But when you come to think about it, it's been already 10 years since X & Y came out and since Fairy was first introduced ! Time flies ! And to this day, I still think that our very first Fairy Type Trainer, Johtonian now Kalosian as well, Valériane, is still on the spotlight.

Mirabel - 23/05/1950

Decapitation. Yeah… saving the miracle didn’t go so well for her. She would have lived, had Bruno’s tower not decapitated her when it fell. Her screams are practically burnt into Dolores’ memories. (Not that she knows, but the Madrigals never find her head. She’s forgotten about for the most part and doesn’t get any proper mourning or funeral.) Reincarnated!Mirabel remembers the days leading up to her death and the beheading itself, very vividly. She is covered in crack-like scars and her voice also goes out pretty easily.

Isabela - 07/04/1964

Murder. Of course, Isabela’s death is going to be the most dramatic one - what were you expecting? Although her wedding to Mariano doesn’t go ahead, she still ends up marrying for the good of the family. Said fiancé, Milagro Perez (a relative to the Perez boys in my fics), is also being forced into this; the pair hate each other. After a very vicious physical fight on their wedding night, he poisons her coffee. Later passing it off as a suicide. Reincarnated!Isabela has no marks, but she gets very nauseous around strong chemicals and is always thirsty. She is also suspicious around men making her food or drink.

Dolores - 18/09/1965

Complications of Miscarriage. Dolores still finds Mariano out of her reach, and instead she’s married off to Armando Pezmuerto (a nephew of Señora Pezmuerto). The pair are happy enough together and consider each other good friends, but knew they’d have to deliver on the children aspect at some point. Dolores suffers a miscarriage at 22 weeks and doesn’t recover. The doctor never admitted how serious it was, in fear of how Pepa would react, so Julieta never intervened. Reincarnated!Dolores gets random cramps at times and can’t have children. Fortunately she’s got her cousins to make up for that.

Luisa - 30/01/1968

Snake Bite. She is (currently) the last to die of the reincarnated group. And actually went out the most kindly, all things considered. She ended up unknowingly disturbing a venomous snake and was bitten - her high pain tolerance kept from realising. She got increasingly sick over the next few minutes before dying, but didn’t try to find her mother until it was too late. Reincarnated!Luisa still has the bite mark on her ankle and occasionally experiences flashes of exhaustion and pain around the bite. She feels a bit in adequate compared to the others for her death a ‘dumb accident’.

Encanto OC Event Week 3: Efecto Mariposa. One Family

(Cute inspiration about the twins when they're kids. Alejandra's inspired from Bingo Heeler from Bluey and Francisca's from movie version of Matilda Wormwood.)

🎶Bruno married Mercedes. Now they're expecting 2 babies. And that's how Abuela became an abuela! Let's go! Let's go! 🎶

Mercedes, like canon, spends her pregnancy nauseous and achy. Thankfully Julieta's cooking helps. Even Bruno gets up and makes simple food for his wife. He showers her belly with kisses and gentle taps for good luck. Pepa makes baby blankets. Casita creates a nursery in Bruno's room. Alma's excited to have a new generation who'll make the family stronger. When Mercedes suggests the name Alejandra for a girl, Bruno instantly loves it. He also loves Francisca if they have another. He thinks it's the perfect name for a fearless hero in a telenovela. They come up with Horacio and Inigo for sons. (Their middle names would be Pedro and Armando in honor of their fathers.) Interestingly, Horacio means "Timekeeper" and Inigo means "Fiery."😉

In May, Mercedes feels the beginning of labor late at night, but the contractions are far apart. She doesn't worry remembering how her mother's labor went with her half-sister. Pepa, Julieta and Alma are further in town the next morning. Instead of being alone, Bruno's there the whole time providing comfort. The rest of the family arrives just in time as labor gets stronger and Mercedes's water breaks! Then it gets crazy. Bruno's pushed out of the room. Pepa can't control her worry which causes a storm. Alma's frustrated and takes Pepa out to calm down. Julieta's keeping her cool the best she can. She's helped with deliveries, but she's nervous doing it for her sister-in-law. Bruno can't take it and tries pushing the door down, until Casita lets him through. He's there for the delivery of his daughters. With happy tears, he holds Francisca and washes her while Mercedes delivers a breech Alejandra. The family is overjoyed with two babies. Alma holds back crying, wishing Pedro was there. That night she checks on Bruno and quietly sobs. In the warm candlelight, he's snuggled with his wife and twin daughters; arms protectively around them. It's a bittersweet moment for Alma, but reassured knowing this won't end in tragedy.

