In winter, the Zao Mountains are covered in soft powder snow, creating ideal skiing conditions. The longest run stretches for 10 kilometers and passes through the famous territory of snow monsters - trees covered with frost and snow, which take on fantastic shapes on frosty days. Zao is not only a winter destination. In summer and autumn, it becomes a hiking destination, thanks to its picturesque mountain trails and the famous Okama Crater, known as the "lake of five flowers". O.R.C.A.’s Directory

(Finally coming back to this concept after several months ^^;)

O.R.C.A. in #re_rise doesn’t just run Alterna in the background and give you orders– it’s a system you interact with regularly as the player; a database that facilitates your adventure and keeps track of your accomplishments. It is accessed through terminals placed at key spots on each site, which you have to find, activate, and physically walk to if you want to use them.

Most of the contents of the Menu (except the Sunken Scrolls) are now consolidated into O.R.C.A., along with a few bonus features~

Alterna Archive: Basically the Alterna Logs– all the information about Alterna’s history, from creation to collapse (referencing my rewritten version of this backstory, of course). As you clear lab spaces with different weapons, earn Golden Eggs, activate terminals, collect Nostalgic Devices, etc., the files will be decrypted line by line. Basically, anything that contributes to your percent completion of the game will count towards this…so just enjoy Alterna the way you like, and you’ll eventually reveal the entire archive without too much extra effort. ^^ This story is O.R.C.A.’s gift to you; your reward for reawakening its home.

Lab Notebook: Notes written by the ‘mysterious researcher’ currently working in Alterna, earned in order from newest to oldest, so we can gradually learn what the Fuzzy Ooze is and why he made it, as well as his origin story and true identity (in his own words~). These replace ‘Log.exe’ from the actual game. Lab notes are found by reaching computers hidden within the lab spaces, kinda like the Power Egg packs. They are purposely placed in the more challenging spaces, and you must clear the space in order to take the note with you– if you wanna learn the main antagonist’s secrets, you gotta put in the work. ^^

Wellness File: Records of Neo Agent 3’s responses to the environment, once you obtain the biometric monitor in Cryogenic Hopetown (more on that later). This is essentially an account of how the player character is feeling at each point in the story– a new entry will be created after each encounter with a major character (Deep Cut, the King Salmonids, the Squid Sisters, etc.) or a particularly interesting Alterna landmark. ;)

Nostalgia Index: List of all the Nostalgic Devices you’ve collected, which Alterna citizens they belonged to, and what they used them for. The citizens’ names are redacted, but you do get to learn a bit about the different kinds of people who lived in Alterna, and connect with them through the items they left behind.

Skill Tree: Basically the same as the in-game version, minus the Hero Shot buffs– in #re_rise you don’t get the Hero Shot until you gain the Hero Gear in the last stretch of the game. Instead you borrow from weapons’ lockers placed around Alterna…meaning you can carry the weapon of your choice as you explore each site, offering you a wider variety of strategies to use on those balloon challenges, for instance. ^^ But I digress…

Camera Roll: One of the Nostalgic Devices you can find is a digital camera, and once you’ve obtained it, you can take pictures with it and upload them to the terminal (as well as your regular photo gallery, when you’re back on the surface). The Alterna Camera comes with its own special filters, and characters you aim it at will pose for you. ^^ This feature is basically just for funzies, but if you can snap a picture of that large figure lurking in the shadows, you’ll earn a special clothing item.

Messages: Occasionally you will receive mysterious messages, warning you with increasing severity to stay out of their laboratory (and bring back their golden eggs…sure sounds familiar). Are these warnings for their sake or for yours…?

Map: Even the site maps are only accessible through the terminals, they’re not available whenever. Maybe that would be a controversial choice…but I think it’d be okay in this instance, since (a) the Alterna islands are pretty small, and (b) I’ve invented a fun system that might help– the Sticker Beakons! ^^

Around Alterna, you can find Sticker Sheets with 3 Sticker Beakons each, to place and replace wherever you want on any island. They shine like actual beacons so you can use them to navigate while you wander around on foot, and once you reach a terminal you can jump to them like normal Squid Beakons. They come in different shapes and designs like the stickers from Hotlantis, and double as actual stickers you can place on your locker, once you’ve found them in Alterna. ^^

I feel like forcing the player to walk around is more forgivable when you give them something cute and customizable like this to play with. :D If you want to use all 18 Sticker Beakons on one island at a time because you’re super directionally-challenged, you can. If you want to use them to simply mark your favorite Alterna landmarks so you can jump to them easily, you can do that too. 

