Tumgik
#And if you ask yourself: Hey Jay. How did you forget that all those animals existed?
It's time for me to tell you about ears, ducks and me having things in common with Crowley before I even knew good omens existed
The first thing we need to know is... do ducks have ears?
Birds have ears, but their ears are not structured the same as human ears. Birds and humans both have an inner ear and a middle ear. However, birds differ from humans in that they lack an external ear structure
Ok, they have ears. Now... the conversation that I had with @littlekhaos626 years ago
This conversation is translated from another language into English
Do dragons have ears?
Me: I assume so, they can hear
They have ears. But external ears?
But external ears are necessary for the process, right?
This is when I started to look in my head for all the animals I could think of and check if they had external ears. I concluded that yes, they all had
I'm sure I've read that they have relevance when it comes to processing sound
Iguanas? Dinosaurs? Turtles Snakes Birds Reptiles
And that's when I proceed to stare in utter disbelief at all the animals I had forgotten existed
Every time I say something against Crowley, I should remember that I am this person

Hey so I just wanna send in a celebration request for poly jay Halstead and Hailey upton with angst prompts numbers 4,8 which was hard to pick cause all of those seemed so good and heart wrenching
forgotten
fmf pairing: jay halstead x reader x hailey upton
word count: 0.6k
note: hope this was angsty enough 😭
prompt #4: “get out of my fucking life!”
prompt #8: “i hate you, i hate you, i hate you!”
edited note: part 2 is out now. <3
another day has gone by since hailey's panic attack. another day you've been forgotten.
they were in the living room and cuddling while watching a movie. you were making dinner in the kitchen and envying them.
you were supposed to be in a relationship with them—not the third wheel. how can things fall apart? how can they forget that you are supposed to be their world?
after putting down the spoon that you were using to stir the sauce, you walked towards the living room with hesitant steps. not wanting to say what you were about to say, but it's gotten to the point that it's a necessity now.
"when?"
hailey and jay turned their position on the couch so they were facing the back, glancing up at you. his eyebrow raised and the blonde questioned. "when what?"
"when did you forget that i'm here too? it's been a whole month of feeling like i don't exist. how can you sit there and not even look at me?"
hailey looked down and played with her fingers while glancing at jay from the corner of her eye. jay got up slowly with caution as if you were a wild animal and he was the prey. "y/n, we never forgot you. i—"
a tear fell down your cheek but you wiped it quickly before putting your hands up, signaling that he shouldn't get any closer. "no! i hate you, i hate you, i hate you!"
hailey finally shook her head, getting herself out of the funk she was in and got up from the couch. she followed as you backed up but you continued walking to the bedroom. "i've just been having a hard time baby, i'm so sorry."
you turned around to place a duffel bag on the bed that was sitting in the closet. you blew a strand of hair away from your face as you grabbed some clothes as well as toiletries.
the blonde watched you helplessly while leaning against the door and jay came up from behind her to slide his arms around her middle.
you shook your head, ignoring the distraught looks on their faces and continued shoving clothes into the bag.
"sweetheart, please put the bag away and come sit down. can we just talk please?" jay asked and took one of his hands off from hailey to reach his hand out in your direction for you to take.
you felt bad for the zipper when angrily zippering it across the bag. but there was no time to be precious with it, with the need to get out of there fast.
once the bag's strap was around your shoulder, you took a deep breath to contain the emotions struggling to come up to the surface.
then after mentally preparing yourself and turning back around, you walked towards the door frame where they were currently standing.
before either could say anything you treaded past them in a hurry and yelled, "get out of my fucking life!”
the transfer to another precinct was already turned in when you left your shift earlier. after slipping it to trudy on your way out, she immediately picked it up with a frown directed your way.
trudy would never say it to anybody but you were her favorite. but she understood because the past month you've walked in with circles and puffy rings under your eyes.
at night when jay and hailey fell asleep, you'd run the water in the bathroom and lean against the wall. not even blinking up at the ceiling stopped the tears dripping down your cheeks.
you slipped into the seat once the car was unlocked and put the address in the gps. only a total of three hours until you arrive in a new city.
already knowing that soon enough, everybody at the precinct would have forgotten you.
after all, jay and hailey did.

enhypen as characters inspired by animes ᯤ
Tumblr media
tagging @youreverydayzebra @ncityy04 @rheyom
ot7!enhypen x gn!reader, fluff, warnings: mentions of (jokingly) dying, swear words, reader’s in a maid outfit in jay’s one but no mentions of a certain gender, word count: 3.3k
a/n most of these aren’t the same as the animes mentioned but instead just inspired or loosely inspired by the plot! also some of these aren’t the same in word count and i apologise for that ]:
∷ heeseung — orange
heeseung as the new kid at school and he’s so pretty that everyone just. Stops in place and just stares at him as he introduces himself
funnily enough you already saw this coming, realising this was the same heeseung the letter you received that morning told you about
what was funnier was the fact that letter was coming from the future you
you didn’t believe it Then because like... it kinda sounds too stupid to be true
but then BOOM there heeseung is
your teacher makes him sit beside you and you’re just trying to wrap your head around how crazy all of this is
your letter even told you that he was going to sit beside you, why was all of this coming true????
you didn’t read on because you were in a rush to get to school but maybe if that letter warned you about how pretty he was, you wouldn’t of been that flustered when he started talking to you
“hey i’m heeseung!” “ummm yeah, i’m y/n... yeah”
when school ends you RACE home to get to that letter again
rest of heeseung + of the members under the cut!
your future self was gonna have a lot of explaining to do...
turns out the future you Let this same heeseung walk out of your life so now you have to fix this
“dear past me, i can’t believe i was this stupid to let him leave my life like this— how stupid am i??”
now you make it your mission to keep your barely started relationship not go rocky
and oh boy would that be a challenge for the years to come
not because heeseung’s a terrible bf, future you just gave terrible tips
everyday after that you and heeseung (like the letter said) turned into great friends
great friends as in friends that people think that are dating
soon that friendship became a relationship... and a very strong one to be honest
your letters were weirdly very accurate
a firework festival... how he confessed to you... all of it was in those letters
honestly you should scold them for letting heeseung get away!!
you secretly wanna tease them that YOU have heeseung by your side and they don’t but... you can’t really do that
you tell heeseung about the letters one day and he just. Stares at you in astonishment
because he also received letters on the same day you got them from future him too
turns out future you and heeseung both regret their decision
poor them but at least present you gets to kiss heeseung whenever you want 😇
not to spoil anything but heeseung didn’t end up walking out of your life <3 instead you two are now sickly in love
∷ jay — maid-sama
you work at a maid café mainly because you needed the money and honestly... it wasn’t even that bad of a job
i mean compared to your school president life — trying to keep teenage boys out of trouble — happily serving polite and friendly (most of the time) customers was definitely a steal
one boy in particular gave you a bit more trouble than the rest of them however
he wasn’t bad or anything, just... a serial heart breaker
jay park was always on your radar due to the fact so many people would go up to you asking you to tell him to be nicer with his rejections
he wasn’t complied to be nicer but 😍 what can you do
safe to say that you didn’t think you had the best relationship with him
you couldn’t understand him even more when you saw him prettily sitting at the tables at your work
may i add, with you in your very own maid outfit as well as a twitching eye
“y/n! looking great” “thanks m-ma-mas—” “your customer service is terrible”
and the fact he came every day after that day made you feel Terrified
and also a little excited to go to work but you’d never admit that!!!
having him stare at you while you cheerily wrote with ketchup on omelettes was... definitely not how you thought your relationship would be like
he would also make small talk too
and visit you after your shift!!! walking you home
now... his daily visits turned into genuine great conversations on the way home
you realised he wasn’t as bad as you made him out to be
he just had strong beliefs that he should only accept a confession if it’s from someone he loves
you didn’t know how... but now You Have Feelings For him.
and seeing him when smile at you every time you serve him at that little maid café... ARGGGG it drove you absolutely mad
the way he oozed out confidence... was sweet and quite literally the prettiest person you’ve ever seen... how could you not
and what other way to confess to him than at the very place your relationship blossomed at!
you wrote “i like you” with ketchup on fried rice for him... yeah
thankfully he was over the moon and Had to hold back kissing you in front of the customers
now you two were dating <3 with the help of a maid café
and that really only left you with one more question
“why did you start visiting this maid café in the first place?”
∷ jake — kimi no todoke
being the quiet student is never. a good thing
especially when you’re ostracised by your class because you never participate
you actually want to but you can’t build any confidence to do so
you never caught the attention of anyone
well... besides a certain popular boy by the name of jake sim
oh boy was this gonna be a culture shock to the girls that have a crush on him
he noticed you on the first day of school when you asked him for directions to your classroom
he won’t ever forget it, the way you had a huge excited smile on his face as the cherry blossoms fell softly around you
he quotes, it looked like you came straight out of heaven because it looked like you had wings on you
he didn’t know how to get your attention though.
every time he tried to do so you wouldn’t even look at him and would just look down at your desk
it hurt him to see you so isolated
that’s when he had the bright idea to ask you if you wanted to walk with him home
bad idea (kinda), because you did accept but you didn’t know what to do the whole time because you’ve never walked home with someone before
it was bad enough that jake was absolutely Stunning. like blindingly attractive
you didn’t know what to say at all
well until you came across a small puppy making it’s way up to the two of you
they were so cute that you just squealed out of excitement
jake was so surprised to hear Something from you that he just instantly put on this huge genuine grin
“there’s no tag on them!” your upsetting tone sent jake into haywire
he literally watched you pet that dog with literal heart eyes he wasn’t even being sutble
he takes a picture of you and he Stupidly leaves the ringer on so you hear him and everything
he was so embarrassed about it
“did you just take a picture of me?” “y-yeah” “oh... is that what people do?”
you literally had no idea how to interact with people so you thought what he did was Normal
somehow this caused jake’s crush on you to develop Quick
especially when you grabbed his hand to pull you closer to the dog
his heart was beating so fast he didn’t know what to do
he is self proclaimed the biggest dog lover but for some reason... he wasn’t even looking at the dog, not even trying to play with it
he was just staring at you with his doting eyes as you smiled and giggled while playing with the dog
he wasn’t gonna confess yet though because he still has to develop your relationship
in true shoujo romance anime fashion, he was gonna confess twelve episodes (probably a year) later <3
∷ sunghoon — ao haru ride
no i definitely did not put sunghoon for ao haru ride because i have a huge crush on kou and sunghoon... /s
you and sunghoon were in the same elementary class because... fate
you had the biggest crush on him and even your mom knew him because he was a well known figure skater
but who didn’t have a crush on him was the real question
being the young confident elementary student you were, you always talked to him
forever talking to him to the point where you two were Actually really good friends
you thought you were on cloud9
but. turns out figure skating takes a lot more training than you had thought so
you literally cried Buckets and Buckets when you found out he had to train in like russia for an unsure amount of time
there was no way on contacting him too since you had no phone, no nothing
so he left. and you didn’t know what to do with yourself
ok flash forward noises
now you’re in high school! still... gripping onto that crush you have on sunghoon
but you think it’s fine since you are Functioning without him i guess
well until you bump into someone with a very familiar voice...
“watch where you’re going” talk about passive Aggressive 🤨
and when you look up because obviously you were gonna start yelling at him
well. You just froze in shock when you were faced with sunghoon’s raised eyebrow smirking at you
and what was the logical thing to do apparently?
cry. right in front of him.
he just froze as he watched you sob while everyone stared at him
he was trying to explain himself while at the same time Dragging you Away because he couldn’t let you just cry in the middle of the hallway
now you two were at the top of some stairway as you sniffled recovering from your endless crying
“why were you crying? “how could i not when you’re here?”
turns out that sunghoon Knew you were at the same school as him but wanted you to figure it out yourself
it took you almost six months. to figure out sunghoon was in your grade.
but what next? do you rekindle your friendship or...
“i’ve changed” okay maybe that answered your question
and before he could even explain himself he just... Got up and left????? for no reason
and that’s when tsundere sunghoon started to come into play.
you constantly tried talking to him but it would end up with the two of you bickering
you walked home the same way too
weirdly enough He was very nice to you sometimes
letting you place your head on his shoulder, lovingly smiling at you, being very Oddly romantic
he was giving you mixed signals.
and there came that old elementary school crush... gearing back up for a second round
“what are we?” now you decided being bold was the right thing to do
he just stared at you and shrugged.
now here comes the water works
you started crying uncontrollably Again but this time sunghoon looked really guilty and comforted you
he even hugged you. (Wow... Development)
he then explained to you that he Likes you (omg) but he’s scared that he might have to pack up and leave you again and he doesn’t want you to get too attached
and you’re like “we have each other’s numbers this time though?”
sunghoon’s just like Ohhhh
that’s how you started dating
and rekindled that elementary crush (successfully)
∷ sunoo — toilet-bound hanako-kun
being the bold and adventurous person you are. You decided to call onto your school’s very own ghost
because you had the biggest crush on this upperclassman you needed the support of a Spirit to help you
“ummmm hey... school spirit, i’m kinda in love with someone and i heard—” “hi” and then you fall onto the ground because something scares you
turns out the spirit’s name is sunoo and you just summoned him
it also turns out this spirit was kinda cute 😟
he had offered you something like a book — telling you if you follow all the rules — you’ll end up dating your crush
turns out it was just a middle school romance book you could of bought at dollar tree.
you were rightfully mad at him Since all you did was end up embarrassing yourself
somehow during your argument, your eyes caught a glimpse of something in his pocket
you took it. because you deserved it
and ATE IT when sunoo told you that it grants you any wish when consumed
you didn’t even need to listen to any of the disclaimers because it was already in your stomach
one things turns into another and now you’re a spiritually bound fish to sunoo.
turns out what you ate was mermaid scales and he needed to eat one too so you could turn human (he told you he can’t explain it because it’s a long story!)
you two are now bonded together (4lyfe 🥺🤞) and you aren’t that happy due to the fact he was always teasing you and playing around with you!!!!
you were now his human assistant.
you helped him with cleaning the toilets and he helped you by saving you from the supernatural
very well balanced relationship
you grew very fond of sunoo as time went on
even though you almost died a few times... he was always there to save you from whatever the spiritual world had to offer
i won’t spoil anything but... school spirit sunoo seemed to have a soft spot for you too 😇
you showed him your passion for art and everything like that
you tried to dodge questions about the... y’know... why he was a spirit
knowing that it would probably hurt him
plus he didn’t have all those things coming after him for nothing
falling in love with a ghost wasn’t what... you were expecting when you first joined your school
but i guess you had no choice since he was spiritually bound to you!
∷ jungwon — whisper of the heart
you loved the library dearly, you loved reading and writing— just books in general
your favourite place was a really big cosy library a few minutes away from your house
you had always borrowed more than three books every visit
and every time you would look at who borrowed the book, the same exact name would show up each book you borrowed
“yang jungwon... he seems to have good taste in books”
you would dreamily sigh thinking about what this jungwon looked like
later on in the week you were writing a story at the park— y’know, normal things
your friend called you out of the blue for some reason rushing for you to help them
out of panic you forgot your book on the bench and didn’t realise when you had finally finished helping out your friend
to your surprise there was already someone sitting on the bench
and Reading Your Very Own Story
you literally just run up to him and snatch it from his hands because you’re embarrassed!!!
what didn’t help was the fact that the first thing he did was Laugh in your face about it .
he called your story stupid!!! and critiqued it!!!!
you just bicker with him and complain to your friend about it later that night
the next day you thought that... maybe if you went to the library again you might spot this yang jungwon
so you make it your mission to get to the library
funnily enough your plan had failed in an instant when your eyes caught a cat that you just became curious about
you followed it because it just wouldn’t stop getting away from you
it also looked like it was taking you somewhere but 😦
after a tiring ten minutes of following this cat from hell and back. It brought you to this old antique shop
you instantly fell in love with the store and everything in it
you were so distracted by everything that you hadn’t realised someone was behind you
you could feel your eyes widen when you realised it was the same boy from the park
holding that same cat you were following too????
“why are you here?” his eyes literally started Squinting at you
he then proceeded to tell you about how his vocal lessons were nearby and more importantly that the cat was His
he asks you if you want to go visit where he does his lessons and Obviously being as curious as you were, you accepted
when he brought you there you could see his eyes instantly sparkle from just being there cute... kinda
he even started to sing for you and that’s when you thought that he wasn’t that bad
some of his teachers started to join in too and before you knew it, the sun was already gone and you’ve spent the whole time with some boy that you were supposed to hate
“jungwon, who’s your friend” your body Froze in shock when you heard that name
jungwon thought you were stupid for not knowing your name and now you realise you’ve been crushing on him this whole time
(i refuse to continue on more with this because it’ll be too long unless some of you want a oneshot of this 😍)
∷ ni-ki — haikyuu
being forced by your teacher to sign up to be some volleyball team’s manager was Not that fun to experience
but there you were, managing a volleyball practice of that very own team
thankfully, it was safe to say you had a good relationship with all of them
and an even Better relationship with a certain volleyball player
nishimura riki and you were practically glued to the hip
you were so incredibly thankful that he was the first one to speak to you when you first started becoming their manager
the rest of them were tall and scary but riki was just tall and friendly
he was so energetic and just So bright that you couldn’t help but look forward to seeing him every day you had practice
he would even teach you how to play volleyball
like he’d be like “isn’t this move so cool? let me teach you it!”
at this point you could be a professional volleyball player with the help of riki
you were overjoyed watching them win their final match to compete in the spring interhigh
you were also incredibly happy to know that riki scored the winning point
he couldn’t stop telling you about it and you just kept excitedly praising him and not to play favourites but you weren’t this excited when heeseung scored the previous winning point
even though you and your team were excited, you could feel how nervous they were when they entered the huge gymnasium
they were surrounded by all the best high school volleyball teams in the country
the very first team they went up against gave them a very Tough time
you remember sweating so hard when the scores were almost the same, the other team leading in that set
you decided that. Maybe you could help
“riki! you can do it” your shouting somehow caused riki to instantly become energised
everything was a blur up until your team had Won the match
and all because you gave riki some encouragement
he literally ran to you the second they had won and almost knocked you down
you didn’t wanna tell him that he was sweaty so you just let him carry on hugging you tightly
the rest of the team was like “why didn’t you cheer us on like you did with riki?”
and when you tried to explain your face just started heating up like crazy
so you ignored the subject.
riki just took it as he was your favourite
but what you didn’t want to tell them was the fact that you had a crush on him
as if it wasn’t obvious enough 😟

