will byers, the resident sniper and medic - apoc au details under the cut!
---
will's role in the party:
a scouter - stays back to watch over the area during runs w/his rifle and is a backup supply runner if need be. just prefers to scout with dustin and mike
medic - normally takes care of the group regarding injuries and medicine. is very gentle :)
the angel on mike's shoulder -> knows how to placate mike the best if mike's being unreasonable or too harsh
most knowledgable about the infection and how it works -> helps with understanding the patterns of infected people, what attracts infection, etc.
party mediator - rarely ever fights with anyone (mostly with mike haha) and is usually the person people most often go to for a vent or a rant
skills + hobbies:
best with a rifle + second best with guns! -> he practices a lot with lucas but refuses to kill animals
cook of the group along with el (taught her how to cook): rest of the party can make edible food but don't know how to make it taste good
great knowledge of plants and medicine -> jonathan and joyce taught him all they know about it (they are healers)
draws in a sketchbook that mike stole from another group for him: filled with mundane sketches from life and treats it like a daily journal
likes to collect cds and cassettes that he finds around to play in the car (him and max discuss music the most) - fave bands include system of a down, gorillaz, the clash and the cure :) he's an alt rock fan!
quirks / fun facts:
him and lucas have an ongoing competition that started with their aim and is now based on literally anything -> they've been keeping score since they were nine (lucas is currently up by ten and the points are in the thousands)
will shuffles different music in the car and observes who in the party likes what so he can make his own little mental playlists for them!
him and dustin talk a lot about how the infection works. they have some very intense debates about it, especially when it comes to if the infected still have human consciousness or not (will thinks they do, dustin thinks they don't)
--- other notes: canon will, in a short summary, is a very sweet, sensitive, empathetic and capable boy who consistently puts others needs before his own :') of course, i wanted apoc will to share those attributes, with a big emphasis on his empathy, strength, and kindness. first - i wanted him to be a medic to show how he cares about other people and how he helps the people he loves as well. it's shown a lot in the show how much he cares for people and living beings (see: his actions with dart, el, mike, feeling bad for jonathan's hand after he had just woken up, etc.) and him being a healer is very in tune with this behavior. will as a healer is very special to me :') and him learning this skill from his mom and his brother strengthens the theme of family also!
second - him being good with a hunting rifle was to showcase his quiet strength and capability (i'd also like to add that his dexterity on his dnd sheet is extremely high) -> he's a non-confrontational survivor. his strength shines from afar and is put on the backlight, but no one in the party thinks will is weak for his empathy. mike and lucas, in particular, are actually quite jealous of the fact that will is still able to see so much good in humanity and life while being so strong. of course, his connection to the upside down in st is mirrored in this au as well, where he has an innate understanding of how the infection works because of experience, observation and other story spoilers...
looking at the current poll results, it seems im going to be drawing lucas and max next :D see you for that!

he thinks you're the sweetest thing thats ever happened to him!! your caring nature is so alluring to him, you're like a dream. most of his life he's been made fun of, ridiculed and just overall bullied.
but with you, it's refreshing not to be mocked almost 25/8. and you always defend him, it's so nice! he's attached himself to you, he's so clingy.. he never goes anywhere without you. where you go, he goes.
it's so suffocating and annoying not to have any alone time, but you'd never tell him that, you don't wanna hurt your precious boyfriends feelings do you? the guilt would just eat you alive!
you're an angel to him.
the weird glances you get from people as he practically hangs on to your waist are worth it.
he's more possessive than he'd like to think, he gets jealous sort of easily. i mean, he trusts you! you're most loyal person he's ever met! another trait he loves about you, but it's not exactly you he's worried about.
he just doesn't think any guy or girl that flirts with you actually deserves the attention you bring them.
mike can't help but think your kindness is a bit too much, people never actually repay the favour. you practically give the world to others and get nothing in return! it's so unfair,
he'd never treat you like that. you aren't a stepping stool to him. you're so much more than that, why can't you just properly accept his love?
he also loves how calm you are, you can easily defuse any situation. your aura overall is just enchanting, it's usually so hectic on the island, surrounded by people who are polar opposites, followed with chris's sadistic life-threatening challenges, you always make him feel at peace somehow.
and that's something he always longs for.
''god, you're so cute!''

none of the diamonds and other valuable things he's found in his adventures compare to how much you mean to him.
you're a real sweetie, and he loves it!
your compassion has quite the charm, he's found himself with a few scratches here and there after a wrong turn during exploring, and to see your beautiful face up close as you tend to his wounds, he's never been happier.
but lets be honest here, he's kind of a sexist at heart. he prefers to be the ''chivalrous'' one. sure it gets annoying when he doesn't let you do literally anything, but you'd never tell him that.
you're like a pushover in his eyes. so he'd rather cling on to you to ''protect'' you. you obviously don't need protection.. you're perfectly capable. he's seen the way you handle yourself, you could kick someone's ass for him if he asked! he babies you.
but this way, it boosts his ego to see you immediately going to him for help.
and you can really tell someone off if they tried anything, you're so trustworthy. he's honestly obsessed with your company.
he gets quite jealous. he knows you like talking to people and just overall being nice to others, but he can't help it. that person's lucky to even get a spare glance. let alone hear your voice.
''you're a treasure, aren't ya?''

oh you're a darling!
she adores how graceful you are.
you two are for sure the cutest couple on this island. you're the perfect person for her! you're just lovely to be around, she treats you amazing aswell!
she's one of the more tame yanderes. she's alot more gentle around you
she likes to teach you dances and such, sure she has way more experience, but she just wants to be close to you.
her love for you is passionate! she's so obsessed with you, you're always on her mind. and she always finds a way to include you in every conversation..
it's a bit of a problem for mike on the other hand. most of his friends are just tired of hearing about you, but svetlana can't help it! if anything, they should be glad to be hearing about you.
when you defend her, she just swoons!
and don't get her started on your beauty, your kind nature just intensifies it!
''your form is just wonderful!''

damn, you're a doll.
he's always around you with an arm around your waist, or your shoulder. it's kind of a way to let people know you're ''his''. and he just likes touching you
he always takes your basic human decency towards him as a flirt. every time you even interact with him he's filled with butterflies,
he likes how calm you are, and how easy you take his flirtatious comments with just a small giggle. it's so appealing, sure he likes it when you're flustered, for some reason he's attracted to your peaceful-ness.
he was already cocky, but now that he's with you, it's just intensified. he feels so lucky to be with you. but who wouldn't?
he brags about you so often, it's tiring.. but also endearing, you're always the first person he goes to when he has a chance, that's a thing alot of the yandere's have in common, they can't stand to be away from you.
he tries to impress you as much as he can, whether that be with his looks, or his strength, he just wants to hear words of encouragement from you.
he gets jealous pretty easily, even if you're doing something as simple as helping someone, i mean c'mon, only the vito should hear his belˈlettsa's voice! he knows its just the way you are, but jesus.
''ay, can't get enough of me, huh?''

god it irritates him so much, you're so nice and benevolent its infuriating. he wants your attention fully focused on him most of the time, how can that happen when you're too busy caring for some fucking dork that probably wouldn't even spit on you if you were on fire.
he only likes it when you're gracious to him. with the others though? no way.
he's for sure way more violent than the others, he'd actually hurt you if it meant you'd just fall in his arms.
and you totally just foil his plans, he knows if he hurts anyone that even dared to get close with you, they'd still end up with you somehow, except with closer proximity. which is worse!
but that still doesn't stop him. he'll go as far as to kill that person. he knows who you'll go to for a shoulder to cry on..
he also can't help but think your harmless nature is adorable. you remind him of prey, just so innocent and full of life. he thinks the fact that you won't do anything bad is sorta annoying because he finds himself getting scolded by you for nearly murdering someone.
''what, you think they'll give you the same treatment i do? you can't be that stupid..''

Mike understanding Will vs. Mike being oblivious
Evidence that Mike knows what Will is talking about in the van:
Will: "I didn't say it", Mike: "You didn't have to" - You're telling me that after they say this, Will is now going to have to spell out his feelings for Mike to understand? They wrote this line for a reason.
Mike has always been very emotionally aware of Will. We see that this season at the skating rink when it seems like Mike is ignoring him. He lists all these things Will's done (rolling his eyes, etc.). He pays attention to Will. We've seen this in past seasons, too. The only time he was shown to not be aware of Will's feelings was briefly in season 3 was when him and Lucas were making fun of him over D&D. The second Mike realizes he actually hurt him, he runs after him to apologize and he never does this again. Mike was so busy pretending to be all grown up and like Lucas he missed what was happening with Will. But he figures it out quickly and fixes it.
Will: "You make her feel like she's not a mistake". Will says this line when he's giving Mike the painting and pretending his feelings are El's. Mike knows this isn't true. Him and El had a fight in Lenora and El said "You looked at me like I'm a monster". This fight happened a few days before Will says this. Mike didn't forget. He knows what they fought about. He knows he makes El feel like a monster because she told him.
Mike: "I care for you so much". This line is so platonic and self-aware. She wants him to tell her he loves her and deliberately avoids saying it. He knows what she wants him to say. He blurted out he loves her at the end of season 3, makes a confused face after he says it, tries to awkwardly talk to her and explain that he loves her while avoiding saying the word and confuses her in the process. Then when she brings it up later, he pretends like he doesn't remember and says "that was just heat of the moment stuff". She says it back to him and he's confused and doesn't respond. Then he spends the next several months avoiding saying it the letters he writes her. This is again, very self-aware. It would be very easy to write this. Especially if he already said it out loud. He recognized at the end of 3 that he didn't mean it and didn't say it again.
He throws away 2 of her letters that we see. It's implied he isn't keeping them.
He flirts with Will twice in Lenora. Not to mention how flirty they were at the end of season 3 when they are packing up they Byer's things.
Mike's emotional intelligence has been on display several times throughout the series. Not only does he take care of Will but they have many heart-to-heart conversations where he is empathetic and understanding. He listens to Will. But we also see him do this a little with El in season 1. When they first find her he acknowledges that she's scared and gives her a place to stay and food. He didn't have to do this. It shows emotional maturity. He is aware of other peoples feelings. He doesn't register that Lucas is jealous of the time he's spending with her because he is honestly not spending a lot of time with her. I just rewatched season 1. Their time together is limited. So when Dustin calls him oblivious for not realizing why Lucas was jealous, it really just doesn't add up logically with what was actually happening. Which is why Mike doesn't register this. It's not obliviousness. Dustin and Lucas are misinterpreting the situation.
He looks like he's in physical pain giving his I love you monologue to El. He is more than capable of listing things he likes about a person. There is a reason Will calls him the heart. He connects emotionally to people (Will specifically) but he can't do that with El. He knows he is lying. All of his behavior up until this point suggests he knows this.
Him and El aren't speaking at the end and are rolling their eyes at each other. He isn't even attempting to talk to her. If he believed anything he said he wouldn't be acting like this. He would be trying to talk to her or comfort her when she's clearly upset. When they get to the cabin he just completely ignores her and walks ahead and leaves her behind at the car without a second glance back. This isn't obliviousness and a lack of emotional awareness. We see him 2 minutes later talking to Will and telling him she's upset she lost and then comforting Will about Henry. He knows and understands what people are feeling and what the correct responses are to emotional situations. He doesn't comfort El because he doesn't want to and he knows she doesn't want him to. He is aware of this. She's rolling her eyes at him, too. The only time they aren't stand offish with each other is at the hospital. She leans her head on his shoulder in a very Harry and Hermione like way. He lets her. It's what she needs in the moment. He's not confused by this or shoving her off. (Edit: I want to add here that Will is crying after he gives Mike the painting and Mike sees him. Why would Will be crying if he's talking about El's feelings? If Mike believes what Will is saying is actually El than he would have asked about what upset him because it doesn't add up. Will wouldn't be crying over another couples feelings. It only makes sense if he's crying about his own. Mike doesn't ask him what's wrong because he knows. He knows Will just confessed and it was hard for him so he doesn't have to ask. He also can't say what he wants to say with other people in the car so he gives Will space. Also just look at Mike's face in this scene. It says everything you need to know. Especially when you compare it to his face during his monologue to El. He's so happy when Will is talking to him and he never looks at El like that.)
Evidence that Mike is oblivious:
Mike is never actually SHOWN to be oblivious, we just have characters saying that he is. Dustin and Lucas say it in reference to the way that he acts TOWARD EL. Not towards Will. He doesn't respond to El the way that someone who has a crush on her does which is why they say he is oblivious. He doesn't act like a boyfriends is supposed to so they help him. They are realizing he isn't acting that way for a reason. Mike has never be called oblivious in reference to Will.
Finn says Mike is oblivious and clueless. Of course he does. He can't say that he knows what Will is talking about. It's a spoiler. I don't know why people take these interviews so seriously. The actors can't say anything. They frequently say things that aren't true because they were instructed to. Interviews are to promote the show. And the audience is in the dark about Mike's feelings so he can't say more than this. The oblivious excuse is so easy. It allows people to dismiss a lot of other things that are going on. It's superficial. But the show is never what it seems on the surface. They like to show and not tell. So if they are TELLING us that Mike is oblivious, then we need to pay attention to what they are SHOWING us. They have never shown us that he has no idea what's going on. They have shown us the opposite. It's a misdirect. They want people believing he's oblivious so that when they show us the truth it's completely unexpected. Most of the audience has the wrong perception of him. And honestly, a lot of the insistence that Mike is oblivious is coming from people who desperately want him to have romantic feelings for El at some point even if they think Byler is endgame. I don't understand this need for these two to be romantically involved. There is the bare minimum being done with the way they interact. They are being intentionally written to not understand each other or be good for each other and it's been consistent since the beginning. Just because one is a boy and one is a girl and they are cute kids doesn't mean they need to be crushing on each other. It isn't being SHOWN.

