
“So, it’s sort of a tradition from where I came from to give your pupil some sort of item of clothing, usually a clothing item of your own. However, I’m well aware that we are very different in fashion tastes, so I decided to go off script a little bit,” Dazai explained.
Fukuzawa looked at Dazai with a knowing smile as Atsushi slowly began to tear up, quickly rubbing the tears away as he slipped on the jacket, rolling down the sleeves before looking at Dazai with a teary-eyed smile.
“Thank you so much, this is all too much, you guys are too kind…”
“It’s nothing at all, Nakajima,” Fukuzawa replies, “The agency is like a family, we intend to treat you like such.”
With that, the door to the coffee shop opens, and reveals a young woman with her hands up, a bag resting on her elbow. She has medium length black hair, wearing a flowy black, long sleeve dress and a white trench coat over it.
“Don’t shoot the messenger!” She calls calmly with a smile, slowly putting her hands down and making her way over to Atsushi, handing him the gift bag.
Atsushi takes the bag, staring curiously at the woman before Dazai speaks up.
“Ah, Gin, it’s good to see you,” he says with a smile, “Is your brother too embarrassed to come in himself?”
The woman, Gin, nodded, “As you know, Ryunosuke is a coward outside of work.”
“Ryunosuke?” Atsushi asked.
“Akutagawa,” Kyouka replied, softly, “Were you not aware he had a sister?”
“Really? That’s a shame,” Gin replied a frown, “We’ve even met before, many times!”
Atsushi can’t help but look at her in confusion, scanning his memory for some sort of memory of this woman before it hits him.
“Oh. I’m so sorry!” He calls out, to which Gin just gives a smile, followed by holding two fingers up in a cute manner by the doorway.
“No bombs or anything, I promise!” She replied, then leaving the coffee shop and closing the door behind her.
“I feel stupid for not recognizing her,” Atsushi says with a nervous laugh.
“No need to,” Dazai reassures, “It’s her whole thing, she’s just teasing you.”
Atsushi sighs and shrugs, beginning to go through the bag.
The first thing in there is a yellow sticky note with messy, yet cute handwriting.
It reads, “From Ryunosuke Akutagawa, who’s too much of a little bitch baby to give this to you, Jinko-san! Signed, Gin.”
There’s a little heart at the end of the message, and Atsushi stifles a laugh.
Inside the bag is a soft, handmade pastel purple sweater, “Jinko” is neatly stitching over a white patch of fabric towards the top of the sweater. Below it is another sticky note, this time in purple and with much nicer, more elegant handwriting.
It reads, “Happy birthday. You’re foolish and I hate you. Please call more. -Akutagawa.”
Atsushi smiles happily, and Kyouka laughs.
“That’s cute,” she says.
Atsushi nods, “He’s kinda funny. Really bad with people.”
By the end of the day, Kyouka helps Atsushi bring everything home to their shared dorm, and Kyouka falls asleep almost instantly. Atsushi doesn’t keep her up much longer, but instead decides to sit in the kitchen chair, going through his phone when he gets a mysterious text.

The image is Akutagawa sitting in a car with his arms crossed over his chest, pouting. He has a yellow sticky note on his face that says “stupid fucker” in Gin’s hand writing, and a hand, presumably Gin’s, pointing at him.

you’re welcome.
Atsushi smiles, standing up from his place in the kitchen and deciding to go to bed.
As he lays in bed in the closet, he looks at his phone one last time, before drifting to sleep.
I did it, I’ve managed to live to turn nineteen, he thought.

I get so annoyed at how the Mafia is either cute family or cute family+evil Mori in fandom. Especially with Kouyou, Mori and Chuuya. I wish people acknowledged Kouyou likely got her claws into Chuuya in the same as Kyouka, but being older it had a less obvious effect. I wish more people saw Mori and Chuuya seem to genuinely like and understand each other and all 3 drink together. There's also 0 proof Mori sexually abused Dazai or Chuuya but saying that makes you an apologist and "it's canon".
The more we learn about this fandom, the clearer it becomes that it’s time to burn this hellhole to the ground and start all over again because just a couple years ago, things were not like this. Though, it might be safer to just throw away all of Tumblr simply for the sake of not attracting any more butthurt snowflake idiots who bring this sort of shitty approach in. Let the fucked-up rumor of Mori being the only thing wrong with the Mafia die finally.
For fucks sake, nobody’s saying Mori is a good person. But they’re the fucking Mafia! Nobody in there is a good person and that’s fine! Hell, nobody in this whole damn series is an honestly good person! Everything you mentioned in your ask is something our entire team can get behind, some of them are even things we wish we would see rather than just complain about the lack of them.
As for Mori, we actually have another ask concerning this and the author of that one did a great job summarizing why that rumor is bullshit so we recommend waiting around for that one! We’ll get there eventually, we promise.

Now that I’m done, I’ll be reading through all the other works submitted and enjoy eveyone’s hard work!
Find this on A03.