Bruno and Mercedes share all the responsibilities of raising the twins. They change diapers, handle colic and crying fits in turns. Mercedes has a hard time nursing and worries she's failing as a mother. Bruno encourages her and stays up for late night feedings. Once she gets the knack of it, he savors watching. It fills his heart in a way he can't describe seeing his wife nurse their children. They develop a favorite nursing position. Cuddled in bed, Mercedes holding one, Bruno holding another against her breast and his free arm draped behind his wife. Their heads gently nudged so Bruno can whisper to Mercedes that he's proud and loves her so deeply.

Julieta and Pepa love being aunts. They spoil their nieces with hugs and smooches. Alma savors being an abuela and watching her grandchildren grow. Bruno's over the moon, the stars and beyond. He doesn't do visions as often and spends any free time with his babies. Even after a terrible day, he feels better seeing them. His favorite thing is to lie in the hammock, twins against his chest and softly tell stories. Their mostly about Mercedes. So we know how the twins were with their mama. How about with their dad? Since Bruno and Mercedes have a healthy marriage and truly love each other, it makes an impact on the twins' lives compared to Mercedes being with Pablo. As they grow, they can talk to Bruno about anything because he's understanding. There's no favorites or expectations.

Alejandra is Bruno's shadow. They love playing make believe games. She's a pile of giggles when Hernando and Jorge show up. She even tries her own versions with her blanket and mixing bowl. When Bruno has to leave for visions, she'll say "Don't worry Papi. All good visions today." When he comes back after a bad day, she'll say "Knock on wood Papi. Tomorrow's better." When she's scared around new people, she'll hide under his ruana. She'll do it trying to surprise him and Bruno plays along wondering where she went. She loves the rats and treats them like babies.

Francisca's still antisocial, but she bonds with Bruno. He actually sees her for who she is and does what she likes compared to Pablo. He reads with her and challenges her with puzzles/riddles. He draws with her while she learns sketching. Bruno's unbothered that she's not a hugger. She learns to write fast and leaves notes to the family about how she loves them. Bruno finds them on his desk and vision cave. Speaking of which, Francisca prefers watching his visions. She's not afraid of them and is curious how they work. She's more patient with animals and doesn't mind Bruno's rats. She can be arrogant, but gently reminded to be humble.

Mercedes and Bruno usually spend Saturdays outside with the girls. Going for long walks, playing in streams and having picnics. If the girls are sick or having nightmares, they're allowed in their bed. Francisca learns the piano young and she has concerts for her family (and the stuffed animals.) Alejandra makes bracelets and necklaces for everyone. For one of their parent's wedding anniversaries, the girls say they have to marry. (They're 3 then.) Mercedes and Bruno comedically reenact they're wedding ceremony. The next year, the girls do a play how their parents met. If Bruno's had a lot of visions requests, he has to deliver vision tablets to townspeople and the girls go with him. Sometimes together or just one. The deliveries aren't as tense with them. Some people have a better reign on their reactions when his children appear. Bruno's eternally grateful for his family and he'll do anything to make sure his daughters don't struggle like he did. He and Mercedes are going to have a major challenge when they get their gifts.

(I think I'll save the rest after the Encanto OC Event. My brain's tired sorting this all out. 😅)

The Sing-Off, s.4 ep.1 — Contestants' Choice

Two years after its previous run, The Sing-Off came roaring back for a fourth season in December 2013, with a new judge on the panel and a new bit of drama in their decision-making process. The diverse roster of competitors ranged from high schoolers to retirees.

The brash, passionate music of Fun. was a fantastic choice for the first opening number of the season. With all ten groups creating a chorus 85 voices strong and overflowing into the side boxes, it's no surprise that the judges gave them a standing ovation.

Vocal Rush had videographer with them, and he recorded some footage of rehearsals in which you can catch glimpses of the VoicePlay gang. (Earl is the easiest to pick out in his bright orange shirt, but they're all there if you look carefully.)

The brief for both the audition process and the first episode was to perform something that represents the group's strengths. Since it was good enough to get them on the show, VoicePlay made a few tweaks to the arrangement of their submission piece, and worked with the choreographers to add dynamic staging that played more effectively to the studio audience and multiple cameras.

Due to their position late in the lineup, this performance was recorded at about midnight, seven hours into filming.

They hadn't been allowed to get comfortable while waiting, though, since the production team shuffled the groups between the boxes for each number.

After each section of five groups performed, the judges chose one to compete in "the ultimate sing-off" showdown number, a last chance to impress. VoicePlay were in the second half with Ten, Element, The Filharmonic, and the AcoUstiKats.

