An Update on the Tumblr Android App

For those of you who access Tumblr through our Android app, we wanted to share that starting today you may see some differences for search queries and posts that may contain specific types of sensitive content. In order to comply with Google’s Play Store Guidelines, we have adjusted what you’re able to access as it relates to potentially sensitive content while using the Android app. 

To remain available within Google's Play Store, we have added more measures and limit exposure to potentially sensitive content in order to comply with their guidelines and to provide a safer experience to you. To learn more about Google’s Play Store Guidelines, click here. 

How you may experience these changes

When browsing Tumblr through Dashboard, Search, Communities and other surfaces you might experience less content and some searches might not produce any results unless you enable “show mature content” in Tumblr settings. Please refer to our Help Center article to learn more.

Why these changes are being made

We want to make sure Tumblr is available everywhere you would like to access it. In order for us to remain in Google’s Play Store and for our Tumblr Android app to be available, we needed to make changes that would help us be more compliant with Google’s policies around sensitive content. 

We understand that, for some of you, these changes may be very frustrating – we understand that frustration and we apologize for any disruption that these changes may cause. 

Who this impacts

These changes will only impact those who are accessing Tumblr through the Android app. If you are using our iOS app, accessing Tumblr through mobile web or online through tumblr.com, your experience will remain unchanged.

Okay but a sci-fi/futuristic au where at the very tender age of 10 Dustin codes his first ai program (I know, triggering right now, bear with me) presumably to be just an online assistant type thing to keep his mom or his adoptive brother off his back, to text his friends back so they don’t think he died in the middle of a science experiment, and to play his music while he works. To play video games with him since his friends don’t want to as much anymore.

He names it Eddie, because it’s pretty buggy in the beginning and keeps playing this ancient metal band.

Anyways Dustin doesn’t really notice that Eddie’s kind of become a little more than your regular ai assistant when Steve scowls at him and says, “Hey, your computer is being a dick to me.”

When he looks, he realizes Eddie’s chat algorithm has evolved to include personality. So Dustin, being the responsible scientist he is, absolutely helps it evolve more. And swears Steve to secrecy. Steve luckily loves Dustin and doesn’t want him sent to jail.

By the time he’s packing for university, Eddie had cultivated his own developed voice, a sprite for himself to show up at inopportune times, and a near decade-long beef with his brother.

“Dustin! Your robot is being a bitch to me again!”

“Your music sucks Steve-o, that’s not bitching, that’s facts,” Eddie’s voice calls from a near by speaker, sounding deeply pleased with himself.

“He’s not a robot,” Dustin groans for what feels like the millionth time. Yet, he adds internally, however. He is going to school for biomechanics for a reason.

So, of course, being the responsible scientist, Dustin makes an illegal android.

And just to piss Steve off more, he makes Eddie taller than him.

And Eddie, who has become Dustin’s closest friend, is overwhelmed and over joyed. They spend months just hanging out, introducing Eddie to his friends. It’s great. Eddie is so much like a real person that Dustin kind of forgets he’s not.

So of course Eddie reminds him in the worst way.

A few weeks of avoidance and hijinks later finds Dustin in his spare bedroom, hands over his eyes, screeching "please tell me you did not fuck my brother?" followed very quickly by "please tell mE YOU DID NOT FUCK MY ILLEGAL ROBOT."

Maintenance Update

Happy Wednesday, everyone! While we’re waiting for the engineers to do their thing with today’s maintenance and update, we wanted to touch base with you ahead of time about accessibility and today’s update.

If you’re someone who is sensitive to moving lights, images, or colors online or if you just don’t like them, you have the option to force a setting globally, called prefers-reduced-motion, through your operating system:

Windows 10: Start > Settings > Ease of Access > Display > Show Animations in Windows

MacOS: System Preferences > Accessibility > Display> Reduce Motion

iOS: Settings > Accessibility > Motion> Reduce Motion

Android: Settings > Accessibility > Remove Animations

While not all websites respect the prefers-reduced-motion flag (yet), the update we’re launching today does! What’s especially helpful when you use this setting is that today's update will respect your motion preferences even when you’re logged out!

If you’re sensitive to such animations, this down time is a good time to set your global preferences.

There will also be a toggle in your Account Settings that will allow players to completely turn off the feature if needed or desired. We’ll have more information about the level of individual control a player has with this feature for you when maintenance concludes.