Maybe as a compromise, I might add a ‘Return to Nearest Terminal’ option in the Menu…but I think encouraging the player to get out there and actively explore can’t hurt. Part of my philosophy with this re-concept is to make Alterna an interesting place that the player would WANT to explore, and all these added collectibles are part of that.

this guy has been a real thorn in krebs' side for a year or so and participates in some of the worst corners of the internet, which explains the adversarial nature of the writeup. i read through the whole thing going "yeah this guy is Very annoying but why is krebs so mad at him" and then got to the bottom section about other activities. italicized OH moment in real life but bad.

i have two really snotty thoughts to get out of my brain: the modern letterboxed reviews like "i liked this but the homophobia ruined it" weak. all of you are WEAK.

i appreciate the work of the tumblrinas trying to queer this story in a more 2020s friendly way. however. sam spade canonically calls someone a slur for using cologne that he deems too feminine. the noir detective series you want is Philip Marlowe, who is at least homophobic in interesting and less physically violent ways.

anyway! gorgeous gorgeous movie. mary astor goes toe to fucking toe with bogey in every scene. a very frantic and frightened woman who is one jump ahead of the pathway crumbling behind her at all times. but she takes the jump and makes it! every time! except for the most important one!!!

Charlie Weasley and the utterly complicated matters of the heart - Part 1

a/n: Welcome, this is my very first fanfiction, like ever. I think there is not enough Charlie Weasley fanfiction out there, so I thought I'll take the matter into my hands. It will be long and slow-burning (I warned you!). My native languge is not English, so sorry if you see anything weird.

Part 1: The one where she unexpectedly shows up

The sanctuary was quiet that afternoon, a rare lull after the midday rush of activities. Charlie had been up early, finishing his rounds with the dragons, content in his usual solitude. He has been working here since he was 18 years old, he knew the place like the back of his hand. Today he managed to get back to his quiet cottage quite early, a bit bothered, as the place needed some cleaning, and he was not in the mood for that. All he could hear were birds chirping around the cottage, the mild wind rustling the leaves of the trees around the little cabins, sometimes he could identify very distant roars from dragons. Everything was perfectly calm and undisturbed. Just as he preferred.

Before he could get too comfortable, the sound of a weird muggle-like engine gradually drifted to his ear, cutting through the stillness, unfamiliar and distinctly out of place here in the dragon sanctuary.

He squinted down the road, watching as a figure on a motorbike came into view, maneuvering with steady confidence over the rough roads, directly heading to the empty cabin next to his. Leather jacket, black helmet, a long, blonde braid, brown eyes set with a kind of unshakeable focus that caught him completely off guard. And just like that, you arrived. A newcomer in a place that rarely saw strangers like you. He felt his shoulders tense, uncertain if it was from the disruption or something else entirely.

Charlie watched as you parked the bike, got off, and took a long look around after removing your helmet. He should have been heading back to the cottage, but his feet stayed rooted, his attention fixed on you with a strange, almost unsettling fascination. This was… unlike him, and he didn’t understand it. In his years here, he’d met all sorts of people, most of whom he welcomed with friendly detachment before returning to his world of creatures and wilderness. He liked it that way.

But you… you seemed to be different.

Charlie tried to dismiss the feeling, shaking his head as he moved toward his cabin. His eye never lingered for too long on women, he was absolutely content without any emotional complication in his life, thank you very much.

But as he crossed the yard, he caught your eye for the first time. You were unloading bags from the back of the bike, frowning slightly as if deep in thought. His mouth opened, a casual greeting ready on his tongue, but the moment felt too strange, too weighted. So instead, he called out, “Are you lost?”

The question sounded abrupt, even to him, and for a second he regretted it. What the hell was that, he thought to himself. But you looked up, meeting his gaze with a small, almost bemused smile.

“No. This is exactly where I’m supposed to be.” The words carried a quiet confidence that struck something deep within him, a certainty he couldn’t help but secretly admire, though he didn’t quite understand it. There was a gravity about you, something he hadn’t expected and didn’t know how to place.

