Recently I have been thinking about buying a new camera. The one I am using currently is from 2005 and has 8MP, 3456 × 2304px image size and ISO up to 1600 (but you don't even want to use 800 anymore...). So it's like not the best. While I really would like to have a bigger image size, my main issue is just that the battery only lasts for like 50ish images in a row - out of the 115 I could take, another issue. I could buy a new battery but that would cost me 20€ and these 20€ I could save for a new camera already.
But I am a bit unsure whether I really should implement a five-year-plan to save up for a really good one like I intended because in the end, it's not up to the gear whether you take good pictures or not. But perhaps it is a little bit, y'know? Like perhaps I could actually use the auto focus or a higher ISO without my battery dying even faster or crop the picture some more without being left with a thumbnail...
Then I thought that perhaps I should rather look for a used camera because that's cheaper so I could have it earlier, and also I will probably never be on a level where it pays off to have an insanely good camera. But I don't really know how old it should be at most to still make sense to buy.
And then lastly, I notice that the one extra lens I have takes way better pictures already than the kit lens that I am using most of the time, which makes sense. Unfortunately the better lens is more for stuff far away or something. But it gave me the thought to perhaps buy a new lens first and then a new camera later. While that would not solve my battery issues, I might have better results already and I could still use it later for when I have a newer camera.
If you are a photographer and have some advice, please share it! Please vote for what you would do, even if you are not a photographer! (I guess the poll still has more options than there will be votes in the end but I had to try.)

The Gear Blog - 2022
In response to a slew of questions recently - here's the gear I use for bird and wildlife photography.
The most common question I field through my various social media profiles is what camera gear I use. More often than not, I do put this info in the image captions on Instagram – especially when I’ve been lucky enough to test out new gear like the Z9 and Z800mm f/6.3! But normally my gear is a lot lighter (and cheaper) than a hefty full frame mirrorless and prime lens. I realised that the last…
