Every single year at @epicstuckyficrecs I used to do a fic rec at the end of the year with my favorite fics. I figured I should keep the tradition going! But just as some oaths refuse to be forgotten, so the same can be said about the endurance of love.

This one killed me.

They only get caught kissing the once, but Shadow Weaver makes damn sure Catra will never tell Adora what happened. Years later, Adora is going through old Horde files and finds a confusing incident report, and Catra reacts to it really oddly--

I really like the way the story is structured. It jumps around in time a bit, including quite a bit post-canon, but it's just really well-done. Also starring Glimmer as a supportive friend to Catra, which I really liked.

Give Up the Throne by n7punk Three of the fics in the series are T but there's an unrated fic at the end that would be mature or explicit, 67,162 words total across four fics

Yeah I know this series is technically unfinished/on hiatus but tbh I really enjoyed it anyway. It's a "Princess of the Horde" AU, aka Adora brings the sword back to the Horde instead of going to Bright Moon.

The kissing isn't the emphasis of the plot until that last fic in the series, but even in the first fic, you find out they've kissed multiple times, and Shadow Weaver erased Adora's memory of it every time she found out. The problem is, Shadow Weaver didn't erase Catra herself from Adora's mind, and so Adora kept doing it, and Catra is incapable of turning her down, even knowing the inevitable result.

AND NOW for one of my fave categories of fics ever: "they were totally having angsty, guilt-ridden hookups during the war," aka "enemies with benefits," because let's be honest, my number one thing in fics is "we absolutely should not be doing this....but we're gonna."

My Name on Her Lips by n7punk (lol yes another one) rated M, 17,924 words

This fic is mostly about "What if She-Ra's identity was a secret" (inspired by the 1980's cartoon), but the problem is that Catra knows that She-Ra is Adora--and worse, that Adora is a former Horde officer.

Also, Catra and Adora have been getting it on since before Adora found the sword....and they don't stop just because they're on opposite sides.

And you know how sometimes a line from a fic will gut-punch you and it'll just go around and around in your head for several days? Yeah. "An entire war and its casualties are between them but Adora still falls into Catra’s arms like it is nothing." ;_;

Anyway the plot otherwise is pretty much canon-compliant and covers events up to the end of the show and a little after.

Don't ask me how many times I've reread parts of this one oh my god.

falling feels like flying (till the bone crush) by ehj rated E, 72,316 words

Mmmmostly follows the plot of the show, except, y'know, they're banging the whole time--well, not the whole time. They hook up for the first time partway through the events of Promise, right there in the Crystal Castle.

The fic was abandoned right after it wildly diverged from canon around the end of s3/beginning of s4. Alas!!! (Still worth reading, imho.)

Author does have the fic marked as a series--there's a couple of explicit scenes in the series that didn't work with the main plot/threw off the pacing. They're both short.

Somewhat chronological Catradora one-shots (Post S1) by teaandsmut rated E, 14,439 words across four fics

Let me admit my bias here: the author is a friend and I read at least one of these before I even watched the damn show lol. The fics themselves can each be read as a one-shot if you want.

The first one takes place during Promise (they relive a memory of almost doing something from only weeks before--and once they're out of the memory, they keep going.) The second one has Catra sneaking into Adora's room in Bright Moon. The third one has them chasing each other into the woods when they're supposed to be fighting--this one has voyeurism and Catra's mean. If those are things you're into. (I am.) The fourth one, Adora sneaks into the Fright Zone. This one's probably my fave in the series--they do a little light bondage (and Catra's a brat, at least at first) but it ends on a sweeter note.

@wormsontoast I do indeed have some thoughts about Archivist!Georgie (from the au vaguely outlined here) and since you showed a mild interest in it, I shall now tell you all about it here haha

So there are two things I kinda want to say before I keep going because this au has been changing and shifting in my head a lot and I want to get a bit more of it out into the world.

The first is that each archivist au is based off of as few changes as possible to the canon timeline, aiming (ideally) for only one change that causes ripples throughout the timeline. For example, in the Gertrude-causes-the-apocalypse au, the one change is that Agnes and Gertrude get bound when they are both much younger and the web manipulates things from there, yada yada that's not why we're here BUT you see the vision.

