Angsty post canon concept:

When Allura dies what if the Altean magic she used on Shiro and Lance weakens and that's how ppl find out Lance also died?

Both Lance and Shiro start with symptoms they can ignore and ones doctors brush aside. They get told it's fatigue, they get told it's after effects from fighting In the war like they had for all that time. Neither realize it all starts after Alluras death.

Then they end up with things unexplainable. Things like extreme full body tremors, sudden extreme chills and are icy cold to the touch no matter the temperature. Their bodies ache in the ways they had in their deaths but neither man admits it out loud too afraid of what that might mean so neither is aware they aren't alone is this bizarre and sudden turn of events.

It's not until Lance collapses and is rushed to the Garrison hospital that they discovered it something more.

His body deteriorating from the inside out seen visibly from their newest high tech scans. Rotting, closing down, slowing or lacking proper function like his body has given up. Like his body is referring backwards to lack of life but no one knows why.

It's almost like its frying itself from the inside out, it's path crawling closer and closer to his heart with every passing day like bolts of electricity pulsing more and more upward.

Shiro is the first to realize what it means once Lance is finally giving the symptoms they'd had to pry out of him. He realizes with dread that his fellow paladin has things that match up too close to his own.

He only realizes bc he's felt similar things, only his resemble his own death and he knows for a fact its thinfs in Excruciating pain, a pain he thought no one but himself would ever understand.

To get lance to admit what happened Shiro goes through the scans himself to prove his point. No one enjoys hearing Lances story, Allura hadn't even known she was capable of what she'd done to him So he's worse off than Shiro is and terrified of the idea of dying again this slowly

both get taken to an off planet hospital, one that could preserve their symptoms until the rest of their team and families could find a way to heal them

But without Alluras alchemy No one knew what to do.

First they try talking to the alteans on new altea but none have any knowledge of the alchemy allura had used for them

Then the team spreads out

Pidge uses her ranking in her field to gain any and all database information she can get her hands on

Hunk uses his connections To the Balmera and other species to attempt to find any information on healing abilities that might help

Keith is the most successful, the man he loves and his brother are dying and he wouldn't accept that one bit

He sends all the Blades willing to look for any possible Leads and anyone who might know anything about healing magic or alchemy

Keith is the one who comes across one of haggars old druids, one well versed in altean alchemy and one bitter at what had become of the craft

She had understood, to a degree, what Allura had done to Save both men

She had tied their life force to her own to ground them back to this plane of existence and now that she's no longer tied to one universe her connection has faded and so has theirs

"You must tie them to another life to keep them but this practice is taboo. If this next life dies they will with it."

Keith doesn't hesitate for a moment "just tell me what to do and I'll do it."

He ends up tying Lances life force to his own, Lance so sickly he didn't get a choice and Keith apologizes the entire way

He combs fingers through lances thinned hair hoping it brought any comfort to the man that had no energy to even stay awake anymore "you can be as angry as you want after this, as long as you survive I don't care anymore..."

Shiros husband does the same for Shiro

They know it's worked when their bodies stop dying and start to finally try to heal.

The damage so extensive they both spend months in newly crafted healing pods that do everything to try to reverse it.

Both come out whole, alive and maybe a little worse for wear than before All this took place.

But no one cares so long as they stay alive.

And, if when Keith tells lance what he'd done to save him, Keith earns a strict slap to the face for his recklessness that's followed by a gentle kiss.

Well, no one says a word.

the paladins minus shiro play on the altea lions varsity team

keith is a centerback: everyone thinks hes a striker when they first meet him because Look At Him. but hes so centerback. the last line of defense, willing to injure himself beyond repair for his team, steady. strong. a pillar. co-captain. holds the record for most yellow cards.

allura is their center striker: no one would expect a pretty, effervescent girl like allura to be a striker, but on the turf she is quick, effective, and ruthless. lefthand top corner shots are her deadly weapon.

pidge is an outside defender, usually on keith’s right side. shes fast and tough, excellent at shielding and forcing opposing teams towards keith. usually comes off with turf burns but shes happy about it.

hunk is their keeper: light on his feet, high jump height. knows when to dive and when to drop to his knees. his nose is slightly crooked from ramming into the side of the goal once or twice. long punts, allowing allura and lance to chase them up the field.

lance is a midfielder, usually out on the wings. he has excellent precision and dribbling skills, but has a tendency to get carded for mouthing off at the ref. him and allura have their give and go down to a science, just one look between the two of them set off a chain reaction that ruins lives. co-captain.

they all play in semi-unison with shiro and coran coaching, but when allura’s season ends unexpectedly due to a broken ankle, their center striker position is open for the taking. and guess what. keith and lance want that spot so bad it might actually kill them.