Demon in the Dark
The Armed Detective Agency was as busy as ever, but for once, the detectives were not drowning in paperwork. Halloween was approaching and they had decided to host a costume party. All the staff was invited of course, as well as notable clients and other officials who had worked with the agency before. The office had been entirely decorated for the occasion, ghosts and bats hanging here and there, pumpkins and spiders adorning desks and walls; even a bloody trail had been drawn on the floor of the corridor, leading the way from the elevator to the office’s door. As evening was approaching, the detectives were making sure it was all perfect, dusting a shelf here and there or adjusting a decoration on a desk. Food and drinks would be served at the arrival of the first guests. They had spent the day cooking and baking, preparing all sorts of savory and sweet appetizers and cookies: pumpkin tarts, tiny spider-shaped rice balls, cupcakes topped with orange or white buttercream, cinnamon-flavored ghost cookies and other deliciously evil dishes were patiently waiting to be eaten. Several cocktails, with and without alcohol, had been mixed up, ready to be served in massive punch bowls. Some even had lychees filled with cherries floating in them, mimicking a soup made of eyes floating in blood.
All the detectives had dressed up with their best costumes: Kunikida had put extra care in his vampire costume, even bringing a huge coffin to the office, Kyouka was posing as a puppet master, walking around with a stuffed rabbit wearing a dress similar to hers, Rampo was dressed as a witch, massive bag of candies attached to his broom, the Tanizaki siblings were impersonating the monster of Frankenstein and its wife, Yosano was a spider queen, black dress gracefully undulating around her, Kenji had a forest spirit costume on, with moss and leaves hanging from his little antlers, Dazai was wearing the long cape of a reaper and swinging around a giant scythe, and Atsushi had become a mummy, bandages usually reserved for Dazai now dangling around him, sometimes dangerously getting caught around his feet. Even Fukuzawa had dressed up, impersonating what looked like a vampire hunter, having traded his usual kimono for a more Western-looking outfit.
The first guests arrived with nightfall, and soon the office was filled with animated conversations, loud laughter and the sound of clinging glasses. Music was playing in the background, keeping all the costumed guests entertained. Candles had been put around, giving the room a somehow mystic atmosphere despite the electric lights shining above heads. Most of the detectives were delighting the guests with conversations of past cases. Most of them, because Atsushi was just awkwardly standing in a corner, not really sure how to approach the important people filling up the room. As he was new to the agency, he didn’t have much to talk about and was a little intimidated by the fantastic stories his colleagues were narrating. Kenji, who had noticed him from the buffet, approached him with a sweet smile.
“-Atsushi, why are you alone here? You should go and talk to people, it will be fun!
-But I don’t know what to tell them!
-Don’t worry about it. You can just join in one of the others’ conversations, I’m sure you will find some interesting things to say!” The teenager tried to reassure him, pointing to a small crowd that had gathered around Dazai.
Taking the hint, Atsushi left his corner and walked to his mentor, who was extravagantly retelling their last investigation, clearly including exaggerated details here and there. His scythe was only adding to the dramatic effects in his storytelling. The people around him were holding their breath, hanging to his every words, relishing in the nerve wrecking stories. Atsushi blended in the group, amused by Dazai’s manners. The older man’s gaze fell on him, and with a wide flailing of his arms, he wrapped himself around the tiger, continuing his story.
“-Atsushi! This young kid, here! He was so brave! Oh, you should have seen it, my belladonna!” he reached for one of the women’s hand, who blushed and giggled at the gesture, “He ran to the villain head on, not caring for anything else but MY LIFE, and tackled him to the floor, restraining his moves so he couldn’t touch me anymore. I wouldn’t be here to tell this story if it wasn’t for him!” He rubbed his knuckles against the weretiger’s head, ruffling his hair playfully.
The young man didn’t remember any of these things but he smiled as people were praising him, humbly accepting the kind words. Dazai kept with his tale, sometimes coaxing Atsushi into agreeing to a weird detail here and there, although most of them were obvious lies. The tiger was slowly getting more comfortable with the crowd, easing up into his own conversations. Dazai was glancing at him from time to time, happy to see his junior gaining confidence.
Suddenly, the lights flickered a couple times. A few people around the room joked about a ghost or spirit roaming the building, others were laughing nervously. Atsushi looked around, a little anxious. Nothing happened in the following minutes, and everybody went back to what they were doing. The tiger, still tensed, engaged in a conversation with a client he had met a few months back. After about ten minutes however, the lights turned off completely. The only light left was the ominous glow of the candles casting long shadows against the walls. Silence had fallen around the room, people not daring to make too much noise. A few nervous whispers were running around the crowd.
“-I will check the electricity panel, everyone stay put!” Kunikida’s voice flew up from a corner of the office, and soon he passed through the crowd with a candle in his hand, walking out the find the source of the problem.
Atsushi could feel his nervousness grow. As much as he liked Halloween and other spooky things, it still made him a little jittery to think about ghosts and haunting spirits. He suddenly felt a cold breeze blowing against his neck. A high pitched shriek escaped him before he could stop it.
“-Aren’t you a little jumpy, my dear Atsushi?” Dazai voice was whispering right in his ear; the weretiger could sense the mocking smirk gracing the man’s face.
“-D-D-Dazai! That’s not funny!” Atsushi rubbed his neck, trying to erase the uncomfortable feeling creeping up his skin.
“-But I find it extremely amusing.” His voice was teasing, tone a little darker than usual.
Atsushi’s body stiffed at the words. Dazai was up to something, and he was going to be his victim, he was sure of it. Just as the thought crossed his mind, he felt the man’s hands on his shoulders, making him jump a little. Dazai’s fingers were trailing up to Atsushi’s throat, tugging at the bandages. As he was about to rebuke his mentor, the lights turned on again, blinding everybody around. The weight of Dazai’s hands lifted from his shoulders, and he clearly heard a frustrated sight behind him. Turning around, he saw his mentor running towards the tall blond who was entering the office again.
