Shadowgast Bakery/Coffee/Tea Shop Au's I Love
Okay I promised this after the Shadowgast Fics that made me Ugly Cry list, but instead I ended up doing a Space Opera-AU list. OOPS.
That's fine - it gave me some extra time to read again for this list!
So here it is, in all it's fluff and glory - some of the Bakery/Coffee Shop Shadowgast AU's that I love.
____
Starting with the longer forms:
1 Labor of Love
Labor of Love (43331 words) by OMGitsgreen (let me know if you know their tumblr so I can tag!) Chapters: 6/6 Rating: Mature Summary: "He still looked devastatingly attractive in every possible way and it wasn’t fair because he looked like he had just rolled out of the bed. Essek needed at least an hour in the morning to talk himself into being even vaguely pleasant. “Oh! Guten Morgen, and welcome back to the Xhorhaus Bakery,” Caleb said, a certain pleasant crinkle to his expression. He was smiling a soft, gentle smile that caught Essek off guard. “What can I get you this morning?” At Xhorhaus Bakery, where the Mighty Nein bake up Rosohna's most delectable treats, magic is something that is in the air. For Essek Theylss, there might just be love there too. COMPLETED
Why I loved it: This is one of my favourite fluffy fics. It's the passion for magic, the softness in the baking, and the transformation of lonely-to-in-love Essek that has my heart. This is truly a comfort fic for me, it's just so unbelievably sweet.
____
2 always the lonely ones know
always the lonely ones know (19348 words) by jolychetta/@hearthianhatchling Chapters: 6/6 Rating: General Audiences Summary: Essek Thelyss doesn't like unexpected changes, but when his usual coffee shop is replaced by a new one, he has no idea how much his life is about to be shaken up. He should hate the Chaos Crew Café and its people, but he keeps returning every day. It definitely has nothing to do with the handsome barista who served him the first day. In the following weeks, everything unravels - Essek's life, his feelings, and the friends he suddenly finds himself having. Learning to become your better self is hard work, it turns out.
What I loved about it: This fic gave me that perfect taste of the "I don't care about the results of my actions but oh no, I have friends and I think I developed a conscious" but also "this iced mocha is life changing". I loved the entirety of this fic, it was as much a fluffy coffee shop au as it was a story of unlearning and coming to terms with your actions. I almost wish it was a longer slow burn!
_____
3 read between the lines (Everything is gradual)
read between the lines (everything is gradual) (3047 words) by Chanse @spottedenchants Chapters: 1/1 Rating: General Audiences Series: Part 1 of in which caleb owns a cat café Summary: Caleb’s gaze roams, his eyes narrowing in a manner Essek can only deem analytic. If this was all a hazing prank-- “You are Jester’s… acquaintance?” Lovely. Even better. His reputation precedes him. - AKA a fateful encounter is had on one sunny day in Nicodranas
What I love about this: This is part one in a hefty cat café universe (I know it says one chapter but I think there are at least like 14 parts??)- and all of it is absolutely adorable. Caleb owning a magical cat café is honestly the most wholesome and expected thing. You've got the high strung disaster hot boy, you've got the mostly confident ginger magic man just interacting so awkwardly. If you like disaster first encounters that evolve into the cutest of relationships- this entire universe is for you. Oh and also, in later parts, Frumpkin is in charge of the cats and his thoughts are a jellicle dream.
___
On to the shorts list!
(not that these are short listed- rather they are literally just shorter in word count fics)
4 The Nicodranas Harbor
The Nicodranas Harbor (2220 words) by TheBeeIsLost (if you know them here please let me know so I can tag them!) Chapters: 1/1 Rating: General Audiences Summary: Essek didn't want to be here, but he didn't have a choice in the matter. after weeks of keeping himself cooped up in his own home he decides to finally go out and see what all the fuss about this city is. He found a bit more than he thought he would.
What I loved about it: This fic was an absolute whirlwind. Essek leaves the house one time and stumbles upon a ginger wizard barista who has him completely rattled. Very short, very sweet, and Essek Thelyss will be back.
___
5 serve with lemon and honey
Serve with lemon and honey ((1032 words) by quothhh (if you know them here let me know so I can tag!). Chapters: 1/1 Rating: Teen and up Audiences Summary: "I don't suppose you can brew me anything stronger than chai today?" Essek asks as he sits at his regular seat along the bar, fingers rubbing at the Ludinus-shaped migraine already pulsing between his temples.
Caleb laughs and tucks his book under the counter. "Ja, actually, I think I can.”
-
In which Caleb Widogast is definitely just a barista and Essek Thelyss definitely isn't a Dynasty spy.
What I love about this: The absolute wizard flirting is so lovely in this fic. It is in two parts! I do wish this world was explored more, it would have made a lovely longform. But as it is, it is wonderful. Just two- normal- absolutely not magical, absolutely not a spy, guys, just at a teashop/art gallery/bookstore/apothecary. Oh and there's a recipe in the notes of the first part *chefs kiss*.
________ And as always- I will happily accept shadowgast recs and theme recommendations for future lists! Up next: I want to do a corporate/business AU list.

HOWLING VALLEY VINTON CLAN HOMEWORLDS 8 NOVEMBER 3047
The night sky of Vinton's northern continent was exceptionally clear. Stars were not only visible, but appeared to fill the heavens like iridescent grains of sand. Rose's Shadow Cat was nestled into a crack in the canyon's sloped wall, its upper body nosed out just enough to let her sensors scan the area. And enough to give her an incredible view.
MechWarrior Rose had never seen a sky like this. She was used to the nearly opaque clouds of Bearclaw, where she had spent her whole life before this tour of duty began. Even on Paxon, Rose had only seen pink daytime skies. The Ghost Bear 68th Striker Cluster had been engaged in training exercises prior to their departure for Vinton; Rose had spent nights on Paxon in the barracks or carousing with her starmates in the covered promenade in Thermopolis.
A soft blip in her ear and a faint point on her tactical display alerted Rose that her active probe was picking up a fusion engine beginning its warm-up cycle. She activated her radio to send a tightbeamed message to her Star's commanding officer, Star Captain Stunner Tseng, in his Mad Dog tucked away in another niche just a few dozen meters up the canyon. "Star Captain, the Smoke Jaguars are readying to move. I see one, now two units firing up."
