On that note though - I'm absolutely obsessed with the bit "he’s got an expression of scrunched-nose focus on his face that looks, for some reason, incorrect—like it’s not how his face actually looks when he’s concentrating, but the emotion underneath is the same. because like! YES! That's EXACTLY it!! Kaito LOOKS like he's super expressive, emoting with his whole face and body, and then you just - get punched in the face when you realise, OH, he feels like neither him nor anyone could ever get out of the shadow his dad casts, OH, he DOES remember the clock tower meeting, this whole ringmarole was to save it, OH, he was trying to get Aoko to act more natural, OH, he was playing the fool at billiards (I GENUINELY doubted for a moment whether he Actually sucked at billiards or just cheated for the poetic justice)

It's a bit sad, to be honest, that Kaito can never put his masks down no matter what face he's wearing - even if it is his own. He said he's a fan of Lupin but imho he'd do well to reread the first book - there is a line there about disguises and ceasing to know yourself Kaito would do well to remember, bc I very much he's taking the time to rest, eat and become himself again between disguise and disguise.

I won’t get into all of it now but Gosh I think so much about expressions. kaito appears to be an extremely expressive character, and it’s not that he Isn’t, but more that it’s Very intentional, like you’re saying—he’s a magician, he lives for misdirection, he’s always misdirecting and deflecting and reflecting.

moments like these Haunt Me!! he’s very clearly Being Kaito, enough that everyone around him believes him, but he’s also just… totally lying, in every single image. I really really want to capture the energy of these panels in writing and art, lol

LIKE. how good of an acting job did he do here that he managed to convince aoko that he didn’t want to see a magic show. lol.

THE POOL CHAPTER I think about that all the time. what an establishing moment for kaito. first of all because of what it reveals about how he is

the way he is portrayed when he starts winning in this chapter is Very interesting, because I feel like it comes across as kaito more,,, like,,, settling into the role. he’s not really actively trying to do anything, he’s following what he most naturally wants to do, which is somewhere between “be silly so that people don’t look too closely” and “I’d really like to see the people around me laugh and be happy.” once he starts being able to Perform, he succeeds. and yet we as the audience are still left doubting what really happened!!! kaito misdirects the audience just as much as any of the mk characters!

oooo I really need to read the arsene lupin books. but like YEAH! EXACTLY! kaito never really made space for himself to Not be acting. the closest he gets is with Jii, and maybe his mom. relevant to my OTHER ramble about how, in deciding to become kid, kaito ended up creating a character out of himself, a character that he Has To Be most of the time. and it’s WILD, because it’s a version of himself that’s fundamentally missing a lot of who he is, but nothing that anyone would actually know to miss.

Oh the number of shoujo and BL mangas I have read with this exact premise is countless. It took every fiber in my body to not include this in the story. Not because it's bad or I don't like it (cuz I do), but I didn't want that story to go that route (at least not this particular fic).

But I was contemplating a scene in the fic where Katsuya jokes about it precisely because he has seen anime (or more likely read some ecchi manga 👀), saying he's glad Jii-chan didn't do anything weird/reckless like offer Shizuka's hand in marriage to Seto. Seto brushes it off and says he wouldn't have accepted. Her "disposition" is not to his taste, even if she was sweet. Katsuya asks what "disposition" is to Seto's taste and Seto just stares at him for a beat too long.

It doesn't really move the plot along though, and I don't want to give the impression I'm scoffing at that plot device, so it will probably not make it into the fic.

(I know I have it as two chapters on AO3 right now, but that's just my denial because it's probably closer to 4 chapters *weeps into my verboseness*)

SMALL SPOON KAITO! When sleeping in the same bed together, Kaito either sleeps on top of Akiren or beside him getting hugged by Akiren!

If Kaito ever got around to telling Akiren bout his Kaito KID persona, Akiren will help provide some tools too! If only Kaito can just share secrets already...

I reeeaaalllyyy wanna write it someday, but Kaito comforting Akiren after the whole problem with the police got resolved. Akiren definitely got some Trauma from being treated LIKE THAT by the Wretched police.

Kaito is gonna be quite petty with the p5 cops when doing heists there cuz of that. His playfulness with them is lower now so they better be prepared to get humiliated more!

Likewise, Akiren comforting Kaito when things got too much for him. What with the whole Kaito KID problems and the fact that he so desperately wanna keep that secret to his grave. Both of them might not know each other's secrets, but that doesn't mean they aint gonna comfort one another!

Between the two of them, Akiren is more likely to share his secret identity with Kaito. He just doesn't know how to go about!

Holding hands publicly <3 Scandalous!

When hanging out together, Kaito loves pulling Akiren wherever so they're almost always holding hands. Not that Akiren minds, he likes the warmth from Kaito's hand :3

Dates <3 Once they become an official couple, they'd always make time for dates at least once a week.

Kaito becoming comfy enough with Akiren to tell him bout his phobia <3 Also Akiren making sure to keep any fish products and such away from Kaito. Aquarium dates are out of the question, but not to worry, there's other locations!

Kaito riding a rollercoaster: "This reminded me of a time a bomb nearly went off on one!" Akiren: "A what--"

Akiren entering a castle attraction: jokingly "At least this castle doesn't have a sex dungeon." Kaito: "WHAT?!"

Anyway yeah, Jokid going to a themepark and says out of pocket things based off of the insanity that is their double life.

Oh also! Kaito subtly and vaguely helping Akiren with heists via advices and also, acting help :3 Honestly though, even without them outrightly saying their secrets, they can Feel It. So it's just gonna be a game of two idiots subtly and vaguely helping each other while stepping over the giant wall of SECRETS they both refuse to tell the other. Well, Kaito refuses to tell other to be more accurate.

