The night before Andrew’s first pro game, he receives a box from a company he is intimately familiar with. Pretty pink calligraphy branding the pristine white box with Allison’s fashion logo. It’s a rather large box, and Andrew is expecting the worst, like bright pink pompoms, but when he opens it, there are several neatly folded piles of silky material—armbands.

The first pair in each bundle is a simple black, but as he goes through them, he finds the colors changing, colors matching his new uniforms, colors Andrew would never usually wear but was informed he’d have to during specific months of the year.

At the bottom of the box lay three pairs with a note labeling them “custom.” The first pair was all black, except for a small dagger on the insides of both wrists. The second set is similar in color, except when they catch the light, subtle color shines through. A stupid rainbow. The last set Andrew knows Neil must have had something to do with as they are bright orange and white, tiny little fox paws on the insides of both wrist.

There are two of each pair, thirty pairs total. At the bottom of the box is a note branded with Allison’s logo but also a tiny kangaroo, one that is also branded just above the elbow on every sleeve.

“First look at the new sports line. I call this one Rew.”

Andrew hates her, but he plays his first game, ensuring Allison’s logo is always visible.

neil on the run frequents my mind more than i’d like to admit

so for like the entirety of his time on the run he used fuckin 3 4 or 5-in-1 shampoo/conditioner/body wash and like obviously he knew there were other ones he could pick but it’s dumb to lug three separate bottles of shit when there’s one viable option right there. saves space in his bag, less weight, less time in the store. get in, 5-in-1, get out as fast as possible.

so naturally allison finds out about this. she might have inquired. and of course she’s fucking scandalized to learn about the 5-in-1.

can you. imagine. the overwhelm neil probably feels at the store. and allison (who had dragged him there) is explaining that “this one will help moisturize your curls because [she ruffles a hand through his hair and scrunches his damaged ass hair] [cheap ass splat hair dye ass crunchy fried ass hair] …yeah”

and neil is like ???? frantic as fuck in the store like classic clean ??

repair and protect ??? “from what?”

smooth and sleek ?????? “allison these are all the exact same thing—”

and allison is like “omg wait?? what’s your skin care routine?”

and neil is like ??? “my??? my what??????”

allison is like “…..neil.”

neil shrugs and is like, “i just used the 5-in-1. why would a skin care routine [he kinda sneers it bc he had never heard such a thing before and is annoyed at allison’s gaping mouth] be one of my priorities on the run????”

and now allison is pissed because “how is your skin perfect after the horror you’ve put it through???”

ok and then neil is like [in his thoughts] my skin is not perfect. the scars. blegh. the horrors.

and allison sees it all on his face and she grabs his face in one hand (the other one is full of stuff; y’know how women can just carry a bunch of shit in one hand? yea) and makes him look at her, and his cheeks are all squished, lips are pouted, and she says all resolutely, “i meant it. the scars don’t ruin you. it doesn’t matter what happened to your skin. what matters is that you’re alive despite it. that is perfect.”

and when neil can’t make eye contact anymore he kinda just nods and she stares him down for half a second more and huffs. “but seriously, no acne…” continues down the aisle to the face wash and moisturizer. “no acne at all. so fuckin unfair—” and that’s that

Aaron letting himself collapse on the floor after an intense footwork practice session where Kevin breathed down everyone’s necks so they would be perfect for finals.

His lungs are on fire, his legs have the consistency of jelly left in the sun for too long, and he is exhausted from all the assignments and tests he has had to work on and study for. As soon as Wymack whistles the end of practice, he tosses his helmet away, falls to his knees first, then willingly lets gravity pull him down until he’s sprawling on his back. He doesn’t care one bit. He’s just tired. He hears footsteps coming his way.

Matt appears from above him, looming high, and looking just as rough as he is. “You good buddy?” he asks. They’ve gotten closer ever since Aaron switched dorms with Neil. Aaron nods silently.

Matt stretches his hand outfor Aaron to take but he shakes his head. “The floor is great right now,” Aaron wheezes.

Matt snorts. Then he does something Aaron didn’t see coming. He crouches and lets himself lay down next to him. “Huh,” Matt says after a beat. “The floor is great right now indeed.”

Aaron stares at him, wondering what’s going on.

Before he can figure it out, Nicky sprawls on Matt’s other side. “Goddammit, I’m fucking parched,” his cousin says through ragged breaths. “Are we having a floor party? Why wasn’t I invited?”

“You just invited yourself,” Aaron answers. There is no heat in his voice.

“Oh Maaatt,” Dan’s voice comes from somewhere on Aaron’s left. She flops down on top of her boyfriend. “I can’t stand up anymore. Day is gonna be the end of me.”

“He’s gonna be the end of us,” Nicky cries dramatically.

“You should thank him. Erik is gonna love those thick thighs,” Matt smiles.

“Got anything you want to admit to the general public, Boyd?” Nicky fires back, playful grin on his lips.

“Keep your flirting away from here,” Aaron groans.