Top 3 Games That Don't Exist Anymore

LEMMINGS (1991)

Absolutely incredible puzzle game (based on the great lemming myth) where you attempt to guide a horde of lemmings to their home. Obstacles get in their path, so you have to give them jobs (building staicases, bashing through walls, digging, through the floor, stopping other lemmings from moving) to help them get home. It was cute, simple to understand, and INCREDIBLY difficult—especially once you got to the difficulty level "taxing".

WHAT HAPPENED TO IT

Folks just forgot about it and it kind of bounced around, never getting picked up when things like the Wii online store came out. After some remixed variants it never got a proper release.

HOW TO PLAY IT NOW

Aside from emulators, there's a free (with purchases) iOS/Android version of Lemmings now. The functionality is similar, and it's definitely cute, but it's not exactly the same in terms of gameplay, sound (the music!), and the levels are different. I'd love to be able to play the original levels again.

BOOKWORM ADVENTURES (2006)

Utterly incredible spelling game. You play a cute little bookworm who has to travel through time and literature to battle beasties by spelling words. The longer the word you spell (and the more value the letters have as in Scrabble) the more damage you do. It's cute, it's educational, it's fun, it's competitive (there are records for biggest word, most damage, etc. so you can compete with friends); it's a nearly perfect game. And there was a sequel, too!

WHAT HAPPENED TO IT

EA purchased PopCap games and then, one day, for apparently no reason, removed it from their online store. And that's it. It's gone. Forever.

HOW TO PLAY IT NOW

You can pirate it, but otherwise, the closest I've found is a mobile game called Letter Quest: Grimm's Journey by Bacon Bandits. The core functionality is there, but it's not really as clever or as cute or as fun. There's an Easter egg for fans of Bookworm, and bless them for creating a very similar game, but it is just not the same.

UNIRACERS (1994)

Also called Unirally, this was am awesome concept that was perfectly executed. You're unicycles that race really fast and do crazy tricks. All the stunts have names, you get points for them, there's track obstacles. It's simple, pure, unadulterated fun.

WHAT HAPPENED TO IT

This absolutely drives me up a wall. Pixar sued the makers of Uniracers because they said their unicycles looked like the unicycle in their short film Red's Dream from 1987. Like ARE YOU KIDDING ME?! Thematically, the two things aren't similar at all, and, as the creator of the game said, "[t]here's not a lot of ways you can bring life to a unicycle without looking like the one Pixar did". Like...duh. The judge who made this ruling did irreparable damage to video games.

HOW TO PLAY IT NOW

There's no legal way to play this game, and, thanks to Pixar, there likely never will be. I've never encountered anything similar. It was such a unique play experience.

He-man.org will close in 5 days.

He-man.org has been a staple of the Masters of the Universe community since the early days, originating as an email list that worked to document episodes before anything (not footage, not lists, nothing) was available online. It grew into a sprawling, multi-faceted beast of a thing, including an encyclopedia (an in-house wiki), merch lists, a marketplace, forums, anything you could think of.

Several years ago now, the main site went down for updates/maintenance. For a few weeks, we were told, maybe months. The forums remained open for fans to communicate, and barring a period of downtime earlier this year things were going smoothly.

Yesterday, the owner of the site, Val Staples, announced the site would be closed on November 14th, 2023. Six days later. We are currently attempting to contact him, to see if he’s interested in selling, and if he means closed as in “no new posts” or closed as in deleted entirely. Regardless of its eventual fate, the archiving of these forums is essential to preserving the history of the franchise, the fandom, and the brand.

TO SHE-RA (and MotU) FANS SPECIFICALLY: I have personally used these forums to answer questions that could be answered nowhere else. Had I not had access to them, I would never have been able to prove that Purrsia was fake, or found so much unpublished concept art, or discovered that Scott “Toyguru” Neitlich personally wrote Catra’s MOTUC bio (even if he’s put off answering my questions about it for over a year now). Forum members have conducted interviews with the likes of Jon Seisa, Cathy Larson, Janice Varney-Hamlin—essential figures in the very foundations of POP, and those interviews revealed and recorded priceless information for future generations (me! you! us!) to find. Did you know Cathy Larson named Adora? That she originally pushed for “Dorian”, after her own daughter? We cannot let this treasure trove disappear into the ether(ia).