"Affirmative." Tseng offered no further acknowledgment. He had always been taciturn in the field. Rose knew that he was now sending a low-power confirmation signal to Bravo Striker Star. Star Commander Noelle would meet the Jaguars on the field, but well ahead of the Jaguars' anticipated site for the conflict, giving the second-line 'Mechs of Bravo Striker the advantage. Once the Jaguars' second star began nearing the fight, Alpha Ranger Star would power up, sweep up the canyon to a washout that granted access to the ridgeline road, and strike the Jaguars from the rear.
In the night sky, a beacon was suddenly lit. Was it a DropShip's engines? No, it was unmoving. Rose realized it was the Theta Phyxidis nova beginning its flare period. An eager merchant on Paxon had told her about the event, only visible every seventeen years or so, which was celebrated locally with a week-long festival. At the time, Rose had dismissed it as lower-caste foolishness. Now, alone in her powered-down cockpit, she could see how one might get caught up in the romanticism of it. It would be even more brilliant on Paxon than on the more distant Vinton.
The Jaguar Star had fully powered up. It took several moments for her probe to sort out their models and configurations, cycling through multiple possibilities before settling on a final determination: Lynx C, Stormcrow A, Nova B, Griffin IIC, and Ebon Jaguar Prime. The 'Mechs made good speed up the ridgeline road, approaching Alpha Ranger's hiding spot none the wiser. Rose sent the data to Tseng and waited for the second Star of 'Mechs to appear on her display, but the screen continued to show no further units. Only when the Jaguar Star passed directly overhead did Rose understand: the second Star was a full Star of Elementals, each Point hitching a ride on a 'Mech. That had been what had briefly confused her sensors.
"Star Captain, every one of those 'Mechs is loaded with Elementals," she tightbeamed. "Bravo Striker will be overwhelmed while they wait for us to arrive."
Tseng's reply was immediate. "Just the data, Warrior; leave the tactical analysis to your commanders."
"Aff, Star Captain."
"But I agree with your assessment." Tseng switched to the regular radio on the Star's frequency. "Alpha Ranger, we are moving early. Form up on me. We will intercept the Jaguars on the ridge. Bravo Striker will reinforce us. Sending tactical data now."
Rose recognized her cue and instructed her tactical computer to share its information with the rest of the Star. Then she engaged the engine power-up sequence and watched her HUD cycle go through its boot cycle.
Tseng's Mad Dog finished coming to full power at the same time as Rose's Shadow Cat. She stepped into place beside him and a little back, echelon right formation. Aster's Crossbow A, Deman's Conjurer, and Susan's Ice Ferret B followed suit. Rose loved the Shadow Cat's low-slung lope, its hunter's stride, weapons high and ready. She loved seeing her starmates to either side, loved the beauty of the formation before battle broke its measured lines.
The engines' signals had caught the Jaguars' attention. They were beginning to turn about to face Alpha Striker. Tseng's voice crackled through the radio. "Susan, Aster, make for that washout. I will be right behind you. Rose, Deman, bring up the rear and keep an eye on those Elementals. If they begin hopping off their rides, jump to the ridge and hold them in place as best you can. Let us keep their attention until Bravo Striker arrives."
"Aff, Star Captain," Rose said in chorus with her starmates.
Susan spoke up. "I wager the next round of drinks that I will take two points by myself before Bravo Star gets here."
"Keep it down, cubs," Tseng said, affably.
Rose settled her fingers on her triggers and grinned in anticipation.
++++++++++
The Shadow Cat wasn't heavy enough to completely crush the final Elemental warrior under its foot. Two squeezes of the laser interlock finished the job. HarJel poured in vain over the empty space where the warrior's upper torso had been. Sparks fell from a short in the Cat's active probe, showering through its rent cowling to sizzle in the black mess below.
Deman's Conjurer lay peeled open, a victim of the powered infantry's quick work; four Elemental corpses lay in the wreckage of the second-line 'Mech. Though given just how tough Elemental warriors were, perhaps dismissing them as dead was a foolish conclusion. Deman himself had been dragged out of his cockpit and torn apart. Rose didn't let herself think about it. File it as an honorable death and move on.
Next target. The Nova and Griffin IIC had leaped down into the canyon and were harassing Tseng. As was expected from combined-arms combat (and from Jaguars in general), zellbrigen had been a formality that had been quietly and hastily ushered off the field. Both 'Mechs peppered the Mad Dog with fire, trying to keep Tseng pincered between them. But he was wily and knew how to use the terrain to his advantage.
A shriek of anger snapped Rose's attention to the remainder of her Star. The Stormcrow and Ebon Jaguar were both focusing their fire on Aster's Crossbow; it was already missing both arms. Susan loped her Ice Ferret into the fray, SRMs firing as fast as they would cycle, blind to the enemy Lynx closing on her flank.
Tseng could handle himself. Aster and Susan were less seasoned and had fallen into a trap. Not that I am any more battle-hardened than they, Rose thought. They needed Rose's help more than her commander did.
Rose pushed her Shadow Cat to flanking speed and ran for the fracas. She twisted slightly, alpha striking into the Lynx's already damaged right torso without slowing her pace. The superstructure of the entire torso-hip assembly melted away, and the engine flared before engaging emergency shutdown, crumpling the 'Mech into an immobile pile of limbs on the ground. She kept running, turning now to fire another Gauss slug into the Stormcrow, crushing its LRM launcher.
Rose snapped her radio to wide-band. "Pilot of the Ebon Jaguar, I am Warrior Rose of Clan Ghost Bear, and I challenge you to single combat."
All firing stopped. The Ebon Jaguar twisted to face Rose, moving like a living thing. They're good, whoever they are, Rose thought.
"Very well, brave little bear cub," the pilot replied. The Stormcrow began stepping back. After a moment's hesitation, Aster limped her Crossbow to the side, and Susan followed suit. Not quite a Circle of Equals, but good enough.
Rose opened the Shadow Cat's throttle and took off running on a slanted approach vector. The Ebon Jaguar let off a full salvo. An autocannon slug caught her 'Mech's left shoulder, damaging the actuator. Laser fire stitched up one leg, and the Gauss round slammed into the other, but the missiles went wide. Rose fired her lasers, barely aiming; she was counting seconds and tracking the enemy pilot's own tracking of Rose. The torso stayed locked onto Rose's approach, but the arms were a little slower in following. That meant the pilot was focusing on obtaining a missile lock over aiming their direct-fire weapons. Or so Rose was betting. Her life was the ante for that wager.
