Um. Maybe it will be.

I don't know, my enthusiasm for it has dulled a little after some criticism seemed to stack against it. Much like with the new chapter of all that i am (all that i ever was). I don't know, justification and saying you don't know the whole story yet takes a toll. Tiring. Eats away at enthusiasm.

But here's this.

Kate had spent most of her life it felt like, walking the three streets between their house and the Bridgerton House. She'd tagged along with Mary at first, to drop off and collect Edwina, then as she'd gotten a little older she'd volunteered to go by herself, hooking Edwina out of whatever game she and Tony were playing, and even when Edwina had been sixteen, Mary had sighed before she put dinner on the table while Kate was home from university and her father had just been getting home.

"Can you go and make sure your sister is planning to come home?"

She'd walk those streets slowly, giving Edwina another few minutes with her best friend before rapping on the neat front door , Wisteria climbing up the side of the house.

"Kate!" Mrs Bridgerton would always say kindly, gesturing her inside.

"Hi, Mrs Bridgerton, I'm just here for Edwina." She'd say, though the woman must have already known.

"They're upstairs." Mrs Bridgerton would say, and the old they got the more exasperated she became. "There was a lot of whispering before they went up so I'd knock twice if I were you if you don't want to get an eyeful of something on Tony's laptop. Lord knows I've not had the balls to look on that in years."

Kate would always stifle a laugh and make her way upstairs, rolling her eyes as she heard the laptop snap and magazines rustling about seconds after she called out.

The welcome she'd always received had been warm. Even the last time she'd been here, when she'd dressed in black Mr Bridgerton had been lain to rest and as she'd looked at her own father who'd been right there in the car beside him on their way from a meeting, everything felt numb.

But she was sure her welcome wouldn't be so warm this time. Not with Violet's son's hand on her thigh as they made their way through traffic anxiety gnawing in Kate's stomach like a dog with a bone.

"You're not nervous are you?" Anthony chuckled from the driver's seat, turning the wheel one handed as they pulled onto the street, the other occupied with keeping contact between them.

Kate rolled her eyes, "I'm meeting your mum, of course I'm nervous."

Anthony's brow furrowed, that little worried crease between his eyebrows far too prominent. "You've met my mum literally thousands of times. She sends you a christmas present."

"That's kind of the point." Kate sighed, reaching for his fingers, intertwining them tightly. "That was before all this happened. She might not feel the same way now."

He wiggled his eyebrows as they pulled into the curb, darting around to open her car door "Are you worried my Mum's going to ask you for compensation for my virginity? Only fair that you giver her a few chickens, you did seduce me an innocent young man, into a relationship."

Kate rolled her eyes, poking his ribs as Anthony made to throw the door open. "I actually think you seduced me, somehow."

"You're damn fucking right I did." Anthony threw the front door open, hollering up the stairs before Kate could stop him. "Mum! I'm here!"

"Anthony, jesus." Kate hissed at him, "Give her a second."

"What? If we loitered on the stoop she'd think you were seducing me even further with your feminine wiles." Anthony was grinning at her, pushing back with his hips until he had her pinned against the bannister, his arms either side of her.

"My feminine wiles?" Kate scoffed, trying to pretend his closeness was having no effect at all "What are you-?!"

"Well, some things never change."

Violet Bridgerton was standing in the doorway to the kitchen a slightly amused expression on her face as Kate shoved hard against Anthony's chest who seemed undeterred by his mother's presence and kept his arms tightly around her anyway.

"Mum, you remember Kate." His lips were still tickling her ear as he spoke, shivering down her throat.

"Of course, darling. It's been a little while."

Kate's cheeks were burning as she forced words out. "It's lovely to see you again, Mrs Bridgerton. It's been too long."

Violet hummed gently before she turned to her son. "Anthony, go and make sure Gregory's not got lego up his nose courtesy of his sister again, make sure they're ready for dinner."

Anthony kissed Kate's cheek lightly, before he bounded up the stairs two at a time, "Alright troublemakers, your leader's home!"

Kate couldn't help the smile on her face as she watched him go, his eyes bright smile huge.

"He's a good boy, always has been." Violet hummed softly, catching Kate's attention, "Even though he's not a boy anymore."

