I will always maintain that Wei Wuxian was in the right for what he did during the Sunshot Campaign. It is morally right and even necessary to resist violent oppression with violence. Any handwringing on how oppression is fought and what kind of violence fits the bar for “good enough to not be labeled a bad guy” in the face of fighting oppression is the same as siding with said oppression.

The fact that wwx only does what he does during wartime to the people trying to oppress him but drops these behaviors completely during peacetime says a lot about his character. Meanwhile, the wartime tactics the Wen used is what the rest of the cultivation world adopt during peacetime, wonder what that says about them 🤔

were all for prison abolition and transformative justice until i say "the man who abused me as a young teen is not in a place where he has access to children or women so i dont want to pursue any judicial action against him, and also i understand that while the abuse he put me through was extreme and awful, he was young, traumatized, endured abused himself, and abusing multiple substances and i dont believe he is the same person he was at the time", at which point everyone looks at me with pity and concern and tells me i dont have to make excuses for him and im allowed to hate him and etc etc. like yeah i do hate him. im capable of thinking past hatred, being reasonable about the situation, and maintaining my political ideals even when it comes to things personal to me, so that when i say "everyone deserves a chance at rehabilitation" i dont conveniently make an exception for the guy who hurt me personally.. anyway.

The thing about Tobias and betrayal is that he makes it look as if he only hates people who betray him. In actuality, he dislikes anyone who betrays anyone. He's not stupid, so he'll definitely take advantage of every person who's willing to double-cross their allies if it's helpful for his own situation, but they'd live under a false impression of safety and comradery the whole time bc Tobias would absolutely end them the second he'd be finished with their boss/friend/etc and have no more use for them either.

In his eyes, if you're able to betray someone else, even moreso a friend or a boss you've sworn loyalty to (*regardless of circumstances), why would you not betray him too? What use could he possibly have out of you which would override the amount of tracking he'd have to do to make sure you don't repeat what you just did to your former allies, this time to him/his friends? He has -100 trust in anyone who's given him information or aid to take down their allies, and while he'd be amicable and friendly to them the whole time they're useful, he would never give a solid damn about them. More than that, he'd make sure they'd die one way or the other, very likely in the same manner the person/people they betrayed did. #Retribution

Minor epiphany about worst boy Darkstalker

rereading the books made me realise that by not letting him be conscious for all those thousands of years he quite literally never matured mentally or even emotionally. he never had a chance to ruminate on his actions and he is emotionally and mentally stunted to the point of going beyond the medical definition of severe mental retardation in adults according to the WHO: The World Health Organization (WHO), in its ICD-10, defines mental retardation as a “condition of arrested or incomplete development of the mind, which is especially characterized by impairment of skills manifested during the developmental period, which contribute to the overall level of intelligence, i.e., cognitive, language, motor, and social abilities.” Guidelines suggest that an IQ of less than 70 is indicative of mental retardation. ICD-10 further suggests the use of culturally relevant, standardized measures of social maturity and adaptation for assessing functional abilities. No guidelines are provided, however, on cutoff scores for adaptive behavior deficits. ICD-10 allows for assigning a diagnosis of mental retardation when an individual has both mental retardation and a coexisting mental or physical disorder. I like to think that he could probably be helped, but given that clearsight and fathom's attempt to help probably set him back even farther by skyrim dragonbreaking him, effectively. this is a motherfucker and a bitch who is incapable of self-help without extreme circumstance relative to their own, ever extremifying circumstance. which is why it took him seeing that his soul was as fresh as Margaret thatcher in order to see that maybe automated ethnic cleansing and functionally condemning his "soulmate" to continental-exile-by-shame-and-anxiety, as well as managing to be so horrifically manipulative it took a real-life-narcissist to be a foundation for him, to finally realise that he might need to think this one out before saying a word again. i still don't think that the peacemaker solution is a good idea, but that's a question for book 16 to solve. i still think he could be fixed the same way that hitler was theoretically salvageable before his wunderwaffe obsession and deciding to make friends with his mentally insane cronies in power. with enough therapy, a shock collar and a padded cell he might be barely salvageable to at least get visits from relatives once a month. TL:DR this motherfucker, evil as he is, got a single thing right: he can't catch a break to ruminate on his actions. also he should have gotten the kars treatment of condemnation to eternal consciousness but physical paralysis so as to enter eternity timeout. would it backfire horribly and he festers more than an open sore in Galipoli? knowing tui, probably.
