Now we've gotten a 3rd "Rings of Power" fan account saying they've gotten slightly different takes on the role Calam Lynch is playing that is a mix of what Fellowship of Fans, The One Ring Net, Rings of Power Updates, and the leaks on Reddit said and new information. This also includes possible major spoilers about Celeborn, Halbrand/Sauron, Galadriel, Haladriel/Saurondriel, Celebrimbor, and more as well. They also provided new information about Charlie Vickers, as well as the role Gavi Singh Cherra is really playing. We'll finally be getting official spoilers from the US media, Amazon, and the cast/crew starting next month at the May Upfronts so we'll be able to cross reference all of these and get a clearer picture to what is correct or false as we get closer to season 2 airing this fall. Personally I'm excited but I totally understand why some fans are upset, especially since this sounds like the writers are taking a storyline from the books and giving it to a different character. The link to the article is in the comments but I've summerized it behind the cut.

Firstly the fansite Redanian Intelligence posted these. They're a fansite not just for "ROP" but also "The Witcher", "Games of Thrones", and other shows. They are usually pretty accurate with what they post too. Like FOF, they are saying that Calam Lynch has been cast as Celeborn but they also are saying he's playing two roles as Sauron does indeed shapeshift into Celeborn pretending that he came back from the dead/Valinor.

They're also saying Annatar isn't in the season but Sauron playing as Celeborn is what gets him back into Eregion. He pretends that the Valar gave him warning to come back and help the elves and that they have to create more rings and gets Celebrimbor to help.

However, the Annatar/Celebrimbor thing from the books is now changed to be Celeborn and Galadriel. Sauron pretends to be her husband and that he's helping them, but really it's not. It's not clear yet if the audience knows it's him but some are suggesting we might know it's Sauron/Halbrand possibly suggesting we see Charlie shapeshift into Calam and/or there are scenes were we the audience see it's really Charlie/Halbrand/Sauron instead of Calam/Celeborn.

So this is why the Celebrimbor fans are upset today and I totally understand as that is a major book change. Also since it's likely that Celebrimbor gets killed off at the end of the season too. At the same time being a Haladriel/Saurondriel shipper it'll show that they're one of the show's main relationships.

This site also says that in season 3 Calam will only play the real Celeborn, as Galadriel and everyone finds out the truth in the season finale, while Charlie goes back to being the only Sauron actor for the rest of the series. This I hope is true as I really only want the shapeshifting limited as it really should just be Charlie.

They're also claiming the show filmed multiple endings as a cliffhanger with Galadriel and Celeborn/Sauron. One is that she finds the real Celeborn and he's badly injured and we don't know if he'll live. Another is that Sauron as Celeborn tells her the real Celeborn is dead. A third is that she finds out Celeborn is still alive and being held prisoner but has to work with Sauron if she wants him back. Possible even more endings were filmed and not sure if Charlie was on set too but it's possible as FOF did have someone say Charlie and the other Sauron actor did film scenes at the same time.

They're also saying Galadriel and Celeborn/Sauron do kiss as well. One was saying it was the ending but it's possible since she thinks her husband came back they will have more kissing scenes. Very curious about this as if that's the case we're actually getting Haladriel/Saurondriel kissing scenes which I wanted but never thought would happen. LOL But now also wondering if we'll see the camera show us that it's Sauron/Halbrand kissing her too since again it's really them kissing.

This also would explain the chemistry tests too with Morfydd and Calam as he not only has to do one to be her husband but since he's playing another version of Sauron/Halbrand too so it has to match how it is between Morfydd and Charlie, who had a chemistry test in season 1. So we can say the show is doing a full fledged love triangle with them.

Then about Gavi, this site is saying the new race character he plays is a Stoor, the other Hobbit ancestor besides the Harfoots, and will have scenes with Nori and The Stranger. FOF and others confirmed that he was playing a new Tolkien race we hadn't seen yet.

I'm not really a supporter of annatar x celebrimbor ship coz I'm still angry for what that bish did to my baby.. But this.. This cover.. This reminded me of them but while listening to this cover on repeat gave me an idea.. The troupe is kinda cliché but hear me out..

A bit of a backstory....

