IN THIS SCENE...⁣
⁣-Ryan Stanger is fully responsible for this scene. On another shoot day before this, Ryan had mentioned that he had done a ton of research on sex addiction (which is what his character is dealing with) and had this idea for a moment where he calls his sponsor. We loved the idea but had no time to write it. Since we had to shoot his conversation with Angela anyway, and knowing he is a high-end improviser, we had him improv several tales. The entirety of this scene is made up on the spot.⁣
⁣-This ended up being one of our favorite scenes and essential to the story, so we’re forever grateful to Ryan for bringing it to life.⁣
-The photobooth photos are actual photos taken at an actual photobooth at the actual bar where we shot the bar stuff between them.
⁣-Frodo is the only one who gets a scene from his point of view, other than Angela.⁣
⁣-This scene is hugely important in not only fleshing out Frodo but also giving him a bit of a point of view. This character and his actions are fairly problematic, it’s thanks to this scene and Ryan’s performance that Frodo works at all.⁣

TAKE BACK THE NIGHT - Review
DISTRIBUTOR: Dark Sky Films
Tumblr media
SYNOPSIS:  Jane is a visual artist with a checkered past. Making her way home after her gallery showing she becomes the victim of a violent monster attack. With little being done by the authorities,, Jane launches a vigilante campaign to hunt the beast that tried to kill her. Jane’s efforts intensify, but her troubling history of drug use and mental illness bubbles to the surface causing her family, community, and authorities to question the authenticity of her account. Suddenly alone in her fight, Jane starts to doubt her own memory of the attack, and even though she begins to pull back the veil on the mystery of her attacker, she still has doubts if Monster exists at all.
REVIEW: Filmmakers Gia Elliot and Emma Fitzpatrick are a dynamic filmmaking team that employ the horror genre to address the real life issues of assault and abuse. They create a myth that allows them to focus on the victim and fashion an allegory that illuminates the victim’s experience.
Emma Fitzpatrick’s narrative stings. The intensity of the visual and implied violence is so intense, and the main character’s journey so emotional, that one wonders if Fitzpatrick is drawing on a personal trauma or that of someone close to her. There are elements woven into the plot and character that provide the viewer with a sense of the frustration and pain that goes into what it must be like to deal with this traumatic experience. They distinctly show how the characters' past can become an impediment to the authorities in dealing with the actual crime. The story evolves and Jane is empowered to fight back. Even though she is given some vindication, as can happen in real life, she is perceived as the aggressor. It is impressive how the supernatural elements never overshadow the important elements and message of the film. The narrative keeps the viewer off balance, never quite sure in what direction it is going. Like excellent genre entertainment it skews reality slightly so we can examine the human condition in a different way, thereby finding a new or profound appreciation.
This is a fantastic ensemble cast, led by Emma Fitzpatrick. Fitzpatrick gives a multifaceted and passionate performance that engages the viewer. You feel the character’s pain and frustration, as well as her determination to be heard and fight back. I would go so far as to suggest that her performance was the catalyst that allowed the cast to elevate their performances. They feel organic, drawn from a well of authentic emotions. As the film moves into the supernatural realm, the performances seamlessly incorporate these elements together that validate the trauma of the events. The cast presents an authentic representation of how people might deal with these deep emotions. Again, a great ensemble cast.
The production values are gritty, raw, and, at times, shocking. They’re not exploitative and capture the injuries Jane sustained. In the editing of the flashback scenes there is a nice balance between what we see and Jane’s memories. The locations are interesting, the costumes perfect for the characters. I thought the creature designs were interesting and creepy. The editing is dynamic and the framing compelling. Overall, impressive for an independent film.
An important plot point of TAKE BACK THE NIGHT is all these women who use social media to validate Jane’s story as they reveal their own. It feels like a revolution, and I feel TAKE BACK THE NIGHT is the start of an uprising. These female filmmakers have seized the genre to put forth an emotional tale that will hopefully awaken an awareness in many genre fans who don’t have a clue behind what many of these women face when dealing with abuse. It is a “me too” horror movie that left me feeling that it should be all of us who need to stand up and support all the people who deal with this in trying to find justice, and that we need to know the whole story before we form an opinion on a matter. Most of all we need to support these people as trauma is trauma, and it is their experience not ours. TAKE BACK THE NIGHT shows the power of the horror genre at its finest.

IN THIS SCENE...⁣
⁣-When @gulnatron and @yuribaranovsky first sat down to write this script, they agreed on one thing: be brutally honest. That means brutally honest in the comedy and brutally honest in the drama - we wanted to show what this was really like, not dance around it. ⁣
⁣This scene does just that — this is the reality of a bulimic, it’s boring, rote, violent, gross and absolutely terrible. And yeah, maybe a tiny bit funny in a fucked up way. ⁣
⁣-This scene was really uncomfortable to film. It was a tiny bathroom, Yuri was directing from the bathtub which he was crammed into with Justin (the DP) and the boom operator, and it was HOT. Angela was chewing up food and spitting it out while making fake throwing up noises, and the combination of all of it was making everyone (aside from Angela) very queasy. It’s still hard for Yuri to watch this scene without getting a touch nauseated.⁣
⁣-The song playing is called Gimme, Gimme by @themotsnouveaux. @emmaleefitz, the lead singer, is a dear friend of Angela and Yuri and you should go listen to, and buy their music immediately!⁣
⁣-We liked the song because of the juxtaposition between the purging and the peppiness. Somehow, it makes it feel commonplace - which, of course, it was for Angela.⁣
⁣-One of the stories Angela told Yuri was that she would often park herself in the bathroom with episodes of Friends and a bunch of snacks and have a binge/purge cycle. While this scene isn’t quite that, we still wanted to capture the idea that Angela has done and continues to do this so much, it’s routine — which is sad and horrible in its own right.⁣
⁣-The phone call that stops her mid-vomit is the funny beat in an otherwise dark scene that’s intended to show the absurdity of the entire thing.⁣

человек ест значительно быстрее, чем обычно;
человек ест до тех пор, пока ему не становится физически некомфортно;
человек ест много, вне зависимости от того, голоден он или нет;
человек ест в одиночестве, поскольку ему стыдно за то, сколько он ест;
FoodBodyLove Rally - FREE
FoodBodyLove Rally – FREE
In our appearance-focused culture, it is all to common for people to experience intense shame, anger and sadness around body-image and food. Fad diets, calorie counting and obsessively tracking weight are often used as attempts to control dark and highly critical thoughts and feelings. A portion of us will develop serious Eating Disorders and most of us will struggle at some points with…