And then the bane of his existence appears in his field of vision, Andrew silent by his side. “You flirt with Katelyn all day long, that’s rich of you to say.”

“Fuck off, Josten.”

“Can’t face the truth?”

“I wasn’t talking to you.” Aaron cannot add anything else as a full water bottle lands on his chest.

“Drink,” Andrew commands quietly Aaron grumbles. He opens the bottle. But he freezes. Because Andrew sits down next to him and tugs Neil down on the floor with him. The redhead willingly lets him and soon enough, half the team is on the floor surrounding Aaron.

Renee, who until then had been helping Allison clean up the court, calls Kevin to join them. It takes a lot of convincing before he joins them too, but eventually all the Foxes are there in a circle. Aaron ignores the feeling in his chest. He ignores the fact that despite thinking he would always be alone, he now has a family, no matter how dysfunctional. He won’t admit it out loud—not yet at least—but he is grateful for every single one of them.

Even Neil, no matter how hard he denies it.

I want to write an AU fic where Neil and Matt become roommates and it's the Best Thing Ever because they've been BFFs for years and what could possibly go wrong, but then Neil starts dating Andrew and they start having conflicts about wanting to use the apartment for private couple time.

Neil and Andrew like their privacy and Neil has probably walked in on Dan and Matt too many times for comfort—plus the lack of soundproofing leaves little to the imagination—so now they have to plan a schedule and work around each other.

Dan lives with Allison and Renee, and Andrew lives with his family, so their place is the better, more private option. And they both work, so that leaves less free time.

"Matt, I need the apartment on Friday afternoon."

"Oh, sure thing. Wait... I kiiinda already planned something for Dan and I on that day."

whatever you say but Kevin and Allison are actually genuinely besties. They got their own gossip sessions. After they've graduated they still frequently have video calls where they both talk about whatever whenever they want. Allison is always telling Kevin everything she found about everyone while Kevin listens with rapt attention, adding a point here and there wherever it feels appropriate. Kevin too usually has a lot of information since he's the silently observant kinda guy and shares some of the stuff with Allison. It started in Kevin's third year but Kevin eventually grew to trust Allison and shared his thoughts and opinions as well (He'll never admit but he does start considering Allison's advices at some point). It's just when it's Kevin's turn to infodump it's usually always in the form of bitching and moaning and complaining and Allison finds it annoyingly endearing. They started with a lot of differences, found one similarity, and eventually figured they were not very different beings from the start. They just had different approach to life 🤷🏼‍♂️🤷🏼‍♀️

But while Kevin is still in Palmetto Andrew is thoroughly annoyed how Allison has both of his roommates in her clutches (hates her on principle)

NAME: Charity Lovett.

LOVE INTEREST: Andrew Clark.

SUMMARY: Charity was very adamant that she did not deserve the detention she’d been stuck with. After all, she’d never been in trouble at school in her life - the daughter of the local pastor, she was a good girl, never turning in her homework late, never so much as snapping back when rude jocks and cheerleaders made fun of her “nun clothes” or knocked her books off her desk on purpose. And besides, her sociology teacher had been completely out of line, suggesting that sex workers deserved to be targeted by murderers simply because of their profession, and she didn’t think she was out of line at all when she’d finally been unable to take it anymore and snapped at him. But unfortunately, the school disagreed with her point of view - and so did her parents, who had made it very clear that as soon as she got out of this Saturday detention, she would not be going anywhere but school and church for the rest of the school year. But as the day progresses and bonds form between the church girl and her fellow detention-goers (and between her and a certain wrestling hero in particular), Charity comes to find that, whether she deserved to get detention or not, she might actually be pretty happy that she got it.

OTHER INFO:

So, in keeping with kind of the theme of the movie, the stereotype Charity fulfills is “the good girl” or “the church girl” - she can always be seen praying over her lunch in the cafeteria, she’s always wearing really baggy and covering clothes, and she’s always really quiet and never gets in trouble (kinda think Carrie White, but with no telekinesis or abusive home).

Her parents aren’t abusive, at least not physically, but they’re incredibly religious and strict and refuse to let her date or go to other social gatherings that aren’t church-related. Charity is religious as well, but she also has much more progressive view on a lot of things than her parents, which is why she snaps at her teacher when he’s victim-blaming sex workers.

Surprisingly, she actually bonds with Allison really quickly in detention (despite knowing her parents would call the other girl a Satan worshipper just for the way she dresses), and they definitely remain really good friends after detention is over.

Andrew has kind of always thought Charity was pretty, but was too afraid to say anything because he knows what all of his friends think of her and he didn’t want to get made fun of. As the day of detention goes on and everyone grows closer, though, the two of them talk a lot and really start to form a bond, and as everyone’s leaving the school Andrew actually asks if she’d want to go to a party with him the following weekend, and Charity promises to do her best to sneak out and make it.

She becomes besties with everyone in their little group (because screw it, I like to imagine a happy ending where everyone stayed friends), but surprisingly she gets to be really good friends with Bender, with her being one of the few people who can get him to genuinely smile and him always being willing to beat up any of the assholes who make fun of her (even though she very much disapproves of him doing so, because “violence is never the answer, Johnny”).