“-Kunikida! You saved us! I was so scared; I thought a demon was going to attack me in the dark!
              -Shut it, Dazai!”
Atsushi couldn’t help but scoff at the remark. A demon in the dark, he was one to talk! The party went back in full swing. The tiger tried to forget about Dazai and immersed himself in the festive atmosphere again, enjoying the food and entertaining the guests.
Eventually, as night progressed, the office emptied out, people returning home after having enjoyed the thrilling stories and filled their bellies to the brim. Soon enough, only the detectives were left, a little drained from all the socializing. Kenji and Kyouka had fallen asleep on the sofa, Rampo was sprawling on a chair, rubbing his candy-filled stomach. The siblings had just left and Kunikida was already clearing up his desk, while Yosano and Fukuzawa were putting the remaining food and drinks away in the fridge. Dazai was sitting at his desk, lost in thoughts and Atsushi was nibbling on one of the last cookies he had found. Everybody had fun and clients and officials had assured they would ask for the agency’s services in the future when needed. It had been a successful night.
The detectives eventually left the building, leaving Atsushi to close everything. He had stayed behind to swipe the floor a little; they would have a big cleaning day tomorrow, but he had still wanted to get most of the crumbs away before leaving to avoid having any crawling visitors during the night. After he was done with his broom, he checked around the office one last time to make sure no food had been left behind and turned the lights off. As he was about to close the door, a strange noise made his whole body tense. All his senses were alert. A soft scratching sound was resonating through the corridor, as though mice were digging their way through a wall. Atsushi tried to ignore it and closed the office entrance. He put the key in its hole and as he turned it, the sound intensified, getting closer to him. Loud steps were now resonating through the hall as well. Atsushi took a step away from the door as silently as possible. His heart was beating uncontrollably, filling his ears with its frantic pumping. He raised a hand to his chest, clutching the bandages of his costume, hoping whatever was in the room wouldn’t hear the fear inside of him. A small whisper suddenly echoed:
“-Atsushi! I know what you’ve done!” The tiger jumped at the sound. What had he done? His heart started pumping faster, his breathing getting shallower. He tried to reach the elevator, the only light helping him the faint one of the emergency exit sign. The scratching intensified, and the voice started again:
“-Atsushiiiiii! I know what happened! You will be punished for your wrong doing!” Fear made Atsushi’s legs a little wobbly, and as he tried to step back some more, his feet got caught in one of the dangling bandages and he fell back to the floor. He let out a small cry, pain and panic mixing together in his voice. He crawled back a little but was soon stopped by something pulling at the bandages around his legs. The voice, louder than earlier, rose through the air once more, sending horrible shivers down Atsushi’s spine:
“-Atsushi! You have abandoned me! You will pay for this!” The poor man’s mind was filling up with incoherent thoughts, trying to understand what was happening.
He tried to crawl back again but his legs were still stuck. Was he going to die here tonight? As the dreadful thought took over his mind, the lights went on, revealing the tall silhouette of the Reaper standing in front of him, large scythe glistening under the electric light. A loud scream escaped Atsushi’s lips. This was it, this was the end. A sudden clear, happy laugh filled the corridor, stunning Atsushi for a second. The Reaper took its hoodie off, revealing a cackling Dazai, tears almost running from his eyes. Realization soon hit the weretiger and he tried to get up without success, bandages still stuck under his mentor’s feet.
“-Dazai! Stop it already, this is not funny! I was so scared!” The man moved away from him, freeing his legs, but kept on laughing, unable to stop himself.
“-A-A-Atsushi! You should have seen yo-your face!” he managed to let out between giggles.
The younger man huffed, his heart and breathing slowly coming back to normal. Now that fear had washed out of him, he was slowly getting pissed. He couldn’t believe Dazai had played such a trick on him. He knew the man had something planned, but still, this was actually pretty mean. Atsushi gave an annoyed look to his mentor and turned around, deciding to take the stairs instead of the elevator. As he stomped down, he heard Dazai call his name. He didn’t stop until he reached the door downstairs. Running steps were coming towards him.
“-Atsushi, wait!” Dazai quickly reached him and stopped him from opening the front door. “I probably shouldn’t have gone all out like this, but you’re so cute when you’re scared. It’s Halloween after all, I just wanted to mess with you a little.
-I know, Dazai, but still, that was mean! I can’t believe you waited for me just pull this out!” Atsushi turned around to face him, accusing look in his eyes.
“-Actually, I didn’t really wait for you, you almost locked me in the building.” A smirk appeared on his face.
“-Wait, is that what you meant by ‘abandoning you’? Seriously…” Atsushi let out an exasperated sigh, hints of a smile tugging at his lips. He couldn’t remember seeing Dazai leave but hadn’t seen him in a while so he obviously concluded the man had left and was going to close the front door without checking the toilets or anything, which would have successfully locked the man in for the night. He looked up at Dazai, his mischievous look infecting him right away and making him smile back.
“-Okay, maybe I deserved a little scolding. But all that… That was too much.
-I’m sorry, Atsushi. But as I said before, you look adorable when you’re scared, I couldn’t help it.” The young man blushed at the words, gazing at the floor, smile still gracing his lips.
