Self Altar

That's right, I have an altar to myself.

Arrogant? Um, have you fucking met me?

I kid. I don't think this is arrogant at all. All people have a spark of the Divine within them. Were we not created by Gods? What is so wrong with honoring that?

Self altars are a meditative device. A self care device. A self love device.

Mine is on the bookshelf that holds my altars to Hestia and Athena above it, and my magical books below it. It is to the side of my work desk, so I'm next to it all day long. It isn't just my icon. My altar contains

Religious iconography

An incense burner

Rose water for my face

A trivet to hold my teapot

A blessing from my friend

And my Tiara of the Year

It reminds me that I am not just a worker bee, a mindless drone for capitalistic greed. I am a person, worthy of care and love, even from myself. And let me tell you, I have struggled so hard with loving myself. So I love myself and I take care of myself in practical ways using my altar as a tool.

a piece about t4t, my love of transgender bodies and the holiness of transsexuality

its the biggest painting ive ever painted, around 1 m 40 cm wide (with the side pieces) and around 1 m 20 cm tall. i had to relearn carpentry to work the wood panels into the right shape & screw them together. i had a super tight schedule and nearing the deadline worked on this almost 24/7 but i had soooooo much fun!!!!!

The Wilton Diptych (1395–1399)

The kneeling King Richard II is presented by Saints John the Baptist, Edward the Confessor and Edmund the Martyr, each holding their attribute. In the right-hand panel the Virgin Mary with the Christ Child in her arms is surrounded by eleven angels, against a golden background and field of delicately coloured flowers.

The central theme of this gilded oak altarpiece (1430) in the Church of the Holy Cross in Rauma, Finland, is the heavenly blessing of the Virgin Mary. Below the three Magi present gifts to the baby Jesus.

Just a reminder that you don't need a lot of resources to practice your own DIY spirituality. My altar, for example, is made up of only one or two purposely bought objects. All the others are objects which are incredibly meaningful to me on a personal level : gifts from friends, found objects, offerings from nature or artefacts from my personal history.