thoughts on ceo mike x personal assistant will??
nonny... I LOVE it! especially after those photos of finn in the suit dropped and made the vision clearer jfc......
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I love playing with the richer boy aspect of mike in AU's it's fun! ceo mike would not shy away from playing favorites 😋 there's nothing anyone can do about it, it's a good thing they all actually like will anyway. he's sweet and great eye candy 🤭
now for more thoughts...
firstly I love how you know will would get reported to HR for his outfits by some jealous coworker but mike just says he doesn't see a problem (he bought the clothes)
haven't thought about how they met, all I'm sure of is that mike was taken aback by how protective and possessive of his assistant he felt straight away, it earned him curious looks to begin with until he got it under control
they've christened every surface of mike's office (including against the floor to ceiling windows the one time mike wanted to show will off)
mike takes phone calls while balls deep inside his assistant. sometimes will's bent over the desk and basically edged because mike's focus is in multiple places, and other times he cockwarms mike until the phone call ends
oh btw they're still nerds and ceo mike gets early access to any video game will is interested in, or that they both are and want to play together 🫶🫶🫶 mike makes time to turn off his brain and enjoy his interests
whenever mike's in a meeting and will comes in to drop something off, the visitors are like 😯 and mike tries not to be smug about it. will also pretends like he doesn't show off just a little bit with the way he bends to speak to mike
he doesn't do it in public like a sleaze but ceo mike definitely smacks will's ass whenever will leaves his office and will glares at him as threatening as a bunny can be
ceo mike can be a hard ass and comes across as grumpy sometimes but oh he is very capable of being very soft. his workers think it's just because he must've gotten laid but no, being with will and in love with will levels him out
will does art and gifted a piece to mike for one of his birthdays. needless to say it immediately went up in his office and mike points it out to everyone who comes in. will gets a little emotional someone appreciates his work that much
will always knows exactly when mike needs stress relief and is more than happy to provide it <3 he locks the door, he pulls mike and his chair out from the desk, and either crowds mike against it, hops on the table and spreads his legs, or tugs mike by the tie to the couch in his office
obviously assistant will wears lingerie sets sometimes, at least just panties, and they always contrast with his clothes so that they stand out and drive mike insane when he catches glimpses. mike loooves pulling them to the side when they need to be quick
ending it sappily with: ceo mike's workers notice their boss becomes lighter at some point, he has newfound direction and shows more passion, they like this change and it's all thanks to him dating will and finding happiness amen
I'm still having thoughts but omg let me cut myself off here!!! 🙈

So, how V2 got involved when our lovely rotting Michael had met it in Lust City.
He would dismiss it at first then came the thought that he could use it to his advantage to get Gabriel jealous (and off-guard since he wants him back to Heaven) since he is SO competitive like "I have a much better object that is more intelligent than that rust bucket he calls his love lol" but that plan ends up backfiring on him when he started to develop feelings for V2 due to the date he had set up for them.
That is when the "I tried to get the waiter's attention by blinking in morse code" comes to play for V2. Mike will end up questioning himself about this and looks to Raph for help about but Raph already knew and is like "Nope, you are on board of this train now. Take V2 and be in Gabriel's shoes for once" in a gentle yet BLUNT manner to him. He is in for the lonh haul.
SO in love with this anon your mind......especially because i've also 100% had the thought that v2 absolutely thinks it has the superior angel to v1 lmaoooo so imagining the competition on gabe and mike's end is so funny to me too. but in this scenario i keep thinking like. mike's trying to make gabe doubt his relationship in the pettiest way possible, harping on the idea of v1 being not only obsolete as a model but corrupted in its purpose too, which would traditionally strike a chord with angels considering their own natures and commitments. BUT gabe is deconstructing those ideas and he deeply values his personal connection to v1 as well as its incredible capability, so he vehemently argues in its favor. this would of course lead to him pointing out, in no uncertain terms, how v1 bested its replacement multiple times and it can't be ignored that v2 really was just an attempt to grab at a return on investment when priorities changed - v1 was never meant to be replaced, humans just can't stand lost money (statements he would later definitely feel bad about, since v2 is RIGHT THERE and he just said all of this on pure emotion. he would apologize afterward. a lot lol) but those exact criticisms flip a switch in mike's brain since he really, very much connects with v2 being a replacement that was never meant to be and so before he knows it, he's genuinely defending this little robot's honor and getting pissed off on its behalf. in doing so there's an undeniable, deeply personal link he feels with it, something far from typical for mike...which raphael, unfortunately, fully supports lol "raphael, i cannot fall to the same sins as our brother - council me so that i may be delivered from this evil" "this is so good for you michael!!! congratulations!!!!"

Fuck it, Reddie Barbie Island Princess au.
Richie's just this poor castaway prince with no memories of who he is or why he's even there, all he has is a little busted up trunk full of clothes labeled "Rich". He's grown up on this island with nobody but his animal friends to keep him company, so to keep himself entertained he developed the habit of doing impression and little bits with his animal friends. One day though, a boat docks on the island with a prince named Eddie on board and Richie's whole world gets flipped upside down. Prince Eddie is always going on adventures and running away from his responsibilities because of his crazy ass mother, so he's made it his life mission to travel the world with his royal assistant Mike and study all kinds of natural dangers to keep his kingdom healthier and safer.
Upon meeting Richie Eddie is taken aback by his weird animal friends and their weird human names like Bill and Benjamin, but he tells Richie if he wants to find out where he came from he can always come back home with them. He agrees, but once Richie gets to the palace things go pretty hay wire. Queen Sonia is very dispealed to see this weird uncivilized wild man in her palace, he's flilthy, hqs scraggly trangled hair, no shoes, and the only piece of clothing he has on is a ripped up towl tied around his waist. She seems resistant to let him stay, but even Sonia Kaspbrak is capable of pity sometimes, so she gives him a week to stay and try and find his family. While he's there Eddie also points out to his mom that Richie doesn't seem to be able to see very well and they get him an optometrist and some swanky new glasses.
Not everythings all sunshine and rainbows in this kingdom though, because Sonia is currently trying to match Eddie up with another prince naned Connor, even though neither of them seem interested in each other too much. They just have too many differences, they don't click, Connor would much rather stay home and play games all day and accept his uncle and cousins, errr "flaws", while Eddie is desperate to break out of the chains that bind him. Besides, Connor can kind of tell Eddie likes Richie, but he's not jealous at all. He's actually (besides Eddie) the only person at the palace who is always nice to him and actively tries to help him when he's struggling with fitting in. He's not a bad kid at all, but he does long for some one to really love him, especially since his cousin and uncle are INSISTENT love is for peasants.
Richie tries so very hard to acclimate and be part of higher society, he slicks his hair back, he wears a random ugly suit sonia gives him, he tries to drink tea all proper like, but Butch and Henry humiliate him so Sonia still doesn't accept him. Butch and Henry are really just out here trying to play the long game, using Connor as a way to marry into royalty so they can get close to the royal family and kill 'em all as revenge for something unfortunate that happened in their past.
But don't worry! They get defeated, so Eddie's okay! and Richie even gets to reconnect with his mother Maggie in a really emotional reunion. Hooray!

to me a big byler proof is the fact that in order to ship milkvan u have to almost willfully misunderstand so many aspects of the plot😭 like the characters’ feelings and arcs have to be misconstrued so much in order to justify mike and el being together and believe there’s any kind of hope for a healthy relationship between them. if you actually look at the arcs of the characters, byler is what makes sense!
el has always been somebody’s lab rat, pet, superhero, etc. she has never been given the space to live for herself by anyone other than max, which is why their friendship is so special despite how brief it was. el needs to be single so she can properly learn who she is in the real world, and what she wants and needs. el’s arc will end with her not dating mike, or anyone else. her story is about freedom and independence.
will knows he’s capable of love, knows what he wants and how wonderful it would be to have it, but he doesn’t believe he’ll ever be able to have it. growing up gay in a conservative place without any other queer people to relate to is so isolating, and so naturally will has accepted he will never be able to be loved back. i think robin will be an important part of his arc in season 5, helping him to see that he’s not alone and there is hope for him. it’s possible that robin and vickie getting together will actually be a catalyst for will and mike doing the same once they see that the people in their life would be completely accepting and they don’t have to hide who they are anymore. of course, will could learn that he can have what he wants by dating another boy, but that wouldn’t be a very satisfying conclusion to his story. who could understand what he’s gone through the way mike does? who’s stood by his side through all of his trauma, made him feel safe, cared for, and better for being different? will and mike’s devotion for and compatibility with each other have been built up since season 1, it would be horrible writing to throw that out for will to date some rando. i think it’s possible another guy could come into the picture to further show will that he’s not alone and he has options, which would also make mike jealous and force him to face his feelings head on, but whatever would go on between will and this other guy (my bet’s on mikhail) wouldn’t last long, because being gay doesn’t mean you’ll just date any guy. he wants mike, he loves mike. will’s story is about learning you can have happiness in a world that wants to oppress you, and mike is that happiness will wants.
all of their stories are about rising above your conditioning, what you’ve been told about yourself and your life and your worth, and taking your life into your own hands and living for yourself. the lead female character ending up alone, and the two male leads ending up together? crazy, but stranger things have happened!