Recentish adventures in gay vampire movies:

THE VAMPIRE NEXT DOOR (2024): More properly a bisexual vampire movie (eventually, if you're patient), this is a dumb low-budget comedy about a 20-something dweeb, Cameron (Alex Matthews), who's persuaded to act as chauffeur/getaway driver for his hot new next-door neighbor Victoria (Jessica Ferguson) while she does some vampire murders around town. Meanwhile, Cameron is secretly in love with his hot blond bestie Diane (Bella Chadwick), for whom hot himbo Martin (Andrew Larkin) wants Cameron to do the Cyrano de Bergerac thing. An underwhelming throwback to the dopey (PG-rated) teen sex comedies of the '80s (with ONCE BITTEN an obvious comparison), the movie spends so much energy on the romcom stuff that it takes forever for the vampire stuff to come into focus, and, as in many bad '80s comedies, an awful lot of the plot hinges on Cameron being an "innocent" Peeping Tom. Sort of amiable despite having no real redeeming virtues, but it's weighed down by Alex Matthews, whose character is unsympathetic and whose head-lolling performance suggests that he's recently been hit with a tranquilizer dart.

BIT (2020): MEAN GIRLS meets THE LOST BOYS, featuring a teenage trans girl from Oregon, Laurel (Nicole Maines), who comes to L.A. to spend the summer with her brother (James Paxton) and falls in with a clique of gay vampire girls led by the sardonic Duke (Diana Hopper). Funny and stylish, it suffers from trying to cram at least five hours' worth of plot into 90-ish minutes of screen time. Many of the component pieces are interesting and fun, but as a whole, the movie feels jumbled and unresolved: Various subplots and secondary characters go nowhere; the other vampires (Zolee Griggs, Char Diaz, and Friday Chamberlain) get hardly any character development — Griggs' character Izzy is there mostly as Laurel's love interest, and Diaz and Chamberlain barely have any lines; and Laurel remains curiously underdeveloped, reducing her to a fairly generic teen movie protagonist. Maines is an appealing screen presence, but she can't compete with Diana Hopper, whose commandingly bitchy performance as Duke is the centerpiece of the movie. There's a lot to like about BIT, but it might have worked better as a TV series, giving the characters and story more room to breathe.

THERESA & ALLISON (2019): Extremely low-budget cinema verité horror comedy-drama about gay college girl Theresa (Arielle Hope), transformed into a vampire after a disastrous one-night stand, as she struggles to navigate her new vampiric existence while nursing a crush on a somewhat older vampire, Allison (Sarah Schoofs) — who is totally, definitely (not) broken up with her obnoxious boyfriend Tony (Charles D. Lincoln, who also wrote the script), who now won't leave Theresa alone. The production values are modest and the acting is uneven, but this is a much more cohesive movie than the other two, with far and away the most intelligent script and many inventive ideas (like the fact that New York City has social services for vampires, although like most urban social services, they're underfunded and totally inadequate). Its biggest strength is the way the story builds its vampire-related elements around familiar real-world gay girl travails, which is sometimes very funny as well as horrifying. The caveat is that this is still definitely a horror movie, and goes some quite dark places (requiring CWs for suicide and sexual violence, beyond the usual for vampire stories), with an ambiguous but rather harrowing ending.

The King's Men - Nora Sakavic (All for the Game #3)

Real? 1.5/5. To me? 3/5 - Andreil my beloveds, Kevin's new tattoo, the plot if anything gets worse

I feel obligated to say that I can enjoy these books the way anyone can enjoy fanfiction that's maybe not the best written but that keeps putting your favorite characters in situations. I'm going to read it unless it's absolutely horrific.

Andrew and Neil my besties. My beloveds. I want the world for them and they got it! Some of their priorities could use rearranging though. I'm happy y'all are happy and want to jump each other's bones but maybe rest first? Some sleep? Some antibiotics for Neil's many injuries?

Kevin and his new tattoo was really so nice to see, I wanted nothing but the best for him. And for him to show up at their final game playing with his left hand again? Superb, showstopping, one-of-a-kind, etc.

Allison was my surprise favorite after this installment. She didn't really have any character development in the last two books, so getting to know her here was pleasant.

The whole plot outside of Exy really leaves something to be desired but again, I am choosing to suspend my disbelief far beyond the usual boundaries of non-Fan/SF fiction. Except for their drinking habits. "Kevin downed half a bottle of vodka in under a minute", no, he didn't. Not without throwing up. And he would not be able to play afterwards. I understand Sakavic was trying to give them addiction problems (and she did succeed) but the human body does still have limits.

The ending was surprisingly satisfying. I didn't expect it to end in such a rational (in-context) way, but it was honestly a nice reprieve from the everything else about this story.

All I really want to do now is stare at Andrew and Neil under a microscope. I also didn't realize until this book at Neil was only 5'3"? Neil Josten, my short king.