Knowing that they had been in danger right off the bat, the guys decided to demystify the "ultimate sing-off" process in their own amusing way. They were very excited when the official Hostess account retweeted them a few days later.

And so the six professional entertainers in VoicePlay were pitted against the baker's dozen Ivy Leaguers in the Princeton Footnotes. With a pop song on the agenda, one might assume the youths would be more suited to the style. But classical training can only take you so far. Sometimes diversity of experiences is more valuable.

Trivia:

VoicePlay may have had a bit of an advantage with the choice of song. "Bye Bye Bye" was part of a boy band medley they were already performing at their concerts.

Since this was the last song filmed for the episode, the two groups had to perform it at around 1:30 in the morning. And then the judges had to deliberate.

When they performed this battle on the 2014 Sing-Off tour, The Filharmonic took the Footnotes' place and used the arrangement they hadn't needed during the competition.

When the dust settled, the judges saw more potential for VoicePlay continuing to improve and grow in ways that would benefit them for the competition, so the college boys were sent home.

EL PARLAMENTO DE LA MEMORIA INICIA SESIÓN EN EL TEATRO DEL PUEBLO

Puesta en escena en la que se analizan problemáticas actuales para ser dialogados con la libertad que ofrece el Teatro

Se escenificará los días 1, 2, 8 y 9 de septiembre

El colectivo teatral La Comedia Humana se ha caracterizado por su enfoque en la reapropiación de procedimientos artísticos por parte de comunidades específicas. Con el objetivo de reactivar la memoria, investigar los imaginarios sobre el futuro y la puesta en común de acciones, se toma como base dos interrogantes: ¿cuál puede ser en el espacio público la potencia del arte? y ¿cómo puede un dispositivo artístico propiciar las prácticas estéticas de una comunidad para conformar imaginarios futuros?

La agrupación ha planteado otros tipos de teatralidad como oportunidades provenientes del arte para que las comunidades problematicen y reconstruyan sus lazos identitarios, a través de recabar testimonios, realizar acciones colectivas en el espacio público que inician una puesta en común de la palabra y la imagen de la comunidad. 

Uno de los instrumentos para llevar a cabo los objetivos de La Comedia Humana es la puesta en escena multidisciplinaria El Parlamento de la memoria, que se presentará los días 1, 2, 8 y 9 de septiembre, en el Teatro del Pueblo, recinto de la Dirección del Sistema de Teatros de la Secretaría de Cultura de la Ciudad de México. 

A partir de la pinta de un muro en una calle de París en 1968 que decía: “Cuando el parlamento se convierte en un teatro, el teatro debe convertirse en un parlamento”, se propuso El parlamento de la memoria, como una práctica escénica en la que diversos especialistas plantean problemáticas propias de la realidad actual. 

Dichas problemáticas se trabajan en comisiones para hacer iniciativas de Ley que son votadas al final de cada sesión. En la presente temporada se analizarán casos como Despojo y gentrificación en la Ciudad de México, Patrimonio y discapacidades, Precariedad laboral en la Ciudad de México, Infancias, Desaparición forzada y otros.

La puesta en escena se desarrolla de manera formal: se recibe a los congresistas que son los propios espectadores, se forma y hace reconocimiento de bancadas; cesión de la palabra a los parlamentarios; presentación de problemática por parte del especialista, planteamiento de tres preguntas en torno al tema por parte del especialista, discusión de los cuestionamientos en comisiones por mesas, redacción de una Ley, votación de ésta y cierre de sesión.

En la puesta en escena participan los creadores escénicos: Moisés Álvarez, Braulio Amadís, Jennifer González, Juan Lugo, Mariana Morado, Rubén Ortiz, Bruno Ruíz y Armando Ventura.

“Creemos en organizarnos para la vida. Creemos en el ensayo como forma de vida: ensayar la democracia, la ternura, el cuidado”, dice la compañía, como una propuesta para construir otros mundos posibles. En otro sentido: “Prender fuego a un parlamento es un acto simpático, inútil pero simpático, cita del Comité Invisible, que para nosotrxs manifiesta que en la política partidista no está representada la agenda de la gente y no tenemos la esperanza de algún cambio en los congresos habituales. Así que decidimos construir un Parlamento de la memoria para dar espacio a esa agenda entre nosotrxs.”

El parlamento de la memoria se presentará los días 1, 2, 8 y 9 de septiembre, los viernes a las 18:00 horas y los sábados a las 17:00, en el Teatro del Pueblo (República de Venezuela 72, Centro Histórico, Metrobús Teatro del Pueblo).