Charlie nodded and gave you a quick, awkward smile, then decided to make his way to the sanctuary’s far edge instead, where the older dragons basked in the afternoon light. Maybe some distance and physical work could put his mind to ease. But as he worked, his thoughts kept drifting back to you, each image accompanied by an irritating pull of curiosity that left him feeling strangely out of balance. Why was he so intrigued? It made no sense, and that only fueled his frustration. 

As he worked, memories of the way you’d looked at him replayed in his mind. The way you’d said, “Exactly where I’m supposed to be.” For most people, it would have been a simple response, but from you, it had felt layered, as though it held a secret he could not uncover. He found himself wondering what had brought you here - why someone like you would seek out a place so far removed from everything else.

Charlie exhaled sharply, annoyed at himself. This isn’t my business, he told himself. You were here for your own reasons, reasons he had no right or need to know. Yet despite his best efforts, he couldn’t shake the feeling that there was more to you - a complexity, a vulnerability that you kept carefully tucked away. He found himself wanting to know what it was.

By the evening, he was almost irritable with himself, annoyed that his mind kept circling back to you with something he couldn’t control. He tried to redirect his attention, his hands moving automatically as he worked on trying to fix a ragged harness. Yet, with each task, his mind betrayed him, your face returning to him unbidden - the way your gaze had met his, unwavering, but guarded. It made him feel as if he’d caught a glimpse of something rare, something he wasn’t supposed to see.

Later, he spotted you again, this time outside your cottage, looking around with an expression that seemed somehow both lost and determined. He watched you from a distance, a slight frown creasing his brow. It was strange, seeing you here, a newcomer in a place he had always felt belonged to him alone. And it was even stranger to find that he actually didn’t really mind your presence. In fact, he found it… grounding, somehow.

His confusion only deepened when he noticed the way his gaze lingered, the way he felt drawn to you in a way he hadn’t been drawn to anyone in years. He’d never been one for relationships or entanglements. His brothers joked that he was as wild as the dragons he cared for, untamed and he was perfectly happy to remain that way. Romance wasn’t something he’d ever prioritized, and he’d been fine with that. Better than fine, even.

But now, as he watched you, a series of feelings he couldn’t quite name flickered to life, leaving him uncertain and unsteady. It was like the moment before a dragon took flight: an anticipation that hung heavy in the air, tinged with the thrill of the unknown. He wanted to brush it off, convince himself that it was simply curiosity. But deep down, he knew he was lying to himself.

So as the sun dipped below the hills, casting the sanctuary in deepening shadows, Charlie found himself moving toward your cottage again, his steps slow, hesitant. He stopped a few paces away, then cleared his throat. “Is it… is it what you expected?”

What was again this sentence, he cringed silently.

You looked up, surprised by his approach. There was a softness to your expression, a hint of vulnerability that made his chest tighten, he couldn’t explain why.

“It’s… different,” you said, a faint smile tugging at the corner of your mouth. “But it feels right.” Your words held a quiet strength that left him unsettled and oddly comforted at the same time.

He nodded, unsure of what else to say. His heart beat strangely, a little too fast, and he felt as though he’d forgotten how to speak entirely. After a moment, he managed to stammer, “If you… if you ever need anything, you know… help with, uh, anything, just let me know.”

It was a simple offer, something he might have extended to any new arrival. But this time, it felt different. Personal. Almost vulnerable. And as he spoke, he saw the faintest flicker of gratitude in your eyes, a glimmer that sent another inexplicable rush of warmth through him.

You nodded, that small, cautious smile still in place, and thanked him. The moment felt strangely intimate, like an unspoken connection coming to life in the brief silence that hung between you. Charlie found himself wanting to linger, to keep talking, to understand the thoughts and experiences that lay behind your guarded gaze.

But instead, he took a step back, feeling the need to retreat before he said or did something stupid, that would betray that strange turmoil roiling within him. He mumbled a quick goodbye, then turned, heading back to his cottage with a sense of relief mixed with regret.

As he walked away, the conflicting emotions inside him only grew stronger. Part of him wanted to understand why he felt this sudden, intense need to know you, to unravel the layers that you seemed to guard so closely. Another part of him resisted, warning him against getting too close, against letting himself be drawn into something he might not understand.