Sauron in a guise of a very beautiful elf/maiar named Annatar had his eyes on both Lindon and Eregion with a goal on earning the trust of those who reside there and their leaders, but much to his dismay, it did not go well to his plan as the King of Lindon, Gil galad himself had become wary of him so he moved onto his next target.. Eregion. Not only this place is full of talented smiths and a gifted lord who rules them all but what he also sought in this place is non other than the Lady of Eregion(insert reader), celebrimbor's wife who was known despite of her gentle eyes and pure bright aura, is a smart lady who also have a temper that can rival her husband's fallen grandfather has, she is also a seasoned warrior who fought during the first age. He had always wanted to corrupt this light that the lady has and take her from the start but for the lady, the mere thought of her betraying her kin for power and darkness that she believes will soon be extinguished by the light made her guilty, but what made him more angry is that a certain lowly elf who came from a family of kinslayer managed to crawl his way into her heart

"What a shame" he thinks as the lady had given up on all the fame, reputation, position she has to be a wife of someone who is lower than her. On his mind he can't erase the thoughts on the what ifs that could happen if only she had agreed his proposal and what could they have done with her wits and skills.

The moment he stepped into the beautiful city of Eregion, the lady already had a bad feeling about this so-called "Lord of the Gifts" that despite his bright aura and kind natured persona, something doesn't feel right but couldn't express it to her husband who is delighted and very pleased on this said visitor for what knowledge he would give them so she decided to keep silent and just observe at first..

But she would oh so regret not telling him that..

As the years went on quickly their friendship also grew, This Annatar is the one that he needs, the one who would give him knowledge and power tp craft something new, something much greater that will surpass his grandfather's beautiful gems and will bring greater good to everyone but because of his thirst for knowledge he unknowingly shut the people who deeply cares about him.. Galadriel, Celeborn, even his own wife. He is so focused on what he was doing that he missed all those stares that Annatar had given her.

Until he finally did, Celebrimbor finally opened his eyes on what is happening. The regret and self loathe he had felt for shutting them out and trusting a demon. But it was too late, yes he managed to apologize and fix things between him and his wife/friends, he also managed to make and distribute the three great elven rings to their respective owners. But he is not ready for this war.. To witness the fall of the city he built, his pride and people, but he chose to stand amongst them and defend but was caught, tortured and slaughtered in a inhumane way..

Sorry for that long intro so here we are...

She was angry, mad.. No.. She was enraged and depressed to see the state her husband is in. The soldiers of Eregion(also with the help of their dwarve friends) dragged their lady out despite showing her unwillingness under Celebrimbor's command to protect her. Now she was staying in imladris drowning in her sorrows and the image of her poor husband on her mind. Her friends tries so hard to comfort her and be her solace but despite all of this, it just can't erase this madness inside of her, this anger that she worries that would just erupt if she won't do anything so she had a plan..

Being a (bad bitch and petty woman) smart and cunning woman she is, she wanted to give sauron the taste of his own medicine. So she went to Lindon and discussed with the king, but as she expected he openly and angrily turned her down as her being hurt and dying was the last thing his late friend/cousin wants. But for some reason she had managed to make him agree after some time as he is already worried of Sauron and his powers and this is his last resort for a higher chance of victory (she may or may have not made a powerpoint presentation of this and literally bugged gil galad everyday to listen for the pros of this plan)

(And as I said because she seeks vengeance and also petty) As a young girl, she had always believed the words "Do not do to others what you don't want to be done by you" and her plan is simple. She had always known Sauron's interest in her and used it to his downfall.. She pretended to be weak and drowned with madness and with the help of Gil galad, she managed to pretend that she was now a criminal who took the lives of her own kin out of madness because no one decided to be on her side and that she had no choice but to depend on Sauron which made him glad as not only he had the power that he wants but he also manages to corrupt this lady in front of him.. This went on for years, seducing him, showing that he is only devoted to him, Sauron really thinks that he already had her submit to him and that he has her in the palm of his hands (for some reason she really like playing with fire haha you get it? Fire cause celebrimbor's feänaro's grandchild and sauron is dangerous? Haha well no? Nvm) until the battle of last alliance came and Sauron himself decided to betray her and use her for the last time when she just uno reversed him and told him that she is the one that is being played all along.

In the end when the ring was taken away from him, he realized.. That from the start he was already defeated.. That he was the one who played with fire

OMG SORRY THIS WAS SO LONG AND I GOT LAZY AT THE END I'M SO SORRYYY BUT YEAH I HOPE YOU GOT MY POINT.. I'm not really good with vocabulary as english is not my first language but yeah...

Don't worry, I'm personally not a fan of the Annatar x Celebrimbor ship at all. I never liked the idea of pairing them, especially after what happened. It never sat well with me.