what is possessiongate?
several people have asked for a post explaining the possessed mike wheeler theory, so i thought it was about time i made one!
(disclaimer: i didn't originally come up with this idea, but i have thought about it a lot and i made a lot of the connections i'm going to talk about myself)
possessiongate is a theory that vecna is in mike wheeler's head and has been for a while (a year, as of season 4, which is why mike and will talk about that so much even though it doesn't match up with the timeline of will moving away from hawkins). it's not that far off from what everyone knows is going to happen anyway with mike getting vecna'd. the main difference is that this theory argues for mike's actions being directly influenced by that shared headspace, rather than just dying because of it
this is a possible explanation for why mike has been so fickle about whether he's "the original mike" or "the remake" that everyone's been complaining about for the last few seasons; because there's been a long term mind fight going on between him and vecna
foreshadowing
let's look at the first conversation mike had with will that was explicitly about will's possession
mike: you're like a spy now. a superspy. spying on the shadow monster. if you know what he's seeing and feeling... maybe that's how we can stop him. maybe all of this is happening for a reason. will: you really think so? mike: yeah. yeah, i really do. will: what if he realises we're spying on him? what if he spies back? mike: he won't. will: how do you know? mike: we won't let him.
the idea of mike being a superspy is already present here, since mike and will are almost immediately grouped together as spies. will could have talked about himself, as an individual, taking the risk of spying and being a possible liability, but he talked about both of them instead
will tapped into his connection to vecna to get them the "CLOSEGATE" message, and mike's the one who knew will could do that, because it was his idea in the first place. mike is definitively capable of seeing and using that advantage when it's available to him, proving he could fit the role laid out in this conversation
the "crazy together" scene also serves as foreshadowing
mike: sometimes i feel like i'm going crazy. will: me, too. mike: hey, well, if we're both going crazy, then we'll go crazy together, right? will: yeah. crazy together.
will felt like he was going crazy because he was at the beginning of his possession storyline. mike is essentially making a prediction that they'll both get possessed in the future, which will agrees to
mike: el? i've been meaning to tell you something. it's just, being broken up, it's been hard. and... i like that you and max are friends now. it's just, i was so jealous at first, and... and angry. and it's like i wanted you all to myself. and now i realise how unfair that is. and selfish. and, like... i'm sorry. i just, like, i've never felt like this with anyone before... and... you know, they do say it makes you crazy.
mike feeling jealous and angry and possessive about el becoming friends with max doesn't make sense if they're supposed to be his own feelings. mike isn't possessive of el. he doesn't want to hide her in his basement forever. when mike reached out to el over the radio in season 2, he wasn't begging her to come back, he just wanted to know that she was alive. he was fine with the idea of el going somewhere far away and living her life, like she almost did with kali and the ives family. mike doesn't get all prickly when other people pay attention to el or vice versa like he does with will. but if mike can feel what vecna's feeling, and vecna's mad because his plan of isolating and weakening el has started to fall apart, those emotions make more sense
Tumblr media
we're meant to presume ("that's presumptuous of you," says max, after which dustin questions if that's a good thing) that what mike's talking about with el is love, and there's only one character who has actually said that phrase: the lady from the police station after jonathan got arrested. she assumed that he did something stupid defending nancy's honour, but that's not what happened. jonathan beat steve up because steve was talking negatively about will and joyce. if love does make you crazy, it's the familial kind, not romantic love
Tumblr media Tumblr media
(this is from the same episode as el and mike's conversation — both scenes end with dustin interrupting)
even on a simple relationship level, mike and el's isn't what it appears to be. but once el starts asking what mike means, it becomes really clear that he isn't talking about love at all
el: what makes you crazy? mike: you never... you never heard that term... you know, like the phrase, like... "blank makes you crazy," like the word... el: "girlfriends"? mike: no, no, no, no, no... not girlfriends. el: "boyfriends". mike: no! no, no, not boyfriends either. it's like... it's like a feeling or... el: a feeling...
mike thinks he's going crazy again ("blank" makes you crazy... like possession? like "crazy together"?) because of a feeling ("it's like i feel what the shadow monster's feeling") and it's an independent issue from his love life. we're supposed to think it's about boyfriends or girlfriends but mike says that's not it, and despite his best efforts ("you never say it"), that blank never actually gets filled in
following the timeline of season 2, we know that will's possession wasn't successful. this was directly because of mike's actions and ideas — he didn't let the demodogs find them in the lab by suggesting they sedate will, he came up with the idea to put will in the shed and try to get through to him, and he pulled will out of a possessed state multiple times. but didn't vecna already know that nobody would let will go without a fight? didn't he learn that in the first season? isn't he supposed to be smart? what's smart about trying the same thing twice when he already knows it won't work?
vecna was spying on and trying to get something through will. i think that something was mike. who else was there to spy on? who else was constantly glued to will's side throughout season 2 (creating an association between his character and the concept of possession), always within convenient surveillance range? mike's a pain when it comes to his constant foiling of vecna's evil plans. it would be smart to keep an eye on him
and that would be all well and good, except that season 2 is the one season where our team of good guys won — supposedly — with no strings attached. sure, the bit of the mind flayer that was in will escaped, but after bob's death, there were no more casualties until the jump to the next season. it's exactly what they set out to accomplish. what was the point of spying on mike if vecna didn't even use it? even finding out their location near the end was inconsequential, because el dealt with the demodogs in seconds and they didn't attack the house again. when contrasted with the loss of el in season 1, the loss of hopper in season 3, and the loss of max in season 4 (all of which happened during the final episode and the climax of the overall story — the season 2 equivalent of which would definitely not be the escape from the lab, where bob died), i find the happy ending a bit suspicious
when did mike get possessed?
while inside hawkins lab, vecna made will point out the hub as, vaguely, "important". mike said that vecna's immediate plan was to simply kill the group in the lab and vecna insisted that he was lying. the only person vecna could identify was "my friend, mike" (not joyce, who he would have recognised if all he was drawing on was will's memories and emotions instead of his own knowledge). mike's plan then hinged on going into the tunnels and setting the hub on fire, which was, again, suspiciously successful. they had the fake out of something happening to dustin on the way there, but then nothing actually got in their way, which is very weird and untrustworthy considering how the tunnels reacted to hopper poking around (they could have done something like the vines attacking nancy, robin and steve in the creel house). mike's plan went off without a hitch until he got grabbed by a vine on the way back ("you step on a vine, you're stepping on a bat, you're stepping on vecna")
this sequence of mike getting trapped by the vine, concurrent with el trapping the mind flayer and will getting exorcised, is when i believe the possession began. or shifted, i suppose. will's could have been a trick; the obvious possession that they can feel proud of themselves for seeing through and stopping so that they don't notice the more subtle one. what kind of idiot pulls the same move twice, right?
Tumblr media
...ahem. anyway-
the imagery of a vine wrapped around the ankle is similar to max getting grabbed by the ankle in vecna's mind lair (vecna literally being in max's head until she pulled an uno reverse card and walked into his instead), and to el getting grabbed by the ankle in the cabin shortly before losing her powers. these are both internally supernatural situations. what happened to mike in the tunnels didn't look like will getting possessed, but that doesn't necessarily mean there wasn't something else going on. mike's stuff has always been more subtle. vecna wasn't able to stop mike from making connections and urging people into action and generally getting in his way, so he needed a newer, smarter approach in removing this annoying obstacle — he needed to use mike's best qualities (his intelligence, his intuition, and his tenacity) against him
there's about a month between mike going into the tunnels and seeing el at the snow ball. like will said, vecna leaves possessed people alone until they can do something for him, and then they're activated. i believe they showed us this moment for mike
Tumblr media
the rest of his friends have left (will suspiciously pushed into leaving by mike), he's sitting alone, and then he perks up after seeing el walk in
mike's behaviour at the snow ball doesn't really make sense. last time el tried to kiss him (before she left to close the gate), he froze up, not leaning in, until hopper called her away. there was mike's speech to will in the shed before that, where he most likely realised something about the nature of his own feelings. now he's suddenly pushing will away and obsessing over el? it's weird and inconsistent and not in line with what you'd expect from him. yes, mike's a wheeler and wheelers are prone to fits of conformity, but mike also started a public fight with troy for saying something homophobic when he was 12 and he never takes his parents' conformity advice seriously. he thinks being a weirdo is a good thing. this is strange. especially when you remember the mind flayer creepily watching over all of them while mike danced with el
i often see this stuff being interpreted as just mike dealing with growing up and figuring out his sexuality, and that would be believable enough if this was just a coming of age story, but it's not. it's a supernatural horror coming of age story. things like will's ptsd and max's depression are turned into grandiose supernatural threats, but mike dealing with his sexuality in a heavily homophobic era (which we saw as early as season 1 could lead him to suicide) isn't? that would be a colossal waste of potential, and i honestly can't see this show passing up an opportunity like that for a main character to take the more grounded route instead
how would a show like stranger things present forced conformity through a character like mike, who's too headstrong to just conform on his own? by taking away his agency in his own life
why did mike get possessed?
there's the stalker song that played at the snow ball. every move you make, every step you take, i'll be watching you, and so on. while it's been linked to vecna's obsession with will, the lyrics themselves started playing over mike while he creepily stared at el from across the room, languishing in the shadows (what if the shadow monster spies back), as he tends to do. the song playing over mike and el talking, dancing, and kissing, holds the promise of mike and the romantic relationship that's officially forming between him and el being used to keep tabs on her, just like will was used to keep tabs on mike
(if you really want to tie it back to will — because these three character arcs are obviously connected — let's play with a hypothetical for a second: say you're vecna, and you want will on your side. how do you make that happen? you failed to take him twice because his friends and family refuse to give up on him. so how do you make him give up on them? on his life? simple! by making him think that mike, the person who makes him feel like he's not a mistake and who makes him want to keep fighting, isn't an option for his future anymore)
will: and if she was gonna lose you, i... i think she'd rather just get it over with quick. like ripping off a band-aid.
(needless to say, a year-long possession streak during which he's been slowly killing mike's spirit is not "getting it over with quick". mike just getting vecna'd definitely wouldn't be enough for what he's trying to accomplish. if you die that way it's over in a second. will plainly lays out that mike is his weakness — or his strength, which is kind of the same thing — and that going after mike slowly is the best way to get to him. vecna has been in will's head. vecna knows this)
el is arguably at her worst when she's existing in relation to mike as a romantic interest. she consistently does stuff like spy on her friends, lie to mike for months, physically harm max, exclude will, slam doors in hopper's face, and ditch all of her friends in the name of her relationship with mike. el never apologises or even takes responsibility for her actions. mike has done things wrong too, but in accordance with heteronormative gender roles of the time (watched any 80s films recently? the girl sits there and looks pretty, because she's a prize to be won, while the boy chases after her and puts in all the effort), el is blameless while mike gets all the blame. it consumes her character, makes her harder to watch, and most importantly, it makes her easier to kill
the romantic relationship between mike and el clearly had a negative impact. it isolated them, it turned them into brainless little teen drama machines, and both of their individual characters and the group's shared ability to strategise and make plans together took a drastic hit because of it. that's very convenient, isn't it? one season prior to mike and el becoming official, el was a powerhouse who shut a gate right in vecna's face and mike was constantly getting in vecna's way. then they got their happy ending of finally kissing at the snow ball and almost immediately after, they became so annoying and distracting in their relationship that it derailed from anyone in the group attempting to make good plans
by the big planning point of season 3 (the argument in the cabin), not only is mike too distracted by the romantic drama of juggling his relationships with will and el at the same time to come up with an effective plan, but no one else is taking him seriously either. they brush him off and ignore him the second the instant-regret-love-confession (which was probably a result of vecna's meddling, since mike usually keeps his feelings very close to his chest instead of airing them out in front of a room full of people) derails the argument, even though he was really the one making the most sense. mike was neutralised and they moved forward with a stupid decision instead of letting him talk them out of it, which butterfly-effected into the group going on the run from the cabin and everything that happened in the battle of starcourt — hopper "dying" (which is the reason why hopper, el, will, mike, jonathan, joyce and murray weren't in hawkins for season 4), the catalyst for max's death (and therefore the catalyst for the downfall of hawkins), and el losing her powers. that is very convenient for vecna. some of his biggest obstacles are out of the way and for the first time, the good guys only kinda win. that's a huge difference from season 2, and it serves as a stepping point towards their first complete loss in season 4. for a villain who's actively being framed as this manipulative mastermind, i can't believe that was just a series of unlucky coincidences
this approach continues to work into season 4, with mike being shipped off to california to make el cry and to make will miserable while all three of them aren't allowed to directly interfere in the main plot. all the drama mike caused is very suspicious in the season where vecna essentially feeds on teen angst (i wrote a very lengthy deep dive into season 4 mike a while ago, which you can read here). mike is activated to make his first few days in california weird for everyone, to push el back into the monster/superhero mentality (which vecna uses to demoralise her when they face each other), and during mike's monologue (not to be confused with vecna's monologue from two seconds earlier... wait-), which successfully distracted el and kept her from saving max
the characters picking up on it
jumping into season 3 after the snow ball, el and mike are kissing while listening to music again. the music is explicitly mike's pick this time, and it's all about "never surrendering" and "i can't fight this feeling anymore". while this does reflect on his tenacity and inability to give up and how existing in the world when you're different is a constant fight, most songs that feature in stranger things have a deeper meaning (especially when they're diagetic like this), and the music is telling us that mike (who is immediately acting like a different person) is fighting something
hopper (the person joyce went to about will's possession, the person who realised will was "talking without words", and the person who heard the music mike was blasting in the cabin for six months) says that something's wrong with mike, that mike's relationship with el isn't normal, and casually talks about killing mike for "corrupting" el. that's an insane reaction to a teenager being mildly obnoxious, but a fairly reasonable one to the villain — a grown man with a disturbing habit of targeting teenagers and pre-pubescent children — inserting himself into hopper's teenaged daughter's relationship which solely consists of them making out
mike doesn't understand what's happening to him, but he knows something is. his feelings get dismissed too often to make anything of it in season 3, but he gets the chance to think a bit harder about it in season 4, after a lot of prompting from will. usually when mike's freaking out about something, he paces until someone snaps at him to cut it out, but in season 4 he spends most of his panic sessions totally frozen. it's visually different from anything he's had to personally deal with before. he spends a lot of time wondering why he didn't say a mysterious "thing" (which he never explicitly spells out) during his fight with el. that fight was setting up for mike's monologue, which distracted el and let vecna open the gates. mike didn't say what he wanted to say, whatever that was, because he couldn't. he wasn't in control, and you can tell by how confused and off-kilter he sounded while trying to explain his reaction to the roller skate incident
subconsciously, though, mike is aware of what's happening. he's dropped a lot of hints about it ("why am i the bad guy?" is my personal favourite) and when jonathan subtly questions this habit ("maybe it's hidden in the code somehow?" "what you just said makes no sense"), mike shows that he has no clue he's doing it
jonathan actually figured out what was happening to mike back in season 3, almost immediately after setting foot in the basement, because mike exclusively speaks in code and jonathan's great at hearing the things people aren't saying. this is probably the reason why they got put in the same group for season 4
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
jonathan seemed to think that mike's consciousness was gone or heavily suppressed for a while (which is a kind of funny but mostly sad explanation for all that glaring people have been making jokes about — he wasn't glaring at mike, he was glaring at what he thought was the thing that had either killed or was holding mike hostage while wearing his face), but when mike kicked up a fuss while trying to protect el instead of being cool with needless death and murder like the rest of the flayed (who tried to kill nancy and jonathan, like, yesterday), jonathan looked surprised and realised he was wrong
from there jonathan protected mike, physically shielding him from the flesh flayer right along with will (and actually leaving will for a second to make sure he could pull mike back) when it burst into the cabin. nancy and will were talking about the flayed turning into monsters, and jonathan saw that happen to a guy from the hawkins post, so he was probably concerned about mike (this weird anomaly who's flayed but somehow still himself and hasn't transformed into a killer blob monster, for whatever reason) getting too close to the killer blob monster that absorbs flayed people into its creepy hive mind. jonathan also didn't mention what he'd realised about mike to anyone, since el was looking for the flayed so that they could kill them ("maybe i'll just kill mike," says hopper), and nancy was totally on board with that (jonathan gave mike a very weird look when this came up). everyone ganged up on mike very quickly during the argument, so i can see why jonathan would be hesitant to share his findings with the class and risk endangering mike (there's a queer allegory in here somewhere...), whether that's through his friends or vecna doing something to him once the secret's revealed
will and his Upside Down Compass Powers had spider-sense moment after spider-sense moment while in close proximity to mike in season 3: sitting next to him at the cinema, watching him walk away with el on the hill, and while mike's running up to him outside castle byers. will said that he "didn't want to believe it was anything at first" while laying this sequence of events out as indicative of something he didn't want to be true, which is strikingly similar to max's initial denial over billy being possessed
the things will's sensing don't make sense if they have nothing to do with mike. either will's range is huge, spanning all the way to the steelworks while sitting in the cinema with mike (there was a long panning shot across hawkins to show how far away the thing will's supposedly reacting to is), or will's range is so tiny that it takes vecna personally showing up for will to realise that the mind flayer is trying to kill jonathan and nancy a few floors above him while he's in the hospital waiting room. it can't be both
will only noticed what was happening in the hospital when vecna took control of the flesh flayer. that could easily reflect on will getting spooky feelings around mike but refusing to put the pieces together because, in his own words, he would fall apart without mike. it's easier to believe mike's weird behaviour is just about a girl rather than because the man who ruined will's life is in mike's head
Tumblr media
lucas, mike's dustin-assigned best friend, questions and doesn't understand mike's behaviour several times in season 3 (he did that a lot before too, but that's a different brand of Mike Mysteries). the rest of the party (excluding el at first, although she gets there when mike acts weird on the phone and blatantly lies to her) are disappointed, confused, and angry because of how he's acting too. lucas seemed to suspect something when he reunited with mike in max's hospital room, showing the same intuition as when he knew something was wrong with max (reminder: the thing wrong with max was that vecna was in her head)
el seems to fully pick up on and question why mike's so different once they're both in lenora and not distracted by acting fake, in a way she wasn't allowed to before ("but friends don't lie" "yeah, well, boyfriends lie"), because intentionally upsetting her and belittling her as much as mike does at that point is weird behaviour for him. he's naturally gentler with both el and will than he is with most other people, so for him to upset them that much is extremely bizarre
dustin: i told you, joyce has this new telemarketer job. she's always on the phone. mike won't stop whining about it. max: yeah, but this phone's been busy for, what, three days now? that's not joyce. no way. something's wrong. nancy: she's right. it can't be just coincidence. it can't be. whatever's happening in lenora is connected to all of this. i'm sure of it.
el has very good hearing and a habit of hearing mike whether he wants her to or not ("you do realise we can still hear everything you're saying, right?"), so she most likely heard mike and will's argument at rink-o-mania (especially since she heard angela's group perfectly seconds after the boys walked away). a few days later, after vecna told nancy to send el a message, el went into the void and heard dustin say that mike's actually been calling will an annoying amount but wasn't able to get through, which mike definitely didn't mention when will blamed mike for never calling. el knows this is weird because mike told her that he called her every night for almost a year with no shame, and the rink-o-mania fight was so ridiculously public and coupley that it wouldn't make sense for mike to suddenly be holding back. from there, prompted by max and nancy's refusal to accept the easy answer, el figured it out, just like when she knew that billy was "wrong" while max refused to see it
why didn't anyone notice sooner?
this is kind of a frustrating question for me. the real answer is that mike simply needs to be in trouble for season 5 to work (which is why characters like joyce and dustin are being kept away from mike for large stretches of time when he's acting strange — they're too intelligent and too active to not figure it out and help him too early). the answer that makes me angry is that mike wheeler is haunted by double standards. nobody would ever leave will alone to fight off possession for a year (and counting — there's probably going to be a time skip in season 5) like the characters who know about this have done with mike. it's impressive that he can hold out for as long as he has, but that doesn't mean he doesn't need outside help (although i suspect that's the point)
it seems to have something to do with the superspy angle. anything mike knows, vecna knows. if mike doesn't know about the possession then vecna won't be expecting to have to guard things from him as closely as he would from someone like will, who's consciously aware of the connection between them while mike's operating on subconscious knowledge. it can be turned into a tactical advantage, which is kind of mike's whole thing. as long as the others are careful with what they let him know, this might be the key to getting max back and/or killing vecna for good. mike did say a connection like this could be how they stop him, and it looks like he's going to keep working with will to do that, paying off the "crazy together" prediction
hopper knows something about mike that he promised to share with joyce (and the audience) during their date. joyce didn't show up and it still hasn't happened yet (although they keep reminding us of it). whatever information hopper has might explain why he didn't do anything in the six months between season 2 and season 3, if he really did figure out what was happening to mike that quickly
jonathan also promised to tell nancy everything, which probably has something to do with what he noticed about mike during their side quest. jonathan witnessed the monologue, so he has a solid understanding of how this specific style of possession works now. he also has the motivation to actually do something about it after finding out that will is in love with mike and couldn't handle losing him. jonathan told will that everything would be okay, and making things okay for will means fixing mike
for everyone else, mike's weirdness is predominantly blamed on his relationship with el (in an "annoying shallow teen romance, look no deeper, nothing to see here" way), or his feelings for will, if you're looking at it from a fandom perspective. but both mike and dustin call that bullshit. mike calls the way max frames everything about his motivations and his... whole character, really, around his romance with el, bullshit (max also deliberately does this when lucas tells her he knows something's wrong, obviously deflecting from the real issue). there's a not insignificant amount of categorically defining mike as not just a love interest, because that diminishment of his character is what the writers (and vecna) are banking on to hide what's really going on with him, but they also have to include enough clues that it doesn't come out of nowhere
Tumblr media Tumblr media
mike prioritises other people over himself as a defence mechanism against his abandonment issues (because his family stopped paying attention to him around the time holly was born, making him think he needs to offer people something so they won't lose interest in him and leave him behind). the narrative can't validate that by presenting his habit of framing himself as someone who's useful and needed solely because he's the therapist friend, not because he's a person who's deeply cared for and deserving of help, like it's objectively true, so they're going to have to challenge it instead. saving him from possession, where the only thing to gain is mike's continued existence, would be a good way of accomplishing that
the timeline
mike is making things difficult by having a ridiculous amount of willpower, so it takes a bit of work to figure out when he's mike and when he's not mike. i don't have the whole thing figured out but sometimes, he just tells you!
Tumblr media
this is from when he first entered the tunnels. nothing's messed with him yet, so he's at 100%
in early season 3, hopper says that mike has spent every single day for the past six months in the cabin with el, implicitly ignoring his friends (you know, the people he would and has jumped off a cliff for? those friends?). mike, from what the others have said about his behaviour, has spent those six months losing. "he likes it cold", and the months between december and july are mostly cold ones in this show's setting. this lends significance to season 3 taking place in the summer
hopper tells mike that something's wrong, but because he lied to get mike into the car (away from el) in the first place, mike doesn't listen to him and calls him crazy (you know, the thing joyce and will and nancy and even mike himself have been called whenever they had an out there theory? a theory that always turns out to be right?). hopper's scheme is successful in granting el and mike some space, but it's not until will gets sick of mike not acting like himself that mike actually snaps out of it. vecna was distracted by the other flayed at the time, as he'd recently put his plan of building the flesh flayer into action, as well as by what el and max showing up meant for his first direct interaction with el since she lost her memories. he was probably underestimating mike after six months of success and failing to pay him much attention, which continues into the next episode. the sauna test demonstrates mike's ability to fight back (and possibly hints towards the existence of some kind of mental shield or ability to hide, since billy had no idea what they were planning and even vecna looked surprised when mike snuck up on him with the bat), and confirms that mike and el both fighting for each other is vital to their survival
i believe mike is in control a lot more often for the rest of the season, but he still has to deal with the consequences of what vecna's already done through him. mike's definitely himself in the season 3 epilogue (i think he reclaimed something during the battle of starcourt, particularly when literally escaping from the mind flayer with max and el's help), but he cares about el's feelings and the whole situation is super confusing from his perspective ("i don't really remember... what did i say, exactly?"), so the getting back together thing kinda just... happens to him. mike's unresponsiveness during the kiss is especially disturbing in the context of this theory, where he's literally had no agency throughout their entire relationship (not that i'm blaming el; she doesn't know yet, she's still young and very sheltered so probably not that informed about consent, and she's been tricked by this whole thing too — their makeout sessions at the start of the season were difficult to watch for a reason — but like. yikes.)
Tumblr media
mike immediately gets called "a shitty knock-off" when he gets to california, where he's at a disadvantage because of the 70/30 split with vecna ("he's been telling us his plan this whole time"). vecna having to focus on mike at first explains the inconsistent pattern of the murders in hawkins that robin couldn't decipher. vecna backed off once el left to get her powers back, and mike immediately did the most mike thing ever: got into a verbal sparring match with government agents ("so, what, we're just supposed to trust that you're the good guys? whoever you are?")
will reminds mike of who he is in the painting scene, because things have gotten so muddled in mike's head that he doesn't know anymore. this draws a parallel to mike's speech in the shed when will was possessed
Tumblr media
mike reunites with el ("is it really you?" "it's me. i'm here" — that's literally the most loved one fighting possession dialogue i've ever heard). there's vecna's ridiculously long monologue, during which he confirms the whole mastermind angle, then he tells el to pay attention right before mike gets activated again to give the other monologue. mike was at 100% this time, plus he got a boost from actually eating something for once ("too much flavour awesomeness can't overpower your battery, can it?" — eat your damn food, michael), and will's speech convinced mike that happily accepting affection and fighting for his own existence is worth it, but they're still in a pizza freezer ("he likes it cold"), and vecna has enough power to open a mega-gate
there's a whole lot of reluctance in the performance, so mike is clearly fighting it anyway (he talks about "you have to fight" and "can you hear me?" and "i'm right here" a lot — i like the part where he says he's not scared of el, because after she realised what their relationship has actually been like for him, she must have felt guilty for being part of his choice getting taken away), but the distraction still works. mike goes back to normal (relatively) after el temporarily pushes vecna out of his and max's heads (using these two specifically to hurt el was revenge for when they worked together to protect her during the battle of starcourt), and from the two day time skip, we find out that el has stopped talking to mike. she probably realised what will did all the way back in season 2: vecna can spy through mike