Kate's stomach swirled uncomfortably for a moment before she cleared her throat, "I hope you don't feel that I'm... taking advantage of him in some way. I know I'm a little older than he is but-"

"You're not even five years older than him."

Kate flushed again, "I know but, he's sweet and kind, and capable of knowing his own feelings and I love him, Mrs Bridgerton, and he's happy with me and I hope that means more to you than anything else."

Not for the first time Kate wondered if it would matter so much if she hadn't been the one their parents had trusted to look after him and Edwina. If she hadn't grown up ahead of him. She supposed she'd never know. "And I never thought about him like that until recently."

Violet stayed staring back at her, blinking in surprise at her forthrightness before a delighted laugh broke free of her chest, echoing around the entrance room. "Kate, I think you've... I'm very happy for you and Anthony. He's had feelings for you for a very long time and I'm not... overly surprised." She leaned in a little conspiratorially, "Truth be told I'm only a little cross because I now owe your mother £100, she won the bet."

And despite herself, Kate laughed as well.

The songs were great but I don’t think there was a real show stoppin number™ - nothing with the earworminess of some of my favourite tunes from past productions. Which is fine. (This opinion is subject to change upon future viewings) “Deck The Halls” has the most potential to stick in my head.

The Santa Claus Is Going to High School movie was hilarious. Robert Manion as teen Santa was everything. 

Speaking of Robert Manion — he looked so cool in that leather jacket

Also Lauren Lopez remains the greatest — Is woman-in-villainous-black-cape a kink? Should be. (“Is this some kind of a joOoOoOoOoke?”)

The instrumentation in “Wiggle” is the best, and honestly any time a set piece in any musical centres around Lauren Lopez, I completely buy in.

Lastly, I’m so glad that Curt Mega and Kim Whalen are officially a part of the StarKid family, and if we could get Mary-Kate Wiles into a future StarKid musical that’d be great.

Song for a heartbreak- it really depends on what stage in the heartbreak you're in, and I have put way too much thought into this. For the first bit, where it's still kind of a state of shock that something like that happened to you/someone would treat you that way and you need time to let it sink in, I Don't Get To Say I Love You Anymore by Tessa Violet or What Am I Here For by Jade Bird. For the depths of the pain if you want to really let yourself feel it and scream, Stop Dragging My Heart Around by Stevie Nicks and Tom Petty, I Want Love by Elton John, or the Across the Universe movie version of Oh! Darling. The various ways to pull yourself out: for the "fuck them I'm hot" vibe, A Change of Scene by Dylan Glatthorn sung by Mary Kate Wiles; for the "I'm done and putting it all the way in the past" vibe, Whatsername by Green Day; for the spite and anger vibe, Uh Huh by Jade Bird; and for the in between all those vibes, Truth Hurts by Lizzo.

Like I said, way too much thought went into this, and this is so many songs. I'm not sorry though, they're good songs and they work.

Just watched Spies Are Forever (it’s a musical)

and I feel the need to scream into the void about it. (WARNING: HERE BE SPOILERS.)

Firstly, oh my God, the plot twist. The plot twist. I pretty much sussed from the get-go that Owen was going to be the Big Bad, because, you know, Bond tropes and all that. I did not, however, suss that Owen was the Deadliest Man Alive (tm).

Jesus. I immediately rewatched it and there's SO MUCH foreshadowing it's honestly amazing (I'm such a sucker for good foreshadowing). Right from the first song, it pretty much spells out that Owen's still alive ('spies never die, spies are forever') and The Coldest Goodbye is so foreshadow-y I just can't. "Lurking in the shadows, watching your every move. Tall, dark, and dangerous. A man with nothing to lose. Women can't resist him, villains can't escape. The sharpest of shooters. Your heart he'll break." I guess when I first watched it I figured it was just referring to the bereaved Curt? Which works too, to be fair, but rewatching it, knowing that Owen survives and this is his Start of Darkness . . ? I got chills, man.

'Spy Again' is also a great song made even more great (and painful) the second time round. (I love the vaguely Les Mis vibes!) The lines "Owen please, if you could see what's become of me, what would you think?" and "Owen would want me to do this" especially really get me, since on the rewatch we as the audience know all too well that Owen resents Curt and isn't exactly the biggest fan of espionage.