The other thing is that my initial intention was that most people would have a pair, forming some sort of couple or QPR, two people against the world kinda thing - one of them would be the Archivist and one of them would be their apocalypse + 1. This was mostly because (in my head at least) I saw one very eye-aligned character in each couple.

BUT I have recently been doing a re-listen and one thing that stands out to me is that so many of the main characters want to know things, that I think a lot of them could have ended up in the Archivist position in fact. Martin seems to actively encourage reading statements in S3, and Tim definitely has the motivation (when the circus gets involved at least) to be manipulated into the position - more curious though are Daisy and Georgie.

I'll leave a potential archivist!Daisy post for another day (because that's a wild au and a half haha) and talk instead about Georgie, who was meant to be the purpose of this post lol (I'll pop it under a readmore)

So, Georgie - the first thing is how does she become the Archivist? I think the point of divergence for this au would be that Georgie and Jon don't break up during Uni (or just after) and keep their relationship kinda going for a while, and when Jon mentions joining the Magnus Institute, Georgie goes with him.

The real question is why. Georgie in the podcast is fairly avidly against chasing the monsters, so I can see her as taking a job there as a way of keeping Jon safe - I think she sees him as quite naive for his scepticisim and knows that she will not talk him out of it, so she better just be there to stop him from going somewhere he shouldn't.

Jon and Georgie do break-up though, although fairly amicably. They keep living together because it's way cheaper than living alone in London and they are friends. Georgie also starts WTG but it's very much a side project to work (one that she keeps putting off making her full time job, even though she wants to, because the Institute's library is just too good for research).

She's also the one to push him towards the cute librarian with whom Jon has several cringefail attempts to woo before they start tentatively dating.

I reckon that during the course of being in research (with Jon and Tim and Sasha), Georgie gets marked by the web. They'd marked Jon but then Georgie had come, and so they saw an opportunity in her (or wanted a back-up just in case).

Either way, by the time that Gertrude dies, Georgie is the one that Elias chooses as the next Archivist (and I honestly think that Gertrude might have thought that Georgie would be the next Archivist too - Sasha is good but you can't beat actual fearlessness coupled with good sense).

She gets to take with her Jon and Sasha and Tim (Elias is like...let's make sure I have plenty of hostages to work with when the time is right) and that's the Archives team sorted. They're fairly competent, considering the fact that none of them have a library science degree.

Season 1 goes much the same but we meet Martin when he escapes Prentiss. Jon has been going to the library for Georgie, getting out books on archiving and the like and periodically finding references, mostly because he's the one who's closest to the library staff (well, one library staff member in particular).

But Jon mentions that Georgie assigned him the Vittery statement - something about facing his fears - and he hates it, so Martin suggests they go together after work, and he would deal with any remaining spiders for Jon. (Who is Martin, if not down bad for Jon?)

(That is, of course, a rhetorical question lol)

Something something, Martin gets trapped in his apartment for two weeks by the Worm Woman despite not actually being in the Archives. Then he comes straight to the Archives to give a statement, where Jon is working late and waiting for Georgie to finish so they can go home. Jon is the one that suggests Martin stay in the Archives, after he turned down the offer of staying on their sofa.

So Martin lives in document storage and continues working in the library with the rest of his coworkers none-the-wiser, and gets kinda absorbed into the Archives nonsense as Sasha meets Michael etc. etc. And Martin and Jon get really close, from late nights and evenings and weird little dates.

It goes from like...dating to being genuinely quite serious; they have been together for probably like 2 or 3 years by this point but this is a tipping point in their relationship. They keep talking about how they'll move in together after all this is over, so Georgie can finally have her home studio and Martin doesn't have to go back to his flat.

Anyway-

There's also Melanie. She comes in because Georgie was one of the people she contacted in her search for answers and Georgie was like...come and make a statement, maybe we can do something.

Melanie is slightly less derisive of the Magnus Institute (only slightly) mostly because she likes Georgie more lol

Martin is in the library when Prentiss attacks, and is the one that Sasha finds when she runs up from the Archives. Jon and Georgie and Tim are down in the archives, knocking in walls and fighting off worms, and Sasha and Martin go find the CO2 suppression system.

Sasha turns the right corner; Martin doesn't and ends up in Artefact Storage.

Tim finds Gertrude's body. The tide of worms split him off from Georgie and Jon who end up getting wormed in the archives before the fire suppression system gets set off.