Dazai patted his head softly then walked past him, holding the door for his flustered junior to walk out. He knew Atsushi couldn’t stay mad at him for too long. He had been lucky to see his cute scared face tonight but, most importantly, the look of relief he liked to see on his features so much. It had really been a successful night.

The Armed Detective Agency and Setting People Up
Scenario: Two people at the Agency like each other. A lot.
Dazai: This is a tough one. The best I can come up with is that he pesters one member of the not-yet-couple like he does Kunikida. He’ll only go away if they sit next to the other person.
Atsushi: I don’t think he’d be jumping to get them together just because they look cute— he’s not one to get involved in personal affairs. But if pining turns to suffering, I can see him stepping in. “You never know they like you until you try.”
Junichirou: He might ask one of them if they like the other person, but if they’re not ready to admit it yet, he won’t press. He’d probably back up Atsushi when he feels he needs to confront them.
Yosano: One half of the would-be couple gets mildly injured, and she suggests having the other one treat them. If half A were to protest, she’d say there’s always her...”treatment”.
Ranpo: He was the first to notice the two of them had a thing for each other, but he was content to watch them suffer.
Kenji:  He was the last to know anything was going on between the two of them, but once he learned, he was the most enthusiastic about getting them together. He makes no attempt to hide what he’s trying to do. It often makes them embarrassed. But his smile is so sincere, and he just wants the best for them. You’d have dinner with someone you hate just to make him happy.
Kyouka: She probably wouldn’t say anything unless pushed. And by “pushed,” I mean neither one of them can say two words to her without subtly complimenting the other. In that case, I can see her finally putting her foot down. “Why don’t you tell them that?” The person freezes in their tracks.
Kunikida: “Your pining is ruining my concentration.”

(Dazatsu Week Day 1) warmth of your tears
Day 1 prompt : Sunrise
“No matter how we’re separated inside this darkness Our hearts call for each other with bond stronger than anything Even if you’re laughing, I know you are lonely I want to warm your cold fingers with my tears, I’m by your side.” - Synchronicity (Yui Makino)
Rating : PG Warning : Spoiler up to ch. 70 of the manga
Summary : Atsushi’s loneliness and despair nearly overwhelmed him as he waits for the sunrise, thankfully a visit from Dazai rekindle back the hope in his heart.
A door opened slowly, brand new hinges silent as a young man stepped outside with all the graces of a stealthy cat. His arms shivered as cold winds blew through him, his silver hair dancing from the wind’s playful fingers. Purple and yellow eyes blink slowly, the tiger within him granting sight sharp enough to tear away the dawn’s dark veil. He saw the roof of buildings around him, some shorter or taller than the roof of the building he currently hid himself and his dear companion in.
The roof was empty. Nakajima Atsushi knew that privacy was something but an illusion. He knew that his movement was watched, even if he didn’t know just how many people were watching him. At least Fitzgerald’s Eyes of God would inform the man of his whereabouts, though Atsushi hoped that with Mitchell returned to him the arrogant man would keep his word and focused on helping them finding Oguri rather than watching Atsushi break down.
Atsushi’s hands curled into fists as he shakily let out a breath. It was tempting, really tempting to just let his heart shatter and be swept away with the wind. Yet the tiger, his desire to live, would never let him just lay down and die. No, the tiger wanted to fight. It wanted to crush their enemies to the ground and protect the home they had finally found. With the roars of the tiger echoing in his chest and the presence of the quiet yet strong Kyouka by his side, how could Atsushi let despair claimed him?
With a lot of efforts, Atsushi forced his body to relax. He took a deep breath of crisp air, imagining a faint tinge of salt in the air. He opened his eyes, his sight now clearer without the heavy weight of tension and despair on his shoulders. Far on the east, the sky had started to show it’s myriad colors. Like a painter had stroked their brush against the dark canvas of the night, painting the sky with bright colors depicting hope in the midst of darkness.
Atsushi walked closer to the edge of the roof, hoping that he could at least see the Agency from where he was. The red colored bricks should be easy to spot, but even with the tiger’s enhanced sight, Atsushi couldn’t find it hidden among the tall buildings. His heart sunk at the reminder of the home that he couldn’t return to and he hung his head, the image of the three story building filled to the brim with memories burned the back of his eyes.
“It’s there.” Atsushi’s head jolted upward, his eyes widened in disbelief because he was sure that he didn’t hear anyone coming. Even the esteemed Hunting Dogs couldn’t hide their presence completely from the ever alert tiger. So how did—
“Oh.” A whisper left his lips, along with a breath of relief as his eyes caught the form of the man that had been missing for days. It felt like a lifetime ago since he had last seen his senior, but here Dazai Osamu himself stood by his side, his finger pointed towards something in the distance his eyes couldn’t quite see.
“The Agency. That’s what you are looking for, right Atsushi-kun?” the man grinned widely, like they weren’t far away from the place they were talking about. Like the Agency itself wasn’t torn apart by the hands of Dostoyevsky. Like the man by his side wasn’t anymore but an illusion conjured by his lonely mind, desperate to cling to the safety he always found within Dazai’s arms.
But Atsushi was too exhausted to doubt the existence of the man beside him, so he let his lips upturned to wry smile. “I can’t see it, but if you say so.”
“Aww, are you sure, Atsushi-kun?” Dazai’s voice was like a long forgotten melody he had unknowingly longed for all this time, even if the man was teasing him. “I could be just pointing my finger at random place.”
