I'm not trying trying to do a full on "the creators are morons" or anything arrogant like that, but I will say that Miguel being the one who programmed Lyla in ATSV is an annoying change. Like the whole "she's his only friend" thing is kinda funny/sad but also...
XINA.
#xina kwan#miguel ohara#miguel o'hara#spiderman 2099#obviously the creators need to change stuff for the adaptation and a lot of the changes are good#but i think its also fair for people to prefer comic details#like miguels new design? excellent#him not having natural webbing anymore? i am ignoring it#my workaround headcanon is that the webs were hard to use with the holographic suit so he made substitute webs#so he still has the spinnerets but just doesnt use them most times#i need to stop writing so much in the tags

While it's on the mind, here's my wings of fire designs too. Not as much of a brainrot but still fun. Bad take or am I cooking with some of them? Let me know in the comments. Here's some (too many) notes:
I really liked the original designs when I first read these books, but I wanted to try my hand at uhh changing them a little. Mainly making them more distinct from each other (even if this irreversibly breaks canon XD)
-Sandwings live in a mixed savannah and desert habitat and have bodies adapted for resource scarcity, effective hunting, and heat dispersion. They have large ears to help cool off and listen for stuff. They can fly, but pretty weakly in comparison to some others, mainly using flight to navigate their large territories , get onto cliffs, and scan for prey. They typically climb up somewhere and then jump off. They are built like felines, and use a solo stalk and rushdown hunting approach coupled with a sting instakill. They live in family groups, with a ‘queen’ title going to the alpha female 💪 and everyone else hunting and living together. They are immune to their own venom, which acts very similarly to a scorpion’s but in a massive dose, causing numbness, breathing difficulties seizures, and eventually death. It takes time for them to make more once they’ve expended the dose, so they rarely use it outside of hunting or life/death situations (though the prospect of being stung is very scary to everyone else, and they will instinctively raise their tail when startled or threatened)
-Skywings live in high mountainous and forested areas, with some living in the lowlands. They are powerful flyers and very acrobatic due to their tail, though this comes at the expense of their agility on land and the strength of their non wing arms. They have long legs with powerful talons for grasping prey midair or snatching them from off the ground. They hunt and live alone unless they have a partner. Communities are made up of a loose group of related individuals who rarely collect in one place at once(queendom structure are a more recent and ‘unnatural’ thing for them, but very useful for organizing military efforts and empire building). They stay aloft for long periods of time and usually only land on their cliff homes. They need a sprint or a takeoff point to get flying, though. Unlike every other tribe, they have a noticeable difference between male and female (being a nose horn and red face for males.) males are prized for these features, and having a pretty husband is seen as an attractive trait for a queen.
-Seawings live along the coast. They normally only venture out of the water for trade and other resources, since they can get everything else they need underwater. Their large neck houses gills protected by thick pads that will close when on land, while their lungs are in their mid chest. Primarily adapted to swimming, they have very strong tails and webbed fingers and toes. They will also use their wings to steer and paddle, as well as manipulate things their other arms can’t reach. They will hunt in packs, corralling fish and other animals into a kill zone. They are very clumsy on land and in the air with their short limbs and weak wings. Their bioluminescent spots can be flashed for communication, and compared to the other tribes they have pretty poor vocal ability (due to the gills in their neck getting in the way) and will supplement with other spot/sign signals. Every individual has unique spots, though their glowing ones come in consistent numbers, sizes, patterns, and places on their body so they can use them for common language across their group. However, Different groups from different parts of the ocean have different numbers of spots in different areas, making cross communication via only spots difficult. Their whiskers help navigate in close or dark areas, and are seen as a status symbol.
