I'm a big fan of the way that Gabriel Urbina often includes details within the Wolf 359 scripts that can't be directly translated into audio, for example: the "tears silently streaming down [Minkowski's] face" in Ep31 Securité; Eiffel being "wrapped up in a blanket" when telling Lovelace about his traumatic experience of feeling like he was turning into Minkowski in Ep32 Controlled Demolition; the way "Hera and Eiffel stand together, his arm around her shoulder" when confronting Pryce in the finale; the idea that Eiffel "salutes" Minkowski after his speech to her before the memory wipe... These details make reading the scripts an even more rewarding experience.
But I do think there's an interesting question here about to what extent these details are canon. After all, when changes have been made in the dialogue between the script and the final recording, I only consider the dialogue that actually ended up in the episode to be canon, although the version in the script might still provide interesting insights. But with details in the scripts that are inherently not audible - and therefore never intended to be literally included in the episode itself - should we consider them to be canon, or bonus content, or Word of God, or simply a tool used in the recording process?
I know that it is possible to have an entirely full experience of the show without ever reading a single bit of the scripts. The scripts are placed in the 'Extras' area of the show website.
Obviously the primary purpose of the non-auditory script details is to inform the actors in their performances, and perhaps provide some considerations for sound design. When I read the scripts, I can often feel how the non-auditory script directions are reflected in the feel of the voice acting.
But once I've noticed these script directions, I also can't help having them feed into my experience of the scene when listening, in a way that enriches the experience beyond purely the audio, and informs my understanding of these moments. The script directions tell us more about what the writer was envisioning for a scene.
I love sharing the script directions that feel significant to me, and when I do so, I feel like I'm sharing something more significant than a behind-the-scenes tidbit. I feel like I'm sharing further knowledge of what happened in that scene. The script directions feel like a true part of the show to me, more so than the comments the writers and actors have made in Q&As. To me, these non-auditory bits of the scripts feel like canon, but a slightly lesser form of canon than the episodes themselves. But I don't know if I can fully justify this view. I'd be interested to hear other people's thoughts.

Personal headcanon: Only Dick’s siblings & very closest friends can make jokes about his name without it bothering him. Oh, he’ll smile, he’ll laugh, he’ll take it in stride, but it does bother him. The difference is those people he’s okay with have all laid someone out flat with a single punch & zero hesitation for doing the same.
Their teasing is loving. They’ve all called eachother much worse affectionately, and he knows they associate his name more with exasperating affection than actual insults. Nobody else gets to say that.

People who hate Gale for being toxic but then love and excuse all of the vampire’s behavior like??????
I don’t get how some people can hate Gale so much but then to also put the walking red flag on a pedestal is so... Like WHAT

I got mad about how genuinely pretentious and condescending people on here about things that honestly don't even matter that much and so I went oh I know and I went to a mutual in law's blog because I KNOW they have the exact same views as me on them but they articulate them so much better and bam I got like six posts in a row of excellent compassionate measured responses to the very mean-spirited and meaninglessly cruel culture on here surrounding 'anti-intellectualism' and also calling people virgins in a derogatory way. like thanks! gotta jet
#man I wish our interests overlapped more *salutes*#breaking point was someone reposting a meme celebrating thinking of fanon hcs to flesh out an underdeveloped character#and commenting it like 'wow I know this was a YA or anime' like you're just being a dick at this point. who is this hurting#I would have agreed with the og meme! not every character is well developed due to various constraints or the role they have#sometimes you get attached to stories with shallow characters but you love it anyway and you wanna develop them#ppl thinking up new material for them and having a good time is not the Death of Art you all are so nasty to others#like I fail to see the appeal in mocking that and this is coming FROM a hater#but there are so many ppl on here that are so needlessly judgemental and smug and self-righteous about having Correct Media Literacy#and like...I'm not going to say anyone should stop bc im not the website police but you're all so mean#I don't even have a stake in most of this I just don't think it's worth it to be cruel to other ppl over and I don't like ppl acting better#than others bc it's not like being into literature or like. 'highbrow' media is a moral imperative/morally good. it's just what you're into#the world exists outside of literature and plenty of people with trashy tastes have strengths and skills you couldn't even imagine#and even if they don't! having bad taste or being a bit stupid about media isn't a moral failing!#a woman I work with reads the court of thorns books for fun and she is a kinder and better and more skilled and intelligent person#than I will ever be. she has a stressful and very high-impact job and it's how she relaxes. it's fine. it's fine#cor.txt