...two, one, now! The moment Rose figured the heavy weapons had cycled on the Ebon Jaguar, she dug in with one leg, pushed off to the side, punched her jump jets, and streaked into the air on a plume of blue plasma. Her juke worked, and ammunition flew fruitlessly beneath her. She wasn't entirely lucky; half the flight of LRMs and both SRMs connected with her legs as she flew, stripping the remainder of the armor and damaging a foot actuator. Rose's landing was rough, but she wrenched herself upright through sheer will. There was the Ebon Jaguar's untouched rear armor, begging to be attended.
The Gauss round flew first, tearing into the Ebon Jaguar's left torso and setting off the LRM ammunition stored within. The lasers went into the center torso and scored deep gouges in the 'Mech's engine shielding. The enemy pilot tried to turn their right side to face Rose and bring their own Gauss rifle to bear, but the Shadow Cat was inside the rifle's minimum range. Rose easily slid under the shot and went back to work on the enemy 'Mech's exposed rear. Two more pulls of the laser interlock trigger, and the Ebon Jaguar went down.
Riding high on adrenaline, Rose turned to face the Stormcrow. As she activated her mic to issue another challenge, however, another voice came through on the radio. "Bravo Striker is here, Star Captain. Ready to receive target assignations."
Sure enough, there was Bravo Star coming down the ridgeline road, pristine and looking to raise hell. The Stormcrow thought better of taking on seven 'Mechs at once and signaled the power-down of its weapons.
After a few moments, Star Captain Tseng came through on the radio. "Bravo Striker, the enemy has surrendered. The Elemental manufacturing facility is ours." He was out of breath, and static interference from what was likely a damaged engine threatened to overwhelm his radio, but he was still alive.
The lead 'Mech of Bravo Star, a Rifleman IIC, stepped forward to survey the field. Star Commander Noelle let out a low whistle. "You have left nothing for us, Alpha Ranger. What are we supposed to do here? Take potshots at birds?"
Rose finally relaxed her grip on her sticks and let herself slump in her command couch. "You could always indulge in a little stargazing, Star Commander," she said. "Theta Phyxidis is lovely tonight."

Yuletide Recs, part 1
Yuletide Recs, Round 1 (from most recently read, backwards):
After the Sun Has Set (5618 words) Fandom: Spider-Gwen (Comics)
I don't really know this storyline, but Marvel should definitely hire this author to pitch for it; they just made a sale. The Gwen voice is fabulous, the plot is a lot of fun, there are cats, and Foggy/Matt are still a thing even if Matt is a creep. As Gwen says of Matt: “I want to pet your hair and feed you peanuts.” Mouth filter, who dat?
lilacs out of the dead land (3047 words) Fandom: Jane Eyre - Charlotte Brontë
This is not a happy story. But it is empowering for Jane and phenomenally thought provoking. Heed the tags!
Hidden Truths (1348 words) Fandom: Hogan's Heroes (TV 1965)
Awesome team fic from Hogan's POV! It manages to capture the seriousness of their situation and the loyalty between the characters.
Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star (1628 words) Fandom: Galaxy Quest (1999)
Gwen's POV on the aftermath is just lovely. There are great tidbits about how she copes with the help of people who care about her, her career, and her relationships with the rest of the cast.
What though the mast be now blown overboard (3992 words) Fandom: Wars of the Roses RPF, Moby Dick - Herman Melville
OMFreakinG! Richard (III) of York and Henry (VI) of Lancaster, members of the feuding Nantucket whaling families, are rescued at sea by Captain Ahab. Well, Starbuck really. It only gets weirder and more hilarious from there. Fabulous, witty dialogue and the characterizations are a peach.
Bearer of Good News (1625 words) Fandom: King Arthur: Legend of the Sword (2017)
My wonderful gift! Nonny really dug in to a missing scene from the movie and painted an incredibly revealing portrait of Goosefat Bill's past, present, and future!

The Mana Family Disaster
Yeeee, have some second/third gen beyond the sunrise stuff that no one asked for 😌
Tws: Parental death, sadness, and just- ye- if I forgot anything lemme know-
Tagging people who might like this idk @logic-cat @joshkatz @ccaimsey @valastaire @thatsmycigarbutyoucanborrowit @orionsounds @r3tr0sp3ct
WC: 3047
----------------------------------------------------
How the man had gotten into the castle, no one knew. There was protective magic all around, someone like him shouldn’t’ve been able to get anywhere near the castle. However, he did, in the dark of night, the light from the stars covered by the dark clouds.
The man had planned his attack for months, learning the layout of the castle, where each of the royalty's rooms were. All just down the hall from each other, the room closest to the kings and queen's room, their oldest son, the crown prince at nineteen. He’d had a few interactions with Cecil, though most of the time the older boy could be seen running through the halls after one of his brothers.
The one across the hall from Cecil’s was the second oldest, Eric. This child was almost identical to his father at fifteen, from looks to personality. To the mercenary, the thought of a copy of Elliot Mana made his blood boil.
Next to Cecil’s room was the room of the youngest two princes, each eleven. Shane and Ryan, and in the mercenary's eyes, both would be better suited for street entertainment than to ever be considered royalty.
Across from the room of the twins, was the room for the youngest of the siblings, seven year old princess Bea. The mercenary had no vendetta against the young girl, yet she was included in the plan.
Elliot Mana was to feel pain.
The man had no right to sit on the throne and then act like he could befriend the citizens. The king had no right pretending he could ever know the things that happened in the towns.
The rooms would all be empty, he knew it. There was a thunderstorm going on, and while the two oldest boys enjoyed them, Shane, Bea, and Ryan despised the noise. No, the entire family would be in the room with the queen, while the king was dealing with an urgent late night summoning.
Opening the door to the room, the mercenary's eyes settled on the family as the queen's eyes met his, before trailing to the sword in his hand.