so @strangeswift gave me a writing prompt of will bonding with someone through art, and mike getting jealous and i got.. uh.. carried away 😁😁
anyway, hope you enjoy it!!
will finds himself painting a lot lately. due to their, er, current situation, it was hard to find the best art materials, but he guesses it was a perfect opportunity to try out more sketching just to get it out of his system.
he sits on an empty bench near hawkins high, currently waiting for mike to finish his volunteering shift. mike actually asked him to stay with him, but he insisted he needed some fresh air alone. he tried to ignore mike’s hurt puppy expression and the somber way he said ‘oh, okay.’ as he requested it.
he didnt know what he was drawing. he practically had two full pages full of scribbles that amounted to nothing, that it led him to exhale out of frustration. he places the crumpled pages close to him so he makes sure to properly throw it later. he hated not being able to make things. it was the only way to keep him distracted from his thoughts, but his mind just decided…not to cooperate. the brain’s funny like that. will’s brain is funny like that. he had the biggest art block since the entire world ended and all that could occupy his mind was his stupid unrequited crush. so sue him for not making the creative juices flow enough.
that is, until he sees a particular guy at his proximity. he looked like a student, and he was talking with his friends. he seemed cheerful, a bright spirit with the way his laugh projects from where will was sitting. long, curly hair brunette, with kind eyes. he was wearing an oversized polo with that was effortlessly tucked into his shorts. if will was staring any longer like a creep, he could have sworn he saw piercings under his nose too.
and before will knew it, will draws a stroke, then two. it didnt take long until he was drawing a wisp of the boy’s hair, building it up. absentmindedly, his hands begin to move on its own as he puts in a couple of short strokes in a certain area. the lines lead to a nose with a strong bridge. he transitions to putting quite some detail in the subject’s lips, and then the kind eyes will took in great detail of.
just a couple of details, some subtle shading and… done.
will marvels at his new creation, and he found it hard not to stare. mostly because he couldnt believe he was capable of drawing something this good. he believed at least, that it was enough to capture this person’s beauty, that was worth something. and even if he’s the only one he’d think that, he’ll hold it close. he lets himself be proud of this one.
‘’tsk. damn, i knew i was attractive, but…’’
will jumps at the voice behind him. as if on instinct, he swiftly fumbles to close his sketchbook and set it aside. his head darts from his sketchbook, to the guy behind him.
and after a few short glances, will concludes this is not just some guy. this was the guy who he was just fucking sketching in public and now he has no idea how to get out of this situation that doesnt make him seem like a creep.
but he also found it rude to leave the guy hanging overall. he takes a deep breath. whats the harm in digging the grave a bit deeper?
‘’h-hey, uh.. listen about this...i dont normally do this. draw like this in public.’’ will manages to croak out. smooth.
the boy’s kind eyes smile. ‘’but im just soo handsome that i broke that habit out of you? im flattered.’’
‘’i-im sorry, i didnt mean to freak you out. let me just..’’ will stammers, in the process of tearing out the paper where the sketch is. before he starts to crumple it, the boy suddenly holds will’s hand. will knew it was to stop him, but the fact a boy is holding his hand thats not a threat in any way is making his brain short circuit a bit.
‘’before you do that..can i see it?’’ the boy asks earnestly. will could only stare, incredulous. ‘’come on, its my face. i at least have a right to see it.’’
‘’it-it’s not really that good.’’
‘’ill be the judge of that.’’ he smirks, and gently takes the sketch off of will’s hands. he leaves him with a flirtatious smirk leaving will flushed.
he then turns his gaze onto the paper and continues to look at it for what seemed like an eternity for will. he scans his face for a reaction, but it looked like the boy was still making his final verdict.
will was dying. he didnt know why he cared about the opinion of this boy so much, but he did. hell, something must have possessed him, because the last time he drew a boy he found pretty was mike wheeler and he was basically his muse. he felt like he was betraying mike somehow, even if he never actually told mike he was the constant subject of a of his paintings.
will wanted to jump off a cliff from this humiliating revalation.
‘’you’re amazing,’’ the boy’s booming voice brings will back to reality. ‘’i love the way you shade. you brought out my features so well in a way thats you. like from this piece alone, i can tell what your distinctive art style is, and that is insanely difficult to pull off. you should be proud!’’
will finds himself at a loss of words from the sudden compliment. he has no doubt his face is as red as an apple right now. all he could do was nod rapidly, and mutter a simple thanks. the boy attempts to flip a page, only to look back at will with a look asking for approval. will nods again to accept. one person looking at his sketchbook couldnt hurt, right?
..until he reaches the forbidden page where its full of mike drawings. he feels his cheeks glow red again, heart rate beating. he cant believe he forgot that was even there. this is why he doesnt let people see his stuff! its all of his feelings in one page!
however, he wasnt met with a look of disgust. just curiosity, and softness. ‘’these are all great. i can see youve been experimenting with a lot of mediums here; acrylic, charcoal. have you tried oil?’’
‘’oh.. yeah. oil is a little new for me. im meaning to get better at it though.’’
‘’good. its good to be an all rounder.’’ the boy says enthusiastically as he flips more pages, the beaming look of genuine awe never leaving his face. more pages of his sketches of mike show up, and will intends to coil himself into a ball until he shrinks to nonexistence.
‘’i notice you draw this guy a lot. is he someone you like?’’
will freezes.
the boy closes the sketchbook, waving his hands in the air. ‘’no, no, shit! um…dont worry. dont worry, okay? fuck, i keep forgetting it’s…’’ the boy sighs. will starts to get confused at his reaction. why was he taking this so strongly?
‘’im…i didnt mean to scare you. its just.. im.. i mean, if you are..’’ the boy continues to stammer, and will feels himself lean closer.
could he also be..?
‘’m-my boyfriend. im an artist too, actually. and i tend to draw him a lot.’’ he finally lets out, his hand gently caressing will’s sketchbook and brings it back to him. ‘’its normal.’’
‘its normal.’
its normal.
will repeats it to himself like a mantra.
will holds out a breath he didnt know he was holding. he smiles widely. god, hes actually meeting someone who’s just like him. unfortunately taken, but wow.
we do exist.
‘’well..he’s not my boyfriend though.’’ will mutters, playing with the spirals on the top of his sketchbook. his smile drops once he says it. ‘’mike-his name is mike- has a girlfriend. well, had a girlfriend.’’
‘’oh fuck.’’
‘’.. who just so happens to be my sister.’’
‘’oh fuck.’’
will finds himself smiling at his reaction. yeah, he knows his situation’s the worst, but at least he can get a kick out of how people are taking it. ‘’yep.’’ he replies popping the ‘p’ at the end.
‘’im sorry, man.’’
‘’its okay. all i wanted was for us to be best friends again. but lately, i feel like…we aren’t anymore.’’
‘’why do you say that?’’
will still finds it strange and shocking how he’s openly telling someone about his definitely not straight feelings to a stranger, but in all honesty he never felt safer in his life. so he finds it in himself to continue.
‘’i-i don’t know,’’ will scoffs. ‘’i don’t even know what i did. we’re at such a.. weird stage in our friendship right now that i dont even know what we are. first he ignores me for her, now when he broke up with her, hes running back to me spouting about he wants to be friends, and now hes gone back to fixating over her and ignoring me again. like… i feel like’s playing with me. and i hate myself for it. i should get angry, but all i can do is accept when he runs back to me, even if its so unfair. because unfortunately, ive been in love with this stupid guy for as long as i can remember, and i feel stuck.’’
will presses his lips to a line, and closes his eyes. before he knew it, tears slowly started to come down. and now he’s crying to a stranger. great! ‘’sorry. i never.. met someone like me before, so this is..’’
‘’dont apologize, alright man? i get it,’’ the boy says as he gently rubs will’s back. ‘’this is huge for me too.’’
‘’how did you know? weren’t you worried i was going to..be disgusted, or something?’’ will asks.
he shrugs. ‘’i dont know. there’s something about you. about me. we just know, right?’’
will wipes his tears and sniffs. ‘..yeah. right.’’
‘’and concerning your friend…’’ the boy smiles gradually. ‘’don’t give up.’’
‘’what?’’
‘’after what you told me? something tells me its.. not over between you two.’’
before will could inquire any more, a gentle but tight grip lands on his shoulder. he turns around, it was mike. ‘’hey, sorry for the wait. you good?’’
‘’oh, yeah.’’ will turns to the boy with kind eyes with a big grin. ‘’im really glad i met you.’’
the boy grins back. ‘’me too! is there any way we can keep in touch?’’
‘’yeah! yeah, let me just..’’ will tears a small piece of paper from his sketchbook and starts writing his number down. before he could continue, he turns to mike with an apologetic look. ‘’sorry for this mike, give me 2 minutes.’’
‘’sure, whatever.’’ mike says flatly, not even looking at will. he was crossing his arms, his demeanor all grumpy.
okay, weird. did something happen back in the school?
will finishes writing the number and gives it to the boy. ‘’this is at the wheeler’s place, but we’re just staying over there. you can just ask for me.’’
‘’i mean i would, but i dont even know your name.’’
before will could open his mouth, mike takes over for him. ‘’his name is will. what’s yours?’’
what seemed like an innocent question sounded very threatening and condescending to everyone else.
he squints before answering. ‘’my name’s ty. yours?’’ he asks rather teasingly. will is so lost, because ty is looking at mike like he’s an open book, and he knows the chapters like the back of his hand.
‘’mike. mike wheeler.’’ he extends his arm for a handshake. ty reaches out to accept it but once he reached a glimpse of contact, mike pulls back immediately as if he was burnt. ty doesnt seem too bothered though. if anything, he feels like he was expecting that. ‘’ahhh.. so you’re mike.’’ ty says with one side of his lips curving upward.
will felt the tension rise. he did not like it.
mike clears his throat. ‘’will, we need to go. curfew, remember?’’
‘’since when did you care about curfew?’’ will smirks.
‘’i don’t,’’ mike rolls his eyes. ‘’honestly, i just wanna go home.’’
‘’okay, okay.’’ will obliges. he takes one last look at ty, who was giving the two a knowing look as they walk away. again, weird. what the hell does ty know about them after a 10 minute conversation?
he then turns back to mike whose back was more slumped than usual, walking a little faster than will. will jogs up to catch up to him.
‘’so, how was your shift?’’ will asks awkwardly.
‘’it was fine.’’
‘’..mike, did something happen? because you seem a little…’’
‘’im fine, will.’’
‘’..okay.’’
the atmosphere was very tense now, and will didnt want to escalate it further than it has. he knew mike was already drifted away, and he did not want to make it more complicated. he got the message, theyre not that close anymore. done.
but mike suddenly stops in his steps, which makes will do the same. ‘’mike?’’
‘’will.. did you.. draw him?’’
will has been turning red a lot today lately. ‘’w-what?’’
‘’that.. guy. did you draw him?’’
‘’i.. did. did you see that?’’ will yells at himself, beating himself up internally for drawing in public, for putting his heart out on his sleeve. curse one cute guy for making him submit. he feels mike walk closer to him. his heart beats rapidly. this was it. he was mentally preparing for mike to hate him, tell him he’s disgusting, and that he never wants to see him again.
‘’do you draw me?’’
‘’what?’’
‘’i know you draw me with the rest of the party, with.. dnd stuff but..’’ now it was mike’s turn to fumble in his words and mannerisms, and will has no fucking idea on why, but by god was it adorable to watch.
‘’i just wanna know if you drew me too. like, just me. portraits, you call it?’’
after what you told me? something tells me its.. not over between you two.
it was that one recalling of a conversation that made will feel a little bit bold that day. ‘’..yeah. lots of times, actually.’’ will looks down with a shy smile on his face.
‘’good.’’ mike whispers.
‘’huh?’’
‘’fuck. nothing. um…okay. cool.’’
‘’yeah.. cool.’’
‘’will you be drawing him more than..me?’’
will cannot believe what he’s hearing right now. did the universe just decide to fuck with him today? is he getting targeted right now? a sick, cruel joke?
will doesn’t think so, because all he sees right now is mike. the mike he misses. the mike who talks to him all gently, who’s himself. nervous, wreck of a human being mike wheeler. mike wheeler, the love of his life. forever the subject of his paintings.
will looks up at mike, and their eyes lock.
‘’not possible.’’