They have a few weeks off. Not!Martin and Jon do move in together as had been planned, staying at Georgie's while sorting out a place together. Before everyone returns to the Institute (Martin got the time off too because he was deemed sufficiently traumatised by it all), Jon and Martin move in together, Sasha and Tim have another ill-advised hook-up and Georgie ends up...alone.

Queue the paranoia arc. Georgie might not be able to feel fear but I think that would make a paranoia arc even funnier, because she is convinced that she is seeing things Rationally only for her very much not doing that.

So the thoughts get a bit vague from here. I have some thoughts for each character though!

Martin is obviously taken by the Not!Them in this and so that really fucks Jon up. Jon is Georgie's oldest friend and very much her closest support net, often being the one to feel fear in her place (like she uses him to gauge how she should react to a situation, something that developed because there hasn't really been a time since Georgie returned to Uni where they haven't been in relatively close proximity).

So Jon goes off the deep-end after the revelation of Martin's death and the fact that he wasn't even living with the guy. He takes the responsibility of Martin's mother onto his shoulders, he literally ties up all of Martin's loose ends and then I think he just...stops caring.

It's a mix between Tim's complete S3 despair and Jon's S2 paranoia. He literally cannot trust anyone anymore, no matter how hard he tries, except maybe Georgie because of the whole Archivist thing. And so he goes to the circus with Georgie and Tim and Basira and Daisy.

And he is the one to press the button and die.

I don't usually like taking that away from Tim, because it is a decision so tightly linked to his backstory but I actually put him as ending up in the Coffin in this, shoved in there by a well-meaning Gerogie with her mind being twisted by the Unknowing.

I like the idea of Georgie having a bit of a superiority complex in this AU, where she is sure that she knows better than everyone else because she can't feel fear so she can see things Rationally and Correctly (she wildly underestimates how much other emotions can influence you).

Anyway, back to Tim. He wasn't as depressed during S3 because Georgie's own mini-paranoia arc involved a lot more of digging into statements because she is much more certain that the knowledge of who killed Gertrude is in there, and also Sasha is very much alive and well.

I mean, Jon's rancid vibes are definitely off-putting but like this is at the point where they realise they can't leave and the dread powers exist so the vibes aren't great anyway.

So Tim ends up in the Buried. How does he get out you ask?

Sasha.

I have been waiting for a potential AU in which to put Vast!Sasha and I have decided this is the one. No I don't know how yet but this is my decision - I love the idea of Buried!Tim and Vast!Sasha being something of a couple.

Beyond that for them though, it's mostly vibes.

I think Basira might actually choose to work with Peter Lukas in this one. I wouldn't have Georgie go into a coma post-Unknowing because she's already touched by the End and I don't think she would choose to wake up again, because she simply doesn't have the fear of death that influenced Jon, so she's around for the inter-season shenanigans that occurred.

So Basira doesn't trust her or Elias or Peter, but she decides that as she knows Elias and Georgie, and she's been offered this position by Peter, she'll take it.

(She's trying to ignore the pull of Daisy, hunting out there somewhere, lost after the circus - she never even got the chance to fight against it)

Melanie would be a very interesting one indeed, because part of what attracted her to Georgie in the first place (I think) is that Georgie knows about the entities and can understand her trauma, but is determined to not be a part of it, so they would be so much more messy than in canon.

I honestly couldn't say how her story would thus change. Melanie is a very fascinating character to me and I struggle to sort her out in my head without writing her (and so is Georgie - that's the problem with not writing them as much as some other characters :/) - that said, I do think she doesn't go full eye gouging because she does really love Georgie and doesn't want to leave her in hell alone.

(I also think that Tim and Sasha might decide to do some eye-gouging with friends, as not-quite fully realised avatars of other powers, and try and settle down together somewhere, just in time for the apocalypse)

I'm not sure what all of Georgie's marks would be, or how she'd get them, and if you've got this far I am sure you understand my thoughts are vague and disjointed; but know it will be tragic and upsetting because I refuse to let myself write happy AUs lol

53,522 words, I guess it's not a lot but I'm very proud of myself for ever starting to write and publish my work!

Young Royals, I love that world and its characters so much 💜

4. What are your top 5 fic by kudos?

The humming canon divergent - a world where Wille accepts his path as crown prince but is miserable and puts an end to his life. Simon is left behind to deal with the aftermath. It has a big twist and happy ending.