“Elliot!” Annalise’s scream broke the stillness that had settled in the room before the mercenary had the feeling of magic tugging at him. Cecil’s magic, if he really were to think about it. He was one of two, though Bea’s magic was much weaker than her brothers, being seven. Despite his own magic, Cecil’s was stronger, throwing the man against the wall.
While the intruder was dazed, Annalise helped the kids up, Bea letting out a whimper as thunder crashed, lightning illuminating the room. Cecil picked her up, looking at his mom with wide eyes.
“Everyone- come on, hide-”
At Annalise’s command, Cecil took off with Bea, Eric going off on his own, sliding around corners as Annalise ran through the servant's tunnels with the twins.
As Cecil ran with Bea in his arms, he could feel her magic beginning to stir, and took a deep breath to calm his own. Bea’s magic was weaker than his, so the chances of it getting them found were less. But what had disturbed him was the feeling of the intruder's magic. Someone with intentions like that shouldn’t have been able to get past the protective spells.
Cecil was panting, in his panic, he didn’t know where in the castle he was. All he knew was that he was hot, he had no clue where he was, he had no weapons on him, and he had a whimpering seven year old in his arms.
“Cece- I want daddy-”
At Bea’s whimper, Cecil pulled Bea even closer, taking deep breaths as he walked. “I know kid..I know, we’re gonna be fine- I’m gonna find dad-”
As he spoke, the feeling of magic at use once again surrounded him. At first, his panicked mind associated the chill that came with the magic as Elliot’s, but the calm that would always accompany it never came. Instead, the cold only seemed to get more intense, Bea beginning to whimper even louder in his arms.
Immediately, Cecil whipped around, flinging his hand to try and send the mercenary away, only to find his magic useless against the man's shield.
“Daddy! Daddy-!” Bea began screaming, her wails loud and terrified in Cecil's hold. “Daddy!”
Putting up his own magic shield, Cecil did something he hadn’t done since he was a child and had nightmares in his sleep. He began to yell for Elliot.
“Dad!”
As Elliot ran through the halls, he could hear the yells of two of his kids. Not only that, his oldest and his youngest. Bea’s screaming was loud in his ears, but what caused more panic to course through his veins was Cecil yelling. That was something he hadn’t heard in years.
“Bea! Cecil!” Elliot called, sprinting as he turned corners, listening to the wails of his daughter, and the barely concealed fear of his son.
“DAD!”
Cecil’s yelling got even more desperate once he heard his dad's voice, Elliot pushing himself to run faster towards it. Cecil’s magic shield, in his panic, had fallen, Bea beginning to wail even louder as Cecil pressed himself against the wall, trying to shelter his little sister.
“It’s okay- it’s okay honey, it’s okay Bea, I’ve gotcha- I’m not gonna let anything happen to you.”
Elliot could hear the quiet speaking of Cecil now, hear his shaking voice, calling again. “Cecil! Bea!”
Hearing Elliot yell, Bea began yelling for him more, her sobs making her words indistinct. “Daddy!”
His sword drawn, Elliot skidded around the corner, before the overwhelming chill of the intruder's magic hit him. He recognized the spell, one that weakened the magical abilities of others in the area. The cold nearly froze him, the spell shocking his mind, and he watched as Cecil sank to the ground, curling himself around Bea. He was only 19, he shouldn’t be risking his life for his sister.
Fighting through the feeling of the magic, Elliot took his first swing at the intruder. Almost immediately, the focus on the spell dropped, the cold dissipating as the other man began to fight Elliot. Once the magic dropped, Cecil immediately put up his own shield, pulling Bea even closer as she began struggling.
“Daddy- daddy!”
Bea’s wailing got louder as she tried to squirm out of Cecil’s arms, Cecil only holding her tighter as he rocked back and forth. “Shhh- dad’s gotta focus, shhh-”
As he rocked, he tried covering Bea’s eyes, she shouldn’t see this. Both the intruder and Elliot were bleeding, and as Bea moved her face to see, there were two loud, pained gasps.
Both of the men had struck each other at the same time, Elliot’s sword finding home in the intruder's chest, the intruder's sword embedded in Elliot’s stomach as both fell.
“Dad-! Bea, sit down- sit down!”
Cecil’s voice was commanding as he put his sister on the ground, tuning out her wails as he ran to Elliot’s side, his magic beginning to go haywire as he pulled the sword out. “Hey Cec..” Elliot manages, flinching as Cecil puts his hands over the wound, beginning to mutter a healing spell softly, his face losing all color as nothing happens.
“No- no, that should’ve worked- that should’ve worked-!”
Cecil’s voice gets faster the more the panic takes over, Bea remaining where she was, her wails only increasing.
Soon, more guards were running over, Annalise coming with the twins towards the commotion, freezing upon seeing Elliot on the floor, Cecil trying uselessly to heal the wound.
“Dad- dad, come on- please- Ailel Bex, Ailel Faye, Ailel Cadmus- please, please- work- godsdamn you, work!”
As a guard tried pulling Cecil off, Bea ran to Annalise, hugging her leg and crying as she was picked up. “Daddy- I want daddy-”
Annalise nodded, handing Bea off to Eric, who had appeared, now also staring wide eyed at the scene in front of him.
Taking Cecil from the guard, who was having trouble holding the struggling boy, she looked on as the guards help Elliot up, and into one of the empty rooms nearby.
“Cecil- Cec, it’s okay- you’re okay. Honey, it’s okay, listen to me. You did what you could, alright? It’s okay..”
Once in the embrace of Annalise, Cecil’s wall broke, hugging onto his mother with blood soaked hands, sobbing.
“I couldn’t fix it- mom, I couldn’t fix it-”
As Cecil sobbed, Annalise brushed his hair away from his face, holding him close. “I know…I know, it’s okay honey, it’s okay..”
While Elliot was helped into the room, he ran his hand over the wound. Something felt off about it, he just couldn’t place what it was. But as the healers helped remove the tattered and bloodied shirt, he finally settled on it. The injury had the feeling that had been in the air when he had been fighting the man, a cold that had begun to chill Elliot to his bones.
“No wonder Cec couldn’t heal this…
The wound kept on its bleeding, each healer coming in, trying their best to heal their king. It was concerning to anyone who knew the king, looking at the once lively king who was now bedridden, the wound on his side not stopping its bleeding.
As the last healer walked into the room, Elliot simply shook his head. “It’s not even worth it.”
