okay but imagine. Thalia Grace, after Jason's death, in a fit of desperation, comes racing to Nico di Angelo, wanting him to summon his ghost, because she just wants to talk to her brother one last time. Before it's too late. Before he reaches Elysium, since the closest she could get to talking to her brother after he goes to the hero's paradise is through dreams, and that wasn't enough for her. Seeing his fragmented soul through dreams is not nearly good enough. She wants the message to reach him. The real him. Not a loomy remnant. She wants to apologise, as she feels her soul being hollowed out with guilt.

She should've looked for Jason, even after their mother told her that he's dead.

She shouldn't have been so busy with the hunters that she would have to cut their brother-sister conversation short.

She should've realised how much her brother craved her attention.

She should've come to the chb meeting that she'd promised jason she'd come to, she shouldn't have made her brother wait like a lost puppy.

The look in jason's eyes when she told him she'd have to leave was etched on to her face. Permanently scarring her soul.

She should've been a better sister. She failed him. She failed to make him feel wanted. She hoped Jason didn't face his death thinking that she didn't need him. Because Gods of Olympus, that would break her.

And she poured all of these gut wrenching thoughts to Nico, who suprisingly listened. Yes. Nico did resent Thalia for being in the hunters of Artemis, the same group that got his sister killed. But listening to Thalia pour her heart out to him, really hit a little too close to home. The daughter of Zeus seemed to echo a young nico, trying aimlessly to summon his sister's ghost to talk to her. They both had the same hollow red eyes, burning with hot tears streaming down, the same crease in the eyebrows, the same flicker of rage over their siblings's murder. At that moment, Thalia Grace looked as unthreatening as the king of all god's daughter could possibly look like.

But Nico was glad, that Thalia, atleast cared about her little brother to this extent. Up until this point, Nico had these lingering doubts if Bianca had really cared about him like this, she had dropped everything to join the hunters after all. Hearing Thalia talk about jason had healed his inner child. Maybe big sisters do think about their younger brothers, no matter how busy they appear to be... So he complied to her wishes. She deserved closure from her brother's death. It would do Jason some good too.

He poured all of his concentration into summoning the son of Jupiter, as Thalia anxiously chewed on her nails, pacing around the murky woods in anticipation. Until a wispy figure with rimmed glasses and neatly cropped hair, appeared in front of them.

"Hello, sis."

Nico di Angelo and Thalia Grace were more or less the same, when it came to wanting to make amends with their deceased sibling.

Except Thalia was the older sister who wanted her younger brother back, And Nico was the younger brother who wanted his older sister back.

Looking back, I wonder how much of Vanitas's choice in this scene is tied to the fact that he was given a choice in the first place.

So much of Vanitas's character is centered around the theme of self-determination (and the lack thereof). He is absolutely deprived of any control over his body and/or destiny at many of the key points in his life, and nowadays he's always desperately grasping at what few shards of self-determination he does have. This is why he freaks out when Roland talks about him being "under the vampires' power" in mémoire 15. It's why he's hung up on the idea of freedom as isolation from others' influence. It's why his main response to being triggered is to do something crazy and cause a scene; it puts him in control of the situation.

All that to say, when Luna destroys Moreau's lab and agrees to take Misha away, Vanitas must be desperate to feel some form of in-control, but I do not think he expects to be given any choice in what happens to him next. He's been conditioned not to expect that despite how much he wants it.

Vanitas certainly doesn't have much agency in how he lives his life as a child, as no kid gets to pick their parents or circumstances, and Vani has it especially rough with the death of his mother hanging over his head. Then his father dies protecting him, and he dies in a situation in which Vanitas is utterly powerless. Horror erupts into his life out of nowhere, and his dad throws himself in front of some fangs, and there's nothing Vanitas can do but watch it happen.

Next there's Vanitas's brief time training as a chasseur, which is one part of his history we know little about, so it's hard for me to say how free his choice was. He may have been pressured into joining, as we know the Chassuers aren't above pushy/manipulative recruitment of children (Astolfo), but I could also see his choice to hunt vampires made as a trauma response to the powerlessness of the vampire attack he survived. "I was powerless, so I'll claim the power to enact violence and make sure they can't hurt me or others again."

Then Vanitas is abducted by Doctor Moreau, which strips him of his agency just about as awfully as anything possibly could.

Vanitas the test subject has no bodily autonomy. He is poked and prodded and experimented on, because his body is an object of science to Moreau, not the vessel of a person with rights or self-determination. His only big active choices during his captivity are the choice to not run away for fear of somebody else suffering and the choice to volunteer in Mikhail's place. The only choices he can make are the choices to stay and throw himself even deeper into his own violation. Even his relationship with Misha is something that just kind of Happens to him. The kid is a force of nature that Moreau dumps on him without his say.