In his years at the sanctuary, Charlie had found comfort in solitude, in the knowledge that his life was his own, uncomplicated and free from the expectations of others. But now, with you here, that simplicity felt strangely lacking, like a weight he hadn’t known he was carrying. He wanted to ignore the feeling, to brush it aside as an unusual curiosity. But the truth was undeniable: in just a few short hours, you had unknowningly disrupted his world, stirring up feelings he wasn’t ready to face at all.

As the shadows of the night deepened and he settled back into his cabin, Charlie found himself thinking of you yet again, your face imprinted in his mind. He didn’t know what to make of it, and he wasn’t sure he wanted to. All he knew was that something had changed—something he couldn’t fully understand yet, but that felt as exhilarating as it was terrifying.

Been seeing a lot of posts going around talking about the way kids are being taught to read these days and, as a mother to a 1st grader, I have some thoughts.

It should go without saying that the best way to ensure your kid can read, and not just read, but comprehend and be able to apply critical thought to what they’ve read, is to build a strong foundation at home before they ever even set foot in a classroom. Don’t rely on overworked and underpaid teachers to give your child the specific attention they need; that is your job. It is your job to regularly read to your child and be seen reading by them to normalize reading and instill a love for it in them. If you make reading a burden and a chore, it will always seem like a burden and a chore to them. If you struggle with reading for any reason, there are countless videos online of people reading kids books. Watch Sesame Street with them, stream old Reading Rainbows, ask a friend or family member to set up reading dates with your child, take them to the library for story hour; there are any number of ways to ensure your child gets read to and sees others reading during their formative years.

And more than just reading to them, TALK TO THEM about what you read. Go over things, discuss your feelings about what you just read even if it’s just The Giving Tree (we have LOTS of differing thoughts on the giving tree in this household), you would be surprised and delighted at what your child takes from a book. Give them the gift of not just reading, but of COMPREHENSION. The thing that scares me is you have all these kids guessing at what words they’re reading and guessing at their meaning. How can you really comprehend a text if you don’t know what half the words are? I used to have a friend who spelled just….atrociously. But he wrote sentences well enough that you could extrapolate what he meant most of the time. Now you have kids who can’t spell and they’re reading and writing incomprehensible sentences. What’s going to happen in high school when they’re given a book to read and analyze? How are they going to understand the actual messages being told? It’s not a real albatross, it’s metaphorical, but most of the kids won’t be able to even read the word albatross or they won’t know what one is and they won’t understand metaphors, so you’ll have some freshman teacher trying to teach something that requires multiple elements of knowledge, none of which these kids have.

Even when you watch movies with your kid, talk about them afterwards. Discuss the characters and their motives, talk about why certain characters chose certain things and what you may have done differently. We would read Roald Dahl books with our kid and then watch the movie adaptation and compare the two. We do that with any kids book we find that has a movie adaptation, and he delights in recognizing things from the books in the movie, seeing where things are different, why they might have made that directorial choice, why that character was left out or melded into one. Take any chance you can to help your kid exercise their brain; it helps make learning easier. Let them make decisions, let them be involved, encourage them to be active participants in life and your family. All of this will make it so that they’re more eager to learn, more driven to succeed, and better able to adapt. So much of education is this many layered, multi-pronged approach and you can’t really neglect any aspect of it too much.

You can’t just send your kid to school with no support at home and then blame the teachers who are teaching 24 kids alongside your one. You can’t just never read and always be on your phone and expect your kid to love reading. You can’t ignore your kid and their opinions and expect them to form good opinions. You can’t make all the decisions for your kid and then expect them to develop critical thinking skills. You can’t ignore all these aspects and then act surprised when you have an adult child who can’t read and if they can they don’t know what it means and if they do know what it means they can’t critically analyze it and develop an opinion on it and they just repeat buzzwords from stuff that they recognize, call it an “informed opinion” and go on making the world a worse place to be.

Read to your kids. Read with them. Read in front of them. Talk to your kids. Ask their opinion. Compare and contrast things. Build their brains up so that they crave knowledge and not just empty stimulation.

Aww, liked the white snake cross scout story a lot! Perhaps my fave cross scout story after Intelligence.