#the PROBLEM is. some properties I like I cannot even talk about my Criticisms™ because if I do it attracts people whose side I am NOT on#like in the case of a certain british procedural show adopting old mystery novels that went on hiatus a lot. I did not like season 4.#but that is not because The Ship didn't go canon and it CERTAINLY wasn't because I never thought any of the show was good in#the first place. and I don't like The Main Ship of the c-chibs era but it's because the way it was written was VERY much not for me.#it's not because I think the whole era is trash (that ship was really the ONLY part of it I didn't like I loved everything else)#I DO have beef with some of the choices in season 8 of The Gritty Deconstruction Fantasy Show but they sure weren't ANY of the issues#that anyone else had!!! and I don't think it retroactively ruined the whole show actually!!!!!#like it's just so frustrating. especially since sometimes I DO want to break down what I consider to be unfortunate writing choices.#and I DO want to complain sometimes! but so much of the discussion around various properties is taken up by me just.#trying to explain that I'm allowed to like it in the first place and defending why I don't think it's Unconditionally Bad#so I can't ever like. for example. discuss the deaths in 8x03 and my issues with THOSE as character endpoints#or why they killed mary and had her husband act terribly to her for no reason just before she died#or how shitty it was in the last era for me to see ANOTHER character be mentally ill but in the most unobtrusive palatable way possible#(and then also make that really weird comment about a previous love interest??? who WAS unpalatable in many ways--though not like.#canonically mentally ill. even if I and many other people are drawn to that interpretation.)#perHAPS I want to talk about my confusion over the story's handling of j/d for reasons that are not 'I hate these characters' or#'that's pRoBLeMaTiC and you shouldn't ship it because that's pRoBLeMaTiC'#maybe I WILL just make a 4-hour video essay unpacking all my Thoughts™ on that show. because people don't have to watch it!#they could just hit the back button!

I already mentioned this on my twitter before but thought I just wanna add it here lol so if any of you guys followed my art ig, you might notice that I closed off all of my replies, comments and dms and that's because I keep getting unwarranted dms but more importantly there is this one person on insta that i think is a bit....odd.
So there's this person that keeps following and then unfollowing me either hours or days later. Normally I won't notice this because I don't check on people's profile but the reason I remember this is because this person tried reaching to me before. Basically they said they were glad they found someone that likes professor and starts dumping to me about how they likes him ever since they were a kid and then they're married to Utonium.
First of all, yes, I am totally fine with sharing. But you have to agree with me that saying "Oh you like the fictional character that I liked? Thats so cool omg btw we are married before you know him" as if you are claiming that character first is weird. And second, I barely talk about my selfship, I only post my art. At least if you want to talk to me, don't open with something like "I'm Utonium's wife." Like ???? That is weird are you trying to assert dominance on me???
Anyway I didn't bother to reply to them and for the next few weeks they reply to my stories occassionally just to try and see if I will reply but of course I didn't reply so their last reply were "Hello?" And I don't get any dms from them anymore.
After that I keep seeing their acc following and unfollowing me and usually I will block immediately because it's always safe than sorry but whenever I want to do so their acc just gone so I didn't manage to do that so now the only way for me to keep myself safe is to just shut down all means of communication.
Anyway I am still okay with sharing just that I wish people have manners and try to talk to me normally instead of immediately trying to assert your ship to me lol I swear I am fine and if I'm nice enough I will literally draw the shared f/o and you for free because I want to but like if you creep me out, chances are I wont talk to you and probably block you lol