Some thoughts on Will in The Sin-Eater’s Prom Date:
He never got stuck in the UD, so he was spared that trauma, but he had to grow up really fast in alternate S1. He had some conflict with Joyce (because she believed Jonathan to be dead for a while and Will only doubted briefly) and a kind of confrontation with Lonnie (who tried to act interested in his only surviving son but was still. You know. Himself). He emerges from the season with some new confidence in himself but also with a lot of worries and a more coherent grudge against his father.
Will is kind and sweet and obviously glad to have his brother back, but it’s scary to see Jonathan so sick and weird to be in a position where he’s supposed to look after himself more. He has his friends and his schoolwork and his hobbies, though, and throws himself into them. He’s proud, in a way, of being so independent and low-maintenance.
But he’s stressed out. He knows he’s gay, and his family doesn’t need one more thing to worry about. He’s not entirely in the loop re: Jonathan or general household matters, which is frustrating. He’s still being bullied. And, because he actually got to know El along with Mike, he’s both sad that she’s gone and jealous that Mike might feel a certain way about her.
He’s slower to warm up to Bob, because Bob’s well-meaning attention clashes with his desire to be independent (but at the same time isn’t a substitute for having things go back to normal). Jonathan likes Bob better, because he’s capable of feeling bad for Jonathan without bringing a bunch of guilt/revulsion/morbid curiosity into it, plus he gives him a job at RadioShack when he’s not super-employable elsewhere.
Will actually starts dating the Snow Ball girl after S2. It’s not a great situation—she’s pretty insecure and feels like she got a cute guy at a markdown because of his messed-up family—but he is really deterred to be normal after [redacted Jonathan misfortune] and Mike’s reunion with El.
Bob survives alternate S2, by the way. He’s dating Joyce and Hopper is their mutual friend. There’s some sexual energy floating around but no one’s acknowledging it.
Will starts doing some under-the-table jobs between S2 and S3. They kind of need the money, but Will’s anxiety and desire to prove himself also play a role.
By alternate S3, he thinks of himself as more mature than all his friends, not totally unfairly. His girlfriend doesn’t really like his friends, so he spends more time with her. His relationship with everyone at home is polite but distant. Joyce doesn’t pay much attention to him, Bob tries too hard, and he’d rather die than admit it but he sometimes resents Jonathan for so out of it. And he also knows everyone’s expecting him to shepherd El, his mom’s friend’s daughter as well as his own friend, through going to a new school. And also he’s supposed to keep an eye on his (older!) brother. And his girlfriend wants him to avoid his geeky friends and weird family so they can be Yearbook Popular. It’s too much.
The Party drifts apart somewhat in freshman year. Will does become Yearbook Popular, Lucas does basketball, Dustin gets in with the really competitive nerds, Mike joins Hellfire, Max is depressed (either Billy still died or something else happened), and El, having broken up with Mike because middle school romances generally don’t last forever, goes out for cheerleading. Will manages but internally he’s still very lonely and frustrated. But that will be resolved at some point.

