Thorn, sweeping up a child who was running at him: Awww! Thire, look! A kid has Fox's helmet! Hey there, little guy! Where'd you get that from? Fox, tugging the helmet off: My head! Ori'vod, help! I don't know where I am! I just woke up in someone's armor! Thire: Stars above, Fox, you're a cadet! How did this happen? Fox: Huh? Thorn: ...Do you seriously believe this is Fox and not just a cadet that stowed away on a ship from Kamino? I bet Fox is playing a prank on us. Thire: I've known Fox since we were fresh out of the tube. I know him when I see him. Do you see that scar on his lip? It fades when he's older, but he got that in a scrap with Wolffe. Fox: You should see what I did to him! Thorn, squinting suspiciously: ... Thire, sighing: Fox'ika, what is the last thing you remember? Fox: I was sleeping next to Four-seven...Oh no...He's definitely worried about me right now. I need to get back! Thorn: Four-seven? Fox: CC-4477! Thire, grinning: You're lost in a strange place, but you're worried about your best friend, huh? Fox, reaching out for Thire: How did you know he's my best friend? Do I know you, ori'vod? Thire, taking him from Thorn's arms: Very well actually, Ten-ten. We'll figure this all out, ok? Thorn, pulling the helmet from Fox's hands: Wait, I can hear something. Fox is getting a message...Force, you're not going to believe this. It's Captain Rex from the 501st. He says something happened to Marshal Commander Cody, so he's dropping him off on Coruscant for his own protection. I can hear a cadet in the background... Thire: Cody too? Fox: Cody? Do you mean Kote? Is Kot'ika ok?

The Coruscant Detective Unit

This was really just a silly little idea I had a while ago and I ran with it. Anyways, I thought I’d share with the masses (tho not sure if anyone will see it akskdk) Be warned, it does contain my personal headcannons on the Corrie’s and their commanders

Commander: CC- 4477 “Thire”

Captains: CT- 6687 “Spade” and CT- 6799 “Noir”

The CDU is a secret unit of Coruscant Guard troopers living deep inside Coruscant. At the beginning of the war when the first clones were assigned to Coruscant, this unit did not exist. It was only about half a year into the war that it was even ever considered, only after the Commanders realized that the CSF handing off cases to them wasn’t just a once in a while thing. That combined with the unrest growing under the surface was something that would only continue to get worse, and eventually affect the Senate if the people down below grew restless enough.

With Fox already busy handling everything at once, overseeing everything that happens on Coruscant, he wasn’t able to be personally responsible for this unit. Thorn, practically being SIC while also handling most of the patrol duties, was also unable to take the responsibility. With Stone off world most of the time it wouldn’t make sense to have him handling a unit of troopers he would never get to see. Thire, being stationed over the prisons and the youngest, therefore having been kept from taking too much at once, offered to take care of it. And so it was decided that Thire would be their commanding officer.

Now the question was, where would they get the troopers? This unit wasn’t supposed to exist and any attempt at asking for it got shot down by Palpatine since “they did not have a need for one. They oversaw Senate security and nothing more”. They had to have multiple troopers to form this group so the process was slow, subtly sneaking troopers declared KIA down to the lower levels one at a time.

Thire can't be there at all times, or at all really, to directly lead any missions so he would need someone to help him. Luckily he had just the trooper for it. Or rather, he had the troopers for it. ARC twins Spade and Noir were then elevated to the status of Captain. The rest of the Guard knew about this but none of the GAR could. No one really wanted to deal with what would come out of that conversation.

Most of the unit's source of supplies comes from whatever they can steal, salvage, and buy (the last being rare). Anything they get from the Guard is used sparingly. With the limited resources all of them have to begin with, the last thing Spade and Noir want is to put more stress on their commander by making Thire figure out where they got everything they needed. They don’t complain even when the shinies get lightheaded or when breathing gets a little harder.

But when it comes to technology and some extra help outside of their capabilities they have a good friend made a couple months after this unit was formed. Her name is Kasai Cyra, a human from Corellia who’s really good at hiding and even better at putting together scrap. She lives on some of the deepest levels of Coruscant, why that is no one knows. She took one look at them and for some reason couldn’t ignore the fact they needed help.

These three combined are a chaotic mess that somehow are able to succeed more often than not. Of course every mission comes with its casualties that the twins have to bury down deep to keep themselves afloat. Neither can remember how long it had been since they’ve cried with how much they blocked out their emotions. Cyra isn’t much better but the main things she blocks out is the overwhelming helplessness. The fear that she’ll be found, that she’ll be killed, that she will lose everything if she isn’t careful enough.

The only way any of them do not get any terrible side effects from a vitamin d deficiency is by helping out those who run the circle of the supplements. In exchange they get gummies that are easier for the whole of the unit to eat (also Noir is picky). The masks they have to help them breathe down there aren’t really top notch either though. Basically everyone is barely surviving.

They (try) to keep as much peace down below as they can, whether that be by taking care of a group that needs to go or striking deals and helping out those that really need it. The entire unit knows that if they see a teenager stealing any kind of necessity on the street, no they didn’t. Life is hard enough for everyone down there as it is and they don’t want to make it worse for those less fortunate.

That’s all I’ll share for now (I have soooo much more but that can come out later after I am ready) but I hope you like it!

Stone’s voice was groggy and confused on the other end of the comm. "Fox? What's going on?"