Running Back To You canon divergent - (after s3) Wille, Simon, Felice and Sara spend all summer together, we find them at the end of it when they have to go to different schools. There's a heartfelt goodbye and reunion when Wille turns 18.

Sadness As A Gift canon divergent - (wrote this after we got the trailer for s3) it's basically the conversation Simon and Wille have at the lake about the monarchy and how it affects Wille.

a Million Different People canon divergent - a world where Wille and Simon never get back together. The ball kiss happens but Simon can't get past the lying about August taking the video and Wille doesn't do a grand gesture to get Simon back.

What can I say I love canon 😭 (I am writing my first AU though,so that's exciting!!)

5. Do you respond to comments?

Yes, I'm not quick at it and it can be overwhelming at times but the comments I get are usually so sweet and moving I just feel very grateful for them. Plus, I love talking to people and going more in debt about anything that is interesting to me or the readers.

6. What is the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending?

Definitely A Million Different People (but The Humming is not very far behind), they don't end up together in the fic but it's also implied that it follows canon after what happens. I initially started to write this way before s3 was out and was in a mood for a angsty/smutty fic.

7. What is the fic you wrote with the happiest ending?

Running Back To You, the whole goal with this one was to capture a bit of the happiness we got to see when Wille chooses himself at the end of s3. It's them spending summer together and just living life after Wille turned 18 and was able to renounce his title.

8. Do you get hate on fics?

Nope

9. Do you write smut?

Yes, I first tried it last year with Running Back To You. I was a bit worried but once I started I realized there was no reason to be scared. It actually find it fun if there's anything writing about characters that connect that way is very cathartic and beautiful to me.

10. Do you write crossovers? What's the craziest one you've written?

Nope

11. Have you ever had a fic stolen?

I want to finish the Felice one shot I started. I had a really great idea but it has become very messy in my head. The way I had initially formed the story doesn't work anymore. It's also very personal so I think that's also me just trying to avoid digging deep 😅 but I'm going to put this one here only because I want to keep myself accountable and get back to it eventually.

I am pretty good at discerning a character's mind and understanding it in a way that translates well in my writing, especially when it comes to feelings.

16. What are you writing weaknesses?

Not being very good at embellishing a text, making it more smooth to read. Vocabulary is not the best so it takes me a while to find better ways to say something, as well as description but I'm getting better at this.

17. Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language in fic?

I'm all for it. To be honest, we're lucky in the young royals world because we get Swedish and Spanish and it's fun to play with them.

It's a tie between The Humming and Running Back To You. Both are very significant for different reasons and they also represent different periods of my life. The Humming was about my big depression episode and how I didn't see a light at the end of the tunnel and writing it was so cathartic and hopeful. While Running Back To You is about finding joy again, summer and wanting to live and see the people I love more.

Summary: The group feels as if they’re going in circles after the fall of the farm, always trying to stay ahead of hordes of the dead.  Seeking refuge in Warm Springs, they’re allowed to take a breather, but will Daryl let his guard down enough to see what’s been in front of him all this time and take a chance at happiness?  Carol certainly hopes so.

TF as an united group, doing everything together; and Carol and Daryl being protective of one another. It's what this heartwarming and quite nostalgic fic offer us, readers. I also love how our author writes dialogue between all the characters. You can almost hear the thick southern accent that everyone used to have at the beginning of the show. Carol and Daryl's feelings are very well described - a simpler love to act upon in simpler TWD times. I hope you enjoy this rec, dear fellow caryler, it's a lovely story. Yeah, I usually try to. I've definitely fallen behind in the last few months, though. I'm sorry. I try to tackle it when I have energy, but it's a rare commodity and I use it to write usually.

These are more open endings than specifically sad/tragic endings, but they could end up there because they're open. It's a toss-up between Chilled to my bone and the recent ficlet where Jounouchi was kidnapped by Hirutani.

Most of them are fairly happy because I tend toward happy endings. But I can't really think of which is the happiest?

9. Do you write smut? If so, what kind?

Somehow in the last two years, I morphed into being a majority smut writer. I'm still in the experimental phase, trying to write different kinds of kinks/tropes, but I feel more practiced at it compared to when I started. Overall, my preference is to try and use smut as a way to advance character/relationship development.

