the thing about jujutsu kaisen is that it’s a story with a big, hulking, heaving child exploitation machine in the center of it. all of the grownups are well aware it’s there, they matriculated from the damn thing, and even the children are fairly certain something is grinding up their bones for porridge, but no one can stop it so they all just adapt. “how do you react to the child exploitation machine” is in fact one of the defining character questions on the human side. some people, like nanami, take the high road and refuse to enable the machine and always treat the children inside it as if the machine is nonexistent—this is very noble but does nothing to ultimately slow the machine down. lots of adults go “well, i will be a firm but fair authority figure to the children in the child exploitation machine and get them ice cream.” yuki and gojo are very sure they have the juice to ultimately stop the child exploitation machine… but it turns out that bitch is hard to dismantle so they’re left going “hang in there, children! you’re doing great! mommy’s proud of you! i will definitely save, if not you, then one of the next generations of children!”
meanwhile the beast just keeps on chugging.

Since the last trip to On'Lee Artisan Bakery, my other colleagues had heard about the cream puffs and would love to get their hands on them too. So, leading another group of my colleagues, we made our way through the underground shopping alley in Woodlands MRT Station TE2. I bought the same box of Assorted Cream Puffs (S$5.80) featuring two Originals, one each of Chocolate and Matcha.

So recently (about a week ago) I was finally able to complete my new years resolution!! My and my dad went somewhere a few hours away, and got tickets to ride a train that was themed around the Polar Express!! They gave you a golden ticket, the conductor hole punched it onto your hair, they did the hot chocolate song (with very little enthusiasm, all the workers were like...14 y/o theater kids), gave you hot chocolate and a cookie, there was an audio read of the book, the train went through a tunnel, the whole 9 yards! The train went to a coal depot that was nearby that was decorated like the north pole, Santa waved you in and there were people dressed as elves, and they even had one specific guy who just did a backflip every few minutes, which everyone lost their minds over.
Once we left by just going in reverse Santa was gone, and eventually he came through the train, everyone got actually a really nice metal bell with "The Polar Express™" engraved on it, and it was just a really really nice experience!! Like sure I was embarrassed a bit at first since the whole thing was targeted towards kids, but I was grinning like an idiot the whole time and it was just such a good time!!!
So I completed my new years resolution (ride a train), and it was a really really nice early birthday gift too!

Some non negotiables in my life are good coffee, good bread, good cheese, and good chocolate. I will spend So Much money on those things. Everything else? I'll get at dollar tree or whatever but even when I'm flat broke those are the four things I refuse to compromise on.

In between bouncing between two fic projects, two original projects, I got obsessed with this no-knead everything bread recipe from King Arthur Flour, and made a weekend project of putting it together. Despite many trials and tribulations (the dough is super sticky and hard to work with, the bread got stuck to the sides of the dutch oven, and the crust cracked in my attempts to get it out), the loaf actually turned out well!
But I needed to show you all how comically large a single slice of toast is.

The monster looks like a gd mini baguette on the plate. Anyway, I have bread forever now (or however long it takes me to go through the slices I've carefully put away in the freezer). But this has also ignited my intrigue for other potential fun artisan loaves.

Artisan Chocolate vs. Mass-Produced: What’s the Difference?
When it comes to chocolate, the distinction between artisanal and mass-produced varieties goes beyond just the price tag. As someone who enjoys exploring the world of chocolates, I’ve come to realize that the difference lies in the care, quality, and craftsmanship behind each bar.
Artisanal Chocolate: A Craft Experience
Artisanal chocolate is made in small batches, often by passionate chocolatiers focusing on quality ingredients and the bean-to-bar process. This means the cocoa beans are carefully sourced, often from single-origin farms, and the chocolate is handcrafted with precision. Artisapreciselynal brands like Ziaho pay close attention to flavour profiles, experimenting with unique ingredients like spices, fruits, or nuts, creating a truly bespoke product.
What I love most about artisanal chocolate is the transparency and traceability of its ingredients. Many artisanal makers emphasize ethical sourcing and sustainability, ensuring fair trade practices for cocoa farmers.
Mass-Produced Chocolate: A Commercial Approach
Mass-produced chocolate, on the other hand, is manufactured in large quantities by big brands aiming for consistency and affordability. The production process is streamlined, and the cocoa beans are often sourced from multiple regions, leading to a more uniform taste. While mass-produced chocolate is readily available and budget-friendly, it tends to contain added preservatives, artificial flavors, and lower cocoa content.
While it’s perfect for a quick treat, mass-produced chocolate often lacks the depth of flavor and texture that you get from artisanal options.