I've gotten a bit into Dark Deception lately too, and I was just intrigued by the idea of one of the Lucky the Rabbit Joy Joy Gang clones being a Nice defect of all the others with no homicidal tendencies whatsoever who hides away in the maze to avoid being bullied by the others. A similar idea for a Nice Trigger Teddy scared of people and warning them because he doesn't want to blow anybody up. It's another shameless 'these evil characters are cute, i want a Nice One to make into a woobie' situation, which I am guilty of doing a LOT.
I hope you don't mind but I wrote a short story about this concept—
Lefty picked up his feet, hearing the maniacal laughter getting louder and the loud thumping behind him. It wasn’t easy, but he had to outrun them if he wanted to survive.
He skidded around the corner, jumping slightly when he heard the wall break behind him which meant only one thing: Hangry was now pursuing him also.
“Get back here! You will join the Joy Joy Gang! Joy! Joy! Joy!”
All that did was prompt Lefty to push harder to run, he was terrified of being captured and reprogrammed, knowing they would likely completely wipe his memory, meaning he'd forget everything— his family, his children, his friends, and his love.
He saw a door ahead and ran towards it, almost jumping towards it as he felt pain shot up from his leg where Hangry had grabbed him before and bit him, luckily he managed to escape but his ability to run was kind of hindered.
He grabbed the door knob, pushing it open and immediately slamming it behind him, he quickly looked around the room to survey the location and spotting items such as a desk, chairs, and lockers, which he could use to barricade the door.
He limped over quickly, pushing the desk forward towards the door and turning it down so the top part of the desk was facing directly foward. He heard the familiar “Joy! Joy! Joy!” taunting chant which prompted him to hurriedly pushed the desk against the door.
As soon as he did that, he was startled to see the door handle rattle violently.
“Hey! You're cheating!!” Lefty heard Lucky scream, “Open this door!!”
He backed away slowly, half expecting Hangry to break down the door as he had seen the pig break down countless walls while chasing him, which that was scary to Lefty, as he couldn’t tell where the pig would come from, he could be sneaking away from Lucky and Penny but running straight towards Hangry, who would be waiting around the next corner, ready to smash down the walls to get him.
For some reason, Hangry appeared angry that Lefty was “inedible” as he described, which Lefty guessed it meant that Hangry would probably eat people and he was terrified for a moment that the pig had killed his kids but he remembered that Hangry commented that he hadn’t eaten anything for “so long” and Lefty breathed in relief, realizing that Alec and Hazel were still alive.
They weren’t here, but they were still alive somewhere else.
“You can't delay the inevitable!! This isn’t the end and I won't lose to someone like you!!”
Lucky viewed this as a game, Lefty shivered, he pressed himself against the wall, raising his injured leg, trying to think of what he could do to fix it immediately so he could continue to search for an exit.
He didn’t know how he came here, only recalling that he was walking downstairs with Fetch by his side to make breakfast, then he woke up, face down on the concrete at the entrance of this twisted amusement park. He didn’t care at this point how he got here, he just wanted to leave immediately, he had a sick feeling this was a trap, a trap designed to separate him from his family and friends so they were defenceless.
He hoped that Alec and Hazel were okay, he knew in the past that he had instructed them as well as Matt and Stanley that if he was unable to protect them, they had to, they had to run to protect themselves and hopefully Lefty would find them later. He didn’t care about being rescued, he did care about what they might do to Alec and Hazel, as well as his other friends.
So far it didn’t appear that these awful machines had Alec and Hazel, Lefty was sure if they did, they would have mentioned it as a means to get him to cooperate. It could mean however that Alec and Hazel were held by someone else, as he had heard Lucky mention an entity named “Malak”, which that completely disapproved Lefty's initial suspicions that Nightmare was behind this, with yet another plan to bring harm to Alec and Hazel.
All he wanted was to get back to them as soon as possible.
His heart leapt when he heard something behind him, he immediately turned his head around to the source of the noise. He saw a locker door had pulled itself backwards.
His suspicion level rose, he slowly marched over, walking to the side of the locker that he saw had opened.
And he roughly pushed it to the side.
The locker easily tumbled down with a loud bang and Lefty heard an audible “OUCH!” from inside it
“I know you're watching me!” Lefty exclaimed, “Come out! I'm sick of you horrible Joy Joy gang members tormenting me!!” He kicked the side with his good leg, hearing another “OUCH!” from inside.
He stood still, prepared to attack, watching the locker door rattle before it swung open.
Lefty backed away, seeing a large gloved hand reach out.
A Lucky robot pulled itself out of the locker, laying on the floor for a moment before standing up straight.
Lefty immediately curled his fingers and delivered a swift punch to his face.
“OUCH!” Lucky exclaimed, holding his nose, “You're hurting me!”
“That's the idea dipshit!” Lefty snarled, “Now let me leave! Call off your gang and all your doppelgängers, let me walk out of here!”
It shook its head, “I'm not doing it!!”
“I don’t care if you’re the leader or the underling! I will keep fighting despite being injured! So it's better if you just stop!!” Lefty grabbed his ears, pulling him down.
“BUT I'M NOT HURTING YOU!!”
“Are you playing reverse psychology?”
“LOOK AT ME!! DO I LOOK LIKE ONE OF THEM??”
Lefty froze, looking over this particular Lucky model. He did notice it didn’t look “show ready” as he would describe it, as it had several missing suit parts, particularly on one arm, from the lower arm to the finger tips, it was just an exposed robot arm. The suit also looked dirty, with obvious mud caked on the feet, dried up black oil around its eyes, the fur at some parts looked matted, like he hadn’t been cleaned in a long time.
“I'm hiding also,” The rabbit explained, “I'm hiding from them.”
“What are you? An unfinished prototype?” Lefty let go off his ears.
“Malak said I'm a defect!”
“A defect...?” Lefty said skeptically, he knew that “defect” could mean anything, it didn’t necessarily mean this one was good, it could mean that it was missing some important programming. He was also a little confused about the tone in which he had said “defect”, like he didn’t understand what it meant.
“I don’t like them... they're mean... so I've been hiding anywhere I could basically!” Lucky exclaimed, “The concept of killing people doesn’t appeal to me.”
“How do I know you're not lying through your teeth right now?” Lefty frowned.
“I know why you wouldn’t believe me... I know you aren’t one of them... one of the Joy Joy Gang, I mean.”
“Indeed,” Lefty answered, “I just want to go home, to my family... I don’t know where the exit is though and I’ve been chased around in circles by those three,” Lefty exhaled, overwhelmed.
“Maybe... Maybe I can help you to escape! I have a map of this place installed in my memory!”
“As if I'll blindly follow you,” Lefty knew he couldn’t just blindly trust anyone in a strange place.
“How can I...? Oh! I know! Your leg!” Lucky pointed at it, “Looks like you've caused some damage to the main connection on the knee joint... you need a replacement if you want to run as fast as you can... I don’t have a replacement part on me right now, but rubber bands can help hold the joint steady temporarily so it won’t break further! Hopefully long enough for you to escape and get back to your family!”
Lefty tilted his head, “Why would you help me?”
“I want to... I've seen too many people being killed... and hearing you have a family... I know they'd be devastated if you died!” Lucky shook his head.
“I... I don’t know if I can trust you...” Lefty admitted.
“How about I tell you what you need to do with the Joy Joy Gang? You just need to electrify them!” Lucky replied, “That'll stun them long enough for you to have a chance to escape!”
“Is there anything I can do about Hangry? He's a real big problem for me right now.”
“Hangry... you can try roaring at him... he doesn’t like animals like lions or bears...”
Lefty frowned, that seemed too simple and he knew there was likely a catch, “Suppose I could... Alright... so...”
“Lucky.”
“For personal reasons, I'd rather not call you Lucky, I've had a bad experience with someone named Lucky and what's going on right now isn’t helping... can I give you a nickname instead?” Lefty suggested
“Okay!” He seemed happy at the suggestion, “What do you wanna call me?”
Lefty thought for a minute, he didn’t want something too silly, or something too unusual, but he wanted it to be distinctive.
“How about... Jai?” Lefty asked.
He saw his eyes lit up, “Ooooo Jai! That sounds so interesting!”
“It means victory.”
“Wow! I finally have a name, maybe I can stop associating myself with... that other guy...” He frowned.
“Well...” Lefty extended out his arm, “My name is Lefty.”
“Hello Lefty! I'm Jai!” He proudly introduced himself, shaking Lefty's arm, “Wow! That felt amazing! Just to introduce myself like that, as someone separate from the Joy Joy Gang!”
“I apologize also for attacking you,” Lefty shook his head.
“Oh I understand and it's forgiven... now how about I find those rubber bands and you can tell me more about yourself in the meantime, I wanna know about your family! If that's okay of course...”
Lefty chuckled, smiling at Jai.

Morpeus’ Mirror
Fandom/Characters: Batman Comics, Duke Thomas & Jay Thomas
Wordcount: 5621
Summary: Duke wakes up, and the world is perfect. Someone’s idea of perfect, at least. Or: Duke wakes up in Jay’s perfect world.
Warnings: suspected suicide attempt and probably an unrealistic portrayal of how a hospital would handle that (the suspicion is wrong, btw), a quick scene of a car crash, references to transphobia.
Notes: Written for @duketectivecomics’s Duke Week, Day 3: Free Day (yes I did decide to wholly ignore the meme theme to write a 5000+ word character study fic, bite me). You can read this on AO3 here!
///
For a second, he forgets what he is doing.
"Duke!" His mom shouts from the bathroom. "Have you seen my wig?"
It snaps back to reality. He's holding a knife and a hot piece of toast, and beside him, his dad's making coffee.
"You have like twelve!" he shouts back, hastily reaching for the butter. "Which one?"
"The nice one!"
"Oh, yeah, that narrows it down." He spares a glance at the clock. "Mom, you have three hours until work, and I have thirty minutes till school, figure it out yourself."
"Young man, don't you dare leave the room while I'm -"
And he runs out of the door, toast in his mouth like some kind of anime girl, his dad laughing loudly behind him. He needs to catch the bus -
Stops. He doesn't need to catch the bus. School is barely a five minute walk away. Dad told him once they'd specifically chosen the apartment for that reason.
A bit of honey drips onto his jacket, and he quickly angles his toast away from it. The streets of Gotham are never empty, except maybe at night, so it's already busy even though it's barely 8 AM. He forgot his hat when he left, and huddles into the fur lining of his coat. Of course, snow started falling as soon as he stepped outside, and little snowflakes stick to his hair. They disappear when they land on the ground, but that probably won't last.
He goes back inside.
"Remembered that you live five minutes from school?" Dad asks, bemused.
"Shut up."
"What'd you say?"
"Nothing."
"That's what I thought."
Duke rolls his eyes and goes to sit with his dad at the table. "Should I bother finishing my toast before helping mom find her wig, or will she kill me if I do that?"
"You're in luck, she already found it." Dad sips his coffee. "Any other important life facts you're forgetting?"
"I make one mistake -"
"What are you doing today?"
"Obviously -" he stops. Opens his mouth. Closes it again.
Dad grins. "That's what I thought. For your information, you and Jay are going to the mall to buy Christmas gifts."
Duke slams his face on the table and groans. "How did I forget that?"
His dad pats him on the shoulder. "We all have those days, kiddo."
"Don't call me that."
"I'm your father and I can call you what I want."
And for some reason, hearing those words almost makes him tear up. Duke swallows through the lump in his throat, and says, "I'm eating this toast and leaving."
When he steps out the door again, fifteen minutes later, the snow's falling harder, and there's already a thin white coating on the railing.
Luckily, this time, he didn't forget his hat.
///
Thankfully, the mall isn't busy, and it actually doesn't take long for him and Jay to find their presents. They almost walk past the McDonalds on their way back, look at each other, change their mind and go order.
"You know our parents will hate us for this, right?" Jay says, casually.
Duke snorts. "They let us go out alone, it's not like they didn't expect this."
"Hey!" Jay points at him with a fry. "You may be a baby, but I'm a grown adult. My parents don't 'let' me do anything."
Duke wants to reply, but his mind blanks. For a moment, it's like he short-circuits. Then he comes back online.
"So, how are you doing?" Jay asks. "Haven't seen you in a while."
Duke shakes his head. "Good, I think. I mean, same old, same old, you know?"
Jay smiles. "I'm glad to hear that."
///
He can't sleep. No real reason for it, seemingly, his brain just decided that it didn't want to function tonight. With nothing to do that won't wake up his parents, he just scrolls his phone.
It's quiet, like always, nothing really going on at night. For some reason, he keeps checking the news, as if any of the updates interest him. Just a bunch of rich people talk, some minor crimes. Gotham hasn't been real dangerous in years, not since the Joker was finally transferred to some high-tech prison out in another state, and the newspapers still haven't quite adjusted.
He looks out the window. The next apartment building is quite a ways over, but there's some poles sticking out. Though it's too dark for him to accurately gauge the distance, he could use those to swing over, he thinks. For a moment, he lets himself imagine it, jumping from pole to pole, knowing he'd die if he missed even one, and a smile slips onto his face.
A soft knock snaps him out of his thoughts. "Duke?" his mom's voice comes through the door. "Are you awake?"
Duke tip-toes out of bed to open the door, and there his mom stands, still in her cap and nightgown, leaning against his doorpost. "Mom? What are you doing up?"
"I'm supposed to meet a kid in two hours." She raises an eyebrow. "What are you doing up?"
He shrugs. "Couldn't sleep."
His mom studies him, using that analytic gaze he imagines she studies new kids with at work with, and asks, "Any reason why?"
"Not really. Just wasn't my day. Night, whatever."
"Ah." Her brow furrows. "How much did you sleep?"
"Dunno -"
"Don't know."
"Don't know. Five hours?"
She grimaces. "Are you feeling okay enough to go to school today?"
He does. Five hours of sleep is much less than he's used to, but for some reason, he barely feels it. "Sure."
His mom nods. "Good. Well, do you want to have breakfast with me?"
"Please."
The clock says it was already six. It'd been four when Duke woke up, and he hasn't checked the time since. Hard to believe he'd spent the entire time scrolling through Gotham Gazette headlines, but hey, stranger things had happened.
It is peaceful early in the morning. His mom puts water on for tea, and Duke listens to the soft whistling of the kettle as he looks outside. In the morning light, it is clear that he wouldn't ever be able to make the jump to the next building, not even if he used the poles.
It's weird that this disappoints him.
///
Duke stops in his tracks when he sees Jay waving at him.
"Jay?" Duke asks, confused. "What're you doing here?"
Students stream past them, eager to get away from school as fast as possible, glaring at Duke for stopping in the middle of the entrance. Jay grins. "Was in the neighbourhood and figured I'd ask if you wanted to get something to eat."
"You got the money for that?"
"Sure." He gestures at Duke to follow him, which he does, unblocking the entrance. "Didn't I tell you? I got a promotion at the Gazette."
Duke blinks. "Really?" He bumps Jay's shoulder. "That's great, dude!"
"It is!" Jay's eyes glow almost as much as his smile. "And it means I've got something extra to spend, even with Christmas coming up."
They go to a café they used to go to as kids. Duke remembers running underneath the tables as Jay tried to catch him, Aunt Jacky complaining while Uncle Mack and Duke's parents just laughed. But it's been years since he'd last gone, and he has to study the menu before ordering a hot chocolate and brownie.
"God," he says, swallowing a piece. "This is divine. Remind me why we don't go here more often?"
"No money," Jay replies easily.
"I don't care, I'll do the dishes for this, I'll make a deal with the manager."
Duke washes the brownie down with even more chocolate, in liquid form this time, and Jay asks him, "So, how's school?"
He grimaces. "Boring, mostly. I swear it's gotten worse in the past few weeks. I remember being able to get through a day without wanting to fall asleep, but I really can't tell you how."
"But you've been keeping your grades up? Have you gotten in any fights recently?"
"No, though God knows I've wanted to." Duke raises an eyebrow. "Hey, what's that 'recently' supposed to mean? The last time I got in a fight was three years ago!"
Jay's fork stops halfway to his mouth, a piece of cheesecake precariously balancing on the edge of it. "Huh," he says, not moving an inch. "I suppose it was."
"And what do you care about my grades, anyway?" Duke goes on. "It's not like you're my dad."
Jay puts the cheesecake down. "I guess not."
There's a weird edge to his tone, as if he's only halfway there. Then the waiter comes to ask if they want a refill, and Duke forgets all about it.
///
The Thomas family isn't large, but their apartment is small, so Christmas is always an affair. There's sounds of pans clanging and people talking coming from the kitchen, intermingling with The Grinch and Stella's excited screeches as Grandpa bounces her on his lap. Jay's next to him holding napkins and cutlery, following after him as he sets the plates down.
Uncle Mack and Aunt Jacky come out of the kitchen, carrying gravy and mashed potatoes, and Aunt Jacky smiles at him, and suddenly, it feels like a noose is constricting around his throat. He only barely manages to keep the rest of the plates from shattering.
"Are you okay?" Jay asks from behind him, a worried edge to his tone.
"Fine," he manages to force out. "Just need some air. Sorry."
He pushes past Jay, and as he leaves, he catches Uncle Mack walking to Jay, and nearly turns back around to - what? To what?
Why's he angry?
Shutting the bedroom door does next to nothing to shut out the noise, so he opens the window and sticks his head out of it. It's dark enough that he turns to the sky, half expecting to see the bat signal, but there hasn't been a need for that in years, has there? The uniquely Gotham smell of smog, garbage, and wet stone wafts through the air, and it feels comforting, familiar, but it does nothing to dampen the anger in his chest.
What's wrong with him?
///
Jay showed up at their doorstep, drenched in rain, clenching a half-zipped bag of clothes, and cried his eyes out on his mother's shoulder while his dad was in the other room, yelling so loud that Duke could hear every word.
"Your own child!" he screamed. "I don't give a shit what your 'beliefs' are, how could you do that to your own child!"
///
A hand lands on his shoulder, and Duke nearly throws himself out of the window.
"Hey, whoa," Jay pulls him back and steadies him. "You okay? What's going on?"
"Why are Aunt Jacky and Uncle Mack here?" Duke asks. "They were banned from Christmas ages ago."
Jay frowns. "What are you talking about?"
"Uh, they kicked you out?" Duke says slowly. "For being trans? It was a whole deal, super traumatic, mom recommended therapy but you never went?"
Jay looks at him like he's crazy. "Duke, I'm not trans."
Now it's Duke's turn to look at him like he's crazy. "Yes you are? I distinctly remember you being trans on numerous occasions, including but not limited to when you were buying me my first binder."
Jay looks so weirded out it's almost funny. "Why would you need a binder if you don't have breasts?"
"Yes I d-"
He doesn't.
It's - he's only just noticed. He doesn't have breasts. His body is completely different from what he remembers, and it's not - not unpleasant, but -
"Duke, unless this is your weird way of coming out, you're not trans."
"Yes I am," he snaps.
He remembers going to his first pride, the elation he felt when he got his first flag, helping younger kids at the GSA, getting into fights with the school about changing his name, getting into fights with social workers about changing his name - why did he have a social worker, did mom bring him to work -
"Duke, I think you're drunk."
"What? How would I even be -"
At that moment, he sways, and Jay barely manages to catch him.
"Someone must've spiked your drink," he hears him say, from far away. "Probably Grandpa, that's his idea of a joke. Maybe you should just sleep it off."
Before Duke can reply, he's asleep.
///
The teacher drones on and on about something or another, and all Duke can do is watch the seconds tick by on the clock before he's free again. Around him, his classmates are doing the same, and as one, they jump up when the bell rings.
Jay isn't there to come pick him up. He's been doing that more often, lately, which is kind of weird, but it's not like Duke minds. Still, it's nice to have some time for himself again.
He walks home on autopilot, thinking about the amount of chemistry homework he's got, debating whether it's worth ripping the answers from the internet or the glass groupchat, whether his parents would notice if he did that, if it'd come back to bite him during the test -
and he's not close to his house at all.
He blinks, and he's in a rich people neighbourhood, way, way too rich for him. The houses here are larger than his entire apartment block, and in the distance, he can even see Wayne Manor. Only now does he notice how much his feet hurt, and how much lower the sun has sunken. He must've walked half the city to get here.
Why on Earth did he go here?
///
"Any reason you're so late?"
Duke kicked off his shoes. "Walked to the wrong house."
Jay just continued to stare at him, arms folded.
"I'm serious!" Duke protested. "I've been going to Wayne Manor for a year now, is it so weird it'd be a habit by now?"
"What, you weren't picked up in a limousine?"
Duke shrugged. "I liked the walk."
///
"Jay wants to know if you're free tomorrow."
Mom sticks her head through his door, a phone in her hand. Duke groans from where he's buried himself into his arms, sitting over the three separate textbooks he's supposed to study before next week.
She chuckles. "I'll tell him that's a no."
///
"Have you been keeping up with your friends at school?"
Duke raises an eyebrow. They're sitting in the café, celebrating the end of the exams with even more chocolate than usual. "What are you, my mom?"
Jay rolls his eyes. "Can't a cousin be worried?"
Duke shrugs. "Honestly, we just don't... seem to click anymore? I don't know, I just don't feel the need to hang out with them. That said, no, a cousin can't be worried, dude, I already get more than enough of this from my parents. Lay off."
When it's time to leave, it occurs to Duke that Jay'd been quieter than usual.
///
His parents are driving, talking to each other in the front seat while Duke plays a game on his phone in the back. His mother laughs.
A car rams into their front, metal compressing, stopping just before it reaches Duke but easily catching his parents, and Duke has just enough time to think they're dea-
///
"Duke?" his mom leans into his room. "Sweetie, we need to talk."
His parents are standing in the doorway, with a weird expression Duke can't quite place.
Later, he figures it was a mixture of guilt and pride; guilt for leaving Duke, and pride for having landed their dream jobs, even if they took them far away from Gotham.
"We'll Skype," his dad promises, but it doesn't stop Duke from feeling oddly empty.
///
Life at Jay's isn't that different from life with his parents, at the end of the day. They have different habits, of course; his mom always insisted on a good breakfast, but Jay just grabs a banana and runs out the door. His dad liked reading, Jay prefers watching sports. But when it all comes down to it, he goes to the same school, and has roughly the same rules.
His parents' absence... it's not that it doesn't bother him, because it does, more than it, by all rights, should. They Skype daily, and they seem happy, and they'll come to visit him in a month or two. But every time he wakes up and finds himself in an unfamiliar bedroom, when he doesn't hear his dad's off-key singing in the bathroom and the smell of his mom's coffee, it's all he can do to stop himself from crying. There's a hole in his stomach, an emptiness he should find strange, but instead, it's weirdly familiar.
He goes through his days with a clawed out stomach and doesn't tell Jay about it, or anyone else, for the matter. He doesn't want to talk about it, doesn't even know how to explain it, and besides, Jay's so happy to care for Duke. Not that he's told him, but it's noticeable in the way Jay smiles more, comes home earlier from work, pats his shoulder, and pays attention to his grades. Caring for another suits him. He'll be a good father, one day.
But Duke still has his parents, and the scheduled Skype call feels more out of place than their absence, somehow. He clings to it like a dying man.
///
"What're you reading?" Jay asks one day, after he comes home.
Duke's upside down on the couch, casually flipping through a pamphlet. "A karate black belt gave a replacement-gym-class-thingy at school today," he says, scanning the dojo's opening times. "He said he could give us a discount if we wanted to come learn at his dojo."
"No," Jay snaps, and the ferocity with which he said it made Duke look up. Jay's shoulders are tense, the fist with which he's holding the grocery bags white-knuckled. His jaw's set tight, and there's an odd determination in his eyes. "You're not fighting."
"I mean, it's not like I'd be fighting for real," Duke argues. "Just seems fun to learn something new, you know."
"Absolutely not."
"But -"
"I said no!"
And that's the end of the conversation.
///
He watches the clock tick by, second by second, as the teacher drones on and on, and he doesn't catch a word of it. It all slips past him as if it isn't even there. Around him, his classmates watch the teacher, and even the ones least interested still seem like they're there.
Duke doesn't feel like he's there.
Twenty seconds have passed. Four hours until school ends.
///
The days pass by, one after another, always the same, and Duke lives them as if they're not real. It feels like he's an alien, watching everyone live their normal lives in their normal ways, listening to Jay tell him about the mundane problems at his job, hearing his classmates talk about their own childish issues. Duke knows he used to be one of them, the same way he knows he used to be a baby, born a little too early, but just like that, he cannot remember how that was, how it felt, or if he was even truly alive back then.
One evening, he doesn't know why, he starts looking up old news. Articles about the crimes the Riddler used to commit, the ones where Batman couldn't solve the riddle in time and had to resort to brute force to rescue the people involved. And he grabs a pen and paper, and he tries to solve it.
Before he knows it, Jay is knocking at his door, telling him he needs to get up and go to school.
He hasn't slept that night, and feels more alive than he has in ages.
///
It becomes an obsession, of sorts. Look up old riddles, solve them, and when he runs out of those, look up other crimes by the former Gotham villains, see if he can figure out an alternate way Batman could've solved them. He starts looking into the Robins; it's common knowledge there's been at least three, but the only shift anyone's been able to pin-point was the first, after a nearly-adult Robin was exchanged for a smaller one. So he tries to find the points when they switched.
He shifts through article upon article of Robin, looks at hundreds upon hundreds of pictures, keeps his theories in a little notebook, and in the margins of his schoolwork, and his head during dinner.
A part of him vaguely wonders if it's unhealthy, to think about old vigilantes so obsessively. But he only ever feels alive when he's trying to solve the mystery of the Robins, when he's researching the Rogues and figures out how one of their crimes could've been prevented, when he reads article upon article about Batman and wonders what it would've been like to soar across rooftops.
He doesn't tell Jay. He doesn't know why, but he feels like everything would fall apart if he did.
He's reading an old article on his phone while walking home, and only glancing up when he reaches a traffic light.
There's a girl in the crowd at the other end of the street. She has brown skin, short hair hidden underneath a cap, piercings on her face, and Duke drops his phone as he realizes he recognizes her.
"Izzy -" he shouts, before realizing there's no-one there, and he doesn't know an Izzy.
///
"Look," he said to Izzy. "I still think it's a really, really bad idea to introduce you to Jay."
"Why?" she asked, amused. "Afraid I'll embarrass you?"
"No, afraid he'll make the connection between me, you, and the Robin Collective."
"And if he did, would that be so bad?"
"Would make it a lot easier for him to guess that I'm the Signal."
Izzy rolled her eyes. "You worry too much." And knocked on the door with a smile.
///
The next apartment building is far away, but there's poles in the alley. Duke could probably jump it, if he tried.
His phone is broken; he can't remember why. He remembers that he used it to research something, but he can't remember what. Half his schoolwork has gone missing, which means he'll have to re-do all of it, and he'd kind of rather die.
Not literally. He really, really doesn't want to die.
It's difficult to explain that to Jay, at the hospital.
"Why the fuck would you jump out of the window!" Jay yells, raking a hand over his head. That's another difference between Jay and his parents: Jay actually swears. Duke grimaces.
"I just... wanted to try it," he says lamely. It's a horrible excuse, even to his own ears, and behind Jay, the doctor looks skeptical.
"Mr. Thomas, if you've been having suicidal urges, it's best to be honest about it," she advises, with a kind voice, tapping a pen on her clipboard. "You're exceedingly lucky to have escaped your fall with nothing but a broken ankle, and if a similar... accident happens, we'll have no choice but to put you on suicide watch."
"I'm not suicidal!" Duke protests. "I'm just..." He trails off.
"Just?" Jay asks. There's a wild edge to his voice - no, more than an edge. His voice is so wild it sounds more like he's snarling. His eyes are no better, wide and blown open, as if he's been doing drugs. But he hasn't - he's just worried, worried for Duke, and he's dealing with it by screaming. "Just what, Duke? What could possibly motivate you to pull this shit?"
"I -"
"You're going to die!" Jay cuts him off, his voice near hysterical. "You're going to die doing this! One day, you're not going to land the jump, and you're going to break your neck instead of your ankle! Or you'll get shot, or you'll get beaten to death, or you'll get caught in Joker gas just like -"
///
"- your parents!"
Duke stumbled back, clutching the table. "Don't you dare talk about my parents that way," he hissed.
"Am I wrong?" Jay asked, his voice rising. "You're running at those goddamn crazies, and at some point, you'll be running at the Joker, instead of away from him! What's to stop you from inhaling that gas, just like your parents?"
"You don't get to use them as an argument!" Duke's yelling too now. He'd tried to keep his cool, but he couldn't, not at this, not when Jay decided to bring his parents into it. "You don't get to use the fact that my fucking parents have gotten their minds so poisoned they can't think of anything but horror, can barely sleep, can't spout anything but venom, can't keep down the food they eat, as a goddamn argument!"
"I get to use whatever the hell I need to make you see that you're killing yourself!" Jay shouts back.
"If you'd just listen -"
"I'm done listening." Jay stalked past him, grabbing his coat from the hanger. "I need some air."
"There's an attack going on outside -"
"Well, then maybe you'll get what it feels like to see someone running towards their death"
///
He's home, and his ankle isn't broken, but he remembers it being. He remembers Jay yelling at the hospital. He remembers walking to Wayne Manor instead of his apartment, he remembers having a meltdown over being cis, and he remembers -
He sits down on the roof next to Jay.
"When did you figure it out?" Jay asks, not looking at him.
"Just now," Duke answers. "You?"
"A while ago." Jay leans back, turning his face towards the sun. Their apartment building isn't that high, but still, they can see past a good portion of the Gotham skyline. It stretches out towards the horizon, only interrupted by the occasional bird. "I know I should've said something. You don't need to lecture me."
"I wasn't going to." On the building across from them, a crow is nesting. It stares at Duke with beady eyes, before turning to feed its chicks. "I came in after you, you know."
Jay smiles faintly. "Yeah. I figured."
"We need to wake up."
Jay turns to face him. "Do we?" he asks. "We've been here so long, and we haven't died. We haven't lost anything. We could just... stay, couldn't we?"
But then, as if smelling something bad, Jay's face contorts. "Unless you feel like you have to fight the bad guy, like you," there's bitterness in his tone, "vigilantes do."
"The Dreamer's been defeated already," Duke replies, ignoring Jay's implications for now. "You were the only one we couldn't wake up from the outside."
"Then why leave?" Jay asks. The bitterness has faded from his tone, replaced with something almost pleading. "It's perfect, this life. I know it's not real, but what does it matter, at the end of the day, as long as we're happy?"
Duke sighs. He leans forward slightly, onto his knees. Pain returns to his ankle, and he's careful not to smash it into the building when he swings his legs off the ledge. "Do you know why I jumped out of the window, Jay?"
He rolls his eyes. "I'm assuming you saw a crime happening in the alley and didn't think."
"No. Nothing was happening. Nothing at all. That was the problem." He's sitting there, on the edge of an apartment building, and it might not be that tall, but it's tall enough to make him scared when he looks over the edge. He stares the the ground, and watches people walk in the city beneath him. "That was the problem. I was bored."
"You were bored?" Jay asks, incredulous. "That's it?"
"Have you ever been really, really bored?" Duke asks Jay, still looking down. "Not just not knowing what to do, or feeling aimless; that's normal. I mean, so bored that you start looking at scissors, because if you stabbed them through your hand, you'd have to go through the hospital, and at least that'd be something exciting?"
Duke turns to look at Jay, and finds him horrified, his eyes wide and his hand clamping the edge of the building. Duke smiles. "That's how I feel all the time, now."
Duke gestures to the city around them. "This world - it's your idea of perfect, not mine. Would my parents have gotten into a car crash if it was my dream?"
At that, Jay winces. "I'm sorry. I didn't mean - I don't know why that happened, I'd never want your parents to die. Not just because of - I love them, I really, really do."
"I know," Duke reassures him. "When you walked out the door into the Dreamer's attack, after we had that fight, there was a moment I wished he'd get you." He looks away. "We've all wished for things we didn't mean, even if it lasted only a split second."
Beneath them, a little girl races past a crowd of people to catch the hand of a woman, presumably her mom. "But the point stands; if this was my world, that never would've happened. I love you, Jay, and I appreciate what you've done for me, but if I had a choice, I'd be living with my parents, not you."
Jay shrinks in on himself, a little. "Yeah, I know."
"But that's not all." Duke continues. "You didn't listen when I tried to tell you why I was the Signal. It's because I can't be anything else, now."
The crow at the other building was done feeding her chicks, and flew up again, high above them all. Duke's gaze followed her. "Even if - when my parents get better, I'll keep being the Signal. It's not about duty. I want to help people, yeah, and I absolutely feel like I have a responsibility to do exactly that, because I can. Especially since I've gotten these powers."
Jay's brow furrows. "Powers?"
"I'm a meta," Duke answers. "I can control light, and shadow, now, too. Still trying to figure out how it all works, but, well, with great power comes great responsibility, doesn't it?" He shrugs. "But that's not the real reason I'm doing this."
"Then what is?"
And Duke turns to Jay, leaning away from the edge, and smiles. "Because I like it," he says. "Because I'm an adrenaline junkie. At this point, I've spent so much time escaping death at the last second, that going back to a normal life just wouldn't work." He gestures towards his ankle, now wrapped in a cast. "I think we've proven that, here."
"So I'm just supposed to - what?" Jay asks, balling his fists. "Accept that you're going to risk your life for fun, every morning?"
"You could help me," Duke offers. "I could let you in on the cases I'm working on, give you a comm. You can help Izzy and Riko with planning patrol routes and monitoring alarms, if you want. But, yes, at the end of the day, you're just going to have to accept that I'm going to risk my life, every day, not just because it's the right thing to do, but because I love doing it, and don't know what else I'd do."
Jay's fists stay balled, for a second, before he takes a deep breath, and releases them. "I never told you why I joined the military, did I?"
Duke blinks. "You didn't. Honestly, was kind of weird to see you become a bootlicker, all of a sudden."
"I was undercover," Jay replies, and Duke nearly falls of the building. A corner of Jay's mouth quirks up. "Surprise. Some colleagues at the Gazette had uncovered what they thought was the start of a giant military cover-up job for corruption and human rights violations, and they needed an inside man. I'm a good actor, a great one even, and the others couldn't lie for shit. So I was basically the only choice, and well," he shrugged, "it isn't like I could say 'fuck that, I don't care how corrupt the military is or how much people suffer because of it, I feel like having my own cozy life in Gotham', you know? So I went. And even when I heard about you, and your parents, I finished the job before coming back, because I realized it was just that important."
Duke stares at Jay, his mouth hanging open, but before he can get himself together, Jay continues. "So when I saw you in that superhero get up - my first thought was oh God, not him. I hated playing hero. I hated it so much, with every fiber of my being. And my job wasn't even that dangerous, all things considered, and you're so much younger - Duke, I can't loose you, I really can't."
"I know," Duke answers. He can't say anything else. "I know."
Jay's begging when he says, "Promise me you won't die."
Duke looks away. "I can't."
It's quiet, for a minute. The city has fallen silent. The people have disappeared. The streets are empty.
Then, Jay sighs, and stands up.
"I can't stop you, can I?" he asks. He sounds resigned, and his eyes are sad.
"No," Duke replies. "You can't."
"And you won't be happy otherwise?"
"No." And even if he could honestly give a different answer, he's not entirely sure he would.
Jay closes his eyes. Takes a deep breath. "All right," he says. "All right."
The sky breaks down, piece by piece, and it eats the city as it goes, devouring it whole. The nest on the next building over disappears, and it's followed by the building.
Jay envelops him in a hug, and Duke leans his head on his shoulder.
"We'll do it together, then." Jay whispers.
And they wake up.