-Mudwings live in warmer areas, specifically marshes and other wetlands (though sometimes in some forested areas too). Their thick armor helps protect them from other mudwings/competition, while also acting as an insulator that allows them to easily venture a wider range than other tribes from warm climates. Physically, they are the strongest and bulkiest. They typically use the element of surprise and their overwhelming size and strength to take down large prey. However, unlike other tribes they tend to eat more plants too due to their large size (all of them are technically omnivores, but meat makes up the dominant part of their diet because of their energy needs and their ancestors). They are also the poorest flyers out of the bunch, having sacrificed that for size and strength, though they can do short bursts similar to a chicken to get to hard to reach areas or to surprise attack prey faster than them, they’re similar to hippos and are adapted to living in the water too, using powerful webbed arms to propel themselves and dig through the mud, and their large lung capacity to stay submerged and hidden for long periods. Their nostrils, ears, and eyes are located near the top of their head, which also gives more room for Tusks. They use these to root around occasionally defend themselves. Tusk maintenance and appearance is very important to them. They live in large groups of families in the same area and have more communal social standards than other tribes.
-Rainwings live in tropical areas and have a very small habitat range. This has caused them to look and act very different than most tribes, leading to poor perception of them. They use their long claws, strong grasping fingers, and prehensile tail to climb around, and are pretty much arboreal. They have wings meant for quick takeoffs and flight in dense areas, and are pretty agile and swift. They and aren’t that great at sustained flight or dealing with high altitudes and winds though . Their frill is delicate and used for emoting (probably originally for mating purposes) Their skin is packed with chromatophores that they can use to match their surroundings, and they have loose ridges in their skin that they can raise to enhance the effect. Their skin is constantly changing color due to their brain activity, though they have set patterns/colors for emotions and communication. They can also choose to focus on organizing their skin patterns to get coordinated colors and patterns, since normally it’s pretty disorganized. They eat a lot more plants due to their environment and due to social standards, but arent herbivores. They have the ability to spit acid out of hollow retractable fangs, and use precise shots of this coupled with their camouflage ability to get prey. They can also spray it at higher velocities for defense and offense, though this expends their supply much quicker. They don’t recognize a queen in their communities and are fairly disorganized into different cooperative groups.
-Nightwings are the result of a group that split off onto an island, though the volcanic activity on their original island escalated to the point where they had to emigrate. They are great fliers, using their wings and tail extensions to travel great distances to track prey and ambush from above. When on land, they aren’t particularly fast or strong, and instead are built for persistence. Their hunting tactic involves getting an initial bite onto prey, then waiting for it to succumb to infection. Their spines, horns, muscles, and talons are mainly for defending their kill from other Nightwings rather than hunting it in the first place. As a result of this competition, they aren’t naturally very social like other tribes, They are mainly nocturnal.
-Icewings live in the colder tundras and snowy forest environments. They are pack hunters, using their speed and persistence to take down prey, similar to wolves. Their long overlapping scales help them trap heat and survive in the cold, and while the guy i drew here is pretty skinny they also store fat much more readily than other tribes. Their bowed wings are mainly used to swoop in in prey, and like falcons they often take steep dives to grapple it. Their antlers only grow in at a certain time in the year, but royalty will wear embellished artificial ones in the meantime.
#my two vasly different dragon media interests#the httyd book dragons are also intelligent but unlike the wof ones i never imagine them wearing clothes and theyre never referenced#using tools or really wearing jewlery or building things they live in packs like animals but many of them can carry on a convo with a human#comparatively id say that the main difference is that the wof have a distinct grouping and relationship between the types of dragon while#in the httyd books those guys are just Everywhere and Everything#and also Humans are a major part of httyd while theyre just kinda weird little creatures in wof#wof art#wings of fire#wof#drawing