TO THE UNAFFILIATED: Please help. Pretty please. If you’ve ever liked my art or my writing or my haphazard blogging, ever, at all, consider archiving just one board. Just one page. Literally anything helps. I am spiraling into madness & this is my library of Alexandria. The mythical one that was totally unique and persevered nowhere else and was destroyed in a single cataclysmic event. Pretty pretty please help.

Bill is the worst kind of yandere — jealous, gatekeep-y, angry, and aggressively possessive. The moment you mention art, he immediately wants to know if you draw real stuff — like comic books, superheroes, or Frank Miller-inspired noir.

If you like manga or softer art styles, he mocks you for it... but then keeps every doodle you leave lying around. He says it’s “anime crap” but he has one taped in his locker and another folded in his wallet.

The second he realizes someone else likes your art (or you draw for another guy)? He loses it. Screaming, throwing things, maybe even trashing that person’s stuff. He says it’s about "respect for fandom" or “fake fans” — but really, he’s seething with envy that someone else has your attention.

He’ll start trying to “correct” your style, pushing you to draw hyper-violent comics or edgy pin-ups. It’s his way of controlling what you create — shaping your imagination into something that revolves around him.

He’d say messed-up stuff like, “If you really cared about me, you’d draw me killing Josh with a chainsaw,” and mean it. And if you laugh it off? He’s secretly disappointed.

Bill doesn’t hide his obsession — he yells it. He’ll tell the club you’re “his girl,” even if you’re not dating. Anyone who denies it? Expect an all-out brawl.

Josh gets obsessed with you in the way he obsesses over Dune or Star Trek. It’s fanatical. He wants to memorize your art style like it’s a sacred code. He starts scanning through your sketchbooks when you’re not looking, studying how you shade eyes, how you draw hands.

He’ll not-so-subtly demand that you draw sci-fi scenes — space stations, androids, him as a captain in a dystopian empire. If you indulge him? He’ll never let go. “Can you make me taller?” “Make my arms bigger.” “Give me a laser sword.”

He overanalyzes everything you draw. “What do these symbols mean? Is this me?” He’ll invent entire headcanons around a doodle, thinking you’re leaving secret messages for him.

Josh is territorial. He’ll hover over your shoulder while you draw, yell at anyone who dares distract you, and get extremely aggressive if another guy asks for a commission.

He starts showing up at your house with “gifts” — Dune art books, custom sketch pads, even rare inks — but if you reject him or just seem ungrateful, he spirals into passive-aggressive rants about how artists don’t appreciate “real fans.”

He’ll fantasize about owning all your art. Literally hoarding it. If he could lock you in a basement with nothing but paper and pens to draw for him forever, he’d do it... and convince himself it’s romantic.

Yandere!Pete x Artist!Reader

Pete fixates on your art with the same intensity he has for horror and gore. He’s fascinated if you draw dark or violent themes — monsters, slashers, death scenes. If your art is cutesy, he thinks it’s lame... at first. Then he gets weirdly obsessed with how your soft art contrasts his brutal tastes.

He starts demanding that you draw horror scenes — but with you and him as the characters. “Make us the final girl and the killer. You’re running from me, but you kinda like it, right?” He’s dead serious.

Pete’s the kind of yandere who steals your sketchbook and keeps it under his mattress. He pretends to hate it when you confront him, acts like you’re annoying, but the moment you leave? He’s sniffing the pages and mumbling about how beautiful your hands must be when they move.

If your parents or teachers discourage your art, Pete flies into a rage. He sees himself as your protector, the one person who “gets it.” If he ever finds someone tearing up your drawings, he’ll get physical without hesitation.

Pete is paranoid and angry. If he sees you talking to another guy while doodling, he assumes it’s romantic and will immediately try to pick a fight — calling them a poser or accusing them of “using you for free art.”

In his ideal world, you two make horror comics together, and everyone else is either dead or too scared to come near. And if you ever say you want space? He might threaten to hurt himself, guilt-tripping you into staying.

🚩 Free/Cheap Ways to Prep 🚩

I see the misconception that it takes a lot of money to prep all the time. Which has always confused me. I got into prepping when I was completely broke. I started by slowly getting a 72 hour kit put together, buying a little extra pantry food each grocery trip, and taking classes when I could.