Trade Off - Andrew ‘Pope’ Cody x Reader (Animal Kingdom)
@wltz-bby @happyskywhale
@mandy23b - in advance please forgive this ridiculous little AU.🙈 GIF CREDIT: X
Tumblr media
Author’s Note: Look - it’s my favourite scene in the whole movie, OK? Let me have this slight AU!  But we all know in the happy universe in my head it all worked out after this right?
Also, for those unaware, yes... you can sing about stock trading! Imagine how happy I was to find fitting lyrics!
Disclaimer: AK has nothing to do with me /  I really tried to gloss over/layman's terms stock trading... I don’t know if I did a good job / Lyrics & gifs not mine.
Premise: After Baz pitches to Andrew the idea of stock trading it’s clear his friend is fairly dismissive. Baz enlists your help to follow through...
Words: 4126
Warnings: Swearing / brief mention of drugs / Slight AU
_____
Your gonna break my bank before too long I'm taking out a loan But when you turn your kind of lovin' on Honey I just can't say no, no no no no no no
Your gonna break my bank before too long I'm running out of dough But when you turn your kind of magic on Honey I just can't say no, no no no
Maybe I'll play the stock market Put some money in my pocket Ain't no telling what your gonna need next I need to steal a Sherman tank Just to break into a bank All my buddies think it's funny 'Cause I'm spending all my money On some honey like there's something to prove 'Cause for a little of your lovin' There ain't nothing much that I wouldn't do It's a business doing pleasure, a business doing pleasure with you
---
With the amount of time Andrew and yourself seemed to be spending around each other these days, you weren’t sure why one of you hadn’t taken up permanent residence in the others home. That deduction wasn’t exactly fair – he was with you to hide from the police for yet another thing he’d gone and done (that you didn’t want to know about), and he wasn’t about to leave the house you’d just pulled up at. Maybe Baz would eventually be able to persuade him that living with you was the good idea, but you weren’t sure you’d be able to do it alone. Of course without Baz you wouldn’t be here right now with all your gear – but you understood why this wasn’t a conversation that could come through Andrew. He’d never talk about it, maybe bury it in the back of his mind and forget the discussion ever happened with his friend. Baz had got home and immediately called you, to try and keep the idea on the table. By involving you Baz would create two fronts for the same goal; perhaps you’d be able to collectively persuade something out of Andrew yet – out of this house and out of this life… You weren’t about to hold your breath. But you’d take anything as a start. When you reached the front door and knocked, you were surprised for it not to be opened by your partner (or his partner in crime). Andrew usually headed you off at the sound of your engine, instead you came face to face with a teen you didn’t recognise. He also clearly had no idea who you were, by the fact that he stood there blinking with a blank expression. You took a step back and surveyed the driveway; okay, one car was missing but you doubted that absolutely everyone was out at once. You wouldn’t expect Andrew to venture out under anything but the cover of midnight with the cops probably still out there looking for him… having said that, apparently the lead up conversation had happened in a supermarket, so what did you know. “Uh,” You turned back to him, looking super awkward and not at all a part of the house he was standing in, “hey. Are the guys in?” He straightened a little, “Uhm, some of them are y-yeah, would you like me to get them? I mean I can-” He pointed back, then squinted at you, trying to recall if he had ever seen your face and if there were a name to go with it. Concluding the answer was no, he asked the question; “Uhm, who..?” “Y/N.” Your eyes flicked behind him, “Though you can also hold that thought.” “I’ll take it from here, mate.” The teen turned to Andrew, a few steps behind him up the corridor, and also who you were now staring at. “Oh, sure.” His back up against the wall already let you know what the power play was. “Hey-!” You stopped him before he left, “What’s your name?” “…Jay.” “Jay? Jay… Jay…” You pondered for a second, because Andrew had mentioned this before, “Oh! Julia’s son! Yes! It’s nice to meet you, Jay!” and with a smile on your face, to Jay it was almost startling that anyone to do with this family – Andrew in particular - would give him such a thing. “You too, Y/N.” Andrew shot him a look that seemed to suggest he forget your name in the next 3 seconds or face consequences, before turning those blue eyes on you. “What are you doing here?” You kept your reply level to his blunt question. “You just left. Which I expected, but you left some stuff. Not why I’m here, though.” You indicated to the house, “May I enter?” Andrew took a step back and nodded, beckoning you forward. You looked left and right with an affirming nod that you weren’t followed and hopped inside, arms winding around him immediately. “Oh my god, Andrew, are you okay?” “Fine.” You closed your eyes, burying your face in his shoulder, waiting patiently until he returned your embrace, “I know it’s stupid,” you mumbled, “but every time I hear sirens, I…” “Don’t. Don’t do that to yourself.” He only murmured it, hand to the back of your head, “…Why did you come?” “Oh, well-” You didn’t want to pull away but you wished to explain, moving your laptop case around, “I hear you don’t have a computer – and failing that, I do have every decent stock trading newspaper you could possibly hope for!” Andrew blinked slowly a few times, bemused by your encouraging grin, “Baz.” It wasn’t a question. “Mhm!” “You’re both crazy.” You weren’t about to let him dismiss this, and followed him into the back of the house – by the looks of it only he and Jay were in, “Wait-! I thought it was a good shout! Will you at least hear us out?” “No. It’s ridiculous.” “Andrew…” He paused and turned to your defeated tone, “Humour me.” He sighed heavily at the look on your face, “Okay. Fine…” He held his hand out for yours, and you linked your fingers with a gentle smile, it was a start. Hopefully Andrew would be receptive to the rest of the information you had to impart. ***
You slid your laptop out of its bag and powered it on, Andrew sat tentatively next to you, clearly unsure about the whole thing. You were certain that by the time you’d talked him through this, and made it so easy for him to understand what to do, with Baz’s help you could turn the tables. You didn’t think this was going to be an overnight miracle, but if it did anything at all that would be an achievement.
As you waited for your own profile to load, you opened today’s selection of newspapers to the trading pages and lay them out in front of him. Right now they looked like a bunch of funny letters with green, red or black numbers. And occasionally a confusing looking graph. It wouldn’t be long before Andrew Cody was reading these like a pro. “Woah.” Andrew’s eyes flicked from the papers to your screen, and he jabbed the number in the top right, “What is that?!” You supposed to him ‘that’ was an eye watering amount of Australian dollars. “That’s how much my portfolio is worth right now. It’ll fluctuate but it’s always somewhere around there. I always tend to go safe - but that means buying high and usually they stay high. You can buy low and have something grow exponentially, but also risk investments blowing up in your face. As you’re starting, maybe you’d like to invest in a bit of both. It’s all a guessing game Andrew, so there’s no wrong answers. If I set you up a profile and get you started, you can do it at your leisure. If you don’t want the hassle of a computer, then it’s as easy as collecting a paper, I can manage your portfolio for you. Or you can go the other way and pay someone else to do it. And if you trust them, then it’s as simple as giving them your money and they make the trades for you. But that’s maybe not so much fun if you’re looking to make a living out of this, which you certainly can. It’ll give you something to do, at least.” “Yeah, but how does that work? How do you make money?” You supposed you were happy that he had questions, and was cutting straight to it. You’d expect nothing less from this Cody. “Two ways. Your shares pay out dividends to you – i.e. a share of company profits - a few times a year, best to spread your portfolio over companies that pay out in different months to have a steadier income! Or you buy low, sell high as you can, or buy high sell even higher and make money like that. Then you keep the money or invest it, so on and so forth.” Baz had explained to you that he'd put thousands into this and was making good money and that he’d mentioned this to Andrew, met only with confusion. It was your job to untangle that.
You pointed to the number he was still staring at, “If I sell everything I have right now, I can have that in the bank, right? Instead I get paid steadily throughout the year. If you’re gonna make a living out of this,” you made sure to give him a look that would get Andrew’s stare back on you, because you meant it, “you’ll probably want to do a bit of both.” “Where am I getting the money for this, exactly?” You folded your arms, he surely had money of his own but you wanted all this to be as clean as possible, “If you’re prepared to take this seriously, I’m prepared to front you the money. I can make recommendations too if you want that. But I was gonna help you pick a few out for yourself...” “I don’t even know where to start.” Andrew’s voice strained for a second as he ran a hand through his hair, blowing out a breath. “Baby, baby...” The last thing you needed was for him to start winding up on you, you took his hand “that’s why I’m here. We do this together, slow or fast as you like, okay? Let’s see what you like the look of, alright?” “...I- I don’t know...” “Andrew.” You moved your hands to his thighs, face close to his, “This is yours, you’re not expected to be an expert overnight, but you have help now. This is a real chance for you... and I know that counts for something. You can’t want to spend the rest of your life like you have the past few months?” You didn’t want him to either, and as he turned from you again you scraped your nails through his hair, as if to tuck it back behind his ear. Andrew’s blue eyes searched your screen for an answer, hand laying on top of yours, not holding you, but still there. “Hey, maybe you and Baz can go into trading together.” You thought that might have been Baz’s idea and motivation anyway, and if Andrew had someone to do this with, in times that you weren’t around, that might help his desire to be involved. His eyes returned to yours, this look hard and piercing, like you were insane. Andrew instantly began to set you straight: “You really think this is just gonna end?” “No.” And that was the truth. You knew better. “But I’m optimistic that it would wind down and you can change.” “It’s too late for that.” “No. It isn’t. Andrew you can’t write yourself off. No one else has - we’re here and we believe in you.” Baz and yourself, your family… The people that really mattered, the people who would actually support him. This time you linked his fingers with yours, “Baby, I want a future with you... I’m scared that one day someone is going to turn up at my door and tell me you’re dead.” It was obvious how serious you were by the tone of your voice, that little waiver you weren’t holding back. “Y/N...” “Andrew, I will beg you... please just- have a go and think about it, and I just- I don’t want to lose you.” He looked back to your portfolio - as if a bunch of numbers and charts and virtual money was going to give him all the answers. But how could it? How could this be the key to the way out of the life he was living? He didn’t see it - and yet you and Baz so desperately believed in this. Andrew didn’t want to let you both down, and yet maybe he could get a kick out of proving you both wrong. Crime was the only way... but crime isn’t the only way... Heck you already had tried labouring the point that drugs wasn’t going to cut it with you. But there were track marks still in his skin, weren’t there. You couldn’t save him, but you tried so hard... you probably deserved him trying. “Okay.” His voice was quiet, but he looked back to you with a nod, “Show me.” You explained it all in as basic layman’s terms; most important to you was that he didn’t have any excuses for not being able to follow though once you left. You taught him how to read the numbers and exchange names in the paper first, green up, red down, black unchanged. That as long as he had noted what he bought them at he could always make sure to sell at profit. Then you spent a little while setting up his profile on your website and Andrew began trying to figure out where he wanted to invest the money you were saying you’d front him. You had a lot of fun watching him scrunch his face in concentration and try to reason out why he should invest in this particular thing. Some of it was way off, but you guided him - he’d get it, of that you were certain. Andrew was sharp, this was all new. You wouldn’t be surprised if later tonight you got a call: Y/N, I can’t sleep but I’ve been thinking about these investments and... You kept flicking back to your own to show him that he could start with what looked small and yet end up with something like this relatively easily, and you knew Andrew was starting to get it when he could interpret a graph without you telling him what it meant. And there was a hint of enjoyment on his face when you would smile and nod and say, “Yes exactly!”
The next time you heard footsteps, Baz was the one waltzing into the room. “Ahhh! Jay told me you two would be hiding someplace and HOLY SHIT-! Is that an investment portfolio!?!” He jogged his friend’s shoulder, “Oh, so it’s hard if I ask, but when your girlfriend pulls up you can put one together, huh!?” Andrew tipped his head, pushing Baz back, “You’re in this together, don’t give me that bullshit.” Baz cackled and hugged you, “Ah! That’s my girl-! You got him invested in you yet?!” “No, that could go wrong, very wrong. I didn’t even mention my company.” Andrew’s eyes flicked between you, causing Baz to smirk, “There you go Pope, you can get your criminal activity in there instead-! Invest and break the law! And you don’t even have to go outside to do it!” “Don’t encourage him!” You folded your arms, mouth open in disbelief - the goal of this was the complete opposite! This was Baz’s big plan, what was he doing!? “What?” “Insider trading.” You turned to Andrew, “Like, buy shares of my company and, as CIO, I tell you when you buy or sell depending on what we’re up to that will have the stock market value pushed up or down.” “Oh, you can do that?” And then at the look on your face Andrew changed track, “But it would be illegal. I get it. Can I invest in your company though?” “Knock yourself out, but I’m not telling you anything!” “This is your chance to have her never talk about work to you ever again, Pope! I’d take it!” “Shut up!” But there was even a small amused smile on Andrew’s face as Baz laughed this time around. “See all you need is to know some people within companies and you can do insider trading all over your portfolio!!” “I thought we were getting out of crime not getting you in more trouble!” “I’m trying to encourage him!” “Can’t believe I’m about to say it’s better than drugs, but we are not starting with insider trading! Oh my god-!” “Ah! But it is better than pushing drugs! Right Andrew?” Andrew looked to you, and you dare him to say it, “She thinks anything is better than drugs.” “I cannot believe you two.” You turned back to Baz, “Leave right now-! Before he latches onto this...!” “I was only kidding!” But he motioned to leave anyway, grabbing Andrew’s shoulders again, “I know she’s joking but seriously no insider trading, mate, you’ll lose her!” “I’ll lose my job too probably!” “Ah-! Yeah, definitely not-!” Baz waved, “See you later, happy investing!” Then turned back, “Oh yeah! Pope, remember to make sure that portfolio also supports your uptown girls’ lavish lifestyle!” He looked directly at you, tongue in cheek. “WHAT?!” “Gotta cost to run a Lamborghini everywhere in your designer heels and purse, darlin’.” You let Baz know you were not impressed, but that only made him laugh as he started back down the stairs. Andrew watched him go with a shake of his head; “He’s a fucking moron.” “His heart is in the right place.” You mused, turning back to your partner, “Yours is sometimes, too.”
**
Before long Andrew was leaning on his arms staring at your computer screen with a blank look on his face. You thought that meant that his interested attention on this was just about over. You made sure your movement was slow as you ran your hand up his arm and shoulder, stroking his back gently before sifting your fingers through his hair. Andrew’s eyes remained on your screen as he blinked slow, but the quiet hum you pulled from him was enough; he was content. When you moved to shut everything down, he simply nodded and let you continue to stroke his back for a few minutes; he closed his eyes, moving his head to rest across his arms and you knew Andrew felt safe, he trusted you enough to simply do that. Baz gave you a general call soon after: “Kids! We’re eating if you wanna come grab something.” Andrew was slow off the mark, wanting to stay with just you for a little while longer, but when he followed you downstairs, Baz and Jay were out of the way of the main room and kitchen. You sat yourself up on the counter as you both continued your conversation, sometimes with words and sometimes in silence but fluid, there was no break in communication, not even once. Andrew remained as close to you as possible and you ate in comfortable silence, still content to sit up on the counter. He seemed a little too into touching you today, nearly always keeping a hand on one part of you – you were prepared to call him possessive; it was surely Jay’s presence making him do this. If not you’d welcome a change up, but you highly doubted that after all this time Andrew would do such a thing. You let him if only to revel in the attention, making sure to afford him affection back, hand over his, or touching him in the same place. All very delicate – and yet kissing you was a step too far, no matter how close he got. You’d persuade one out of him eventually, you were sure… You spent a little time after that talking with Jay and Baz, glad that the other three weren’t present. Although not entirely sure why, also not eager to find out. Andrew’s participation in the conversation barely registered, attention on you the whole time. Today not hard to keep, and very much wanted. If only you could guarantee such a thing more regularly… and yet maybe if Baz and yourself managed to achieve something, and start something here, perhaps you really could. Eventually your mobile rudely interrupted you. “What? No! Stay!” Baz protested. “Much as I would love to,” you glanced to Andrew, “and I really would – David’s in town so I gotta go meet him.” “David?” “Brother.” Andrew answered for you. You noticed how it never quite got back to his family that your foster brother also happened to be a cop. Long may it remain that way. “Aw, bring him here!” “Uh. NO.” You waved that one off quickly, “It was lovely to meet you Jay! Baz, a pleasure as always!” “No worries – I’ll call you later this week, yeah?” “You may.” You gave him a wink, as if he needed your permission, and collected your bag before Andrew walked you to the door. “If you need me to get you a computer-” He made a sound of discontent, “Let’s just- see how it goes. Okay?” “Alright, but I’m here for you, you know that, right?” “Of course I do.” He gave a nod, “I said I’d try. I’m not breaking a promise to you.” Try was a big word, Andrew was always trying for you… You just wanted something to stick now. You prayed it would be this. His hand remained in yours until you got to the outside door, where you swivelled back to him, gathering his other hand. “Thank you, for hearing us out on this.” “Save that for more than day one.” “But there’s a day one!” You beamed, “That already means more to me than you can imagine.” Andrew gave a nonchalant shrug, but he could imagine, quite clearly. You pulled yourself into him, brushing your lips gently to his. As he wasn’t being so generous with his kisses today, you were content to leave it as just that. Instead Andrew let your hands go and locked his arms behind your shoulders; keeping you against his lips, Andrew’s kiss became fierce. Oh, you’ll kiss me like this now your nephew isn’t in sight, huh?! But you wanted it; pushing your body up against his you wound your arms around him, fingers tangling back in his hair as he coaxed a gentle groan from you. Of course that was what Andrew wanted, by the way he smirked into the kiss. He pulled back, leaving you a little wide eyed and whiney, automatically craving more than that – and trying to catch your breath without panting too hard. By the way his eyes were studying your face (and liking what he saw), Andrew was clearly going to leave it there and took a step back as if to prove it. “Will I see you later?” It took a moment for what he’d said to register, “Uh, I… We’re having dinner, but as far as I know he’s driving back. Do you want me back… here?” “Call me when you’re done. I’ll see where I’m at.” “O-Okay…” Your head was still swimming from the kiss, and he shook his head slowly at you, granting you a single chaste one for balance, and as a mercy. You almost verbally thanked him. You took Andrew’s hand back in yours to walk those final two steps out of the house and the door, before turning to say your final goodbyes. Probably not for the day, maybe you’d get to see him later on. Hopefully he’d make good on that kiss – there’s no way Andrew didn’t know you didn’t want to leave him now. As you walked towards your car he couldn’t resist calling after you: “Don’t forget to keep me up to date on what you’re doing before you report to the street!” You couldn’t help but burst out laughing as you slid into your car, “Hell no, Andrew Cody! We aren’t doing that!” As you buckled up and started your engine he strolled over, so you wound your window down, “What?” He leant on your car door, “I did want to thank you for coming up. On account of everything else you do. Take care of yourself.” You rubbed his hands affectionately with a small smile, “You don’t have to thank me verbally.” Evidence, that’s what you really wanted. “I will, make sure you do too. No insider trading! I’m serious!” “No promises. Say hi to David.” You rolled your eyes, “Yeah, he’s exactly the kind of person who’d pick you up on it… Stay safe, at least until I call you again.” Andrew gave a nod, but it wouldn’t surprise you if his fingers were crossed behind his back as he stepped away from your car, hand raised. You waved back, taking a deep breath. One step at a time… You could do this, the three of you could do this if you worked together… It would be worth it; the road might be long but the destination was worth getting to. If Andrew could see that. He will, one day he will… You smiled as you pulled from the curb, you had faith, you believed in him. You had a future. There was nothing else worth believing in.

