Platform Ball – it is more close to 80s computers

Little simple little game about rectangle and a little circle. You move a platform to the left and to the right. And you can to throw a circle from a platform. You are green. And circle is flying and catch platform at the top of the screen. You gain scores for this. As soon as you catch all platforms – you go for next level. Total 3 levels.

Game is something like retro. And here it is 16 colors. It is everything very simple. Game process is less then a five min. So, this kind of retro should to be, maybe, more close to real 80s computers. Platforms at the top - they are just standing. You need to catch them with a ball. You are green. And, platform at the top - they are different colors. At the first level – it is one line, at the second level - two lines. And at the third level – whole three lines. In every line – 10 platforms. Background - it is always black.

Control is simple in game – arrows left and right for move. Escape for exit. And you can throw a ball with a three directions. Ball is always goes with a straight line. It hit a wall and go back. You need to catch it, when it goes back. If you miss it – you left a 1 live. You have, as always, 3 lives.

Maybe, it is interesting, later, to do a game, where lives - they will be calculating another way.  So, you can, also, throw a ball about a straight line – at the left, and at the right side from you. It is control with keys – A, Z – to throw at the left side. S, X – to throw a ball at he straight. And D, C – to throw a ball at the right from you. So this means A, S, D. Or Z, X, C. It is about how more comfortable for player.

Everything is so simple. And it is like this. It is a test game. Which is made with new dialect of programming language QBasic. It is BBC Basic for SDL2 (BBC BASIC for SDL 2.0). So, it is a memory event. It is excellent Basic, I like it! It is different from QB64. But it is a Basic.

It is a first game for a new plan about development games with Basic and Pascal. Plan is about to try different Basic. Different dialects of Basic. There are lots of them. I wanted this for a long time. And moment is now.

With this game, I try programming language BBC BASIC for SDL 2.0. How to write a function with it, how to make a video output, and everything I need for next usage of this programming language. Test of capabilities.

Program part

It is written with BBC BASIC for SDL 2.0. And it is selected graphic mode number 2. It is 16 colors. And resolution with 1280x1024.

Development state

Here we have two processes.

First – it is making a decoration and prepare for release a game pack Basic Pascal version 1.6. I still need to program at my website. About each game – a separate page. And next – to upload. It will be 4 new games – it is TRIA, Space KOVSH, Voidtriks, Planet UFO.

Second. It is, already, a development of a new games. By plan – “Different Basic”. Where I will try a different dialects of programming language Basic. And I start this process with little game Platform Ball. Game is programed in part of gameplay. But is till need to make a menus. To check, that everything works. And it will be done!

Mando'a Dialect of the SouthEast Cities

The SouthEast Cities of Mandalore, a sub-region of 5 cities part of the East Cities, host their own mando’a dialect, just like many of the other regions. Let’s see the main differences between the southeast dialect and the standard mando’a:

Southeast mandalorians tend to get rid of the letter “r” entirely, especially when found in the middle or at the end of a word, putting more emphasis on the vocals before it with an accent.

Examples:

Beskar → Beskà [besh- KAH]

Resol’nare  → Resol’nà [REH-sol-NAH]

Haar’chak! (Damn it!) → Haa’chak! [HAH-chahk] 

Wer’cuy (Forget it) → We’cù [we-CUH]

K’uur! (Hush!) → K’uu!  [KOOH]

K’olar!(Come here!) → K’olà! [ko-LAH]

Cuy ogir’olar (It’s irrelevant) → Cu’ ogi’là  [COO oh-gee-LAH]

Vor’e (Thanks) → Vo’e [vo-EH]

Gar serim (That’s it) → Ga’ se’ì [gah seh-EE]

Buir (Parent) → Bù [BOO]

The removal of the last or last two letters is also very common, and not only because of the presence of the “r”.