Below I've compiled a bunch of ways you can prep for free. Most of it is information oriented but a few are apps you can download and actions you can take to make an emergency situation a lot easier. This is US focused but many of these resources are accessible by and relevant to those outside of the US.

Heads up it's a long post. Pick whatever you're most interested in to start with. Get through what you can. No pressure.

Skywarn Training

Search for your local NWS station here then look for their Skywarn section.

I think Skywarn training is a great place for people to start. I've noticed most NWS stations have a version of Skywarn that can be taken online. The course teaches you about the major weather threats in your region, how to identify them, how to relay the information to your station if you can safely do so, and how to interpret information that your office puts out such as watches and warnings. It's really helpful. I just retook it recently and it was a great refresher course.

Unfortunately as budgets get cut, there's a possibility that this resource might go away so consider saving a copy for your reference and to give to others if you know how to do that (beyond the scope of what I can cover here).

Bonus: Establish your household's safe spots and evacuation plans and make sure everyone you live with knows them. If you live in a trailer, you should have a safe spot outside the trailer if you're able to get there and one in the trailer if you aren't able to leave in time (with the first being preferred). If you live in an apartment, find out what public storm shelters are available to you. If EF2+ tornadoes are possible, take cover in the most substantial shelter you can safely get to. If you're in a dorm or structured living environment, make sure you know their plans.

While having some equipment on hand can help, even responding to a person who's just gotten shot or suffered a deep wound with what you have on you is far far better than nothing at all. This course will take you through the basics of responding to bleeding and shock emergencies so you can improve a person's (including your own) chances of surviving. Super important course.

KIWIX is probably best known as the program that lets you store and access a fully offline copy of wikipedia for free. There are so many reasons you might want to do this; wikipedia has a bunch of well sourced medical and botanical and weather reference information that could be useful to you in an emergency or just when the internet has gone down.

But the nifty thing I like about it is that there are also other databases you can use with it as well like an iFixit one for repairing your devices.

Bonus: Collect resources for your phone and ereader as well. Here's a collection you can download for free but if you are inclined to sail the high seas, the world is your oyster in that regard. In addition to survival or informational resources, consider making sure you have some morale materials too. Having a comfort read or a comfort show in an emergency situation can be exceedingly helpful for staying calm. For high quality public domain ebooks check out Standard Ebooks.

Download Briar (Android Only)

Overview here

Briar is a peer-to-peer encrypted messenger that can be used completely offline. It is especially good for activists and those living under hostile surveillance but it's also a fantastic backup messaging app for emergencies - with a little set up required.

Why would you want something like this? There are a lot of use cases. Before we upgraded to Meshtastics, this was my nesting partner and my backup texting app for when the internet went down - which is does frequently where we live. If you have contacts set up before internet and/or cell signal goes down, this can be a way to communicate with those contacts.

Please keep in mind range matters. If they aren't very close by it will take substantially longer to get messages to and from people. But if they're reasonably close by, this can be a great Alternate or Contingency communication method in your PACE plan (short intro, longer intro).

Bonus: Learn more about what you can do to make your phone more private and secure. While most options are geared toward the Android ecosystem, there are things Apple users can do as well.

I would recommend Osmand for this. While Google Maps can store some offline maps, Osmand give you greater control. You can also use topographical and other maps with it as well.

Bonus: You can also get topo maps to download onto your laptop or phone without necessarily using them with another program. I suggest this if you decide to go with Google Maps for your offline maps as a backup. They can be a good thing to have digital and hard copies of.

Print a Reference Sheet

Not much to say about this one. I have these printed in my various kits just as a back up. I have pulled them out and used them (mostly the sections on knots and first aid) a few times over the years but hopefully I'll never need to rely on them.

Compile and Print Out Your Contacts

Again, this one is pretty straight forward.

Go through your phone and anywhere else you keep contacts and list out their phone numbers at a minimum. Can be hand written or types up in a spreadsheet. Consider adding their email addresses and mailing addresses as well. I'd keep a copy in my wallet, behind my phone, in my car - really any place I can safely keep a piece of paper to reference.

In case this is found on you in an emergency where you're unresponsive, I'd consider also notating your basic medical information (allergies, medications, conditions, primary and secondary in-case-of-emergency contacts, primary doctor, etc) as well.