But I liked this, the whole manipulation game between Annatar and reader mostly. To even attempt to go against Annatar at his own game was such a risky move, but I liked it 💕. Don't worry about your English love, I understood everything >.<

i would have wanted him revealed differently and to see a bromance between celebrimbor and annatar but it wasn't even that bad but everyone is acting like halbrand as sauron is the worst thing ever

i lowkey think its because a lot of ppl wanted the halbrand x galadriel romance (and look i find celeborn boring and i'd like to think i'm pretty tolerant of lore changes but a sauron and galadriel pairing is a bit much even for me 😭) i was just excited to see it like halbrand appears as a random guy arrogant and charming and clever and then galadriel trusts him but it all becomes clear to her

and the amazing irony that she brought back the enemy to middle earth....but i admit it was also rushed but the way it was so quick made it more intense (and i also wanted long beautiful blonde hair annatar but thats fine)

Bisexual vers who has the reverse bisexual syndrome I do: he's attracted to like every man that walks the earth and then exactly one unattainable woman who was nice to him once ten years ago. (Celebrian)

Celrond <3 (closely currently followed by Brimbrond (Celebrimbor x Elrond) -- but that's on a VERY close tier with QPR!Gilrond and Celrondir)

Tie between Elrond & Erestor and Elrond & Celeborn right now, but this question always fluctuates for me. I've really been in a second age Elrond mood thanks to Rings of Power lately and have been thinking a LOT about what it must have been like to have been him at that period in his life when he was so utterly immersed in a purely Elvish and presumably overwhelmingly Noldorin court. Did anybody understand his sense of temperature? His need for sleep? His sense of time? His ability to get ill? Did he accept those things about himself and stand up for himself to get his needs met or did he try and keep up with everyone else (hint: in my head it's the latter). How lonely must his existence at Gil's court truly have been in the early half of the second age? Anyway -- I headcannon Erestor as Peredhel, and headcannon that Elrond met him sometime around this time and that it was somewhat of a revelation for him to discover that a) there are other people like him and b) that maybe some of the things that make him 'faulty' or 'eccentric' by Elvish standards are really just human (or maia) traits and actually are just fine & he shouldn't be suppressing them.

And then there's Celeborn, who I headcannon has a strong vested interest in helping Elrond come to terms with his Sindarin heritage, which largely goes ignored (but that Elrond seems to overwhelmingly align himself with in the books). If we're going with a kidnap fam timeline, then Elrond was probably raised to be ragingly culturally Noldorin, and then Gil's court as previously stated is super Noldorin as well and I headcannon that most people there tend to think of him in terms of "Earendillion" -- thus again, stamping him "Noldorin". I think a lot about the fact that he probably had a Sindarin/Doriathrim accent/subdialect prior to the Sack of Sirion, and probably developed either a Feanorian accent or at the very least a strong Noldorin accent by the time he would have met Celeborn. He's got a mixed heritage and possibly doesn't know very much about the Sindarin half early on in his life, and so I think Celeborn really took him under his wing at that point and had a vested interest in helping him learn about Doriath, and Elwing, and Melian & Luthien and Sindarin cultural in general.

I'm extremely fond of Elrond in all sorts of relationships and various constellations and polycules because he has so much love to give! But in terms of relationships I think I actively avoid/dislike, it's Gilrond in any dynamic which is romantic (because I headcannon Gil as ragingly aro), and tbh just...most Gilrond portrayals, because most often the power disparity is either romanticised or sexualised and I that's just...a personal squick for me. Ignored is less squicky but I still just don't really like reading their dynamic unless the author has taken some form of effort to reconcile the power disparity. Gil's the high king & Elrond is his herald. Gil could literally ruin his life and there are clear issues of consent in a dynamic like that. It's extremely easy for that to turn into something super unhealthy or dangerous so fucking fast and it always makes me a bit squeamish about the ship. There are ways around it and ways to resolve it in a healthy way, but that does take a lot of work and forethought. Most Gilrond fics tend to gloss over the potential issues of consent and just sexualize the power disparity and that's so gross to me sorryyyy.

5: first headcanon that pops into my head

He deals with really bad sleep paralysis because he's subject to a weird combo of elf-sleep (walking the paths of memory) and true-sleep (actual dream-states), on top of the curse gift of foresight which results in some wack ass visions.