Somebody's Gotta Do It is hilarious, doubly so because Owen is technically dueting with himself. Joey's facial expressions are priceless.

Pay Attention is really good, but am I going crazy or does it sound like To Be A Princess from the Princess and the Pauper??

'The Nazis are not so bad/What the fuck is wrong with you people??!' exchange properly cracked me up.

Torture Tango was .. .  amazing?? Like, I loved it the first time through; the overlaying part at the end is so good when all three of them are singing. But rewatching knowing the DMA's identity added so much. Just the beginning, 'I've been waiting for this moment for such a long time. And wouldn't you know it, you're finally mine" is made so much worse given context. I was a little confused at the kinda twisted romantic vibe I was picking up, but knowing that the guy torturing is Owen, Curt's old partner, made it all make such a horribly perfect kind of sense. I also love the overlay of 'To show you the horror of staying alive' and 'Doesn't even matter if I killed my best friend'. Mary Kate Wiles' vocals are so crisp during this song too. 

We Love the Prince was peak passive aggression. Very witty. Bonus points for the use of 'Jibber Jabber'. The dancing was great too--very smooth and classy. (Actually, shout-out to the choreography in the whole production, it was very slick and whimsical, especially bits like the slo-mo dancing in the opening number and the dancing swastika (never thought I'd be typing that).)

Prisoner of My Past was haunting. I don't think I breathed or moved at all while she was singing.

Doing This was so good, actually one of my faves. It lampoons the usual tropes so well--"I'm a girl/I'm a guy"--and goes in such a heartwarming, refreshing direction. Tatiana and Curt are such well-written characters.

One More Shot had such a mood, such high-energy. I love the Hamilton vibes and how they're getting progressively more bladdered throughout the song to the point where they're missing each other's high fives at the end. What a buzz.

One Step Ahead. Arghhh. This was so good, though it trampled my emotions like they were Mufasa. I loved the tiny hang-gliders and boats and stuff they were using in the pursuit--it added just the right touch of humour to a very dramatic scene.

Oh God, there are so many zingers here I don't even know where to--

I loved Curt's line, 'I liked you better when you were dead', since so much of what Curt's done throughout the musical was based on what he imagined the old, idealised version of Owen would want him to do, and his fond memories of their time together. Throughout this song you can hear Curt forcibly letting go, as much as it hurts him, because he knows it'll hurt more in the long run if he doesn't. 'This is what you made me do. This is it. We're done! We're through!' was also so powerful; the hurt and fury and bitterness is palpable. (The Sound of Music reference was great).

I also love how Owen disdainfully tells Curt that he's got some advice: 'moving on', yet throughout this whole confrontation Owen is the one unable to pull the trigger. Owen seems to have the advantage when they were sword-fighting, etc, and he has a gun to Curt's head for a good long while, but he puts off actually killing Curt for so long Curt gains the advantage. Owen's final piece of advice, which he couldn't take himself, is the impetus which spurs Curt to finally kill him, something I was shocked at when I first watched but makes a lot more sense now. The whole musical's been Curt's process of moving on and putting his past behind him, and this was the logical conclusion of that, as sad as it made me.

Because sadness is what I felt a lot of the time actually, when I was rewatching it. Curt and Owen's easy banter at the beginning, all the little (anvil-sized) hints that they were together, like Owen casually calling him 'love' and Owen knowing that Curt is 'deathly ticklish behind the neck and ears' and so on, it just felt so tragic, knowing it was all going to be wiped away in minutes by one slip up (moral of the musical: don't litter).

So yeah, in conclusion, I guess I went in expecting wacky hijinks and I definitely got those, but also a lot more feels than I expecting??? I dunno, this musical just made me feel a lot of things. (Also, well done if you read this far. Hope you didn’t perish from parenthesis overdose.)

1. My main boy Edgar Allan Poe (his social awkwardness just speaks to me on a personal level and Sean portrays him so well, from Poe Party to A Tell Tale Vlog)2. Lenore (come on, a sassy ghost, what more can you ask for? Also Sinead is fucking gorgeous)3. Vivian Nightingale (Mary Kate Wiles, need I say more?  Ok I will.  Her little quips and the way her voice sounds when she’s talking is just breath taking, and her singing OMG, I’m in love.)4. Emily Dickinson (Sarah is so precious as Emily, and I just love the running gag of her not being seen.  Plus she’s one of my fav poets so there’s that too!)5. Oscar Wilde (I’m just obsessed with everything Tom did with his portrayal.  Everything from his mannerisms to the almost inappropriately timed laughter.)