Coran Headcanons

DISCLAIMER: this post was written in March of 2017, which was after season 2, but before Season 3 aired. I do not remember where all it was going. Everything under the cut is from then, and has not been edited, which also means it does not mention, reference, or try to stay in line with anything from Season 3 and onward. It was part of a larger set of headcanon posts, and you can see where the other six were supposed to be linked at bottom, but I cannot be assed to go hunting down my own stupid Votlron posts from over seven years ago, so... whatever.

Once bought something with a relatively high level of capsaicin and gave it to Hunk along with a bunch of other ingredients. Warned Hunk that it was extremely poisonous and only to be used in minuscule doses, explained which chemical it was that made it poisonous to most species, and how high the quantity in the vegetable was (less than a quarter of a milliliter, but still dangerous) and then screamed when Hunk dared Lance to eat one whole.

Coran, please stop screaming about how he’s going to die. He’s fine. He ate a Carolina Reaper that one time hE’S FINE.

Coran then watched in horror as EVERYONE tried the capsaicin-rich food, except Allura. Nobody handled it as well as Lance (who kept munching on them like candy), but Shiro came close. Pidge started crying. So did Keith

Has started carefully double-checking everything Hunk cooks just to make sure it’s not going to kill anyone, because Coran’s food may taste awful, but at least it’s safe. Hunk’s tastes great but Coran is entirely convinced it’s going to kill him by accident because Hunk doesn’t know what Alteans consider poisonous.

“You imbibe ethanol for fun?”

Shiro takes a long sip of his Irish coffee in shame.

“It’s a common thing back home.”

Does not realize that the humans would consider Altea a Death World. Altea is Space Australia and Coran doesn’t have a fucking clue.

If he ever got mind-controlled into attacking the paladins somehow, he’d be the fucking Terminator, and it would be terrifying.

Do you have headcanons about Reiner and the retainers?

Absolutely!

August is trans and when he came out, Asta and Bayard joked that he wanted to add variety to his many sisters

Iseul and Altea love attending big balls and parties, and come up with outfits for the others (August especially can and will wear his one formal outfit for everything)

Iseul keeps telling people in the human domain things about elves that are blatantly false for fun

In terms of cooking ability: August > Saerys > Iseul > Reiner > Altea. August is their master chef and knows a lot of inn classics. Saerys knows how to cook, but only for himself. Iseul surprisingly isn't a disaster, though it's usually less cooking and more collecting ingredients together. Reiner could follow instructions, but has rarely put anything into practice. Altea... could follow instructions, but experimentation is more fun. It doesn't work.

None of them have much romantic or sexual tension. The closest is that Iseul and Reiner might have kissed or hooked up when Reiner was the party-boy second son, but it never panned out. Iseul and August found each other attractive once and questioned their taste for the rest of their lives.

It's not uncommon to see one of them with bright, bizarre hair, speaking in high pitched voices, or any other magic side effect of Altea's experiments. The longest lasting involved Saerys leaving pink glitter wherever he touched.

Saerys first visited the fairy and mermaid domain after Lady Wolfson encouraged him to accompany Solaire back home. It was one of his first travels since being taken in by the castle and he kept a pearl as a memento

Reiner uses his healing magic to cheat at drinking games. Altea, Saerys, and Iseul use their abilities to cheat at every other type of game. August still gets tricked into making bets and he always loses

Altea's nicknaming partially started when she came to the domains and struggled to remember all the new names in the unfamiliar language. She has a visual way of remembering things

Reiner is secretly envious of August and Iseul for having such large (living) families

One of the reasons Reiner picked up the crossbow is because Aldric was known as the better archer so he never felt competent enough with it

I think @heynhay's original idea of Keith & Lance working together at the same firm is best. For both plot reasons but also for my own morale LOL

So everyone works at a fairly large private firm that splits its practice and has some of its associates doing profit-driven law (i.e. corporate or finance) which subsidizes the public interest/service work that the other associates do.

The firm is like "Altea & Daibazaal LLP" or something. Yes I am implying that the firm was started by Alfor and Zarkon. Yes I am implying that Allura and Lotor are nepo babies.

