ANOTHER THING
in the show, we are constantly shown joels humanity. we haven't really seen the joel that everyone is so wary of, we are more in ellies POV in this regard than joels.
in the game, you're always reminded of it, because it's a violent third person shooter and you are joel. you're thrown into ambush scenarios where everyone else dies and you make it out and there are some brutal death animations and you are confronted with joels violence and ruthlessness again and again.
it's difficult to do that in a show. and there's also a level of expectedness about "what is possible for me to do here that i can walk away from" in a game that is on a very different wavelength than a TV show.
ellie has always been joels humanity, in both versions of the story. but in the show, instead of being reminded over and over about the violence of joel, were reminded of the humanity of joel. we see him connect with ellie and mourn tess and bill and frank and feel heartbreak at henry and sam (though I think henry and sam breaks his heart for ellie more than himself)
and hes fought it the whole way! it's no good, it's gonna get him killed! until he reaches a point where he gives ellie the chance to set him free or take him along and seal that fate.
and of course she takes him, she trusts him and no one else and he has fulfilled his promise of protection that she saw when he killed the FEDRA officer.
but now. now joel is in and all in with whatever this means and whatever this brings. and now that he's all in, he will do whatever necessary to protect ellie and get her through this and back to tommys home (their home).
i hope they show us just how far joel will go go to keep her safe and show that the stories we and ellie have been hearing about joel are far less accurate than we've been lead to believe.
i want to see him show us why people have been afraid of his violence, in the face of ellie being threatened.

Warning: somewhat of a slight possible spoiler (in case you haven’t played TLOU2)
I’ve been seeing way too many TikTok’s spreading false information, so I’m here to bring some positivity about it:
SEASON 2 OF THE LAST OF US ON HBO WILL NOT BE ABOUT PART 2 OF THE GAME
The showrunners already confirmed that they’ll show what happened in those three years between part 1 and part 2 - season three might be about the second part of the game, but we don’t know that yet
I’ve seen so many captions and comments like, “People ain’t ready for season 2🏌️♂️" 😭
So, everybody calm down and be happy🥰

SPOILERS for both games and everything TLOU!
Joel was resistant for so long, he didn’t want to assume the role of Ellie`s dad, because he was terrified of the pain it would bring him, terrified of the tragedy repeating itself. He forgot, or made himself forget, how much joy it was to be a dad. But once he opened up to it again, he was all in. And it felt like coming home.
After they went back to Jackson I think he became desperate to give Ellie all the childhood he could. He enrolled her in school, made sure she hung out with kids her age, found toys, comics, books and games all in hopes she might like them. He even made a habit of asking people about their favorite jokes, just so he could surprise her. He listened to her stories about her past and present life. Made sure to read her comics and every book about space, becasue he wanted to know her.
He went out of his way to somehow compensate for all the years she was alone, stuck in Fedra orphanage. There were movie nights, game nights and guitar lessons. Swim lessons too and construction corner with Joel Miller. There was music, so much music. There were Christmases and New Year’s celebrations and simple afternoons on the porch, when he played his guitar and told her stories about the old world, becasue he wanted her to know him too.
But most of all he wanted to celebrate her birthday, he wanted her to feel as special as she was. He wanted to make sure she knew that she mattered, that her life mattered. When he found out about the museum, he went there to make sure it was safe for her and he came up with the most considerate gift ever. Just to imagine how hard it must have been to get that tape! Near impossible! But he succeeded, because it was Ellie and she was a kid and he wanted her to be a kid for as long as possible.
Every time he noticed her shirt was getting a little bit too small for her, it was a painful reminder of their limited time, she was growing up so fast. And he knew he had to give her space, let her explore, learn and become even more herself, but he just wished he could slow her down a little, slow down time, be her dad just a little bit longer.

I ❤️ self-loathing characters, characters who struggle with monstrosity (either fearing or embracing it), characters who are so lonely, who have a gaping hole in their chest, who bottle up & repress their feelings, who claw their way up & have ambitions, who fall down & lose everything, who search for identity & purpose yet can’t see themselves outside of what others want from or expect of them, who are hurt & hurt others, who long & grieve, who lie & pretend. characters who are messy & flawed & human