I am not the only traveler
Who has not repaid his debt
Brock was sitting on the floor, he saw the bottle in front of him, and there were also the photos, some of which were taken at your wedding, many of your dates, others of special moments in your relationship.
He knew that at the time he should not get drunk, he had another obligation that needed him, but it was very difficult to continue with that pain.
It hurts so badly, he didn't know how he was going to get over it, he didn't feel able to continue, he was very angry because everything changed, the plans that you had now made no sense.
It supposed you will be old together, you were going to have several children and they would see they grow up, but Werner von Strucker came to ruin all the plans, even though they had captured him, it wasn't enough, he wanted revenge, he needed to make he pays for destroying his family, but his teammates wouldn't let him, they claimed he would pay, however, they didn't understand what you meant to him. , nothing would be enough to make up for what had taken away from him.
I've been searching for a trail to follow again Take me back to the night we met
He could remember in great detail how you knew each other, both had entered as recruits for S.H.I.E.L.D.
You used to be away from the rest of the recruits, almost always alone, you seemed very shy, he used to always be chatting with one of his teammates.
That's precisely what caught Brock's eye on you, he didn't understand why someone as beautiful as you wouldn't want to draw attention.
He felt lucky when he touched them on the same team in the first practice.
“Y/N Y/L/N,” you introduced yourself by extending your hand.
"Brock Rumlow," he replied by holding your hand.
You were a great team, you always gave the best results.
The first time he asked you for a date, he'd never felt so nervous before, for a moment he thought you were going to turn him down, he walked into the office you were working on to invite you in.
"Do you want to go to the fair?” He invited you.
"With you?” You asked distractedly.
“Yes... Well... forget it, never mind,” he retracted.
You blinked a little, you finally understood what Brock had asked you.
"I'd love to, as long as it's just you and me," you answered.
He smiled a little, the nerves were gone.
"Only you and me, Saturday at seven o'clock, I pick you, okay?”
"Perfect.”
And then I can tell myself What the hell I'm supposed to do
He looked up a little more, in a chair, was the first stuffed animal he had given you, the face you had put in made it worthwhile, it had been a successful first date.
"Do you want some of those stuffed animals?" he asked when you walked past one of the stands.
"Do you know how to play it? I'm too bad for those games," you said.
You stopped in front of the post and paid.
"Which stuffed animal do you want?" he questioned.
"That dog," you pointed out.
Never before had he felt so pressured to win a prize, he played and won it, he immediately gave it to you, you looked like a little girl.
"Thank you, you're very skillful," you thanked him.
You kissed him, you barely grazed his lips, but that was enough for him.
And then I can tell myself Not to ride along with you
Your kisses, he was going to miss them, your body, your caresses, everything from you.
He needed to know if you two were in a relationship to know how to behave, if it was just an adventure, would set aside your feelings.
"So what are we?” He asked.
"Aren't we in a relationship? I thought that...”
"We've never talked about it before..."Then I have to assume we're nothing or we can be in a relationship if that's what you want,” you figured.
He kissed you.
I had all and then most of you Some and now none of you Take me back to the night we met
He felt it was all his fault what happened, he must have insisted that you stay at the Compound with Wanda that day, if he could return the time, he would prevent you from going on a mission.
You were lying in bed after making love, you had your face hidden in his chest, while he hugged you with one arm and with the other hand caressed your hair.
"Marry me," he said suddenly.
"Hmm?”
You raised your face, you weren't sure what you heard.
"I know it's not the most romantic way, but I want to spend the rest of my life with you," he continued.
You smiled, you passed a finger over his chest.
"Are you sure? I can be very unbearable," you answered.
“If you could feel what I feel when you walk into the room, everything about ‘us’ would change.”
You bit your lip, you knew he couldn't stand the intrigue.
"I don't think you're very convinced.”
"I am more than ever, do you want to be my wife?" he asked again.
"Yes, but only if you give me my engagement ring," you answered, laughing.
"I'll buy you the one you like the most," he promised.
He kissed you and you made love again.
I don't know what I'm supposed to do Haunted by the ghost of you Oh, take me back to the night we met
He stroked his wedding ring with one finger, what was he gonna do now?
He saw your wedding photo, it was one of the happiest days of his life when he started thinking that he should do things right.
He took the picture, for him, you had been the most beautiful bride in the world in that dress.
Sometimes you used to dance to the song that had been your waltz at your wedding.
You were married for four months when he decided to tell you the truth.
"I have something to confess to you," he said out of nowhere.
You looked at him with doubt, even though you kept muddying the jam on the bread you were having for breakfast.
"Are you cheat on me?" you questioned trying to stay calm.
"What? No! I couldn't do that to you.”
"Ah... then it can't be worse,” you answered calmer.
 "I'm HYDRA," he finally said.
You dropped the bread out of your hand.
 "What? Oh... Brock...”
What were you supposed to do? You never suspected he was the enemy.
"If you ask me I'm going to confess everything to Fury, I don't want to lose you, first listen to me, there's a good reason for this...
You had heard and supported it, in the end as promised he confessed everything to Fury and even helped dismantle the organization enemies, yet many enemies had been gained.
When the night was full of terrors And your eyes were filled with tears
When you announced that you were pregnant, he immediately prevented her from going on more missions, he didn't plan on taking any chances, finally, he was having the family, he had always wanted.
One night you got up when you heard noises, they came from what would be the baby's room, when you walked in you saw Brock opening boxes with the furniture that would be in the room.
"Brock, isn't it very fast yet, I mean, I'm only three months old," you asked.
He turned to see you, he didn't think he was making so much noise.
"Everything must be ready by the time the baby gets here," he replied.
And when the little girl was born, he didn't care if they saw him crying, it was promised that he would protect his daughter from any danger.
Tears fell again when he remembers when the doctors told him that you were dead.
When you had not touched me yet Oh, take me back to the night we met
 “Brock…”
It hurts a lot, he crouched down to check your wounds.
“Y/N... wait... help is on the way," he said.
"I don't think...”
”Shh... everything will be fine, they're on their way," he repeated.
He was trying to stop the blood loss, but you'd already lost too much.
"I love you, tell our daughter that I love her too, please take care of her, take care of her, please, I’m sorry….”
He tried to keep you from talking to keep you from running out of energy.
The wait in the hospital had become eternal, as soon as he saw the doctor immediately rose.
"I'm sorry, they didn't make it," they informed him.
"Did they make it?" he asked.
The information was like a bucket of cold water.
I had all and then most of you Some and now none of you Take me back to the night we met
You were three weeks pregnant, he couldn't help wondering why you hadn't told him yet, what he didn't know was that you were going to tell him the night that you came back from the mission.
He wiped away tears when he heard the door open.
"Daddy?" the little girl came into the room.
"Hey princess," he replied by opening his arms to get him closer.
The girl ran to hug him.
"Sorry, she got away," Wanda apologized coming in.
Brock beckoned her that he was fine.
"Mommy doesn't love me anymore?” The little girl suddenly asked.
"What? Why do you say that?” Brock questioned.
He had asked not to tell him anything that had happened, he wanted to explain it to him himself.
"She didn't come back," she replied.
"Your mommy loves you, do you remember Lucky?”
"Mom's dog? Yes, he liked me to give him my candies.”
"Mom and Lucky are together," Brock explained.
"In heaven?”
"Yes, from there they're going to take care of us," he continued.
"Why didn't she say goodbye? We're not going to the park on Saturday anymore?" the girls asked distraughtly.
Brock sighed, it was harder than he had thought, and he had been promised that all three would go on the weekend.
"In a little while we'll say goodbye to your mommy, don't worry, you and I are going to the park," he told her.
He got up and carried her, it was time to go to your funeral, it was going to be very difficult, he kept feeling that his world was collapsed, he would give everything to go back to the day he met you and avoid making all the mistakes, he would be able to do anything as long as you were alive.
However, he couldn't let himself be beaten, his daughter needed him.
I don't know what I'm supposed to do Haunted by the ghost of you Take me back to the night we met

A Man On Fire - Chapter 68
All night he hadn't left her side, which was fun at one point, because he was a real party animal, but on the other hand the conversation with Jared hadn't left her head for one second, they both knew it wasn't the time nor the place to discuss matters further. What time was it? 3AM and where was Jared? She hadn't seen him around for a while, probably already scoring new pussy, ugh no don't go there. “Another drink?” Nathan put his hands on her hips, something he had been doing all night, trying to get as close to her as possible, “oh no, I'm full up..have you seen Jared?” she looked around the room, “nope, then again he's already an older man, he can't keep up any longer” Nathan grinned at her, squeezing her flesh more tightly, just surrender and give yourself to me, woman! You know you want to. Harper pulled his hands away “don't say that, he's not old, trust me, I'm speaking from experience here” and turned to go, “wait, where are you going?” he tried to stop her “I'm going to look for him”. Charles..where was he? Oh there “Charles, have you seen Jared?” she gave him a quizzical frown, “He's gone..he left about an hour or so ago” Charles didn't seem too amused, “oh, I see..” she felt a bit scrutinized when he just stared at her with an empty look in his eyes. Gone where? His hotel of course, she ran to the cloackroom to get her coat and immediately headed for the exit, stilettos in the snow shuffled to the curb to hail a cab, he wanted to talk? Well she was ready and he'd better still be up. Half an our later she got out of the cab and ran inside the hotel, up to his room, she knocked and knocked but there was no answer, what the? She held her ear to the door, what did she expect to hear, loud snoring? He didn't snore and it was the middle of the night after all, or some heavy fucking noises? blegghhh no!!. Disappointed she walked to the elevator again and let it take her down with a heavy heart, maybe check reception “excuse me, has the resident in room 524 come back yet? I'm his..light designer” she couldn't think of anything else to not be told to take a hike “and I can't reach him on his mobile either”. To her surprise the guy quickly glanced at his computer “He checked out about an hour ago” what? He'd left? Left NY? What else could he have done? Airport..maybe he was still at the airport, the first flight left when? The only thing she could do was go out and check.
Two hours later she put the key in to open the door of her apartment, deep inside she had hoped she would find him here so her heart dropped when she found her apartment cold and empty. With a deep sigh she put on the heating and walked up to the huge window to see the sun come up above New York,  how can it be that you hurt me so much and now that you actually decided for yourself to leave I miss you so much?

Hey Jay,
So you decided to leave NY, huh? And I can hope that it wasn't because of me all I want but when someone leaves like a thief in the night, I just cannot help thinking it actually is because of me.
I will respect your need for distance/privacy/silence (pick a reason), I always did and always will, but I just wanted to tell how much I enjoyed your company the last couple of days.
I wanted to thank you for the party and more specifically for the Dior bag, you really went over the top there and I don't feel comfortable even accepting it..if you want I can have it fed-exed back to you, hope you kept the receipt.
Anyway, it's really ridiculous but I guess I just needed to have that talk with you after all..too little too late right?
Hope you're safe wherever you are without a snowflake in sight.
Coco
Jared had just landed in sunny LA, the contrast just couldn't be any bigger with where he came from, and he welcomed the clear blue skies, maybe they would be able to clear the clouds from his head. The arrival of her mail vibrated him back to life, his hands shaking when he read it, oh god..of course it's because of you that I left.