Poking his head into the room, Cecil looked at his father on the bed. The man's face was drained of some of its color, but despite the amount of pain he was in, he still had a comforting smile as the young healer failed.
“It’s alright…it’s a curse, there’s nothing you’d have been able to do.” He assures the healer, patting her hand with a smile.
Slipping in quietly, Cecil sat on the chair next to the bed, his lip trembling. He’d been trying to hold himself together, but Eric looked numb, the twins were quiet, and Bea had gone silent. He had to hold himself together, he had to-
“Hey Cec..”
At the nickname from his father, Cecil broke, tears beginning to fall down his face as Elliot managed to pull the boy to lay on the side opposite the stab wound.
“Dad- dad, I’m sorry- I’m so sorry-” the boy sobbed, burying his face into Elliot’s shoulder, Elliot managing to pull Cecil closer.
“Cec…Cecil, it’s okay, you did all you could…you stayed alive, it’s okay…you being alive is all that I could ask of you..”
“Please don’t go, dad, please- please, please-”
Cecil's cries were pitiful, every emotion from the past few days pouring out. His mind was churning, each thought piercing into his brain like a knife, causing fresh waves of pain and fear to flow, leading him to this. Sobbing into his dying dad's shoulder.
“Cec…do me a favor? Get everyone in here?”
As Elliot spoke, his voice got softer, his face losing more color as fear began to take over Cecil’s.
“Don’t say goodbye- don’t tell me that’s what you’re doing, that makes it sound like we’ll never see each other again, please- please-”
He knew he was pathetic, he was holding on too tight, he’d have to let go, but he couldn’t. Not of this. Not of his dad.
“Cecil…please...”
At the whisper from his father, Cecil ran from the room, towards where his mom was with his siblings. Upon finding them, all sat in Eric’s room, his face fell a bit more.
The twins were playing a game with some figurines Elliot had gotten them, and Bea was sitting on Eric’s lap, the older boy trying to get her to laugh, though it wasn’t working. When Cecil slid into the room, Annalise stood up to meet him, smoothing back his hair and kissing his forehead upon seeing the tear streaks on his face and his red eyes.
“Dad wants- he wants to see us all- and- and mom, I don’t wanna say goodbye- I don’t want to, I don’t want to say goodbye-”
Annalise hushed him gently, reassuring him before picking Bea up from Eric’s lap and gesturing for him to follow Cecil.
“Shane, Ryan, come on..we’re going to see dad,” Cecil instructed, helping the two pick up their toys, stowing them on a shelf before following Annalise and Eric. The room was unsettlingly quiet, instead of the life and loudness that usually surrounded Elliot, it was now silent, somber, and cold.
At the sight of her dad, Bea jumped out of Annalise’s arms, running to the bed and climbing up, curling into his side silently, clinging to his shirt.
“There’s my little girl..you don’t wanna talk? Alright, that’s okay, all okay..just promise me one thing hon?”
At that Bea looks up, tilting her head as she looks at Elliot.
“Make sure your brothers don’t do anything stupid? I know that’s hard since they’re so silly, but-”
At that, Bea begins giggling quietly, pushing her head into his neck with a quiet, “I love you daddy.”
Soon after, Eric, Shane, and Ryan are all curled on the bed as well, Bea now curled up on Elliot’s chest, her eyes shutting as she falls asleep. Hushed words of comfort fell from Elliot’s mouth as he holds his kids close, whispered goodbyes and assurances before Annalise ushers them out.
The only people left in the room were Annalise, Cecil, and Elliot, with Bea asleep on her father's chest.
“Cec…I promise it’s going to be just fine..” Elliot whispered, pulling his oldest into his side. The boy nodded, looking at his dad's face.
“I’m scared to lose you..” “And that’s okay. And if it hurts, when it hurts, just know I’m always going to be with you, no matter how old you are and how far you travel.”
Cecil nods tearily, Elliot turning his head in order to kiss Cecil’s, before the boy stands up, taking Bea off of Elliot’s chest, hugging Annalise before walking out.
“Anna..” Elliot’s voice was soft as Annalise took a seat on the side of the bed. “We’ll see each other again. I promise you, if only in a dream.”
Annalise nodded, trying to push back her tears. To the side of the bed there was a basin with warm water, and a cloth, so she gently wet the cloth, beginning to clean the wound. Worthless, useless, but it was something to focus on.
“Anna…smile for me..?” Elliot asked, looking at his wife. And all those years later, Elliot still had that same look on his face as he looked at her, just the same as he had on the day he first asked her out, and each time after, the same way he had looked at her on their wedding day.
A small smile came onto her face as she realized this before it fell as her hands were met with the warmth of the still dripping blood.
“This isn’t fair. We- we should’ve had more- we should’ve had more time- Elliot, we should have more time-!”
Annalise’s voice breaks as she speaks, looking over Elliot, looking at his face as he nods with a saddened look on his face.
“I know my dear…if I could make it so that this isn’t happening, I would. But I wouldn’t trade me being in this situation if it meant any of you would be in this situation. I love you Annalise, and I’ll always love you..”
With a poorly concealed pained noise, Elliot moved to sit up, cupping Annalise’s face gently, kissing her.
The kiss felt warm, it felt right, full of love and yearning. It was desperate, it was terrified, it was a kiss filled with so many emotions, none of which the two could put into words.
“Promise me I’ll see you soon. Promise me Elliot, promise.”
“I promise my queen..”
Elliot leaned back, his hand cupping Annalise’s face softly as he lay in his bed, gently bringing his thumb across her cheek, wiping her tears. Slowly, the movement of his hand stopped, his hand falling limp as he finally lost consciousness.
The minutes seemed like hours as Annalise sat there, holding Elliot’s hand, kissing it softly, waiting at his side. Slowly, the rise and fall of Elliot’s chest slowed down until it fell still, the heart in his chest no longer beating.
Sobs began to wrack the queen, each getting louder in volume until she was nearly screaming. Down the hall, in Eric’s room, Cecil’s head shot up as he heard it, and he quickly waved his hand, muting all outside sounds, looking to Eric with a, “stay here!”
Taking off out the door, Cecil ran into the room, his eyes first landing on his sobbing mother, before flicking over to his father, who was laying on the bed, still and silent.
