This week I need to start planning my final essay so I decided to do some reading on poetry analysis in order to know what I need to do better and then started the planning by choosing my essay question. Then I decided to work on my portfolio a bit since I still need to write a million more descriptions 🙃

We cover the history of architecture folios and architecture drawing layout with the folio collection of Giovanni Battista Piranesi and The Four Books of Architecture by Andrea Palladio. Hi! Welcome to MY WORLD, aka coolpixdump. As of this writing (1/2025), I have been running this photoblog for 7 years, so it seems like it's about time for a statement of purpose.

The tagline says "Exploring the intersection between architecture, infrastructure and nature" and that's a big part of this project. I am heavily influenced by the New Topographics photographers, who were trying to show the impact of humankind's "progress" on the natural world. I think of my work at the exact middle ground between their work, William Eggleston's, and the paintings of Edward Hopper (with a sprinkle of Corinne Day on the nights I photograph shows). I'm interested in capturing the beauty of the banal, the elegance of the everyday. I want to illuminate the haunting aura of all the places that no one else thinks to photograph.

The majority of the work I present here is shot with my trusty Nikon Coolpix 3200. For more information on the cameras I use, see my cameras page.

I hope to one day put together a book, or at least a zine -- some kind of tangible collection. But for now, it's all here. You can use the "MORE PHOTOS" links towards the bottom on the left & right of each page if you are browsing on the web, or you can scroll into oblivion if you are using the Tumblr app. Feel free to reach out if you have any questions.
