I've always encapsulated Akutagawa's character and his beauty as being something along "pretty/inconspicuous at first, monstrous upon closer look," trope. Something something about him being the complete opposite of Rashomon (weak, frail, pretty vs strong, powerful and durable and mostly, terrifying to look at) which add onto that pretty/monstrous dynamic, because rashomon is everything he is not but wants to be. He's pretty the way a spider is pretty--all strange and long limbed, scary, and creepy to everyone else except the few people that can tolerate them longer than a few seconds. Sometimes, people are uncessarily cruel to spiders that way, too, whether or not they've done something wrong or not. He is often the spider crushed under someone's foot until it explodes, me thinks.

I don't know what I'm trying to get at here. This isn't disagreeing with you cause I think ugly describes a lot of aspects of akutagawa from his personality, insecurities, and his life (maybe not his appearance, tho, but that might just be me staring at his tiny waist and not his redflags). I also just think that man is pretty especially in the panels where he is at his most unhinged (like the where he smiles at Kyouka during the cannibalism arc). him looking like a corpse is also why I would willingly court him (thanks nagito for helping me discover my taste in men) I just may have bad taste. Banger analysis tho.

I REALLY can see the simile with spiders– it's brilliant!!! It's such a fitting comparison. That's exactly why Atsushi can still love him. The observation on Rashomon being everything Akutagawa isn't is so incredibly spot on too!!! I have barely anything to add, this makes such an extraordinary and suitable description of Akutagawa. I really can't understand thinking of Akutagawa as pretty– but like, in the fun “it's amusing how peoples' brains all work differently” way!! I am baffled at the concept of that cannibalism panel being taken as example for Akutagawa being pretty: that panel is so so many things to me, but pretty is certainly not one of them. I feel that panel strongly!! After all, it's one of the very rare Akutagawa smiling panels, it's a panel I've studied up close in the past. And I, too, love it in a way: that panel is so many things. It's terrifying, at first look. It's creepy, unsettling, distressing. Then it honestly and unexpectedly starts feeling kind of endearing. His eyes are big and sparkling, he almost looks like a child who just arrived to the playground– a very creepy and unsettling child, but still. It makes Akutagawa look very young. It is a very scary, unsettling expression, but after looking at it for a while, one grows to understand that it's a moment of Akutagawa experiencing pure, sheer and honest happiness. which you come to realize is something he doesn't get to have very often. And his very happiness is dark and twisted, just like he is; but isn't it somehow still endearing to see him display such a genuine and honest emotion, for once? The fact that the only way for him to express it results deeply horrifying is only all the more emblematic of Akutagawa's character, of how even something as pure and uncorrupted as happiness will result terrifying on him. It ultimately makes him kind of pitiful, too, which I guess is another strong component of Akutagawa's character. (Note, I'm leaving aside considerations on Harukawa's art style, which honestly ends up resulting elegant and enjoyable to look at no matter who they're portraying.)

Like, if I had to choose one panel of Akutagawa being pretty it'd be... Well‚ the only chapter 88 panel that matters, c'mon– at the price of coming off as lame, but how else could I. Is there anything more pretty, more pure‚ more sacred than sacrifice itself? But really, that still stands in support of my case of Akutagawa not being pretty, because chapter 88 Akutagawa is the least Akutagawa he's ever been in the whole manga, if you know what I mean.

Okay so when it comes to Beyond Birthday ships, one of my favorite things is him finding little pieces of A in the people he likes. However, with that all being said, I actually don't see Matsuda as being incredibly similar to A (personal A headcanons and all that), so I'd like to think that BB grasps on to some of those little things he can find that reminds him of A, but he also...actually has to get to know Matsuda

With that all being said, because of how far removed they are physically in canon, I generally headcanon their meeting to be something by chance. In a canon setting for example, perhaps they happen to cross paths on the street or in a shop or cafe because BB is tracking L and Matsuda is out (most likely to do something for L, or perhaps related to his brief manager duties). Or maybe they even meet in task force headquarters, because Matsuda just so happens to be the first person B runs into