Due to the fact that Kaito's KID identity has more grounds in the real world and Akiren's Joker identity is in a metaverse. In a way, Kaito both feels that he shouldn't endanger Akiren and that he shouldn't burden him any more than he thinks Akiren already has. Oh, self-esteem issues.

In a way Akiren has similar issues too, it's just that he has an emotional support animal (Morgana) and group (Phantom Thieves) that helps him deal with that. Kaito is unfortunately alone with the only help he got is from Jii until Akiren appeared.

ANNNDD that's all I can think of at the moment! I know there's more though cuz I looooove jokid and I need to start thinking bout them again, jokid <3 Thank you anon for enabling my insanity over a crossover ship!

15) If you write OC’s, how do you decide on their names?

This is an interesting one and it has a long answer, because I also write original fiction aside from fanfic!

Usually I try to think first what vibes the character gives me. Then I kinda just start saying syllables at random out loud (yes I look ridiculous when I do that), until I like the sound of something. Then I do my research on google, to see what real names look like with those sounds, and then I look a lil bit onto the meaning and those things. 

Other times, the names just appear in my brain at random yaknow? like i’ll know the character’s name before knowing anything else about them.

Also for the a well loved copy fic, I wrote it while I was reading Before the Coffee Gets Cold, and I really liked the names in the book so I used some names from it, and Yume’s name was suggested by @seventh-line.

Could I request a scenario where Jiro and his s/o have been hanging out for the entire day and Jiro notices that they have nicknames(?) for Saburo and Ichiro (Sabu-chan and Ichi-kun), but not Jiro…💔 So when the two of them are in his room, Jiro asks them (in a sulky way) why he doesn't have one they go like "I’m sorry, but it's cause the only thing I can think of is 'Jii-chan’….And I can't call my own boyfriend grandpa because it’s too funny!!"

Something was up with your boyfriend, he had a little pout on his face. His brows were furrowed in a way that you knew he was thinking about something. As much as you wanted to ask him what was wrong, the other two brothers were occupying your attention. 

The four of you were hanging out in the Buster Bros apartment playing video games. You brought your Switch over so naturally the four of you could play Mario Kart thanks to your extra controller.

“Sabu-chan!!!” You protested as Saburo as Toad raced past you. “No fair!”

Saburo merely stuck his tongue out continued to play. 

“Maybe you should play better.” Ichiro chuckled, the man currently in first place and very relaxed despite it being 200 cc, the hardest level in Mario Kart. 

“Ichi-kun.” You pouted, trying to do your best, even if you were currently in 6th place. 

“Jiroooooooo!” You complained, glancing up at your boyfriend. “Let me winnn.” 

“Nah.” Jiro said with a tone of something you couldn’t put your finger on it. 

You huffed, knowing your boyfriend well enough, he had some sort of problem with you. However, you couldn’t deal with it at the moment and there was no way that you were going to ruin Saburo’s game time with you.

Two games and two loses later, you decided to drag Jiro outside to buy some things from the nearest convenience store. There was no way you were waiting any longer to talk to him about 

“Why?” Jiro asked as you practically pulled him off the couch. He wrinkled his nose. “You can do it yourself.” 

Now, this laziness is characteristic of your boyfriend, but knowing how he was acting a while ago, you figured something was wrong.

“Come on, Jiro!” You sighed and pulled him out the door. “We’ll just get snacks!” 

Ichrio and Saburo shouted their orders as you two walked out the door. 

It was a silent walk on the way to the convenience store only punctuated by a few sighs from Jiro and a little mumble you couldn’t catch wind of. You wondered if he was throwing some kind of tantrum and you thought hard about what you might have done to upset him that way.

 When the two of you arrived in front of it, you made him stop walking. “Ok.” You said and put your hands on your hips. “What is it?”

Jiro huffed and pouted, turning his head away like a child. “Nothing.”

You felt your eyebrow twitch. “Jiro.” You controlled your annoyance, as much as you wanted to throw a tantrum, you knew you weren’t going to get anywhere if you did. “Ji. Ro.” You sighed. “Look, I… I’m sorry if I did something ok? I just, I have no idea what I did.” You calmed down a little and Jiro turned to look at you. “I don’t want you to be upset.” You continued. “Just… please tell me what I did.” 

Jiro then suddenly turns red and groans, covering his face in his hands. “Now you’re acting so damn apologetic I feel bad.” 

You cock your head to the side, confused. “Huh?”

“Its….” He paused and then slapped his cheeks. “Ok!” He looked at you and then screamed into his hands again and mumbled something.

“What?” You asked, holding back your laughter, your initial worry disappearing. It wasn’t a big thing after all. 

“WhydoNii-sanandSaburohavenicknamesandIdon’t.” Jiro said it so quickly that the words melted together. However, you understood the whole thing. He then crossed his arms. “Ichi-kun and Sabu-chan.” He huffed as if remembering he was supposed to be throwing a tantrum. “Why don’t I have one?”

You then doubled over laughing. 

“H-Heeeeeeeey!” Jiro pouted. “Stooooooooop laughing!!!!”

You managed to pull yourself together after a while and then wiped the tears in your eyes to look at your blushing boyfriend. “Jiro, I can’t call you Jii-chan can I? You’re not my grandpa!!!!” You laughed again and this time Jiro joined you, repeating the word “Jii-chan!” 

When the two of you finally got over it, you pulled Jiro into a hug. “Haaaaa.” You sighed. “I’m just happy its nothing serious.” You giggled and grab his hand. “Come on, Jii-chan, let’s get your brothers drinks.”

Jiro laughed and allowed himself to be dragged inside the conbini.