Pushing aside the immediate flood of thoughts, Cecil ran to Annalise, turning her away from the bedside, muttering softly as he holds her hands, the blood vanishing as the spell was cast.
“Let the healers take him- c’mon mom-”
Cecil’s voice was soft as he brought Annalise to his room, sitting with her, hugging her as tightly as he could. Both were shaking, each holding onto the other as they sat. No one in the castle was calm that night, and an empty feeling began to fill the once lively castle.
Days later, the body of Elliot Mana was sealed in the crypt alongside his parents, and all the kings and queens that had come before them.
The queen watched as they sealed the crypt, holding her children close as Elliot was laid to permanently rest.
Cecil, the oldest who would one day be taking his father's throne, stood there silently, staring numbly with his sister in his arms.
Eric, the second, who matched Elliot in looks and personality, stood clinging to Annalise, his head buried in her shoulder.
The twins, Shane and Ryan, each one clinging to one of their mom's legs, for once silent as they saw their dad for the last time.
And the youngest, Bea, sat in Cecil’s arms, her head buried into his shoulder as her body heaved with sobs.
But even so, with the family watching as the crypt was sealed?
No one made a sound.

Friends to lovers- Atsumu x Liz
@haikyuuublog
g/n-girl's name
B/n-Boyfriends name
L/n- Last name
I don't know yours lol ^
-3047 words-
"Atsumu!!" He looked at you as you ran into the gym.
"Hey!"
"Hi..." You sighed, bending over to catch your breath. "I made it, phew."
"Ya beat yer new record." You both laughed, you hugged him before backing up. Right on time Atusmu's girlfriend walked in.
"Oh, hi, Liz"
"G/n. Hi, so are we still thinking about Saturday?" Atsumu's girlfriend and him furred their brows. "Dinner with me and B/n. Remember?"
"Oh, yeah, we can make it."
"Oh, it's fine. So, Tsumu, what are we doing for our traditional Friday nights?"
"OH, I totally forgot about that, is it okay if I skip it?" Skip it? "I sort of promised G/n, I'd take her out." You forced a smile, that's 5 times in the past 5 weeks.
"Oh, it's fine... I'll just invite B/n over instead." Atsumu felt as if you were replacing him, but to be honest he's never around anymore to replace. "I'll see you at practice?" You asked.
"Oh, practice was cancelled." You looked at his girlfriend.
"Oh, okay, well... see you whenever I guess..." You frowned as you walked home.
The next 5 weeks were hell, everytime you'd see Atsumu, he'd wave but then his girl would pull him away. You haven't seen him since, you sighed and walked over to your boyfriend. "Hey, love."
"Hey, everything okay?"
"Hm, yeah." He looked at you and rolled his eyes.
"Bummed about what's his face?"
"Atsumu, how many times do I have to tell you his name. And he's my best friend."
"Right, think about this, if he's your so called best friend, he wouldn't be ignoring you and blowing you off." You rolled your eyes, knowing he's right. "And I'm tired of you talking about him."
"I miss him, it's been 10 weeks since we hung out."
"Oh, I'm sorry, am I not enough?" Where is this coming from?
"Of course you are, I'm just saying-"
"I'm not having this conversation." You frowned as he walked away, you leaned against your locker slowly sliding down it.
"Ya know moping isn't going to help." You groaned before looking at the male. "What was that about?"
“Osamu, do you know they say curious it’s killed the cat?”
"Well, when it includes my brother, something's going to die." You both laughed lightly, he joined you on the floor hitting your knee softly. "What's up?"
"I haven't hung out with your brother in 10 weeks." Osamu looked at you confused.
"Really? He usually can't go one day without seeing ya, did something happen?"
"His girlfriend happened..." Osamu looked at you and sighed.
"Ya know, the damn idiot won't stop talking about ya. He's worried. He feels as if yer replacing him."
"He's never around to be replaced, Samu. It'd be one thing if he was, but he's not. It's like I don't exist when she's around... Was practice cancelled the other day?"
"Huh? No, ya know we only cancel practice when it rains or something major came up."
"Right, of course. She lied..."
"Hey, would a hug from a guy who looks like your best friend but better, help?" You laughed a little, nodding your head. He wrapped his arms around you, bringing you in. "Just pretend I'm Tsumu, mk?"
"Okay... but it's not the real thing..." You frowned into his shirt sighing. "I miss your brother..."
"But I'm right here..." You pulled away and looked behind you seeing Atsumu frowning. "What ya doing?"
"Comforting ya best friend since ya can't."
"What's that suppose to mean?!" You sighed, Osamu got up and frowned.
"Ya hurting ya best friend, you idiot. That's what I mean, am I gonna have to go behind ya and pick up the pieces?"
"Ya don't have to pick up anything because they're is nothing to pick up!" You sighed standing up.
"Boys..."
"Ye? Where have ya been the past 10 Fridays?" You frowned as Atsumu looked at you, but you wouldn't meet his eyes. "I'll tell ya where, not with Liz, the girl you promised since we were 8 ya'd stay over and eat till ya puke every Friday night. Na. Ya can't keep complaining to me asking if she's replacing ya, because ya aren't around to be replaced." Osamu's voice was calm, it was since the beginning of the fight.
"I..."
"What? Too busy up ya girlfriend's ass to notice how bad ya hurting the one person who cares about ya?"
"Osamu, it's fine... Drop it." He looked at you and scoffed.
"Fine, fix ya own problems, then." You wanted to call out to him as he walked away, but you fought against it.
"Liz... I-"
"Just, forget about it, ye? You go back to your girlfriend. I'll go back to B/n... I hate feeling like a stranger to you, Atsumu, especially you. So if that's what she wants me to be, then fine. But... I can't do this. I can't see you and know you'd ignore me. Goodbye." You bumped your shoulder with his before walking down the hall. You turned the cornor looking behind it seeing him standing there confused, before shaking his head. He walked away before stopping down the end of the hall, looking at where you'd disappeared and scoffed.
"Fine." His cold voice filled the dead hallway. Just like that, you lost your best friend.