“I believe you, Dazai-san.” It was easier to smile this time, his eyes gazing straight at those warm chocolate eyes he had loved so much. “You will never lead me astray.”
There was a short pause before Dazai’s smile dimmed a little, yet felt more genuine than his mask of joviality. “You are probably the only one who think so, Atsushi-kun.”
The winds picked up around them, forcing Atsushi’s hair and belt in a crazed dance but barely did anything to Dazai’s hair and coat. There was a pain in his chest at the stagnancy of the sight, a gaping hole more painful than when Gogol butchered his leg. It would be easier to just ignored it and focused his eyes to the slowly rising sun, but the lump in his throat screamed to be let out, to give words to all the pent up emotions within his heart.
“I miss you.” The moment Atsushi opened his lips, it felt like a dam broke out and all of his emotions spilled all over the floor only to be picked up by the wind and whisked away to the sky. “I miss you and everyone. I want to go back to the Agency. I want everything to return to how it should be. I miss Kunikida-san glare and shouting. I miss Yosano-sensei dragging me to shopping with her. I miss Tanizaki-san and Naomi-san being all lovey dovey. I miss Kenji-kun bright smiles. I miss Ranpo-san whining for harder cases and more snacks. I miss Fukuzawa-san attempts to feed the stray cats. I miss Kyouka-chan’s cooking. A-and…”
“Atsushi-kun…”
Atsushi sharply sucked in a breath, yet his lungs still felt empty. He could feel the back of his eyes burned and getting blurry. It took every last remains of his will power to prevent himself from crying. “I miss you. I miss you calling me at ungodly hour in the morning. I miss dragging you back to work. I miss you dragging me away from work. I miss accompanying you on our sleepless nights. I miss your warmth as you embrace me. I miss your smiles. I miss you, Dazai-san.”
There was a whisper of touch just below his right eye. He rose his head slowly as that touch disappeared, catching the way Dazai’s hand moved back. Dazai’s forefinger was wet and it took a second for Atsushi to notice that it was his tears. Dazai’s smile had dimmed even further that it was nothing but a stretch of lips, his eyes void of everything but a chilling conviction.
“You will return to the Agency, Atsushi-kun.” Dazai had never promised Atsushi anything, knowing the fragility of incorporeal binding. Yet, Dazai’s words right now held the weight of a promise and the conviction in his eyes was like blood oath. “Will you believe me?”
Facing those eyes, how could Atsushi ever doubt it? The hope in his heart burned bright, like the sunlight that pierced through the veil of the night. He wiped away his tears, a small laugh escaped his lips as he smiled the brightest he had ever been for the last couple of days. “I believe you, Dazai-san.” Yet Atsushi couldn’t help but disagree of a part of Dazai’s words. His eyes hardened, like gemstone glinting in the light after being thoroughly polished. “But, it’s not just me Dazai-san. We will return together back to the Agency.”
Dazai blink in surprise, an excuse or joke ready on his lips but Atsushi’s stern glare stopped it. Dazai closed his eyes with a sigh, but when he reopened his eyes, Atsushi could see a trickle of warmth had returned to those empty eyes. “Alright, I understand. If my cute kitten wishes so, then I will try my best to do it.”
Atsushi’s glare softened and all that there was left was longing and adoration. “I miss you…”
The first ray of the sun had finally streaked it’s warm color and painted the world with a bright and soft yellow color. Atsushi’s sensitive eyes – his enhanced sight and also because he was just crying – couldn’t handle the sting from the bright light and he had to squint his eyes until he barely able to see anything in front of him.
“It’s alright, Atsushi-kun.”
When his eyes stopped stinging and the colorful dots of light beneath his eyelids finally ceased, he opened his eyes only to see Dazai had disappeared. There was nothing left behind where Dazai had stood, no footprints or even scents that Atsushi could track with his nose. But not even disappointment could bury the warmth of the hope that had risen in his heart.
Atsushi heard hurried familiar footsteps and the door was slammed open by Kyouka, her hair disheveled like she ran straight here the moment she woke up. “Atsushi! Fitzgerald has found the whereabouts of Oguri!”
Atsushi quickly approached her, both of his eyes and smile as bright as the sun itself. “Lead the way!”
It was another sleepless night, caged in that transparent box hovering in the air. But Dazai was used to sleepless night, a night of peaceful sleep was more of a rarity than his usual insomnia. It turned out to be in his favor, facing the ever smiling Demon caged in a similar box just across from his own. The distasteful rat also seemed to be used to nights without a blink of rest, since he kept smiling to Dazai from his box. Dazai was no fool, no matter how relaxed Dostoyevsky looked, he knew the Demon’s sharp eyes never left him and his even sharper brain never rest to scheme for his plan and manipulating everything from his prison here.
Dazai was familiar with the rules of the game, and how to bend the said rules to his own advantages.
Still, even as his brain continued to plot the counter of Dostoyevsky’s plans, his heart was elsewhere. In the midst of all the cruelty and ruthlessness of mind game with the Demon, he had left his heart behind with his sun. He knew that Atsushi would protect it, that Atsushi would keep it with him always, connecting the two of them with a bond forged not from Ability or material things.
Dazai smiled, an empty and cold smile reserved for his enemies as he coyly put his fingers on his chin. It was a habit that he knew Dostoyevsky was familiar with, but only Dazai could feel the warmth left behind from Atsushi’s tears. It was easy to remember the phantom warmth when every other part of his body felt cold. He pressed a kiss on his warm finger, a familiar taste of salt left behind on his lips.