(This isn't Mikhail's fault, as Misha is just a child that wants affection, but having a needy, vulnerable little brother figure suddenly dropped on him in the midst of all that horror couldn't have made Vanitas feel less out of control).

Then Vanitas's torment by Moreau hits its climax, and Vanitas is told that not only has his body been violated by way of pain and torture—even his basic humanity has been and will be stripped from him. He now feels the disgust of having the blood of something he hates inside of him without his consent. And he's about to be killed, turned into a mindless husk of a "living key" instead of a person.

And that's when Luna shows up. This mysterious, incredibly powerful being appears and wreaks havoc on Moreau's lab like an avenging angel, and it agrees to Mikhail's request to take "us" along with it. Everything in Vanitas's life so far has taught him that he is powerless in the face of others' great power. Horrible shit just keeps happening to him forever, and this monstrous person sounds like they've just agreed to carry him off on Mikhail's request without a word of input from him. Of course he doesn't expect to be given a choice.

But he is.

Luna scoops up Mikhail, then they turn to Vanitas and ask if he would like to come along with them as well. After months or years of absolutely all of his autonomy and power being stripped away from him, the most powerful being Vanitas has ever encountered stops and gives him a choice about what he'd like to do next. They give him the option to go off on his own and decide his own fate rather than go along with them. And that's why Vanitas doesn't run away.

These are the images that flash through Vanitas's head right before he gets up and runs to Luna:

These moments are what inform Vanitas's choice. The memories of his father's death and Moreau's final experiment on him—his two most awful moments of abject helplessness.

When Vanitas runs to Luna and accepts their offer, these moments are what he's running from. He's fleeing from his inability to do anything or control his fate. He's running from a life of stolen agency. He's running toward the one adult who actually stopped and gave him a choice about what he'd like to do next.

Vanitas chooses Luna because they, despite having the power to kill or subdue him, give him the freedom to choose to accompany them in the first place. He's drawn to them not for protection, but as an escape to a life where he gets to keep making choices and grasp some agency.

Luna is the savior that gives Vanitas his freedom and autonomy back after it's stolen by Moreau. That's why it's so tragic that Vanitas carries their Mark in the present day. It's undeniable proof that, in their right mind or not, some version of Luna violated the fundamental trust and gift of autonomy that brought Vanitas into their family in the first place.

Luna's bite, both the physical violation and the transformation into inhumanity that it brings, is yet another way that Vanitas is stripped of all control of his body and fate.

my Leon headcanons because i love him and think about him about him constantly, so enjoy my hcs about this man <3

some are silly and random, some are romantic.

-he's such a SWEETHEART.

-omg. he's a sweetie. i can't with this man. he makes me smile and giggle every time i see him. he's such a himbo you guys.

-he speaks italian, english and spanish. since he is from Italy (or rather, his parents are), he's known the language since birth. then learned english when he got to kindergarten.

-i don't think his english or spanish are the best though since they're not his first. he'll sometimes be forget some english words when talking to somebody, so he replaces them with italian ones and his coworks are just like "what???" 🤨

-has definitely said "wow there partner" or "wow there cowboy" when somebody pisses him off.

-he likes both women and men. he has no preference either. i see him as either bi or pan, probably more pan leaning since that's what i am.

-he's literally such a good boyfriend, i can't. even if you too aren't dating and are just friends, he's so sweet. i would gladly given him a kiss on the cheek if i could.

-if you we're to get your period, he'll buy you pads and tampons. if you get cramps, he'll sit on the ground or lay in bed with you and rub your back. he'll go "i'm so sorry baby." :(

-his favorite colors (and color pallet) are blue and black. the blue is meant to represent stylishness.

-he's so dog coded. like just full on golden retriever energy.

-likes lizards. bc i said so.

-goes to NICU and rocks babies with Rebecca sometimes, it makes his life feel somewhat normal and i love that for him <3 also girl dad leon. "girl dad leon!" we all say in unison.

-as a teenager, he had really bad acne, so during re2 and generation he has a skin care routine but never tells anyone (only Krauser knows. he kinda approves, Krauser is all about taking care of yourselves to improve), so he washes his face before bed, takes meds for his skin, and puts medicine all over his face.

-however as his mental heath declines, he'll stop doing it, and his acne will either stay the same or get as bad as it was in teenager.

-also Krauser is HIGHLY against facial hair and forced Leon to shave it. but after he dies, leon stops giving a shit.

the Mr. Zombie then take a few space from both Will Solace and Austin Lake and stood there as Will processing of what just happened. “dude, I think it’s from Nico.” Austin gets a hold of the box and bouquet onto the table as he watch his brother holding onto the letter as if it was an ancient victorian fragile artifact. “whoa, do I need to get Cecil and Lou Ellen?” “nah, stay with me, Austin. catch me if I pass out.”