Harper,
Of course I left because of you, let's be honest here, I came because of Charles's Christmas party but I stayed because of you, and not the snow, I could be snowed in anywhere on this planet, as long as I'm with you, it's all good.
I never keep receipts, because a gift should never be returned, do with the handbag what you will, I bought it for you, end of story. Oh and btw is it ever too late? In our case that's debatable, because from what you said last night, you will never be able to forgive me, should you? I don't know about that either.
If anything was clear, it's the fact that you're moving on, and can I blame you? No! Can I blame myself for it? Yes! So, you do what you feel you have to do, I just hope it will give you clarity and closure..on us/on the things that I did (pick a reason as well).
Anyway, how's your wrist? Didn't hurt it too much at dancing? And how's Nathan? You two looked really chummy, is he a better lover than I am?
Jared
Fuck why did I write that last part? Why the hell not? She wants me to be open and honest, well I guess I am. I'm moving on too, it is what it is? Love is so ridiculously overrated, it's just lust with her, like it is with everyone else? Right? Yep! Convincing himself of that was harder than it seemed, because the words of her mail kept bouncing through his head all day long.
She needed to rest up a bit before she started painting, and she so didn't look forward to meeting Charles, that disappointed look in his eyes last night was haunting her, but her head hadn't touched her pillow yet when his reply beeped its' arrival. His words stung, oh he was upset and angry all right, sarcasm was his weapon and he wielded it like a champion.

Jared,
You're not playing fair,  I told you how you nearly broke me when you did what you did, am I not allowed to move on? Do you want me to keep suffering? Does that amuse you while you just get on with your life? Not that it's any of your business but Nathan is a friend so far, not a lover, we haven't even kissed yet, he's a distraction right now, but I guess you know all about those, don't you?
Bye Jared, I don't think there's any point discussing this any further, maybe it's best if we made a clean break and stayed out of each other's lives.
Harper
Oh yeah, that's really convenient isn't it? Walk away from the real trouble, that is so like you, but not this time Harper, oh no, you won't get rid of me that easily, I'll keep you on your toes, that's for sure. I'll keep you on your toes, don't you worry, even long distance, but you're mine and that's how I intend to keep it.

Subject: Re: re: re: First so close, now so far removed?
Harper,
Let's go back to your original mail, you said you needed to have that talk after all, and now you're saying there's no point discussing it? Stop being so fickle, either you do or you don't and I think I know you enough to say that you do want to keep talking? I'm definitely up for it, I already was the last couple of days. I'm gonna be honest here, I can never have a clean break with you, I let you come too close for that and I think I can say the same for you, you and I both know that Nathan isn't gonna cut the cake, he's just some distraction, if it was only to get revenge then you would've let him get inside your panties already.
So, we'll leave it for now, I hate arguing by mail and if you're ready to talk on a more adult level, I'm right here, ok?
Jared
Fuck you, Jared, you stupid, arrogant fucker, fuck you! She growled as she jumped out of bed again, painting on adrenalin is never a bad idea, just get it out of your system and forget that stupid jerk. Ok so maybe he underestimated her, somehow he thought she was gonna write back but nothing more from her all day, he'd definitely pissed her off, another night full of doubt and wondering what she was doing, no way, ok call her..no answer, for fucks sakes Harper I'm not gonna do this with you again. Why do you have your heart set on ripping mine to pieces? I'm not asking you to forget I'm just asking to forgive, we were, no are, so good together so let's move on, it's that simple, forget about that irrelevant little fucker who's bending over backwards to get you in his bed, he isn't worth your time, the real deal is right here in LA.

Mirror Mirror on the Wall
Part 14
First  -  Previous  -  Next
After dressing up in suitably semi casual prep clothing, you and your friends went to Family Day. You all had arrived just as Ben and the others finished up their song, so the crowd was still packed together. Evie, Jay, and Carlos held politely move people aside so you and Mal could get through to a decently open area, though going between the tables required some maneuvering. Managing your ways over to the snack table, you watched as Mal grabbed a strawberry curiously and bit into it. She practically melted at the taste and you smirked a little, "Wow Mal... It looks like you want to marry that strawberry." You teased her. She moaned in delight, "I do. Sadly, he won't make it to the wedding." "Gives a whole new meaning to the term black widow." Evie teased with you. Mal playfully scoffed and rolled her eyes, sending the three of you into quiet laughter. Evie noticed something out of the corner of her eye and saw Ben waving to you. "(Y/n). Ben is trying to get your attention." She told you. You turned around and smiled at him, waving and giving Evie a small thank you.
Walking up the path to the gazebo Ben and his parents were taking a picture at, Ben walked down and held out a hand to you. "(Y/n)! (Y/n), I want to introduce you to my parents." Ben said, slipping his arm carefully around your shoulders as to not hit your wings. He could feel your wing's warmth as it hovered around him protectively. Turning the two of you to face his parents, he smiles at them and introduces you. "This is (Y/n), from the island. My girlfriend." Belle didn't look too pleased and it caused your wings to shake with nervousness as she tried to be polite. "Hi!" Belle greeted, obviously having not expected you. You gave her a shaky smile, "Hi..." King Adam waved awkwardly at you before Ben spoke up. "I was thinking maybe she could join us for lunch," Ben said, hoping for a yes. "Of... Course. A-Any friend of Ben's...?" King Adam asked. "Oh, I came with my friends and my sister." You told them politely. "Well, you should invite them." Belle looked even more uncomfortable and Adam reluctantly agreed. "Because the more the merrier!" Belle added with a shaky laugh.
"Oh, okay thank you. I'll go get them." You were about to pull away and go to your friends when King Adam spoke up. "Uh, how about a game of croquet before lunch?" He offered. Ben grinned, "You're on." He fist-bumped his dad before turning and waving at his parents and going off to get the others with you. "Have you ever played before?" Ben asked quietly. "No." You told him in a panic. You didn't want to embarrass yourself or Ben in front of his parents. Ben chuckled, "Don't worry, I'll teach you." Once the game as set up and your friends informed, King Adam, Queen Belle, you, and Ben were playing a game. The two parents calmed down a little as they watched Ben teach you how to play and you both were laughing and playing around as you kept missing. After a bit, though, you were able to get the hang of it and Ben went to go take his turn. You were waiting and watching in hopes to learn by observing when you felt a woman approach you.
"Hello there." The woman greeted pleasantly. You were relaxed and at peace in the sun and since there weren't a lot of people on the field as to not block the game, so you responded in kind, "Hi." You gave the woman a smile. She stood next to you and you took care in making sure your wings were away from her, "Now, have we met?" The woman asked, crossing her arms but staying pleasant. "Um, no, I don't think so. I'm a transfer student." You told her gently. She nodded in acceptance before Audrey walked over and they spoke, surprising you at the woman's identity. "Grammy?" You echoed, shocked. Audrey's smile fell into a scowl towards you, "Sleeping Beauty's mother?" She told you before rolling her eyes. "Come on Grammy. You shouldn't be talking to her unless you want to fall into another thousand-year sleep." You were more shocked at the incorrect information than Audrey's biting tone. 'Thousand-year sleep? They never went to sleep... Aurora did for a day before Mother woke her up. What is going on?' You thought to yourself in confusion before Queen Leah gasped in horror and backed up, drawing people's attention.
"YOU!? H-How are you here? And how have you stayed so young?" Queen Leah asked, looking over you. You opened your mouth to correct her when Ben came over, holding your shoulders and pulling you to his wide protectively. "Queen Leah, it's okay. Maleficent is still on the island. This is her daughter (Y/n)." Ben introduced, trying to reassure the old woman. You felt irritation growing in your chest and your friends could tell you were agitated as they came over. "Don't you remember my proclamation to give the new generation a chance?" "A chance to what, Ben. Destroy us?" Queen Leah asked as if she were scolding a child. Your stomach felt sour and Ben felt you bristle in his arms. Queen Leah continued to speak, and Headmistress Fairy Godmother was trying to soothe her. "Come on, you remember. The poison apples. And the spells?" Queen Leah spoke to the King and Queen who only dropped their heads. "Spells..." Queen Leah's voice had venom dripping from it as she looked at you. "My daughter had to be raised by fairies because of your mother's curse. So, her first words, her first steps... I missed it all!" Queen Leah yelled accusingly at you, making you want to vomit. She crossed her arms and turned to Fairy Godmother, "You mustn't trust her." She whispered to the Headmistress.
You could feel your face heat up as you felt rage engulf your body. Ben looked down at you in concern as Mal came and took your hand, feeling just as upset as you were. Through gritted teeth, you opened your mouth to retaliate when Chad stepped in front of you, "Go away. Stay away from her." He said, standing in front of Queen Leah. "Don't do this Chad." Ben stood up for you. "What? They were raised by their parents, Ben. What do you think villains teach their kids? Huh? Kindness? Fair play? No way, okay? You stole another girl's boyfriend." Chad glared at you accusingly. "Hey, hey!" Ben stepped up, giving Chad a warning look as he moved on. "You enjoy hurting people." Chad pointed at Jay. "And you... You're nothing but a gold digger and a cheat." Chad spat to Evie. Your resolve snapped and you pushed away from Ben, who stumbled back as your wings also forced him back. You glared at Chad, your eyes glowing amber and making him shrink back. "THAT IS ENOUGH!" Your voice bellowed out it's command before quieting once more, though still easily heard by the onlookers around who gasped and backed away.
You turned to Queen Leah, growling, "First of all, let's get a few things straight. My MOTHER only cursed your daughter because your husband chopped off her wings to become king!" You hissed bitterly at the woman. "After her curse, she was content to sit back and watch what happened. You could have kept your daughter in your stupid castle the ENTIRE TIME AND ACTUALLY RAISE HER, but you didn't! So that is your own fault! And those fairies that took care of your daughter almost killed her multiple ways because they were INCOMPETENT!" You yelled furiously at her before counting down everything you could remember from your mother's stories. "Starvation because they tried to feed a baby raw carrots and radishes pulled directly out of the ground. Being killed by wild animals by forgetting her outside! FALLING OFF A CLIFF A FEW FEET AWAY FROM THEM! And you never fell into a thousand-year sleep! The curse was only against Aurora and she was asleep for less than a DAY!" You hissed at the Queen before turning to Chad.
"Now that is settled, let's move onto your accusations." You bit at him, stepping forward and watching Chad scramble back. "Jay has never once enjoyed hurting people in his life! He used to because that is how you survive on the Isle!" You snarled at him; your eyes glowing red as they had been slowly changing over time. "Evie never cheated on any test, exam, or slip of homework. The only time she has ever not known the answer and got it correct before is in since class when Mr. Delay decided to mock her by asking her a question on material that hadn't been covered in class yet." You remembered something and grinned cruelly. "Oh, and I remember something else too! Isn't Headmistress Fairy Godmother investigating you and Mr. Delay on charges of theft of a priceless family heirloom? Evie's priceless family heirloom that you stole after she wouldn't do your homework for you?" You asked, tilting your head and laughing bitterly as his face paled.
"That's what I thought. And lastly, I am only going to say this once, so you better listen. Ben and I are dating now. I didn't steal another girl's boyfriend. And for the record, I had only been here for about two weeks and I could already see that Audrey was treating Ben like he was her property and her right to own." You glared at Chad and making Ben's parents gasp. Huffing after all of that, you walked back to your awaiting friends and shook your head. Laughing bitterly once again, you finished, "You know what...? For people who are supposed to be so nice... And so good... You people are worse than your so-called villains." And with that, you left with Evie and Mal trying to console you as you cried and let all the stress of the day out. Jay and Carlos shot another glare back to Chad and the others before following swiftly after you.
Lunchtime later that day was silent as your tears had dried and you were consoled. Jay and Evie thanked you for sticking up for them and Mal and Carlos told you that you were completely in the right, defending yourself. Sitting at the lunch table, you could see Ben walking up to you five. "Hey, guys. How is everyone?" He asked, receiving silence once again. The day had put a damper on all your spirits. "Yeah...? Hey, listen. Forget about it. Alright?" Ben told you all, going to stand behind you and carefully doing where he thought your wings would be. Putting his hands on your shoulders in an attempt to comfort you, he continued, "Forget about it. Alright? It was nothing. Let it go. Tomorrow after the coronation everything will be okay." Ben promised before leaning down as no one had looked at him. He whispered in your ear, "I've got to go..." And then he squeezed your shoulders and walked off. You and Mal shared a look, not appreciating Ben's words. But he was right. Everything would be better after the coronation.
Doug, noticing the prince was gone came up to the table. "Listen Evie, I want to talk about earlier today, I just--" "Doug!" Chad called. Doug ignored him and looked back to Evie, who was looking up at him hopefully. "Doug!" Chad called again, giving the boy a look. "What!?" Doug asked before having a staring match with Chad and losing. "I'm sorry..." Doug mumbled to Evie before sitting at the next table with Chad. Evie pushed her tray away, losing her appetite. Audrey walked behind you with Jane, coming very close to the backs of your wings. "How long does she think that's gonna last?" Audrey asked Jane. "(Y/n)'s just the bad girl infatuation." She smirked. "Yeah, I mean... It's not like he's ever going to make a villain a Queen." Jane sneered, leaning closer to you before getting whipped in the face by your invisible wings. Yes. You hit her with them. She stumbled back and almost fell on the table form the force before you looked over your shoulder at Audrey, your eyes glowing amber once again.
You had a cruel and amused smirk as you looked at her, "It would almost sound like you are bitter that I took away your ticket to the crown of Auradon." You simpered at the girl. Audrey gasped, "How dare you! I--" "You know, after what I pointed out today... About your obvious use of Ben as if he were some little toy or a piece of property, I highly doubt that your little trick is going to work on anyone ever again. They might not believe me now, but it will sit in the back of their minds. And the next time they see it, they will know instantly what you are trying to do." You tittered in amusement. "What do you know? You're just the nothing daughter of a no-good villain!" Audrey hissed at you. You laughed and turned more towards Audrey as Mal got ready to undo Jane's hair spell. "You know Audrey... You're talking a lot of shit for someone within spelling distance."
She didn't look convinced and you stood up, turning around without hitting her. "Do you think I'm joking?" You asked, holding up a hand of your sparkling amber magic. Mal stood up and called her own green magic, "Reverse." She commanded it, flicking her hand. Jane's hair sparked with Mal's magic for a moment before turning back to how it used to be. Audrey, realizing that yes, she was within spelling distance, ran away with the other preps You turned to the others and smiled, noticing Evie and Carlos had stood up as well. "I'm really looking forward to tomorrow." You and Mal spoke together, giving each other an amused look before walking off with your friends behind you. Any thoughts of staying in Auradon were left at the abandoned table.

Oh my god, it’s a Danplan Isekai au
Maybe a new fic? A new short series? I don’t know, so have a preview instead and I’ll let you guys decide and my hyperfixation as well lol.
Warning: Mention of a character death.
“Hey, wake up!” A voice yelled.
Something hard hit his head. Jay yelps and grabs his head to numb it. Why did they do that? Is it time for class?
He hissed, “gee, thanks for waking me up.” Jay opens his eyes a little. Now, it’s widely opened. He stands up with some struggle. “Who are you?” He questioned in resentment and pointed at him.
It’s a man wearing some kind of yoga. He has a crown of leaves and jewels resting on his green hair. In his hand, a staff with a gem shaped like a leaf. It glows throughout the darkness that surrounds them.
The man cleared his throat, “finally you're wake.” He grinned. With a wave of his staff. A desk and two chairs appeared. He sits down. “Take a seat, you look like you got stabbed.”
Jay cautiously takes a seat. “What do you mean?”
“Well, how do I say this?” He hummed. “I could just say you’re dead-”
“I’m dead?!” Why Jay? Why him of all places. Did he got murdered by one of his friends? Sure, he is a sociopath, but still.
“Hey, it’s not a bad thing!” The man avoid Jay’s glare and clears his throat. “What I mean is that you get reincarnated!” Party poppers went off behind his head. “That’s right! Forget your wasteful, miserable life into a brand new life!  Reborn a new person! Some of your memories are detached, but who needs those?”
A paper appeared on the desk. The green haired man slides to the paper to Jay. When Jay picks up the paper. There were some user agreement and terms of service, etc. Memories erasing, but comes back as a deja vu. Appearance changes, abilities, and genetics. There are two ways to be reincarnated.
Reborn as a baby or be someone else in an alternative universe.
“Just sign it here, and you’ll be set for life.” The man pointed at the paper.
Relieve as a new person? That sounds like a good idea. Jay did kinda have a boring life, so who knows? Reborn as the mafia’s son. Reborn as a girl? Heck, even a president. It could be exciting like that time when he went to Disneyland with his… Okay, now he’s rethinking about it.
“Is there a possible way to come back from the dead?” Jay asked.
“I mean, yeah, but that’s kinda against the law.” The man shrugged, “if you worry about them. They'll be fine. I mean they’re gonna be filed with grief and be really sad. They lost their boyfriend. Who knows each other for a couple of years..” He sighed. “Yeah, I see your point. I suppose there’s a way.”
“Tell me.” Anything to be with them.
“Okay, you’ll be reincarnated, but you have a quest in that world. There’s a special item in a hidden temple called the Goddess’ Tear. It can only grant one wish, and you’ll be sent back to the real world.” He said with a grin. “I swear to myself.”
This sounds like a Isekai anime, but this could be the only way. Jay  has no choice when it comes to him being dead.
“Deal.” Jay confirmed.
“Okay, now stand still and pretend there isn’t any pain.”
“What?”
~
Great, more headaches. Why does he hit him again? It’s unnecessary. He could snap his fingers and Jay stands there. Seeing the open world of nature and people. Not in bed with a wet cloth on his forehead. Wait, hold on. He opens his eyes a little and check his surroundings.
A young man with light gray hair tied up in a ponytail. He wears a white robe that has some kind of a religious symbol engraved. Is he a priest or a doctor? Hope he is either of those because he notice that Jay is awake.
“Good morning!” The young man greeted. “I hope you’re feeling better.” He takes the wet rag from Jay’s forehead and sets it down on the nightstand.
“What happened?” Jay asked.
“While I was looking for herbs, I find you passed out on the ground and I got worried sick. So, I brought you here and healed you up.” He nervously laughed, “if you don’t mind that is.”
Jay’s a bit surprised that a stranger took care of him. Then he looks the type to be kind to others even if they’re evil. Although, he does look familiar to him. Never mind. At least Jay’s alive and didn’t get attacked by bears.
“Oh! I forgot to introduce myself. My name is Hosuh.” Hosuh smiled, “what’s your name?” He reached out his hand.
“Jay.” He shakes hands with him and smirked. “It’s a good thing I should know my saver’s cute name.” He brings Hosuh’s hand to his lips and gives it a kiss.  Why is he flirting with him? For god’s sake, he’s dating them! However, he is cute though, but still.
Hosuh’s cheeks has been covered. He let himself free from Jay’s hand.. “O-oh yes, or that would be rude.” He cleared his throat. “If you don’t mind me asking. What were you doing out there?”
Oh, you know. A God with stupid green hair knock him out to be reincarnated in another world - where he supposed to find the Goddess’ Tear, so he can go back to them. The good Isekai stuff. “I’m on a quest to find the Goddess’ Tear to fulfil someone’s wish.” He answered.
“Oh goodness.” Hosuh sighed. “Why would you hurt yourself like that? I healed so many adventurers who went on the same quest. It’s not worth it for you.”
Oh great, Jay probably has rivals. ”Their wish isn’t like that.”
“Then what is it?” He narrowed his eyes at him.
“Their wish is to get rid of my curse.” Jay explained, you know, like a liar. “But yeah it’s stupid for a wish. I told them it’s not worth it because I was born like this.”
“What’s your curse?”
“Well-” A loud thud on his brain made waves of pain throughout his body. Jay holds his head, but no matter how he tries to numb it. The pain won’t stop. His eyes are shut tight and teeth are grinding. There’s something growing underneath his skin. It wants to get out, but it hurts. So, he holds his hands together instead, but it still hurts.
Man, humans should be careful what they say.
Was that…
Yep, I’m in your conscious now! As in, I get to help you with not murdering people! Of course nobody’s going to believe you if you told the truth. So, I decided to help with your little lie.
What did he do? Whatever he did, the pain stops. Jay had to open his eyes. His hand, but it’s a claw. A dragon’s claw? It has yellow scales that shine with some orange mixed with it. Is this what he meant by helping out the curse? Is he going to turn into a monster? He gets to murder people and kill people with this, holy (REDACTED).
A dragon if you want to be specific. You have three months before the curse devours you. But don’t worry, once you hold the Goddess’ Tear, it will heal your curse right away and you still get to wish back home. What do you think about it?
He rather be a slime than a dragon.
“I don’t have to explain since I get to demonstrate it to you.” Jay nervously chuckled. Poor Hosuh, he’s already afraid of him. As much Jay wants some help, he’s fine being alone. Even though his heart is about to come off in two pieces.
Hosuh is still silent, he looks at the hand then back at Jay. He breathes in, “I’ll come along with you.” Huh?
“Are you sure?”
“Yes! I mean yes. I see why your friend cares about you. Plus it’s a terrible curse to have.” Hosuh frowned. “Turn into a monster and then lose your memories forever.” Then he grabbed Jay’s hands in a firm grip. “So, that’s why I’m coming with you.” He smiled reassuringly.
-
Well, that was definitely more than 500 words whoops. Also, a lot of dialogue. I’ll have to fix that in the future. Let me know if you enjoy!
Anyways, thank you for reading and so, good luck and goodbye!

