Ingo remembers - wanted to play with Ingo getting his memories back while in Hisui, will likely end up being a simple reunion story but nothing wrong with that i think

Ingos back instantly - Emmet POV of Ingo returning from Hisui at the moment he left, post-hisui healing type thing, might be less of a oneshot and more of a few chapters updated daily type situation but we'll see

Mechi has gained a new psylink level and picked up the "Enchant Quality" psycast along with it. While he may be skeptical of the scientific backing of such powers, he can't argue with the results!

A zebra went crazy, which I'm sure would have been an issue if we were planning to leave the base anytime soon. please ignore the sorry excuse for a zebra. I was distracted playing bg3 while I was drawing it

I think he likes his little reading nook. I wonder what fascinating things he's reading about?

... Ah, well... I'm sure he'll find a way to use that someday. Maybe. Probably not.

Finally, we were offered this quest to let The Empire test some weapons on us for a little over four days. All of these rewards could be useful.

Mechi can always use gold for his technology, and having the favour of The Empire might help us in finding the Archonexus in the future.

Alternatively, a tornado generator sounds like it could help us turn the tide of any battles that look to be going against us with just one colonist and a handful of mechanoids to hold the line.

Mechi would leap at the chance to gain new knowledge, especially if it meant he could do it without talking to anybody. For reference, his social skill is the only one he's absolutely useless at.

Or we could deny the quest and tell The Empire we want no part of their weapons test. What do we think, everyone?

WIP Whenever/Last Line/Six Sentences/Music Monday

So, since John's little art project won the poll vote, naturally that's what I'll post... (John really said I'm about to be the funniest mf around Hope County, & then did a DIY scarification on Willa's back... Slight tw for very brief descriptions of a scarification piece)

With the steam from the bath keeping her from catching a chill, she turns away from the mirror. Sucking in a deep breath, she turns her head to look over her shoulder. The air in her lungs slips from her lips as if her soul was departing her body. A mixture of hot rage and nausea swirl in her chest. There were no words for her back except mutilated. That bastard had carved away at her flesh and left behind a mark that would never fade, not even with time.

John's little art project covered the expanse of her upper back and even stretched out across her shoulder blades. In the center of the design, a near perfect circle had been carved out. Surrounding it, strips of flesh had been peeled away, revealing the deep crimson color that lay beneath the epidermis. There was no mistaking the design on her back, as she'd seen it plenty of times both before and after the helicopter crash. Every peggie, vehicle they used and outfit they wore, flag and banner hung up, even most buildings she'd come across sported the same logo: Project at Eden's Gate. Fury coils itself around her heart like barbed wire. Her fists, bare without her gloves, clench so tight that her nails begin to dig into her palms. Deep-seated, white hot anger contorts her face into an expression of rage. Her lips pull up into a snarl, her teeth gnash together, and her eyebrows furrow. "That fucker… that motherfucker!" Her hand reaches over her shoulder, fingers angled in a claw-like motion, tempted to tear into the wound that John had spent so many hours perfecting. Her hand trembles in hesitation before tangling itself into her hair instead, digging at her scalp and tugging her hair until a stinging sensation stops her. Her feet turn away from the mirror and carry her from one side of the bathroom to the other. Rage vibrates inside of her with no way to escape. The room felt too hot, too small, too quiet. Even the smallest drop of water falling from the faucet into the full bath made her irate. Jaw still clenched and motions jerky, she makes her way over to the bath and tightens the knob. The dripping ceases. Her anger does not.

The plane ride from New York to California had been nothing short of both agonizing and euphoric. So when the plane had landed and they got the all clear to leave, she'd elbowed her way through the crowd and hustled out of the airport. The warm California air was a refreshing change from the bitter cold she'd grown accustomed to, but Los Angeles was not her end destination. If (Trevor) ever decided to look for her—which she knew he was likely to—she had to get further away. A few hours later, she's leaning up against the rough brick wall of a gas station, eyes closed in pure bliss as the cloying smoke of her recently purchased Djarum Blacks flow into her lungs. Reluctantly pulling the cigarette away from her mouth, she slowly exhales the smoke, already itching to take another drag. She can't remember the last time she'd had one. (Trevor) had once told her he didn't like her little habit, that the smell of them and the sight of her smoking nauseated him. After that, she started smoking them in secret, but covering the scent from his keen nose was easier said than done and when he caught her smoking… Well it wasn’t a night she’d soon forget. Taking the occasional drag now and again, she walks toward the sidewalk and holds a hand up, hailing a taxi as it approaches. When it slows to a stop beside her, she opens the door and slides in, setting her duffel bag on her lap. "Where to, miss?" "Santa Carla." "You got it."

Poll time for y'all, though this one isn't directly story related. Writing the waking up drabbles and the 2k special was a lot of fun, and helped snap me out of my writer's block. And they also got me thinking.

I know a lot of authors have Patreon or Kofi for their projects, and I was wondering if that's something people would be interested in for TLS? As in, paid monthly extra content/early access to game updates?