These ideas are becoming better and better, love them!
Like I said, Vanessa being dead is a good plot point, especially if only Vanny and William knew about that at first. Vanessa almost has no control over her body at this point, almost completely drowned by William's presence. She comes out only when she's strictly needed to do something or answer a question, but it's still very controlled.
Shadow is a huge wild card for both William and Vanny, capable of doing damage with little effort. In a sense, he's more of a ghost than Michael is rn, so he's difficult to catch and keep under control. He, Michael, and Vanessa have a sibling-like relationship, budding over their shared William-related trauma. Sometimes, it makes Evan, Elizabeth, and Charlie jealous, but they keep it quiet because it would be hypocritical and from their parts.
OMC ends up being pretty protective over Michael because, in a sense, he was the first of William's victims, even if the first killed was Charlie. He was neglected since his Mom's death when he was 5, and when Elizabeth and Evan were born, he was even more ignored and mistreated by his father (this made Michael bully his younger siblings, because why he couldn't have their dad's love while they did?). OMC is willing to give other chances to many people, but he won't really forgive.
It's an interesting idea regarding Gregory, but I don't think it's possible. Vanny's modus operandi is to destroy her victim's bodies immediately to reduce the possibility of possession like it happened with Michael or herself, but she doesn't hide them because they could possess the animatronics like the Missing Children. Under the Pizzaplex, there's an old incinerator, so she burns the bodies to destroy them and any stray traces of Remnant. So yeah, Gregory wouldn't be able to do that, being that he was killed many hours before the beginning of Security Breach events
♪Lullaby_⁜_Anon♪
It’s was actually very relieving for Charlie, Elizabeth, and Evan at first to see Mike open up to Vanessa so much and to start trusting her, at least a little bit, so quickly as it seemed like a sign that Mike could and was getting better. But as Mike continued to shy away from them and closed off from sharing his real feelings and thoughts with them like he does with Vanessa, they can’t help but be hurt by it and feel jealous of Mike and Vanessa’s bond. A part of them just wants to blame Vanessa for ‘stealing’ the bond they want to have with Mike (as it’s easier than facing their own guilt) but OMC won’t let them, clearly reminding them that it was their choices that had hurt Mike so much.
Vanny and William don’t even realize Shadow Mike has any connection to Mike at first. It doesn’t act like the real Mike because Mike has never acted that vindictive and vicious. And even once they figure out that makes it both more unpredictable and terrifying, because Shadow Mike is just unfiltered and raw emotions made out of the agony of someone who has suffer a lot on life (and they don’t even know about what he went through after Pizza Sim).
OMC has Consequences in his name for a reason. Every choice has has repercussions, big and small, good or bad, and he knows every little ripple effect that comes from every action either taken or not taken. He is there to make sure those that pass through his domain see the full scope of what they’ve done and he won’t let them run away from the truth and fall out of what they’ve done. He’ll give them the chance to mend their mistakes if possible or force them to learn to live with the aftermath.
It’s also better if Gregory doesn’t even fully realize he’s dead and a ghost either. As it amps up both the tension and fear as he and Mike try and survive and the angst for both of them when they finally learn the truth.