10. Do you write crossovers? What's the craziest one you've written?

Yes. It's maybe not crazy per se, but some of them may feel discordant(?) in their source materials. Like I find it amusing to write crossovers between animes and Western live-action properties.

Dialogue, especially in a way that distinguishes between characters via appropriate voice/cadence is something I generally struggle with. I also tend to be verbose even in dialogue, which means they require a lot of editing.

Unless the point is for the reader to also not understand the dialogue, I prefer to not do that.

Also, if you are new to fic in QAF, I would be absolutely remiss if I didn’t direct you toward Myrna’s four part fic that is canon divergent after the end of S2 and is delicious hurt/comfort and alternating POV. It is partway down this archive page. Look for If You Needed Me (If You Needed Me / I Would Come to You / I’d Swim the Seas / For To Ease Your Pain). I encourage you to save it as PDFs because it is hard to track down.

Overall, I tend to bookmark fics where the premise is interesting (bonus points for hurt/comfort), the characters and their growth are central, and the characters must be in character (any changes to their character must be explained by growth or AU circumstances but honestly I love these characters and I want to read about them), and the writing is good. I don’t enjoy fics that are anti-character. I know those are popular in this fandom and I’m not going to yuck anyone’s yum, but I generally find every character on this show has something redeeming about them and they are all flawed. It’s far more interesting to me to explore that rather than have an outright villain. More than any other fandom, I tend to enjoy canon-based fics rather than complete AUs (I say as I’m partway through writing a complete AU).

This is focused on the general cast, though different fics diverge and focus on different characters, it runs c!Rasbi-centric Sick, Sick, Sick! by ORPHIC__CAE — Warnings: Drowning — One of my other favorites! I won't say too much to avoid spoilers, but it's focused on c!Owen post-reunion Poor Wandering Man by tbhmellohi — Warnings: N/A — An unfinished fic that can read like a oneshot, it's yet another in the list of c!Owen-centric fics, this one is canon divergent and just overall lovely. Pretty Much Dead Already by tbhmellohi — Warnings: Major Character Death — This one comes with a not-quite warning, since it's a c!Ori-centric zombie apocalypse AU. It is what it says on the tin, however! The characterization here is one of my favorites. Would It Have Been A Mercy To Accept His Fate? Series by Fluffyfifi22 — Warnings: Major Character Death — An AU where c!Owen survives the Meltdown and tails the group during their escape attempt, it's one of my absolute favorite series and a big inspiration to me personally Two Sides Of The Same Coin by Cantspell — Warnings: N/A — Want a break from the angst train? This is about as fluffy and a little silly as it gets. A crossover fic that entails c!Owen and r!Owen winding up in the same world and having to get along, it's sweet and silly for the most part (Self-Indulgence Recommendation) Where The Dust Settles by AvoxUtopia — Warnings: Character & Animal Death, Violence, Blood & Injury — The only fic of mine I'll recommend here: a fan season of the STARR series, it follows a menagerie of original characters in the same settings as Outsiders SMP. Currently in the last stretch of the 3rd Arc!

Heartstruck by tempurabbg — Warnings: Violence, Injury — Branzy-centric, it's recently been updated and it's one of my current favorite fics in the fandom Blood Is Sweeter Than The Taste Of Home by EclipsedMoons — Warnings: Cannibalism — Planetlord is a fallen star, he has to eat. Honestly that's just the fic summary but it puts it perfectly. I've talked about this fic briefly on tumblr before? Dear Prince, Held At Arm's Length by MaNicWriting — Warnings: Violence, Body Horror — A royalty AU centered around Branzy/Clown, it's one of the fics I've recommended to multiple people before. Looking Through You, Not At You by Thrills — Warnings: Almost Character Death, Fate Worse Than Death — Vigilante / Superpower AU, this is one I won't say much about because it's one that's 100% worth a blind readthrough aside from reading the tags (Archive Locked) La Petite Mort by whichlights — Warnings: Major Character Death, Violence — Do I have words for this fic? Nope. It's just wormed its way into my brain and will not leave. Digital in Reciprocation by Anonymous — Warnings: Referenced Suicide, Violence — Another one that's wormed its way into my skull. I'd type more about this one (it deserves all the words, frankly) however it's 6am and I should sleep

Aaaaaand that's a wrap for now! I can probably scrounge up some more good recs when I've had a chance to actually work through bookmarkings the fics I like (I keep forgetting to do that and digging through my history is an experience in and of itself.)