This was such a hard list to come up with and I had to stop myself because I would start changing things around.  And I wanted so badly to not have this list just be Poe Party, but I think I failed miserably at that, oh well.  I just love them so much and the work they have created so far and I really badly want to work with them someday, that would be a dream come true!!  Thank you so much Kristen for this!!!

Candied Peach: What do you think is the best way to start your day?the best days are ones where I let magnus out and then get to go back to bed for a couple of hours and its cosy and quiet and peaceful (which is rare bc my neighbours have two children who like to scream outside my window at 7.30am) and then I get up and have breakfast (cereal normally but when I have the energy for pancakes its a Great Time) and a cup of english breakfast tea and thats just. such a nice little ritual. but honestly my fave thing is when I wake up with someone and we have our mornings together - I really like when my friend stays w me when she’s on placement bc I can like be with her while she gets ready and wave her off to start her day and then go back to bed (lmao) and at the end of the day we got to sit down w dinner and talk about our days like... the domestic life? ideal...this answer got way off topic saghkajsda

 I was tagged by the lovely @fuck-yeah-firebringer, and cannot remember the last time I did anything like this so I might sound a bit awkward. :P

1. What’s your patronus/hogwarts house? I’ve actually never given either of these much thought tbh. I’d like to say owl or wolf, but they’re basically just animals I like a lot. Idk what would actually fit me. As for house... I’m definitely somewhere between Hufflepuff and Ravenclaw, and I could make an argument for either so I’m going to choose Ravenclaw.

2. Favourite musical? This is way too difficult to answer. I mean, I’ve adored Grease ever since I was about 6 years old and I still love it. But Jesus Christ Superstar is the one I’ve watched most (both on stage and on screen), unless you count The Rocky Horror Show. But then I’ve listened to Hamilton way more than any others. I’m going to say Spies are Forever just because that’s the one I cannot stop watching at the moment, and I seriously considered flying halfway around the world to see it last year.

3. Who on tumblr are you really glad you followed? So many people, I’m not even going to try and answer this fully because the answer would be way too long and I’d still miss people out. Instead I’ll just mention @hatersmakemeefamous because we ended up becoming friends irl and she has contributed not insignificantly to my pile of books I need to read, and @fuck-yeah-firebringer because I had been absolutely *dying* for someone to freak out to about Mary Kate Wiles. :’)

4. Do you have any pets? Not strictly pets, but my family keeps budgies and cockatiels.

5. What book/film/play changed your life? Yet another hard question to answer, and I’m not sure if that’s because I have too many or too few... Plenty of books have changed who I am as a person, and obviously that changes how my life plays out too. And of course books(/films/plays) can change the course of your life in small ways just because they give you something in common with other people who’ve read(/watched) them. But the closest I can come to what I think this question really means, is Looking for Alaska.

6. Opinion on The Cursed Child? The script reads like the most ridiculous cheesy fanfiction; not necessarily *bad* but definitely over the top and with several things that come totally out of nowhere and never start to make sense. I’m hoping it works better on stage where the subtlety generally comes from the actors, not from the script.

7. What’s your most prized possession? I don’t think I even *can* answer this honestly, because all the top competitors are either books or notes/cards that are from or associated with people I care about, so trying to pick one would essentially be picking between those people. Then when I try to think of anything else, there’s nothing else I care about enough for it to be an option. :’) I’ll just pick my gorgeous leatherbound copy of Great Expectations because I absolutely adore that as a book, as a beautiful item, and it has some really nice associations too but not quite as much as the other things I’m disqualifying for being too personal.

8. What fandoms are you in? Oh god, lots? Probably the only ones I get particularly involved with though are Dresden Files, Gilmore Girls, and Mary Kate Wiles/Shipwrecked.

9. Who’s your favourite person? Wow, yeah, so not answering that one. :’) I don’t even want to *pick* a favourite person, let alone announce that choice!

10. What’s your dream? Honestly pretty much just to be married somewhere that never gets too hot and have walls absolutely full of books.