Disclaimer that this is not in any way an announcement or even a fully formed idea. I don't know for sure if it's something I'd want to do, especially if there isn't actually an audience for it.

Open marriage

The Doctor's wedding to Marilyn Monroe occurs in A Christmas Carol, when he storms off to a chapel with lipstick marks on his face. “I’ll just go and get married then, shall I? See how you like that. Marilyn? Get your coat!”

While he wasn't yet with River then, he maintains this relationship afterwards, apparently with River involved. In the mini-episode Good Night, the Doctor enters the TARDIS with a euphonium, calling over his shoulder, “River! I’ll see you later! Tell Marilyn she’s too late, she’ll have to use the biplane. Take care!”

Another piece of evidence comes from The Wedding of River Song, when they're passive-aggressively flirting.

“Hallucinogenic lipstick. Works wonders on President Kennedy. And Cleopatra was a real pushover.” “I always thought so.” “She mentioned you.” “What did she say?” “Put down that gun.” “Did you?” “Eventually.” “Oh, they're flirting. Do I have to watch this?” (from Kovarian)

I've never understood the innuendo (please tell me what I'm missing), but Kovarian does, and as we know from The Husbands of River Song, the Doctor and River are both married to Cleopatra, so… it's definitely something.

There's also that diary page in The Eternity Clock game that suggests the Doctor, River, and Jim the Fish got blackout drunk at karaoke night and started “some sort of religion of love” which went on to last for centuries.

Serial cheaters

“How can you be engaged, in a manner of speaking?” The Doctor is jealous in Flesh and Stone before he's even kissed her, which doesn't set him up as a person who'd be interested in an open marriage.

“No, wait. That's your husband? That's who you're married to? Not anybody else?” In The Husbands of River Song, the Doctor is clearly not expecting the other husbands. Culminating in the same episode…

“So, King Hydroflax?” “Oh, how many times? I married the diamond!” “So you say.” “Elizabeth the First!” “Ramone!” “Marilyn Monroe!” “Stephen Fry!” “Cleopatra!” “Same thing!”

It appears he is well aware of her other spouses (and that she's aware of his); so perhaps his surprise was more that didn't expect her to be so flagrant about them. It makes him insecure (“I posed as his nurse. Took me a week.” “To fall in love?” “It's the easiest lie you can tell a man. They'll automatically believe any story they're the hero of.”) enough to start an argument about it.

River also expresses her jealousy as an obvious fact, as seen in The Day of the Doctor Novelization (written by Moffat who (along with Alex!!) knows the character best):

“Ow!” “Madame de Pompadour?” “Jealous?” “Of course I’m jealous. Keep your hands off her.”

In The Name of the Doctor, we learn that the Doctor, who has had a number of... sexually-charged moments with Clara (including, but not limited to, Victorian Clara), has avoided telling her that River is his wife. Vastra is uncomfortable with having to introduce them, having “gone a darker shade of green.”

“The Doctor might have mentioned me?” “Oh, yeah. Oh yeah, of course he has. Professor Song! Sorry, it's just I never realized you were a woman.” (from Clara)

Actually both

This could mean many things (i.e. open marriage with boundaries which are violated), but potentially, all the same evidence from prior arguments! With a shade of “Our lives are back to front.”

In the mini-episodes First Night/Last Night, when River, having burst into the TARDIS and pretended to faint, mistakes her past self for another woman the Doctor's hiding from her, she openly expresses jealousy.

“Doctor. Have you brought someone else here? Does anyone agree to wear that dress? Where is she!” “River, think it through!” “This happened the last time we were here. You brought someone else!” “No I didn’t!” “Yes you did, I heard you talking to her!”

However, when a third and significantly older version of River makes the same mistake, she no longer expresses jealousy, but rather curiosity, which could at least signal a shift in how she sees their marriage.

Maybe there was a conversation that happened. Maybe it slipped the Doctor's mind when he forgot Clara.

Actually neither

This could also mean multiple things, but one of those things is this. The Doctor is a widower from the start. Likewise, River is well aware of Doctor's death on Trenzalore, “of course River would know, she's always known,” having been raised to prevent those events, and having refused to be bound by that destiny.

How can fidelity be defined the same way for time travelers? Everyone's spouses are dead somewhen. River understands the paradox of her husband's existence better than anyone. To quote The Day of the Doctor Novelization yet again…

‘Because you live in a time machine. All of history is still happening outside those doors. On a good night that means everyone you ever met is still alive and you can’t wait to see them again. On a bad night, it means everyone’s dead, and you want to charge around the universe, pretending you can do something about that.’ She looked up at me. ‘I know which version of you I prefer.’ 

And there she was, so alive again. I remembered her, twisted, burnt and dead, in the depths of The Library. ‘What if there are people who died because of me?’ I asked. ‘What if there are people I should have saved?’

‘People die. All people, everywhere. We grieve and we move on. That is how we respect the dead. That is how we forgive ourselves in their presence and their absence.’