Cecil pops his stolen lolly. “I don’t know, Will. how are you so calm about a zombie being your transpor of sending messages? aren’t you scared?” Will shrugs. “at first, it does. but now? I’m waiting for his presence! to know what my boyfriend’s doing!”

Lou Ellen gives Cecil a look. “he’s down bad, he doesn’t care about the transport and all this undead things” Cecil laughs. “I don’t know, Lou. he fell head over heels, what do you expect him to not like about Nico Di Angelo?”

If Jason is responsible for the death of Felipe Garzonas then Bruce is equally as responsible for the death of Felipe's father, José.

I've seen so many arguments and counter-arguments about whether or not Jason actually pushed that guy off of a building to his death, but I have literally never seen anyone talk about the very next issue which involves his father blaming Jason regardless. I didn't know this was a thing that ever happened in the comics until I started reading them in earnest.

This event is often talked about as a defining moment in Jason's time as Robin (and it is) but I think this little arc actually says a lot more about Bruce and fan's interpretations of Jason's actions than it does about Jason himself.

Like just look at this panel from Batman (1940) #425:

Batman is on top of a pile of cars, José shoots at Batman, the tower of cars falls down on top of José and he dies. It's sort of an accident but then Bruce goes on to imply that this guy's death is also Jason's fault:

Bruce is saying here that actions have consequences - the name of this issue is even titled "Consequences" - but the way he says it to Jason implies that these are the consequences of Jason's actions. In Bruce's mind, Jason "killed" Felipe, so his father wanted to get revenge and ended up killed as well. Bruce lays both of these deaths at Jason's feet but I don't think that's totally fair to Jason.

Regardless of whether or not Jason really did kill Felipe, José Garzonas believes Robin is responsible. This sets off a chain of events that leads to José's death. And one could argue that Bruce is actually the one responsible for Garzonas' death as he was the one on top of the tower of cars that falls and crushes Garzonas. I find it interesting that Bruce doesn't hold himself responsible for that, even though it's an accident. He seems to blame Jason for this death that he himself had a hand in because he seems to blame Jason for Felipe's death that started this all.

Maybe Bruce doesn't even think that Jason pushed Felipe off of that building and that he really was just "spooked" off. But Bruce still blames Jason because Jason didn't try to save Felipe from falling. No matter Jason's real actions or intentions, Felipe still died and his father still blamed Robin.

If we go off of the theory that Felipe really was just spooked by Jason and slipped off the building by accident, then Jason didn’t kill Felipe so much as he didn’t save him. Which Bruce has done to KGBeast for example multiple times (no seriously there's AT LEAST two separate times when Bruce may not have killed KGBeast but certainly and purposefully left him in a situation in which death was eminent, but whatever I digress.)

I think a lot of people don't know that that story is actually a two-parter and that the next issue after Batman (1940) #424 deals with Felipe's father trying to get revenge for his son's death and he very clearly blames Robin for it.

it’s that day again. where they planned a serious, romantic date in once of every while. where Will’s workaholic ass would finally gave up to the love of his boyfriend and leave the infirmary in the hands of his siblings when it’s summer and where they would treat eachother like a serious couple they are in the hands of love.

at this point, Nico often can’t differentiate whether a date or casual hangout. because in these two-long-years-committing-relationship they have, Nico can’t even remember a day where they don’t stick on eachother and spending the time together.

until once, Nico decided to take him out. on a romantic serious one, the real-type rather than hanging out watching star wars (but if Nico’s being honest, anything they do, no matter if the star wars is replayed thousand times on the screen, Nico would always love the time they have.) just to make Will feel loved, to make Will feel that he’s something worth than just a cheap picnic beside the camp lake or small talk on the campfire.

they eventually take turns, knowing Will is the type to give, he often insisted on him taking Nico out instead. he’s not used to being pampered and getting things without anything in return. but he just want his beautiful, charming, amazing boyfriend to feel loved and worth adored. that Nico’s here won’t leave him nor he see Will as an abandonment and he will stay, just for him.

but even after said two years, for some reasons, the love never dies, it grows, more, like a tree with full grown and still growing. His Will gets more beautiful. in any way, in anything, clothes or none, he’s a beauty, the apple of Nico’s eyes.

Nico would hate to admit, but often he found himself dumbfounded from the starstruck. no matter in what condition, Will unfairly is always beautiful. it’s annoying how this man always managed to look stunning in the most unhinged situation.