--
The past few weeks you got the job as manager of the volleyball team, which sucks. You'd always do your best to ignore Atsumu and G/n. You'd spent more time talking to Samu and Suna, but when no one was looking you looked at your best friend, he doesn't even look effected, not like you do. Everyone can honestly tell you can't sleep. Even Atsumu. But that's not his place to ask you if you were okay, you made that clear. You dragged yourself home resting against a fence, sighing. You haven't been eating much either. "Liz?" You can hear the voice, but everything was blurry and before you knew it, you were out like a light.
By time you came through, you noticed you were on a couch. You wanted to sit up, but voices told you otherwise.
"What is she doing here?" G/n.
"I found her before she passed out." You can't tell which twin is was.
"I won't her gone, Osamu."
"I'm sorry, do you have me mistaken for your boyfriend.? I know we're twins, but ya must be blind if ya trying to order me around. Ya don't own me, ya don't own my brother, so stop treating him like shit!"
"Oi, I'm home I heard..." You could hear his voice stop, you kept your eyes closed and pretended to be sleeping. "I... what is she doing here?"
"Found her before she passed out. Must of not been eating properly." You felt someone shuffle next to you, "Liz?" You opened your eyes slowly, meeting Osamu's eyes. "When was the last time ya ate?"
"Not since the..." You frown, trying to choke back tears, "not since..." You wanted to say why, but... you couldn't. Osamu's eyes widen as tears fell.
"Can't B/n take care of her, isn't this his problem?" You sobbed at his name, making Atsumu and Osamu confused and worried.
"Did he do something?" You wanted to scoff at how concerned Atsumu sounded, but all you could do was nod.
"I... I s-suppose it was m-my fault..." Osamu sighed before heading back into the kitchen, Atsumu took his brothers place, gently sitting you up.
"Ya feel so light..."
"Wow, thanks Tsumu." The old nickname running off your tongue made you finch.
"I didn't mean it like that." Osamu handed you some rice balls.
"Is this about that night ya called?" Atsumu looked at y'all confused.
"Night ya called? When did ya call?" You ignored Atsumu and nodded to his brother, eating the food, rather quickly. "When did she call?" His brother ignored him too.
"I'm sorry about what happened, Liz. You want anything?" You handed him the plate after finishing the two rice balls.
"No thank you, Samu." Atsumu hated this.
"Quit ignoring him!" You bit back your tongue and looked at your friend.
"Check your phone and ya know." Was all you said, before standing up. "Thank ya, Samu, I should get going."
"Wait hold up, what happened?" You scoffed and looked at him.
"It doesn't matter. Okay? We're not friends anymore."
"Yeah, ya sure as hell made that clear." Osamu sighed, he hated seeing y'all fight.
"Guys..." His girlfriend stood off to the side as well.
"What's that suppose to mean? I'm just giving your girlfriend what she wanted."
"What are ya talking about?" G/n was about to step in, but Osamu stopped her.
"What am I talking about? Seriously, is your head that far up her ass!" You yelled, stepping a little closer. "I don't what I did, but every time I see you, she always drags you away. And if I manage to see you it's always, I can't talk right now, bye, or I promised her I'd take her out, or I'm sorry, practice is cancelled, can't give me that excuse now, huh?" Atsumu frowned, not saying anything back. "You put this on yourself Atsumu... if you were really my best friend, you wouldn't of let her get between us like this. You would've called when B/n cheated on me, you would've been here instead of Samu. Your. Damn. Brother. Osamu was there. Suna was there. Kita, everyone, even Sakusa. But not the one person I needed the most, not the one person, who I love the most." Atsumu's eyes widen at your confession, Osamu's softened. He knew from the beginning of your crush on his twin, and when he got a girlfriend, you forced yourself to get a boyfriend, eventually falling for him. You were like his sister, but... he knew. He knew this would happen.
"Liz... I..."
"I think that's enough." You both looked at Osamu.
"Yeah, you should just leave." You looked back at Atsumu as his girlfriend spoke.
"Do you want me gone?" Atsumu tried to speak, but nothing came out, of course he didn't want you gone. "Fine. You picked your choice, Tsumu. I'm s-sorry for the pain... or hard ache I c-caused, it m-must of been p-painful. Congrats, now, you lost me..." You wiped your tears and walked the door, stopping to turn around to face him, "Just so you know, it was G/n, he cheated on me with." You said before walking out the house.
"Out." Atusmu looked back at his brother confused, was he kicking him out?
"Atsumu, I don't like his tone, tell him to treat me nicer." He looked down at her, that's when he realized, she wasn't you.
"I... no." She gasped looking at him.
"What?"
"Don't you think you've done enough the past few months?"
"What?"
"You just made me drive away the only person who understood me. Don't you think you've done enough?" Osamu stayed quiet, letting his brother talk.
"Excucse me?! That bitch was trying to take me from you. Why is everything about her?"
"She's my best friend, ya haven't even let me go near her in 20 weeks! Why didn't I get that call, G/n? Where were ya when I got that call?"
"What...?"
"The call from when her boyfriend cheated! Why didn't I get it?! Where were ya?!"
"Because I put your phone on air plane mode!"
"Was she telling me the truth? Did you sleep with B/n?"
"You're gonna believe her over me?!"
"I am when ya're not saying no! Ya did didn't ya?! That's why ya blew me off! Was all this a game to ya? Punish her through me?"
"I..."
"Did ya actually love me?"
"Atsumu, of course, I do. But, I fell... I love B/n, too."
"What about me?!" She jumped and took a step back as I took a step forward. "Ya'd thought ya'd use me and then go to him after it all?! I'm not a toy ya use and then throw it away when ya done! Why do ya hate her so much?!" I sighed as tears fell, Osamu never seen his brother look so... broken. "Why me? Why fuck with me if ya fell for someone else?" Osamu, pulled his brother back a little. "Why wasn't I good enough?"
"You were... you were more than enough, but... but then I found out she was in love with you." Osamu felt his brothers body relax a little in his arms. "I knew... I knew I had no chance, so... I played you, I made you fall for me hard so you'd have no choice but to forget her. Then... I'd break you both..."
"Get. Out!" She jumped as Osamu and Atsumu's cold voices spoke at once. She walked out of the house, Atsumu fell to the ground.
"I fucked up, Samu..."
"Yeah, ya did. What are ya going to do about it? Ya know she's planning on leaving right?"
"What?"
"Ye, her aunt's coming to get her, a taxi should be reaching her by now, it's not too late."
