Card Thoughts of the Day #2 (08/30/2023) Another metagame destroying entry already? SPYRAL Double Helix, released in the set Circuit Break (CIBR) in 2017, is a Link-2 monster belonging to the World Premiere SPYRAL theme. It allows the user to Special Summon any SPYRAL monster from their deck by successfully calling the type of card on top of your opponent's deck, a gimmick shared by many other SPYRAL monsters, while also being treated as "SPYRAL Super Agent" on the field. Before the release of Double Helix, SPYRAL was considered to be a weak theme. This was primarily because many SPYRAL cards (But mainly SPYRAL Quik-Fix) needed the user to control SPYRAL Super Agent on the field to use their effects, but because the basic Super Agent was limited to either a Normal Summon or a gamble reliant Special Summon, it was difficult to reliably get him on the field. Other monsters were able to take SPYRAL Super Agent as their name, such as "SPYRAL Tough" but they were equally difficult to get on the field. Ironically, many of the most powerful SPYRAL cards later on were released in the first wave of cards (SPYRAL GEAR - Big Red, SPYRAL Quik-Fix, SPYRAL GEAR - Drone), and were seen as having a lot of potential.

Double Helix, by being an Extra Deck monster treated as "SPYRAL Super Agent," unlocked that potential, becoming notorious for enabling SPYRAL as a strategy that could spam Link monsters easily and quickly by Special Summoning SPYRAL Quik-Fix or SPYRAL Master Plan from your deck to begin a combo, seeing mass adoption in the OCG and TCG metagame for a time. Later on in 2020, it reappeared alongside the newly released Magicians' Souls, a consistency tool allowing the user to send SPYRAL Master Plan from their Deck to the GY, with a further refined Link spam strategy, albeit not as all-encompassing to the metagame as it's 2017 counterpart.

My thoughts on SPYRAL Double Helix and the SPYRAL theme are complicated. Like a lot of other World Premier themes, the art of SPYRAL is phenomenal. It provides a very clean modern-day aesthetic, clashing (but in a good way) to the more magical or fantastical themes in Yu-Gi-Oh, alongside a small story about a teacher turning on his student and their organization. It's gameplay, however, involves a lot of Soft Once Per Turn abuse and generic link monsters, which does put me off of the strategy as a whole. However, I do hope that with the newly revealed SPYRAL Double Agent, SPYRAL Master Plan makes it off the TCG Banlist so SPYRAL players in the TCG can enjoy their deck to the fullest.

Um, yes? But like, gotta project a little bit so he's insecure lmao

You were a new agent, working for the BAU, finally getting the transfer from organised crime you had practically been begging for for the last two years. You had met Agent Hotchner (or Hotch as you had been told to call him) and Agent Rossi (or Rossi), both respectable men who seemed pleased to have you on the team. But today was your first official day working for them.

You weren't allowed to have the majority of your piercings in whilst at work, only the three in your ears and your septum, provided you took that one out should you need to talk to members of the public. Your tattoos started at the base of your neck and stopped just above your wrists, enough that a long sleeved shirt with a collar hid them.

You stepped out of the elevator, taking a small moment to try and gather yourself before you walked into the ballpen.

"Well who is this hunk of handsome?!" Penelope asked, jaw dropping as you walked into the room. Your shoulders curled inwards with embarrassment as you rubbed your neck, cheeks dotting with red.

"Er, I'm (Y/N)," You answered, "I'm looking for Hotch or Rossi?"

"(Y/N)," Rossi grinned as he walked up to you, patting your arm when he reached you. "Glad to see you made it okay,"

"Thank you sir," You nodded.

"What have I told you?" Rossi sighed.

"Sorry, Rossi." You correct yourself, Rossi gave a small nod as Hotch approached the group.

"(Y/N), nice to see you again."

"You too, s-" You cut yourself off, "Hotch."

Hotch turned to Garcia, "Garcia, play nice, he's joining the team."

"Oh really?" Garcia asked, seeing the unimpressed look on Hotch's face she sighed. "I'm Penelope Garcia, Knower of All."

"I'm (Y/N) (L/N), Agent of America?" You offer, unsure.

"I like you," Penelope grinned before she turned to Hotch, "We've got a case."