"The universe never tells us if we did right or wrong. By the 24th century, humanity has conquered the cosmos. However, life has remained anything but easy. In The Expanse: Osiris Reborn, a story-driven sci-fi Action RPG, you play as a Pinkwater Security mercenary whose brief shore leave on the asteroid Eros spirals out of control. Trapped in a deadly lockdown and drawn into a solar system-wide conspiracy far beyond your control, you’ll have to adapt, survive, taking command of the most advanced ship in the whole of the solar system. Create and customize your own captain — Earther, Martian, or Belter — and lead a crew of highly-skilled specialists as you face off against escalating threats, political pressure, and a relentless enemy that will stop at nothing to see you dead. In a solar system held together by fragile alliances, every decision leaves its mark. Trust isn’t given – it’s earned. Your companions are more than just mission assets — they are people with their own scars and loyalties. Some chase redemption. Others hide their truths. Over time, your relationships will flourish or deteriorate depending on the choices you make and how you choose to lead. The ship becomes your home — a place where trust is earned, not given. Dynamic third-person combat. Fight in third-person utilizing cover-focused gunplay and abilities. Two companions will accompany you into the field while others will support from a distance: disabling systems or drawing the enemies’ attention. You will issue real-time commands and have to adapt quickly to survive the manifold threats the system will throw at you. The fractured world of The Expanse. Visit iconic locations like Ganymede, Ceres, Mars, and Luna. Walk through ruined habitats and political strongholds mired in unease and tension. Talk to the locals. Uncover secrets. Use your skills to influence what happens next. The system looks different from every planet and from every asteroid. Some are falling apart. Others just hide it better. You may even come across a familiar face or voice that reminds you of just how small the system really is."
[source: Steam]
"INTRODUCTION The Expanse: Osiris Reborn is a third-person sci-fi action RPG set in the universe of The Expanse, where the tenuous balance of power between Earth, Mars, and the Belt is on the brink of collapse, and trust is a scarce commodity. Now it is time to gather a crew and find your own path through the web of lies to leave your mark on the solar system. By the 24th century, humanity has conquered the cosmos, but that hasn't made life any easier. What begins as a brief sojourn on the asteroid Eros reluctantly entangles you in a solar system-wide conspiracy. You will need to adapt to survive and keep your motley crew united in their mission as everything around you begins to fall apart. This is your story. The Expanse: Osiris Reborn offers a truly personal journey that evolves based on the choices you make and the pressures they place on everything you stand for. CHARACTERS Your crew is more than just backup — they’re the heart of your story. Each companion brings with them their own personal history and motives for joining the mission, though not all are easy to uncover. They’re more than just specialists. Some are haunted by past mistakes. Others hold on dearly to loyalty, survival, or even something they’ve never been capable of fully putting into words. The ship becomes your shared home — it’s not just a command center but a place where the crew can bond and where trust is earned. A single shared silence might become the foundation for a much deeper connection. A single decision could overturn it all. The way you lead your crew and the choices you make under pressure will shape every relationship in ways you don’t always see coming. COMBAT Combat in The Expanse: Osiris Reborn is tactical and built around smart decision-making under pressure, where every move has the potential to shift the balance of a fight. Control your captain in third-person, and gain the upper hand by making use of a variety of weapons, tactics (cover, command, etc.), and specialized abilities. The game features multiple roles, each offering a distinct approach that reflects your personal playstyle. Two companions will fight alongside you, supporting whatever strategy you choose with complementary skills. Others will assist from a distance, hacking into systems or drawing enemies’ attention right when you need it most. You will issue commands in real time and coordinate with your squad to stay one step ahead as the battlefield evolves. Survival depends on how quickly you can adapt and who you trust to stand with you when your back is to the wall. EXPLORATION The Expanse: Osiris Reborn opens into a narrative-driven world where shifting power dynamics and personal choices will define your experience. You’ll visit the marvel that is the gardens of Ganymede, the teeming slums of Ceres, whole bunker complexes veiled in vastness of the Asteroid Belt, and the imperious political bastions of Mars and Luna. As you travel throughout the solar system, you will be ensnared in a cyclone of power struggles and unresolved conflict. The system looks different from every planet and from every asteroid. Some are falling apart. Others just hide it better. Talk to the locals and use your skills to influence the outcomes, sometimes by digging into secrets some may wish remained buried. You may even cross paths with those who have already made their indelible mark on this universe. What you learn and how you act upon it can open new paths and slowly and subtly change your place in the world around you."