To Be Happy - Optional Epilogue
By: SassyShoulderAngel319
Fandom/Character(s): DC, BatFam, SuperFam - Jason Todd/Red Hood & Conner Kent/Kon-El/Superboy
Rating: PG-11/T-
Original Idea: Part 1 Summer, Part 2 Autumn, Part 3 Winter, Part 4 Spring, Part 5 Summer (Fin)
Notes: (Masterlist)(By Character)(About Me) @welovegroot practically begged me to let Starbeam end up with Jason in the end because apparently the relationship drama of the rest of this story wasn’t enough. XD If you liked the ending as it was, you don’t have to consider this “canon.” Also this one is long so there’s a Keep Reading option.
^^^^^
November 14, 4:27PM
Jason put his hand to his side. His glove came away bloody. He swore under his breath. “That's more serious than I thought,” he grumbled. He looked up through blurring vision. Where even was he? Where had the mission spat him out?
Was that...? Was that Mt. Justice?
He stumbled toward the looming mountain, blinking hard and losing consciousness. Before he could drop, he pressed the comm-link on the side of his helmet. “Call Starbeam,” he ordered the voice command AI.
“Calling Starbeam...” It rang for a few moments.
“Hello?”
Oh Hera. It was her.
“Stars,” he rasped. “I... I need your help. I'm close to the mountain. I... I'm losing a lot of blood.”
“Oh my gosh. Jason?!”
“That's me,” he mumbled.
“Oh crap. I'll be right out. Stay on the line. I'll have Robin trace the call. Hold on Jason. I'll be right there!”
“Stars... I still... love you...”
Jason listed forward and fell face-first onto the pavement.
^^^^^
November 16, 8:41AM
He came to in an unfamiliar place. Not the mountain. A small apartment. His wound was bandaged, and the top half of his suit was draped over a nearby armchair, along with his leather jacket and helmet. He felt better. More rested than he’d been in a while. When he’d fallen his nose hit the inside of his helmet and started bleeding. Someone, presumably Starbeam, had cleaned him up.
Thud. Jason froze. He could hear movement—and then talking.
“—he doing here, Stars?” That was Kon's voice.
“He was bleeding out on the pavement, Kon. What did you expect me to do? Leave him there to die?”
“No. But maybe you could have… I dunno… not brought him here? He's a killer, babe. He's not the Jason you remember.”
“He's still Jason,” Stars insisted. “And he's one of my oldest friends!”
“He’s a murderer! Did you hear what he did in Gotham? Eight decapitated heads in a duffel bag!”
“Imagine if you died and got dragged back to life, Conner,” Stars said. “What if he didn’t want to come back? He has plenty of reasons to be angry. But he doesn’t have anyone else to turn to and he needs help.”
“Did it ever occur to you that he came back to help us with the warehouse and then returned now because he’s trying to win you over?”
“Of course it did. But this is Jason we’re talking about, Kon. One of my best friends. He’s not pursuing me.”
“You don’t know that for certain. Who says he’s not trying to tear us apart?”
“Don’t be unreasonable, Conner. You don’t know him as well as I do.”
“As well as you did,” Conner returned sharply.  “He’s not the same!”
“I'm not going to stand here and argue with you about the philosophy of coming back to life when neither of us have done that,” Starbeam retorted. “Jason was a good kid who was trying his best with what he had to work with. We’ve all had crappy lives and he’s not the only one to lash out because of it. Very little in this life could be considered worse than dying and coming back to life and digging yourself out of your own grave.”
“Wait,” Conner said. “He’s awake.”
Jason heard Stars take a deep breath and emerge from the bedroom where they’d been arguing.
“Hey Jay,” she greeted, approaching the back of the couch and resting her knuckles on the back cushions. “Gave me a good scare there. I found you bleeding out on the pavement and on the brink of death.”
Conner left the bedroom a moment after, arms crossed and eyes narrowed. He stayed silent.
“How are you feeling?” Starbeam asked quietly. “Does it hurt anywhere?”
“Surprisingly no,” Jason said. “What’d you give me?”
She shrugged. “Nothing special. Some mild painkillers. We don’t keep heavy-duty ones here. Do you mind if I…?” She nodded to his injury.
“Go ahead.” He shifted as she circled the sofa to the front and peeked under the bandaging.
“Wow,” she said. “That’s healing really well. You bats never fail to surprise me.”
Jason grunted and adjusted his position. “It’s a side-effect of the Lazarus Pit. After the Madness faded I still heal pretty fast.”
“I don’t know what that means,” Starbeam remarked, fixing his bandage.
“Long story. Listen. Thank you for helping me. I just… I didn’t know… who else I could turn to. Dunno if you’ve noticed but I don’t have many allies at the moment,” he said.
Kon scoffed. “Whose fault is that?”
“Kon,” Starbeam warned. She gave Jason a soft look. “Ignore him. He’s just worried. And he has every right to be but I know you better than that.”
“You did,” Conner grumbled.
Starbeam straightened up and gave her boyfriend a Look. “We’re not having this conversation anymore, Conner,” she said with her hands on her hips. “It’s rude to argue in front of guests.”
Another scoff from Kon. “He’s not a guest, Starry. He’s a threat.”
“Conner!” Starbeam snapped. “Babe, I love you, but you have got to chill.”
Jason’s wound throbbed as his heart ached hearing her love someone else. That crush from his adolescence never went away, that much was certain. He winced and put his hand over his injury but stayed silent.
Conner’s jaw was set and his arms were still folded, but Starbeam wasn’t at all afraid of him. She’d never been afraid of anyone on the team. Jason had always admired that. Surrounded by dangerous and powerful kids, she’d started shy but unafraid. She stood her ground against all of Kon’s most livid outbursts when Jason was Robin and wasn’t backing down now.
^^^^^
Kon glared at me. “Why can’t you see that he’s dangerous?” he asked sharply.
I took a deep breath and sighed. “We’re all dangerous. You get used to it after a while. And Jason is nothing I can’t handle.” I glanced down at Jason on the couch. He was watching Conner and I talk like it was a tennis match.
“Remember the duffel bag full of heads?” Conner reminded me.
I rolled my eyes. “You won’t let me forget it.”
“Then why are you helping him?”
“Because he’s my friend!”
“Well your friend is tearing this—” He pointed between himself and me. “—apart at the seams. I don’t trust him and I don’t understand why you do.”
“Jason won’t hurt us,” I said quietly. “That’s why I trust him.”
“No,” Kon snapped. “He won’t hurt you and you know it, because he’s still in love with you. The rest of the team, though? I have no doubt that he’d mow them down without a second’s hesitation if he felt threatened by them or thought they were in his way. Even Nightwing. He’d take out his own brother.”
Jason opened his mouth as though to say something, thought for a moment, and closed it again.
Just as well because Kon shot him a glare that could stop a ravenous animal in its tracks. His glares were scary, even if they weren’t as bad as that one time Batman glared at me for being disobedient to something.
Kon took a deep breath and leveled his gaze at me. “So. Choose, Stars. Stay friends with him, or stay with me. I can’t trust him and refuse to expose the team to him.”
“Kon it’s not as simple as choosing sides. Jason is my friend but I still love you. I don’t want to choose between one or the other because you’re paranoid that something bad will happen,” I argued.
“He is a criminal, Starbeam!” Conner exploded. “And if you want to still hang out with him, you’re going to have to choose. Or I’ll choose for you.”
My expression went slack. “Kon. Babe. Think about this. Don’t be irrational. Everything’s fine. I helped him because he called me when he was in the act of dying. And because he’s my friend and has been since we were fifteen. We don’t have to get this extreme because of this. Just… think for a moment.”
“Babe. If you want to keep being friends with a criminal, I can’t… I can’t. I just can’t.” He went over to the living room window and pulled it open. “So. Make a decision. Decide where your loyalties are. I’ll be back later.”
He flew out.
“Yikes. Has he always been like that to you?” Jason asked.
I sighed and plopped onto the loveseat next to the couch, burying my face in my hands. “No,” I said. “We’ve been together for four years, Jason. Four. Years. I know him better than I know myself. I don’t know what’s gotten into him.”
“I do,” Jason said.
I looked up from my hands. “Oh yeah?” I challenged.
“Yeah,” he said. “Me. The thought of me has gotten under his skin. A mixture of somewhat-justified righteousness and jealousy. I heard you two in your room. Asking if I came back to the warehouse and the harbor to win you over. I didn’t, by the way. Thought about it before the warehouse, I’ll admit, but I always just wanted you to be happy. Even if it meant not with me.”
Slowly, he moved to climb off the couch. His movements were ginger and he winced several times.
I got up and helped him to his feet. “Thanks, Stars. For… everything,” he said. Standing so close to me, I could see a ring of green around the pupil of his blue irises. Those weren’t there before. Or if they were I’d never noticed.
My breathing was heavy from pulling him to his feet—he was significantly bigger than he’d been as Robin—and I couldn’t help but stare at him for a moment. He’d grown into a handsome young man. I took a deep breath to steady myself and gave him an awkward grin. “You’re welcome, Jason. I'm… I'm sorry about Kon.”
He shrugged. “Never liked me anyway.” I helped him into the top half of his suit. “Hey, so, listen Stars. How about you come with me? Get away from this town for a little while. Give your big scary boyfriend some time to chill out.” He shrugged into his brown leather jacket and picked up his helmet. “Can’t guarantee it’ll be as exciting as living this close to Mt. Justice and the team but… I guarantee that we can still get into all kinds of shenanigans.”
“Jason I can’t condone the things you’ve done.”
“But I'm done with them. I was bent on revenge but once I got over that I… What I’ve done is inexcusable. I know that. Maybe what I'm really asking is for you to come keep me in check. Because I know I wouldn’t listen to… anyone else.” He gave me a smirk. “You wouldn’t even have to tell Conner that’s where you went. Just say you want to go find yourself or something and meet me in National City.”
“He’ll know,” I said. “I’d be surprised if he wasn’t listening to this right now.”
“Doubt it. He’s too frustrated.”
I bit my lip and glanced at the open living room window where Conner had flown out. Then I looked back at Jason, who was giving me the crooked smile he always gave me when convincing me to sneak out of the mountain and make mischief. He pulled his gloves on and offered me his hand.
“Whaddaya say, Stars? Wanna live a little? See who you are away from this team? Away from him?”
I took a deep breath, thinking about it. The glint of playfulness in Jason’s eyes was almost green. It was an inviting look. I almost wanted to grab his hand and run away from everything with him. Get away from whatever was plaguing Kon… try to survive on my own… only come back when I missed the team…
I grabbed his hand. “Let’s go,” I said.
“Pack your suit. I guarantee you’ll need it.”
^^^^^
Approximately Eight Months Later…
^^^^^
July 7, 10:26AM
Jason took my hand. “Race ya to the rocks!” he said. I laughed. If he was holding my hand then it wasn’t really a race. He just wanted to make it sound like a competition.
We both kicked off our shoes and ran down the beach, hanging onto each other so I didn’t fall behind. I hadn’t grown since before he and I met but he certainly had. He was bigger and taller than Nightwing and his legs were so long there was no way I’d be able to keep up.
Our free hands slammed into the rock at the same time. A wave rushed up the beach and soaked our bare feet. We both laughed.
Then stopped.
I licked the sea salt off my lower lip and glanced up at him to find he was already staring at me.
It felt like the year I crushed on Kon all over again. Charged looks and moments where the atmosphere is so tense I could cut it with a rusty spoon. Kon and I had never officially broken up but… I doubted we could be considered a couple at this point. I hadn’t been back to Mt. Justice in ages and Red Hood and Starbeam had kept out of the news so no one knew where to look for us.
“Jay…” I began. “I…” I shook my head. “Screw it. I'm falling for you. Hard.” I cradled his neck with my hands and brought it down to me. He closed his eyes. I did too. We sealed our lips together.
It only lasted a moment before we were running out of the way of a wave crashing up the beach, squealing and cackling as our trousers got wet.
“Stars?” Jason asked, hand resting on my forearm and sliding down to my hand. “You alright?”
I couldn’t help but snort bitterly. “You always could tell when something was bothering me when no one else could. Not even Conner.” I sighed. “Kon and I talked about getting married once,” I said. “We were together for four and a half years. Figured if we still were together for five, we could make it through anything. We’d be old enough to get married. After you died we never counted on something being able to break us apart. Now I'm falling for my best friend and… I almost feel guilty. Four and a half years.
“For the first month I traveled with you I thought every day of going home to Mt. Justice. Play the ‘kiss and make up’ game with Kon. Maybe get back on track. Apologize for our fight. And then I… I never could. I couldn’t leave you. Then I… I found myself falling for you so intensely that I definitely couldn’t go back to Mt. Justice and I didn’t want to.”
“And now?” Jason prompted.
“Now I want to stay with you through everything. As both my best friend and the current subject of my feelings.”
“Stars, you’ve been the subject of my feelings since I was fifteen. If you’ll have me, I’ll be with you through everything too.”
“I’ll have you, Jason. All of you.”
He bent down and kissed me. I kissed him back enthusiastically. “I love you, Starbeam,” Jason whispered. “I’ve waited years to say that again.”
“And now you can have the feeling returned. I love you, Red Hood,” I replied.

So ambitious 3:53 PM Jay Z—-
Said I'd either be dead or be a reefer head The motivation (word up) for me (fuck y'all)
Is them telling me what I could not be, oh well
Hey! Hey!
I'm so ambitious (hey!)
I might hit two sisters (hey!)
Hey, I'm on a mission (hey!)
No matter what the conditions (hey!)
Forget personal issues (hey!)
When you go what I been through (hey!)
Hey, if you believe it (then be)
Then you could conceive it (you, see?!)
Dear Teacher, you're probably somewhere near a speaker
I'm balling outta control, can you hear my sneakers
Fuck y'all
Never the house of love 4:00–Go to war, what a drag
A love of hate is really not the way
Light a flame or go to sleep
The time is right to celebrate or die
Tumblr media
Lust, kendrick Lamar 4:02–I need some water
Something came over me
Way too hot to simmer down, might as well overheat Rush the fire exit, no time for battles
Well I, I never expected
This that new shit Whatever you doing, just make it count (I need some water)
I wake in the morning, my head spinning from the last night
Both in a trance, feelings are dead—what a fast life
Lately, in James 4:4 says
"Friend of the world is enemy of the Lord"
Brace yourself: Lust is all yours
I need some water—the big point here is the water; I keep a liter by the bed because I keep waking up unable to breathe. I don’t go to bed without a bottle, because I’ll get right back up.
4:08 old and wise alan parsons project—-And to those I leave behind, I want you all to know
You've always shared my darkest hours
I'll miss you when I go

4:11 knife grizzly bear—
I want you to know, when I look in your eyes
With every blow, comes another lie
You think it's alright, you think it's alright
Can't you feel the knife?— I think everybody knows the story by now. Al Capone has a slight role in it. But it’s about me being knifed by a dead mobster in Lanza’s when the Tarot Reader took me out for my birthday. Two healers asked me why there was a knife sticking out of my back when they were working on me.
4:16 PM my love will not let you down Bruce Springsteen—I got a time bomb tickin' deep inside of me
In your eyes plants and animals 4:22PM—I tried to follow
There's something soft in your eyes
When did you start to move so slowly?
When did you change the way you talked to us?
Tumblr media
Hands around my throat death in Vegas 4:27 PM—Back down and touch, the door is shut
In the end you're just too close
There's no-one here, there's no-one there
I still can't tell, and if you'd better try this
And you might find, I'm in your place, I see your face
The air is cold, I'm still on hold
I still can't tell of what's been said
Your hands around my throat, ask me to let go
Tumblr media
Christmas The Who 4:33— and the funny thing about this song is it starts at this really High Point, he says “ Did you ever see the faces of the children? They get so excited”…. Well I started to pick up on my own spirit children’s excitement every time this would play, but today it was a whole different level. So there’s that.
This song of course is about Tommy symbolizing Jakk, and not to sound vain but references to my abilities as a healer.
Modern things the yeah yeah yeahs 4:37–Did you find a boy
You meant to destroy?
Friendly advice Luna 4:44—I had to be drunk
Just to look at your face
That was all right by me
How long will this go....
How long will this go....
How long will this go on
Tumblr media
Never be the same Camilla Cabello 4:55—this was the winner of the day next to fuck it I love you; they had me sing it, and since I realized I’d been poisoned, I hadn’t been singing much, but let’s look at the lyrics.
Somethin' must've gone wrong in my brain
Got your chemicals all in my veins
Feelin' all the highs, feelin' all the pain
Let go of the wheel, that's the bullet lane
Now I'm seein' red, not thinkin' straight
Blurrin' all the lines, you intoxicate me
Just like nicotine, heroin, morphine
Suddenly, I'm a fiend and you're all I need
All I need, yeah, you're all I need
It's you, babe
And I could try to run, but it would be useless
You're to blame
Just one hit of you, I knew I'll never be the same
Off of one touch, I could overdose
You said, "Stop playin' it safe
Girl, I wanna see you lose control"
You're in my blood, you're in my veins, you're in my head (I blame)
I can’t even tell you how meaningful it was to sing this. Really. I was kinda loud.