Examples:

K’atini! (Suck it up!) → K’atì! [kah-TEE]

Vod (Sibling) → Vo’ [VOH]

Ba’vodu (aunt/uncle) → Ba’vù  [bah-VUH]

Ori’jate (Very good) → Ori’jà  [o-ree-JAH]

Mirsh'kyramud (Boring person) → Mirsh’kyrà [MEERSH-kee-RAH]

Ret'urcye mhi (Goodbye) → Ret’ù mhi  [reh-TOO mee]

Nar dralshy'a (Try harder) → Na dralsh’à [nah drahl-SHAH]

Udesii (Calm down) → Udè [oo-DEH]

Hukaat'kama (Watch my back) → Hukaa’mà [hu-kah-MAH]

Mirshmure'cya (Keldabe Kiss/Headbutt) → Mirshmur’yà [meersh-moo-RYA]

Many words and phrases (especially in exclamation) also get very abbreviated, with a good chunk of letters gone entirely.

examples:

Su’cuy gar! (Hello!) → Su ga’  [soo GAH]

Gedet’ye! (Please!) → Get’ye! [geh-THYE] 

K’oyacyi! (Cheers!) → K’oyi!  [koh-YEE]

Usenye! (Go away!) → Usyè! [oo-SYEH]

Mir’osik! (Dung for brains!) → M’osik! [moh-SEEK]

Mar'e! (At last!) → Mà! [MAH]

Kandosii! (Nice one!) → Kasii! [kah-SEE]

Ke’pare! (Wait!) → Ke’pà! [ke-PAH]

Copaani gaan? (Need a hand?) → Copa’ gaa? [ko-pah GAAH]

Sooran, shab! (Suck on that, chum!) → Soo’à, shà! [soo-AH SHAH]

Other phrases:

Ni kar’tayili gar darasuum (I love you) → Ni ka’talì ga’ daasuum

Mando’ad draar digu (A Mandalorian never forgets) → Mand’ad draa digù

Ori’buyce, kih’kovid (All helmet, no head) → Ori’bù, kih’kovì

Aliit ori'shya tal'din (Family is more than blood) → Allit o’shya ta’din

Ni kar’tayil gai sa’ad (I know your name as my child) → Ni ka’talì ga’ sa’ad

I was hoping to take you up on the offer and as some questions about the Phillipines for my Phoenix! (but no pressure ofc)

I've found it sort of difficult to find resources that aren't big-picture historical facts or tourism info lol

• What holidays do you celebrate, besides the standard Catholic ones?

• And I guess on that note, are religious celebrations a big thing? Baptism, patron saint's day, etc

• Culturally, is there a strong focus on family ties? (Curious bc it's very different on two sides of my own family)

• Do you have any recommendations for figuring out a name for my Phoenix? Are there common trends in naming, resources you know, or anything like that?

• I read that English, Spanish, and Tagalog were all the national language at one point - is it common for people to speak all three?

Lots of these are based on my own experiences LOL but also I hadd to double check many historical details. Also this got way too long AKSJDHF

What holidays do you celebrate, besides the standard Catholic ones?

Aside for the Catholic ones, a lot of our local holidays are either birthdays (and deathdays) of famous Filipinos, major historical events, like Independence Day on June 12, the EDSA Revolution on February 25 (though this occurred in the 80s IIRC), and the Day of Valor on April 9, OR more localized holidays about when a province/city got established and such. Honestly these don't have a loooot of special stuff you have to do during that day, unlike Christmas for example. They're not days that you have to Celebrate(tm), but if you're aiming to put your character in a period close to these events, then you could technically give meaning to them :3c Though that'll require a bit more research heh

And I guess on that note, are religious celebrations a big thing? Baptism, patron saint's day, etc

Religious celebrations are def a big deal...Depending on your religion of choice, of course LMAO In the Philippines, Roman Catholic is the biggest religious domination, but there's also a very big Islamic population here especially in Mindanao. There's also INC (Iglesia ni Cristo) that I can't say much on because I'm personally not part of this group, but I think it's a variant on Christianity ?? Anyways, talking as someone who was born in a Roman Catholic household: people spend a lot of time and money into these celebrations. there are festivals for saints, church weddings are a pretty big deal too but I think that's common across a lot of cultures.

Oh, absolutely! Like it's a thing where people say Asia in general has a lottt of collectivist cultures, and the Philippines is no exception. It's veryyy common for one household to house multiple generations of families, and I've even heard stories from friends where their extended families literally live next to each other in a street/subdivision LMAO There's a lott of focus on listening to your parents and looking out for your family, doing what's best for your family vs what's best for you is an interesting contrast to give to your Phoenix if you choose to go that route. Of course, it differs between families, but I've noticed family-first is a very big thing here.

Do you have any recommendations for figuring out a name for my Phoenix? Are there common trends in naming, resources you know, or anything like that?