We have a new citizen in Mount Phoenix:
Erik Elliott, a 22 year old son of Apep.           He is the stage manager at Divine Twin's PAC.
FC NAME/GROUP: Choi Beomgyu / TXT CHARACTER NAME: Erik Elliott  AGE/DATE OF BIRTH: October 28, 2000 PLACE OF BIRTH: Toronto, Ontario, Canada OCCUPATION: Stage manager at Divine Twin's HEIGHT: 180 cm  DEFINING FEATURES: gray eyes, dark brown hair with a reddish tint if seen under the sunlight, porcelain complexion with cool undertone
PERSONALITY: Those who are acquainted with Erik describe him as well-mannered, caring, and inspiring. He has a knack for supporting and motivating others, making them feel like they are capable of anything. Excelling at adapting and self control, he finds it easy to communicate and make friends with people from all walks of life without being influenced by others’ opinions. He appears to always be a good listener and a reliable friend. He is passionate and serious at pursuing his interests, mostly in performing art, making him a capable singer and performer.
If one has the chance to get closer to Erik, they would pick up the intensity, sometimes borderline obsession underneath his friendly, harmless facade. When it comes to protecting what he deems his, whether belongings, friends, or ideas, Erik is exceptionally fierce and unyielding. Once he sets his eyes on something, he tends to mentally and physically dissect it, leaving no stones unturned. If he likes a dish, he will use all sources he could get to find out every ingredient and how to make it. When he’s interested in someone, he will not stop digging until he reaches the deepest, darkest side. Most of the information collected  is for his own entertainment and benefits. It would take quite a lot to have a sneak peek of what he knows, what he thinks, and what his next move will be.
Erik sometimes becomes a victim to his own high expectations. When the outcomes of his doing do not match the ones in his head, it will take him longer than most to forgive himself. The tendency to keep his true thoughts and feelings a secret adds to the self-pressure, making him irritable, over-judgmental, and emotionally explosive at times. There is also this jealous streak that he strives to keep hidden, and when he decides to hold grudges, that probably would last a lifetime.
HISTORY: Trigger warning: mention of infidelity, mention of death
Erik Elliott, formerly known as Asher Elliott, is his mother’s secret weapon.
A reward Sarah gained after years of being Mike’s mistress, little Asher was a great threat to his reputation as a successful, well-respected businessman. Mike knew he should have known better than keeping the infidelity after his marriage, he could not help himself. And while he had his doubts about Sarah’s faithfulness, she got sufficient evidence to prove the opposite. Eventually, Mike agreed to pay generous child support in exchange for Sarah’s silence, repeatedly asking her to keep herself and the child as far away from his wife and son as possible.
Little did Mike know that what he suspected was right. Sarah had been seeing another man, the same reason for why she could not tell exactly who Asher’s father was. Since the mysterious man was quick to disappear from the crime scene, Mike and his lucrative business became the sole target of her revenge.
Asher was born on a new moon night in October. Like the darkness coating the city’s sky, he arrived in peace, calm and quiet. However, he quickly became as fussy as a colicky, hyper-sensitive child could be. Whenever his mother started to get comfortable with the thought that things were going well for him, Asher brought home a brand new problem. Despite that unpredictable temper, he had a brilliant mind. Right at the first day he went to school, Sarah constantly pushed her son to do his best, to always come out on top in every school subject and activities she made him participate in. Together with his surprising ability to focus on learning, as a result, Asher never failed to be among the most exceptional students of his school.
Her son’s excellence and great potential prompted Sarah to send him to London earlier than planned. To keep him stay under Mike’s radar, Asher celebrated his 11th birthday with a new name, Erik, and a new mission from his dear mother.
In tears and pent-up anger, she told him the whole story about the man who was supposed to be her husband and his father, Mike. She told him how Mike betrayed their years of love to marry a wealthier woman, that he should have been the heir of Mike’s fortune, and that it was the right time to start taking back what belonged to him.
Shortly before he left to attend this prestigious school in London as Sarah requested, Erik found out the truth.
Since he started to collect memories, Erik had already noticed how lights in a room tended to dim slightly when he entered, then got back to normal when he got out. Back then, the difference was too insignificant to draw anyone’s attention. Yet since he turned 10, there were constant inexplicable problems with the light system of his house. Lights kept going out, then coming back out of a sudden, without any telltale sign. Several calls to several mechanics all came fruitless, and Sarah had to give up in frustration. The same incident, though in less frequency, happened in Erik’s classroom.
At the tender age of 12, Erik left Toronto, bringing with him the petty triumph of being the only one to know the answer.
Despite the peaceful life with his great aunt and her dog in London, Erik did not escape the pressure from his mother. Ironically, his ‘rival’, his ‘half brother’, the reason why he had to cross the ocean without knowing when to come back, was also the best of a friend he had ever had. They took turns to be the best and second best at school, with Erik more often being the latter. Sarah was never happy with his results, even when he became the president of the performing art club.
Time spent at his best friend’s manor told Erik that his situation was not much brighter, but no matter what happened, his best friend always glowed. In the literal sense of the word. Despite him trying to absorb the other’s light, it only dimmed at best, which did not stop the friend from seeing clearly in the darkness he created. Erik was convinced that he, by following the lead of fate, had discovered another truth, and another lie of another mother. Another dirty secret buried so deep yet so shallowly, it never failed to make Erik laugh.
The bright side of the story came when his best friend’s mom, a woman Erik grew to cherish more than his own mother, left a letter that offered the answer he had been looking for.
Demigods, of course. Erik had always known both his friend and him belonged to something beyond human, but the revelation still came as a great surprise. Knowing his friend moved to a magical island called Mount Phoenix, he considered following suit. A few months after the funeral of his friend’s mother, the invitation to enroll sent by Phoenix University arrived as the final push he needed.
After a perfect lie crafted for his mother and great aunt, telling them he would move to the US for university, Erik packed his bags, and ran away from London, never wanting to look back.
PANTHEON: Egyptian CHILD OF: Apep POWERS:
Darkness Manipulation: Able to manipulate darkness and absorb sources of lights (lamps, candles, etc.), casting darkness into a room or a whole building. Duration of the power effect depends on his physical and mental conditions.
Night Vision: Able to see clearly in the dark
Darkness Empowerment: Able to gain supernatural strength and speed during the night
Shapeshifting: Able to shapeshift into a serpent, particularly an Egyptian cobra. This power has yet to be discovered.
STRENGTHS:
He is innately skillful at adapting to his surroundings, allowing him to quickly blend in and get along with others.
He excels in detecting lies and gathering information about whatever and whoever he’s interested in knowing.
He is a man of his word (even though he rarely makes promises)
He is a capable performer, and also shows minor talent in drawing and painting.
WEAKNESSES:
He usually sets incredibly high expectations for himself and others, leading to chronic stress and bursts of anger at times.
He’s prone to physical injury, which often takes a longer time than usual to recover.
He tends to get lethargic and physically weak during daytime.

Since someone put a “Jack as Michael’s kid AU” bug in my brain, here’s some ideas:
Both Michael and Lucifer are released from the cage in S12, the former wearing Adam.
(Queerplatonic midam + aromantic Michael btw)
Michael is. A directionless, conflicted mess by the time Chuck and Amara go off. The Apocalypse is off the table now as far as he’s concerned but the Winchesters start pestering him to help deal with Lucifer and his little siblings want him to rule Heaven again and oh boy, his feeling about the syste of the other angels is a whole ‘nother can of worms…
And you know, Adam’s got his own stuff to deal with two, but he does recognize neither of them we’re capable of dealing with any of that right then, so. Roadtrip.
There are certain experiences that can’t NOT be shared when being body mates. Like sleeping with a hot older woman they met in Washington while using Angel Mind Mojo to tour the White House unauthorized.
Knocking up Kelly Kline with an ultra- powerful nephil? So not planned.
Que Michael completely panicking, giving Kelly the Winchesters’ contact info and flying away…then getting into a fight with Adam about their soon-to-be kid… and Adam kicking him out of the body to go “be a man and take some damn responsibility, with or without you!”
Hence begins Michael’s soul- searching depression era, the upcoming arrival of his spawn and a possible breakup with the platonic love of his life being piled up on top of all the previous crap.
Upon Team Free Will’s Needling- both because “we’re your faaamily” and paranoia about Jack the Fetus- Kelly and Adam (also purely platonic at this point) move into the bunker in preparation for Jack’s birth, aware that Kelly could very well die, potentially leaving Adam a single father.
(Kelly does survive, but delivery takes a MASSIVE toll on her, and she is a working mother who travels. Adam spends the first few months being Stay At Home Dad, with Jack’s three uncles helping out as much as they can- particularly Cas, who Kelly appointed Jack’s godfather)
(Due to the different circumstances surrounding his birth, Jack pops out a baby and quickly aged into toddlerhood over these few months)
This is around the time Michael gets himself together and shows back up. Jack is thrilled to meet his other Daddy, Adam has ALSO been depressed since he left Michael and is low key jealous of his new, temporary vessel even tho he’s happy to see him again, MIKE is jealous of Cas “replacing” him, Kelly isn’t interested in the drama unless it affects Jack’s visitation now that she’s moved back out of the bunker…
Not sure if I’d have Midam go back to sharing a body or just settle back into the same relationship with separate bodies, but they DO eventually make up…