Also, to answer this! I did go for some more basic fics, since they're always a safe bet, but basically everything here is actually fics I recommended to one of my friends when it was getting into the fandoms :3

while I have a few minutes, though, I'll also admit that I read over the first 10k~ish of that fic and like... I went back and forth! because if I wrote a Guillermo-can't-be-turned fic with a side dish of Guillermo-reconnecting-with-his-slayer-roots fic now... I mean, I'd do it differently. we have different information after s4, and I started writing this fic after s3.

a lot of the fic I wrote back then was about Guillermo reconnecting with dead slayers, but we now have a living family with characterizations, y'know? so is it better to write this academic research style fic that hinges fairly heavily on OC journal entries, or is it better to write a fic where he goes to his grandmother if he wants to know more about his own slayer blood...?

I think if I were to write the fic from scratch today, I'd have Guillermo learning about his blood from his family -- and I suspect that's the route the actual show is going to take. I would be pretty surprised if Maite doesn't make an appearance this season to help Guillermo understand what's going on his with transition (or lack thereof).

But... I find that I'm actually very attached to the weird little world I've created for this fic. Guillermo learning about generations of slayers that died long before he was born, and both learning from and adding to their experiences. Him making a conscious decision to leave behind his own thoughts for future generations of slayers, whom he hopes will love vampires as much as he does.

I guess it's just the academic in me. I started writing a weird codependent nandermo fic, but it also kind of ended up being a love letter to all my years reading unhinged primary sources when I was in college. (I.... did a lot of work on the history of magic/witchcraft, so I've read Some Stuff.) So I guess in some ways, this fic ended up being one of those "I made my blorbo have my job in this AU" fics except it isn't an AU (other than necessarily canon divergent) and no one was paying me to be a feral child raised by books.

I do think some things in s4 helped prop up my version of events in the fic I outlined and partially wrote before s3 started (Nandor proving he's willing to go to absolutely unhinged lengths to keep Guillermo from leaving him, Guillermo spending his time in London working on his slayer skills, some of the slayer lore, Nandor's bookworm tendencies, etc.) but because like 90% of the fic takes place in the library that was obliterated for Nadja's club... I mean, obviously it's canon divergent, lmao.

So I guess... if I were to write this fic starting from scratch now, I would probably have Guillermo find out that he can't be turned from his grandmother and potentially learn about the magical workaround I designed for this fic, but in a spooky "we don't talk about that" way. And then he'd be so desperate for Another Way that he'd start going through the boxes of books from the vampiric council library to do more research on the phenomenon she's describing.

BUT... I think I'm just going to leave it as-is. He will discover the truth from an old journal of Abraham Van Helsing's that he found in the stacks, and with Nandor's help, he'll find the answer to his woes there as well. I guess I just can't get my nose out of a book. lmao

Hhhhhn I’m glad you put your pinned post back bc i missed a few sneak peeks!! First of all, I love the ominous suit baddies and a new introduction for Erica Sinclair bc she honestly would be a child detective and rabble rouser! Also I love that Erica has heard enough about Lucas’s connection that lets him sneak into the movies that she goes to Steve when she feels unsafe! Tbh I feel like it’s a crime that we never got a scene of Lucas braving about his cool older friend who lets him go to movies for free and drives only for Erica to call Steve a loser but clearly note down that he’s a trusted adult ( let thé Sinclair siblings bond!! Let them be children and shit talk but also care for each other deeply! )Also truly such a joy seeing your impeccable sense of dramatic tension bc that scene sucked me right back in and left me excited about stranger things again . The blend of character work and plot has really gotten so good and it’s fun seeing how your style changed since the first installment!! Also belatedly, the age swap fic (another beloved marypsue AU that is always rotissering in my brain alongside body swap) with Nancy detectiving and a fun twist on the classic Hopper finding the government conspiracy beats of ST1.

Hello hello! Thank you so much! I'm thrilled to hear that the tension is good, and that the plot and character work seem to be working together well. That's all I ever want.

I love Erica and I want her to have all of the screentime! All of the sibling relationships on Stranger Things are so interestingly set up and I just want more of all of them. All the time. Forever.