Eichi is arranging ES Idol Directory, a sort of official fanbook with idols' profiles that both fans and professionals could use to get to know ES idols. He is picking one idol from each agency to serve as "cover star" for the book, with new photos and interview attached. He chose Hokuto for StarPro and Tsumugi recommended Izumi for NewDi.

Nagisa had had Eden fighting monsters in Seisoukan courtyard dream and in the end there was a white snake he was really intrigued by. He told Kaoru about the dream and Kaoru remembered white snake is a sign of good luck and fortune and said that maybe it was precognitive dream and Nagisa would find one for real.

Nagisa got excited and went looking for white snake in Seisoukan courtyard. Tetora got surprised when Nagisa suddenly emerged from the bushes and after hearing the story wanted to help. Rei was thinking of napping under the tree when he saw them too. Nagisa explained again and Rei said Kaoru is a bad man to lead on Nagisa like that (lolol) but Nagisa assured it was his own decision, Kaoru isn't at fault.

Rei said he'd help too, then. Tetora noted they are so cool on stage, like final bosses, but they have surprise childish side. Nagisa and Rei then bonded over how they are doing "childish" things now because they couldn't as kids (waaaahhhh 😭).

They didn't find white snake and came back to Seisoukan all dirty. They did find lost dog toys though. :D Eichi, Hokuto and Izumi arrived. After explanations and some banter, Eichi asked if Nagisa and Rei want to be CosPro and RhythLin representatives for ES Idol Directory. They agreed.

They meet for interview part. Eichi had questions ready but the others complain that they are too mundane. Eichi thinks on it and wonders how to make it interesting and to get them more relaxed with each other. So he suggested looking for the white snake for real.

They go on a mountain, apparently owned by Tenshouins (yeah ok). Eichi said he released a white snake on the mountain (no worries, they are keeping track of the snake, it won't cause harm) and Nagisa, Rei, Hokuto and Izumi will look for it. He made it a competition of course, they split into pairs NagiRei / HokuIzu. Tetora was brought in to film the competition and he's giving enthusiastic and loud commentary, Eichi tells him to speak in normal voice and Tetora is like "this is my normal voice!". Eichi just watching lolol.

Hokuto & Izumi bantered a lot, they are so funny together. Izumi grumpy all the time but Hokuto answers everything with his Hokuto-deadpan way, unaffected. Nagisa and Rei wandered around the mountain forest with no luck. Then they find a cave. Rei is feeling uneasy and he recalls the time he went to a cave and swarm of bats surrounded him (Surfing Ocean story! Pathetic Rei Moment!), Nagisa is curious and Rei tells him to ask Kaoru about it later. There are no bats fortunately.

Hokuto and Izumi were there too, they had found the snake but it was too quick, it's hiding in a hole (Izumi also didn't want to touch the snake, yelling Hokuto to get it). Nagisa then caught the snake but it turns out to be hair, Wataru's hair! With Wataru attached, of course. :D Wataru then does magic trick to summon Eichi and he explains it would have been irresponsible to release a real snake, so he asked Wataru's help.

Eichi congratulated NagiRei pair and Rei asked why there isn't a prize, Eichi is rich but so stingy *poutpout*. Eichi then said ok, he'll grant them one wish, what do they want? Rei let Nagisa decide. Nagisa had been interested in Mystery Researchers Club and had wanted to join but Ibara said it would be too hard to keep track of Nagisa if he went all around with them, so he didn't join (Ibara youuuuu... 😭), so he wanted to be a guest in their activities. He asked Eichi to pay him and Mystery Researchers a trip to Okinawa. Eichi agreed, so Nagisa, Rei, Tsumugi, Makoto, Nazuna and Kanata got an all-expenses-paid trip to Okinawa to look for power spots and legendary creatures (and spend time on the beach).

Later, Eichi is happy with ES Idol Directory, they (the six scout characters) talk a little bit about the new idol profiles and their hobbies. Hokuto pokes Izumi about his "bullying juniors" in old profile. Nagisa gives them souvenirs from Okinawa and it's so Nagisa-like. 😅 He gives each a shisa statue with their face on them. 😂 And he's like "I'd be happy if you displayed them in your rooms. 😊"

Nagisa is really happy with how all things came together, his dream and new job and Okinawa trip, it was indeed lucky. ❤️

Danny Phantom stumbled a landing on the gravelly roof of a building. He bent over and put his hands on his knees, catching his breath.