The reason people like storyboards better is because current Chelsea is an awful twist villain, literally only motivation is " I'm a flipping Mermaid" and a one-dimensional character , the twist villain is obvious, the trident is a Chekov's gun nobody's denying that, the I'm Nerissa is a Hans-level asspull, it has nothing to do with shipping, the twist trades their friends dynamic for nothing in exchange. People don't dislike the twist because of shipping, people dislike awful twist villains.
The reason for the switch was Shock Value and a way to have Agatha without blood on her hands, as per the Instagram posts.
You can tell it's a last minute switch by the murals, where the mermaids are depicted as adults. Good luck portraying the mermaid-kraken war in the future when they're all teenagers.
I think everyone was going into the movie knowing that the mermaid was going to be the villain, especially because of the marketing it had. The movie outright told us mermaids are selfish and bad. The fact that the mermaid is selfish and bad in the end like we were told isn't shocking... We were told... and you also just said it was obvious... Hans was a shock value twist villain because there was no foreshadowing leading to it. Chelsea/Nerissa was simple and predictable but I wouldn't say shocking.
Having Chelsea also be a teenager and pretending to be Ruby's friend as she manipulates her into getting the Trident doesn't add anything substantial to the narrative. You still have her manipulating Ruby for her own gain, all that's really different is that it isn't as strong of a connection to the narrative of "Ruby and her relationships with women in her life" because we've now made her a peer instead. The exact same plot happens... Ruby listens to the idea, thinks it's good, gets the training, gets the Trident, oh no the mermaid is evil, they all come together to beat the mermaid. Like her age has zero impact on the overall "the mermaid is the bad guy" plot of the movie, there will still be a friendship montage and bonding and whatnot because that's the hustle she is pulling, but having her be older ties her story to the theme better than if she was a teenager. Her being a teenager gives the story nothing in exchange.
I've seen people saying it adds depth to the character of Chelsea because then she's not only trying to kill all the Krakens and rule over everything as a tyrant Queen, she's also trying to avenge her mother! You know, the mother that also wanted to overthrow and kill the krakens, so she found a weapon that could do it so that she could be tyrant Queen of everything. It sure is an extra layer to the character, but is that really a layer you guys want? I get that people love to pull out the morally-grey card and have stories do the "both sides are bad" thing, but for the info we got in the movie, the mermaids were the instigators. And once again, the info we have on the mermaids being "opposed and in hiding" comes from our bad guy who, even if she was a teenager, is still a liar and manipulator.
Like as far as real life goes fuck monarchies and the ruling class,,, but this is a movie aimed at younger kids and we have no reason to doubt the lore from Grand Mama being wrong while we have all the reason to doubt what Chelsea says no matter her age.
With what was in the movie, even if we went back to cover more of the war to flesh out teenage Chelsea and her motivations, the Trident would still be your Chekov's gun, and the villain Nerissa would still have the awful motivation of "I'm a flipping mermaid". This would add a story theme of 'history repeats itself' which is something I don't think they were aiming for.
If they kept blood on Agatha's hands by having her kill Nerissa, it would totally add depth to her part of the narrative and how she relates to her mother and ran away so Ruby wouldn't have to grow up in a post-war warlord household setting. I would feel bad that she got blood on her hands when she may not have wanted to. I don't feel bad that she killed someone who was very much trying to kill her people on purpose in a bid for power.
And for your last bit, of it being a last minute change because the murals don't look like teenagers. Let's just put aside the fact that they are stylized. Are you trying to say that adults can't look young like that? That there aren't adults that appear younger than their age because of whatever various reasons there are that cause that exact thing to happen? For mermaids it might just be a quirk of the species. But I will not have anyone using some form of "they look like a teenager so they can't be an adult" as some sort of proof on my blog because being an adult mistaken as a teenager has been a good fucking chunk of my life. I go to a restaurant with my family and we get asked "do you need a kids menu?". There are many middle schoolers taller than me. If people really look at my face they guess I'm around high school age, physical appearance plays a lot into perception of age and having someone who is extremely short, and cis female with absolutely zero signs of boobs makes 14-16 really popular estimations. They are very much wrong and have been so for over a decade. So I personally find it incredibly possible that mermaids might just look like that.