I know I originally said that Keith and Lance were law school rivals but I've changed my mind... (RIP to the law school rivalry dynamics

Instead I'm making it so that Keith and Lance are the same age but Lance has been practicing longer because he went straight into law school after college. Whereas Keith started working after college and got like a Master's degree in Social Work or something before deciding on law school at 26. (I just think Keith is the kind of person who goes to law school later in life.)

Okay onto the specific Klance dynamics... Keith and Lance are both pushing 30 and are also literally lawyers so they are professional and serious about their work... But there is wiggle room for them to still be rivals :p

Lance and Keith are both junior associates at the firm. Lance has seniority because he's been at the firm longer but he's still a year or so away from formally becoming a senior associate.

Lance really, REALLY wants to make partner and he sees Keith as his biggest threat/rival because Keith is Shiro's little brother, and Shiro recently made partner at the firm, so Lance thinks Keith might be a nepo hire. Also some of the senior associates recently left the firm so now Lance is stuck showing Keith the ropes and he's lowkey super bitter about it.

Basically TLDR Lance starts off Not Liking Keith at all for various real or imagined reasons and begins a work rivalry with him. Keith doesn't actually GAF about making partner because he's only planning on working at the firm for a few years to help pay off his student loans, but Lance doesn't know that. However, Keith is a naturally very competitive person, and he also likes having Lance's attention, so Keith immediately goes all in on the rivalry.

Lance, internally: "This Fucking Guy."

Keith, internally: "I am so good at flirting."

The first few months are rough between them. However both are also incredibly productive in their work.

The romcom part of the AU kicks in once the two of them have to start working together on a huge high stakes civil case and they're both like wow.... *twirls hair* he's so competent.............. <3

Anyway misc. things:

TBH I have no idea what kind of law Keith and Lance might private practice... I'm also really torn on what Shiro, Allura, and Hunk would practice hdjsksdhedf

Pidge is hired on a fellowship for either environmental law or data security/privacy law.

Coran does employment law.

Keith went into law school planning on going into public interest/not-for-profit legal aid and swore he would never, ever do corporate law but then he saw his student loans and was like. Hm. Okay maybe some Biglaw is okay. And that's how he ended up at the firm.

i’m still thinking abt allura. i feel like all of the characters got downgraded in some way, but she really got demoted during the course of the show. she went from commanding a castle-ship to being a paladin to dying at the end of it all.

even with the dying aside bc it was pretty obvious why that sucked, i wanna talk abt her being the blue paladin. before she was commanding the team and making use of her skills in a way that made sense for her character. she had been shown to have high expectations of the paladins which went with her leadership role and she could use her magic to power the ship. her place on the team made sense

and then she became the blue paladin because why? what character traits of hers fit that lion? did the person she was established to be belong there? did the team dynamics benefit/grow from this change?

and did she ever really get to bond with blue? did blue ever really mean anything to her the way the castle-ship did seeing as it was her home before altea was destroyed? did it further her character? was it what she wanted? was she happy with it? satisfied? could she have been, given that everything that was established about her before didn’t rlly have anything to do with blue anyways? i just think she got ripped off

this was originally a twitter thread but it is truly how i feel about the entire series as a whole. all this to say these are my own thoughts and opinions.

typically a show takes at least a year or so in production; making sure story lines make sense, characters are able to be developed instead of being flat (which happened to a lot of voltron characters ;-; but the characters are amazing) and to smooth out any wrinkle or hiccups. 

In doing 8 seasons in two years the writers were not given the ample amount of time to smooth out the wrinkles and to give us a fully fleshed out piece of work. Take for example Bojack Horseman. The show ran from 2014 to 2020 and it only had six seasons. in these six seasons tho the writers were able to tell an amply dark story but also giving us in depth backgrounds of the characters and we watched the characters grow and change (for better or for worse). the writers were given time to be able to tell that story and is why Bojack is highly praised. 

the voltron writers were not given the same treatment, instead they were rushed to give us 8 seasons in such a short time (this isnt taking account the poor animation team which was probably being worked to the bone bc its no joke animating tbh). 

Instead of characters that we see grow and change over the seasons, there was only like one person to have a charcter arc (pidge) and the character was hated on because of it. 

Like Lance got barely ANY character arc, he stayed the same throughout the entire show and we really never saw him grow and realize his own potential and no longer be insecure and feel like the seventh wheel of voltron. 

this can also explain why adam was introduced and killed off so quickly, there was just not enough time to even give shiro a proper backstory episode to show him making the decision to go to kerberos. 