Idk I guess to sum it up best, I think their first meeting would undoubtedly be one of chance (be at least somewhat L related), and I think while BB upon growing feelings would draw similarities between him and A he would ultimately realize how different they are

It's like the idea of "What if we were strangers? What if we didn't know each other because you aren't a mirror of me? What if we actually had to learn to know each other?" with a sprinkle of "I couldn't help but latch onto the ways you remind me of the person I once loved, but I know you are NOT them"

Funnily enough, if I had to draw a thread between these two ships, it would be that Beyondtsuda share the capacity to bond over L and Mikamatsu share the capacity to bond over Light. Dunno why that trope has me in a chokehold. Anyhow

I like to think that Matsuda would have visited Mikami in prison (in the manga canon setting) before Mikami "mysteriously died"

The Kira reveal was a *lot* for the two of them in different ways, and given how they were narratively placed as opposites ("the man Light chooses as his most devoted pawn and could successfully rely on, who only knows Light as Kira the god" vs "The man Light thought would swing to his side, who he thought he may be able to rely on in the end, who knew Light as Light Yagami the man, son of Soichiro Yagami and L's only friend"), I quite like the idea of them...wondering what it was like for the other

I like the idea of Matsuda being curious despite everything, unwilling to really write the man he'd trusted off as wholly bad and seeking to know the man that Mikami knew. And Mikami, while yellow box and the shock of his "god"'s apparent humanity leads him to grapple over the idea of 'renouncing the false god' or possibly even twisting truth for the sake of his own mind (so he doesn’t have to contend with his actions possibly servicing "bad"), I think at heart he too would be curious as to the Light that Matsuda knew. Ultimately, I would headcanon their first real meeting, their getting to know each other, as a tragedy. No matter how close they manage to grow, whether they are open to or even can understand each other, in the end Mikami will die

Now, on a less angsty (but still a bit so) note. One of my favorite headcanons is the idea of them becoming roommates post L's death during the timeskip. It's just hilarious to me to imagine Gevanni investigating Matsuda's roommate, and it's fun to imagine how they would be as roommates. Ultimately, I actually headcanon that Matsuda can decently cook, so I think it would be interesting for them to start out as roommates who barely interact, but then become the kind of roommates who collaborate on dinner and teach each other different skills and air out some of their frustrations. I also think it adds even a tad bit more complexity to Matsuda's own feelings about Kira if he's stuck between a rock (Mikami clearly being a Kira supporter) and a hard place (being a part of the Kira task force, which is full of quite a lot of heavy anti Kira people). And while I think it's more realistic that they would grow some manner of feelings for each other (not necessarily ones they can pinpoint as romantic or sexual at this time, but not exactly platonic either) but any realization of feelings would be overshadowed by their current duties/goals and their separate devotion to Light (and their own feelings for him), I think it's also fun to imagine them as sort of a...roommates with benefits situation

Okay okay now for something a lil silly

I personally headcanon Mikami as aroaspec but also gay, but I think it would be insanely funny if Teru Mikami just found himself at a random time completely down bad for Touta Matsuda. Like, while he's not 100% sure of the nature of any of his feelings nor do I think he takes the time to think about this, at least him being down bad for kami-sama makes sense to him, but when it happens regarding Matsuda? I think he would just think in his head randomly "Why him? Kira is someone whom I respect and adore, someone who I feel a connection to. Why can't I stop thinking about this dude??"

call me crazy but i feel like osamu likes being a bachelor who also loves kids, so the minute he hears he's going to be an uncle, he absolutely looses his mind because hes so excited :(

HEY WOW YOURE SO RIGHT-

Like Atsumu is so excited to tell his brother that he’s going to be an uncle, it takes everything in his power to not say anything every time he sees Osamu (which is like. Every other day come on now) until the tiny, colorful Vans’ shoes come in, and he can wrap them up with the pregnancy test. Just so happens that the shoes come just two weeks before their shared birthday, and he literally has to avoid Osamu to avoid word vomiting about the tiny human on the way.