"Gather the team," Hotch said. Penelope nodded, before rushing off. When she left, he turned back to you, "You get used to her, she means well," He said fondly.

You nodded slightly, unsure of what exactly to say. "Come on, kid, you need to meet the rest of the team." Rossi said, patting your arm once more.

Derek's eyes widen as you walk into the room, when Garcia had told him that the new team member was tall and muscular he had been expecting maybe someone six foot, but you stood at about six foot five, built well (to say the least), with a septum piercing, stretchers in your ear lobe, a helix piercing, and an industrial piercing. And, based on the darker tones that showed through your shirt, you were inked too.

You all made quick introductions before you sat down, immediately turning your attention to Penelope before heading off to the case.

After the case was finished, Rossi had decided to hold a family dinner at his (with instructions to bring swimwear - apparently, he had recently had a pool installed). You agreed to go, despite feeling slightly out of place, making sure to wear the trunks under your jeans as it was easier and made sure that you brought clothes in your rucksack.

An hour after dinner (you didn't want to get cramp in the pool because you weren't sure whether or not that was a myth and you weren't about to embarrass yourself in front of your team just yet), you all went into separate rooms to get dressed. You kept your t-shirt on for a bit, planning on only taking it off when you went into the water.

Walking out into the garden, you plopped yourself on a chair, tuning in to the conversation. "I'm just saying that statistically speaking, the most common birthday in the US is September 9th,"

"Really?" You asked, "That's my birthday,"

"Seriously?" Morgan asked, you nodded.

"Yep," You said, "What can I say? I'm a Basic Bitch,"

When JJ and Emily joined the group, Emily grinned, "Pool time?"

Morgan grinned as he and Emily both cannon-balled in, when he resurfaced, he turned to you all, "You joining us?"

You stood up after the others, pausing for a moment before taking your shirt off and leaping into the pool.

"Oh my God, he has a nipple piercing?! Are you guys seeing this?!" Penelope exclaims, slapping her hand against Emily and JJ's arms.

"I did not see that coming..." Emily muttered, JJ nodding in agreement.

"Do you... do you reckon down there is...?" Penelope asked, giving them both raised eyebrows and a smirk. Emily and JJ both rolled their eyes.

"For God's sake, Penelope, focus," JJ laughed.

"I can't, he's too dreamy."

Is very basic with anything sweet, so she gets vanilla bean each time.

She is one for anything extra, so when either receiving or giving she will try to embarrass you. Oh, you need to go somewhere, and without her? She is giving you loud and non-stop kisses at the door all over your face.

But even Jett needs to wind down, so give her a forehead kiss while stroking her hair back, she will be knocked out quickly.

22 years old

She will only vape at social events or around a few friends. (Mainly any younger agents who also vape or tolerate it.) Even then she can not handle vaping for a few days at a time. No matter the smell, will handle them like they’re not even there.

She loves her sweet treats as well, so she instantly turns to her all time favourite; Bubble gum. And will add just about every topping if she isn’t stopped. (Has become sick too many times from this, and keeps doing it.)

Loves giving nose kisses. She’ll run past a leave a quick peck before leaving, if there is enough time she’ll stay back and have penguin kisses. Is a fan of receiving butterfly kisses, they are simple and cute. (She is also very ticklish.)

5’2 / 160cm

19 years old (Making her the youngest agent)

Is most likely the clumsiest when it comes to making out. 90% of the time teeth will clash, but still staying passionate. If she gets confident her partner might get a small zap, along with the surrounding area. Will act confident but in reality, you’re her first.

Has two piercings, a silver industrial and a matching gold helix. (With Raze.)

He does a mix of all three, (Smokes, vapes and does blunts.) normally with a friend each night.

Loves his caramel flavours, mainly salted but will eat any with caramel.

Receiving: Anywhere and everywhere on his face. Giving: Anywhere on the body, if given the chance he will kiss even the most hidden areas.

Lost a bet once and the consequence was to get a dick piercing.

Wingnix: (Gekko x Phoenix)

One night Gekko tried to give Phoenix head and the piercings got caught on eachother. Unable to free themselves they had to call Yoru, who won’t let them live it down.

Phoenix only found out Gekko was trying to become clean because of Reyna. Who confronted Phoenix about him halting the process, only to realise he didn’t know. Since then Phoenix has tried to help Gekko.