I feel like the setup in this AU allows for a little more cross-generational interaction in general than the show itself implies. That was one of the things I really liked about s3, the way it put together the Scoops Troop instead of just splitting everybody up into three groups based on age again. It worked really well in s1 because, obviously, they were riffing on three different genres aimed at the three different age categories, and also because none of the characters knew anything, including that the others were involved. The more everybody knows, though, the more you either have to come up with external obstacles to separate them out and not have them share what they know with the others, or you gotta play with and shake up that structure a little. (I'm having some fun with it with former heroes right now, and I hope you'll like how it turns out!)

It's funny that you should mention the change in style, because it's something I've been thinking about recently. Part of it is definitely that the first installment in this AU is canon divergent after all the canon setup and everything, so I was able to lean a lot more heavily on what I could assume the audience already knows. I liked that a lot, and I'd like to try to pull that stylised, storytelling-style voice back into it more. But the changes in the s1 and s2 fics have enough knock-on effects, and I'm also changing enough things in the plot, that I can't lean so much on what people already know about s3. (Although I'm definitely having fun using some of those expectations!) I want to make sure everything's set up well, clear, and makes sense, and I'd like to do a little more of that highly stylised stuff again. Hoping I can strike a balance there.

Also, just so you know, for when and if I change the pinned post again (which will happen when I have a new fic to post), there are a few ways to see only the samples on my blog, other than the pinned post. I am from the Ancient Times, before tumblr decided blogs should automatically open in the dash, and my pinned post is actually just a roundup of the links in the header that you can see if you go to my public-facing blog page! (This page also has the added benefit that you don't have to be logged in to tumblr to see it. Hi all! I’m on the hunt for some new partners (not replacing anyone of course) that are interested in angsty, romantic and, of course, dramatic plots. In said plots I’d prefer to play the F in M/F pairings, it’s just what I’m most comfortable with : ). Aside from that though, I am 24 which means all of my partners NEED to be 18+, there is no wiggle room on this. Please don't lie and say you're of age if you're not, it's dangerous.  Also, another lil request if possible: I just moved to the central time zone and would love some partners over here or who are at least awake during these hours, not a requirement tho!

  We can discuss rules, limits and triggers privately if we decide to move forward, however there is one rule I’ll let you know of now since it puts some people off. I don’t double. I will gladly play multiple side characters, however I will not do one pairing in exchange for another (you playing my love interest and us doing a separate plot where I play yours). I find it hard to focus and they never end up fair in my experience. I hope that makes sense lol.  Also, when it comes to ooc chatter I don’t mind fangirling or general chit chat, but what does bother me is holding conversations for days on end with no replies or no mention of replies.  I find making friends through roleplay a bit awkward so if it happens organically I’m here for it, but I don’t want it to be forced.  I hope that doesn’t make me sound harsh.

  Right now I’m specifically on the hunt for three fandoms/pairings: Criminal Minds, Stranger Things & Teen Wolf.  

  In CM I’d be looking for someone to play Spencer Reid opposite of my character, Olivia Chandler.  Olivia is a Gale Weathers type if you know Scream at all, but FAR less of a bitch.  I think there’s a lot of longevity for this pair as Olivia is afraid of commitment whereas I see Spencer just hesitant when it comes to romance at all, especially if we set this after Maeve.  There’s a lot to her backstory that I think could make for an interesting twist a little further along, but we could do different cases and such and it would be fun!  As all of my characters do, Olivia has her own backstory written up and available upon request. 

  While I haven’t watched S4 of ST yet (atp I’m just waiting for S5 to rewatch all of it lol), I know most of what happens, but this plot would take place more of s2-s3 and maybe in an AU space s4.  I’d be playing an original character, Nancy and Mike’s troubled cousin from New York, and would want to pair her alongside Billy Hargrove.  I think they’re ‘fuck this small town’ attitudes would work well along with other things.  

  As for Teen Wolf, I’d love for someone to play Derek Hale against my canon-divergent version of Paige Krasikeva.  For those who don’t remember, Paige was teenage Derek’s girlfriend who was scratched by an alpha and Derek had to kill himself.  In my version, Derek thinks he killed her but Peter brought her back to life and sent her off with her parents who moved.  Now she’s back in season 3A as an adult music teacher at the high school with no memories of Derek or werewolves.