Honestly, even I have trouble looking up new Filipino name ideas LOL there's not a lot of resources out there, but I'll still share stuff that I found useful :] BUT FIRST ! The naming trend in general is kind of loose and flexible! I've noticed that English/Spanish first names are very common, then they're either paired with a surname of Filipino/Spanish origin. You don't have to look too far for an example: IEYTD 2 has Chancellor Chelsa (English origin. I think?) Magpantay (Filipino origin) . Filipino first names are harder to come by these days and it's a shame </3 This is also entirely optional but Filipino full names include middle names (your mother's maiden surname) as well! For example, names are usually written like: Jose P. Rizal, with P(rotacio) being Rizal's middle name.*

*little aside, but Rizal's full name is actually much longer... but it's because he lived during the Spanish occupation. You can give your character multiple first names honestly that's also a thing I noticed SDKJFH but Firstname Lastname is usually satisfactory

For traditional Filipino name resources, Behind the Name has a few examples for first names, but you may notice some of them are just literally what they mean - "Ligaya" is happiness, much like how Joy is a name people have LMAO so stuff like that you can use as inspiration :] For my own Phoenix, Adarna is a legendary bird from a traditional epic, so mythological inspos are cool too - unfortunately that stuff is also. SO hard to find for. Fuck colonization lol

FOR traditional surnames, I actually found this webpage really interesting !! The info isn't complete but these are some legit surnames, considering I've seen a lot of them used by people I've met/known. Some of them have regional origins too which is very handy!

Okay, so this bit HEAVILY relies on the era you want your Phoenix to live through. Spanish was the national language during the Spanish Occupation (from 1565-1898, that's more than 300 years!), but after the PH gaining "independence", spanish was pretty much dropped instantly as a national language...... Mostly because spain actually sold the PH to the US. OOPS !!! LOLLL as an attempt to fully make the PH their "own" thing, the US just kinda swept any Spanish rules and declarations away once they got ahold of the country, including making the Spanish language mandatory. So from 1898 onwards, English and Filipino are the national languages of the PH. Despite Filipino having a lot of Spanish loanwords, Spanish hasn't been declared a national language since then, and thus has never been a required study. Your Phoenix can read the time in Spanish if their parents/grandparents refer to time like that (like my own parents do), but unless they voluntarily study Spanish, they probably wouldn't consider themselves a Spanish speaker from that alone.

So um tl;dr due to politics, it's uncommon for Filipinos to speak all three, unless under special circumstances. If you're going for the common fanon of 1960's, Filipino and English are your best bet.

HOKIE !! as a general rule, you can write a Filipino character the same way you write any other character: give them a well-rounded personality and a solid motive, their own interests and all that jazz B) I'm actually not familiar with Filipino stereotypes specifically, ngl?? There's a lot of overlap with Asian stereotypes and discriminatory opinions against immigrant workers, Especially those coming from "third-world" countries. I'd also suggest avoiding making them too "mystical" or "exotic". I don't know how helpful this part is, specifically. Just make sure to make them their own person with flaws, strengths, and personal motivations, and you should be good. sniles.

Sometimes im reminded that Malaysian tend to have like the habit of switching up languages with no big issues and forgot that not everyone can do that

I went to the local food market, the type that is out in the open with several stalls all placed together closely and its crowded and stuff right

So I talk to my brother and sister in English, Mandarin + Cantonese to my mom and dad. If we're ordering food from the aunty uncle, we either use hokkien / fujian or Malay (depending the race of the seller)

There was a neighbouring customer who were white(think they were from America judging from the bag and general mannerism) that started talking to my dad and he was just saying how insane we sounded switching languages around HAHA

I kinda love that even in the non voice acted dialogue, Ryunosuke still speaks with an obvious English accent/dialect, and he seems to be kinda just picking it up from the English people around him as a way of fitting in better. Just got him thinking "It was bothering me before, this was" which isn't phrasing I've ever heard from an American. It's very distinctly English phrasing to me.

This also actually implies a bit about his education, because it would indicate that his English teacher in Japan was from England.

not to endlessly whinge about the same thing. but what is it even with those minor translation choices? i remember 'bum wrap rhiny' specifically pissed me off cause what on earth does it fucking mean?? and i dont remember the other one. cause theyre actually both very clearly named after miscarriages of justice: fabrication of evidence and false charges (捏造くん、えん罪くん). and no, you cant just bloody replace those with random words and have it make sense? this is even worse than replacing the police masoct being specifically about arresting people but 'cutely' and making it just sound like vaugely policy if you squint