Quartervirus' UC Neopets: 🦇 DARIGAN Edition 🦇
It's long overdue, ugly as hell, and the code so basic even Web 1.0 is shaking its head, but after sitting on them for months I have FINALLY uploaded my Darigan Neopet Redesigns to
Dregnost the Krawk's PetPage!
The restoration of old, unconverted art via NCUCs has made all my 12-year-old Dreamies come true and I will be singing TNT's praises forever for that. However, there are still so many Paint Brushes out there and many more designs that feel uninspired to me.
I have been playing Neopets virtually nonstop since 2003 and credit the site for turning me onto art and the games industry as a career. It has been instrumental in my development as an artist and whetted my appetite for creativity and storytelling, and it has been an honour to work with them in an official capacity this year, and so much fun trying my hand at adapting the art I thought could use improving with these redraws.
If you like these designs, please feel free to share them (with proper links and credit) on the Neoboards or appropriate, official channels! Who knows, maybe if we get enough eyes on them TNT might make one or two of these official!
Or better yet, hire me for the job!
I'll draw your Neopets for you!!

If there are any fellow Neopians out there, feel free to drop me a Neomail or send a Neofriend request! But please do tell me who you are so I know who I'm adding.

Stuff From My Weaselle Head
Did you know there are mink in California?
I've only seen one in the wild ONE TIME and i couldn't figure out what i was looking at
it was like 10 years ago and i was like whoa that was the smallest most dangerous nutria i've ever seen!
that's a joke about people thinking weasels are rodents -- nutria are invasive rodents that are just like if a beaver gave up its engineering degree and more than half its body weight, check it out
here's a nutria
the biggest nutria will weigh about 20lbs (9kg) and
here's a beaver
(which max out around 65lbs, or 30kg)
they are both water-adapted rodents (huge, webbed back feet, tho the nutria's tail isn't as specialized) that live in and at the edge of water and eat woody plants (beavers eat trees, nutria eat stuff like cattails)
Nutria don't build dams, but a few years ago, some native beavers in the Portland area and some invasive nutria were observed building a dam together! which is interesting, especially as beaver do sometimes engage in cooperative co-habitation with muskrats.
okay so muskrats are another aquatic rodent with the same design but tiny -- they weigh around 3 pounds (1.3kg)
Muskrat
and sometimes a mated pair of muskrats will spend the winter in a beaver lodge with a mated pair of beavers. The beavers store food for the winter under the cold water (keeps it good like a fridge) and go out and bring back food every day or two. The muskrats eat the more tender bits from the branches the beavers bring in and sleep in the safe warm den, but the muskrats sort of pay rent by going out every couple days and collecting reed stems etc and changing out the bedding that lines and insulates the inside of the beaver's lodge.
ANYWAY. No, for real tho, rodents aside, when i saw the mink, what i actually wondered for a second was "are there tiny river otters in california?"
River otters come in all kinds of sizes, from as small as a little kitty to as big as a person, so. It was a reasonable guess. And it turns out there is actually a river otter species that lives in California, but they are bigger, they get up to 30 lbs (13kg)
N. American River Otter
That's not what i saw tho. Nope, what i saw was an American Mink.
American Mink are semi-aquatic, they are sort of in-between a ferret and a river otter. They weigh about 2lbs (1kg) and look like this
American Mink

and the one i saw was swimming

and i mean like this on the surface but also diving and rolling and sort of scurrying around through the water, proper otter behavior. Like, i couldn't see as deep as this, but look

They totally do otter shit. So you can't blame me for wondering if i had seen an otter.
But it was a mink! I didn't even know there was a native mink here, and it made me learn we also have ermine too! This is an ermine

They are colored brown with a white belly like a common weasel for half the year, and i didn't know there were little river otters OR ermine in California until i was looking up stuff because of that mink i saw :)
Seeing it swim around in the wild was at least as exciting as that time i saw a fisher!
Sort of getting back to the nutria vs. beavers thing, fishers are like a giant marten, basically. A marten is a tree weasel that can weigh a max of maybe 3lbs (1.3kg) . A fisher (sometimes called a fisher cat) is, like, 96% identical to a marten but way bigger, maxing out around 16lbs (7.25kg).
here's what martens look like

and here's what fishers look like

despite their name, fishers aren't aquatic and don't eat many fish. They, like martens, are semi-arboreal (spend a lot of time in trees) and have a diet nearly identical to other martens (mice, rabbits, eggs, berries, basically anything else they can get their teeth on, and a lotta squirrels)
you could easily mistake one