‘I will return to you, Atsushi-kun. We will go back together to our home.’

[Akutagawa/Atsushi Fanfiction] Collide (6/?)
Title: Collide Pairings: Akutagawa/Atsushi, Akuatsu Author: Oniusagimaru Rating:  T Warnings: None Disclaimer: I do not own any of the characters Summary: All it takes is one chance meeting and Atsushi’s life slowly becomes tangled up in Akutagawa Ryuunosuke’s. This has to be some kind of cosmic joke. A/N: Someone needs some comfort.
[10:09 PM]: look! look! I Rolled my first SSR! [10:09 PM]: [PHOTO ATTACHED] [10:10 PM]: (^▽^)
Akutagawa Ryuunosuke [10:13 PM]: Now you can finally take that crappy R off your team Akutagawa Ryuunosuke [10:14 PM]: Also change your damn friend support idol Akutagawa Ryuunosuke [10:14 PM]: Maya’s stats suck
[10:14 PM]: she has decent stats! [10:14 PM]: and her art is cute! [10:15 PM]: WAIT DOES THAT MEAN YOU’LL FINALLY ADD ME??? Σ(・口・)
Akutagawa Ryuunosuke [10:17 PM]: …Maybe
[10:17 PM]: (ノ≧∀≦)ノ
Akutagawa Ryuunosuke [10:18 PM]: You are so goddamn annoying
Atsushi can’t help but snicker as he stares at his phone, because Akutagawa has typed those very same words to him numerous times so now there doesn’t feel like there’s real bite behind them.
After the visit to the Akutagawa’s apartment, the shift in their relationship was very apparent the next day. When the other approached him after class, Atsushi had been shocked. He asked if he was aware of the event going on in the game, to which Atsushi just shook his head, too stunned to answer. With a huff, Akutagawa dragged him to the courtyard where he shoved him onto one of the benches.
Once he sat himself down next to him, he took out his phone to explain the rules of the event. Truth be told, Atsushi was only half listening, so the scowl he received was deserved. The fact that Akutagawa was talking to him out in the open like a normal (although rough) human being really threw him for a loop. Sure, he expected something, but so soon? Akutagawa threatens to leave since he wasn’t paying attention, but Atsushi quickly apologized so he didn’t end up chasing him.
And so began their new ‘relationship’.
Akutagawa would pester him after class about the game, saying that if he wanted to get any better he needed to keep playing. At first, their meetings were limited to the courtyard, but they always seemed to attract confused looks from students and teachers alike. It’s not like he didn’t understand; if he saw two people who only ever argued and brought out the worst in each other suddenly acting civil, bickering, but still civil, he’d be confused as well. So he wasn’t surprised when Akutagawa told him they’d be moving location, adding that he wasn’t a fan of all the unwanted attention.
Okay, he was surprised, but the other’s reasoning made sense to him. Sometimes they’d alternate between apartments since it was the easiest alternative, other times they’d end up in cafes since Akutagawa didn’t like the tea Atsushi made whenever he came over. ‘This is what tea is supposed to taste like’ was what he said every time, and Atsushi always grumbled into his cup because, goddammit, it was good tea. Of course, he never gave Akutagawa the satisfaction of knowing he was right.
When they were at Akutagawa place, Atsushi spent half the visit trying to get on Rashomon’s good side. After a few minutes of staring, the dog always ignored him in favor of curling up near Akutagawa’s leg. It was an amusing sight, especially after learning that Akutagawa originally didn’t like the dog. Gin confused that she found Rashomon in an alleyway a couple of years ago, and her brother had been none too pleased about it. Akutagawa muttered that all he did was teach him a couple of tricks and suddenly the dog was attached to him at the hip, but Atsushi felt like there was more to it than that.
The more time he spent around Akutagawa, the more he began to realize that the other didn’t like showing any range of emotions that didn’t fall under angry or indifferent. Whenever it looked as if he’d express anything outside of those two, he’d scoff, playing it off like it was nothing before averting his gaze elsewhere or covering his mouth. It was the strangest thing, so when not playing the game, he found himself stealing glancing over at Akutagawa whenever he could. If he could decipher what each little movement of the other actually meant, it’d make trying to understand him a little better go a lot smoother.
Plus, he could add it to the paper, even if it did come off as a little…creepy.
One thing above all Atsushi noticed was how Akutagawa changed whenever Dazai was around or mentioned. It went beyond sitting in the front row whenever he gave a lecture, Atsushi had already noticed that. No, it was like…you could feel the shift in the air, and Atsushi couldn’t help but feel awkward whenever it happened. One incident had jarred him so much that he began to question what their relationship was. He’d been waiting for Akutagawa near the building entrance for more than 30 minutes, and since the other was running late he didn’t see a problem with looking for him. The last text he got said that Akutagawa talking with Dazai, so he headed for the teacher’s office with the intent of waiting outside.
As soon a he rounded the corner, he stopped dead on his tracks. Atsushi watched as Dazai emerged from his office followed by Akutagawa, and Dazai turned on his heel to share a word with the other. From the distance he couldn’t hear what was being said, but that wasn’t important…the look Akutagawa was giving him was what mattered. The tension in his face and shoulders has lessened, and his mouth…even if he could only see his profile, the corner of his lips looked as if they were turn upward ever so slightly. It was a smile… Akutagawa Ryuunosuke was smiling, however small it was, and Atsushi could only stare dumbly.