Something New
Jason Todd x Reader + Damian
Request:  they go to a carnival or somewhere or a mall or a pet cafe with Titus,  doing a mother and son bonding kind of thing or family bonding! and then Damian starts to act like a normal kid, being excited and all without knowing it himself and when he does he gets all embarrassed and 'these are for kids' 😭😭👌❤ and maybe if they're doing family bonding Jason responds 'but you ARE a KID'. OH THEY CAN ALSO MAYBE TRY SOMETHING NEW, IDUNNO, THAT CAUSES DAMIAN TO MAKE WEIRD FACES XD maybe like, weird foods? I'M A TOTAL FOODIE CANT HELP IT XD I'M SORRY FOR THE SPAM, I just love the idea Damian being fluffy and cuddly- I LOVE KIDS they're so cutee.
Warnings: None?
A/N: This is for you @thatawesomenerdygirl, and literally I’m in such a Jason mood today! Also, if you haven’t seen a street carnival before, they do them a lot in Bolivia around the holidays so that’s what I’m referring to. I swear I’ve been to this carnival in Bolivia. Also, I was imaging Jason in this outfit from @inkydandy ‘s beautiful comic.
Despite everyone shipping me with Dick, I still love Jason <3 (I love Dick too)
Tumblr media
“I can’t believe I actually got the both of you to go ice-skating! All because of that one comment.” You laugh whole-heartedly, clutching your stomach as you make sure your hat stays atop your head.
“Well, you weren’t wrong... ice-skating does require balance and skill.... something only a trained assassin would be able to easily maneuver.” Damian says cockily as a big grin displays itself across his face. Gripping Titus’ leash a little tighter Jason gives him a glare, soon turning into a smirk.
“One... why do you always have to talk like that? and, easily maneuver? You fell down literally almost thirty times!” Jason laughs, ending up with Damian giving him a death stare.
“You fell down just as much as me! Y/N had to hold your hands the whole time!” You try to contain your laughter as it was true... you really did have to hold Jason’s hands the whole time, which was really cute if you were being honest... however, Jason didn’t think this was cute considering his little brother learned to skate all on his own.
“Hey, hey! Let’s not fight, okay? It’s a nice day and okay, yeah... you both failed and fell a LOT, but whatever... you should’ve seen me the first time I went ice-skating, I fell down probably the same amount of times as well as held the railing the whole time” you joke, hoping to distract them.
“Really?” Damian asks with a child-like curiosity and intrigue.
“Yeah! It was hilarious! Well.... not for me, but still... it takes practice, just like anything else.” You guys walk a little further with questions and small talk few and far between.
“Hey, look! Damian, have you ever had a funnel cake?” You nudge his side as you gesture with your head to the little street carnival a few yards away at the other side of the park.
“Funnel cake? What’s tha-”
“Remember when Grayson made us all go to the circus with him? And he gave you that dough-thing with powdered sugar and chocolate? that’s a funnel cake.” Jason explains as we walk down the fork of the path which leads to the small booths set up randomly along the path.
You were stumped. You wanted to get Damian to try something else new today, but what else was there... you looked at the signs and eventually you found it! “Okayyyy... BUT, have you tried fried oreos?” Jason raises a brow at you in question. Damian looks at you incredulously, as if you had suggested the most disgusting thing in the world.
“Fried... oreos?” Jason pulls his hat a bit further down, over his ears.
“Yeah... they sound gross, trust me- my friend had to practically force me to try them but they’re actually pretty good. Plus! We can get hot chocolate or apple cider or something.” You suggest as you take Damian’s hand and lead him over to the food booth.
“Why don’t you go pick out a table?” You grab quite a few napkins before stuffing them in Damian’s hands, shooing him over to the plastic picnic tables which stood in rows under another tent.
“I’ll pay.” Jason places Titus’ leash in his other hand while he fishes around in his coats pocket. Taking out his wallet he asks the man ‘how much’, before he pays.
“Does your dog like treats?” an young women says as she stops in front of you, having interrupted her run judging by her outfit.
“Uh... yeah?” You’re skeptical, and hope this isn’t someone trying to poison Titus.
“Can I give him a treat? I just bring treats with me when I run because people always bring there dogs here.” She gestures to her fanny pack and unzips it, pulling out a small ziplock bag.
“Uh....” you look back at Jason who was chatting with the man inside the little kitchen as you waited for the food. “Sure” you offer a small shrug as you figure ‘why not?’. Everyone in Gotham isn’t a bad person.
The lady places the treat down in front of Titus, who just looks at it. “You can eat it Titus,” you chuckle lightly as he gives in, chomping up the small jerky-like treat the lady had placed on the ground. Titus licks his lips when he’s finished and looks up at the lady, wagging his tail subtly. “Thank you,” you smile at the woman, bidding her goodbye.
“Yeah, of course! I just like doing something for the dogs, you know?” She gives a soft smile before waving back and jogging off. Turning around you’re faced with Jason turning around with a paper plate in his hand.
“Can you get the drinks?” He asks before gripping Titus’ leash a little tighter.
“Yeah, of course.” You give him a quick kiss on the cheek as you grab the drinks. Watching Jason blush even a little was the most heart-warming gift you could receive as you flustered him, walking ahead of him you make it to the picnic table Damian seemed to be waiting at impatiently. “Did you make a friend?”
You laugh as you watch a baby sitting two tables away smiling at Damian with goo-goo eyes. Damian stares right back at the baby, not hesitating as he inspects it. “No... but they won’t stop staring! It’s kind of creepy.”
“So... Mr. J isn’t creepy but a baby is?” Your face contorts with an amused sort of confusion.
“I never said he wasn’t creepy, pleeeassee... he’s SO so creepy, but this baby...” Damian scrunches his nose in disgust.
“Do you really hate babies that much? What if you had a niece or nephew?” You question, sliding Damian’s apple cider towards him from across the table.
Jason chokes on his own drink as your eyes widen, whipping your head towards him. “Are you okay?” You reactively pat him on the back lightly.
“Y-yeah...” Jason clears his throat before looking down at Titus and giving him a few pats on the head.
“Anyways, these are actually really good so everyone has to try one!” You watch and wait to take your own as Jason grabs one with no hesitation while Damian cautiously grabs one, inspecting it.
“Fried... oreos?” You nod at him, waiting for him to take a bite, “And it’s good...?” You nod again, encouraging him to go on.
You reach to grab your own as Damian slowly raises the ball to his mouth. As you reach to grab your own, Jason is reaching for his second and you just look at him giggling. “See, Damian? They’re good.” Looking from Jason to Damian you see Damian take his first bite, his face contorting to disgust.
“Do you not like it?” You feel a bit of minuscule guilt wash over you like a wave at having somewhat forced him to eat it.
“I don’t think I really tasted it.” Damian takes another bite, chewing it his face turns into one of contemplation, then to a surprised ‘not half bad’ frown as he nods his head. “They’re alright... they’re pretty good.” Damian gives his approval, leaving you to eat your own.
Tumblr media
Walking along the booths Damian sees a dart game, “OOH! Can we play Y/N, pleeeasse?” Damian begs.
...Since when does Damian beg? What the hell? Okay... “Yeah, sure!” you reply cheerily as you race to the nearby tent, Titus running way faster than you, almost working you rather than the other way around.
Once you’ve paid for your game Jason finally gets to the tent, standing between you and Damian. “Jason can play the winner, yeah?” You turn to Damian before you start throwing your darts, Damian already focused on the target. “Only if you want to” You turn to tell him.
“Okay... sure” You watch Jason smile before turning back to start your game. Going up against two trained vigilantes who can easily throw a batarang at a target more than five feet away, or even shoot a man from a ten yards away.... yeah... not your best challenged you’d set yourself up for, but it was more for fun than for the idea of winning.
“I won! I won!” Damian jumps up and down excitedly. The man asks Damian what small prize he’d like, and he looks up contemplating.
Damian picks out a stuffed baby Charmander as the man gives it to him he hugs it tight. “Those are for kids, Damian” Jason taunts, trying to get him to give a reaction in return.
“Uh-huh, okay Todd... you’re on.” Damian sets baby Charmander on the ledge of the booth and asks the man how to get the REALLY big stuffed animals.
Both of the boys take their time throwing their darts, Damian has his game face on as he hits the bullseye every time. “I won! Again!” Damian cries as the man asks which stuffed animal he wants this time.
Jason grumbles to himself at the loss, figuring it’d be easy to beat his little brother. “Hey... if you really wanted the prize you can ask Dami to get it for you.” You smile at him, teasing him.
Damian ends up getting a teddy bear three times his size which Jason has to carry on his back for him as Damian takes Titus, while I take Damian’s little Charmander. “And you said that they were for kids.” Damian scoffs.
“but you ARE a kid! And who said I wasn’t? I’ll always be a kid, right Babe?” Jason turns and kisses you chastely while still walking.
“Right!” You say cheerily, happy with how the day had gone.
You loved seeing Damian get to be a kid, as it always brought out the best parts of him, but you also loved seeing Jay get to be childish too... in a good way because sometimes he forgets the good things in life, and you’re determined to show him the good, little things every single day for as long as you live.

Wanting To Be With You
Tumblr media Tumblr media
You were happy when Minsik called saying he needed you. Taking a seat in one of the AOMG lounges you let Minsik know you were there and waited for him.
Not long after Minsik came in with slumped shoulders. “Hey baby girl” Minsik greeted you with no energy at all before dropping on the couch and laying his head on your lap.
“What happened?” you grew concerned.
He wrapped his arms around your middle and hid his face in your tummy. “I’m so tired,” his words were muffled but you understood them. Your hand instinctively began to caress his head, running your fingers through his hair and massaging his temple.
“You want to sleep?” You giggled with the ticklish sensation of his hair against your legs when he nodded in the affirmative. “Then go to sleep, I’ll take care of you.” No more words were said. Minsik fell asleep in your lap holding onto you like a little kid held a stuffed animal to sleep.
Whenever the guys passed by, you placed your finger against your lips urging them to remain quiet so Minsik’s sleep wasn’t disturbed. It was times like these you saw how hard Minsik worked.
Afte a couple of hours Minsik woke up feeling reenergized. Looking up from your lap he found you fast asleep. You looked so peaceful, so beautiful that he couldn’t resist giving you a kiss. He placed his lips against yours lightly for a moment then pulled away to see your eyes flutter open.
“Minsik you’re awake” your voice came out in a whisper. You were still not fully awake. “Yeah, and you were asleep.” He laughed, “The first time we see each other this week and we both fell asleep.”
“I don’t mind, I know you are working hard.” You gave him a reassuring smile. It didn’t matter if all he wanted was a nap buddy. You were happy to be there for Minsik when he needed you. As long as you got to see him you were okay.
“Thanks, baby girl.”
"Y/N," Kiseok called out your name when he saw you in front of the AOMG building. "Are you looking for Minsik? You know he's off shooting a video with Jay." Your jaw dropped at the information. This was the first you were hearing of this.
Lately, you had been seeing less and less of Minsik. He rarely went on dates with you and hardly ever called you over. That’s why you were looking forward to today. After patiently waiting for him to make the time you thought you were finally going to see him.
"By the look on your face, I'm guessing you didn't." Kiseok felt like perhaps he was stepping into something he shouldn't but felt bad for you. "Don't you two text?"
"I texted him last night to confirm our plans but I guess he just blindly responded." Looking at the series of text messages you saw yours took up most of the space while his were one-word responses. But, he had clearly said yes to you coming over so he could take you to dinner. "Thank you for telling me Kiseok," you gave him a friendly smile. "If it wasn't for you I'd be waiting here like an idiot for much longer."
"Wait" he stopped you from leaving. "I know where they are filming. Do you want me to take you there?"
Even though you wanted to see Minsik you didn't want to bother him. "That's okay. I'll just go home." You waved goodbye and frowned once you were out of Kiseok's sight.
"That's not good" Kiseok spoke to himself. He had his fair share of relationships to know you were just acting tough. He knew for a fact that Minsik had been dedicating his all to this new song with Jay, that he had been in the studio almost 24/7, and that he hardly went home. This probably meant he had also neglected to see that you were slowly slipping away. It was good to work hard on music but Kiseok had learned that it was important to work hard on relationships as well, that is if he wanted to have one.
Concerned for the younger male Kiseok showed up at the shoot site even though he didn't have to. He waited for it to be over so he could talk to Minsik.
"Good job Minsik." Jay gave him a pat on the back before leaving.
"Thanks, hyung." A proud smile remained on Minsik's face as Kiseok walked up to him.
"Minsik can I talk to you?"
"Sure."
"Y/N was waiting for you at AOMG."
"Really? Why? I told her I was going to be busy today." He tracked his phone down in his pockets and took it out to check. "Sh*t," he sighed when he saw he had completely messed up. "I guess I didn't. Did she sound mad?"
Kiseok hesitated to respond. You sounded perfectly normal but the look in your eyes said something else. "Not really."
"Then it's no big deal. Y/N is very understanding."
Kiseok's brow rosed at the naive smile on Minsik's face. He was completely at ease and trusting you to understand the situation without an explanation. "Minsik take it from me. Women don't always say or show what is on their minds. They are good at hiding things for our sake but eventually, it's too much."
"What do you mean hyung?"
"Minsik, women are like plants. Communication is like water and you are like the sun. If you forget to water a plant once in a while it will be fine. There won't be any signs of harm at first. But if you neglect to let it get a look at the sun as well... then it will wither beyond repair. Only until it's too late will you see the damage and regret you didn't take care of the plant." Seeing the confusion on Minsik's face made Kiseok give up. "Just apologize Minsik."
That night as you were getting ready for bed and in the middle of brushing your teeth you saw the screen of your phone light up with a new text notification.  Placing your finger on the home button your phone unlocked with your fingerprint and showed you the message.
Minsik: Sorry Babe, Kiseok told me what happened. I thought I told you about my schedule and now I feel bad. Forgive me?
You took a deep breath. It was really late and you didn't want to go to bed angry so once again you brushed it off.
You: Of course I forgive you ^^  You: Keep up the good work. Love you~❤
Minsik: Love you too❤
The next time you saw him was a different story. Your hands turned to fists as you stood in the middle of the club staring over at the booth where your boyfriend was having the time of his life with his friends.
“Y/N what’s wrong?” One of your friends noticed how you had separated from the group and went to check on you.
“He’s here,” a lump in your throat kept you from forming longer sentences. “Minsik is here.” You felt so betrayed and unimportant when you saw your boyfriend out having fun with his friends after he had turned down your offer.
“What? Where is he? Didn’t he say he was going to be busy working?”
You nodded. “He’s here with his friends.” You pointed over at their booth.
Your friend observed the scene, they were all laughing, drinking, just having a good time. “That doesn’t look like work to me.”
“I know” you sighed. “This is the second time he ditches me for his friends.”
After the club incident, you decided to have a talk with Minsik. “Five more minutes and that’s it,” you told yourself in a loud enough voice for the people in the next booth to look in your direction. “Sorry” you apologized as best as you could knowing your face wasn’t the friendliest at the moment. You knew you probably had a bitchy look but that was because you were in a bitchy mood.
A quick glance at your phone had you realize that Minsik wouldn’t be joining you this evening either. A year into the relationship and he already forgot how to communicate. You sighed, deciding to give up on the five minutes and just slip out before the restaurant got any busier.
You paid your bill for the four iced-teas you had downed while waiting. As you walked home you felt your bladder ready to explode from all the liquid.
You understood that he had a social life to maintain. He had friends who missed him just as much as you did. You just wished Minsik missed you as much as you missed him.
Later that night a knock woke you up from your sleep. You sat up feeling lost, looking around you realized you fell asleep on your uncomfortable couch. Upon opening the door you came face to face with a stuffed bear. You took a step back surprised by its size.
Minsik used the bear to cover his face as he apologized. “Minsik says he’s sorry.”
Your lips curved up, instinctively cracking a smile as you heard his lame attempt at making a cute voice for the bear. Holding back your laughter you took a deep breath and responded, “For which time? Monday when offered to take me to dinner?”
“Yes”
“What about when he turned down my invitation to go clubbing but went with his friends instead?” He didn’t know you had seen him because you never mentioned it. You were going to tell him today but he didn’t show up.
Minsik’s eyes widened. “He’s really really sorry about that one.” He bit his lip in anticipation of what your answer would be. He knew he shouldn’t have lied but he really wanted to go out with them.
“And today?”  Your lips were pressed together in a tight line as you thought over what to do. You wanted to let him in but at the same time, you felt so wronged.
“Today too,” Minsik took a peek from behind the bear when you remained silent. He could see by the look in your eyes that he had hurt you. “Baby girl, I’m so sorry. I really am,” he spoke normally now putting the bear down.
This felt like the best moment to get some answers so you summoned your courage to ask, “Minsik answer honestly… are you bored, are you getting tired of me, of us?” Your hand motioned back and forth between you two.
“No, of course not. Why would you ask that?”
“Well, it just seems like we keep seeing less of each other. I hate to even think this but sometimes I start to wonder if perhaps you don’t like me as much as you used to.”
His brow furrowed before insisting that was nowhere near the truth. It hurt him to think he had put those ideas in your head by neglecting you. “Y/N I love you.” His hands reached out to hold yours and pulled you into a hug. He placed his lips on your forehead letting them rest there in a long sweet kiss that had you close your eyes. His hands ran up and down your back trying to put you at ease. “I really don’t know how I can express the amount of love I have for you.”
The sincerity was there, you could feel it. He was genuinely sorry and the memory of him hiding behind a giant teddy bear just moments ago tugged at your heartstrings. “I forgive you.”
Minsik finally gave a loud sigh of relief. He had been holding his breath imagining the worst. “Thanks, baby girl.” He hugged you tightly against him and you hugged him back this time. “I always want to be with you.”
“Me too.” You gave him a peck on the lips before picking up the bear beside him and snuggling against its white fur. “Are you staying or just him” you motioned to the bear.
“I’m staying” Minsik laughed.

Silver and Gold
Chapter 25--Back to Normal?
(AO3 ver.)
(Prologue Tumblr ver.; AO3 ver.)
The hum of Lloyd’s powers was the first thing that broke the silence. The heroes of Ninjago slowly raised their heads to a starry sky coated in golden strings of light. Opening one eye at a time, Lloyd eased the shield down as the Ultra Dragon lowered his wings.
“Woah . . .” the boys breathed. The ground was littered with debris, branches, and traces of the four elements. Trees that were bent were covered with a layer of dirt, but what caught their attention was an awakening Gold Ninja. “Janet!”
“Ugh, what happened?” she groaned as the young heroes flocked to her.
“You have unlocked your true potential,” Sensei Wu said.
“My . . . what?”
“You must’ve overcome an obstacle within yourself,” Zane stated.
An obstacle within myself . . . “I guess . . . finally accepting that it’s okay to need help must’ve been it.”
“You were amazing!” Jay complimented.
“I think she nearly outshined all of us,” Cole joked.
Although he was proud of his teammate, Kai’s smile faded at the absence of Destiny.
“But . . . where’s Destiny?” Lloyd asked.
The group scanned the area for any sign of their friend. But no glint of silver caught their eyes.
“Okay, who’s the one that smacked my head five minutes ago?”
Unanimously they looked off to their far right to see a familiar brunette rubbing the back of her head, her ninja hood off and her hair a wind-swept mess. “Destiny!” the group cheered.
She caught sight of the young heroes rushing up to her, and the second she was on her feet they tackled her in a hug.
“You’re okay!” Nya exclaimed.
“I’m glad you’re back, Des,” Kai spoke.
“Me too,” Destiny replied with a soft smile. As everyone else parted, those two contently remained exactly where they were.
“Ahem?” Jay said.
The duo’s eyes shot open, and they hastily released each other with sheepish expressions.
“It’s good to have you back, Destiny,” Misako said.
Destiny gave the elders a kind smile, but it faded away as the memories of her deeds under the dark matter immediately surfaced. “I am so . . . so sorry for everything I did. Everything.”
“Me too,” Janet added solemnly.
“You guys weren’t yourselves,” Kai assured. “Blake is the one to blame here.”
“And boy did he get what he deserved!” Cole added.
"You really knocked him out of the park!" Jay beamed.
Nosing her way through, the wolf looked to Destiny, who reared back at her sudden appearance. Much like before, they locked eyes with each other for a few intriguing moments. Respectfully, the canine lowered her head, and Destiny gingerly rubbed the wolf’s head.
“Um, nice wolf?” Destiny queried.
Having finally found the Ninja of Silver, the wolf tackled her and licked her face.
“Hey—! Easy!”
As for Janet and the cheetah, they both made steady eye contact as they circled one another.
“This is . . . uh . . .,” Janet started.
After a few circles they switched directions, until finally they stopped. The cheetah nosed Janet’s hand with a quiet maow, and the Gold Ninja accepted her.
Destiny’s hand remained entangled in the wolf’s fur, feeling strangely—at least to her—calm. “Is it weird to say this feels—”
“Right?” Janet finished. “Not sure.”
“Well, I guess that solves that,” Nya concluded. “Let’s go home, guys.”
Nya’s POV
Weeks have passed since our final encounter with the Overlord’s successor. The citizens welcomed Janet and Des back with our help, and the cheetah and wolf easily made themselves at home with us. Janet had named the cheetah Dawn while Destiny took the name Midnight. Everyone still trained every now and then, but after a while, no one found a reason to anymore. There just wasn’t an enemy to fight. Even Sensei, Misako, and Garmadon came to that conclusion.
“I’m still keeping my eye on you, Mr. Hot Head,” Janet said. We were relaxing at the park and Janet had been eyeing my brother for the past twenty minutes.
“Yeah, yeah, I know,” Kai brushed off.
“I dunnooo,” Jay chirped. “You two have been hanging out a lot lately.”
“They have been getting rather close,” Zane added with a smile.
“We might have another pair of lovebirds on our hands,” Cole teased.
“Oh cut it out!” Des said. Dawn yawned in disinterest as she continued to soak up the sun, her pelt still glimmering with traces of gold and black diamonds.
Suddenly Kai straightened up. “Uh what time is it?”
“Three-ish. Why?
“Ah man!” He shot off the bench within the blink of an eye.
“What the—where are you going?!”
Midnight nudged her with a dopey grin on her face.
“I think someone has an idea,” Zane teased.
Holding a grin back, Des followed Midnight down the path Kai took.
Destiny’s POV
“Okay, he’s been taking off for no reason at all and it’s getting really annoy—”
Midnight scooped me up before shooting forward.
“Ahh! Are you behind something?”
All I got in response was a gleeful bark. All right, what’s going on here? Are these two--ugh.
After a few minutes Midnight slowed to a halt by a restaurant. Glancing to her, she gave me a grin as she panted. When I looked up, I spotted Kai smirking with his arms crossed.
“What are you up to?”
“Trust me. You’ll like this,” Kai reassured.
I shook my head with a sigh. “You ninjas and your secrecy.”
Following him to the entrance, he reached for the door. “After you—”
An employee beat him to the punch, leaving him hanging. “Welcome.”
I couldn’t help snickering as I walked inside, catching an annoyed look from Kai. The content expression of the man soon changed as he laid eyes on Midnight. “Um she’s with us.”
“No worry. Service animals are welcome here.”
Midnight snorted at the title, and we carried on inside to what was apparently a fancy restaurant. A chandelier greeted us as Kai confidently approached the small desk up front. Up ahead, there was a chef effortlessly preparing food right in front of some guests.
“Reservations?” I asked.
“Right this way, Ninjas,” a woman said.
All he did was smirk as the three of us followed the woman to a table. Once we were seated, she handed us menus before going off. “This was really hard to get in to, by the way.”
“Even for the high and mighty hero of Ninjago?”
“Hey! Don’t sell me too short.”
I gave him a flash of a challenging smirk. “Things are gonna be interesting, aren’t they?”
“Heh. You think so, huh?”
“Well let’s see. You suddenly take off, Midnight even knew what was going on, and I’m beginning to think you two were in cahoots and—and now there’s a rose on the table. Where did you get—why—?”
He laughed in self satisfaction. “Just relax.”
We both smiled at each other as the waiter approached our table. Snapping our attention off of each other, we ordered our food and drinks. After that it was pretty quiet between us.
Midnight slapped Kai’s sneaker in impatience, and he cleared his throat to cover up the notion.
“So, you like it?”
“Best place I’ve ever eaten at.”
“I knew you’d like it.”
I couldn’t help laughing a bit, and he smiled contently.
Gingerly he placed his hand on mine, and I had flashbacks to Blake doing the same thing. Then the chain of thoughts zipped to the Dark Waters gripping the team and my sister.
All because of me.
I could never forget their cries of pain, especially my sister’s. How could I . . . ?
“Des?”
I blinked back to the present.
“You looked a little distant. Everything okay?”
My eyes drifted to our hands, and with a quiet sigh through the nose I retracted my hand a bit. “What I did a couple weeks ago, I . . .” I let out a sigh. “I just need to remember that I can’t change the past. I also need to remember that you, Janet, and the others are here to support one another, no matter what.”
“Aaaand don’t forget I was the one who snapped you out of it.”
I laughed in spite of myself. “All right. I’ll admit that. I saved you . . .”
“And I, saved you.”
Smiling softly, I reached for his hand again. “Not just you, Spike. Everyone else, too. But yeah, you did.”
Our food finally arrived, and we chatted over the meal with Midnight giving her input. Besides getting to know each other’s techniques, we finally got to know each other a little more. Turns out he’s the first blacksmith I’ve met.
After that, we made our way out and walked under the city lights, the sun just beginning to set.
“You think we’ve been keeping everyone waiting?” I joked.
“Ahh I’m sure they can wait a little longer,” Kai said smoothly.
“You just want me aaaall to yourself, don’t you?”
“Well . . .”
We both glanced to Midnight walking behind us, her fur maintaining its glistening silver even now.
“I totally let your sister beat me the other day.”
I laughed again. “I’m sure you did. But, I got you pretty good the day before that.”
“Not before I pinned you down.”
“Ah but I kneed you before you pinned me down.”
“And I did Spinjitzu before you did that.” “Sure you did.”
“Admit it. You can’t catch me off guard.”
I smirked at the claim. “Oh, by the way,” I pecked him on the cheek, “thanks for dinner.”
That left him stunned as ever. “Well, ‘bout time you two came around!”
We glanced to Cole crossing his arms with a smirk. “Nice rose, Des,” Janet said.
“I think someone’s in a daze,” Zane teased, immediately putting a glare on Kai’s face.
“Heh. I remember our first date,” Jay said. “You remember, Nya?”
“Don’t think you can forget turning into a snake,” she commented.
“Wait. He turned into a snake?” Janet and I asked.
“Uhhh that one’s gonna have to wait,” Jay said.
“You ready to head back?” Lloyd asked with a smirk.
Kai and I nodded, and we all began the walk back home.
“Feels nice to have a home to go to again,” I said.
“Especially with these guys,” Janet agreed.
“Sooo what happens now?” Cole asked. “The fight’s over, the Overlord’s gone, and there’s no enemies left to fight.”
Everyone stayed quiet for a bit. “I guess we just . . . stay on the lookout for trouble,” Kai answered.
“Because there will always be a need for Ninjas,” Zane said. “And a Samurai.”
“Always,” Lloyd agreed.
“Excuse me. Are you the ones who saved Ninjago from the Overlord?”
We all turned around to see a man in a wheelchair. “Indeed we are!” Jay answered proudly.
“And these young ladies here?” He gestured to Janet and me.
“They’re pretty new, but I’m sure they’ll be able to handle anything,” Kai said, and I elbowed him playfully.
The man smiled in greeting. “Eh call me Cyrus, Cyrus Borg.”
[And that just about wraps up this one! As I've said before, I'll be working on and posting (VERY very soon) Book 4 for some of my readers who've been around since Day 1. The sequel to this will be coming around, obviously. Just not soon.
Anyway, I hope you guys enjoyed this as much as I enjoyed writing it! :)]

