Aang has a scar on the first chakra, the Earth charka, located at the base of the spine. It deals with survival and is blocked by fear.

Zuko has a scar on the stomach, the Fire Charka, located in the stomach. It deals with willpower and is blocked by guilt.

Both scars were given to them by Azula's lightening

ATLA Book 3 Character Stats

One thing I have been wondering for a while is how many lines of dialogue each character has in ATLA. I recently figured out an easy way to calculate it, so here are the stats for Book 3. You can look at the stats for Book 1 and Book 2 at those links.

There are 3309 total lines of dialogue in the season. They are divided up as follows:

Definitely gonna go with the Brazilian take of the scene if I ever feature The Ember Island Players in any of my fanfiction.

I just want all of you to know something...

Remember this scene in Avatar the Last Airbender, in the episode called “The Ember Island Players”, when the gaang goes to the theater to watch that ridiculous play about their adventure…?

And there’s this part that Aang goes “Uh… I wanted to sit there” because he wants to sit next to Katara?

Well, I was extremely disappointed to find out that, in the original, Zuko replies with “Just sit next to me, what’s the big deal?”…

Because in the Brazilian dub, I don’t know why or how or whose idea it was, but it turned out a million times better, since Zuko’s reply to him is…

“Sit here on my lap, I don’t mind it.”

And it was so sincere and naive and dumb and somehow nice of him, like as if he were his big brother or something, because the intonation is totally pure and kind, it was not sarcastic or anything! So yeah… I just think that was a huge improvement. It was cute and absolutely hilarious! Thanks, Brazilian translators, that was awesome! XD

The Last Dragons and their symbolism

In ATLA, there are two instances that which the dragons, Ran and Shaw, appear. The first appearance happens in 'Book 2, Episode 18' during Zuko's nightmare. Ran the red Dragon's voice is of Uncle Iroh, who advises Zuko to run away and not fall asleep. Shaw the Blue Dragon is voiced by Azula who recognizes him as the Fire Lord and urges him to sleep.

The second appearance is in Book 3 episode 13, where Zuko and Aang meet them to understand the nature of fire. Aang insists on dancing with the dragons. Zuko is partnered as Ran, and Aang is partnered as Shaw. The two are judged by the opposite dragon, Shaw inspecting Zuko and Ran inspecting Aang.

Many parallels exist between Zuko and Aang throughout the series, and I believe this is one pivotal storytelling point that describes the parallels of the nature and environment of the two heroes.

Ran, being voiced by Iroh, could be interpreted as a move towards self-discovery and self-destiny. Within Zuko's dream, Ran insists Zuko get's out of there. He dances with Zuko as an indicator that this way only made possible by Zuko leaning into his good nature and own choices. If he had followed Shaw's advice, as within the dream, then he would have failed his forced destiny and predetermined role as the Firelord's son. Even during the judgment aspect, Shaw looks to see if he understands how his given role (newly Aang's firebending teacher) is fit for learning the secrets.

Opposingly, Aang has always rejected his predestined role in life. Aang never wanted to be the avatar, and consistently fights his responsibilities in a variety of ways before and within the series up til this point. It goes as far as rejecting firebending for so long. Azula is a character who has fallen into her given role with grace and perfection. Shaw using her voice is not only representative as a successful person for going into a given societal role (at least in Zuko's eyes), but also as being Aang's dance partner. Aang danced with Shaw as an expression that there essentialness to taking on that role and Aang is coming into it. Ran has to judge Aang to understand deep down if he is really willing to choose and accept that role as the Avatar.