The moment their eyes met Akutagawa reverted to his usual self, as if nothing had happened at all. Atsushi scolded the other for being late, but he uttered not a word of what he saw. For two months they continued their little meetings, and every now and then Atsushi would think about that day. What had Dazai said to make him smile? Or was it the mere presence of his teacher that made Akutagawa feel at ease? It was truly a dilemma: he wanted to know, but at the same time it was probably best if he didn’t.
[10:19 PM]: OH! [10:19 PM] You’re working, sorry for disturbing you ( ´ △ `)
Akutagawa Ryuunosuke [10:20 PM]: I got off work early so it’s fine Atsushi lets out a sigh, thankful he hasn’t bothered Akutagawa due to his own excitement.
In the beginning he really had tried to text the other only when he needed help with the game, but Atsushi slipped up. All it took was one random photo of an alley cat, one absentminded text, and he was sure Akutagawa was going to delete his number for sure. When he received an ‘ok’ as a reply two hours later, Atsushi knew he managed to dodge a bullet. Then Akutagawa texted him randomly at a different point, and it all just snowballed from there. They talked about whatever was on their minds, much to Atsushi’s surprise, and it was kind of nice having someone to text other than Kyouka.
Turning over on his futon, Atsushi texts that he hopes Akutagawa has a safe trip home, to which he is told to stop worrying about him and worry about the leveling the SSR he just got. With a snort, he connects his phone to the charger near his futon, and he tries his best to get comfortable. He has two tests to take in the morning, one of which is for Kunikida’s class. The man is a stickler for punctuality, and heaven forbid you had the audacity to show up late to his class on a test day. Atsushi is not a morning person, so the sooner he fell asleep the better.
All he remembers is closing his eyes, and the next minute he’s jolted awake by the sound of his phone vibrating loudly. In a drowsy haze, he blindly feels for it, fingers fumbling with it once they finally brush against it. The bright light from the screen causes him to hiss, his eyes squinting as he tries to make out the notification that had awoken him. Some part of him hopes it’s a weather alert saying that morning classes were canceled due to a nasty storm blowing in, but he knows that’s too far-fetched to happen in his lifetime.
Akutagawa Ryuunosuke [3:01 AM]: Come to the park Akutagawa Ryuunosuke [3:04 AM]: Never mind Akutagawa Ryuunosuke [3:04 AM]: Ignore this
He stares at the texts, blinking a few times as his mind begins to slowly process them. The first thing he notices is the timestamp…who the hell texts at three in the goddamn morning? With a groan, Atsushi sits up, a loud yawning escaping him as he rubs his eyes. Now Atsushi could very well ignore Akutagawa’s text like the last one instructs, he could curl back up on his futon and decided to yell at the other for once class starts for waking him up.
But…a part of him, the part that cares too damn much about everyone for his own good, won’t allow him to. Concern bubbles up inside of him, because Akutagawa may text him randomly, but he’s never done so this late before. What if something’s wrong? He won’t be able to live with himself if he ignores the text and something happens to the other, so with a sigh he rolls out of his futon. He checks on Kyouka before making his way to the front door, and he sends a ‘I’m on my way’ text before slipping his phone into his pocket. Atsushi hesitates for a second, wondering if he should-
No. He’s already made his decision. Stepping out of the apartment, he locks the door behind him before setting off. The nearest park is about 20 minutes away on foot, and instead of being annoyed about the distance, he focuses on just getting there. He’s never been out this late before (he’s never had a reason to) so of course he’s nervous, and damn near jumps at very sound, no matter how minor. The sudden clatter of a trashcan lid hitting the ground damn near gave him a heart attack, and he almost turns around to sprint back home.
Gripping the phone in his pocket, Atsushi doesn’t stop, driven by the mere fact that he hasn’t received a single message since leaving the apartment. Despite how often the two of them still argue, Atsushi can admit that his dislike for Akutagawa isn’t as strong as before. Did he still get on his nerves? Absolutely. This, however, does not dull the concern he has for him, because Akutagawa might be a royal pain in the ass, but Atsushi believes there’s a decent human being buried underneath all that hostility.
Making his way into the park, he hopes Akutagawa isn’t wandering around and has seated himself at their usual bench. The vending machine next to it is the only reason they took a liking to the spot, though it did provide a good amount of shade during those days when the sun became too much. He tries not to let the eeriness of the park get to him too much, but there’s a stark difference between visiting this place in the evening verses now. Every rustle of greenery makes it look as if something is moving out of the corner of his eye, like the shadows themselves are trying to get him. It’s creepy and just makes him want to run home even more.
He finally slows once he sees a familiar somebody sitting where he’d hoped he would, a nearby streetlight illuminates his figures just enough for Atsushi to see him. Akutagawa has always looked pale, but the lighting makes him look ghostly. Had Atsushi not been looking for him, he probably would’ve been scared out of his mind at the specter he’d come across. But instead of feeling terror, feels a wave of relief wash over him.
“Hey,” he calls out, and the other’s body seems to jerk.
Akutagawa quickly looks up from his lap, his eyes widening as he stares at him.
“You…actually came.”
“I said I would.” Atsushi says as he seats himself next to him. “Besides, if I ignored your texts and something happened to you, I feel like your vengeful spirit would haunt me for the rest of my life…I don’t need that kind of stress in my life.”