She vapes in most of her free time unless around Killjoy, who she will not vape around. (Smart enough to keep it away from any labs.) 

Will only get and eat the rainbow ice-cream (Unless Killjoy, Neon, Phoenix or Breach offer.) Also adds a variety of popping candy flavours.

Receiving: Loves receiving the same amount of attention, is strong enough to catch her partner if they did the same thing. Is also a fan of softer moments.    Giving: Is a fan of crashing into her partner and covering their face in kisses. Not letting them go until she successfully covers their face.

Has a gold industrial. (With Neon)

She has not and will not do any type. Her and Killjoy are helping Gekko to stay clean.

Is a fan of the more unusual flavours, her most favourite is boysenberry.

Receiving: She isn’t one for pda a lot of the time so small pecks before rushing off fits her, only to gain ‘compensation’’ for the lack of attention later. Giving: In public she’ll give you more formal kisses, like the back of your hand, wrist or even on the cheek. In private it’s anywhere she can reach, lips down to your neck, leaving hickeys.

Will watch as you continue about your day with her lipstick marks all over your face. She saw them immediately but said nothing, letting someone else tell you about them.

5’8 / 174cm

30 years old

I feel like she has more piercings, one or two golden studs in her ears. With a relatively simple belly piercing, in gold.

After a while she got some small tattoos for Gekko and his creatures. Each of his buddies have a simple design, while Gekko himself has his name, Mateo, written in front of a graffiti like background. The only person aware of this is Cypher, who has been threatened into silence.

Wouldn’t call herself a fan of shitty spanish shows but will binge watch them at night.

Is a fan of romance and thriller books, especially if there’s a mix. Reads them in bed at night, even when she’s alone during the day. (Has a pair of reading glasses but rarely wears them, so it takes her twice as long to read.)

Doesn’t smoke but vapes regularly, mainly blue raspberry. And every few days he will roll a blunt with Phoenix. Although he doesn’t mind the smell of any type.

Is pretty basic when it comes to sweet food, especially ice-cream. His favourite being double chocolate, this also includes most chocolate flavours

Receiving: Will never kiss in public, (Has a reputation to upkeep) but enjoys a more intimate moment. Being all tough and scary on the battlefield leaves him melting in your embrace instantly.  Giving: Still a fan of intimate kisses, but also gives rough and romantic moments.

5’4 / 165cm (Though his hair adds an inch, making him 5’5 when it’s styled.)

Especially in his last few teenage years he got a lot more ear piercings, though over the years he let them close over, only keeping the one current piercing. (Having 3-4 more.)

His fashion sense isn’t terrible, but it isn’t amazing either. Since the protocol pays their agents well, Yoru pays the more expensive pieces but they aren’t good looking, as long as it looks cool (only to him) and most of the time blue he’ll buy it. This has caused other agents (Phoenix, Jett and Neon) to try help his fashion sense.

Introducing Our Current Setting Focus: Wyld Space!

Wyld Space is a science fiction setting designed on the bones of the Cypher System, so many of the common features, mechanics, and tropes that you would expect from that combination will be present while you’re playing in this setting. However, Wyld Space is its own fully realized world (or system filled with worlds, as it may be) with all of its own original tweaks that make it what it is.

The important quirks of the Wyld Space setting are presented below, as a helpful primer to get you in the right headspace while you’re getting started. Most of these highlights will be explored in greater detail in their appropriate sections later in this book.

You Go Hard, The Sci-Fi Doesn’t

Wyld Space is not a hard science fiction setting. The capability of technology that is available strays far outside the realm of current possibility and dances on the outskirts of the fantastic. Starships powered by cores that make traveling through star systems and back as easy as taking a trip to the town over, nanotechnology that can mend metals designed to withstand the wildest space anomalies, machines that can create food and water out of thin air. The difference in access between those living in collective space and those braving the unknown of flux space may make the availability of certain advancements difficult to come by, but even the most backwater station floating past the bounds of the helix sphere will have use of some piece of tech that would look like magic to those out of the know.