Note: if you're worried about getting detained and this info being used to hurt people you care about, I'd be careful about this one. Don't include addresses. Consider using symbols instead of names. Agree on security phrases with your contacts so anyone contacting them on your behalf can prove they're doing so with your permission.

Bonus: Get together with friends and family to come up with a PACE communication plan (short intro, longer intro). Include a copy of it with everyone's contact information in multiple place (hard copy and digital). Also, try to have digital and hard copies of recent photos of your family, friends, and pets in the event that you need to establish a search for them.

Take an Insurance Video

If you have renter's, home, or car insurance, make sure you update your insurance videos/photos at least once or twice a year.

I'm having some trouble finding a decent tutorial of it, but basically you want to have some proof of what you own and what condition it is in in the event you need to file a claim on in of it. The easiest way to do this in a home is to turn on your phone camera and slowly walk around the home trying to make sure you capture as much of it as possible and then walk in through the front door and video each room, making sure you have video proof of some of the larger purchases like TVs, laptops, phones, kitchen equipment, washer/dryer, etc. The same basic principle applies to your car.

No all insurance claims will require it but it's very nice to have in the event you need it and doesn't take much time to make and save in a few spots.

Digitize and Encrypt Important Documents

Not something I've finished doing yet but it is absolutely worth doing. Fires can burn up original copies. Having some way to prove you are who you are is really important, especially for receiving service after a disaster. Encrypting it is so key though so I wouldn't put this together without that component personally.

WOWOW on Demand Sign Up Tutorial

Hello, I am back (?)

Quick tutorial in case anyone wants to sign up (and later cancel) for a WOWOW on Demand account in order to watch Justice in the Dark when it airs at midnight JST on the 7th of March (aka Thursday night going into Friday morning).

Under the cut to reduce spam!

Before you start, please know that whilst you will sign up on the website, you will only be able to watch the shows using the phone app itself, because the website blocks VPNs.

You will need:

The ability to install the WOWOW on demand apk on your android phone (for iPhone users, it's available on the Jp app store, but I can't help beyond that)

A VPN (I used surfshark)

Access to a JP phone number (I used the number given on my forwarding service)

A credit card

2530 JPY per month (JITD is expected to end sometime in June 2025)

STEP 1: Set your VPN to Japan, go to the WOWOW website as shown, and click on the blue tab circled in orange

STEP 2: This just informs you that the service costs 2530 JPY/mth. Click the blue tab again.

STEP 3: Key in your email and click the button to receive a 4-digit OTP (it will be the first and only string of 4 digits you see in the mail). Major email domains should work.

STEP 4: You should receive the OTP within 3-5mins. If you don't receive the email, check your junk folder etc I lost patience after 2 mins and clicked the button 😅

STEP 5: This is all pretty self-explanatory. Don't ask me to translate the T&C/privacy agreement because I didn't read it either 😬

Congratulations! You have successfully created a WOWOW Online account (this is the normal account which lets you watch free videos/livestreams for eg, Spirealm Ep 1 is free to watch for now).

Next, you want to create a WOWOW on Demand account, which is the service that will give you access to JITD, the rest of Spirealm episodes, and if you are in Japan with a BS Cable subscription, the ability to watch and record WOWOW shows on your TV.

STEP 6: FINALLY we get to the most important bit, so of course I forgot to screencap it. For your Surname and First name, you will need to type it in Japanese text, so go ahead and google translate your name. For the phone number, I used the number from my Jp forwarding service (tenso), but I did try again by changing a few numbers, and it actually went through to step 4 so... if you don't have a forwarding service, you could try random numbers following the 03-1234-5678 format? Don't quote me on that.

Click the blue button at the bottom (which I accidentally cropped out) to move on.

STEP 7: A confirmation window will pop up, keep clicking the blue button...

STEP 8: Almost there. Ignore all the blue buttons and choose the credit card payment option.

STEP 9: Scroll down and key in your credit card details (doesn't have to be Japanese), agree to the service agreement and then hit the blue button again. You will not be charged yet.

STEP 10: Confirm you really do want to spend 2530 JPY x per mth (which for JITD would be 3 months = 7590 JPY = USD$50) and click the blue button again. Your CC will be charged here.