Chapter 1
“Menma, come on. I don’t feel like doing this". exhausted,I tried to pull my arm back from my brother's grip that was trying to drag me in this stupid bar.
“What is  your problem? Come on, we deserve this”
“We don’t deserve anything after getting scolded by captain Uchiha. We fucked up the paperwork on the Dani’s case. What is going to get drunk in a bar -that is most likely filled with a bunch of adolescents-  going to do for us? Except getting us hungover”
“You know how some athletes have wild sex with chicks before a big game?” My brother asked, opening the door of the bar. I narrowed his eyes when his word echoed through my head.
“I don’t think that is the case...Dattebayo” I muttered, but I  ended up following Menma inside the bar.
“I don’t know what your problem is. We meet some people. Tell them we’re detectives. promise to delete any sort of parking ticket they might have acquired. fuck ‘em aaaaaannnnddd~  forget about them.  With empty testicles  we go to work the next day and we will be more focussed”
“Menma, you are fucking stupid. You know that?” I said, but my bro didn’t listen. Instead he wrapped an arm around  me and pulled me closer.
“Look around you...Take a deep breath. Smell that?” He asked. It sounded rhetorical, “Desperate pussies. Waiting for some big Namikaze dick to fuck’em”
I   rolled my eyes  before looking at my brother...But then I cracked a smile. Yes, Menma was a sex-addict , but he made a point. There were a lot  of beautiful people here and it would be a shame if none were to come home with us.
“See those four?” Menma pointed at the booth with two woman.
“The two brunettes?” I asked to confirm.
“And  four double D’s”  Menma grinned as he approached them like some animal going for it’s prey.
“I thought you were into big butts, dattebayo”  I looked at him. I know I'm taught to support my brother, but I wanted those girls to throw their drinks on him to see him flip out. I crossed my fingers when he leaned against  their table and started talking.
Five seconds later. He got invited by them to sit with them. I couldn’t believe it...Were their fuckboy’s detectors broken? Or is that a thing these days?
“That is my bro. Dickhead, why don’t you come here!” Menma said his arm already wrapped around both of them. No, he wasn’t dividing his attention. He was checking them out and see which one he wanted to call dibs on.
“That is not my name” I said walking towards their booth.
“Why don’t you introduce yourself, handsome?“ The one with green eyes winked at me. I gave her kind smile.
“It is Naruto” I said, extending my hand.
“Actually, it is detective Namikaze, or should I say..Detectives”
Menma started his usual story. I sat down, giving the occasional nod to confirm his story.
“Show him your bullet wound, bro” Menma said.  The women gasped.
“Oh, it is not a big deal, dattebayo” I said, pulling my collar down so they could see the scar of the bullet below my collar bone.
“Luckley, that killer is no longer on the street. He will not terrorizing beautiful woman like you two anymore” Menma said. It made them chuckle.
“How about some drinks?” I asked, getting up from the booth. I could use some beer right now.
“Club soda”
“Make that two” The other woman said and I nodded.
“Beer for me, bro” Menma said.
“You get nothing, you drove” I argued.
“One beer!” He got moody and I couldn’t debate with him. I guess I will be the designated driver then.  I walked to the bar, waiting for the bartender to finish the order of a few university students. I wondered if he even bothered to ask for their ID's...Tch..I didn’t want to bother. I am a detective not a beat cop.
I turned my head to other side. I saw a pretty boy, looking down at his glass of whiskey. He seemed lost in thoughts, but damn was he beautiful. He had fair skin with black hair.
I narrowed my eyes.
No, I was wrong. His hair was not black, it had this dark blue tint. It was like...The Nightsky.
He looked at me. I couldn't blame him from thinking I was creepy for staring at him like that. I was about to smile at him or chuckle. Anything so he wouldn’t think I was some stalker, but when his face turned to me, all I could think of is how pretty he was. From his lips, to his nose, and those eyes.
I shook my head. Fuck, I was so out of the game.
“Hey”
I tried giving a kind smile. But, seeing my reflection through the window made me look like the cat from Alice in Wonderland.
The smile  immediately disappeared from my face.
“Hello” he said, he was on to my thought process. I knew it. He chuckled and I felt this electric shock inside me, and this time not from Menma tasing me by accident.
“You drink?” He asked, indicating to his glass.
“Yea, beer most times ” I said “but  I treat myself to some whiskey sometimes. When I have been good  at least”  he looked down at his glass again and smiled.
“I ordered this..But...I hate it” he admitted when he looked at me.  “I don’t want to waste my money. Do you want it?”
“For all I know you roofied it, dattebayo” I sat down on the stool next to his.
“Why would I do that?” He asked.
“Mankind has an dark side. It are those with a pretty face who do the worst things” I said.
“Is that why you accused me of trying to drug you?” He put  his elbow on the table before resting his head on his hand.
“I said those with a pretty face. Those with a gorgeous one are always out to harvest organs and sell them on the black market”
“What is your name?” He asked blunlty.
“Naruto” I answered.
“Naruto, I am lucky to inform you that there have been zero reports of people's organs gotten stolen” He said.
“That is because they don’t live to report that, dattebayo” I said. “But I will take it...If you let me buy you another drink”
“That is kind. However, I just discovered I don’t think alcohol tastes good”
“Just? Never had a drink before?” I pretended to be in shock, “Did you recently turn twenty-one?”  He looked away before turning his head back to me.  “You are not even twenty-one, are you?”
“You are not an officer. I hope”
“No….No,dattebayo” I wasn’t lying...I am detective….Aright, I was lying.
“I am turning twenty-one this Friday. I haven’t had a sip of alcohol before today” he whispered.
“Why the rush? Couldn't you wait a couple of days?” I wondered.
“Because...In my family there is this tradition. Where the father would buy his son the first drink...That drink being whisky. I didn’t want to be that son to.. Spit it out”  He shook his head.  “I am pathetic, aren’t I?”
“You ask an awful lot of question to a stranger”
I sighed and  looked at the bartender who seemed to be cleaning a few glasses no.
“Can I get some blue vodka and….Hnn I forgot” Whatever it was. It is not important anymore. I looked back at the pretty boy.
“What is your name anyway?” I asked him.
“Sasuke” he answered. I extended my hand to him and he shook it.
“Nice meeting you, Sasuke” I said getting the glass of blue vodka before shoving the glass towards him. “I promise I did not roofied it”
“Because handsome guy like you wouldn’t need to”  He checked me out before taking a sip. “It is not bad at all” he commented. I am not sure if he meant the drink or me.
“I know, dattebayo”  I muttered. Not sure what else to say.  “So, Sasuke...Tell  me something about yourself?”  I took a sip of whisky. I bet captain Uchiha would like this kind of whisky.
“I am biology major at the university of Konoha. Almost twenty-one and I enjoy cutting things open for research. I am actually working on my project where I used pig embryo’s to make human cells.”
“That is impressive”  Shit….Now I had to step up my game.
“What about you?”  He asked
“What the fuck, dude.  We have been waiting for the drinks since forever” I got pushed forward thanks to Menma shaking me. I spilled my drink before turning my head to him.
“Fuck off, bro” I hissed, grabbing a napkin to clean it up.
“Oh fuck, you taking the ten and leaving me with two eights?”Menma punched me in my shoulder. I had to shake him off, and fast.
“If you combine them both you get yourself a sixteen” Sasuke said. I'm surprised he tried to get rid of my brother. He might hate him at first sight or...He could sense my distress Either way...I wanted to buy him another drink.
“You are right...I will have a threeway” He wrapped his arm around me, “Naruto, a  threeway!”  He gasped.
“Good for you.  Go, order some drinks. Your chicks might get dehydrated” Sasuke commented, looking away from Menma. My brother whistled. I let my head hang. I hated him sometimes.
“Playing hard to get?” He leaned against the bar table, checking out Sasuke from top to bottom. He clicked his tongue, “You are fine-”
“Let me stop you there….You are only embarrassing yourself” Sasuke said, causing me to laugh.
“Fuck off, Menma. Go ride that tricycle you wanted so bad” I teased.
“Hey, you are smart right?” He asked Sasuke. He wrapped his arm around me again.  “Naruto here is marine biologist”
“Menma!” I hissed pushing his arm off me I didn’t know jack shit about being a marine biologist. ”What the fuck are you doing to me!” I hisse.
“I am making sure you are getting laid at his place. So I have the apartment to myself and two brunettes”
‘You two live together?” Sasuke seemed surprised.
“We are brothers” I answered, “twins”
“What? Can’t see the similarities?” Menma asked.
“Hu, I guess"  Sasuke took a sip of his drink, “I am into blonds. So it seems”
“Burn” I said causing Menma to groan.
“We  both have a huge cock, but I promise you, darling ,I can use mine better” he whispered the last part before leaving.
“I am sorry about that dick”I sighed. “He is a bit...Cocky”
Sasuke laughed at my play of words. It made me smile. He was the right combination of cute and sexy.
“So where were we?” Sasuke leaned in.
“At the part where I called you awesome” I leaned in so he could  kiss me. I had the feeling he was into me.  “Say Sasuke, what bring you here? You seem like such a good boy”
“I am”
I raised an eyebrow.
“Good at school, kind, gentle, follow rules and traditions...You parents raised you well”
“My dad..My mom passed away when I was ten” He said.
“I’m sorry” I meant what I said. I wasn’t expecting this.
“It is alright.  My dad works full-time and is very tired everyday. I felt like I wasn’t supposed to make life more difficult for him. So...I guess I was always the perfect son”
“You ate your vegetables-”
“I cooked” he corrected me.
“You didn’t make a mess-”
“I cleaned the house” he said. I don’t know why, but this somehow turned me on.
“You never smoked or did any drugs?”
He shook his head, confirming what I said.  I sat back in my stool.
“Girls?” I asked.
“Boys…” he mouthed.  I don’t know what sick pervertedness I had..But the neck in the back of my hair were standing up.
Maybe it was just the way talked?  It was hard to pinpoint my attraction at this point.
“Oh did daddy not get angry when he saw boys in your room?”
“No” he said.
“Were you that sneaky?” I asked him.
“No” he repeated his answer, “I....Never dated” he admitted.
“Really?” I didn't believe him. “You are daddy’s little boy….So...What are you doing at a bar this time a day?”
“Because..” he shook his head and tried to surpass a laugh, “I am having a quarter life crisis and I ..”
He leaned closer to me. “ and I just want to be naughty for a night”  he whispered, and  placed his hand on my knee, moving it up my thigh towards my crotch.
“Thuss the drinking?”  I questioned. I felt sort of  excited.
“And talking to strangers..” He whispered, his lips were close to mine.
“Kissing a stranger?” I wasn’t exactly sure what I was asking him, but all I wanted was to kiss him right now. But, I was afraid if I did that he would punch me in the nuts or something.
He didn’t give an answer. In fact, he demonstrated. He leaned in and kissed me on the lips. So, this hottie has never kissed, but he did leave me craving for me.
I leaned in so I could reconnect our lips, but he pressed his index fingers against my lips. I felt his hand on my crotch, causing me to look down.
I had a boner already?  Am I that lewd?
“Wanna go to the restroom?” He whispered.
“How does your place sound?” I suggested.
“Of course, but I live couple of blocks from here” he said.
“So?” I asked.
“I walked here...And I am not sure you want to walk around with this..Hard. Big. Cock in your pants”
“Fuck you are naughty”  I whispered. He stood up from the stool and grabbed my arm.
“I wanna be” He said, pulling me with him. Yes...I was certain that the entire bar knew what we were up to.
Inside the male restroom, he pushed me against the wall. His hands grabbed my collar and he kissed me. He very rough in it too. Speaking of good boys gone bad.
My hands groped his ass and I was not displeased with the package he had behind him. I couldn't wait to see him bend over, cheeks spread and my dick ramming inside of him.
Fuck, I am perverted.
He kissed my jawline, down my neck. He kneeled down, opening my belt before unzipping the zipper of my pants. I stuck my cock through the zipper and I swear his eyes sparkled...Or I was imagining it?
“There is a condom dispenser…”
He wrapped his hand around my cock. I was certain now that I did not imagine those sparkling eyes.
“W-what?” he looked up. His cheeks were  coloured red. I was hoping he wouldn’t chicken out of this right now because I was not going to jerk off in a bathroom stall….Again.
“Condom dispenser-”
“You got something?” He cocked his head. His eyes glued on my dick,
“No” Was it weird to be so  fascinated by the view of  a pretty boy licking his lips while looking at your dick?  “I figured...For you..A goody two shoe..”
He finally looked at me, staring right in my eyes before sticking his tongue out and licking the tip of my erection.
This guy...Fuck.I felt like I was in a porn..A good one too!
I looked at him taking the top in his mouth, moving his tongue over it while sucking. I bit down my lips. This was like a sex-dream I had when I was thirteen. He tried taking more into his mouth, but he was stuck half way. He moved his head back. He did very well for a virgin.
“I thought you never done this before”
I let my hand go through his hair, shoving his bangs away so I could see his lips around my dick. His pretty eyes looked right at me. He removed his mouth, allowing his hand to stroke me.
“I didn’t, but I am a biology major” he said before continuing. I bit down my lip and threw my head back, causing it to bump against the wall. I looked ahead of me.
We were not even in a restroom stall, we were not even in a corner. We were in plain sight for everyone to walk in. Sasuke could be  unaware of it...Should I be moving us to a stall? But I did not have the willpower to stop him. I was enjoying this way too much.
“Fuck , Sasuke-”  my hand grabbed the hair on the back of head. I moved his head so he would not only suck in the front. If I were going to do a one-night stand. I better make sure this virgin learns something from it.  I could heard him make some gagging sounds, but I kept moving his head to take more in. He ended up pulled back, wrapping a hand around his throat. He was panting. I guess he forgot he could breath through his nose. Some shitty biology major…
‘Babe?”
He looked up. Now, I felt guilty, looking in
“Sorry..You are ...Very big” He said, “I guess theory isn’t everything”
How could he be so cute and yet frustrating me so much.
“I wanna do this..” He wrapped his hand around my cock again.  “So don’t let me escape, alright?”
This guy surprised me….No...He shocked me.
“Alright”
I was not going to be  the idiot to complain if he asked me to throat fuck him.
“We should move to a stall. In case somebody has to pee” I suggested.  I guess my senses were getting back to me.
“Nah...Let them watch if they want to” he said. I was so lucky tonight. He put his pretty lips  around my cock again and this time...I was not going to give a fuck about him being new at this or not.
I allowed him to have his way before tightening my grap around his hair before  pushed his head over my cock.  I guess he was a quick student. I moved his head over my cock. I couldn’t close my eyes to enjoy the sensation. I wanted to enjoy the sight too. My dick in this pretty boy’s mouth was incredible. I wished I didn’t leave my phone in the car. I would have recorded it otherwise. I could see the door of the restroom open and I looked down at Sasuke before looking back up at the door.
I saw Menma. He looked surprised before his eyes turned jealous.  I was expecting him to walk away and let me have my moment, but he wanted to stardle Sasuke.
“Hey bro!” He raised his voice, but Sasuke didn’t seem to flinch. Either he was blacking out or he was ignoring Menma.
“Fuck off, Menma!” I wasn’t going to have the best sex of my life get ruined  by my jealous brother because he couldn’t have Sasuke.
“So while you get your dick sucked empty by this toilet hoe. I am gonna go home-”
I knew I should show concern about my brother going home alone and not with the brunettes he hoped for. But tonight...The world couldn’t end and I wouldn’t give a fuck.
“Yeah. Go!” I hissed. I could hear a ‘pop’ sound when Sasuke removed his mouth from the head of my dick. He turned his head to Menma. Some of my pre-cum sliding down from the corner of his lip, over his chin.
“Don’t wait up” he said.  I never saw my bro looking so regretful, jealous and hateful at once. He left rather pissed. I ran my hand down Sasuke’s hair, catching his attention again.
“Your brother is kinda annoying” he said. I couldn’t blame him. I lived with that for twenty-eight years now.
“Ignore him and ...Go back to sucking”
He looked up with a smirk and listened.
“Yes, sir” he said before taking my dick back inside his mouth. Now he got the complete hang off it. Such a quick learner.
My moans were currently filling the restroom. I guess that is the exact reason why nobody was coming in. I was feeling my orgasm coming and I had to admit..It had been a while since I got laid. But I felt I did pretty well for somebody who hadn’t actually fucked anyone the last two months.
“Baby, I am going to cum” I thought it was common currently to warn him up front. But he didn’t seem the stop. Didn’t  he hear me?
“Sasuke”
he looked at me. Oh~ he heard me alright. If he didn’t like my cum he could spit it out of his pretty mouth.  The idea of his mouth filled with my cum was actually driving me closer to the edge. I imagined him swallowing it, sucking my the tip to get every last bit of cum.
All the factors combined caused me to have by far greatest orgasm ever gotten from a blowjob.
I looked down. He didn’t move, some cum was dripping on the floor. That's when I realized my hand was still holding him by his hair. Fuck, I didn’t even allow him to back off. I know I'm supposed to let him go and apologize, but….I didn’t wanna.
“Swallow it”  I demanded. I was taking this too far...For all I know he got  scared to back off at this very moment. I saw him gulp down my cum. Much like in my fantasy, he was sucking every last bit  out of me. I let his hair go, stroking over the spot that I had been pulling for a while. He got up, wiping his mouth with the back of his hand. There was a short silin the restroom.
Did I make everything awkward with my perverted mind?
“Was it good?” He wrapped his arms around my neck. He seemed fine..Better than fine..He seemed fucking good.
“Very” I said, zipping my pants and putting my belt back on .
“How about we go to my place?” He asked.
“....Are you sure?”  I had to have him confirm it. I didn’t know him too well. It could be sarcasm for all I know.
“Yes, my father isn’t home tonight” he whispered.
“You want me to play daddy for one night?” I asked. He looked at me questionable...Did I say something wrong?
“Depends...Will you punish me for having been naughty?”
I covered his mouth with my hand. So he couldn't turn me on with his words. Damn,I should be marrying this guy.
“Sush~ before my dick hears you. He can be a real...Dick..”  I saw him grin at my joke...Which gave me this satisfied feeling.