Each of the seasons were also short and have little episodes because of the rush. I mean we saw lotor get a redemption arc and then it suddenly is thrown away so that haggar can be redeemed which made zero sense for her character.

if the writers and animators and the rest of the team were given rest time in between the seasons we would of seen an entirely different show (now that can also be false but im sticking to it could of been better) we could of seen each character grow and change and even get backstories for everyone.

i would of loved to see more garrison days of everyone and to see allura's life before Altea was destroyed (plus we could of gotten more fun filler episodes like monsters and mana where we see the characters personalities better).

people hated season eight and rightfully so, i cannot blame them. For lance to go back to farming with his family in cuba which has extremely racist undertones and for allura (the only black character) to be killed off does not also look good either.

allura didnt even have to die and for her to sacrifice herself just doesnt feel right. i understand fully that the show was EXTREMELY popular and the demand to get more episodes was at an all time high, but it was absolutely foolish and borderline amateur hour to rush production.

which is crazy because some of these show runners worked on amazing shows like avatar and korra. i know a lot of people who loved voltron feel betrayed by the eighth season and stopped participating in the fandom overall because of the betrayal they felt.

i feel like now a lot of times we as a fandom forget about this bc its been a few years since the finale and a lot of us rather use our own headcanons and fanon rather than the actual canon because it gave us nothing at all except for amazing characters.

okay to end this rant, the show feels half baked due to the way the production was rushed to get out these eight seasons in two years. if the writers were given the time (which honestly the show would probs still be going on now as we speak in the year of our gods 2022), the show could have lived up to its actual potential instead of being a dumpster fire (i use that lovingly but also not) we would of seen growth and change in characters and a lot of things we hated would of never of happened potentially. 

so yeah, thats my rant on the destruction of voltron. thanks for coming to my ted talk

welcome to the twenty-first fic rec friday! where, on friday, i rec five of my favourite fics.

1. Most Artists are Messy by @shipsgalore

Lance is drawing a complicated flower on the base of Keith’s wrist and it makes his lips pull up into a smile despite the panic. They’re always flowers when it comes to Lance. He uses them in everything he does, and usually doesn’t even know he’s doing it. Keith can count on one hand how many times the doodles on his arms haven’t been of flowers.

i love this one because keith & lance are just blatantly and clearly autistic. it’s wonderful. it’s sweet and fluffy and it’s a modern au, which as y’all know is my jam, and the last few paragraphs do this specific thing with sentiment repetition that genuinely gets to me every time

2. Be Alive With Me Tonight by @caesaria [EXPLICIT] [ABO]

When the Blade of Marmora requests assistance on an information gathering mission, Lance and Keith go undercover as a bonded alpha and omega pair. At first, it seems like this is going to be more like a vacation than a mission – right up until everything falls apart and they realize how unprepared they really are. Now, Lance and Keith have to fight to not only survive, but to make it out together. They’ll have to rely not only on their skills as Paladin, but the bond they’ve created and nurtured between them.

okay i gave this one the explicit warning bc there are chapters that are explicit, but tbh the scenes are skippable if that’s not ur thing. now this fic is an EPIC. truly. its a quarter million words and the plot is breathtaking, the worldbuilding is iconic and the romance is like HOLY SHIT. this is a novel, and better yet its a KLANCE novel, so. highly recommend if you have a day or two to read.

what have i told yall about fics from 2016!!! this fic made me SMILE and im not usually a fan of like senior year of high school fics but holy shit!! holy SHIT!! this fic had me smiling and kicking my feet and losing my mind. i will leave u with the note i put on my bookmark (spoiler warning):

A crackling silence answers him, and Keith’s stomach sinks. Did Lance hang up? Keith can’t exactly blame him.

@catnippackets did a comic of this i believe, and it literally never leaves my head. yall know the trope where one person gets a phone call and halfway through they sigh wistfully and say “god i wish you were here” and then the other person smiles so viscerally it can be felt through the phone and they say “look behind you” and theyre THERE?????? that makes me lose it every time. i love this fic

just one dance

a drabble for @vldkoganes who asked for pining Keith in some sort of prince AU.

“May I have this dance?” Lance asks Keith, hands placed behind his back as he smiles at him. His eyes twinkle in delight when Keith snaps his full attention to him.

Keith looks at Altea’s newly appointed ambassador to Marmora in masked surprise. There’s a reason why Altea is his favorite kingdom to negotiate with, and he would not put it past Queen Allura to have specifically appointed Lance to deal with him, except there’s no way she can know Keith’s type—a cocky flirt, a firestarter. And even more unfortunate for Keith, Lance is exactly the type of person who can go head to head with him and has a decent chance of winning. 