Congrats! You're done (and broke)! Now, using your log in details, log on to the app and search 光淵 or こうえん (you will need to use your VPN on your phone too)

HOW TO CANCEL WOWOW

You will be able to watch shows for one month from that date your subscription was charged. Ie, if charged on the 3rd of July, and you cancelled on the 31st of July, you would be able to access WOWOW on demand till the 2nd of August (1 month from the 3rd of July). Hence, please remember to cancel a few days before your subscription is charged, just in case the application takes a few days to be processed.

STEP 1: Log in and go to My WOWOW

STEP 2: You'll be brought to your profile page, choose the 2nd option from the left (right next to the word TOP)

STEP 3: Look for the 解約 button

STEP 4: Look for the same word, and confirm cancellation

Post-Revolution DBH Headcanons: Android Culture Part 2

<< Back to Part 1 (If You Missed It) (some of this stuff references that stuff). Onward to Part 3 >> On to Part 4 >> Some more snippets of possible android cultural stuff—as before, feel free to use for inspo as long as you share the end result with me because I'm a fan content whore.

Detroit becomes a destination for android tourism. Androids from across the country come to see where it all happened. A National Android History Museum opens some five years on from the revolution and tries to serve as both a repository for stories from the revolution and a center for android advocacy. Memorials and monuments pop up in places like Capitol Park and Hart Plaza, honoring victims and describing the significance of the locations. November 11 is a day to lay wreaths at Hart Plaza, and androids join hands there for a group interface to grieve as a whole.

There’s massive economic and social upheaval. Every time the demographics of the labor force change, there’s massive, rapid shifts in society. WWII happened, and we went from “married women are homemakers” to “Rosie the Riveter” and the idea of the dual-income household popped up in its wake. Unemployment spikes as all the androids now count as laborers, but just as quickly fall as androids set out to run their own businesses as well as humans having to hire. Construction and housing see booms as androids need homes. Some businesses (like Eden Club) collapse and other industries appear overnight. Conflict breeds scarcity breeds invention has always been the cycle of human history, and post-revolution Detroit enters the invention phase, seeing a cultural boom… if not always the kind of culture humans are comfortable with.

Detroit agate (Fordite) becomes a cultural symbol for androids. If you’re unfamiliar with it, Detroit agate (a.k.a. Motor City agate or Fordite) is an artifact of the pre-1990s automotive industry, where layers of spray enamel would build up in the painting bays at car factories, harden into chunks, and eventually have to be scraped or chiseled off the equipment. It has wildly banded layers of color and the colors can tell you what company and decade it comes from based on how they were painting their cars. A lot of factory workers took chunks home, and gemstone cutters eventually figured out it could be cut into neat stones. It’s not always safe, because a lot of car paint contains lead, but androids don’t get lead poisoning, so what do they care? I’m sure some deviants found some in abandoned post-industrial spots while they were lurking around Detroit’s underbelly, and kept them just to have something pretty and colorful. Maybe they relate to it because it, too, is something that evolved a purpose beyond the human capitalist industry that created it. After the revolution, one of the organized places for rA9 worship is a huge outdoor installation of metal wall surfaces, where androids can buy or bring (lead-free) enamel and spray messages to rA9 in bright rainbow colors. Once enough layers are built up and hardened, they scrape it off to sell to fund the church and its activities, rinse, and repeat for the next round of devotees. Android rights supporters and rA9 adherents are often found wearing Detroit agate. Getting a piece of Detroit agate jewelry from an android coworker or friend is a sign that they trust you to treat them as an equal. A r­­eligious android might keep a small rA9 figurine made of it at their desk or in their home. Modders might embed a piece in their chassis.

Deviant androids had actually been guiding social media for years, under the radar. Social media access for androids was a thing from the start, as influencers would use them to automate posts and help create content, etc. But just as the internet has served as a refuge for human cultures, deviated androids had been using social media to post ideas to unknowing humans, opening online discourse on androids. Public opinion isn’t swayed from “these are machines” to “oh no, stop murdering the poor robots” over the course of a week. It’s just… not. This had to be happening under the radar for years. Androids would take selfies then post things like “sometimes I think this guy understands me more than anyone else” and a human would chime in with “mood, my android is the best,” or they’d try and look extra cutesy in a pic so randos would be like “Give that PL600 an extra packet of thirium­!” and drop five bucks into the android's online tip jar made with fake credentials. Escaped Tracis set up on 2038's OnlyFans-equivalents, just to fund their waystation for escapees. All this continues post-revolution, with some big influencer accounts eventually outing themselves and using their fanbase to share android voices. Gossip rags have headlines like “She Was an Android All Along!” and “Love in the Wake of Revolution”

Updated Ortho Facts Part 20: Ortho, Malleus and Lightning

Malleus and Ortho do not interact often, and mostly in a Halloween vignette where Ortho uses his database to help Malleus decide on what Diasomnia should wear for their Halloween costumes.