Who You Are

In this setting, humans don’t exist. And beyond that, only the dustiest xenobiologist believes that those ancient aliens ever really existed in the first place. You instead play as wylds, the dominant sapient genus that has claimed the known galaxy and carried the torch of civilization into space. Wyldkind is varied and beautiful, composed of highly evolved anthropomorphic versions of the myriad mammals, birds, and reptiles that you can currently see around you on Earth.

Additionally, you play as an outlier—someone who has been designated as irregular and nonconformist by the Intergalactic Network of Collectives (the governing body of collective space) and the sinister megacorps that truly call the shots behind the scenes. Being designated as an outlier could mean a lot of things in Wyld Space. It could mean that you take direct action against the systems that you see as corrupt. It could simply mean that you want to live as freely and purely as possible on your own terms. It could also mean that you’re an active criminal running various contraband back and forth through flux space. At the end of the day, being an outlier means that you refuse to cow down to the accepted status quo.

Who They Are

The primary antagonists of Wyld Space are the government and the corporations that secretly control it. The Intergalactic Network of Collectives (INC), although founded with lofty goals and good intentions, was quickly corrupted by the influence and money of the three megacorps that were allowed to bloat out of control. Mercenary groups, bounty hunters, and purchased police are just a fraction of the corpo agents that you’ll have to maneuver as you traverse the setting.

Void Titans

Colossal beasts with their own biological equivalents of ship-to-ship weaponry, void titans (or simply titans) are creatures that stalk flux space and hunt the starships that brave the sector. Trapped behind the fury of the helix sphere, those who stay within the safety of collective space never have to worry about these alien terrors—which is knowledge that the megacorps are more than happy to propagate.

Element 427: Foxfire

Element 427, called foxfire by everyone but corpo scientists, was the miracle discovery that changed the course of wyldkind forever. Not truly understood, but coveted nonetheless, foxfire is a quantum material highly valued for its matter-enhancing and physics-defying characteristics. Any of the truly fantastic properties exhibited by ships, weapons, cyphers, or artifacts can be tied to foxfire, and its presence in flux space is what drives the megacorps to push into the sector.

Kinetics

Whether the result of genetic tampering, the presence of foxfire, or a little of both, there are wylds who can manipulate the world around them using only the powers of their mind. Called kinetics, these incredible people can create fire, generate electricity, or turn their bodies into living weapons with only a thought.

What are the four factor of regeneration, exactly?

Four Factors of Regeneration

1️⃣The Core Being/Foundational DNA

Each Gallifreyan pops into the universe with shiny, new triple helix DNA formed from either a template or biological parents, setting the stage for their core physical and personality traits.

Although the DNA will change and dominant/recessive alleles will remix themselves to change up physical appearance, psychologically each body is just emphasising a different aspect of that original core personality, like the same song with the lyrics in a different order.

Additionally, some core physical and psychological characteristics will just 'stick' throughout many incarnations.

2️⃣Skill Level

Regeneration is an art, and not every Gallifreyan is Van Gogh. While some will create a masterpiece every time they try, others need centuries of practice, and a few might never learn how to pick up a brush. The higher the level of skill, the greater the control, and the smoother the transition.

Especially in the case of the unskilled, bodies can and will rely on ‘what it knows’. For example, if you’re an unskilled Gallifreyan who has been inhabiting bodies that are continuously male, chances are the regenerative process will generally stick to that format because it’s familiar, and significantly lowers the risk of regeneration abnormalities or severity of post-regeneration sickness, like choosing the same character in a video game because you know how to play it.

3️⃣Environmental Vibes

Where you regenerate is as important as how. A calm, supportive environment, like a TARDIS Zero Room, can make a significant difference, offering stability and aid. Regenerating while your companion is having a meltdown and you're crying cos you don't want to be Peter Capaldi, on the other hand? Not really ideal for focus.

As a rule of thumb, regenerating bodies try to adapt as best they can to the environment it’s in. Ergo, if you regenerate in space, your body may just try to adapt to living in a void ... 🫠

This category also includes other influencing factors like drugs and radiation - the presence of certain hormones or biochemical agents in the body at the time of regeneration could influence the process.

4️⃣Random selection

Even taking all of these factors into account, there is still a degree of random selection, as in humans. Some things (are your earlobes attached? Can you roll your tongue? Do you like pears?) can be truly random.