6: favorite line from this character

Books it's a tie between: "Elrond laughed" and “Such is oft the course of deeds that move the wheels of the world: small hands do them because they must, while the eyes of the great are elsewhere.” and "“Elrond’s house was perfect, whether you liked food or sleep or story-telling or singing (or reading), or just sitting and thinking best, or a pleasant mixture of them all. Merely to be there was a cure for weariness. … Evil things did not come into the secret valley of Rivendell." (none of these are strictly lines and this last one is not strictly from the character but shhhhh)

In the films: "You should have stayed dead" (From PJ's hobbit. That scene is so self-indulgent for me asdlkghjkl)

In Rings of Power: "I swore an oath to Durin. To some, that may now hold little weight. But in my esteem, it is by such things our very souls are bound." (meanwhile me screaming at the screen NO OATHS!! NO OATHS!! YOU DUMB BITCH!!!! but this line still hits me so hard)

7: one way in which I relate to this character

@the-commonplace-book pointed out the other day that a lot of my headcannons surrounding Elrond's differences due to his peredhel heritage and how he (and others) responds to it and struggles to accept his own limits are a rather good metaphor for chronic illness and disability and I haven't been the same since & feel very Seen (derogatory).

Rings of Power aka Amazon LOTR

Had a week off and met up with the sibling who queue Rings of Power up on Amazon. 

Have to say I didn’t hate it but my god is it a mess in storytelling when it comes to the canon it is supposed to be following.

Timeline WTF?! 

The Elves seem to be somewhere between 700SA (Eragion built) and 1200SA (creating the rings) 

Numenoreans are more 3229 (to let Isildur be 20ish) to pre 3260 (Tar-Palantir is still alive) just before Numenor falls. 

No clue as to where the Harfoot timeline might be based on yet.

At one point I was hoping that it would all be a “Gotcha!” moment where the Elendil, who fishes Galadriel out of the sea, and has sons Anarion and Isildur was going to turn out to be a earlier member of the family and the names repeat later as a giant ‘joke’ especially as the sons are in the wrong order but not with all the other Numenorian characters also matching up with the ones at the Fall of Numenor. 

Missing Characters

Celeborn - Galadriel’s husband married since First Age. Confirmed missing in Ep7 as he apparently went to war (War of Wrath) at the ed of the FA and was ‘lost’. G has apparently spent x? years (see Timelines WTF?!) hunting down Sauron and orcs for killing her brother but not looking for her possibly alive husband.

Celebrian - Celeborn and Galadriel’s daughter should be born approx 300SA Elronds so could be aged anywhere between 200 and 2900 (also see Timelines WTF?!). Future wife to Elrond

If going for amping up the grief saying her husband and daughter were lost is extra angsty, without that it implies 'I lost my brother and husband and fecked off on a vengeance quest while abandoning my daughter' or she doesn't exist yet if they don’t have her born soon she’s going to end up a child bride to Elrond around the time Elladan and Elrohir are born.

1 So timeline is F*cked and I can’t make sense of it maybe Galadriel fell through a time warp out at sea somewhere jumped forward 2500yrs and the Elf and Numenor stores are not happening in the same time (will be Jossed on Friday) and in 3255ish there are 2 versions of her running around ME.

TBH as Numenorian’s re-establish contact in 600SA they could have had her encouraging that to get back home and left the Miriel/Elendil/Isildur to later seasons where it might make a bit of sense

Celebrimbor in the pics released for EP8 certainly looks like he might have a nasty surprise inserted somewhere he didn’t want it.

3 Celeborn and Celebrian are somewhere waiting for Galadriel to come home either she’d set out just before he came home and the letters keep getting lost in the post and since someone has to watch the kid, he became SAHD and Galadriel in her PTSD is ignoring or has forgotten she has a kids back home or we MPreg it and like seahorses the male elves are the ones that carry the kids and Galadriel doesn’t yet know she has a daughter.....

Wow, Fellowship of Fans posted today their final scoops article now that the season 2 "Rings of Power" promotion is finally starting and they'll be switching to posting what comes from the cast/crew and the entertainment media, but it's majorly changes things as they were given false information again. They apologized too as it turns out who they said Calam Lynch was playing is false. I feel bad for those fans as they also confirmed that character never was cast for season 2 but will appear in a later season. I'm going to post a recap of their spoilers, as they got more about Charlie Vickers' Halbrand/Sauron and even Haladriel spoilers, and who Calam really is but the article above as so much more to read.

Again confirmed what the other scoopers were saying that Celeborn has not been cast for the show yet. Calam is playing an elf but FOF is saying it's not Annatar and Annatar is another actor. Calam's role is small too and he actually shares more screentime with Selina Lo, Charles Edwards' Celebrimbor, and the other elves. The chemistry test with him and Morfydd never happened either but was also false spoiler spread by Amazon to catch the leaker among the crew.