But the night of their birthday, it’s their mom, some close friends, you, osamu and atsumu, and it’s quiet and intimate and when it’s finally time for cake and cards, Atsumu smiles innocently as he plops a colorfully wrapped present on the table, and osamu looks up from his cake with a scowl. “I thought we agreed no gifts,” he grumbles, clearly embarrassed that he absolutely did not get his brother a gift. Atsumu shrugs, “I know ya good for it.”

“I don’t want it.”

“Yeah, you do,” Atsumu promises, using one finger to push the box closer to him. “Come on- from me and the better half. Open it.”

And Osamu’s eyes flick between his brother, you, then to his mom and a few of his friends, who are just grinning back because they already know and they’re just so excited for the reveal, before he sighs in annoyance, grabbing the box and tearing the wrapping off of it, a confused brow quirking high on his head when he sees the teeny tiny shoebox, and he looks at his brother, “uh.. don’t think these’ll fit me, dude.”

Atsumu offers his brother a deadpanned look, “maybe your gift is inside the box, dickhead.” And Osamu scoffs and shakes his head, mumbling a soft “dumbass,” before he flips up the top, and his large grey eyes glaze the contents. His eyes widen in realization, and large hands tighten their grip on the cardboard, the colorful tiny shoes contrasting greatly against the brown of the box, but his eyes just repeatedly look over the 3 positive pregnancy tests that lay on the shoes. Atsumu rests his chin on his palm, still smiling dopily as Osamu’s head turns to Atsumu. “This ain’t funny, ‘Tsumu.”

“Good, ‘cause I’m not tryna be.”

“Atsumu-“

“You like the color of the shoes though?”

“ARE YOU SERIOUS?”

The blonde twin stands up to hug his still blind-sided brother, “hope you like your gift, ‘cause we’re not returning it.”

And at this point, a smile finally starts to splay over Osamu’s face, grey eyes contrasting against the reddening of his sclera’s as he rises and absolutely squeezes his brother in a hug, breathless with a swirling mind as he still tries to grasp his brothers gift. “You’re gonna be an uncle, bro,” Atsumu whispers, ecstatic about Osamu’s reaction. The usual big, tough Osamu tucks his face in Atsumu’s neck to try and hide his crying, but his heaving shoulders aren’t fooling anyone, and Atsumu just smacks him on the back in comfort.

“Thank you,” he whimpers, and when Atsumu turns to look at you, his face is dropped in pure surprise and he mouths a “oh my god!” to everyone in the room.

Finally Atsumu pulls away and says “go hug my better half, what’re ya doin?” and when Osamu’s teary eyes find yours, he’s laughing to see you recording him, he’s just so excited he’s nearly vibrating. He stalks over to you, pulling you in a ridiculously tight hug around your shoulders. “This is the best gift I’ve ever gotten,” he sniffles against you. Then, you feel him smile, “she’s already got me wrapped around her finger.”

You chuckle back and plant a kiss his temple, “she?”

When he pulls back, his grin is spread wide over his cheeks and the tear tracks shine against the light, “I just know she’s gonna be a princess.”

So, disclaimer before I go into the silliness: I don't discuss actors' personal lives or participate in gossip. All my jokes and unhinged behavior are based on their roles or how they interact with fans (like at cons).

If people follow me they may have seen this post before. The simple answer is majestic. My bestie and I deemed it so in 2013.

If I were to answer in more detail it would be difficult for me to do so outside of his acting. Thinking about Daemon's or Eleven's makes me feel less... uneasy? My bestie and I were making jokes because that's what we all do. I don't judge people who are more comfortable with that (if it's all in good fun). Not saying it has never crossed my mind, but beyond that exchange and a couple more like it over the years, all of which were brief and in private, I honestly don't think about Matt's so much as Daemon's or Eleven's, etc.