"I overslept, somehow. I’m sure I set the alarms properly - some bastard must have turned them off," Fox explained in a rush. “Why didn't you comm me earlier? You know that Brink is going to be on your ass for pulling a third double in a row, even if I am grateful that you apparently decided to cover my shift without checking in with me. But I'm not injured, so you didn't need to do that.” He transferred the call to his bucket comm as he finished dressing in his armor, pausing for just a moment to snatch a breath and one of the emergency ration bars stashed in his bunk-side drawer.

"What? No, I'm not still on shift,” Stone answered, and he sounded increasingly bewildered. “Thorn took report a couple of hours ago. It's fine, Fox. Don't you - " 

Fox cursed under his breath, tensing up further. He'd been unsure about whether or not the unnamed thing between himself and Thorn should continue - despite the warm-soft-fuzzy feelings, he didn't want to overstep, and here Thorn was covering for one of his missteps. "Force karking damn it. I still wish that one of you had woken me up! I'll be at headquarters in five. Hopefully he hasn't had to cover too many of the meetings I'm supposed to be in for security reasons today."

"FOX! You don't have any meetings scheduled today. You're also not scheduled for patrol!" Stone half-yelled. "Fox, don't you remember?"

Fox paused for a moment, trying to figure out what Stone was referring to. There was something niggling at the back of his mind, but in his not-panic over being so horribly late to his shift he couldn't quite remember what it was that he should be remembering. "Remember what? That I'm horribly, horribly late? And that if any of the nat-borns we deal with - outside of the Jetiise - realize this slip up, it's back to Kamino for recalibration if I'm lucky?"

"Force's sake, Fox! You have the day off. Your request for leave went through," Stone cut in, talking over more of Fox's babbling with fond exasperation. "None of us woke you up because you're on leave.”

Fox blinked in surprise, and the memories slowly filtered back in at Stone’s words. That’s right; he had  five days off, all in a row. His request, submitted months ago, had finally been approved a couple of days previously, despite the Supreme Chancellor originally rejecting it. 

Fox had Bulwark to thank for that; the Chief Medical Officer had petitioned the Jedi Council directly, citing that battlefield commanders regularly got leave after campaigns, but the four commanders of the Coruscant Guard had never been granted leave because they were permanently stationed on Coruscant. Apparently he’d also had some choice words about CorSec all but abandoning their duties to the Guard - none of which the vode were even trained for, much less had the resources to take on. 

While Fox had been concerned to hear that one of his vode had criticized CorSec so blatantly to the Jedi, he had to admit that Bulwark got results. Each of the commanders would get a few days of leave off over the following months.

Fox, who knew well that the kindly old grandfather persona that the chancellor projected in public was a flimsi-thin mask hiding quite a bit of petty vindictiveness, was surprised that the Jedi had been able to strongarm him into agreeing to even that much, and he dreaded how Chancellor Palpatine would punish the Guard for it later. It was clear that the chancellor had grown very used to having an enormous amount of power and the privilege that came with it. Then again, maybe even he had finally admitted that the Guard was of no use to anyone if they burned out.

“...Right,” Fox replied belatedly. “I forgot. Sorry to have bothered you.” He winced. “I woke you up, didn’t I?”

SOMETHING IN THE DARK

The lights in her office flicker once, twice, and then go out, leaving Riyo in darkness. Every second that passes, it gets darker. She can see out of her office window like lights are extinguishing and darkness rolls over the entire city like a tide. Her first thought is that Coruscant is being attacked. Again. 

Riyo activates the glowlamp in her datapad and heads out of her office. A foreboding feeling creeps on her as Riyo walks through the hallway. It’s dark, even with the emergency lights on. A tingle runs down her spine and the hair on the back of her neck stands on end as if someone is watching her. When Riyo looks over her shoulder, nobody is there.

Stop being such a coward, she chides herself mentally. But, just in case, she picks up the pace, hurrying for the next corner. As a child, she was never comfortable being alone in the dark. As an adult, she manages, even if her heart palpitates and her stomach knots in apprehension.

Riyo freezes when she hears a loud thud behind her. Her feet feel rooted to the spot, but she forces herself to turn around. She directs the light on her datapad and catches a figure slumped against the wall at the end of the hallway. It’s far enough for her not to distinguish who it is. She sees nothing but the shadowy shape of a being.  

“Hello,” she says; her voice trembling slightly. “Are you okay?”

The figure stirs and mumbles, but Riyo doesn’t understand what they’re saying, so she walks closer. Her heart pounds, stutters, and picks up again in double time when she’s close enough to recognize the slumped figure as a Coruscant Guard trooper. Not any guard, but the very Commander Fox.

“Oh, Goddess!” Riyo breathes and sprints through the hallway, and kneels next to him. “Commander, are you hurt? What happened?”

He has a coffee shop to run, and rush hour is about to start. He makes a sign to his employees to get ready, Thire sending him a thumb up in return.

Fox’s gaze meets Quinlan’s for a long, deep second, before Fox turns his head, cheeks hot and heart beating too fast.

Thire served as a clone Lieutenant under Jedi Grand Master Yoda during a diplomatic mission to Rugosa to meet with the Toydarian King Katuunko in the early months of the Clone Wars. He would eventually be promoted to the rank of Commander, and shock troopers under his commanded hunted Yoda on Coruscant after Order 66. Commander Thire also accompanied Emperor Palpatine to Mustafar to retrieve Darth Vader.