With most ambassadors from other kingdoms, Keith can get them to cower under his scowl alone and usually walks away with a decent deal that favors Marmora. Lance is a whole other challenge. He always has Altea’s best interests at heart and refuses to budge on a deal that teeters any other way. Allura is very lucky to have him. He can throw barbs as well as he can take them. Nothing seems to phase him, and the more Keith’s ire increases, so does Lance’s infuriating grin. 

The entire essence of Lance is infuriating. 

Keith hates how much he can’t let it go. 

“Why?”

“What do you mean, why?” Lance’s brows knit in confusion. He waves a hand behind him. “This is a ball where people dance.”

Keith absolutely hates balls. It doesn’t matter if he has to throw it himself as Crown Prince of Marmora or whether he’s invited to someone else's. Tonight is one he hosts, and for the last ten minutes he’s been trying to figure out how to escape from his own party with Shiro, his guard, giving him a disapproving look every time he tries to make a break for it.

“I meant why me?” Keith clarifies with a frown, arms crossed and guarded.

“Because you’ve been standing here like a statue all night, and I think it’s honestly scaring your guests.”

Keith has never had anyone other than Shiro speak to him in such a flippant manner. Even from the first day, Lance refused to address him formally after their initial meeting, unless he’s teasing him. It’s thrilling. A relief. Keith tilts his head. “You’re not scared.”

“I could never be scared of you.” Lance flashes him another cocky smile. “So do you want to enjoy my company or not?”

Keith rolls his eyes but takes Lance’s arm when it’s offered. People part for them as they walk onto the dance floor before filling in the spaces around them. He hears the whispers and catches the stares. Lance remains unphased and Keith does as well. It’s well known that Keith usually never partakes in these formal events, and now here he is in the middle of the ballroom with the ambassador he can’t seem to ever say no to.

“You look really handsome tonight,” Lance whispers as they fold into the dance. His arm is around Keith’s waist, warm and a comforting weight. Keith keeps his gaze locked on their clasped hands, trying to stay in time with the music, because the minute he looks at Lance’s face—with his dazzling smile and windswept hair—he’ll trip.

“Oh, thank you.” Keith’s cheeks redden at the compliment, not used to one so genuine. “S-so do you.”

“Hm,” Lance hums in agreement. He chuckles a little when Keith does step out of tune but swiftly corrects him so no one around notices. 

Automatically, they draw closer to each other throughout the dance, heads bowed in their own private conversation even though they haven’t said anything else. Keith breathes him in—a mulled scent of the ocean that still clings to him from Altea under a more present flowery soap—and that is enough. When the song ends, Lance steps back from him, and suddenly, Keith feels cold.

“I’ll see you tomorrow, Your Highness.” Lance smirks, bowing, and reaches out to kiss the back of Keith’s hand. He stares straight at Keith, a hint of blush on his brown skin. “Thank you for the dance.” 

And just like that, Keith struggles to function for the rest of the evening.

It was an au where Lance played basketball and went to college and Keith was some rich people’s adopted son who wanted to be a mechanic. The college with the basketball team was called Altea College I think. Shiro and Allura were together. It was definitely a long fic, probably around 100,000 words. It was explicit. At some point Lance is consoling Keith and he says “Sometimes the way we feel just doesn’t line up. But it doesn’t mean you’re not enough.” I remember because I wrote it down lol

So hey the Hero-King Marth that Ylisseans claim is from Altea which is in modern Northern Plegia (right under the Feroxi border wall). Given this, can you imagine the political strife and potential religious conflicts happening over this? Because Marth is 100% the ancestor of the Ylissean Royal Family, but historical Altea is Plegian ground. How hard would the Hierophant play with this if allowed?

I am delighted to be asked this because I think about this little detail all the time. Because Chrom and the Shepherds do go to the location corresponding to historical Altea. It's where Chrom defeats Gangrel and ends the war between Ylisse and Plegia. We know Chrom isn't exactly in high spirits ("We've won... Somehow I don't feel like celebrating.") and though the game itself never brings it up, I can't help but wonder how much the location itself contributes to everything weighing on him.

This location is also listed as "Border Wastes." It's a wasteland, and Marth's Altea definitely was not. Again, the game itself doesn't say a word about it, but... Is it not easy to imagine how it might have got that way? Somehow I doubt the exalted line, proudly descended from the Hero King, WANTED to give Altea to Plegia or was ever satisfied with Plegia ruling it. Awakening thematically grapples with cycles of violence, and though this geographical detail is so minor and is never directly addressed in the text, the environmental storytelling seems to me to speak volumes. I think Plegia and Ylisse have been mad about this for as long as they've both existed.