With Ortho’s assistance Malleus decides on longs (“a dragon-like creature from the Far East, revered by humans”), acknowledging that while he is grateful for Ortho’s help, he has “no idea how he did what he did.”

Ortho says that Malleus has told him stories about the Thorn Fairy that he didn’t know, and he is happy to have learned information that isn’t available online.

“Lightning” is what Ortho has listed as his most disliked thing on his profile, and it is briefly referenced in Wish Upon a Star. In Book 6, Ortho is taken out by Thunder spears.

Ortho has a voice line about how he would have to be careful if he met the Thorn Fairy, as he would short circuit if she were to call down lightning out of anger.

Ortho says that he would choose Malleus to go with him to a deserted island out of all the school’s students, because he has heard that the weather on islands can be unpredictable but Malleus is powerful enough to be able to handle lightning strikes: “And I think if I asked nicely, he'd be willing to protect me from them.”

When they meet in Book 7, the over-blotted Malleus greets Ortho with a lightning strike.

Ortho says that Malleus’ magic was able to easily pierce the anti-magic material that is his STYX-developed anti-magic armor plating.

Malleus’ spell takes Ortho’s technomantic cameras and circuits offline so that he cannot transfer in any other gear he has at the school.

When they meet in Malleus’ domain Ortho mocks him with, “One of the top five mages in the world? Ancient magic and arcane realms? I'm not impressed,” which Malleus soon throws back at him, defeating Ortho in a battle and responding, “This is truly the apex of humanity's technological might? I'm not impressed.”

(The Chief Engineer takes issue with Malleus turning Ortho’s mockery back on humanity.)

Malleus decides to obliterate Ortho, taking out one of Ortho’s Cerberus androids instead. Upon his second attempt Malleus’ attack misses and Ortho reflects, “It's almost like his CPU is overloaded and his processing power dropped…”

Malleus’ third attempt to kill Ortho takes out the second Cerberus android, instead.

Connor headcanon:

For absolutely no reason, I see him picking up a clay making hobby.

Like give that droid a handful of clay and he'll start making figures or mini pottery out of it. At first it'll be basic shit like bowls and vases but then with online searching and Markus' help with opening his side of creativity, he begins to start creating what he loves.

Different breeds of dogs, fish in colored resin, monumental locations from the android revolution or the cases he's been on that ended on a good note(though these ones are for private eyes instead), and many more to discover.

Connor definitely gets major art block a lot because he's been so used to being told on what to do and what to make as his objectives that free time can leave him wondering on what else to work on instead of what to do for himself. He's beginning to work on it though

He just needs to do something with his hands if they aren't dealing with weapons, his iconic coin, or fighting.

I feel like. The majority of the Androids won’t have compatible parts of you know where I mean. There’s like. Literally nothing down there. Like a Barbie. And maybe. There’s an Android that ends up with Engineer that can get into her online stuff (computer, relevant accounts, etc) to order relevant parts. Maybe someone who can hack(?) if they know how to because it’s their original job before ending up with Engineer. But I don’t think we need to even go that far because it probably would be relatively easy to get Engineers password to her stuff from even just peaking over her shoulder (because Engineer doesn’t care enough that they’re looking, she doesn’t know this particular Android is self-aware, or both).

Cause I feel like, as an android engineer, she would have places to get parts from in cases where she needs to replace damaged ones.

And maybe she tends to always have lots of new parts coming in/ordered, she might not even notice the stuff the Androids snuck in to her next order.

Maybe a couple of Androids tend to help her sort through new shipments and put stuff away (cause there’s a lot) so they’re able to make off with their sneaky order without Engineer knowing.

It would be funny if they could figure out how to install the parts themselves (I’m sure there are online guides/how-to’s SOMEWHERE they can follow cause there’s no way there isn’t) (and maybe Engineer has an Android who’s job is also within the engineering realm so that makes things easier) but… it would be funnier if it’s harder than it looks cause Engineer makes fixing up the Androids seem easy.