Nico has finally arrived in front of Cabin 7, in his usual but nicer outfit from him; black skinny jeans, black chb tee and clean jacket with his stygian iron sword turned into chain accessory. he also wore cologne for better smell, wouldn’t want Will to smell the nervousness out of him as he fidgets on the bronze coin in his pocket. he look to the ground as he finds mythomagic card in his pocket with his other hand and revealing the hades and apollo cards. he keep his posture relaxed with his back from the cabin as he focuses his eye on other cabin.

it’s the edge of spring. a cold breeze waved as flowers and leaves grow. nymphs and satyrs are in good moods. two more weeks until campers start coming and filled the empty cabins.

Nico is pretty pleased with his life so far. a loving boyfriend, a home with a centaur and a drunk god supervisor and a pretty much stable life. this year he stayed with Will again. though he spent the winter in Texas with Will and met the Naomi Solace (let’s not mention his midnight whispers to Naomi about Will as his billy and how grateful Nico for Naomi’s son) and most of the fall annoying nymphs with their date.

“Nico! why don’t you come in instead?” said a sweetly familiar voice from Nico’s back. “I just want to wait for you, you know? you ready yet?” Nico smiled, but wouldn’t turned his head. suddenly dandelions and sunflowers are catching his eyes rather than Will, not that Will’s not interesting, it’s just… complicated.

Will always made him feel new things, new stuff,as if he’s a brand new activator that would made his heart flutter in the directions he didn’t know he could do.

today’s date is simple, actually; going to this bowling diner Will has been yapping about, hits the arcade and do a little dancing together, maybe a little wine tasting if Will want to, a little walk together—if Will’s tired, he can ask Jules-Albert to take a porsche—as they yap together about new facts and life possibilities.

but knowing Will’s giving nature, he would try. he would try with beautiful, ecstatic outfits. Nico often became frustrated with this fact, because with Will’s freckles-ed, tan skin; bushy, dirty blonde hair; those blue eyes Nico can bore and swim forever inside and would never want get out from; those eye-blinding smile with teeth and the sound of his laughter? is like oxygen for Nico. how could Will Solace ever be not beautiful for Nico Di Angelo? never. never will.

to naked eyes, Will’s the same. the same bushy blonde hair and blue eyes, even the same design of green cargo shorts, only this time he’s wearing white cropped tee — revealing Will’s soft stomach with piercing, of course, Nico’s definitely not looking in that direction, haha! Will’s eyes is up there, not on his upper-down line, Nico — with long sleeves of yellow. this time, instead of flip-flops, Will wore his yellow sunflower-daisy converse—matching with Nico’s black hyacinthus’ . they got it custom embroidered to match eachother via Cabin 19’s favor of embroidery.

“is it bad? it’s bad isn’t it? okay, I’m changing.” Will mumbled with reddening face and eyes on shame. “no- nononononononono— don’t- don’t- gods, you’re- I- I just-“ Nico rushed to hold Will’s hand and clasp them together as he stare into eye contact with Will. “hello, there. “ Will’s smug eyes are there while his pink lips whispered. “beautiful- I- uh, let’s get out now?” Will then burst out a laugh. a loud lough as he let go of the hands and crouched.

“Nico, if you keep having that beat of heart, you’ll get arrhythmia. ” Will’s teary eyes from the laughing actually made Nico’s heart stopped a beat. the voice of laugh itself made Nico’s stomach fluttered in skeletal butterflies. what kind of witchcraft is he doing to Nico?

“okay okay, let’s go shall we?” Will Solace smirks at him as he straighten his posture and take a hold of Nico’s right hand with his left hand. the evening sunlight shines to Will, golden hour giving majestic and divine aesthetic. his freckles are like constellations Nico wouldn’t mind counting for hours, days, years. and his ocean blue eyes isn’t helping either knowing it is crystal clear underneath the light, showing the beautiful iris and trap Nico inside.

sure, Nico haven’t gotten that much of growth spurt which makes Will Solace is still 4 cm taller than him, but it makes everything more painful for Nico because he knew he couldn’t get his eyes away. not from Will he can’t, he’s just a man. a human. but when it comes to Will, it’s like worshipping. as if there’s some kind of divine intervention makes Nico couldn’t get over his man’s beauty and Nico Di Angelo, the ghost king, the Prince of the Underworld has never want to kneel before anybody willingly except for Will Solace.

suddenly, he felt a soft lips upon his. tasted like saccharine and addictingly sweet to Nico’s taste. he craves more. he wants to feel that softness and save it all for himself. he wants the world to know how in love Will can make him. as a weak man (only to Will), Nico can only return the kiss, which makes Nico’s inner intestines ruined and mushed like soup. he swear his heart beating like crazy as ifhe just run Olympic running track after they let go of the kiss.

“you can’t stop staring, so I had to bring you down back to earth” Will’s pretty face now only a breath away as his nose brushed his. “come on, let’s shadow travel” said Nico nervously

can’t guarantee if he won’t die young with these arrhythmia whenever he’s around Will. god forbid.