Danny had enjoyed fighting Ember for all of five minutes. She took control of a little gig at the record store, he showed up to save the day (with the Fenton Fones in, of course. He learned his lesson with her), witty banter, blah blah blah, now she'd end up in the Fenton Thermos.

It was almost a relief having someone to fight. Something to distract him and keep him from being crushed under the pressure of his reality. Something to make his life feel normal. Or— it was, until he spotted a clock and realized he was officially late for a history lesson with Frostbite. The Observants would no doubt be on him for it. He could practically hear them; he can’t even make it to a history lesson on time, how is he qualified to be King of the Infinite Realms?

“Look. You’ve had your fun, you got your attention… if you let these people go, I won’t put you in the Thermos today.” Danny tried to keep his stance somewhere between non-threatening and ready to pounce, just in case Ember wasn’t willing to back down.

Ember rolled her eyes and crossed her arms over her chest with a huff. “Fine. You’re off your game, anyway. There’s no satisfaction when your heart’s not in it.”

“Wow," said Danny, "you’re so thoughtful.”

“Hey, I may be a ghost, but I do have a little human decency left.”

Danny snorted. “Tell that to the media right now. Anti-ecto propaganda is making a comeback.” He cringed a little as soon as it came out. Why did he say that? He didn’t need to vent about his problems to Ember, and it’s not like she cared anyway.

“Hasn’t that… always been a thing?” Ember cocked her head and raised an eyebrow.

“Just go give those people their free will again,” Danny said with a dismissive wave.

“They’ll be fine for a few more minutes. Tell me what’s going on, kiddo.”

“I mean… in a nutshell, the ‘all ghosts are crap’ stuff stopped around the time I stopped being actively hunted every time I did anything,” Danny explained.

“Wow. Public opinion changed that much in the last— what, year?”

“I thought so, but there’s been all this talk lately about how ghosts and humans aren't 'supposed' to interact, and how ghosts are, like, 'scientifically unable to behave themselves' or whatever. They make it so it doesn't sound evil, but… it’s just a lot to deal with right now.” Danny ran a hand through his hair. He was exhausted, his body ached, and he really just wanted this conversation to be over so he could get to his last scheduled task of the day before he could go home and maybe get some sleep. “Look, I’m late for a meeting right now, appreciate the heart-to-heart, but if you’ll just work with me here I really need to get going.”

Ember stood back up, brushing herself off as if she’d actually been sitting on the roof and not hovering a few inches above it. “Alright, I’ll get outta here then. Thanks for not putting me in your stupid soup container.”

“Yeah, whatever. You might not get so lucky next time.” Danny gave her a half-smile.

They both made a move to go their separate ways when flashing lights in the distance caught their attention.

“What’s going on over there?” Ember asked, squinting.

“Uh, hopefully something that won’t be my problem,” Danny responded.

White vehicles had surrounded what looked to be the Dairy King on the edge of town. There was a moment of chaos as people in body armor rushed into the building and others ran out.

The pair glanced at each other, silently deciding that this wasn’t something they should get involved in.

“See ya, babypop,” Ember said with a mocking salute to Danny. She headed back in the direction of the record store while Danny gave the Dairy King one last, lingering look before leaving.

Four in custody following Dairy King raid

The Garrison Irving Walker Commission took four ghostly employees into custody following a raid at the Amity Park Dairy King Thursday.

The GIW discovered the four ghosts employed at Dairy King during routine patrols of Amity Park. GIW operatives raided the restaurant Thursday evening and took them into custody.

“By incorporating themselves into human society, ectoplasmic entities give the public a false idea that they can trust them like humans. They are posing as employees at businesses around town, high school students and who knows what else,” Operative Q, a senior operative with the GIW, said.

No current law explicitly forbids ghosts from working in customer service, but given that they are unable to legally obtain the required paperwork to be employed, the situation at the Dairy King is being investigated. There is currently no policy in place defining ghosts and their relation to living things. In addition, the GIW deemed their employment unsafe to the public. A GIW representative said the entities will be used for research and disposed of.

Dairy King management offered no comment regarding awareness of the employees being ghosts during the hiring process. The restaurant will be closed temporarily due to short staffing.