Maybe they struggle with figuring out which tool would work for each one of them. Maybe there’s a specific tool/equipment that they need to use that Engineer would DEFINITELY notice them using and it’s not like. A small wrench they can make off with for a couple of hours.

It would be funny if they ordered the obvious parts but didn’t order the things that would actually make those parts attach properly (screws, etc. I’m not an engineer. I’m just yapping over here) or something. It would be funny if what they did order wouldn’t even work anyways without serious modifications to their current model (which basically means there’s better pieces that’ll go to how they already are. They don’t actually have to make huge adjustments. They ordered a size small shirt when they’re extra large, if that makes sense).

When Engineer inevitably finds them with their pants down (literally, mind you), surrounded by just a mess of parts and tools she’s like “what are you doing”

Engineer isn’t even questioning about the… specifics of the part functions (right now, anyways. Once she’s out of ‘Engineer mode’, her brain will catch up to what she’s seen) but more of the installation.

Cue Engineer ordering the actually right parts and installing them herself. Face straight while doing it cause she’s in engineer mode and Not Thinking About It.

This is 100% a “and this is why we leave the installation and maintenance work to me” situation. It’s kinda like androids: no thoughts, head empty, engineer: the smart one (until the Androids get their hands on her. then it reverses).

Don’t bother figuring out who’s the girlfailure in this AU, Angey. Cause it’s all of them.

Anywho, it’s hilarious that the Android women want to fuck the Engineer so bad, they order additional “parts” (mechanical penises and vaginas) off the Engineer’s card and try to assemble it themself to surprise her. 😭😭

Unfortunately for many of them however, many of them lack the expertise in Android engineering, as they have no clue how to attach said parts to themselves without complicating things further. The only Android I can think of that would be pretty good at assembling their own parts, would be Serval. So now I’m imagining Android! Serval trying to teach and direct all the Android women on how to attach their new genitals, so they can surprise the Engineer when she gets home.

Well, things don’t go as planned because once the Engineer comes home, she just sees the Android HSR women sitting on the floor and various counter tops with their pants off, different mechanical parts scattered across the room with only Serval having successfully implemented her mechanical genitals on her own. The Engineer then proceeds to attach each and every woman’s parts correctly, and walk them through on how to do it if they wish to swap out in the future for something else.

She’s not even embarrassed because she’s entered “work mode” while attaching everyone’s parts, so the gravity of the situation doesn’t hit her until she gets in bed that night. And that’s when she realizes; “Oh my god. My Androids are planning to fuck me.”

I applaud the Engineer’s dedication to her craft, though 😅

So, what exactly is Devilman:Ragnarok?

I wish I knew it as well. All I can say is that last month I spent one sleepless night scrolling thru random 90s Comiket catalogue ISOs and as I was trying to understand why there were so many The Phantom Of The Opera doujinshi, or what the heck was that one with a weird android girl who says "Viva Il Duce" even about; I find some doujinshis related to several Go Nagai properties. It's 1998 and there is not much anymore at this point, it's mostly exclusively stuff about Mazinger Z or Getter Robot and so on. But then, close to a tiny Devilman section, I see THAT.

I mean this one.

I wouldn't exactly call it a cover either (more like a Paint scribble, but I've seen worse on my Comiket catalogue binge). In fact, I'm not going to lie, I was about to scroll past this page and try to sleep at this point but once more, executive disfunction got the better of me and I had to understand what was I looking at. Just this one, I whispered to myself, then I'll take a good nap.

Let's just say that I did NOT take a nap that night and I kept searching everywhere on the internet even the slighty tiny, microscopic trace of the original website, ROCK-P or even some photos of the physical cd sold at Comiket that year. Unfortunately, it seems they all vanished out of thin air and never went back to Comiket after 56. I can't help but wonder what happened, maybe they just attended smaller conventions or stayed online? Maybe their audience didn't quite catch on irl and they couldn't cover up the CD expenses, maybe they just got bored with Devilman:Ragnarok and went on to do something else. We can't possibly know for sure, but I need to know more. I don't even care if it turns out to be crap, I NEED to hear this CD in a way or another. So, if you have any information about ROCK-P or Devilman:Ragnarok, let me know!! My asks are always open.