for the other

if it weren't for the size difference

notable categories of wing restraint
type A: elaborately adapted shibari ties, designed to showcase as much as restrict. true virtuosos of the art display their subjects in intricate midair suspensions, wings drawn out and set like the work of a taxidermist, birds hung in the hardpoint-to-hardpoint webs of unseen tarantulae. red rope is, as ever, a popular choice, complimenting or contrasting the plumage of most common morphs.
type B: gear, paired or monowing sheathes in canvas, latex, leather; claustrophobic, and thus best suited for punishment. harness-style binders are also available, if tactile access or an unpanicked angel is a concern.
type C: ratchet straps. you know, those things they use for lashing cargo to flatbeds? you can get them at any hardware store; some angels just don't deserve better.

Got an exciting commission by an anonymous client to design a dragon based on varanids (the group including komodo dragons and monitor lizards.)
These are some concept sketches to explore the design.
The first one is based more on the arboreal species, the blue, black and emerald tree monitors. I'd imagine it gliding through thick forests looking for insects and perhaps small mammals. It has those little parietal eyes to sense sudden changes in light to give it an early warning of a bigger predator above it. With long claws to clamber up trees and I just had to include that long spiraling tail the tree monitors have!
The second is based on water monitors, with more aquatic adaptations. This one doesn't really have wings, it's based on those kind of wing/fin like structures on medieval dragon art combined with exaggerated skin folds. It also has webbed toes and more webbing on its tail.
The third is a big apex predator, largely based on komodo dragons but with a spiny tail inspired by ackie monitors, and some spines on his neck to complete the look. It has the typical dragon body plan with four legs and a pair of wings, though depending on how fantastical this project is I don't think it would be able to fly. Instead it might use them to aid in sunning and intimidating rivals.

a while ago i designed a sea serpent that would serve as the source for myrddin's blood, and then a little while after that i designed lindwurms and said they were related to sea serpents. i've now done a fair bit more development and design work for the lindwurms than i did for the serpents, so i thought i'd revisit these guys with that relation in mind. (and all of this is subject to change once i start actually writing the story that involves a serpent)
sea serpents are, predictably, dragons that live in the sea. evolution is debatable in a world where magic and gods measurably exist, but adaptation is adaptation. they've developed dorsal fins on their back and a large webbed tail to act as a paddle/rudder. they don't have gills, but have incredibly powerful lungs that can hold a breath for hours. their forelimbs are mainly used for climbing onto land to access nesting sites, and for carrying nest objects. they live in warm, coastal waters, and adults hunt seals and seal-sized critters, but will take anything they can fit in their mouths. they don't generally go after humanoids outside of mating season, when males are on the hunt for treasure to present to females. trade ships needing to pass through known serpent territory will throw a tribute over the side to appease males, who might otherwise knock the ship over in search of fine loot (and it would be a waste not to eat the drowned sailors).
like most dragons, the males construct nests of treasure for females, and will draw them there to see it. if the nest is to her satisfaction, they'll mate, and she'll move in to lay her eggs, while the male hunts to feed her. sea serpents are unique in their industriousness--given good nesting sites are hard to find and at the mercy of the tide, males will maintain multiple at once, just in case. this can lead to a lot of forgotten hoards, and outright property theft by opportunistic males (and treasure hunting humans). especially successful males may end up with multiple mates at different nests, and then he's on the hook to feed them all.
sea serpent mating seasons are dependent on mysterious influences in the tides, lunar cycle, and available foodstock, and so can have gaps of years between them. wurmlets are about a foot long when they hatch, and will be led by their mother to kelp forests, large sargassum mats, and coral reefs , where they'll be left to grow up on their own in the safety of the vegetation. juveniles will drape themselves in whatever is available for camouflage, until they're big enough to defend themselves. nesting females may adopt this strategy when guarding their eggs, if the material is locally available, leading casual observers to think females literally grow kelp for hair.
and here's a lindwurm for comparison