so obviously you complained a lot about fanon tim... but what are your honest thoughts about canon tim?
lol
listen. i see the appeal in canon tim. i can understand why other people like him.
but he has not grabbed my attention in a single thing ive read him in :/ every time hes in some thing to me hes just kind of there? i have a problem with him when the story tries to paint him as the coolest and smartest guy ever because thats just. ugh. like td:r is leaning HARD into "smart robin" and it feels like every page is a blinking neon sign saying "LOOK AT HOW SMART HE IS!!!!" instead of him just being smart and im like.... ok? i don't care ? it feels like everything hes in is telling me that hes interesting instead of making him interesting
and honestly the annoyance at him being treated like the Greatest Boy Ever in some books has just bled into me being annoyed every time he shows up bc the narrative wants to be like "wow look at tim hes so cool :)" so its gotten to the point that i roll my eyes whenever hes there fjkdhfahhkfad
also i understand it was just an editorial decision to make tim robin again but jfc that reflects so badly on tim to me :/ just seeing him with his robin run and the whole "step aside damian! the worlds favorite robin is back!!" annoyed me so much that i cant even think about tim as robin without him pissing me off. like girl move on! the fact that dc acts like damian is a terrible robin while tim is the greatest robin to ever grace the earth makes me so mad
plus. the whole "batman needs a robin" thing from his origin is very dumb to me and.. again i know this is a thing to look at from a doylist perspective but just from a watsonian perspective its so annoying that he saw bruce grieving and said "hm... well clearly this is because he needs someone to be robin!" also theres a part in lonely place of dying where like. i understand that the book had to go over dicks origin to talk about how it relates to tim, but he just shows up, makes dick relive his parents' deaths, then talks about how badly it affected himself instead of dick fkjsdhfajsdfakj
so. no i do not like canon tim.

I miss when Hulu used to have a comments section under every video, there was always something interesting (in a human behavior curiosity kind of way) about scrolling down to see usually an absolutely ridiculous collection of people having a rowdy open forum discussion about something you just watched that you had a completely neutral non-reaction to
#unfortunately - everything still trends toward homogenization#people especially tech comanies can't just have their own fucign unique thing. they have to look and act like every other service#to ''''compete''' apparently (even though like... wouldn't having unique features be instead a NOVEL draw to your specific product? wouldn't#you want to stand out???)#Like OKCupid completely over-simplfying their site into bare bones sleek nothingness and taking away all the features that made it unique#in any way (high customization - various personality ranking scales and a LOT of various visible data/information) .. because oh yeah#actually we have to be tinder and just quick emoji blurb swipe swipe#Hulu trying to be netflix and taking away anything that made it stand out in any posiive way (comments section.. other things that I forget#since I've been using it since like 2009 or something)#Youtube.... everything youtube does.... god.......#All social media sites are exactly the same now with extremely minor differences and even then still frequently implement samey#features to try and close those differences#etc. etc.#ANYWAY . i think also the hulu comments sections were facebook linked - like..one of the ways you could actually verify yourself to#leave a comment was having a facebook login (AT LEAST in like 2010.. I don't remember if they changed this at some point)#so you could also usually (I think..?? again.. if I'm rmembering correclty) you could get to someone's facebook profile#from the comments section sometime. I used to watch stuff and then scroll down to see what The Masses were saying and sometimes#someone's comment would be so strange I'd like.. go investigate them as a person#see what type of posts they make on their personal facebook which was always way too public with none of their information#privated of course lol