I will gladly play multiple side characters, however I will not do one pairing in exchange for another (you playing my love interest and us doing a separate plot where I play yours). I find it hard to focus and they never end up fair in my experience. I hope that makes sense lol. Also, when it comes to ooc chatter I don’t mind fangirling or general chit chat, but what does bother me is holding conversations for days on end with no replies or no mention of replies. I find making friends through roleplay a bit awkward so if it happens organically I’m here for it, but I don’t want it to be forced. I hope that doesn’t make me sound harsh.

Right now I’m specifically on the hunt for three fandoms/pairings: Criminal Minds, Stranger Things & Teen Wolf.

In CM I’d be looking for someone to play Spencer Reid opposite of my character, Olivia Chandler. Olivia is a Gale Weathers type if you know Scream at all, but FAR less of a bitch. I think there’s a lot of longevity for this pair as Olivia is afraid of commitment whereas I see Spencer just hesitant when it comes to romance at all, especially if we set this after Maeve. There’s a lot to her backstory that I think could make for an interesting twist a little further along, but we could do different cases and such and it would be fun! As all of my characters do, Olivia has her own backstory written up and available upon request.

While I haven’t watched S4 of ST yet (atp I’m just waiting for S5 to rewatch all of it lol), I know most of what happens, but this plot would take place more of s2-s3 and maybe in an AU space s4. I’d be playing an original character, Nancy and Mike’s troubled cousin from New York, and would want to pair her alongside Billy Hargrove. I think they’re ‘fuck this small town’ attitudes would work well along with other things.

As for Teen Wolf, I’d love for someone to play Derek Hale against my canon-divergent version of Paige Krasikeva. For those who don’t remember, Paige was teenage Derek’s girlfriend who was scratched by an alpha and Derek had to kill himself. In my version, Derek thinks he killed her but Peter brought her back to life and sent her off with her parents who moved. Now she’s back in season 3A as an adult music teacher at the high school with no memories of Derek or werewolves.

can i get some early seasons samdean recs please i saw in one of your posts you were talking about Them (early seasons obsessed samdean) and i adore them

If you haven't read The Last Outpost of All That Is, I think it's not only the pinnacle of samdean fic but of fanfiction in general (hence the URL). It's set after John's death but before Dean's deal and diverges from canon (but in a way that makes sense).

Let's start with classic authors:

candle_beck is my favorite spn author of all time. I highly recommend all of their work but will specifically shout out Second Map of the World (set in vague early seasons, first time fic), American Myth (same) and For Keeps For Good Forever (S3 AU).

Another classic author is Paxlux -- all their stuff hits the good spot but I will specifically shout out Artery (very poetic, vague early seasons first time) and Watch the Weather Change (interesting early seasons case fic)

Astolat is another "everything is good author" but I'll shout out Kings Queens and Jokers Too (tall tales AU), Leader of the Pack (S3 AU where Sam has powers) and Taking the Fifth, (one of the few actual AUs I really enjoy).

There's also sevenfists, whose work I fully recommend but will specifically shout out Life As We Know It.

Everyone knows nyxocity but I will shout out specifically Like Staring Into the Sun (it's smutty but hits the brothers-obsessed-with-each-other vibe).

More modern authors:

I'm sure you know about hathfrozen but if not, make no delay and go read their stuff! Sooo good at accurately portraying how WEIRD the brothers are. Shoutouts include Dead Unfinished Selves (S3 AU, disturbing), and The Gold Room (sexual tension the fanfic, S2 setting)

Also, applecrumbledore!!!! They are probably my second favorite author after candle_beck. They write obsession so well! Shoutouts to Human Hands (S2 casefic where Sam has powers) and Dream fuckery (no timeline given, case fic). Their other stuff is pre series or late seasons but I would give it a shot too, especially Acid! I haven't seen anything after S10 but I still really enjoyed it. Very much about obsession.

2022 had nothing on 2021, my magical year of fandom, but I did write some things! including one heist AU, two workplace comedies and three post-apocalyptic AUs, each very different from the next. I started the year trundling along in my Ted Lasso groove, was hijacked by pirates, fell briefly into the Upside Down and went on a five-month hiatus from fandom before being suddenly side-swiped by The English earlier this month (I have yet to recover). It has been My Year Of Reluctant Fascination With The American Midwest, and also (semi-relatedly) My Year Of Quoting Bruce Springsteen. In total: wrote eight fics and about 80,000 words.