"Why are ya helping me?"
"Because yer my brother, ya deserve to get the girl. Especially Liz. She loves ya, ya love her, that simple. Now go, before it becomes too late." Atsumu didn't need to hear it twice before taking off to your house.
Once he reached you, you were about to get into the car, "Liz!" You stopped and rolled your eyes. You said something before looking at Atsumu.
"What? I think we said everything that had to be said, Atsumu."
"Ya never gave me the chance to talk."
"I don't have time for this," You said about to get in the car, it began to drizzle a little, how ironic.
"I knew!" You stopped at the sudden outburst, turning around to look at him.
"What?"
"I knew... the second I met ya, ya were gonna change my life. I knew that whatever I was going through, I wanted ya right next to me. I wanted ya by my side. And day by day I noticed ya changed." You crossed your arms and looked at him. "Ya were depressed, ya didn't sing much, smile much, write much. Ya became numb, I use to love watching ya sing to ya heart content, but I... I was the reason ya were like that. I didn't tell ya how I felt because I didn't want to ruin what we had as friends. So I started dating G/n. I declined the way I felt about ya, so I could stay in ya life. I watched ya date assholes all because I was scared to put myself out there. Then B/n... changed all that. Or so I thought. I ignored ya, not just because of G/n, but because I was jealous. I didn't want to see ya happy if it wasn't me making ya happy, Liz. Liz L/n, I've been in love with ya since we were 8. I learned how ya walked, talked, laughed, joked, yer sarcasm from yer serious, I learned how ya'd smile when ya wrote, the face ya make when ya'd sing. I learned everything about ya and I figured it out in two seconds. The fasts I've ever learned anything." You both laughed softly as he walked over to you, continuing his speech. "I knew... I always knew. Those feelings don't go away. They never did. I was afraid I hung out around ya, I'd end up kissing ya. I'd end up telling ya everything 'm telling ya now. I knew ya were happy with B/n, or at least I thought so, and I couldn't ruin that for ya. So I backed off... to let ya be happy. Because got damn it, it was hard. It took a lot of self-control, I didn't know I had. But 'm tired of backing off, I won't let ya date another asshole or anyone else... I want to be the only person who makes ya the happiest girl in the world. And I don't care if I sound selfish." He stopped walking when he was face to face with you. "Because loving ya, I have to be selfish because if 'm not. Someone will sweep yer beautiful ass right from under me. And I won't let that happen. I love ya." By time he was done, it was pouring, blending in with the tears that fell down your face. But neither of you cared, you wanted to slap him so bad, wanted to tell him he was an idiot.
"You're an idiot, Tsumu." He furred his brows as you laughed, he waited to see if you'd say anything after, but you were still surprised by his speech. "You are an idiot." Was all you can say. You shook your head, grabbing both his cheeks, pulling him down to your level, he smiled at how close you two were. "But I fell in love with this idiot." You crashed your lips to his, it was filled with passion. Longer. It was the type of kiss that made your knees weak and sent sparks bouncing through your veins. When y'all pulled away to catch your breaths, you both letting out nervous heavy breaths. Your faces still close, but this time he grabbed your waist pulling you close as he closed the gap. Kissing you with more force, more passion. His tongue gazed your bottom lip begging to explore your mouth. You allowed the request, opening your mouth letting your tongues dance against each other as the heat of the moment bathed you both. You both finally pulling away for air, "This is such a cheesy scene, chasing after me, and kissing me in the rain." You laughed pleased from the make out session you just had, the one you both longed for.
"I thought this was your perfect kiss fantasy? Kissing in the rain?"
"You remember that?"
"Of course, I remember everything about ya." He kissed you once more before paying your taxi driver, bringing you back to his house, where you both got scowled for probably getting sick and congratulated for 'manning up' and confessing.

hi everyone, im a trans latine person living in brazil, i was hit with unexpected expenses this month that i really wasnt counting on - car repair + everything had a surge in price including basics like natural gas, gasoline, eletricity, food so it really broke my back. also i would like if possible to buy some winter clothes (like a couple hoodies and a jacket) as ive gained weight with going on T and nothing really fits me anymore!!!
the currency exchange is 1 dollar = 5 reais (my currency) so every bit helps
i only have paypal as its the only thing that works here
paypal.me/deimosun (change currency to dollar) or [email protected]

What Our Grandmothers Taught Us
what our grandmothers taught us by ghostofcepheus
It comes to Midoriya one mundane evening, as he does his homework, that his strong platonic feelings for his two friends are also swirled with soulful romantic feelings.
It dawns on him softly in the least of traditional dramatic fashions. When it's time to take a break from mind-numbing homework, he picks up his phone and scrolls through messages in their groupchat. He mindlessly giggles and snorts at the random memes that Todoroki shares and Bakugou's videos of his sweet but demanding tabby cat. As a minor of a tradition that is picnics, sharing food and resting together introduced an unexpected sense of softness into their relationships with one another. When Midoriya stops at a specific message, it washes over him.

Shit Just Got Real
read it on the AO3 at https://ift.tt/2FN2Nr5
by PaintingWithWords (paint_with_words)
When one of his sponsors had first run the idea by him at the banquet after the Grand Prix a few months ago, Phichit had been more than a little skeptical. Share a house with nine other skaters for three months for a reality television show? God, sharing space with skaters at Pyeongchang for two weeks had been hard enough and there he’d had his own room. Doing it for reality television sounded like being stuck in a special kind of hell. He’d politely declined.
When Yuuri found out, he’d drunkenly draped himself across Phichit and begged him to join.
“You wanna be an… an… an influencer, right?” Yuuri had said, hanging all over him in a desperate effort to remain standing. “Well, this would help. Reality television is definitely th’ way t’ go. Vitya an’ I are gonna do it an’ it would be nice t’ have you there too.”
What finally sealed the deal for him was finding out that Chris had signed up.
Hell no had become Yes please in the space of a heartbeat. He’d never signed a contract so fast before in his life.

So Fresh So Clean
by chayabs
Cats like to clean themselves. They spend most of the day licking at their fur, clawing their skin, like obsessive-compulsives trying to reach germ-free nirvana. There’s something appealing about scrubbing your skin until its red and raw, the pain a reminder that you are clean again.