Snorting, Akutagawa looks away as he covers his mouth, and Atsushi thinks that’s probably the closest he’ll get to seeing the other laugh. Atsushi wanted to lighten the mood a little, because Akutagawa body seemed so tense he feared the other might snap in half. It helps to some degree, but once the other regains his composure, there’s something hanging in the air.
“So…what are you doing out here so late?” Atsushi asks, and Akutagawa tenses again.
“…Couldn’t sleep.”
He can’t tell if that’s a lie or not, but Atsushi still hums in acknowledgment. Things go silent, and it and with each passing second it becomes clear that Atsushi doesn’t know how to deal this situation. Akutagawa had called him out for a reason, but with so little information to go on, Atsushi can’t fathom why. He could be direct and ask, but Akutagawa doesn’t seem all that talkative at the moment. Not to mention he isn’t sure how much truth will come out of the other’s mouth, so…Atsushi doesn’t say a thing.
After a while he buys the two of them canned coffee from the vending machine, decaf since it’s still so ungodly early. The air is heavy, but it’s not uncomfortable, so much so that Atsushi nods off a few times. He catches himself a second before his head falls on Akutagawa’s shoulder. He mutters a small apology before straightening up, and after a long yawn, he can see the other eyeing him oddly.
“…When…I was in high school…” he hears Akutagawa mutter, and Atsushi feels very much awake. “Dazai use to be one of my teachers…”
Atsushi’s goes stiff. He knows there’s weight behind that name, knows this is something important so he needs to listen carefully.
“I…he helped me out for three years, even when I was being difficult…So, when I heard he accept a job at a local college, I…”
He doesn’t need to finish, Atsushi can piece together the rest. For three years Dazai had been…a mentor? Someone Akutagawa clearly looked up to, and when given the chance to follow that person, he did so. Atsushi doesn’t dare to ask just what Dazai had helped him with, he doesn’t need to know, because Akutagawa had opened up to him of his own volition. That means more to him than getting details. He contemplates what he’s just been told, wonders what he should say next, because this is a situation he never dream up- oh. With a quick pinch, Atsushi confirms that he is not in fact dreaming.
“Is…that why you couldn’t sleep-?”
“No.”
“Wait, then why did you tell me all that?”
“I owe you something since you came all the way out here when you didn’t have to, so I gave you a piece of information for your paper since you’re always fishing for some anyways,” Akutagawa mutters as he rubs the back of his neck.
“I…see…” Atsushi says as he absentmindedly fiddles with the can of coffee in his hands, “I never took for that kind of guy…You know, there’s a phrase for that…”
“What? ‘Blinded by kindness’-?”
“’Hot for teacher’.”
Akutagawa spits out his coffee, and Atsushi blames the exhaustion for his loose lips. Slapping his hand over his mouth, he watches as the other coughs into his own, and Atsushi feels nothing but mortification. Not only has he killed the mode, but there’s a good chance Akutagawa might kill him, so he needs to think of something to say before that happens. From the glare the other gives him, he only has a matter of seconds to do so.
“What the hell did you just say?” Akutagawa growls out once he finally catches his breath.
“I am, so, so sorry, that was completely out of line, but you really made it sound like you followed your high school crush to college.”
Atsushi scooches away from Akutagawa slightly, but it’s the anger in his face that stops him from looking away. No…upon closer inspection, the look on the other’s face isn’t purely anger. The lighting isn’t great, but he can still see just how flushed Akutagawa’s cheeks are. He’s embarrassed, but given that Atsushi has just accused him of having a crush on Dazai, his reaction is understandable. Akutagawa looks away with a click of his tongue, and as he crosses his arms, Atsushi knows he needs to take responsibility and fix the situation. There’s only one way to do so, but he’s willing to go that far since Akutagawa did the same for him.
“Um…throughout most of high school, I was bullied,” he says, eyes lowered as he swallows hard. “I’m not really sure why they picked on me, but they were pretty ruthless sometimes.”
He watches the other, watches for any sign the he understood what Atsushi just did. Akutagawa’s jaw is still tight, but his shoulders begin to sag before he finally uncrosses his arms. The silence that hangs in the air isn’t uncomfortable, it’s more…thoughtful than anything, and for Atsushi that’s fine. He thinks the two of them need a minute to just be, because now they’ve both given the other a taste of something personal. ‘For the paper’ he thinks to himself, but that logic is starting to sound flimsy even to him for some reason.
“…So, now we’re even. I still want to hit you for that teacher comment…” Akutagawa says with a huff.
“That’s fair,” Atsushi mutters into his coffee can before taking a sip.
For a quick second he thinks he should brace himself from a strike, but Atsushi doesn’t feel any real malice behind the other’s words. Akutagawa stands slowly, and Atsushi watches as he tosses his can in a nearby recycling bin. Atsushi takes this as a sign that he’s ready to head home, but he stays seated until the other makes a move. He doesn’t expect Akutagawa to turn to him, an unreadable expression on his face as slides his hands into his pants pockets.
“…Thanks.”
Atsushi feels like the wind just got knocked out of him. He stares wide eyed at Akutagawa who, with no hint of smugness or irritation, has just thanked him. He doesn’t say another word as he turns on his heel, and Atsushi watches his retreating back disappear into the darkness.
He has a lot to think about on his way back home…