I know a lot of the Celeborn fans are going to be upset about this as they have to wait even longer for him to show up and I feel for them.

The actor playing Annatar wasn't revealed to them but he has dark hair unlike the white/blonde hair most fans think. They shared a concept photo of what Annatar looks like too. This actor only filmed a few scenes with Adar and in Eregion, and both him and Charlie filmed flashbacks telling Sauron's backstory. Apparently doesn't affect Charlie's screentime as much as we thought which is a good thing imo.

Charlies Vickers does turn back into his form of Sauron during the Battle of Eregion and will be shown in his full black and gold armor (I was hoping for this LOL).

Charlie and Morfydd's Galadriel share important scenes together in the finale after he transforms back to the Halbrand form.

Y'all, everytime I see an image of ROP Galadriel, whether in google images or thumbnails/short clips in YouTube, she always looks so fucking angry and arrogantic, like I've never seen eyes with so much hatred in it. I thought I would only see it in orcs, goblins or any of Sauron or Morgoth's servants but nope its always her. I've seen better characterization of Galadriel in ao3 fics than in this mess of a show. And that fucking Halbrand bullshit, like I cant believe people prefer that stupid ass oc over Celeborn, FUCKING CELEBORN. Didn't Sauron hate humans? So why tf did he dress up as one?

Omg Right!? In every-freaking-shot! In every-freaking-scene! Even when she's talking to her "friend" (who asks her how she is and hears "why Elrond, you've truly become a politician. I am not some courtier to be placated by idle flattery." In response), or thanking someone, if she thanks them. 'Cause she's rude, angry & arrogant, and hateful towards people who help her, save her life, and are nice to her, too. And still, unlike well-written other angry and arrogant characters (like, say Fëanor, who always suffered as a direct result of his actions), it never has any consequence for her. everyone loves and admires her and she always gets her way.

I guess looking angry, hateful, and arrogant at all times = being a strong female character

'Cause the previous Lady Galadriel who was kind, generous, wise, hospitable, altruistic, calm, gentle, dignified, peaceful, and graceful (coincidentally feminine traits) & radiated so much power, magnanimity, majesty, ancient strength & wisdom that it felt like one was standing in the presence of a goddess was not strong enough for Amazon. No, she had to jump into the sea in the middle of an ocean, disrespect people, threaten genocide, etc.

& yes, I think the reason Galadriel's characterizations are better in ao3 fics is that the authors love the characters and the work. They don't want to drastically change them. They don't get paid, they don't have to write. they do it because they love to. Because they have ideas to write. because they've given thought to the characters and the events.

And yes, this whole Halbrand deal is so infuriating! Not only they've completely ignored Celeborn (Who Galadriel chose to stay in ME for.) to have a love story between Galadriel and an OC, aka Galadriel x Sauron, which until this mess of a series I don't think anyone has ever thought of, and erased Celebrian (& now they have to pull a Renesmee/Jacob with her and Elrond if they even decide to include her), but they also replaced Annatar! (Probably because twink Annatar deceiving a young Celebrimbor might have had some gay subtext and it would have been too much for the Mormon showrunners) not only they completely ignored Galadriel's insightfulness, mind-reading powers, wisdom, and intelligence by not showing that she was not deceived by Annatar for a moment and rejected him immediately & so Sauron, a literal maia was weary of her ("he perceived at once that Galadriel would be his chief adversary and obstacle."), And not only they completely ignored one of the few plot points they had to meet as there is not much said in the books about the second age, and they couldn't even meet those few plot points. But it doesn't even make sense storytelling-wise. If an adaptation changed something from the source, (even then, Annatar to HaLbRand was too much) but made it better, or at least made it ok in its own right, it wouldn't have been so horrible. But the storytelling of this show is the most abysmal I've ever seen! In a well-written show could you imagine the tension of the scenes when Celebrimbor finds out that Annatar is Sauron, but doesn't want him to find out that he has found out until the rings are safely tucked away, but Sauron has found out that Celebrimbor knows and the confrontation that leads into Celebrimbor finding out that Sauron knows that he knows? and at that moment, because Sauron is a maia, Celebrimbor doesn't stand a chance?

And the way the showrunners said that they've changed it 'cause they thought that it was stupid that the elves were ever fooled by Annatar? These fuckers really thought they could write better that the father of modern Fantasy.

And no, you're right. Sauron dressing up as a human doesn't make any sense. Just as Sauron's whole plan, if you could call it that, or the plot of the series NOT being Sauron's plan doesn't make any sense.