And the thing is, I can easily imagine Plegians taking pride in holding this land, too? Marth is not just special to the Halidom of Ylisse. He is a hero to the entire continent. He saved EVERYONE. "Marth was Plegian" is not exactly accurate, because Plegia would not exist until a thousand years after him, but I bet there are plenty of Plegians running around whose features resemble Marth's as much as Chrom and Lissa and Emmeryn's do.

(Remember, Ferox suspects Chrom of being an imposter when he first arrives at their border, and Cynthia's paralogue involves a guy successfully impersonating Chrom. I don't think you can tell just by looking at him that he's not Just Some Guy, and specifically, you can't tell that he's not Just Some Plegian Guy, either.)

It's interesting to think about what if anything Grima would do with this... Grima was after Marth's time, but that doesn't mean they can't put words and ideals in his mouth just as well as any other political figure.

Moving more deeply into pure headcanon territory... As you may be aware, I think Grima ate the earth dragons that Marth sealed at the Dragon's Table, and honestly if they did, I can imagine them twisting that act to be like.... Obviously what Marth Would Have Wanted, because you see, he didn't have the power to do anything more at the time, but OF COURSE he wouldn't have wanted the beloved people of his precious continent to have to fight the earth dragons again. The Fire Emblem can't do enough. Let Grima eat the dragons for you. (Meanwhile, you've got the First Exalt, actual descendant of Marth, arguing that um, HE is right there, totally ready willing and able to seal those dragons right back up, guys come on we KNOW this will work. Yes I do like to think of this as a reverse "let Chrom deal the final blow?" situation. One in which Grima refused to back down.)

So in that regard, I don't know, I feel like "Grima is the Hero King's true successor (in spirit)" is something that at least some people could actually believe. That would be fun to work with. It's a little hard to see how to get from there to "and now Grima destroys the world because humans are bad" but... given how Plegians value loyalty, it might honestly be enough for some people simply to say "we side with Grima no matter what because we always have before and we aren't filthy traitors."

First odd, I LOVE the sibling vibes between Keith and Allura. They need more solidarity. Second, I saw the "big sister" Allura, now all I can imagine is Keith and Allura taking one look at Lotor and approaching him like a little brother. That whole situation with Lotor could go in any direction though.

Both Keith and Allura would have known Zarkon and Honerva pre-corruption. That goes without saying, really. They both would have known that Honerva was pregnant, and it's easy to imagine it catching both of their interest. They were both excited to meet the child- particularly Keith, who was also half-Galra, half-Altean.

They both assumed the child died with Honerva.

Lotor would naturally have an interest in them both, given that they're both old Alteans. Allura's alchemical abilities would still catch his eye the most like in canon, but he can't deny that he's curious about the only other half-Galra, half-Altean he's ever met. But he's also... disappointed in Keith. He clearly leans more towards his Galra half, which Lotor cannot understand. He was raised on Altea. Yet if it were not for his markings and colored pupils, he might assume he was just like any other Galra.

To someone who hold's his mother's people to such an impossibly high standard, it would be baffling to Lotor.

my personal headcanon right now even though it could very well change depending on what i decide is funniest at the moment is that keith never got an autism diagnosis. no one even considered it. his dad was like "yep. just like his mom." (his mom is also autistic) and shiro is like "yeah this kid's gonna be a little weird he's traumatized and has only ever talked to two people. nothing more to see." keith Also figures that that's what's going on.

lance and hunk are diagnosed though. pidge is self dx but there's really no other explanation for what's going on with her. they diagnose keith with peer reviewed autism. allura as well. they ask keith one day "hey keith did you ever get tested for autism. this is not an insult." and keith just stares at them blankly. he goes "what." and they say again "keith did you ever get tested for autism. this is not an insult." and he goes "...no?" and then they make him promise to take the raads-r when he's back on earth but he takes all the questions literally and gets frustrated. "what is this even asking me" he says. "that's the point" they say. "that's stupid" he says. his score is something insane like 260. they didn't even know it went that high. one of us. one of us. one of us.

they are not sure if altea even discovered autism. they probably did right? they're so much more advanced than earth. it probably just has its own altean word. allura tells them how to say autism in altean but of course she understands the english for it. she's been speaking english this whole time. yes she has it. she got diagnosed when she was 15 give or take. one of us. one of us. one of us.
