PSA to artists arriving from twitter: PLEASE add image descriptions to your art!! You know your art best, so you can describe it the best! It can be a simple "Mobei-Jun squeezing Shang Qinghua like a hamster-shaped stress ball" or something more complex like "A digital illustration in a painterly style. Lan Wangji gazes lovingly at Wei Wuxian. They stand in a field at sunset, wearing their donghua outfits." That second example is still pretty simple compared to some I have seen and done. Alt text is great, a description in *normal* plain text under the picture is great. You can include the name of the media the characters are from if you want, or keep it pretty bare bones. Just please please make your art accessible!

From a personal standpoint, I am way more likely to reblog a picture that has alt text or an image ID.

How does one actually get into recording podfics? Like obv you ask the permission of the author but is posting whatever you end up recording to ao3 a faux pas if you don’t actually know if you’ll ever complete it? And like what if the sound quality is bad?

I want to try it but I don’t want to commit to something that I maaaaybe probably can’t follow all the way thru. (The fic im thinking of is novel length)

Doctor Who is celebrating 60 years by releasing over 800 episodes on BBC iPlayer.

The sci-fi fantasy show first premiered in 1963 and has cemented itself as a permanent fixture in pop culture history. This fall, fans will be able to stream the entire 800-plus episode series along with spin-offs like Sarah Jane Adventures, Torchwood, and Class, and the behind-the-scenes series Doctor Who Confidential.

Each Dr Who episode will be made accessible for all Whovians, with subtitles, audio description, and sign language options available for the very first time.

Once again, I am asking gif makers to only include one set of captions per gif, and to leave those captions up for the entire gif. I cannot read it if it disappears every 2 seconds. It’s even worse if it rotates out with other text.

I don’t know if this is a problem that people without vision problems have, or if it’s just my abysmally slow visual acuity, but I can’t really interact with gifs like this. If I really, really care about the content, I can watch the gif cycle 10 or 15 times and try to piece it all together, but I can only keep that up for two, maybe three gifs before I just give up.

There’s also the issue that sometimes gifs just won’t load, so I don’t even know that I’m missing half the meaning.

If the exchange of dialogue is important to the scene, then perhaps you could split it into two gifs. If not, then you could cap it from an uncaptioned source and add the captions yourself in an accessible format.

If the dialogue isn’t important, than just gif an uncaptioned source.

I really do love what you guys do. It just sucks when I can’t enjoy it because the most important part isn’t accessible to me.

Uhhhhh I wonder who the mystery person is.

I thought the idea was funny but I was pretty artblocked when I made this and I’m still trying to figure out how to draw AL-AN (I might redesign everybody a little to fit my artstyle better, that’s been on the bucket list for a long time though.) so the quality of the art isn’t much better than a storyboard- but just pretend like they’re out in the snow.

Also please excuse my horrible handwriting, it looks better on paper I swear

Reminder that you use disability aids on a daily basis, regardless of if you're disabled or not.

Electric toothbrush? Handrails? Automatic door? Sidewalks? Dark mode? Password autocomplete?

You better believe those are disability aids.

Abled people's perception of what is and isn't helpful for disabled people is inherently skewed, since they don't see things that make life simpler as accessibility tools. Nope! By advocating for making things more accessible, it benefits almost everyone!

Update! A kind soul over on twitter let me know that there are pretty reliable AI art checkers online, that have been developed by people specialising in AI and machine learning!

An NYT article also talks about the pros and cons of a number of them.

I tested all the 3 free open access sites (Illuminarty, Optic AI or Not, Umm-Maybe) and only Illuminarty and Optic AI or Not gave consistent results on both art and photographs.

I'll put the links below so anyone can go and check for whichever art they want to (download the original images from tumblr posts, and upload them)

These are the results :

Optic flagged it as AI immediately.

But Illuminarty had very interesting aspect : when I uploaded the full image, AI probability was 10%. but, on cropping out the bottom of the image (jacket) the probability jumped to 73.9%

This is consistent with my original comment on the art here

My limited understanding of these programs indicate that they scan the entire image including all the individual pixels. AI programs like Stable Diffusion, Mid Journey, DallE all leave signal artifacts when they process an image, which is then left on the final pic generated!

Compare these two @/skykashi original arts, that are immediately flagged as human made.

And now I get to my favourite AI art bro in the fandom @madasama! I commend you for admitting that you not only use AI, but are proud of producing a large number of "real" arts in such a short time!