byler au: i love the fact that tons of girls find will cute. And I'm imagining a protective jealous mike, being all bodyguard like protective of him. Half because he's jealous, but mainly because he knows it makes will uncomfortable and hes too nice to tell them to leave him alone. So Mike the paladin/knight to the rescue. No ones getting near Will to make him uncomfortable. Will honestly likes that Mike makes him feel safe. Than at home, Mike gets a little possessive and marks Will all up with hickes and bites.
Omg yes yes. great thoughts. "No ones getting near Will to make him uncomfortable. Will honestly likes that Mike makes him feel safe." <- probably my favorite part in there (along with the bodyguard energy 😮‍💨). It's like a good balance of mike knowing will doesn't like to be babied, and will still liking the protection and comfort mike's always given him, that doesn't have to fade as time goes on! He's a romantic!
on this note but separate I love this sort of journey for will as they grow up, him finding it easier to handle attention (especially from girls since he's not interested) because he's so beautiful and mike - whose never found it hard to come to will's rescue or defence - always encouraging and proud of him seeing that growth. But even then, the thought that will still likes feeling looked after and indulges in those spikes of protectiveness from mike as they get older because they both know will's capable, mike is just naturally the type to care for loved ones.
likewise mike has his journey with his jealousy going down as time goes on, I like to think it turns to smugness and pride because will is obsessed with him even in public and he becomes more secure in himself. don't get me wrong I loveee jealous mike, and I think it's extra rough for mike because for a few years he obviously can't outright be affectionate so people to back off and I like the angst there. but I also like to imagine will's "actually my best friend/boyfriend-" ass doesn't go long without finding mike across a room and ending up by his side again, swooping up under mike's arm heheh
the possessiveness though? Yuuuum 🤤 that's a thing to stay babey! whether it's a year into dating or 30, mike is marking will up when they get home. He loves showing off his bf but he loves leaving reminders of how will is his just as much 🥰 and will is simply along for the ride lmfao (and will has his days too of courseee)

"Fear not, for I am with you. Be not dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you."
'I can't believe I'm at Will's funeral.'
"Yes, I will help you. I will uphold you with my righteous right hand." The pastor continued.
I spared a glance at the people around me.
I looked to Jonathan, his head bowed, and poor Joyce who was sitting nearby.
I can't imagine what they must be going through.
Joyce was like a second mother to me, and she has always treated as if I was one of her own. I'll always be grateful for that. I lay a hand on her shoulder.
She looks up to me confused like I had pulled her deep out of her thought, upon seeing it was me she smiles thankfully. She put her hand over mine and gave it a few gentle pats and then a small stroke with her thumb to say thank you.
I smiled solemnly at her and let go, listening to the rest of the service.
"It's times like these that our faith is challenged. How, if he is truly benevolent... could God take us from someone so young, so innocent?"
I looked down at my feet.
"It would be easy to turn away from God... but we must remember that nothing, not even tragedy, can separate us from His love."
I felt a nudge on my shoulder and turned to look at Dustin. He wore a sly smirk as he looked to his right, past me and Mike.
Frowning in confusion, I turned my head to see what he was smirking about.
"Just wait till we tell Will that Jennifer Hayes was crying at his funeral." Dustin said cheekily.
I scoffed under my breath, rolling my eyes.
"Since when has she cared about Will? She couldn't even get his name right, remember that week she called him Bill?" I huffed, crossing my arms in distaste.
The boys smirked at me.
"What?" I asked.
"Somebody jealous?" Lucas smirked.
"No-! Not ev- Shut up!" I scowl.
The boys giggle earning more than a few concerned and offended glances making me smile to myself. Mrs. Wheeler leaned down and shushed the boys making me smirk more.
'Serves them right.'
Soon enough, the casket had been lowered into the growd and roses had been thrown on top. I made my way to the very side of the grave, looking down.
"I know you're not dead. But I swear to God, if you don't come back I'm gonna kill you." I muttered to the casket in the ground.
As people began to filter out, we watched as Mike's mom said her condolences to Will's parents.
"I'm so, so sorry."
"Oh, thank you so much for coming." Will's dad said.
I never liked him.
Joyce was just standing by herself quietly, her arms crossed looking down at the grave.
"Yeah, if there's anything we can do..." Mr. Wheeler offered, shaking the man's hand.
"I appreciate it. Thank you so much."
I said goodbye to Lucas who had to follow his parents out, even though we would be seeing him later at the wake. I did the same with Mike, and soon enough Mom was waiting for us so we could get to the car.
"Mom, will you give me a minute?"
"Of course, Pumpkin," She smiled at me with sympathy.
I turned around wove through the crowd that had separated me from Joyce. I tapped her on the shoulder, seeming to jostle her from her thoughts a second time.
Upon seeing it was me, she smiled.
"Hi, Ms. Byers."
"Oh, hi Y/n. Thank you, for coming, sweetheart," She smiled.
I captured her in a bear hug and she gladly reciprocated, giving my several comforting strokes.
"Of course. I'm so, so sorry for your loss." I said, letting her go.
"Oh, thank you, honey. T-Tell me, how have you been holding up?" She asked gently.
My eyes welled up.
"I'm not gonna lie, it's- it's been really hard. I just, I just miss him so much. Your son was such a good person. Always a gentleman." I knew what I was saying.
Even if he is alive for sure, everything I said was true. He always has been nothing but kind to me.
Not to mention, I owe him for so much.
She seemed extremely thankful for hearing that and I was glad I could make her genuinely smile on this sad day.
"Really? Oh sweetie, thank you. That means, just so much to me."
I look back to my mom and brother waiting for me by the car, and I return my gaze back to Ms. Byers.
"Um, I better go. My mom is waiting for me. I guess I'll be seeing you at the wake. Goodbye, Ms. Byers."
"Thank you again, Y/n. I'll see you later, okay?" Her face slightly fell and she smiled at me.
I nod and begin walking backward sending a small wave her way before turning around a breaking out into a small jog to catch up to my mom.
⊹ ⊹ ⊹
Being at the funeral of your best friend is daunting and quite surreal.
Being at the funeral of your best friend who is quite possibly alive in another dimension and you and only four other people know this is a completely different ballpark.
We had all met up at the wake and regrouped.
The plan was to ask Mr. Clarke if there was anything he could tell us about the theories regarding alternate dimensions. I'm just praying that we don't arouse suspicion given the setting.
"Mr. Clarke?" The tall man turned his attention away from the buffet to look at us.
Mr. Clarke smiled sympathetically. "Oh, hey, there."
The somber look came easily to my face as I looked to Mr. Clarke, Mike, and Lucas on either side of me while Dustin was digging into the buffet.
"How are you kids holding up?"
Lucas speaks up for us, slightly distracted by Dustin's blatant chewing. "We're... in... mourning."
"Man, these aren't real Nilla Wafers," Dustin sighed, shaking his head.
My eyes widen softly, and I look to Mr. Clarke trying to cover for him.
"You'll have to excuse my brother, Mr. Clarke, he's-" I stop midsentence to see him happily munching on more snacks, and look back to Mr. Clarke. "well, he mourns in his own... special way."
"We were wondering if you had time to talk?" Mike asked, wanting to move things along as quickly as possible.
"We have some questions," Lucas added.
I shook my head in agreement. "A lot of questions, actually,"
Mr. Clarke complied and the four of us found ourselves at the nearest table, asking our teacher about other dimensions at our "dead" friends' wake. Not something I ever could have imagined doing.
"So, you know how in Cosmos, Carl Segan talks about other dimensions? Like, beyond our world?"
"Yeah, sure. Theoretically." Mr. Clarke replies, noticeably confused at the subject of our questions.
"Right, theoretically,"
"So, theoretically, how do we travel there?" Lucas asked.
"You guys have been thinking about Hugh Everett's Many-World's Interpretation, haven't you?" A ghost of a smile on our teacher's face.
"Yeah," I chuckled, nodding my head in response.
The boys looked at me, wondering why I had said that.
I gave them a look that said, 'I don't know, just go with it.'
"Well, basically, there are parallel universes. Just like our world, but just infinite variations of it. Which means there's a world out there where none of this tragic stuff ever happened," I found myself nodding along, not for the sake of being believable, but actually lost in the idea.
"Yeah, that's not what we're talking about," Lucas sighed, leaning back.
"Oh."
"We were thinking of more of an evil dimension, like the Vale of Shadows. You know the Vale of Shadows?" Dustin asked, taking another loud bite of his off brand Nilla Wafers.
Not thinking that our science teacher would know anything about Dungeons and Dragons, I was completely taken aback by his next words.
"An echo of the Material Plane, where necrotic and shadow magic–"
"Yeah, exactly." Mike said cutting him off.
I shift uncomfortably in my seat.
"If that did exist - a place like the Vale of Shadows - how would we travel there?"
"Theoretically, of course." I add.
"Well..."
Mr. Clarke grabbed an empty paper plate and pulled out a pen from his jacket pocket. He then drew a straight line across the paper plate as he spoke, creating a visual for us.
"Picture... an acrobat..." He drew a small stick figure on top of the lines. "standing on a tightrope. Now, the tightrope is our dimension. And our dimension has rules."
He began drawing arrows on either side of the acrobat.
"You can move forwards, or backwards. But, what if..." He drew a very small creature under one of the arrows. "right next to our acrobat, there is a flea? Now, the flea can also travel back and forth, just like the acrobat. Right?"
"Right." We all agreed.
"Here's where things get really interesting. The flea can also travel this way... along the side of the rope." He drew arrows indicating the flea's direction around and under the rope, causing me to furrow my brows. "He can even go underneath the rope."
The boys and I all shared the same look before returning our gaze to Mr. Clarke. "Upside Down."
"Exactly."
Mike spoke up. "But we're not the flea, we're the acrobat."
"In this metaphor, yes, we're the acrobat."
"So we can't go upside down?" Lucas asked warily.
"No."
"Well, is there any way for the acrobat to get to the Upside Down?"
"Well," Our teacher furrowed his brows, a thoughtful look coming upon his face. "you'd have to create a massive amount of energy. More than humans are currently capable of creating, mind you, to open up some kind of tear in time and space, and then..."
He folded the paper plate in half, creasing it shut before shoving his pen directly through both sides of the paper plate. "you create a doorway."
"Like a gate?" My brother asked eagerly.
"Sure. Like a gate. But again, this is all–"
"Theoretical." I smile, nodding my head.
"But... but what if this gate already existed?" Mike asked, timidly.
"Well, if it did, I... I think we'd know. It would disrupt gravity, the magnetic field, our environment. Heck, it might even swallow us up whole."
Mike seems to gauge our reactions, and I'm the only one who met his eye with an equally uncertain gaze.
"Science is neat." Mr. Clarke continued. "But I'm afraid it's not very forgiving."
We all lean back, digesting the information.
